Alex was holding his head in his hands as Lts. Quarel and Collaan attempted to get Dr. Lockett to see what they had proved at Volara 2. So far, none of them had had much luck. She had a list of 15 points that she felt refuted the claims of sentient plants on Vorona 2. Alex felt that the three of them had answered them all, but still the argument went on, and on.
Finally, Alex called a halt to the proceedings, as he could see that Collaan and Quarel were getting quite frustrated. Dr. Lockett seemed pleased with herself, as though her refusal to believe their evidence was proof that there could be no sentient plants on Vorona 2.
"Excuse me Doctor, but I think that it's time to take a break. Would you like something to drink or eat?" Alex said, as Quarel and Collaan stood up and walked into the main lab.
"Thank you Commander Dixon. I could use a coffee." Alex stood up and walked to the nearest replicator and called one up. Walking back, Alex could see the woman standing over his desk, shaking her head at a PADD Alex knew had the complete Vorona 2 report on it. He was coming to realize that no proof might be good enough to pass her inspection. He wasn't trying to convince her that Vorona 2 held intelligent life, it was trying to get her to accept the nature of that life despite her many years of research that said that intelligent plants were not possible. What he needed was a different way to show what the life on Vorona 2 was like.
"Dixon to Isildur, could you come to my office please. There is someone here who needs to meet you" Alex said after activating his comm badge.
"Aye commander" Isildur replied.
Alex carried Dr. Lockett's coffee into his office and handed it to her. She took it without pausing in her review of the Vorona 2 report.
Finally, she paused, took a sip of coffee and looked over at Alex. "You're a lot younger than I thought you'd be. A Commander and Chief Science officer at 22..." she shook her head.
Alex closed his eyes briefly and desperately fought the urge to say something insulting. Instead, he tried "I'm actually 24."
"That's still very young to be making such grandiose claims" she said, shaking the PADD at him.
"Dr. Lockett, we have followed Starfleet and Science Council procedure on collecting information. Our data is easily reproduceable, assuming you go to the planet. If anyone is not following proper scientific procedure here, it's you" Alex answered heatedly, unwilling to let go of his point to this woman.
"I have been a member of the Science Council for many years, and am following our procedures precisely. How..." Dr. Lockett was interrupted by the timely arrival of Isildur.
"Excuse me" Isildur said in thoughtspeak. "Commander, you said that there was someone here who needed to meet me."
Alex watched as Dr. Lockett grabbed her head and stared at Isildur with great surprise. "Isildur is an Andalite, and you are hearing their mode of communication. Much of our data came from the lieutenants ability to speak with the plants. I would like you to talk to Isildur and understand his impressions of the planet."
Dr. Lockett nodded hesitantly and said "What do I have to do?"
"Just sit and clear your mind, Doctor" Isildur told her. Then he started to project his experiences of the planet into her mind. Dr. Lockett breathed in sharply as the images from Vorona 2 filled her thoughts. After a few minutes, Isildur stopped concentrating and Dr. Lockett relaxed.
"That doesn't prove anything except that you saw a lot of plants" Lockett said accusingly.
"We are not done yet doctor. I am merely giving you the context to understand the rest. Open your mind" Isildur ordered. The two stared at each other, and Isildur fed her the impressions that he had received from the plants. The curiousity about the strange metal shapes that had suddenly appeared on the planet, the anger and fear when those shapes started taking samples and the frustration as it continued That naturally led to the plants destroying those invaders.
The Isildur sent her the shock that the plants had felt when the new strangers had shown up, the rage that they had felt when one of their own was killed and the pain when the strangers started using weapons on them. Lockett's eyes opened wide and her mouth fell open at the images she was seeing in her head. Finally, Isildur sent her the surprise when the plants found they could communicate with the strangers, the understanding that came with the explanation of what they were doing and the happiness and finding other intelligent beings.
Isildur stopped sending, and Dr. Lockett exhaled slowly and rested her head on her hands for a few minutes as she recovered. Isildur and Alex sat quietly.
Finally, she looked up. "That was overwhelming. They are sentient, aren't they?" The two Starfleet officers nodded. "I understand. I will be leaving now. I will be bringing your full report to Dr. Marting and I will convince the Science Council to send a research ship to Vorona 2." She paused, and stared at Alex. "I envy you. You are very lucky to have discovered such a thing and be willing to understand what it meant. Especially on a planet that is in the Federations backyard. You have a very long career ahead of you, Commander Dixon." She walked to the desk and picked up a full copy of the Vorona 2 report and nodded to the two of them. "Good bye Commander, lieutenant." Dr. Lockett walked out of the lab.
Alex heaved a sigh of relief. "Thanks Isildur, you may have just saved my career."
Isildur sounded puzzled. "How did I do that?"
"It's a long story, Isildur" Alex replied.
At that moment, the Captains voice sounded over shipwide comm. "Raven, prepare to depart Starbase, senior officers report to the observation lounge at 1700 hours for mission briefing."
"Sorry Isildur, I will explain later. I have to get my department ready for departure" Alex said.
"As do I. See you in the observation lounge." Alex nodded and Isildur left the lab.

