Alex was working with the majority of the Science staff in Labs 5 and 6, preparing them for the mission at Vorona 2. They were installing the control consoles for the ten landers and giving a crash course in driving them to non-commissioned personel as there weren't enough Science staff to do everything that needed to be done. Alex had hijacked a dozen non-comms from various sections of the ship.
"No, Chief, driving off the edge of a cliff is generally ill-advised" Alex said patiently for the third time as the two of them watched the lander plunge to it's fiery death on the viewer.
"Sorry, sir" Chief Wallace said again. Alex restarted the simulation.
"Perhaps you should just stay away from cliffs altogether" Alex said to the embarassed Chief.
"Yes, sir" he replied as he ran the lander through some basic maneuvers.
Alex watched for a few minutes. The man was doing alot better on flatter ground. He would note that the lander the chief drove should be away from rougher terrain.
Alex got back to installing the console that he had been working on. Things were getting done at a good pace, and he was confident that everything would be ready when the Raven reached the probe's launch point, he thought optimistically.
"Weill to Dixon"
Alex looked up again. "Yes, sir?"
"We are three hours from the probe's launch window. How are things going down there?" the Captain asked.
"Fine sir. Everything will be ready on schedule" Dixon informed Weill.
"Excellent." There was a pause. "How are the sensors doing, Mr. Dixon?"
"The sensors, Captain? They're fine. I finished running a level two diagnostic on them when we left Starbase" Alex said.
"Hmm, well, perhaps you should run a level one diagnostic. We just had a Federation shuttle sneak up on us undetected. If it had been a hostile ship, this would have been the shortest mission in the history of ships named Raven" Weill noted with some irritation.
Alex wanted to protest. He didn't have the manpower to run a level one diagnostic, but protesting would be pointless. His logical response was "Yes sir" and closed the channel.
Alex looked out over the assembled throng of his department and tried to decide who would be best to go. After some thought, Alex decided that he was best suited. Everything was running fine here and he was the best sensor diagnostician on the ship.
"Lt. Collaan, I need to run a level one sensor diagnostic. You're in charge till I get get back." She nodded and Alex left the lab, after contacting Engineering and requesting two technicians to assist him with the diagnostic.
Alex tapped his comm badge again. "Dixon to Isildur."
"Go ahead Commander" the Andalite said, in thoughtspeak.
Alex shook his head. This thoughtspeak thing was going to take some getting used to.
"We are going to be at our launch point in three hours, and it will take about two hours for the probe to get to Vorona 2. Anytime you want to come down and begin your observations is fine" Alex informed the Counsellor.
"Thank you, Commander. Isildur out."
Weird. Alex thought. He would get used to it though. Alex boarded a turbolift and went to the bridge to coordinate the diagnostic.

It had taken an hour and a half, but the level one diagnostic of the sensors was complete, even with Commander Majeski's frequent interruptions. He was clearly furious that Commander Bird had managed to sneak up on the Raven.
Unfortunately, Alex had to report that there was nothing wrong with the sensors, and Alex had no idea how this Commander Bird and her shuttle had managed to get so close to the Raven without being detected. That answer hadn't made Majeski happy at all.
After about an hour, Commander Bird herself stepped onto the bridge and taken the mission specialist position near the captain's chair. She could see her looking over and smiling at him every once in a while, as if she were challenging him to figure out how she had done it. Alex had heard the scuttlebutt around ship that she was a Federation colonization representative, but found it unlikely. There wasn't much in Sector 387 to colonize. He did know that she was irritating him.
Alex was thinking that there might be something about the shuttle when the memory of a battle against the Tholians that he had read about while he was at the Academy surfaced in his head. One of the strategies used in the combat might explain things here.
Alex walked over to the tactical officer. "Lieutenant, I need you to launch a Class 4 probe and transfer control to my station." Majeski walked over and listened in on the conversation.
The lieutentant looked confused, but nodded. "Yes sir. Stand by." There was a slight shudder of the ship as the probe was launched. Alex walked back to his station and took control of the probe's guidance systems as Majeski joined him and slowly piloted it back to the same point relative to the Raven where the commanders shuttle had been detected. Alex watched the sensors carefully as he guided the probe back and forth. Suddenly, the probe disappeared and then reappeared in the sensor display. Majeski grimaced and growled. He knew exactly what had happened.
"Map it out and effect repairs, Commander." Majeski ordered, and stomped across the bridge to inform the Captain while glaring at Commander Bird.
Alex nodded as he managed to make the probe vanish and come back at will. He then carefully noted the location of where the probe vanished and compared it to the location of the Raven's sensor pallets. It was along the border between sensor pallets 4 and 5. Alex called the two Engineering techs and sent them to the problem area with some alignment parameters. Alex shook his head, left his station and activated the door chime to the Captain's Ready Room, pointedly ignoring Commander Bird.
"Well?" the Captain said as soon as Alex entered the room. Majeski was sitting on the couch. He looked a bit calmer now.
"We have a sensor blind spot between pallets 4 and 5 that would allow something the size of a shuttle to get to within transporter range of us. It would only be big enough to hide a capital ship at longer range" Alex informed the captain.
"What was the cause?" the captain growled. Alex winced inwardly. He had never seen his captain this irritated before.
"It's a yard error, sir. The sensor pallets weren't aligned correctly when they were installed, which resulted in the blind spot" Alex reported. "I have two technicians correcting the alignment right now. It should be done in a few minutes."
Commander Majeski looked up. "Do we have any more holes in our sensor coverage?"
"I don't know yet Commander. I'll use the probe I launched to track down any more" Alex said, and the Commander nodded.
"That still leaves us with some problems" Captain Weill began.
"Yes" said Majeski. "Such as, how could she have known?"
"There are only two ways to utilize a sensory blind spot" Weill noted, "you calculate it or you know it beforehand."
"But sir," Alex protested "calculating a sensory blind spot is very difficult. You need detailed scans and high powered computers to figure them out. A standard Federation shuttle isn't equipped to do something like that!"
"Well then," Weill theorized "either the Commander has the resources of a large ship available to her, the shuttle is more than it seems or Commander Bird knows our ship better than we do."
A morose silence fell over the ready room in response to the Captain's assessment.

