(The last thread seemed pretty tapped out so I figured I'd start a new mission thread, but of course people are free to backpost anything they left unfinished from the last mission here. Also, having started most of the previous missions by already having a general outline in my mind, this time I was going to leave it open for people to have something just happen unexpectedly, like a distress call, odd sensor reading, dire message from family requiring help, anything within reason. I doubt, for example, that Q's planning to pop in and select one of the crew to give his omnipotent powers to For now, the ship's on simple patrol, and we'll see where that leads us. Hope everyone will enjoy.) *************************************************** [ El Salvador Ready Room] "Captain's log: Stardate 2398.0319. Having eliminated the threat of the pirate force that had sabotaged Federation nav-buoys to lure ships into a nebula and seize their cargo, the El Salvador has returned to her assigned patrol routes. Admiral Lisa Hayes' task force assumed custody of the captured pirates and has returned them to Starbase 24 for questioning to determine if a larger hub of pirates are staged somewhere in the local space operating similar traps. A vessel reading as a Ferengi Marauder evaded us during the brief confrontation, but insufficient readings made successful pursuit unlikely", Savot sat at the desk in the Ready Room, speaking aloud to the computer's recording banks as he reviewed new personnel files on his computer console. "Additionally, Dr. Michael Hope has left the ship's company to pursue a teaching position on Earth. I state for the record that his service to the El Salvador and her crew has always been above reproach and in the utmost spirit of professionalism. Thus far, Commander Hope has opted to remain here in her position as First Officer with the children; and while I am personally pleased at their continued presence I will certainly understand should she change her mind. In the meantime; however, I believe I am indebted to Miss Yarna to arrange for free time in which to pursue a recreational activity of her choice", as the vulcan captain came to the end of his log, the door chime sounded indicating someone was outside. "Computer, end recording and save. Enter", the doors opened with their customary whoosh to reveal none other than the First Officer Savot has so recently been speaking of, "Commander Hope, thank you for coming, please have a seat if you wish." Savot paused a moment to allow S'reena to make herself comfortable if she wished, then interlaced his fingers as he rested his hands atop his desk, "Starbase 24 has sent confirmation that Dr. Hope arrived successfully and is already en route to Earth via shuttlecraft, eta 37 hours. Should you decide to stay aboard, I look forward to continuing to serve with you, I will; however, approve a transfer request for yourself should you and the children decide to accompany him. With your Academy experience you would certainly find no difficulty acquiring a teaching position of your own." Savot felt that any further discussion of the situation on his part would constitute an invasion of S'reena's personal privacy and as such he left it at that, but he had wanted to at least assure her he would support any decision she made equally so that she did not feel pressured to stay. On both a personal and professional level Savot did hope she chose to stay aboard; the El Salvador had too long gone without the continued presence of a reliable First Officer both prior to and following Commander Jackson's service as XO. And of course while Savot would certainly miss the presence of young Yarna and the other children as well, there had also been a trust and professional rapport building between Savot and the Romulan Science officer that he was genuinely curious to see how it would continue to evolve in Hope's new capacity as First Officer. "If you have any suggestions regarding ship procedure, such as shift composition and duration, cross-training, alterations to the standard readiness drills, I welcome your input." (Any S'reena response, and continued exchange if called for) ************************************************** [Following S'reena's departure: El Salvador Bridge] Savot exited the Ready Room and moved immediately to address Commander Gaz, another reliable presence the vulcan was glad for as the navigator had served on the El Salvador previously as well so was familiar with her systems as well as some of the crew, "Mr. Gaz, during our patrol assignment I thought we might take the opportunity for you to personally evaluate the El Salvador's compliment of certified pilots and navigation personnel. Over the course of our recent assignments there have been several senior staff coming and going, and just as it's important for us to be aware of the crew's abilities and overall readiness, I also feel it would benefit the ship as a whole for the senior staff to be a visible and consistent presence to the crew. They can get a sense of what particular department heads expect thereby increasing both the quality and efficiency of their performance over time." Savot leaned over the Ops console to enter in some commands, routing them to Jamey's helm, "These are the parameters of our current patrol area; do you have any recommendations of where to stage flight drills? Shuttlecraft drills were my first thought, but I'm prepared to authorize a number of MVAM separations as well if you think the pilots could benefit from the practice." Gaz thought for a moment while reviewing the patrol area, "60 mark 170 looks good - just out side the established shipping lane. That parsec historically been quiet and squarely in Federation space." Looking over the past MVAM logs, "Multi-vector is up for qualification in a week so I do suggest we do that after our shuttle craft runs."