... Welcome aboard new staff and welcome back old timers ... Could you all come aboard and prepare for departure, we meet in the observation lounge in 3 hours for a mission briefing. Having made the announcement to his crew, Captain Weill retired to his ready room in order to find a bit more privacy to complete important paperwork prior to meeting with his crew in the Observation Lounge. As he sat at his desk engrossed in his work, he failed to notice a greenish fog seeping through the bottom of the doorway, nor did he notice it as it moved near his desk before it solidified into the dark figure of Tepes.
"Good evening, Captain."
Though not frightened, Captain Weill was definitely startled at the unannounced presence of Tepes.
"How did you get in here?" he questioned, not without some annoyance.
"That is not important ... Gus. Just one thing is important."
"The unmitigated gall of this civilian," thought the captain, whose anger was about to erupt. He stood to his feet and started to move around his desk to forcibly eject the visitor, but as he did, he locked eyes with Tepes – and they stayed locked!
Captain Weill could feel the drawing power of Tepes' gaze, and tried unsuccessfully to avert his vision.
"Come, Captain Weill," Tepes intoned. "I have wondrous things to show you." His hand motioned hypnotically toward the captain, who felt the drawing power of Tepes' summons, and moved slowly in his direction.
Tepes moistened his lips with his tongue, and bared fangs sought the jugular of the Captain of the USS Raven.

The Young Captain fell to the deck plate like a bag of sugar, the intruder, than seeped away, dispersed into a sea of gas and than levetated above the Captain than withdrew.
Weill was still concious but not so, he could feel soemthing within him changing, his feeling his preoccupations, his directions of thought, than within 4 minutes he was back to the mind he knew.
He stood up and than made tghe motions of dusting off his jacket, he felt his neck, he didnt know why he did it and he certainly couldnt feel any irregularities.
He stood motuonless and thought about his next move, as he was deciding what to do he forgot gradually what had happened, he didnt know what he had, had to endure, had this been the usual intrusion, he would have called intruder alert but no, he sat back down and continued with his work.
Eventually he finished the necessary work and he walked into the observation lounge on time and he saw the majority of the bridge staff there, he was pleased to see the new officers and the others talking and getting to know one another, he knew how soemtimes officers could take a long while to get to talking fluently with one another.
Weill: " Welcome, lets wait for the other officers to arive, i believe that is our First officer and Commander Cavit, please continue until their arrival"
OFF: This is a fleet wide twist to the mission, i ask you dont catch Tepes, and i will be quite normal for a while.

Majeski yawned and treched his arms out then rolled over in his bed and grabbed his alarm clock and held it up to his face to see the time, squinting he noticed it was one minute to 900 the ususal time his alarm goes off, grunting about getting up before the alarm just annoyed him, he was aboput to set it down when it whent off in his hand
"GOD DAMMIT" he roared and threw it against the wall
it took him about 10 minutes to get shower and get dressed. First thing he did was padded off to his office, wich again he found Dixion in the middle of a pile of PADDs with a pleading look
"How ?? HOW???? in the hell do you managed this" Dixion spread his arms to indicate Majeski's desk covered with PADDs, you coudn't even see the surface of it,
Sighing he pointed to the bins behind his Desk and Dixion tourned to see three bins labled *important* *not important* and *usless sh*t*
"thats how" Majeski smirked
"OH MY GOD" Alex smacked his head on the desk quite hard sending padds every where
"I'll take over tell the captaint I'll be up for the meeting in five minutes" Majeski said
"sure thing boss" Dixion grinned and walked out
it took a minute to register what Dixion called him *boss?* he thought WTF? shrugging he looked around to see if anyone else was in his officer looking , seeing the cost was clear he scooped up all the padds and dumped them in the bin marked *usless sh*t* then headed for the bridge

