Harry, who had finally been discharged from Sickbay after the last mission, walked about the promenade of Starbase Forty-Seven. As usual, there were a myriad of shops and stands about, some permanent, some not. He always liked viewing the "scenery." The women were always astoundingly beautiful and from all over the galaxy. It always made for a much more interesting.....
=/\= Fargwey to Lieutenant Wedlerson. =/\=
~Always while I'm "working".....~ He tapped his comm. "Go ahead."
=/\= Please report to Holodeck Four. Your physical therapy will be there today.=/\=
The comm clicked shut as he said, "Yeah, say it in front of the whole damn station. Since we don't all already know that I'm out of it." Perhaps he made more of a scene than was neccessary, but he didn't care. Making way back to the direction he came from, he proceeded to the holodeck in question.
-----------------------------
The doors swished open to reveal a target range. ~Oh Christ....not what I need right now..~ "Reporting as ordered."
"That's 'reporting as ordered, Sir!'" came the stout reply.
~Damn marines.~ Harry joined the group.
The Lieutenant Colonel in charge stepped in center. "We're doing drills today. Every one of you will partake in the three stages of this drill. The range, the run, and the rescue. Failure to meet standards on these stages will result in you failing your team. Do NOT fail your team. Any questions?"
Harry started to raise his hand.
"Good. Weston, Smith, you are in group one. Jennings, Jones, group two. Daya, you get him." The marine pointed at Harry, who raised an eyebrow to the insult. His trigger finger was starting to get itchy.
Daya moved to the range, where group three was to start. Harry followed, rolling his eyes. The Colonel eventually joined them, saying, "Group Three, you will start with the range. Upon completion of you designated tasks, you will report to the running course. Feel free to complete the course under the alotted time. Should you not, you will do it again and again until you do. Finally, you will take the rescue simulation. You know the drill. Go! Go! Go!"
Each man in group three pick up his weapon and began to shoot.
Harry stood next to Daya. "Hey, so what's up his [word deleted] today?"
(Daya, feel free to carry on as far as you wish)

Daya had arrived at the holo deck as one of the first officers to show, having already ran out of things to do for the day. He patiently waited until 4 other members arrived, conversing with the officers about the days session. When the last officer showed up and reported in the marine Lt. Colonel barked at him for forgetting to say sir. Daya smiled to himself and listened to the marine give his speech on the days drills. Daya, you get him." The marine pointed at Harry. the commander simply nodded and moved to stand next to Harry. "Commander Daya, Raven's Tactical security officer" He said as he bent over to pick up his phaser rifle and sling it over his shoulder on the way to where their group would start.
<tag Harry>
After hearing the Marine shouting something about drills and go go going, Daya rasied his rilfe and fired a couple shots, hitting the intended targets in the center. "Bull's eye. He's a marine, most of them are like that, just shrug it off and you'll be fine" Daya said with a smile. Putting the rifle down he picked up the phaser and fired a couple more shots, also hitting the centers of the targets..
"Team 3, move on the running drill!" The Marine yelled from across the training grounds. Daya picked up his rifle and jogged over to the running course, which looked much like a 21st century military obstacle course. Dropping his gear he started running with Harry right next to him. "So why are you here?" Daya asked in between jumping over and crawling under logs. <tag Harry> Daya forced himself to interrupt as the officer went on about his days in the academy "I meant why are you in physical therapy?" He said with a slight chuckle as he grabbed onto a rope swing.

Daya listened as the officer explained what caused him to be in therapy before adding his own reasons. "I was stricken with a sickness for a few months, and instead of going to sickbay i asked to go home for awhile and rest by myself. As a result I didn't keep up on my physical training so they sent me here. Although i have had a couple months in between recovering and being assigned, so i did some training on my own." By the time both officers had finished their conversation they had completed the running drill within the allotted time. "Commander Daya, way to keep up on your skills, Welderson...." Daya looked over at Harry as they waited for the marine to say something. "Alright team 3 move to the rescue drill" Daya chuckled to himself as Harry cursed the marine and followed him to the rescue drill.

Harry heaved over a little bit, trying to catch what was left of his breath. He was only barely able to keep up with the unit. His injuries, having been substantial, most definitely hindered his abilities to perform at peak efficiency. Usually, he had no trouble keeping up with his own physical work out regimen, a long jog, intense weightlifting series, and a swim. It was easily worthy of the marines and tactical personnel to use. But today, he was definitely meeting a true challenge to his true recovery.
"Remind me to shoot the doctor in charge of my chart," Harry said to Daya.
"Right," Daya replied, chuckling.
As ordered, they gathered with their group, a squad of marines ready to do whatever was next. Harry rolled his eyes and meandered over to the gun rack. All the unit grabbed phaser rifles and stun grenades. They gathered in front of the first sergeant.
"Inside this compound is a team of highly trained assault soldiers holding a team of scientists hostage. Your mission is to rescue them." It the very short pause, one of the marines began to walk towards the entrance. "Get back here, its not that easy. You will split into two teams. Alpha squad with make their way directly to the hostages. You will be met with heavy resistance and a force field that will need to be shut down by Gamma squad. Either way, the path to your objectives will be difficult. Divide yourselves into teams and good luck."
Harry looked at Daya. "Well, I guess this is where we part ways. Stay in radio contact and holler when you are near the force field."
Harry nodded and stalked off after Gamma Squad.

