Mini Tie in mission
Steve sat in the Delta class shuttle, it had been years since he left the Victory, well it seemed that long to him anyway. He was in a hurry, what he had found out worried him and he didn't worry easy. The quicker he reported this to Starfleet Command the better. Steve looked at his panel readout and saw that he was closing on the starbase. =^= Commander Steve to Starbase Assaillant =^= =^= This is Starbase Assaillant go ahead commander =^= =^= I need to dock straight away, I have an urgent matter to attend to. I am transmitting my security codes now. = ^= The starbase accepted the codes and gave Steve the docking information. Steve exited the ship and was greeted by a young Lieutenant wearing a security uniform. "Greeting sir" "Lieutenant" "Is there anything I can do or you need?" the officer asked. "No thank you, I know what I am doing and where I am going." Steve replied. "Very well sir." Steve walked out of the shuttle bay and headed down the corridor. "Steve!" he heard a voice call out and turned round "Greetings my old friend." Steve answered but kept on walking. "I heard you just arrived here, I must say I am happy to see you, its been a wile." Zoilip replied "That it has" Steve said "But I am here on an urgent matter and must get going, if I have some time before I leave I will give you a shout and we can have a quick drink." "That would be great sir, take care and talk to you soon." Zoilip stopped walking and watched Steve walk off.
Steve stepped out into the main operations centre of the base and headed to the commanding officers office "Commander?" Came the voice from a Lieutenant Commander working at the Ops table. "I need to see the Admiral right away." "Sorry sir, no can do he is very busy at the moment." Came the reply. "I see him sitting there and I need to see him." "Sorry Commander but I have my orders not to let anyone in." said the Lt Commander sounding a little nervous. "Out of my way" and with that Steve pushed his way past the officer and opened the Door to the Admiral's office. "Admiral" The Lt Commander shouted "I told him you were not to be disturbed, shall I call security?" "No that will not be necessary." Magellan replied "Shut the door on you way out." "Aye sir" "Hello Steve, Its good to see you. What can I help you with?" "Sir" Steve replied "I bring you information of a possible threat to the Federation and I need it sent to Command right away." Steve handed the pad to his former CO and watched as Magellan read it.

The PADD was not especially long but the content was explosive. "And your sure this is accurate?" Magellan asked gravely looking up at the end of the last paragraph. "As I can be. It came right out of the submerged personality." "I see. And the Victory, how was she when you left?" "Not bad, they were engaged with the scoutship and a Keldon class crusier." "Keldon." Magellan exclaimed knowing full well a Nebula class vessel was no match for such a warship. "Yes Keldon, But Walkers back on the bridge, and if what this says is right they won't be interested in destroying the ship." "They'll board you mean" "Undoubtedly and that puts the advantage on Walkers side." "Nevertheless I ll redeploy the Artemis and Royal Oak to reinforce them. They won't make it for a few hours, but I think Jeff canhold them that long if not longer." "Aye Sir." "This" He taped the PADD "does need to go to command, could you wait outside a moment while I make the call." "Of course sir." Steve exited out into Ops and began to browse around the room, watching the bustle of activity and the work of the crew. He could see Magellan through the glass go to his terminal and open up a secure link.
A quarter of an hour later Magellan appeared at the door. "Steve" He waved Steve crossed over and re-entered the room. "I really should get vack to the Vic" "That can wait. You were a good First Officer you know." "Thankyou sir" "Well its true, I know you joined Intell but you ever consider going back towards the big chair." "Well it is every officers dream." "Good, What if I said I d found you a place as XO on a ship?" "Thankyou I think, though what ship is it." Magellan smiled wryly, despite most ships appeared superficially the same, some had better reputations than other and everyone had its own character. "Its the Nevada, Her Captains a good man, he served here as my XO awhile, he needs a good FO and I suggested you. It would mean starting immediatly, but as Fleet Commander i can clear that, the question is - Do you want it?" Steve took a moment to think . He had spent nearly his whole active duty on the Victory to be on any other ship would feel strange. But then there was the drive to improve, at one time he had stagnated on the Vic and enlivened his life by becoming a field rated Intell officer working undercover all over the galaxy, then that too had become stolid or rather he missed the stars. "Yes Sir I do. I d like that very much." "Consider it done. I ll square it with Jeff. As of now you are the new FO of the Nevada, obviouly unless Harrias objects, which I doubt." "Excellent sir and Thankyou oncemore." "No. Its nothing, especially after the service you just provided. Your report proves that you are command ability. Perhaps you d like to meet your CO, hes often inone of teh bars - you could try the Fishtank thats where all teh fleeters go but I reckon its more likely he'll be in one of the more questionable establishements down below. Check in the the Nevada they ll tell you. Dismissed" "Aye Sir"