::Commander DanTrek, Joktel and Paria spent 3 to 4 hours going through and crawling through (much to Lt Paria's displeasure) the corridors and bowels of the Raven, going over every system and subsystem of the ship.
They were currently on Deck 14, inspecting the mechanisms of the Ground Hover Footpad Systems (ie Landing Gear). DanTrek wanted to scan the footpads individually for weaknesses that could cause buckling when they were in use. These were inside housing chambers which were not amply-spaced, which added to Paria's non-calmed mood::
DanTrek: Computer, open Landing Strut Turbolift Exit-door.
::The turbolift door which served as an exit-point for the vessel when in Landing mode opened promptly and smoothly::
DanTrek: Excellent. Computer close door.
Paria: Commander, how much longer are we going to do this? I'm feeling fatigued.
DanTrek: As long as we need to Lt.
Paria: But I'm fatigued enough that I feel like I'm going to collapse.
DanTrek: I can provide you with some support. Can you make to the corner I am in?
::Paria was puzzled at this response:: I believe I can. What do you intend to do?
DanTrek: I will explain when you come over here.
::Paria squeezed between the contracted foot of the strut and the wall, now curious as well as puzzled as to what the Chief Engineer::
DanTrek: Alright. First I'll explain what I am about to do. I am in some ways a telepath. With physical contact, I can transfer energy from myself to others.
Paria: What do I have to do? What kind of contact?
DanTrek: You personally don't have to do anything. I will place my hand on the side of your face.
Paria: Go ahead then.
::DanTrek placed his hand his hand on the side of her face and began directed energy through his arm and into her::
::Her eyes had closed but they opened again as her heartbeat picks up swiftly, the washing of energy flowing through her and restoring her::
Paria: Thank you, Commander. That was incredible.
::DanTrek's tricorder then beeped. He opened it and looked at it::
DanTrek: Well, Paria, you get your wish. We will stop now, as I have to get to a Senior Staff meeting.
::The three climbed out of the Strut-housing and DanTrek headed for Deck 1::

As everything settled down a d fatigued Chief Engineer and a equally fatigued First Officer walked in, Weill nodded as they sat down and than he looked around there was one missing member and that was the Chief Navigation Officer.
Weill: "We better get started, Commander Majeski you can bring Mr Cavit up to date later, now i welcome new officers........... our mission is simple to transport medical supplies to a planet in the area of Starbase Conqueor, this would normally be handled by them but we are going down there, also to drop off some documents to a member of the Federation Council"
Dixon: " Sir do theses documents really need an entire starship to deliver them?"
Weill: " Well you wouldnt think so but they are very important, i am afriad i cant divulge what they contain, however i want the ship at alert as a certain part may try to hijack them, i can inform you they may be the marquis"
Dantrek: " They are still active"
Majeski: " From what i can gather they are a loose confederation which is rebelling against the federation even though the cardassian conflict is over"
Weill: " Thats true....... well please be ready to depart and Commander Majeski can you inform Commander Cavit to be ready and get her department up to scratch as i havnt heard anything from her"
Majeski: "Of course sir"
The crew gradually left the room except for Dantrek, who's huge fram dwarfed Weills 5,8 frame even though Danterek was 4 feet away, Weill was looking out of the porthole
Weill: " Can i help you Commander"
Dantre: "yes sir.......... may i bring my holo projector online"
Weill: "Oh of course, just just"
Dantrek: "Sir?"
Weill: "Sorry i was figuring out who you would need to inform but as you are CEO nowone"
Dantrek: " Thankyou sir"

Alex sat down in his chair and called the Science Deparment meeting to order. His Section heads, Lts. Ruten, Collaan and Quarel looked at him expectantly. Alex looked back. He had decided to use the mission for the Raven to evaluate how his section heads had progressed.
"Well, this mission looks like it's going to be pretty quiet. We are delivering medical supplies to a planet not too far from Starbase Conqueror and dropping off something to a Federation Council member." His three section heads looked rather surprised. "It doesn't sound like there is going to be a lot of space study done on this, but we can devote some time to the ship systems. Anyone have any ideas?"
Lt. Collaan looked up. "There is still some work to be done on Volara 2. The translation algorithm could use some tweaking. There are a few transmissions a linguist in the Tricara sector. He has some interesting ideas on how to improve the algorithm."
"Good. You and someone you assign can look after that. Anything else?" Alex asked.
Yes sir," said Lt. Quarel. "I've been getting an odd, intermittent reading from Parametric Subspace Field Stress sensor. It's not serious, but it is a little odd."
"Yes, there shouldn't be any reading off of that unless there is a cloaked ship nearby. Do you feel up to taking a look at it?" Alex asked Quarel.
"Yes sir!" Quarel said enthusiastically.
"Good. Assemble a team and go see what the problem is" Alex ordered. This gave Quarel free rein to assign people as he saw fit and effect repairs. Alex thought this might be a good test of Ruten's potential command abilities.
"Sir," Lt. Ruten spoke up. "We acquired enough genetic information from Volara 2 to possibly create a genetic map of the inhabitants. We might be able to settle finally the origins of the life there."
"Interesting" Alex replied. "Select a team of 3 to assist you."
"Aye sir." Ruten said.
"OK everyone, dismissed."
The meeting broke up and the three department heads left Alex sitting in his office. This wouldn't be the most glamorous mission, but he was interested in seeing what his section heads could do. They had been pretty good so far, and he was considering recommending promotions, based on past experience and the results of this mission.
This mission also gave Alex the opportunity to work on one of his pet projects. He hadn't been too successful at it so far. He occasionally wondered whether or not they had managed to repair the smoke damage in his cadet quarters aboard the Hepta. Alex shrugged. He'd make sure to work in the lab this time where there was a fire supression system.
"Computer, access file Dixon tricorder upgrade research." An impressive record of information and research scrolled over the console. "Now access journals I have flagged and highlight articles regarding low output power utilization curves."
Alex had some ideas about how to use the main power cell to improve scanning efficiency for a tricorder. He just wanted to see if anyone was thinking the same way he was.