Gamma squad entered the westernmost side of the complex. It housed a large tower and two buildings, one considerably bigger than the other. The lead marine of the squad took a knee and dropped the first man at watch atop the tower. The body came crashing down. It alerted a few guards close to the door of the tower. Harry took aim and hit one squarely in the chest, while the rest scrambled for cover. The firefight ensued. Many shot were fired, several whizzing much too close to Harry's head. All but one of the guards were dealt with, the final rushing to the wall and hit a large red button. The alarm rang throughout the entire complex.
"Haven't you guys ever heard of 'stealth'," Harry asked sarcastically.
Taking the final guard out, they proceeded to clear the smaller, hut-like building first. No one was in the building and they pressed on to the larger building, where they were met with much resistance. Going through the smaller building gave the guards a small amount of time to build successful barricades and fortification, allowing them a serious amount of cover. Gamma squad spread out, each taking a particular section of area to cover. The fire fight continued.

Daya sighed to himself as he heard the mission plan from the drill sergent like marine. Daya and his team had taken a path that led to the east side of a large complex. Once they were in position to move forward Daya sent 2 scouts ahead to look for the path of least resistance. When they returned Daya couldn't help but smile to himself. "Gamma squad somehow alerted the gaurds, half the resistance we should have faced ran to the west side to stop them." one of his scouts informed him. "And i thought we were the ones who had it rough" Daya said as he moved his team forward. "Split up into two groups, each group will cover the other as we move up. 1st group on me" The commander moved in a crouch and stopped just short of the tree line where they had taken refuge away from the complex. The second group moved up quickly and burst from the tree line, dropping the two gaurds left to watch the entrance. Daya ran forward and through the entrance, firing off two shots which hit their targets. With his back against a building, Daya peered around the corner and saw a shed like building, with a force field around it. "Daya to Wedlerson, Harry we found the force field. How close are you to taking it down?"
<tag>
"Shield is down" Daya said over the radio, as his team moved towards the shed. "Wedlerson to Daya, we need back up. It seems we took more then we could handle" Daya stopped short of his target and moved his team over to an empty truck. "Alright, i need 4 to stay with me, the rest of you follow around the inside of the complex and give them some cover."

Taking every opportunity to shoot down whatever he could get at, Harry maneuvered his way towards the door of choice. Behind it, he would find the controls to lower the shield. The enemy fire was getting less and less. They finally reaeched the door and Harry rushed in. The couple marines took up positions outside the door to keep suppresive fire up. They did their job quite well. Harry went right up to the console and worked over the keys. He found the controls to the shield and cut power, rerouting it to other systems and locking the controls out. This was to ensure no one could bring it back up and lock them in.
//Daya to Wedlerson, how close are you to taking the shield down.//
Harry raised an eyebrow, pressing the last button.
//Shields is down.//
"Get them out, now!!"
Harry moved towards the door and peeked outside. The area was quiet. Looking around at the positions the marines set up, he saw that both of them were down and out cold. He suddenly saw twelve armed men coming to his position.
"Wedlerson to Daya, I need back up. I believe we bit off more than we could chew over here."
If he started now, he might at best be able to take three of them out before they could react, but that would not help against the rest.
He whispered into his comm.
"Daya, both my men are down. Get the hostages out. That is the highest priority. I'll deal with whatever they throw at me."