Barely half an hour had passed before a gold channel transmission from Starfleet Command came in to the Admiral office. He decrypted the comms channel and then sat sternly as Admirals Janeway, Montgomery and T'look explained what they wanted. "Very good. I ll get on it straight away. Lin out" Magellan replied "Good hunting Admiral" Janeway replied just before the channel closed.
Magellan tapped his comm badge. "Admiral Lin to Captain Jira and Commander Steve. Report to my Office immediatly"

Steve looked at Jira who was taking in everything that Steve had just said about his past in Starfleet. "Right commander let me get this straight, you..." The captain was interrupted by a beep from his comm badge. =^= Admiral Lin to Captain Jira and Commander Steve. Report to my Office immediately =^= Steve stood up, he had a feeling what this was about, he had told Magellan to transmit the information as soon as he could and looks like his former CO has done just what he had asked. Steve knew how important this information was and knew Starfleet would act on it right away. =^= On our way Sir =^= Captain Jira replied and stood up. "Lets go commander"
Steve and Jira enter the op's centre and headed right for the Admiral's office. I young officer looked up at them "He's expecting you sir's go straight in." They entered Magellan's office and he looked up for his computer. "I see you two have met, take a seat, there is something we need to talk about."

“First off thanks for coming so quickly” “No worries Sir, there a problem?” Harrias asked “You could say that. It’s a result of something Steve found out whilst on the Victory. Let me fill you in. The Victory was seized yesterday by Sokath their first officer. It later turned out that Sokath had been brainwashed with a second personality – that of Zirdek. Zirdek led the Victory into a trap. She at this moment I believe is being boarded by Cardassian commandos. That is not the biggest worry though. I ve despatched the Artemis and Royal Oak to help the Victory” “So what is the biggest problem?” Jira asked “It’s the scans I made” Steve noted, “I discovered the true reason for the possession, it’s a technique used by many intelligence branches. I recognised it immediately and with the help of the Engineer and Medical Officer was able to cure him.” “I see” Jira mused, Magellan stood up and tapped on the large viewscreen. It brought up what looked like a pair of brain scan readings. “This is biometric data taken from Sokath, Steve managed to get a whole load of data on it. It was this section” he pointed to a jagged peak and trough “That Steve recognised, it’s the work of Crell Moset. The Cardassian Exo-biologist created this technique for Cardassians back during the Bajoran Occupation. Whats most worrying is that according to the agreements at the end of the war, all submerged Agents were recalled and the program abandoned. The presence of this means either the Cardassians or at the least a fraction of them have accessed resources Starfleet believed destroyed after the Dominion War. Command is unwilling to assume the cardassians are back to their old ways but are too sceptical of them to look into things themselves well enough. They have asked me to lead a team to Cardassia Prime to investigate. Commander Steves intelligence contacts and knowledge of the subject matter will be vital. Captain Jira, one of your hosts was a pathologist, your skills will be needed to help analyse the biometric data assembled here. I will also be going I ll provide the bureaucratic muscle to get us on to the planet and perhaps even a direct link to their leader – Alon Ghemor.” “That sounds all well and good Admiral” Harrias said “But I am newly joined and still not fully at ease with all my hosts, I don’t have complete access to all the symbionts memories yet.” “Then perhaps we can get you some assistance?” “I know just who” Harrias replied “I ll leave that to you then. We’ll be leaving within the hour. This is a top secret mission. No one needs to know. We’ll meet at Runabout Pad E in half an hour. Come prepared. Dismissed.”