DanTrek now chose to finally visit his quarters and settle in. Using the turbolift just to go from Deck 1 to Deck 2 seemed almost pointless, but as the only other alternative method was the Jeffries tube, he thought it best to use the turbolift.
He walked into his quarters. He sent a request through to Starbase Storage to have his belongings transported aboard. Moments later, three large cases appeared in the main room. He went over and opened the largest of the three. Inside was a power generator, console, and about a hundred holo-emitters.
He removed the generator and console and placed them in the corner of the room. He then set to work installing the holo-emitters throughout his quarters.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
One hour later, the last emitter was in place.
DanTrek: Computer, deactivate room lighting and activate holo-grid.
Instantly the room changed. The room darkened but only for a moment. The walls changed to a rough stone. Light came from windows hewn out of the stone, with light coming in relative to the time of day. Currently the light was very slowly dimming, as it was 1900 hours.
The furniture in the room changed to classically-ornate wood. DanTrek had spent some time on Earth before joining the Academy, and had taking a liking to the style.
He moved into the bedroom. There stood the Empathic Polymorphic bed. It was designed to read the emotions and mood of the user and change it texture and firmness accordingly.
Now realizing that he had not yet eaten since coming aboard, he headed out of his quarters and down to the Mess Hall.

Alex slowly moved his arms away from his head and looked through the transparent aluminum visor of his emergency respirator into the lab and waited for his ears to stop ringing. He couldn't see very much from where he was underneath one of the lab tables, but what he could see was mostly obscured by smoke and gas from the fire supression system. The fact that only the emergency lights and yellow alert beacon were providing illumination in the room didn't improve visibility that much.
Suddenly, the main ventilation fans kicked in and the haze cleared from the room quickly. The computer must have determined that the fire was finally out. Alex cautiously moved out from underneath the lab table and looked around. The lab had come through his little tricorder experiment mostly unscathed, except for the lab table that he had been working on. There was a 3 inch hole burned right through the surface where the power supply of the tricorder had ignited and launched the tricorder off of the table. Alex had taken this moment to dive underneath the table on the other side of the aisle after grabbing the respirator that he had thoughtfully left in his workspace.
Alex had pulled on the respirator and looked around. The room was quickly filling with smoke, but Alex got a brief glimpse of the tricorder as it flew through his field of view. It was balanced on a tongue of flame that Alex knew was coming from the overloaded power supply.
The tricorder flashed out of his view, Alex heard a crash and then an explosion, and he had covered his head with his arms.
Now, he could take a look around the lab to see the results. He walked over to one of the walls, following the last course he had seen the tricorder on. Examining the bulkhead closely, he could see a scorch mark and a dent in it. Alex briefly calculated the amount of force requred to dent a reinforced duranium bulkhead and winced when he got the result.
Alex looked around and saw a smashed monitor and walked over to take a closer look. He could see the remains of his tricorder in the middle of the wrecked monitor.
He was inspecting the damage when a hand touched his shoulder. He looked around to see Dr. Lise, Captain Weill, Commander DanTrek and what looked like a medical team inside the lab. Alex hadn't heard them come in because his ears were still ringing as a result of the explosion.
"A u lit ex?" she said.
Alex looked at Dr. Lise and said "WHAT??"
Dr. Lise jumped at how loudly Alex had spoken, looked around the room with understanding and then yelled "I SAID, ARE YOU ALRIGHT ALEX?"
"YES, I'M FINE" Alex replied.
"WHAT HAPPENED?" Captain Weill interjected.
"WELL, I HAD AN IDEA FOR A TRICORDER UPGRADE, SO I..." Alex began, but Captain Weill held up a hand to stop him. Then he opened his mouth, closed it again and picked up a piece of paper and pen that was sitting on the table.
After writing for a few seconds, the Captain held up the piece of paper for Alex's inspection. It said "Commander, go to sickbay with the doctor and get checked out, then get back out here and clean up this mess."
Alex nodded and the Captain turned and left. His mouth was moving, so he was obviously saying something. Alex counted his blessings that he couldn't hear...
***Several hours later***
Alex was sitting behind the desk in his office. The lab had been cleaned up and looked pretty much as it had before. The only thing Alex hadn't been able to fix was the dent in the bulkhead. It was a small price to pay for scientific research.
He heard the door to the lab open and looked up expectantly. Captain Weill was looking around the lab. Nodding with satisfaction, he walked into Alex's office.
"Commander, I understand that you were attempting to improve tricorder design. While that's a worthy effort, I heard about what you did to your quarters aboard the Hepta the last time you tried. If you are going to experiment like that again, could you inform me so that I can alert the crew?" Weill asked.
Alex nodded and Weill left.
Alex looked back down and put the final line into his paper about his latest upgrade attempt.
"Results of this trial not as expected, but showed better results than last time..."