As per summons, after settling her children and making sure they would be all right, S'reena made her way to the captain's readyroom. Normally, she would've reported straight away but with Michael gone she was just going to have to be a little late. She took a seat as indicated and waited for the Vulcan to start talking.
"Starbase 24 has sent confirmation that Dr. Hope arrived successfully and is already en route to Earth via shuttlecraft, eta 37 hours. Should you decide to stay aboard, I look forward to continuing to serve with you, I will; however, approve a transfer request for yourself should you and the children decide to accompany him. With your Academy experience you would certainly find no difficulty acquiring a teaching position of your own."
She observed him for a moment, something she did often just to get a read on him. Like many Vulcans, it was the little things you learned to pay attention to, because on a quick glance they were indeed, unreadable. But, she knew this particular Vulcan well, and had worked with him for a while now so it was getting easier. "I have no plans of leaving the El-Salvador," she finally informed him, after a very long silence. She too, was capable of being unreadable but more from training than any kind of habit. "Michael and I had this conversation a while ago, and we decided that he should not be held back in his carreer simply because I am a first officer. Equally, he won't expect me to give up my carreer because he wants to do something else." What neither knew at that point, was that Michael would never make it to Earth.
"If you have any suggestions regarding ship procedure, such as shift composition and duration, cross-training, alterations to the standard readiness drills, I welcome your input."
Relieved that the topic was shifting off herself and her personal life now, S'reena smiled slightly. "I've always been in favour of cross training," she spoke up after considering his question, "that way if someone falls away, someone from another department who happens to be nearby can be called upon to step in. Likewise, cross training on bridge stations is a very good idea. I think we should have a rotation, where people get instructed in eachother's consoles and basic duties. Readiness drills is something that ought to be run by either the security, or the marine department, at their leisure. Best to have these things unannounced to ascertain readiness. AFter all if we announce these then everything is ready and that's not the point of the exercise is it?"
[Savot]
Elsewhere
Michael just sat staring out the window of the transport that was ferrying him and a few others from the starbase towards Earth. So far his voyage had been uneventful, even bordering on boring. Sleepily he just stared out the window, until the shuttle suddenly rocked violently, throwing him and several other passengers out of their seats. "What the," he exclaimed as he rolled and got back to his feet. Only thirty-seven hours to go until he got solid ground under his feet again. For once, couldn't things go right?
The shuttle rocked again and the navigations console exploded into sparks. The pilot screamed, throwing her arms up in her face to protect it. The co-pilot was less fortunate as he had the full load of the explosion. His charred body lay limp in his seat, the cabin now starting to fill with smoke. Michael was halfway acros the cabin to assist the pilot when he suddenly experienced the tell-tale signs of being transported, just before the shuttle exploded. There was little left of the shuttlecraft after the explosion, but there was enough evidence to suggest that all on board had been obliterated.

“Bridge to Captain Savot, there is a priority alpha one communication from Starfleet for you.” He said briskly as he tapped his console. “Routing it to your ready room, sir.”
<Tag Savot>
The screen took a few moments to establish the communications link, finally the federation logo was replaced by a face familiar to Savot.
“Commodore, I’m glad to see you well.” Admiral Stacey Jackson said as gave a slight smile. “Please make sure your alone.” She added.