Nodding a goodbye to the Admiral, Harrias turned and left his fellow trill's office. He noticed that Steve didn't follow him, and presumed that he had some further comments to make to the admiral. While normally Jira would be interested in what this was, he knew that time was now of the essence.
He made his way through the starbase. He was still slightly unsure about contacting T'Val about this. Last time he had spoken to her, they had been arguing during the Debruni Negotiations. But, she was vulcan, and she was their best hope of releasing the information held by Mazaria, the past host who had been a pathologist. He sighed, hoping that the vulcan healer would be sympathetic, though that of course was an emotion.
Without realising it, he was in the infirmary, and a doctor was impatiently asking him what he wanted. Jira looked around before asking,
"Where is Healer T'Val?"
"She's off-duty. In her quarters I expect. Now I have work to do." The doctor walked off muttering something about timewasters. Harrias bit his tongue, knowing that he didn't have time to start an argument, and made his way to the healer's quarters.
When he arrived, he tapped the door chime lightly, and heard the familiar sound ring out inside the room. A few seconds later, T'Val accepted the call, thus unlocking the door. He stepped inside.
"Healer, I have need of your skills. I need to try and access the memories of one of my former hosts, and I was hoping that you would help me accomplish this. However, time is short, and you would need to come with us on the runabout, and help me as we go. Your skills as a healer would also be of great help to us."

T'Val listened to the Trill captain patiently, while taking care of D'Beren. "Give me a moment to contact the nanny and I shall come with you."
She walked away, inviting Harrias to sit down for a moment, then returned a moment later. "The nanny will be here shortly." She motioned to the Bronze firelizard. "You will be staying with D'Beren," she commanded him, "make sure that he remains unharmed." A few seconds later, the nanny arrived and T'Val was ready to go.
"Where do we go?" she asked Harrias as she walked with him, cradling a bright green hatchling firelizard in her arms. "I am taking her, she needs to be with me, and she can be quite useful. She is small and considerably more agile than Sev and Nut." She paused. "As for your need of my skill, what is it that you wish me to do?"

As they walked towards the shuttlebay, Harrias pondered his answer for a few seconds.
"Indeed, I have seen first hand how useful these firelizards can be. It must be a great honour to carry one." He avoided speaking directly about what it was he wanted her for, partly because he didn't want anyone on the station to get an inckling of what they were doing, and partly because he wasn't quite ready to.
She looked at him, her gaze seemed to look right into his soul. Still, he tried not to shy away from it, but found the intensity too much in the end, and he dropped his eyes. She raised an eyebrow,
"It is indeed an honour. You have still not told me why you require my skills."
"I have told you enough already. I am afraid you will have to wait to find out more. I do not have the relevant clearance to tell you anything further." It was a small lie, he did he the clearance, but he would prefer to check with Admiral Magellan what she should know anyway, so it was enough of the truth to satisfy his own sense of honour.
They arrived in the shuttlebay, and after looking around, Harrias came to the realisation that they must have arrived here before Magellan and Steve. He selected one of the runabouts, and tapped the relevant sequence in to open the door and allow them in.
"We shouldn't be away for too long. However, we will have to keep radio silence during the mission. If you wish to contact your husband and inform him of your absence, this will be your last chance." The trill told T'Val, before stepping into the runabout, and starting up the pre-launch sequence. While it was running, he sat in the pilot's seat, waiting for the ex-Victory command team.