DanTrek tapped the key at the Ready Room door.
Weill: Come.
DanTrek entered the room.
Weill: Yes, Commander what can I do for you?
DanTrek: I'd like permission to begin working on an upgrade of the Tactical sensors.
Weill: For what purpose?
DanTrek: I want to boost their effectiveness against ECM, Electronic Counter-Measures. Right now, they are effective against 90% of ECM. I'd like to see if I can get that up to 95% or so. With this next mission, it would prove an extra advantage.
Weill: Will anything have to be taken offline?
DanTrek: Only one of the backup arrays. The upgrade will not only include the sensors themselves, but the processing systems supporting them as well. It will only decrease the Tactical Sensor systems effectiveness by 5%.

Captain Weill was interested in all the upgrades that were being completed by the very orginal staff he had, but he was worried, as there semed to be danger involved, he hoped that his staff were well.
he sat back and continued reviewing the docking procedure.
Weill: " Lt Commander Cavit, please intiate departure procedure"
Cavit: " Intiated sir, moving away at 1/4 impulse power......... bay doors opening sir.............. full impulse"
Weill: " Thankyou Commander, set course to Starbase Conquerer full impulse"
The ship started to shudder slightly, the engines may not have been in complete alignment, this often happened after leaving starbase as there was no way of making sure they were in allignment.
Weill: " Weill to Dantrek, please correct the engines"
Dantrek: "On it now sir............... there done sir"
Weill: " Thankyou Commander, please continue with your upgrades they should help esepcially if this mission turns nasty"
Dantrek: "Aye sir on it now"
Weill: "Commander Cavit, please take us to warp when we reach the edge of the starbase defence perimeter"
Cavit: "Yes sir and by the way sir, Commander Majeski informed me about the mission sir"

Alex stepped off of the turbolift and onto the bridge. His ears had finally stopped ringing and he could hear normally again.
The Raven was about to leave Starbase, and Alex wanted to be at his post. He activated his console and ran a level 4 diagnostic on his systems. Everything seemed to check out fine.
"Lt Commander Cavit, please intiate departure procedure" the captain said formally. Alex looked at the main view screen as the Raven made a speedy exit from Starbase, then began to shudder slightly. Alex checked his board and saw that there was a slight instability in the engines that was quickly and efficiently corrected by the new CEO.
Assailant faded quickly into the starfield as the Raven accellerated away and back into the formless void of space. The bridge crew seemed quite happy to be back at work. Alex decided to check on the progress of his Science teams as they did their work at their various projects. Alex did a fast check on the Parametric Subspace Field Stress sensor. It seemed to be fine, but Alex looked at the last hour of readings and saw that it had picked up something 5 times in the last hour. Alex activated his comm...
"Dixon to Quarel"
"Go ahead, Commander" the Ferengi replied.
"I'm still getting contacts from the sensor you're working on. Five in the last hour. Report your progress" Alex said.
"We're in the middle of completing a level one diagnostic on the sensor. So far, there is nothing physically wrong with it. I'm starting to think that it might be a software glitch that's causing false readings" Quarel reported.
"That could be. Contact me when you have more information. Dixon out."
Alex then got in touch with Ruten and Collaan. Their projects seemed to be proceeding normally. Satisfied, Alex monitored the sensors as the captain set course for their destination.

DanTrek and a technician stood at a work table, with a hemispherical Tactical Sensor sitting on it. DanTrek was currently using a Duilitic inverter to enhance the sensor resolution
DanTrek: There we go.
And the Sensor lost power.
DanTrek: Dang. Isolinear Phase Inverter.
The technician handed it to him and he probed the sensor.
DanTrek: Ah, here we go. Slight stability in the ODN relays. Isolinear Enhancer.
After using the Enhancer, the sensor powered back up.
DanTrek: There we go. Now to seal the problem. ODN Recoupler.
The ship shook again.
DanTrek: Paria, report!
Paria: Theres a fluctuation in warp core power output.
DanTrek: Re-initialize the KLS Stabilizers.
Paria: Working on it.
DanTrek: Good work, Paria
The trembling stopped, and DanTrek turned back to the technician and the sensor.
DanTrek: Computer, calculate Tactical sensor's Anti-ECM ability given modifications made on this sensor.
Computer: Effectiveness is at 90.7%
DanTrek: Well, Karn, it appears that we won't be able to enhance the performance of the sensor itself any further without rebuilding it from scratch. Looks like we'll have to increase the processing power behind it.

