“Well Captain, I do believe this is good bye,” Drew said as he and Captain Updeik entered the Nevada’s transporter room. Although the Nevada had not yet reached Starbase 47, Updeik had already received new orders from Starfleet Command and his ship, the USS Montana was now alongside the Nevada, awaiting his return.
“It appears so sir,” Updeik said in a jolly tone, “I must admit, I am looking forward to returning to the Montana, there is just something about your own ship, you know?”
“I do indeed,” Drew replied, looking around the Nevada’s transporter room, “indeed I do.”
Updeik smiled and then stepped onto the transporter platform, his luggage already waiting there for him.
“I wont keep you a moment longer Admiral,” Updeik said, still smiling, “safe journey.”
“And you Captain,” Drew replied, “good luck.”
After the transporter beam had claimed Updeik Drew was left alone in the transporter room with just the Chief, who was discreetly keeping her eyes fixed on her console. Drew continued staring at the room for a few moments, then realising what he was doing, decided it was probably best to return to the bridge.
It had been almost a week now since the Nevada had completed her mission in the Canis Major Delta System and the repercussions of that encounter were still being felt aboard the ship. Dan Trek continued to be receiving treatment for the injuries that he had taken while being held hostage, and was now also starting counselling sessions and the Nevada’s CO, Captain Nack, was still not aboard the ship. The events of the last mission had forced Drew to assume command himself, his first stunt commanding a frontline ship since the Fang. He had to admit, he had forgotten how fun being on the front could be, after years of teaching cadets, he realised there was a lot he had forgotten.
He arrived on the bridge just in time to see the Montana warp away and then for the Nevada itself to also reengage her warp drive and continue her approach to Starbase 47. The Headquarters of Section 47 was now only a few hours away, which gave Drew more than enough time to complete his action report for SA Nova and begin getting his things together to disembark from the Nevada once they were back in port. As was customary after a successful mission, Drew knew the crew were also planning a celebration party upon their return and had already booked rooms at the Officers Club on the base. It promised to be an enjoyable evening and would give Drew an excellent opportunity to say goodbye to the people he had gotten to know these past few weeks.
“Starbase 47 is coming into view Admiral,” Seth reported, “shall I put it on screen?”
“Please,” Drew said as he now sat in the command chair, “slow to impulse for our final approach.”
The image on the viewer changed to show Starbase 47, and much to Drew’s surprise a starship that almost certainly not be there.
“Seth, confirm that is the Vesuvius,” Drew ordered, wondering why the flagship of Alpha Squadron was so far from home.
“Registry confirms that is the Vesuvius,” Seth answered, “Shall I hail them Admiral?”
“Yes,” Drew said, “let’s see what Commodore Reckus has to say.”
Seth keyed in the commands, and then turned in his chair to look at Drew, confusion on his face, “The Vesuvius appears to be under communication blackout.”
“A blackout?” Drew said, “While docked with SB47?” That made no sense at all.
“Yes sir,” Seth responded.
“Very well, hail Base Ops, patch me through to SA Nova.”
“Sorry sir, but Ops are reporting that SA Nova is unavailable, they wish to direct us to Admiral Lin for further information.”
“Magellan?” Drew answered, now really confused, “what the heck is going on over there?”
“Ops also request that we do not dock, but maintain our distance.” Seth continued.
“They can forget that,” Drew replied angrily, “inform whoever is in command over there that the Second Officer of Section 47 is docking whether they like it or not, take us in.”
Minutes later, the Nevada, much to the protests of Base Ops was docked at Starbase 47 and the entire senior staff, including Dan Trek, were now preparing to depart the ship and begin their party at the Officer’s Club, Drew however had another destination. He was going to find Admiral Lin and Commodore Reckus and found out what was happening.
OOC:
OK, the crews of SBA and Vesuvius have spoiled my plan and are currently running a joint mission on SB47. After reading their posts, I have realised that their storyline is fairly major (they seem to have arrested SA Nova!) and that we really cannot cover me becoming SA without working their storyline into our R n R. I have not covered what any of you are doing because I figured that you all have your own ideas for what to do during leave. Feel free to use the party storyline that I have suggested or create your own. I'll have Drew go speak with Lin and Reckus in sim and then he can back and give you all the juicy gossip lol.