Magellan put the last of his affairs in order and double checked he'd got everything covered. He exited his office and went and fetched Dinas, the infant Firelizard was too young to leave behind and he hoped that this mission wouldnt be too hostile to take him with them. He returned to Operations the small bronze curled about his neck. "Zoilip. You have Fleet Control. F'Rras you have base control. Keep everything status quo. I doubt we'll be gone longer than a week." "Aye Sir. Good luck" Magellan left Ops and made a quick detour to the flight deck. There he saw Zhukarak with some of the new pilots. "Tomlinson?" he asked Zhukarak nodded towards the Flight CO office. "Thanks" "Hey Simon." Magellan greeted " I just wanted you to know I m going to be off base for a week. I ve left F'Rass in command - he is the ranking officer... but..." "But you want me to keep an eye on him" Tomlinson replied with a grin. "Something like that - you know how stressed he gets. And watch out for Jibb I think hes still digging on the Sonev/Simeth link, make sure he doesnt get out of his depth oh and get this fighter wing up to scratch. I ll see you in a few days."
Having done all he needed Magellan wound his way to the Runabout dock. Harrias was already there and with him was T'Val. "Healer" He greeted formally "So this is your ideal person" he said to Harrias "You dont approve" He asked "Oh no not at all. In fact I think its an excellent idea. I guess you havent briefed her?" "No I left that for you." "Okay come on board then T'Val and I ll fill you in"

Steve didn't have anything to do before leaving, he didn't have anything on the Starbase as he needed to sort out all of his belongings being moved from the Vic, well that's if they made it out of this current situation. Steve walked into the shuttlebay and looked around. *Hope they have not gone without me* he thought to himself. There was a runabout over in the corner that was powered up with the main hatch open. Steve walked over to it and had a look in. "Permission to come aboard" Steve said with a grin on his face "Always Steve" Magellan said with a little smile Steve could see that the Admiral was in the middle of talking to a Vulcan female. Steve took a seat and listen.

T'Val cast an annoyed glance in the directions of both Harrias and Magellan. "I prefer to be referred to as 'her' or 'she' if you do not mind," she told both men, "I am hardly an 'it'." Yet she sat down and waited patiently for Magellan and Harrias to fill her in on whatever her purpose was of being here.
She also had no intention of contacting Tedak, as he had his own private and secret mission. For once, she thought she deserved equal chances at having fun, as Tedak often called it. In her arms, the little bright green firelizard stretched and gave a little squawk in greeting when she noticed Magellan's bronze.
"Captain Jira informed me that he has need of my medical skills," T'Val pointed out, when both men remained silent, as if wondering what exactly they should tell her, "if this is a medical problem I am bound by my patient-doctor oath of confidentiality. If we are to be in danger, I have a right to know."

“I understand T’Val but you must understand the need for security and this is of international security. I will fill you in, in fact you can review all facts. Once we are in flight.” “I suppose that will have to do.” “I m sorry but I will have to. This is essentially a covert op. I would have preferred a Starfleet specialist but we don’t have one – you’re the best we have. And don’t get me wrong your not second choice, I know you are more than competent.” “Thankyou. I think” T Val replied. “Good. Okay Steve. Take the conn. Harrias you take Nav.” “Aye Sir” “Take us out.” The Runabout undocked and after checking with F’Rrass departed Assailant airspace went to warp. “Cardassia Prime it is” Steve stated as he began to lay in a course. “Hold that Commander” “Not there?” Harrias asked puzzled. “Not first I suggest a detour. Lay in a course for the Shipyard at Lya Station Alpha” “Lya, why Lya that’s well out of our way.” “It is but if theres a rogue element of Cardassians or even their own govenmnt behind the attack on the Victory I don’t think crossing Cardassian space in a Runabout is best.” “So?” Steve prompted “So I m picking up a trick from your book Steve. Last year as a gift Qarek gave me an old Hideki class vessel, its berthed at this moment at Lya. I though it maybe safer to travel in sheeps clothing so to speak.” “Ah your learning sir.” “I try. I m gonna rest I suggest you lot do the same, at the very least make sure T vals up to speed, let the computer handle most of the journey. One man on watch at all times 3 hour rotation.” “Aye sir, oh and sir. Sweet dreams.” “Hmmph”