Majeski sat in his office looking though a series of blue prints of the latest Mauqis battle cruiser, It was enormus, probably the same size as a jem hadar battle cruiser, mabye even bigger and just as strong , then he looked at the aranments of the Raven, They needed back up , and any additional ships where not close enough to even bother to help sighing he looked into the details of the hull structure looking for weaknesses when weill came in
"Ah commander" Weill said
Majski stood up "sir"
"Can I say somthing ?" weill asked
Majeski nodded ,
"Next time commander your offered a command" His smile faded "take it"
Majeski nodded
"And how are the blueprints comming find any weaknesses?" Weill asked
"No sir" Majeski was tired but tried not to show it
"Well keep at it" Weill said as he walked out
"Yes sir"

Weill walked past the First Officers office, he stopped and pressed the beeper.
Majeski: " COME"
Weill: " Ah your looking at the blueprints.................... what the.................. where did you get theses"
Majeski: " The computer sir"
Weill: "Well if this is what we will come up against than we would be expected to return back to the starbase than get backup"
Majeski: "It would be expected sir"
Weill: " Well we wont, i believe that theses plans are there to scare us, as they are rebels and where would they make gargantuan ships like that"
Majeski: "Good point sir......... when i came up against the Marquis when i first joined starfleet they were weak vessels, old out of state starships"
Weill: " Continue to prepapre the ship and contact starfleet command and ask them for verifications on thses plans, also make sure the Section tactical officers knows"
Weill walked out and than straightened his uniform, he than walkes around a group of junior officers who were heading for the the tubolift, he got in.

"Computer, decrease light level by 10 percent." The bridge darkened noticeably at the Captain's last order and Alex cast a sideways glance at Lt. Commander Cavitt, who looked back and shrugged slightly. This was the second time that the Captain had darkened the light level on the bridge. Alex had noted that the bridge on Intrepid class ships weren't terribly bright to begin with, but now it was near dark. Alex quietly entered some commands into his console, increasing the amount of light that it emitted so that he could see a little better.
Alex continued to monitor the long range sensors as the ship continued to Kappa Omicron to deliver medical supplies and paperwork for the Federation Representative. There wasn't much going on in this sector, being in the midst of Section 47. All Alex had picked up so far was an interesting emmission of the element Calendenium from a neutron star in the Layron Cluster. It would have been nice to stop and take a look, but such an occurrence wasn't really rare enough to ask the Captain to delay their mission.
Slightly bored, Alex's eyes left his instruments and wandered the bridge. It seemed to be business as usual. The Engineering Duty Officer looked quite busy. DanTrek seemed to have Engineering in a fever since he had boarded. Commander Cavitt seemed to be handling her position quite well, and the Captain...well. Alex couldn't decide. Weill seemed to be a bit... distracted lately. Alex could see the Captain in profile from his station. Weill was staring at the main screen. Then his attention would shift. Alex couldn't really tell what he was looking at from where his station, but Weill appeared to be staring at Cavitt's back. Then, his gaze would jerk back to the screen for a few minutes. Back and forth.
Alex frowned in puzzlement over this behaviour and looked back down at his instruments. The Calendenium emission from the neutron star seemed to be stopping. Alex logged the reading and sent it back to the Federation Astronomical Database. Perhaps someone there would find it interesting. Alex also sent a copy to Lt. Qarel, who was head of the Space Sciences department.
Another quick scan of the sector saw that there wasn't a lot going on again. Alex changed his focus to other ships and found tracks for six vessels in the area. Five were cargo ships of various types. The sixth was listed on his readout as a cargo ship, but was not emitting a transponder code. Alex focussed a scan on it. It was a Class 4 cargo ship of Denebian design. Nothing unusual about it, really.
Alex sighed. This wasn't looking to be a very interesting mission. He looked up from his intstruments. Captain Weill was staring at Cavitt's back again.