Weill: " Well we need to find out as much as possible, Mr Dixon, i want you to make sure the sensors work, work with Zimsky on that and find out if there are any larger ships, or anomolies in the area, Tactical, you work on looking at the Commanders shuttle, i want you Commander Majeski to head that and i want regular reports, I want the counsellor to interview the Commander and find out the facts, ok, jump to work"
The ready room cleared as all the senior staff went off to their various assignments, Weill was miffed, how did she do this but more he thought it was a fine test for the ship, a little to convinient with that.
The ship went through space th shuttle had been tractered into the shuttlebay and the security teams were checking it out,
The ship was buzzing to repair the damage that the Commanders appearance had done to their pride. The fact that an officer who had never been on the ship, had made fools of them all.............. than he thought...... had never served on the ship before, or even been on her before, he opened the ships history to find out the list of people who had been onbaord the crew manifest, he made a copy and sent it to Counsellor Isildur to use when interviewing the Commander.

Isildur started morphing as soon as he heard word from Commander Dixon. This is a good chance to observe the reactions of a crew under pressure Isildur thought to himself as he headed for the bridge. The andalite was pleased to see Alex had set everything up. "Ah Counsellor there you are. Are you ready for your observeations?" Dixon asked as Isildur neared the science station. Isildur nodded as Dixon took a second to notice the counsellor was in his human morph. Dixon nodded and started making the arrangments with his crew. Isildur looked down at a PADD handed to him by a junior officer. It had a list on it. No doubt from Captain Weill about the preformance of each officer on the science mission.

Alex marched out of the conference room and to the Science station to complete his tests of the sensors. He ran the probe around the Raven, looking for other sensor holes or glitches that an enemy could use against them. There was nothing. Commander Bird was pretty lucky to be able to find the one hole in their sensor coverage.
"Collaan to Dixon" Alex tapped his comm badge.
"Go ahead."
"Sir, we've arrived at our launch window."
"OK, Lieutenant. I'm on my way down. Out." Alex left his station and walked to the turbolift, while hitting his badge again. "Dixon to Zimsky, I have to go to the lab. I've completed a level one diagnostic of the sensors and haven't found any more sensor holes."
"All right commander. I will see if I can think of anything else" the CEO said.
Alex stepped off the turbolift and entered the lab. Everyone looked up expectantly. "Is everything ready?" he asked.
Collaan nodded. "Yes sir"
"Launch the probe!"