As Admiral Magellan went of to get some rest, Harrias rolled his eyes at his back. He turned to Steve.
"Right, I'll have first watch, I need to fill T'Val in, and there is no point in you sitting here on watch when I'm doing that."
Steve looked like he was going to protest, but obviously thought better of it, and instead went into the aft section of the shuttle, leaving the federation captain and the vulcan alone. Harrias checked that the autopilot was functioning properly, and then tapped in his command code to the ship's library. Once it had been accepted, he brought a few files to the front, one's that he would have to show T'Val.
"Okay, as the Admiral stated earlier, this is highly classified, and you are not to breath a word of it to anyone else at all. Especially not your husband. Before the completion, we will have to ask you to sign a non-disclosure form, but now the briefing, or what you need to know of it anyway." He paused, wondering where exactly to start.
"Mind control. It is something that you may know a little about, but it is not something that many people know a lot about. However, some time ago, Starfleet Intelligence finally mastered it, giving them the ability to control the minds of most major races in the alpha and beta quadrants. There are a few exceptions, the Ferengi being one of them. Anyway, this was soon banned by the federation, although you won't find that in any legislation, its that secret. We knew that none of the other major races in our two quadrants had developed this, well, we thought that they hadn't.
However, it appears we were wrong. The cardassians, or at least a small band of cardassians do have access to this technology. In fact, they have used it on a first officer within starfleet. We, quite simply, are going to find them, and deal with the problem. They are not acting with the backing of the cardassian government, at least not that we know."

Steve found his bunk in the back and sat down. It was an interesting plan that Magellan had put together but he trusted his friend and knew that if anyone could pull it off it would be him. "Computer, set wake up call alarm call for 3 hours, mark." Steve put his head down onto the pillow and shut his eyes waiting for his wake up call.

T'Val read the file carefully, then looked up at Harrias. "There are Vulcans able to perform mind control," she said, raising an eyebrow at him, "Ambassador Spock is adept at it, and I am able to do it too, to some extend. There are even a small number of Romulans trained in this as well, but those numbers are extremely small but not indismissable."
In her lap, Yade chirped. She looked down at her, then sent her aft, to their quarters. "Yet I still do not understand my presence here on this mission. Am I to analyse people who can perform this? Am I to devise a way to track them down? Are there pathogens involved in creating the ability to mind control and if so, are these pathogens a danger to the Federation?"
<short I know....all I could come up with right now>

Harrias was starting to grow frustrated. For one thing, he had certainly not had enough sleep recently, and for another, the vulcan in front on him was starting to seem like she had the brain capacity of a klingon targ.
"As I have already stated Healer, one of the main reasons for your presence here is my belief that you can help me unlock some secrets of my own mind. In addition to this your biological skills will also be an asset should any of us get hurt, or indeed we have to deal with the mind control directly. However, we are not planning on either of the latter."
He was going to continue, but the computer bleeped at him. He looked at it in surprise. 'That was soon.' He looked down at the chronometer, and saw that indeed, two hours had passed, and they had now arrived at the small shipyard where they would retrieve the Hideki class vessel they were to take into cardassian space.
He was going to tap his commbadge, but then decided to just go wake the pair of officers by hand. Or voice anyway.
A short time later, all four of them were sitting in the Hideki class, a vessel named Yukara. This time, Harrias was straight into bed, while Steve took his shift, although he noticed that neither Magellan nor T'Val had yet followed him into the sleeping quarters.

T'Val sat thinking for a long time. "I will do what I can captain," she finally said, her voice soft, "but I cannot promise you I will be able to help you personally. I will certainly try my best. I have never mindmelded with a Trill before, but if that should prove necessary to assist you, I am willing to try."
She remained behind with Magellan, as Harrias finally went to rest. "He is troubled by something," she said softly, "what can you tell me about Captain Jira that I should know in order to help him?"
"You should understand Harrias has only just been joined, as such hes... not as comfortable as I am with his symbiont" Magellan began to reply realising the irony in that statement. He and Lin had never had the greatest relationship, more of a grudging acceptance than a partnership. " As a result Harrias has not yet learned to fully connnect with all his previous hosts, There is a ceremony the Zhiantara that allows the personalitys to be made manfest in the hosts friends however I believe that Jira and in fact Harrias are not well joined enough to survive it, without significant mental trauma, You however have the ability to bring harmony to his soul and help him and Jira work together, to unlock the memories we need." "
After Magellan's explanation, she too went to her sleeping quarters. Her green firelizard squawked upon her entrance, then hummed as she was scooped up and rubbed in with soothing oil. The little hatchling was growing fast, and her hide was cracking. The oil helped soothe the itching caused by shedding of the old hide.