DanTrek went off-duty and went to the Mess Hall to get something to eat. He walked up to the Galley. A dark-haired woman stood behind the counter.
"I don't believe I know you, Commander"
DanTrek: I am Commander DanTrek, the Chief Engineer.
Woman: With that size and appearance, you sure you dont mean Chief of Security.
DanTrek: Quite sure. I have no experience in Security.
Woman: Then I'm sure the systems on this ship are in good hands. I'm Berraine, Head Chef.
DanTrek: Excellent. What for dinner?
Berraine: Hasparat.
DanTrek: Never heard of it.
Berraine: Its a Bajoran dish, from my people. Its a sandwich basically; a very spicy sandwich.
DanTrek: Excellent. My people prefer high-spice foods. Although I've never heard of it, or your species before.
::He took the food and sat down. Berraine followed him and joined him at the table. He ate while they talked::
Berraine: And exactly what species are you?
DanTrek: Djzxx.
Berraine: Was that it or were you clearing your throat.
DanTrek: That was it ::he chuckled:: I often have that reaction.
Berraine: So are you the closed-off type or a xenophobic to never heard of Bajorans
DanTrek: Inquisitive, arent you? Xenophobe in this case. My people dont like outsiders. They only joined the Federation 50 years ago, so I spent most of my life unfamiliar with other cultures
Berraine: Only?! How old are you?
DanTrek: 145
Berraine: Years?
DanTrek: Yes. We have a long life-span.
Berraine: Of how much?
DanTrek: Well my, what you call a grandfather, died a few years back at the age of 198.
Berraine: Wow.
::He finished his food, and stood up:: That was excellent. Now, if you'll excuse me, I am rather tired.
Berraine: Of course. Sleep well ::she picked up his dishes returned to the Galley::
DanTrek left the Mess Hall and went to his quarters/#nosmileys#nosmileys

Alex straightened from behind his station as the First Officer said "Beta shift, take your stations." Lt. Quarel walked up and Alex mentioned all the interesting things that had happened on his shift. It took about 10 seconds. Nodding, the Assistant Chief Science Officer took the station and Alex walked out onto the bridge. The Captain was still sitting in his chair, although it was now Majeski's shift. The First Officer had taken an extra chair, and was giving his captain the occasional curious look. Usually the Captain left the bridge after a shift change, but the Captain still seemed distracted. Alex decided to try.
"Uh, Captain, would you be interested in coming to the Mess Hall with me? I understand that the cook has prepared some Acamarian dishes for the crew to try." Weill jumped as if he had been hit by lightning and his eyes fixated on Alex, startling the young Science officer.
"Thank you, but no Commander. I think that I will go to my ready room." With that, the Captain got up from his chair, walked over to the Turbolift and left the bridge, leaving a puzzled crew in his wake.
"Umm, Commander Majeski, do you know what's up with the Captain? He seems to be behaving a little...oddly...lately" Alex inquired, turning to the First Officer.
Majeski looked up with irritation at Alex. "Commander, just mind your department. I'm sure the Captain is fine. I believe that Alpha shift has been relieved..." Majeski left the sentence hanging.
Not wanting to arouse Majeski's legendary temper, Alex turned to leave, but not before he saw a concerned expression on the First Officers face.

Weill walked alone the long corridor, towards the Chief Engineers quarters, he walked slowley towards the door, he felt slight drugge, slightly dozey but he also felt there was nothing wrong, a very confused feeling, he pressed the chime, it rang and than the towering figure of Dantrek came to the door, he leant forward and than said
Dantrek: " Captain, please come in"
Weill: " Thankyou, very kind, sorry to disturb you this late"
Dantrek: "Its not that late sir"
Weill: " Oh yes sorry, my time clock is out of place, but anyway, i need to talk to you about the refit, i hope it has gone well, i really hope that it will make the ship better"
Dantrek: "Yes i hope it has, the work should be completed shortly.............. can i get something for you?"
Weill: " Yes, a hot chocolate please?"
Dantrek: "Coming right up sir......... Computer one hot chocolate and one vessian cheese drink"
The drinks materialized in the replicator bay, Weill smelt the cheese drnk, he felt quite faint, Weill sat down and Dantrek turned and put the drinks on the table, Weill got up and lucnged at the Giant of an enginner weill clambered to his neck ans thrust his fangs into the tough skin the Engineer fell to the floor, Weill sprnag to his feel and staraigtned yup and walked out.
He got about 20 feet at the end of the corridor and stopped, his mind change, he felt stronger and his mind cleared, he looked back and than thought, what had happened.

DanTrek lay as if unconscious for several minutes on the floor. His mind and his vision seemed clouded, and he was growing increasingly confused as to what happened. Eventually they cleared, and he stood up.
He walked to the mirror and looked at his neck. He thought he had been attacked at the neck, but there was no evidence to that fact. What he didn't realize was how long he had actually laid on the ground and that his body had healed itself in that amount of time.
Thinking back to the situation again to the Sensor upgrades, he went out of his quarters and into Engineering. He recieved a confused look from the Engineering Night Duty Officer.
Duty Officer: Sir?
DanTrek: Just here to do some more work on the sensor upgrade I was working on.
Duty Officer: Yes, sir
DanTrek went over to the work area and opened up the Sensor processors. He began working on ways to improve their ECM countermeasures.