"The probe has acheived standard orbit" Lt. Quarel reported.
Commander Dixon looked around the the Planetary Science lab. "Do all systems show ready?" he asked the assembled exploration team. A series of excited nods indicated a go. Alex quickly glanced at Isildur, and his head bobbed as well, so Alex intoned loudly "Energize!"
Buttons were pressed on various consoles and the exploration of Vorona 2 began. Data from the planet was picked up by the rovers, transmitted to the probe and then to the Raven in a constant information stream. There were a number of quiet cheers as data began to pour in from the rovers, and the smile on Alex's face became huge as the results came in. Things were going perfectly. The probes began taking samples of the local flora.
***About an hour later***
The mood in the Planetary Science Lab was upbeat as a low whistle came from behind the Atmospheric Analysis console. Alex looked up from the readout he had been examining. "What do you have, Batinor?"
"You should see the atmospheric gases that I'm picking up floating around this planet. I'm not sure that the replicator could synthesize them, much less what would happen if a someone should breathe them in!" the ensign reported.
Alex walked over to take a look and the Ensign underlined the atmospheric chemicals with his finger on the console. "These are the ones I was talking about. They're incredibly complex. This planet is barely class M, but I have no idea how these compounds would be produced."
Alex raised his eyebrows. They were extremely intricate chemical chains. Nothing like anything he had seen before. A few of the other team members crowded around to take a look, and all uttered similar sounds of surprise.
"What was that?" came a startled exclamation from the next console over. Dixon was immediately there.
"What's the matter?" Alex asked.
"Nothing, I guess" the petty officer manning the console said tentatively. "Lander seven nearly tipped over. I guess that it hit a rock. But it's running on computer control right now. It would have steered around anything big enough to tip it over" she explained.
"Maybe it's experiencing a glitch. Try piloting it on manual for a while" Alex ordered. The woman nodded and turned her full attention to steering the lander over the rough surface of Vorona 2, while Alex turned to go to the Atmospheric Analysis console.
Before he could get two steps away, the Petty Officer exclaimed "Lander 7 has tipped over!" and Alex turned back.
"Did you hit something?" he asked.
"No Sir!" she replied emphatically. "I was actually driving over some relatively flat area, and it just flipped over!"
Alex's brow furrowed. That was unusal. The landers were well balanced and fairly heavy. They wouldn't tip easily. He turned to Lt. Quarel. "Quarel, beam Lander 7 to the probe and then return it to the surface, right side up and about 10 meters from where it was."
"Aye sir" Quarel said and entered the commands into his console. Alex stood by and waited for the Lander to get back to the surface, and it materialized a few seconds later.
"Drive it around for a bit." Alex said, and the Petty Officer took the controls for about a minute. Suddenly, the lander flipped again and Alex cursed. This time, the imagery feed from Lander 7 went dead as well. "Quarel, beam Lander 7 up again!"Dixon said in a frustrated voice.
"Aye sir." There was a pause. "Um, sir. I am not reading enough mass to indicate the entire Lander beamed up. Just a few pieces!" Quarel reported.
"What!?" Alex exclaimed.
"Just lost contact with Lander 2!"
"Lander 5 out of communication!"
"Lander 8 non-repsonsive sir!"
Alex didn't know what was going on. Loudly, he said "Transport all landers back to the probe immediately!"
There was silence in the lab, except for Counsellor Isildur entering notes onto his PADD.

The mood in the Planetary Science lab had gone from jubilant to morose in a matter of minutes as the exploration of Vorona 2 had fallen apart. Alex had lost 4 landers in the space of 1 minute, and had lost a fifth when he had asked Quarel to try beaming down a lander to an area previously unexplored. Contact had been lost in a matter of seconds.
Alex looked around the room. It seemed that no one had anything to say and wanted to capitulate. As the Chief Science officer, Alex couldn't allow that.
"Alright" Alex said loudly. A number of people jumped. "I want a complete analysis run of every reading that the landers took while they were down. Quarel, you and Collaan do a frame by frame analysis of all images sent back and see if there is anything unusual. I want results and conclusions in 10 minutes." The science staff stared at Alex then bent to work with a quiet determination.
15 minutes later, Alex was on his way to the bridge. The turbolift stopped and Alex stepped off and headed down to the Captain. Weill. Commander Majeski was sitting in the first officers chair. The Captain reacted with a bit of surprise when he saw Alex. "Commander Dixon? I thought that you would be very busy studying the exploration data. Is there a problem?"
"Yes sir" Alex replied. "We have lost 5 of the 10 landers that had been beamed down. They were destroyed by something on the planet."
Weill looked even more surprised. "You told me that Vorona 2 was uninhabited. What destroyed the landers?"
"That the planet was uninhabited was the conclusion of the probe that passed through 70 years ago. We also put some basic instruments on the probe and have been scanning the planet with long-range sensors" Alex reported. "All the data that we have collected so far seems to indicate that the planet is uninhabited, but something destroyed our landers. And that would seem to indicate a planet wide community of some kind."
"I take it that you would like to go and investigate the planet" Weill said.
"Yes, sir!" Alex replied forcefully.
"Commander, what do you think the risk to the Raven might be?" Majeski inquired.
"I believe it to be minimal sir. The probe has been sitting in orbit for several hours now and hasn't been scratched" Alex said.
Majesky and Dixon looked at Captain Weill. Decision time again.

Weill felt a slight feeling of discontent, this had turned into a fully fleged mission, his CScO had done very well, but he believed had not taken the proper precautions.
Weill: " Well Mr Dixon, i think thats the only option, i want you to take a team down, but i must ask that it be lead by Commander Majeski, as it is a hazard situation and please take Ensign Zimsky with you as his expertise would be useful"
Dixon: " Yes sir, thankyou sir, i will take my senior science team"
Weill: " I want you Commander Majeski to be head of this mission, you will be active and make sure that the science team is safe as this is a chance to get valuable first hand data as well as finding out what went wrong"
Majeski: " Yes sir, i shall, i will send reports to you in the proper fashion, Commander Maejski to Zimsky, report to the away team in the transporter room"
Weill: " Good luck, Mr Dixon, and you Commander, and please take phaer rifles if there is troiuble, i want tp get you back and also transport enhancers might be a good idea"

