Goodbyes and new beginnings

I his quarters McDuff was quietly looking at the viewscreen on his desk. There was no picture. Thinking over the message he had just received John hung back in his chair, just looking into the black surface. It hadn't been so much of a message as it had been a cry for help. After looking at the chronometer next to his door, realizing he had been sitting there for more than two hours, he stood up and walked to his replicator.
"Computer, five type 2D-3 standard issue travel containers"
After he had stacked the products next to the replicator he opened the last one and started packing his belongings.
As captain Jira entered shuttlebay 2 he looked around, finding Valiant in it's familiar corner. A rather less familiar Danube torpedo pod was sitting on top of it, flattened out and covered with the dark grey anti-sensor coating like the rest of the small craft. A pushcart with four quantum torpedo's was sitting next to the small fightershuttle. Another, smaller, pushcart was next to it, atop it cases with a modified phaser rifle, power packs and grenades. From inside came the sound of a phaser welder.
"Commander!", Jira called over the noise, without a response. "John!!", louder now.
McDuff came out of the open side hatch, dressed in a simple jumpsuit. "Captain", he simply responded to the calling.
"You going fishing? You have the little girl packing quite a punch."
- "Fishing, well that's a name for it I didn't think of."
"What's this?", the captain asked holding up a padd.
- "That's why we invented subject lines in messages," came the smug reply.
"Yes, well I read it, three times. Why John? What's so important to leave Starfleet?"
- "I can't tell you much, that would unneccesarily complicate the situation. Let's just say an old friend is in trouble, and I'm going to help him out."
"Can't you take an extended leave? Help your friend and come back?"
- "Good chance of me not coming back captain, this IS the only way"
The two officers, reasonably good friends after their serving together on the Nevada, shared something of a sincere look
"Well you're not getting away that easily, I'll grant you your launch at 15.00, but I'm expecting you in the officers mess at 14.30."
- "Aye sir, but keep it simple will you. My mind isn't set to anything grand at the moment."
During the modest resignation ceremony hands were shook and goodbyes said. After a mere 15 minutes John, dressed in a black jumpsuit with a non-starfleet issue phaser at his side, left for the shuttlebay. At 15.00 hours Nevada's shuttlebay doors opened, allowing Valiant to shoot out at high impulse.
=^=
"Good luck commander, from all of us."
- "Thanks, see you out there"
=^=
Mind set to zero. John thought while engaging his warp core...
And with the channel closing Valiant disappeared from sensors, which simply registered something breaking the warp barrier behind them.

As you'll have figured this was my last post for s47. Lately I haven't found the time or drive to keep up a decent level of posting which is only going to get worse. I hereby offer my resignation to Section 47.
It's been a good deal of fun simming and I'm sorry to leave S47 and the Nevada in particular. I'll keep John McDuff in the back of my mind, who knows what'll happen to him .
See y'all, out there