Lya Station Alpha was a bustling station and Magellan knew the CO, it helped speed up the transfer and pretty soon they were aboard Magellans Hideki craft. The ship had been named The Osprey, but for this undercover part of the mission had been renamed the Ratal.
The vessel pulled away and leapt to warp. The first destination was the Federation Checkpoint in the new DMZ, from there they would follow a circular route to Cardassia Prime. Magellan was sat at the main console putting through a call. "Legate Ghemor, Its good to see you again." "Indeed Admiral, The Conference on Setlik was it?" "I believe so." "What can I do for you?" "I cant say over sub space but teh Fedeartion envoy should be delivering a diplomatic pouch any time now. It will explain everything. Suffice to say I m coming to speak with you on a very grave matter." "I see. I will have my assitant Garak to meet your shuttle when you arrive" "Thank you. We'll see you soon." Magellan keyed off the comms and leaned back. That was the easy bit. Now they had to cross Cardassian space where there maybe hostile forces at work, and if Magellan was wrong and the Cardassian Government were behind the plot then they had just alerted them, or rather he had. Still no use worying about something that hadnt happened yet. Fingers crossed they would have a safe journey and be on Cardassia prime in a matter of days.

--- A few days later --- Sitting in the office of Legate Ghemor, Admiral Magellan was taking the fore once more. Harrias felt kind of sorry for his fellow trill. He was the ranking officer, and he was far more a diplomat than anyone else there. But the mission was not really his, it was Steve's. Steve would get official recognition through the intelligence branch. The best that Magellan, and indeed Harrias and T'Val would get would be very unofficial thank you's later on. Of course, none of them were here for the plaudits, but it was always annoying. "Legate, I must protest!" "Admiral. I understand that the information that you come to us with is mutually beneficial. However, you crossed our borders unannounced, not contacting me until you were in our space. You proceeded thourhg our space in one of our own vessels that was stolen from us over a year ago. Now you bring information and expect us to research it, and then give it back to you having removed all trace from our databases." "Yes Legate, you see..." "No, you see. We may not be at war any more, but our races are certainly not allied. We do not want to have anything to do with the federation, but due to our circumstances, we have no choice. To ask us for help at any other time would be stupid, but after the way you got here, and the things you ask for. Do you think we are fools? We are not. You seem the fool to me. If this is Obsidian Order stuff, very soon, you will be dead, I will be dead, and anyone else that might know about this will be dead. So we better hope that it hasn't got anything to do with them." He was shouting by the time he finished. Magellan took a deep breath, and then spoke calmly. "I know Legate. It is a risk we had to take. We believe however that it is a faction, a faction that may not like your government, and likes it's pact with us even less than you do. I think it is in the best interest of your government as well as mine that this threat is removed." Harrias looked at him again. This was not the Admiral Magellan Lin that he knew speaking, this was another one, the commanding officer that was so highly decorated for his actions, the Admiral who had saved the federation on a few occasions. "Now, Legate. I ask you once more. Can you run this through your databases and see if there are any matches at all that might tell us who did it?" The cardassian sat down heavily in the seat behind his desk. He picked up a PADD in his hands, and toyed with it for a while. He placed it back on the table again, and looked up, straight into the eyes of the trill admiral. "We already have. We got a copy of it when you entered. The scanner you had to go through also copies any electronic data. We found a match." He picked up the PADD again, and handed it to Admiral Lin. "This is the only copy. Don't lose it."