<Tag Savot>
She leaned forward, “Savot, for the past two months the Cardassian government has been requesting we assist in capturing a small group of criminals hiding in Federation space.” She paused, “Apparently they broke into a Cardassian research facility and made off with some experimental equipment.” She leaned back slightly. “It isn’t dangerous stuff, impulse engine designs, sensor equipment.”
She took a deep breath. “The Cardassians don’t care so much about the equipment, more the embarrassment it has caused them, and since they retreated to Federation space they can’t do anything about it themselves.” Stacey sighed. “Starfleet wouldn’t care either but another round trade negotiations is about to begin between us and the Cardassians, if we solve this problem for them it would help our position on the bargaining table.”
<Tag Savot if needed>
“An observer from the Cardassians is on her way to meet up with you.” Stacey looked down at a padd before adding. “A Minister Porett, extend her every diplomatic courtesy please, she has been an important ally for peace and co-operation for the past couple of years, I am sending the last known co-ordinates for the thieves.” She took a deep breath. “Once you have them, you can take them to a Starbase and drop them off, the legal diplomats will do the rest.”
<Tag Savot>
“One other thing, Commodore.” She paused and took a deep breath. “Starfleet has lost contact with the shuttle that was carrying Commander Hopes husband.” She took a deep breath. “A ship has been sent investigate, when we get further information we will pass it on.” She let out a sigh. “I think you should inform her before news arrives on its own.” She looked away for a moment before adding. “I am also ordering any shore leave requests from Commander Hope be denied, I don’t want her jumping head first into a situation we know nothing about.”

“Good hunting my friend, Jackson out.” The screen flicked off, Stacey to be replaced again by the federation logo.

Savot had agreed with all of S'reena's opinions regarding drills and particularly cross-training; with the amount of collateral damage that often took place on a starship bridge key officers could be disabled and leave the ship lacking a control station it quite simply could not do without. Having bridge staff qualified to perform at least basic functions at more than one station increased the likelihood of the El Salvador surviving any duress she encountered.
Captain and First Officer had worked out a loose schedule for the cross-training before S'reena departed and Savot gave Commander Gaz the chance to organize evaluations for the El Salvador's shuttle pilots. After these had been set in motion, the vulcan returned to his quarters for awhile to meditate, feed Alfred and Isabel, and was about to contact Yarna Hope to see if she was both able and inclined to recreate, when a signal notification came from the bridge.
The screen took a few moments to establish the communications link, finally the federation logo was replaced by a face familiar to Savot.
“Commodore, I’m glad to see you well.” Admiral Stacey Jackson said as gave a slight smile. “Please make sure your alone.” She added.
Savot activated the lock on his door and engaged his personal console's high-level encryption protocols, then nodded to the Admiral to indicate he was sufficiently isolated. He could not recall any previous time where he'd been contacted directly by a Section Admiral, but he quelled his curiosity as simply hearing her out would more rapidly provide useful data than a round of frantic guessing on his part.
Savot nodded, understanding the political motivations behind the mission, "Two months is a significant duration for the group in question to have sold or bartered away the equipment in question, and perhaps even have split themselves up to reduce their chances of discovery. What is the latest intel available on the theft and the thieves?"
Savot trusted that since Admiral Jackson had emphasized the importance of cooperating with and extending diplomatic courtesy to this Minister Porett, but had instructed him to deposit the criminals at a Starbase upon their capture, that Minister Porett had already agreed to the initial arrest and charges being handled by the Federation, with possible extradition to Cardassian space following that. He nodded his understanding of their orders and was about to accompany the nod with a verbal assurance when Stacey continued speaking with a dire tone.
“One other thing, Commodore.” She paused and took a deep breath. “Starfleet has lost contact with the shuttle that was carrying Commander Hope's husband.” She took a deep breath. “A ship has been sent investigate, when we get further information we will pass it on.” She let out a sigh, “I think you should inform her before news arrives on its own.” She looked away for a moment before adding, “I am also ordering any shore leave requests from Commander Hope be denied, I don’t want her jumping head first into a situation we know nothing about.”