Alex left the bridge as the Captain ordered the Raven to Vorona 2 at Warp 6. They would arrive there in less than a half hour, so there wasn't much time.
"Who else do you need to come down to the planet Mr. Dixon?" Majeski asked in a slightly irritated fashion.
"Sir, I need Lts. Ruten and Collaan to come along. Also, I think that it would be safest if we all go down in full environmental suits" Alex recommended.
Majeski's eyes bulged. "I was told the planet is Class M and I don't like environmental suits. Why do we have to wear them?!"
"Because there are some really strange trace gases in the atmosphere of Vorona 2 and they are still being analyzed. It's possible that they wouldn't do anything to us if we breathe them in, or they might turn our lungs into pools of red slush inside of our chest cavities" Alex said matter of factly as the doors of the turbolift opened and he stepped off.
Majeski stepped off after him without comment and the two commanders walked into Transporter Room 1. Ensign Zimsky was already there with a bundle of pattern enhancers. There were also a member of Security present who Alex didn't recognize offhand.
Majeski tapped his comm badge and ordered Ruten and Collaan to the transporter room, and then requested that 6 environmental suits be delivered as well.
The four who were there started preparing to beam down to the surface.

Majeski beamed down with his team armed with phaser Rifles and thier handhelds to thier belts Dixion opened a tricorder, and frowned
"i'm not reading any lifesigns" Dixion said
Majeski quirked an eyebrow but then hte elf caught somthing out of the corner of his eye and wirled around ot face it,
"Did you catched that ?", Ramerez asked
"some what" Majeski said
Dixion and Zimsky looked at eachother and exchanged nervous glances
"Catch what?" dixion said
Then another shadow passed over them this time Majeski rose his rifle and armed it as well as the other three security officers. Wrinkling his nose majeski stepped forward.....
"Whats that smell? "
Sorry it's all I got time 4 at the moment i'll try and add more tonight *is skipping math to post*

Isildur walked onto the bridge with a PADD in hand. Captain Weill was sitting in his command chair. The young andalite walked up to his CO and handed him the PADD. <Here is the report on the science department's reactions sir,> Isildur said in thought speak. Weill nodded and returned into his thoughts. Isildur nodded at the Captain as he read the Captain's mind and headed for sickbay where he had unfinished buisness.

Alex shifted uncomfortably in his environmental suit as he tried to figure out what was going on. Commander Majeski, Ramerez and the other security officers had surrounded Alex, Collaan and Zimsky with their phaser rifles pointing outwards. Alex had drawn his hand phaser and was examining his tricorder, trying to get an analysis of what people were claiming to have seen. Collaan was also using her tricorder while Zimsky was setting up the pattern enhancers.
Alex continued to scan the area. All his tricorder was picking up were plants, and there was an incredibly exotic mixture of them just within range of his eyes. Plants of every size, shape and colour. The twin suns of this system shone down on them all and the wind made the leaves move quietly, making everything that much more difficult to see.
Suddenly, one of the taller plants off to their left moved, and the security team pointed their weapons in that direction. A series of small slits, like gills, opened wide on the side of the plant facing them and released a large cloud of brownish gas. The wind gently tore the cloud into smaller tendrils and dispersed it to the atmosphere away from the small group of humans, and everyone breathed a quiet sigh of relief.
Alex and Collaan's tricorders began to beep and they both glanced down. Alex saw that the concentration of the highly complex gases had gone very high locally, but was gradually dissipating. Well, that settled one problem. The plants were producing the gases, for some reason.
The security team relaxed a little. There didn't seem to be anything that was an immediate threat anywhere near them. "I thought that we were supposed to transport into a clear area!" Majeski complained.
"This is a clear area, relatively speaking" Alex reported. The wind continued to blow, but there didn't seem to be anything else going on around them.
"Commander, Lander 7 was destroyed about 50 meters from here bearing 269.3. We should go take a look at the area and see if there is any evidence as to what did it" Alex recommended.
Majeski looked over and nodded and started issuing orders to the Security team. Alex, Collaan and Zimsky formed up inside the perimeter and the group started to cautiously move towards the final resting place of Lander 7.

The Raven A was in orbit and the away team, Weill had been monitoring the sitaution and he had also herd reports from other departments about the progress of the checks, all the ships sytems were working well, the new enhanced warp core was workin well, it produced more power than expected. it powered all systems and the shields had more power tha expected, the ablasive armour, which had almost become standared on federation exploers was strong and resilient.
Weill: " Chief Yeoman, send message to Command, test's almost complete, we shall be back ASAP"
Yeoman: " Sent"
Weill: " Also send my reagrds to the Commander of the First Fleet, havnt seen him for a while, good to serve under the Admiral again"
Yeoman: " Regards sent sir"
Weill: " I would like you to come into my ready room, "
Yeoman: " Yes sir"
They walked in and the Yeoma balted up to attenmtion, she was young and had a distinguished record, but unfortunatley, he was to find a new Captains assistant/ yeoman
Weill: " Now, Chief Yeoman Waller, you have a fine record, and are due for the next rung soon"
Waller: " Yes sir, quite soon i would hope"
Weill: " Well i am sorry to tell you i am not here to offer you such a promotion....................... but i am able to offer you the commision rank of Ensign"
The young rating looked shocked as anyone Weill had ever seen,
Weill: " Do you accept?"
Waller: " May i speak freely sir?"
Weill: " Of course"
Waller: " Well i have been a rating for 5 years and have worked hgard, i didnt have the grades to get into the academy, but i had always wished for a command, but may i ask why i can be commisioned now?"
Weill: " Because you have a fine reord and i recommended you, and becuase we need a new set of officers and you are the best. You would have to undergo exams under the review of Commander Majeski, but while this is going on you will be my assistant and than once it is over you will recive your promotion in full from acting to full Ensign and than will move on"
Waller: "Thankyou sir, it is an honour"
Weill pinned an acting enisgn insignia on
Weill: " Now go and get your new quarters and be ready in a 3 hours and report to the bridge"
Waller: " yes sir"

