No problem - I haven't really progressed the engineering side of the story much... kind of leaving it open for yourself if you wish.
Christmas time is always a busy time, and I think I'm not really counting this week in post-count, as a lot of last minute things come up for everyone. Plus, Mr. McLean, you are a guest character. You have no obligation to post here - but whatever you do post is appreciated.
And, Jon Park, thanks for the helping hand with the marines.
Thanks everyone.

This time of the year is a goofy time due to holidays. Most people post from school, and since college/university is in recess, they are not in their normal routine.
I would like to point out, though, that there has been more posting in the last month than previous months...
I do agree though, and to reiterate Lucy's point-- if you find you are not going to be posting, please leave a Leave of Absence. It has more to do with common courtesy to others so we can move the story along without you than it has to do with just 'following the rules'. We all depend on each other to make our ship fun.
And keep in mind - this is supposed to be fun for everyone. I'm rather pleased with the way things have been progressing in the last couple of months. I think we are on our way to becoming a reliable ship.

One of the outcomes of this mission needs to be that Alex Dixon is recovered from the Brain, safe and sound. It would be rude to James (Alex's player) for us to kill off his character without his consent, in case he ever decides to come back to s47.

Aye, we've discussed that over PM. It's probably a good idea to tell everyone else that, though. Hehe.
And welcome back!

Just thought I would let you all know how you did on inspections back in May. The results can be found here: section47.proboards18.com/index.cgi?board=disc&action=display&thread=1200104785&page=1#1200368468
Don't read too deeply into how we are ranked. Looking back at your mission during that time frame, longer and well-thought-out posts prevailed. The way the inspection scoring works, it combines quality and quantity of posts. Since the quantity was not there (since single posts were usually pages long instead of broken up into smaller posts) the Nevada score is a lot lower than you all deserve. In that sense, I would be proud of your score.
I would like to note, though, that I am not a terribly huge fan of short posts. With that being said, I think a balance can be made between quantity and quality within posts that allow one to post frequently, with adequate content.
Congrats to everyone who was aboard the Nevada in May who posted in the time frame... I believe that's just Lucy and Connor. Great job you two!
The August inspections should be out any time now. I'll post a link here when I see they are up.
Comments are always welcomed and encouraged.

Did anyone else have problems signing onto the boards in the last 24 hours? I couldn't from home, work, or my phone. Just curious.

A couple of things:
Oh, my! I have been here since last May... how time flies!
What is the fleet wide inspection all about? We're just now getting August 2007 results. If it's counting the posts, etc. on each ship, why is it so far behind?
Has Stephens put in an LOA request and I missed it? I do know he's extremely busy in RL.
I'll try to post today but it might be in the morning. I'm running a training class on another group and they're prolific writers.
"I certainly do like simming!" Lucy murmurred while walking to the replicator.

A couple of things: Oh, my! I have been here since last May... how time flies! Indeed it does! I can't believe I've been here a year and half already myself. I remember when you were an itty bitty Cadet. *eye starts to twinkle*
What is the fleet wide inspection all about? We're just now getting August 2007 results. If it's counting the posts, etc. on each ship, why is it so far behind? First off, the May 2007 inspections had a fast turnaround. I didn't realize that until today, when I was poking around the Inspections Board to get information to write here. You can see that Admiral Drew announced the scores [here] last summer. As you say, though, August inspection results have not been so timely.
I'll break down the process, and it's timing, the best I can. Hopefully it gives a better appreciation for the delay:
- It takes a couple of weeks to get together personnel to do the inspections (typically 3 or 4 recruited inspectors), and give them information on how to do it if they are new. The inspector general (currently Brigadier Zhukarak Hrisvalar) has to then assign each inspector a set of ships. The ships cannot be ships any of their characters are on, and not ships they are in a direct line of command. That gets tricky. So, after about 3 weeks or so, that is all settled.
Then the tallying. This should be easy, but there are questions. As I said in a previous OOC, a ship is scored mainly on quantity AND quality. There are other areas that get points. For instance, bonus points are obtained for Captain's and their Executive officers talking regularly about the ship, it's mission, it's crew, etc... That part of the inspection can only occur by inspectors talking to the Captains of the ships they are inspecting. That takes a couple of weeks to get a complete set of satisfactory answers.
After that it's a simple plug-and-chug, as I like to call it, formula for figuring out the score. They are all tabulated, and sent to the Inspector General.
The Inspector General had been on an emergency leave back in November, and on leaves off and on afterward for real life issues. That's what is causing the current delay.
So - a 'fast inspection' takes somewhere between 6-8 weeks to complete after the month being inspected. That's what it looks like looking at past tabulations. That's not inconsistent with the numbers I threw out above. This time is a special case, though, which is why the August inspections haven't been released.
There is more than you've ever wanted to know about inspections... but good question! I am glad people are asking questions. Until the last inspection, I didn't know how the process worked either - I just magically saw numbers appear.
Has Stephens put in an LOA request and I missed it? I do know he's extremely busy in RL. No he has not. I have contacted him via PM, email, and YIM last week. I gave everyone 2 weeks of not noticing their departures around Christmas as my personal gift lol. So, instead of 3 weeks MIA, there was 5. I'm hoping to get ahold of him still in a reasonable amount of time.
I'll try to post today but it might be in the morning. I'm running a training class on another group and they're prolific writers. I'm looking forward to it, We probably have 2 weeks left in the mission. Start thinking of stuff (everyone!) for next mission.
" I certainly do like simming!" Lucy murmured while walking to the replicator. "I am certainly glad to hear you say that!" Nack murmured back... but that was more than a couple of things