Savot's brow had furrowed in concern at her initial statement regarding Doctor Hope's shuttle, and a single eyebrow arched a bit in slightly surprise at the Admiral's instructions regarding any leave requests from S'reena. One of the downsides of having a superior who also has enough personal knowledge of you to guess how you might likely react to a given situation. Savot agreed with the Admiral's logic, but still did not relish the news he now had to deliver.
"Understood Admiral. I appreciate being kept apprised of any new developments regarding Doctor Hope; and upon successful completion of our current assignment I would request clearance to pursue whatever leads the investigating ship uncovers. Peace and long life, Admiral", Savot gave his former First Officer the vulcan hand salute, and prepared to summon his current First Officer.
“Good hunting my friend, Jackson out.” The screen flicked off, Stacey to be replaced again by the federation logo.
Savot wasted no time once Stacey's face had vanished from the screen, =^=Savot to Commander Hope, please return to the Ready Room at your earliest convenience.=^= He then unlocked his quarters to make his own return to the bridge.
*************************************************
Savot resumed the conn following the customary whoosh of turbolift doors returning him to the bridge, and as he took the center seat he accessed the data Admiral Jackson had sent on Minister Porett's ship, "Commander Gaz, we are to rendezvous with a diplomatic envoy from the Cardassian government in preparation to apprehend criminals who absconded with data and equipment from one of their research laboratories. Full briefing will take place upon the envoy's coming aboard, one Minister Porett. Lay in an intercept course to her transport and engage at best speed; time is of the essence."
Working the CONN, Gaz configured the helm as requested. Plotting was like breathing to him and avoiding general traffic was going to be a must for Savot's request. "Course plotted and laid in, warp 7 best speed." The El Salvador turned to the bearing and whirled to life in a brilliant flash of light.
While he was never one to dawdle on any assignment, Savot's true interest in making the best use of time possible was to successfully complete their current assignment as rapidly as possible so as to free themselves to aid in the investigation as to Doctor Hope's fate at the earliest opportunity.
After the El Salvador was in motion to meet the minister's ship, S'reena returned to the bridge as well and Savot nodded in greeting even as he rose to preceed her into the Ready Room. The vulcan took his seat and got straight to business.
"Admiral Jackson has just contacted me with orders to rendezvous with a Cardassian representative in pursuit of thieves who made off with data and equipment from a Cardassian research lab", Savot interwove his hands atop his desk as he spoke, not rushing to deliver the next news but knowing there was little to accomplish with delay either, "Though I suspect the motivation for her personal involvement was to inform us that contact has been lost with the vessel carrying Doctor Hope to Earth just over 1 standard hour ago. She wished to assure you that a ship is already en route to investigate the loss of contact and new data will be sent to us as it's discovered."
"Our current assignment is apparently too significant to assign to another ship, but I expressed the El Salvador's desire to join in the investigation as soon as we're finished", concerned at perhaps having pried too far into personal territory in their previous discussion, this time Savot merely waited for Commander Hope's response before offering any further comment himself.

For a moment, S'reena sat very still as she digested the news of her husband having gone missing. Her face went a little paler than usual and her eyes misted up a little, but not for long. She didn't cry and she didn't otherwise give any indication of her concern though she doubted Savot had missed any of her feelings. He was, after all, a proximity telepath, like the majority of Vulcans and, after working with him for so long she knew he could read her just as easy as a mere Human.
"Thank you for telling me," she finally told him, looking him straight in the eyes. "I don't think it'd be right for the El Salvador to deviate from her mission, and it takes as long as it takes. I suspect everyone expects me to request leave to join the search but I respectfully request to remain here. I'd only be in the way during the search and I'd probably drive them nuts too in the process."
She looked away from him, finding an interest in the fishtank. "I'm almost afraid to tell Yarna though, because I don't know how she'll respond to this, if she hasn't already. She's so sensitive, I suspect she'd even get very upset if something happened to you."