OOC: Sorry it has been AGES since my last post, but here is another! WOOHOO!!! GO ME!!! I do not know if this fit but I will change it if nessecary.
IC:
Peter was sitting at his console on the Bridge, all the Bridge staff were present. He had not had time to get to know the other members of the Bridge Officers as he had been busy unpacking his things, now he was checking all the systems on the ship.
He went through them one by one. He noticed something odd with the environmental net. He scanned it briefly and it came back the same. Peter was now intrigued as to what was wrong. He opened the environmental controls from his console and saw that the overall temperature of the ship had dropped 7 degrees. He attempted to correct it, but he was blocked at every attempt.
"Commander, there is a problem with the environmental control systems. The temperature has dropped seven degrees, shipwide. I have attempted to isolate the problem and return the temperature to normal. However, I keep getting blocked from those systems. None of my command codes seem to work." Peter looked towards the shift Commander awaiting a response.

Alex stepped off of the turbolift and shivered. It sure was cold aboard ship today. Rubbing his hands together to generate some heat, Alex walked to his quarters on Deck 4 and entered.
Alex hopped into the sonic shower and dialed the heat up. His quarters were cold as well. "Computer, increase heat level by 5 degrees" he called out. When he stepped out of the shower, it was still freezing. Shaking his head, Alex put on some heavier clothes, grabbed a hot coffee from the replicator and sat down. He had a pile of scientific journals stored that he had to read through, plus some other correspondence that was still coming regarding Vorona 2.
Alex settled in and started to read.
After a few minutes, he stopped again. He was having trouble concentrating. His mind kept returning to the Captain's odd behaviour on the bridge. Captain Weill had never been indecisive or distracted on the bridge before, and Alex could see no reason for it now.
Alex continued to think. Although the Captain's behaviour was odd, it wasn't threatening or dangerous. Shrugging, Alex returned to reading and promised that he would try to keep a closer eye on what the Captain was up to.

Majeski entered the bridge and what he saw made him wonder , the ship's bridge was near dark, he looked around and then he looked at Cavit and Dixion who simply shrugged Weill was sitting at his cair looking out on the the view screen , to Majeski he seemed like in a trance almost, then somthing told his insticnts as an elf somthing was not right
He walked up to Weill and Handed him the Padd , "Sir Starfleet confirmed that these are the blue prints, they where taken off reading of the USS Monitor a defiant class ship"
An eyebrow rose on Weills face "Oh?"
Majeski nodded and sat down still wondering why his own internal alarm was sounding of danger
Weill Noticed the look on his face "Is there somthing wrong commander?"

Alex sat back and rubbed the bridge of his nose. He had been reading technical journals for hours and was done for the day. Some correspondence critical of the Vorona 2 research was still coming in, but not nearly as much as it had been a while ago. Alex felt that Dr. Lockett and her support of his work was having an impact.
Sitting back, Alex shut down his console and stared up at the ceiling, trying to relax. It wasn't working. He had been at his station for his shift, in a meeting with his department heads for several hours before that, and had just spent more hours reading. It was time to get some exercise, and he knew just where to go.
***Later***
Alex was frantically scrambling backwards on his hands and feet as the brawny Angus charged after him, swinging his broadsword mightily and grinning wildly. Alex's broadsword was in the opposite direction and he knew he was done for, again. Well, at least he was getting some exercise.
Alex's hand sank unexpectedly into a soft spot and he came to an abrupt halt. Angus stopped as well and brought his sword up, preparing to deliver a strike that would cut Alex in two. Seizing the opportunity, Alex kicked at Angus' left knee and actually hit it with great force.
Howling and off balance, Angus staggered backwards and Alex quickly rose off of the windswept heather of the Scottish Highlands. Charging, Alex hit Angus with a vicious running block into the stomach that knocked the wind out of his teacher and Angus fell, stunned. Alex continued his sprint and managed to retrieve his sword. Turning, he saw that Angus was already back on his feet, with an angry glint in his eye. "Ah, lad, ye'll be wishin ye had never done such a thing ta me" he growled menacingly.
"Easy, Angus" Alex said apprehensively. "We're just practicing, you know."
"Aye, practice..." Angus charged clumsily, still favouring his left knee and swung his sword. Alex fell back due to his opponents great strength, but carefully forced Angus to have to use his injured left knee constantly, and Angus' limp became more pronounced. Taking advantage, Alex attacked deftly, forcing Angus to really defend himself for the first time since Alex had started taking instruction. After a few moments, Alex forced an opening in Angus's defence. Parrying an strong swipe, Alex spun and stabbed the point of his sword toward Angus, stopping just before he hit.
Angus stopped moving. "That was better" he stated.
"Better? I won!!" Alex exclaimed.
"Not quite lad, look around." Alex spun his head in the opposite direction and saw the edge of Angus' sword by his throat. Angus could easily have taken his head off.
"I'd hae to say ye at leas' tied. Which is the best ye hae done so foor. Ye tried to win, and ye didn't try so hard to nae lose."
Alex turned around and faced his teacher. "Computer, save program and end." The Scottish Highlands faded and the Raven appeared. Alex started doing some stretches to warm down.