Commander Majeski carefully led the away team through the forests of Vorona 2 on the way to the site of remains of Lander 7. The team was on edge. It seemed everything on this planet moved a little and everyone knew the great speed with which the landers had been destroyed.
"Commander Dixon!" Majeski yelled "Get up here right now!"
Alex cautiously made his way up to the front of the party and approached the commander. Majeski gestured at his feet and said loudly "I thought you said there was nothing but plants around here. What's that?"
Alex looked down and saw a small creature with 6 legs crawling slowly over the ground. It was a brownish color and had odd jointed antennas sticking out at random areas on it's body. The body was divided into 3 different sections joined by thin tubes and each section was a slightly different shade of brown. The creature ignored him completely as Alex pulled out his tricorder and quickly scanned it.
"It's a plant, Commander" Dixon reported as he closed his tricorder.
"A plant?? It looks like a big insect!" Majeski insisted.
Alex shrugged. "I agree that it looks like an insect, but it's a plant. It has the same basic structure as all the plants around us that are growing out of the ground. It's life processes are similar. It looks like a bug, but it's a plant."
Alex heard the sound of the captain's voice in his ears. "Weill to away team. Come in."
Majeski answered. "Go ahead, Captain."
"We have completed a series of preliminary scans of your area. There are no life signs, no power signatures, no cities, roads or other signs of intelligent life" Weill said.
"We haven't found anything here either sir. Just a lot of plants" Majeski reported. "We're nearing the site of Lander 7. We'll call if we find anything. Landing party out."
Alex looked down at the small plant as it moved off. A tiny wisp of fog issued from the top of it's middle section. Alex raised an eyebrow and moved off with the small group as it started moving carefully through the foliage again.

Weill had heard the report and was pleased with the team, they had done well, despite this he had seen his new Acting Ensign come onto the bridge and she had the stripped rim around her collar showing her position, she looked very pleased and walked in front of Weill who had purposeley picked up a padd and she bolted to attention.
Waller: "Acting Ensign Waller reporting for duty sir"
Weill: " congratulations, please collect details on the ship status from the avaliable department heads please, get the to me ASAP"
Waller: " Yes sir"
Weill was feeling a sense of satisfaction, to see the glow of pleasure on a new officers face was soemthing he almost missed, he remembered how pleased he was when he walked into Starfleet academy and than how he even felt better after graduation, not even quiet rapture.
A while later, Weill had heard rumours from whispers that Waller was getting a hard time and he thought he better sort it out, so he walked down to the crews quarters and he walked in and saw Waller looking distressed.
Weill: " What in the........... whats happeneing here..... stand to attention"
The crewmembers stood to attemtion and look petrified
Weill: " Ensign Waller what has happened"
Waller: "Nothing sir"
Weill: " Dont treat me like a fool, otherwise you will be a crewman again... now i repeat what happened?"
A crewman churped up in the silence
Crewman: " Sorry sir, it was our fault"
Weill: " name and explain exactly what your fault?"
Henderson: " Oh i am crewman first class Henderson sir, and well we ah......... we were making fun of Waller sir, she thought she was an ensign"
Weill: " She is an Ensign and you will be treated accordingly and you will treat her likewise, i should throw you all in the brig, for this, but i will leave the punsihment up to Ensign Waller................ get out of my sight."
They walked out looking worried.

Isildur and Lise recieved their call to the bridge at the same moment. "Ensign Cooraf and Doctor Lise report to the bridge now," a young female officer said over the comm system. The tapped their commbadges similtanously. "Acknowledged," they said in unison. Isildur looked at Lise and laughed. They left sickbay at the same time chatting along the way. Within a few minutes they were on the bridge. "Sir we were told to report in," Lise said as she walked up to Captain Weill. Isildur noticed the captain standing by an acting ensign. Isildur recognized her as a former yeoman. "What is status Counsellor?" Weill asked as he turned to face him and the CMO. "We have hust about finished the psyc evaluations," Lise answered as she stepped forward. Weill nodded at the report. "Counsellor Cooraf and Doctor Lise I expect two full reports on my desk in two and a half hours. Dissmissed," he said in his serious voice. The two nodded and left the bridge.