"I will not, and thankyou Alon the Federation, nor I will forget you giving us the chance. We will get to the bottom of this" "Trust that you do. Mr Garak is on hand if you need him. Whilst he is now my respectable Minister of Security I think he may be of us to you." "Thankyou. We'll consult your findings first and go from there."
The three starfleeters and T Val left the Legate chamber. They retraced their steps to a suite of quarters that had been assigned them. They passed along a broad balcony that gave a magnificent view of the city. "I always liked the sky here" Magellan noted, pointing to the beautiful myriad of pinks and oranges that spread across the sky before them. "Its a wonder how with such beauty before them every day the Cardassians left their pursuit of culture and went to war." "You have been to Cardassia before?" T Val asked "Oh yes" Magellan replied, "I was stationed there very briefly. Before I joined Section 47 I had been in Starfleet before, it was before I was even joined. I spent 4 months helping out the relief effort after the war. I programmed industrial replicators for most of my time. I saw much hardship in that time, but by the look of things it improving." "Starfleet still assists" "Oh yes. We still have advisors and charity support workers throughout the Union, the Dominion did a lot of damage in a very short time" They arrived back at their quarters. "Okay thats me done" Magellan grinned, "The next bits up to you Steve, Have a look at this and find out whats next" he tossed the PADD over. "And we better try a mind meld maybe" T Val suggested to Jira "It may help to bring your disparate parts together"

"That it would," T'Val agreed, "but I would also suggest the ritual where your friends impersonate past hosts." She pondered for a moment. "I know the ritual but for some reason I cannot remember the name." She looked Harrias over. "Whenever you feel you are ready, captain," she added, and on her arm, the green firelizard chirped.
The little green had grown a lot since her hatching, and still had a ferocious appetite. Contrary to stories T'Val had heard about greens, Yade was far from stupid; in fact she was quite bright...for a green. She was quick at understanding if T'Val wanted her to be quiet, or wanted her to fetch something, or stay somewhere. She was far more obedient than Tedak's brown Nut and bronze Sev.
T'Val had noted that Magellan's bronze had also grown quite a bit, and when he wasn't meeting with officials, the two seemed inseparable. T'Val was pleased to note that the admiral took a liking to his new lifelong companion, for indeed firelizards were compantions for life. If the person they were bonded to died, so did the firelizard.
She looked up and realized Harrias was gazing at her. "Just lost in thought for a moment captain. Please contact me when you are ready to attempt the mindmeld. I will be in my quarters."

Magellan tried to keep out of the way of everyone for awhile, Steve needed time to analyse the data and Jira and T val needed quiet for their work. He tucked himself away in his room with Dinas. Apparently now was the time to strengthen the bond. Firelizard formed some sort of telepathic link with their masters. Magellan knew of no trill to have a lizard and so was unsure how it would work. He let Dinas do the work, but felt no connection at all. Odd he thought. Perhaps if he meditated awhile. In doing so he conected with Lin. Meditation always helped the bond between them. Unlike most trill, lin and magellan were not blended. They... co-operated, something that not even the Symbiosis commission knew. In meditation he and Lin came as close as they were able to being fully joined, almost all the dissociation was gone. Today was different, things felt odd. Quickly he realised what it was, Dinas had bonded, but not to the Magellan part but teh Lin part, and there was something more, disturbing and unfamiliar... no they were familiar just not... not remembered memories. magellan had begun to explore further but was interrupted by Steve bursting in. "Sir I think you need to see this." "What is it Steve?" "Ive got a match. Our data, the victory data and the stuff Ghemor had. It all links to a single scientific source Dr Jaket Kalor. He worked with Crell Moset during the occupation of Bajor, a well reknowed Cardassian Neuroscientist. He worked breifly for the Obsidian Order but retired 6 years ago. Less than 6 months ago he vanished. Local authorities suspected abduction, but a Gul came forward to report that Kalor had come to live with him and his family on Eltok II." "So?" "That Gul was Gul Dalor. The commander of the Keldon class ship that attacked the Victory." "Sounds like a lead. Tell Jira and get the engines warmed up. I ll contact Alon."