The Romulan reasserted her gaze on the commanding officer. "She's very attached to you, and I can't explain why."

She stepped into the ready room after pressing the small console at the side of the door, Admiral Jackson had contacted her and Dean shortly after speaking to Commodore Savot, it was mostly a personal call but she did give heads up on thier next mission. And to warn her not to be too pushy with Commander Hope in regards to trying to help her, that was Counsellor to Counsellor talk.
Hannah looked down and although she felt sorry for Commander Hope and the turmoil she must have been feeling she knew there was nothing she could add to that specific subject that could offer any help.
She called up some information on her PADD and said. “Captain, I took the liberty researching Minister Porett, She has been an Ambassador for the Cardassian Union since the civilian government was enacted after the Dominion war, during which she was imprisoned for speaking out against the Alliance with the founders.” She scrolled down the page of scant information. “About two years ago she was elected into their government and given the position of Minister for Instellar Relations.”
She took another deep breath. “She has championed peace treaties and alliances with the Federation and other peaceful governments.” She shifted in her chair, “However her political pull and popularity with her people has been waning in the face of her inability to get the Federation to co-operate in hunting down these thieves.”
“It is likely the Federation council recognized that unless we took action she may well lose her position in the next elections and be replaced with a more Militaristic individual who takes a less pleasant view of the Federation.” She put down the PADD and added. “While I am sure Admiral Jackson is taking a personal role in locating Commander Hope’s husband I believe this mission may well hold more importance than what it appears to do on the surface.”
“Cardassia still has Military Officers and civilians who believe they were better off under Military rule, should the Civilian Government lose the support of its military we may well find ourselves dealing with the hostile Cardassian Union of thirty years ago.”

Before she could respond the communications channel opened. “Bridge to Captain Savot, a shuttle has just entered the system they are requesting permission to come aboard, they are carrying Minister Porett.”
Hannah looked to Hope and whispered. "I'm here if you or any of your children need me." She slightly bowed her head indicating she would say nothing more on the subject lest she bes asked too directly.

James had spent the last several months rehabilitating from a serious injury he had sustained on the U.S.S. Nevada at Starfleet Headquarters on Earth. Though he was unable to be a First Officer at least for the time being Starfleet Medical had cleared him for duty as a Chief Engineer. So the looking for a new command had begun, and before long he’d been reassigned to serve on board the U.S.S. El’Salvador. As it turned out Command felt that perhaps after serious mental and physical trauma it was in the best interest of everybody that Commander Cohen be returned to where it had all began and not on board the Nevada where serious repercussions may take place.
As soon as he stepped on board the El’Salvador horrible memories of being on a ship began to unfold as he limped forward. He looked down at his right leg and the cane in his right hand that gave him balance. The explosion replayed itself in his mind causing a great deal of emotional pain at nearly losing his right leg. He leaned heavily against the cane before using his free hand to smooth out the new yellow uniform. Being back on a ship had some benefits; the good memories that flooded back were some of those benefits. He tried to get assigned back to the Nevada to continue to serve with Captain Park. It was where he felt that he’d belonged, but Starfleet disagreed with the assumption. The last few months were the most difficult of his life as the explosion played off in his mind again.
James ignored it continuing to walk forward until he found main engineering remembering all the feelings he’d had in that room before. He tried his best to smile as a Lieutenant walked past him. James wished that he hadn’t come almost as soon as he’d seen the person standing there. He gave a brief nod before trying to turn and walk away no longer wishing to look down at the core and all the stations that littered the space. Rehabilitation had been damaging to his spirits the explosion played again he blinked his eyes closed trying to think past that time, but his mind continued to return back to that.
“Sir?”
James turned and looked at the Lieutenant who was looking at him beginning to quickly analyze him. The lieutenant was female only perhaps five foot and about an inch tall brown hair and brown eyes. She was human, “Yes Lieutenant?”
“Welcome aboard Commander Cohen.”