I'm hoping to close out this mission on 31-Jan and am trying to decide when to start the next mission.
One possibility is to align the start of our new mission with the end of Academy graduation to see if we get a new crew member. The Hanson should be returning soon and *crosses fingers* we hopefully will get a Cadet or two due to our low crew numbers. We can do a shoreleave until we find out one way or the other... Then, if we get a new member, we can start the mission from the beginning with them.
Is anyone not in favor of that idea? Comments and suggestions are welcomed and encouraged. This is your ship too.
Also, send me ideas for the next mission. Lucy.. Jon.. I know both of you are overflowing with them.

A shore leave maybe a good idea, But maybe a visit to the academy starbace till we get our new cadet then maybe a ship refit how long has our ship been out of spacedock.

I don't mind considering shoreleave. Would you want to wait for this round of Cadets to see if we get any? Or have a set amount of time, like 3 or 4 weeks?
As for your other two ideas, they are both good ideas. The only problem is that we would have to differentiate ourselves from incoming Cadets, as there is a particular code of conduct for the Starbase that instructors have to adhere to that we haven't been submitted to. That would be too difficult, and would probably usurp order from the instructors on the Starbase.
Also, I know the that Nevada A only just blew up last April or so... does anyone know for sure? That would mean we probably aren't due for a refit for at least another year or two.
So, I doubt either of them will be working.
Since we are low on staff, how about we visit a location dealing illegally in medical supplies and organs and whatnot? I think that about covers everyone's expertise... as long as there's a chase scene for T'Brel. Heck, since we have no marines, maybe he can fly a fighter, eh? That reminds me, I need to ask Starfleet to give us two more when the mission is over!
Someone fill in the holes... or come up with a new idea! The current mission has just over a week left.

Dealing in illegal organs.... like ST:VOY and The Phage? Where they took Neelix's lungs? Leaving dead guys all over the place?
Sounds good to me. We could con someone on the Nevada to put on one of the red shirts and lose his liver. ;D
I don't care for the idea of shoreleave. Usually one or two people don't post until the new mission starts. But we could take a couple of days (1 week RL) while heading to whatever sector we're going and have a "shoreleave" type of thing on the ship. The ship is big enough.

Aye, similar, but I was thinking more along the lines of investigating the looting of a medical space station, rather than coming across a race of individuals that harvest organs for themselves.
Nack is a Doctor by training - and the Nevada is the type of ship that goes into hostile territory, which is what Akira class ships were made for. We also have 28 fighters onboard... and Nack is Ferengi, he knows the black market like the folds of his ear lobes... so I think it makes our ship the prime ship to go after dangerous thieves of medical supplies and/or organs. Back when I was on the USS Victory we found an underground cave system where thieves were stealing medical supplies and organs.... perhaps we can play off of that story?
Of course, the mission can be molded and changed as we go along... and I'm not 100% sold on my own ideas... so please, give some more ideas. PM me if you wish.
We are down to 5 crew members now for the remainder of this mission, 6 if you count our guest character McLean. It should be easy to come up with someone that everyone can enjoy.