Weill had recivied the reports and he had been pleased with the Counsellors initiative. He was waiting for the away team and things were running well, the Yeoman was standing as if she had a iron rod running along her spine.
Weill: " Relax, Waller, please relax a bit, you making me worried, you remind me of some of the borg i have been unluckey enough to meet"
Waller: " Yes sir, is there anything i can do"
Weill: " First send a communication to the Command update them on our time of arrival, that being we may be late, than could you check the crewman who were misbehvaing and than bring them to the conference lounge, call me when they are there, than leave"
Waller: " Yes sir, may i ask why sir"
Weill: " No you may not............ it will be a suprise"
Weill was cooking up soemthing that would make sure thoses crewman knew how to treat officers, he thought they were out of place to a Chief Yeoman but the way they treated an acting Ensign, tut tut.
After a while Waller's voice came through the intercom, she had told Weill that the crewman were in the conference lounge, he sat back and some of the crew looked around, Waller walked onto the bridge from the conference room door.
Waller: " They are here sir"
Weill: " I know"
Waller: " Ok sir"
He was planning to make tem wait long enough to consider what was going to happen to them.
He than got up, walked quite slowley and regimentally towards the conference room, he picked up a padd, from the OPPs station, he walekd to the door, it opened, they were lounging about one was even sitting o the conference room table, Weill didnt say anything though he was very tempted, they leped up bolt upright, Weill read the padd, he was wondering while reading it what the OPPs officer thought he was doing as it was just a requisition status report.
He than spun on his heel, walked over to the dedication plaque, took out a hankerchief from his pocket and wiped some dust off of it, he than smiled, in a very proud fashion, he than span again and looked at the padd again, this time walking very slowley into the conference room, he walked round the back of the officers aroud to where he usually sat, and than round the tabel past the wall display and than in front of the centre crewman, they looked rattled and started to shift about
Weill: " STAND STILL, and stand to attention, what do you think this is, its not the local wine bar"
They smerked
Weill: " Oh you find this ammusing do you, well i dont, i feel like having you put in the brig"
Their smerks disapeared, this time for the loss of feeling.
Weill: " Now i have a job for you........................."
Weill paused, their faces looked worried, they must have wondered, did the Captainw ant them to, clean the cargo bays, steralize the ship by hand, clean the outerhull, as they knew they hated Zero G training, were they going to have to spend time in the brig, the possibiulties crew worse with every thought
Weill: " We are on our ay back to starbase rendevouing with the Starship Bozeman, we are to take on passngers to go back to starbase, i want you to serve them"
Their faces looked happier, srve them couldnt be that bad
Weill: " Well dont you want to know who they are"
They must have thought foreign dignitaries or ambassadors, who even an Admiral
Weill walked over the the wall display and put in the details of the passengers
Crewman in unison: " Kidz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Weill: " yes the passengers are thoses being trasnported back to Assialiant as they need a school and the Bozeman has transported thtme from, another starship, you will give them ceortesy and treat them with every respect............ lets call it service"
Crewman: "Yes sir"
His face looking very glum"
Weill: " Dismissed"
They walked out looking very very worried and even more they guessed what was in store, Weill smiled and than walked out

Weill than walked back out onto the bridge and the crewman had just got into a turbolift, Waller was looking ambigious as she looked at the disapearing crewmen as the doors closed, Weill walked around put the padd back on the duty Operatons officers consle and thanked him the Opps officer was working on some routin scans of thr ship to make sure evrythign was working well.
Weill ast down in his centre chair and looked at the details that had been collected thus far in the planet, Waller came ovr and offered him a drink of tea, Weill excepted enthusiatically
Weill: " Thankyou, you must be telepathic reading my mind like that, or you were trying for yet another promotion"
Waller: " Oh no sir, just knew you liked tea"
Weill: " Calm down Ensign, a joke"
Just as Weill's lips got close to the cup he heard Coorafs voice over the intercome
Cooraf: " Sir, could you join me in my office please"
Weill: " On my way"
Weill looked regretfully at the tea, he sipped it and than gave it to Waller, i will drink it, just got to get this done
He walked thought the corridors and he came to the Counsellors office, he hadnt yet been it it, he walked in as the doors seemed to open before he got there
Cooraf: " Thankyou for coming sir"
Weill: " Thats ok, nice office, so what can i do for you"
Cooraf: " thankyou, it is a nice office........ but the reason i ahve asked you to come is more about some crewman who came to see me....... their names Dennet, Johnson and Valez, "
Weill: " I see, they were quick, they just left me"
Cooraf: " Yes, they think you are singling them out and well in their words, bullying them"
Weill: " Ok, i just informed them of a punsihment that they will get "
Cooraf: " They think it is to harsh"
Weill: "Well you can inform them, if they dont except this or if they want it by the book, they will be put in the brig and tha held before a court and than most probably removed from the service dishonourable, thats all i have got to say and if you could inform them......... thankyou for informing me"
Cooraf: "Thankyou for your time"
Weill: " No no Counsellor, thankyou for yours and i hope the crewman understand"
Weill walked out, he had helped thme and if they want it done by the book than he shall, he was curious as to what they would want to happen.