James tried to retain the smile, “Thank you Lieutenant.” He offered before limping towards the turbolift, “Bridge.” He said and gently tapped the bottom of the cane on the floor while he rode upwards until it finally came to a stop and the doors opened up. He slowly walked towards the ready room and pressed the chime.
[Tag Savot]
James entered upon getting permission, “Commodore.” He said and placed his padd on the Commodore’s desk, “I believe these are in order sir.” He said as if Commodore Savot was not the same person he’d known from so long ago.

"Thank you for telling me," S'reena finally told him, looking him straight in the eyes. "I don't think it'd be right for the El Salvador to deviate from her mission, and it takes as long as it takes. I suspect everyone expects me to request leave to join the search but I respectfully request to remain here. I'd only be in the way during the search and I'd probably drive them nuts too in the process." While Savot respected the vast majority of those he had worked with during his Starfleet service, and a distinct few held his sincere respect, at present none matched that which he had for Commander Hope. Even with his limited emotional experience he was well aware that family often evoked more emotion than anything else, and yet faced with the current crisis S'reena was clearly impacted by it but still not only deduced but opted to take a completely rational and logical approach without any external prompting from anyone else. He believed he knew fewer than a Terran handful of beings who both could and would do the same under the circumstances. She looked away from him, finding an interest in the fishtank. "I'm almost afraid to tell Yarna though, because I don't know how she'll respond to this, if she hasn't already. She's so sensitive, I suspect she'd even get very upset if something happened to you." The Romulan reasserted her gaze on the commanding officer, "She's very attached to you, and I can't explain why." The vulcan bowed his head slightly acknowledging the compliment within the fact, "Her sensitivity is indeed quite remarkable. Upon our first meeting here in the Ready Room, you had recently reported one of your fellow away team members killed, and Commander Jackson was injured and held captive as well." Savot turned to glance at the empty couch that during the time of his recounted tale had held little Yarna, "I did not know what provoked it at the time, but upon hearing your debriefings after the mission I believed it was these events which caused Miss Yarna to suddenly begin screaming without warning. Kahlan was present as well, having tracked her sister to the ready room, but was as helpless to aid Yarna as the rest of us were." His brow arched in a facial shrug that seemed to admit the un-scientific manner of his solution as he continued the story, "As the EMH's scans found nothing physically wrong, my rather amateurish assumption was that Yarna may have picked up on someone's emotions that were too strong for her youth to cope with unaided. And if that were the case, I surmised that if she could sense emotion from such a distance, that touch-telepathy might be successful as well." He looked back to Commander Hope with his hands clasped behind him as he finished, "I could think of no other way to assist, so I merely took her hand, established eye contact with her and attempted to project a sense of calm and reassurance. Hoping she would be able to 'borrow' my coping experience to a degree via the physical contact of our hands. Even now I cannot confirm that it was of any true benefit, or if she merely calmed on her own, but after a moment she was in control and merely said 'Thank you', and gave me a hug if I have the term correct." "That; however, the brief time meeting your family on Earth, and of course the evening the Doctor and I spent with the ship's children are the only extended interactions Miss Yarna and I have had. Though I am also to explain it, I am thankful for her friendship; she is a special young lady", hearing the scientist's voice say thinks like 'hug' was probably amusing to some degree, and though his formal overtone remained in place his voice noticeably warmed during his recollections. (Leaving sufficient time for any response before Jackson's arrival) Soon thereafter the Ready Room chime announced the arrival of Counselor Jackson who had taken the initiative to do a preliminary profile on Minister Porett. Savot listened intently to what she had to share, nodding throughout as he correctly intuited Admiral Jackson's reasons for stressing this assignment. "I concur, Counselor. The exploitation of the Cardassians by the Dominion is what allowed the Federation to begin a peace with them afterward via humanitarian aid. If we fail to live up to our responsibilities we can hardly expect them to remain amenable to peaceful relations, particularly if a militant faction is attempting to rise", Savot stated, though he also felt that regardless of the political ramifications, stopping thieves was the right thing to do anyway. Before Hannah could respond the communications channel opened, =^=Bridge to Captain Savot, a shuttle has just entered the system they are requesting permission to come aboard, they are carrying Minister Porett, as well as a replacement Chief Engineer.=^=Savot leaned slightly to activate a button on his desk console, "Acknowledged, landing permission granted in Main Shuttlebay. Per diplomatic protocol provide a security detail to meet the Minister, Savot out."Turning to the ladies Savot nodded slightly, "Commander Hope would you please welcome the Minister aboard and arrange quarters for her for the duration of our mission? Counselor Jackson as you've established some familiarity with the political situation I'd appreciate you joining them. I'll join you as soon as I've confirmed our new Engineer's orders, thank you." (Response if any; assuming Hope and Jackson depart before Cohen's arrival.) *******************************************
James entered upon getting permission, “Commodore.” He said and placed his padd on the Commodore’s desk, “I believe these are in order sir.”
