Now sitting in the centre seat of the USS Nevada, Harrias was looking around the bridge of the large Sovereign class vessel. He hadn't served upon one before, and he had almost got lost on his way to the bridge. Luckily this ship, as with the Galaxy class before it, had an excellent internal navigation system, which he managed to discreetly use to get him to the bridge. It wouldn't have looked good for the captain to get lost on the first day.
Now that he was on the bridge though, he reflected it would hardly have mattered anyway. None of the rest of the crew had reported in yet, and the bridge wasn't even manned as they were in Starbase. On that note, he stepped into his Ready Room. It hadn't been personalised yet, and was completely bare of decoration. He reached into his bag, and pulled out a book. It was an antique in the age of computers, but it was still in immaculate condition, and he flicked through a few pages until he got to the part he had been looking for. "Thus we play the fools with time; and the spirits of the wise sit in the clouds and mock us" He considered this for a couple of seconds, and then threw it from his mind. It had always had a deep meaning for him before, time. But now that he had the Jira symbiont, time seemed much less important. He shrugged it off. He placed the Complete Works of Shakespeare on the corner of his desk and then sat down before it.
He was happy that he had managed to wangle Robert Agalacticae onto the ship as his first officer, and he wondered how the human would fare in the position. He had faith in him, the ex-helmsman had shown great command skills in the past and now that he was in a position that gave him more responsibilty, Harrias was sure he would rise to it.
The computer on the desk in front of him bleeped a few times. Harrias was amazed at how much further technology had come, even since he had last sat in his own ready room. The computer was currently invisible, hidden by a holographic image of a table-top, meaning that anybody he had in the room with him wouldn't even know it was there. He pressed the relevant part of the holographic image twice and then smiled as the computer flipped up, the screen automatically turning on.
Looking at the screen, he saw that Commanders Sharpe, McDuff and Agalacticae had all reported in within minutes of each other. He tapped his commbadge.