Weill had got into a turbolift and than walkes along a corridor and than nto another turbolift and walked out into the readyroom, he sat by the window, reading the articles, that told him what he could anc ouldnt do when dicilplining an officer or crewman, it appears that he was in the right and he could not be blmaed for anything, he was concerned about that, but he wanted to know what they the crewman had been looking at.
Waller walked in and gave weill a new cup of tea, he was suprised she made fresh tea not replicated, far better than the usual fluids he got, all replicated in a very false way, just like alchol had been changed, luckily he had some good quality wine in his quarters, enough to last a while, but than again some were better than others, as in all things.
Weill: " Thankyou for the fresh tea, its so muc better than replicated and i thankyou for taking the time to make it"
Waller: "Thats ok sir, fresh tea is indeed better"
Weill: " You look puzzled, why?"
Waller: " I was wondering what you did to the crewman, they seemed worried"
Weill: " I punished them, and to be honest, serve them right, they treated you wrongley and they need to learn dicipline, especially on my ship"

The away team led by Majeski and Dixon slowly made it's way towards the final resting place of Lander 7. The team was slowly gaining confidence. Despite the alien plant life, everything had settled into a bit of a routine. It seemed that nothing on the planet was attacking them. The only thing that there was to worry about was the occsional gas expulsion by the plants. The EVA suits were getting a bit uncomfortable though.
Finally, the small group entered a medium sized clearing, and the remains of the lander were clearly visible in the northeast corner. Alex, Collaan and Ruten moved closer to it, while Majeski ordered Security to set up a small perimeter.
Alex stood over the wrecked lander. Something had surely done a good job on it. There wasn't a piece longer than a few inches left. Collaan scanned it with her tricorder.
"Not much here to salvage sir, but we shouldn't leave it here, just in case." Dixon nodded and she and Ruten began to gather up what was left.
Ruten looked at the remains. "Uh, sir. Wasn't this lander supposed to be gathering samples?"
"Yes, why do you ask?" Alex replied.
"There aren't any here with the lander" he replied.
A puzzled silence settled over the three of them...

Alex looked down at his two team mates as they reported the lack of samples in the wreckage of Lander 7. He was becoming increasingly puzzled over the lack of evidence regarding what had happened to it and the rest of the landers. Every scan they completed confirmed the view that Vorona 2 was uninhabited, yet many things that they had found led him intuitively to believe that something unusual was going on on the planet.
"Collaan, Landers 2, 5, 7, and 8 were all assigned to take plant samples, and they were all destroyed?" Alex asked.
Yes, sir!" the Bajoran said in a startled voice.
While Alex was thinking about exactly whatever it was on this planet was trying to hide, Majeski walked over while keeping his eyes on his surroundings. "Well Commander, there still doesn't seem to be anything down here. There are no tracks, no evidence of weapons, just these plants everywhere." Majeski paused for a second, looking around uncertainly. "However, I can't get over the feeling that we are being watched" he said quietly.
Alex agreed with a silent nod. The EVA suits were keeping them alive, but it separated them from their surroundings. Alex knew that the planet had a constant wind, caused by differential heating of the planets by the double stars, but he couldn't hear it or feel it. It appeared that the plants moved by themselves, making everything he was seeing an disquieting experience.
A muffled curse resounded through the comm pickup in Alex's ears. He looked over to see Ramerez lifting his right foot. He and Majeski went over to see small, squished former inhabitant of Vorona 2 exhaling its' last puff of vapour to the atmosphere where the security officers foot had been. The man was apologetic. "I'm sorry sir" he began. "I was patrolling my area and I never even saw it!"
It's alright ensign. Just keep your eyes open in the future" Majeski said.
Alex was a little worried however. He was looking down at the dead plant, and saw several others at the edge of the clearing in which they stood. They suddenly all emitted small clouds of gas simultaneously. The vapour scattered to the wind and settled onto larger plants, and small vents opened on them and more gas was emitted. Alex was becoming alarmed and pulled out his tricorder to record what was going on while saying "Majeski, we're in trouble. Watch the perimeter!"
The commander didn't waste time asking why, but shouted to all to be ready for anything. Alex pulled his phaser and joined Ruten and Collaan to form a defensive triangle. The plants were continuing to emit the mysterious gases, until suddenly a thick vine flashed out from the jungle and hit Ramerez solidly in the chest, knocking him flying across the clearing and into the forest on the far side, out of sight behind the foliage. Immediately, everyone could hear his screams. Majeski charged into the bush after him, and a series of vines snaked after Majeski.
Alex started targeting the vines with his phaser and pulled the trigger. The blasts snapped the vines and the damaged remainders pulled back into the bush, only to be replaced by others. Alex pointed his phaser at one and pulled the trigger again. This time it dodged. Alex was about to fire again when he realized the importance of what he had just seen. Instead of firing again, Alex screamed "Raven, we are under attack. Beam up the away team now. Now, now NOW!"
After a second, the familiar scintillating field of the transporter beam surrounded Alex. Alex continued to look at Vorona 2 as it dissolved into Transporter Room 1. His last view of the planet was immense brown roots exploding up through the surface and flailing their way through where the away team had been a second before, confirming what Alex had been considering. That the plants of the Vorona 2 were sentient.