Savot bowed his head in greeting to his former and new CEO, "Welcome back to the El Salvador Mr. Cohen; I hope you find your tour of duty with us satisfactory. Your previous quarters are available if you want them, or a new room assignment can be arranged if you prefer."
(Response if any)
"Our current assignment involves the Minister you shared shuttle transit with; tracking a group responsible for theft of research, apprehension of same and ideally recovering the data for return to the Minister. I'm holding a senior staff briefing with the Minister in 1 hour", Savot keyed his confirmation of transfer orders into Cohen's padd before returning it, pleased that an experienced engineer would be aboard for a time.

[Occurring after all officers have left the bridge, and the Minister has disembarked from her shuttlecraft. Whether anyone reached her to welcome her aboard before these events take place I'm leaving up to character discretion. I recommend each character at least begin isolated from all the other typists' chars so you can do one or two posts freely without being restrained waiting for tags. Once people start posting, they can gradually make their way wherever they so choose and rendezvous to post back and forth.]
[El Salvador Bridge]
Savot was making his way to the turbolift to join the others in welcoming Minister Porett. Even as the doors whooshed open, the Lieutenant at Ops spoke up to get his attention, "Captain, I'm getting an odd reading directly aft of our position..."
Even as they spoke, the vulcan captain made his way to the front center of the bridge to look at the readouts himself. "The signal drops in and out, could be hiccuping through subspace theoretically. Our shields were activated upon receiving the Minister, and her shuttle's been given the resonant frequency needed to depart through them; if they fly through whatever that is it could cause severe damage."
Savot furrowed his brow as another possibility came to mind, and even as he issued instructions to the Lieutenant he himself began typing away at the far right of the console, "Pull the sensor logs from the moment the Minister's shuttle entered through our aft shields and plot its course based on its movement line. Signal the shuttle to abort its departure and return to our shuttlebay."
"Movement plotted Captain, at both objects' current speeds the distortion will hit the shuttle just as it passes through our shields... unable to reach the shuttle due to interference from the distortion sir!", the Lieutenant said frantically, but Savot noted his quick response, closing the main shuttlebay door since pulling the shuttle back was no longer an option.
Savot finished his tapping, having rerouted the shield grid to try to absorb as much of the imminent explosive energy as possible and discharge it away from the El Salvador via the main deflector array. This could short out the entire power grid and cause serious damage to the dish, but the alternative was letting the destructive energy destroy the ship.
As he worked calm but hurriedly to try and avert disaster, he activated ship's comms so that everyone aboard could hear him, "Bridge to all hands, brace for impact!", and before his last word fully left his throat, whatever the object skipping in and out of subspace was struck the unaware shuttle right as the El Salvador's rear shields were making a line through its middle.
The main viewscreen lost visual instantly after showing the beginning blossom of a spectacular explosion, and the entire ship rocked with the force of it, console bursting out with sparks throughout the vessel as the power grid labored heavily to obey its Ops-given commands and shunt the majority of the energy outward through the deflector dish.