Daya watched as the 4 other members of his team took off along the inside of the complex towards Harry, who seemed to have lost his team in the fire fight. Daya peered around the truck and noticed only two guards standing by outside the shed like building. Taking aim he fired and dropped one, the other being felled by his team mate. Once he reached the shed Daya fired his blaster into the door controls, causing them to open. Looking inside he saw the hostages huddled in the corner, "Every body up, we have to move" he called out, standing guard at the entrance as his team cut the hostages loose. "Get them out" he said to the nearest member, before dashing in the direction of Harry.
Coming to a stop at the corner of a building, Daya peered around and saw his four team members on the ground "dead." "Damn it" He whispered as he caught sight of a group of enemy soldiers, about eight in total. They had a doorway surrounded and Daya barely saw the face of Harry as he ducked behind cover again. The enemy hadn't noticed him yet so he still had the element of surprise, and as he looked over at his downed men, he saw one of their phasers on the ground. With a soft grunt he bolted towards his men and scooped up a phaser as he dove behind an empty vehicle. Now wielding two phasers in his hands he stood up and leaned with his back against the door, looking through the window he smiled when he saw the soldiers didn't see him. "Hold on Harry, i'm coming" Taking a step out in view he fired one phaser and then the other, dropping two men before they knew what hit them. In the time it took their comrades to look down and back towards him, the commander fired again and downed two more. Making his way towards the enemy he saw phaser fire from inside the building hit one of the men in the side, taking him out. Daya fired his phasers again and hit one man in the chest and another in his shoulder, knocking them both to the ground. The last soldier managed to fire his weapon and the blast ripped into Daya's left tricep, effective causing him to drop his phaser and lose the use of his arm for the time being. Daya saw the man take aim and the commander fired his remaining phaser seconds before the enemy, dropping him to the ground. Daya sighed breifly before running another 50 yards to the door. "Harry, you ok?" the commander said leaning into the doorway.
<tag>
"oh this?" Daya said looking at his arm."it happens" he said with a smile. They watched as the simulation ended and their team members stood up, shaking off their injuries as if it was normal. Daya looked down at his arm and watched the burn disappear. "Congratulations ladies, you have passed the final drill" They heard the voice of the Lt. Colonel from behind them, helping another member off the ground.
<tag>
"No man left behind" Daya replied as Harry inquired about his reasons for helping him. "i do my best to make sure any man on my team returns."

Harry remained in the building. He heard the riflefire coming from those who had come to assist Harry and his team, but after sevearl minutes. That too died off. Harry could hear orders being shouted across this side of the complex as he was searched for by who ever was left on the enemy side. He peered out the crack of the door, in a feeble attempt to get the lay of the land. He counted seventeen enemy combatants, ready for blood. Harry retreated back in the room to assess his situation and try to find a way out without getting caught and killed. He suddenly heard the sound of phaser fire coming from out side again. Heard heard many groans and screams of pain. After several minutes, a figure appeared in the doorway. Harry raised his rifle to shoot, until he heard a voice. "Harry, you ok?"
Harry rolled his eyes. "Of course I'm ok. I had the situation under control. I told you to get the hostages out."
"It's done," was all Daya said.
"Damn tactical officers and thinkig you're all that. What about that?" Harry asked, pointed at the Commander's arm.
"Oh this? It happens."
The two walked out and rejoined the group. The drill sergeant walked up. "Congratulations ladies, you have passed the final drill."
"Fantastic. Another mission, taken out!" Harry exclaimed with as much sarcasm as he could muster.
------------------------------
The two walked out onto the promenade of Starbase 47. Harry took a good look around before saying, "I want a drink. I'm sick of being conscious. I'm voting the bar."

"Are you sure you can keep up?" Daya asked with a smile, "I have to warn you, I was a champion in a couple eating contests, the most recent being in the academy. I'm pretty sure i have the advantage over you here pal" the commander said as they continued walking.

"I'll believe that when I see it," Harry retorted to his new-found friend. They made their way to O'Tooles, a station favorite frequented by their own commanding officer, Commodore Torek. If the Raven ever made it back to base, it would easily be likely that the good commodore could be found tipping back a cognac or two....or several. The commodore was certainly not afraid of the drink, which to some was a good trait. Harry and Daya sat down at the bar, in Harry's opinion, the best place to sit if you wanted a the booze to come quickly. A Orion female barkeep came up to them, one who was unfamiliar to Harry. "What'll it be boys?" Harry piped up first. "He wants you, and I'll have what he's having." He burst out into laughter at the sight of Daya's ghostly face. "Oh get a grip Mr. Tactical Man. I'll have a....is Romulan Ale still illegal?" The Orion raised her eyebrow, obviously not amused. "It has always been, and it always will be." "Can't take a bloody joke," he muttered. "Alright how about a measure of gin, two measures of tequila, and a dash of vodka. Nothing like a good ole brew to heat up the synapses." "That sounds awful," Daya said. "Nonsense. Make it two, and he'll drink his straight up." The barkeep shook her head and turned to the backside of the bar to mix the drinks. Harry turned around in the swivel stool, placing his arms on the bar for support. "I wonder if they still play the arena league. Daya, you ever get into American football? I hear its starting to make a comeback from ancient times." (Daya) (Daya, from this point, please post on the main thread. that is where we will continue and join with the crew.)
Thank you Mister Wedlerson for opening this thread to allow Commander Daya to post while awaiting our return. If, as suggested, you could continue on the main mission thread 'Coalescence' we will get you aboard before we depart (I promise) ...
Nice thread both of you.
Regards,
Steve.