Weill was sitting in his centre chair, listening to the pen comm channel with the planet, he had started to get worried as the situation seemed to deteriorate and the voices of the crew got louder, he heard the crewman being hurt
Weill: " TRANSPORTER room, get crewman out of there"
Transporter Chief: " Yes sir........ but there is interference, narrowing the beam......... got him, he is in sickbay"
By that time, Majeski and the team were aboard and o their way to the sickbay to be checked out, Weill moved very quickly out of his seat to get to sickbay.
He walked in and Majeski and Dixon were sitting on beds, he saw Doctor Lise walk out of the surgery station and looking quite glum
Weill: " Doctor report?"
Lise: " He has been injected with a sirum that is manifesting itself, i will try to remove it, but it will be very very delecate"
Weill: " Thankyou Doctor"
He than walked over to Majeski and Dixon who were by this time sitting on the same bed talking
Weill: " Well glad you got back............ what happened"
Majeski: " We cam into some trouble, with some local inhabitants"
Majeski, your turn .............................................

Alex mind was buzzing as he sat beside Commander Majeski, who was giving his report to the Captain regarding the away mission to Vorona 2. He was certain that the plants on the surface were sentient, as hard as that was to believe. Not only that, but he could actually justify the plants attacking them on the surface. The away team were invaders that had actually harmed the surface inhabitants. Even the landers were invaders that had attacked, by taking samples of the flora. How would he feel if some aliens showed up on Earth and took a sample of his arm!
"I'm sorry, sir. Could you repeat the question?" Alex said. While he had been thinking, Captain Weill had asked him a question.
The Captain's face hardened as he saw that his Chief Science Officer hadn't been paying attention. "I said, do you have anything to add to Commander Majeski's report?"
"Yes, sir. I suggest that all remaining pieces of the Landers be transported back to the Raven and that Starfleet be informed that we have become involved in a First Contact Situation!" Alex said excitedly.
Captain Weill's eyebrows nearly launched right off of his head as he raised them in response to Alex's statement and Majeski looked over in surprise. "Who said we were in a First Contact situation?" Weill demanded.
Alex was overcome by his enthusiasm and therefore unphased by his Captain. "Sir, I can demonstrate that the vegetation on the planet is sentient. We have inadvertently started a First Contact, and we should finish it. In fact, we have attacked Vorona 2!"
The Captain stood quietly while he absorbed the incredible story his Science officer was trying to tell him. Sentient vegetation. Unfortunately, Dixon wasn't making much sense at the moment. Weill decided that his Science officer was a little unsettled by what he had seen on the surface and needed some time to try to put together some kind of coherent presentation.
Weill took a deep breath and said "Mr. Dixon, I cannot accept your conclusions right now. You and your staff have one hour to prepare a presentation supporting your theory about Vorona 2 which will be given in the conference room to the senior officers. After you have given your presentation, I will then decide the course of action the Raven will take. Dismissed..."
Alex was surprised by his captain's reaction, but he obediently gathered up Lts. Ruten and Collaan and ushered them out of sickbay enroute to the science labs where the exploration of Vorona 2 had been conducted. He only had an hour to figure out how to prove what he suspected.

Weill was slightly irritated, he was not used to be ignored, and he was tired of waiting but he than thought that they had been on and odd and tiring mission and espcially for a science officer it would be very intruiging.
He walked back round to his quarters and sat back and had soemthing to eat, he had a drink of Mount Ada Chadonnay and than some smoked Makeral, he hadnt had a good meal in quite a while so this was good for him, after eating he went back out to the corridor and the bridge and he waited for the report that the Scienence Department was going to prepare. He hoped it was concise and he almost hoped that thoses plants were sentiant it would be a remarkble. Beyong words
As while thought of this possibility, he was hoping and hoping that the information would be on his side. Also it would be the first feather in the cap of the USS Raven A.
While Weill was thinking, he heard and alarm and turned his head

Isildur with Ensign Waller were headed for a turbolift when the ship's RED ALERT claxon started sounding. "I guess we will have to take a raincheck on lunch," Isildur said as he started to demorph. The young wonam's laughter was shortlived when she saw Isildur's andalite form. Than she was afraid of the recently promted JG Lieutenant. <You need not fear me. I do look like a monster but looks can be decieving,> he said in thought speak as he galloped down the corridor to a bridge turbo lift. When he arrive Captain Weill was looking at the viewscreen. <What is it captain,> the andalite asked in thought-speak. That is unti he recognized the kind of ship it was. The ship was shaped like a battle axe. "Captain they are hailing us," Lieutenant Drysdale the acting cheif tactical officer said. "On screen," Weill said as he turned to the screen after giving the order. The screen turned to the face of a human male. "I am the Visser Three. This planet is our home and the sentenint plants are our creation. Leave now and live. Leave not and be destroyed. You have five earth minutes to comply," he said in a monotone befor the screen cut out. Weill turned to Isildur. "What and who the hell is that Mr. Cooraf?" Weill asked in a slightly angry tone. <That is the great-great-grandson on the man who killed my great-great uncle. He is a Yeerk. A yeerk is an agressive form of the trill,> Isildur said calmy in thought speak. <He to is an Andalite Controler for the Yeerks. We must get back up sir. He is very dangerous,> Isildur thought directley to the CO. Weill nodded as he ordered the veiwscreen back on.