Computer readouts were all inactive for the moment at least, but when Savot had to brace himself on the console to avoid falling forward from a secondary impact, he assumed with some confidence that the deflector had fired... and somewhere along the way the inertial dampeners had suffered some damage as well. With computerized visuals out, only a look through a viewport, or sensitive 'star legs' would allow a person to realize the ship was listing slightly.
For the moment; however, she was intact. And Savot's recollection of their position away from any major planetary bodies or constructs allowed him to push massive collision down on his rather lengthy inner list of potential crises to solve. Trying to access the Engineering computers on the bridge proved fruitless as he'd expected, but it was possible that Engineering itself was still functioning to some degree at least.
His immediate priority was ensuring warp core stability lest the entire ship survive the initial event only to blow herself up afterward. Immediately thereafter was ascertaining injuries among the crew and treating them; following that, was working as quickly as possible to restore the El Salvador to some level of functionality capable of defending themselves in case the 'incident' with the subspace distortion had somehow been intentional.
Savot turned to those present, instructing Lieutenant Tamarov at Ops to hold command here on the bridge, "Lieutenant Carr and Mr. Zakryn, focus on opening paths of travel between decks in groups of 3. At the center deck of each grouping establish a medical triage area in any available space to limit the distance any injured have to be moved as I've no doubt our transporters are currently inactive. Mr. Zakryn establish a security presence on each deck with a primary directive of aiding in the recovery of injured personnel, but be prepared for the possibility of a boarding action, and upon reaching the shuttle bay direct Minister Porett to the nearest medical staging area and provide her an individual security member to ensure her safety."
"Mr. Tamarov, send a team to primary torpedo bay to manually program and launch a probe containing a secure distress communique to be transmitted to the nearest Starfleet forces for assistance. If possible, launch a second with a sensor package remotely synched to a tricorder so we can get some data on what's going on around us. I'll be moving directly to Engineering to assure core stablity and assist with system repairs. First priority will be communication, until then send runners between sections with any urgent information or orders; dismissed", Savot nodded to his collective staff and they each began their assigned tasks.
Unfortunately, the turbolift that had previously opened for him had not conveniently remained open well past its normal duration, so the first task of manual was to manually pump the doors open as the Gorn Chief Petty Officer Zakryn popped Jeffries tube hatches with efficient strength and everyone began to worm their way through the vulnerable battleship...

The main shuttlebay still managed to be extremely large even on a relatively small ship class like the Prometheus. Hannah actually disliked stepping foot it the gigantic room for any reason never mind to greeting dignitaries.
She walked up to the small Cardassian shuttle and watched the door slowly open, her eyes intently watched as a rather imposing Cardassian stepped to the side and revealed a slim and aged Cardassian woman. Despite her small stature and age she still managed to seem more imposing than the bulky young soldier escorting her.
Hannah stepped forward and cleared her throat. “Minister Porett welcome to the El Salvador, I am Counsellor Hannah Jackson I have been asked to escort you to Commodore Savot, he regrets not being able to greet you himself but he had was needed on the bridge.”
Porett smiled warmly as she nudged the soldier to the side. “Wait here, I can do without you eye balling everyone I meet.”
“Counsellor, thank you for the welcome, if you could please escort me to Commodore Savot we can get this search underway and I can get out of your hair.” She stepped out of the shuttle and nodded slightly at Hannah.
“Of course this way.” She motioned toward the main door. “Will he be alright here?’ she asked as she looked up at the solider now standing in the shuttles doorway. “Yes he prefers to stay with the shuttle.. safeguard its secrets and all that.” Porett replied with a sigh.
*Turbolift*
Jackson turned to Porett and asked. “I’ve read some of your lectures, you can’t have gained many friends pushing for allied treaties with the Federation and Klingons.”
“The younger people don’t remember the wars, they are tired of being held back by old hatreds, we grow with the times or we let old wounds bleed us out.” She sighed slightly. “Cardassians are changing and I think for the better.” She was about to continue when the turbolift came to a sudden stop, the ship rocked and she fell to the floor.
