After the XO cut comms Daniel stood in shock, ‘this will complicate things, I must get him in my office for a evaluation once this is all over’ Daniel looked around to see what was best, Crystal had left and David looked like he would bite the head of the first person in front of him. Daniel turned and left the office to give the Captain some room, he has been doing everything right so Dan was not going to be hovering over him. Spotting Crystal behind her station he decided that the risk of not giving science and engineering the information he had gained whether or not it was anything useful was for them to decide not him.
"When I saw the Nekori in sickbay he threw a lot of images into my head. There's one or two that I think might have useful information for you about their capabilities." Daniel watched as a small amount of shock filled her eyes, which was understandable, as she offered to look over the information after he had drawn it they made their way down to the science lab. As Dan worked though the images to hold the one he wanted and then moved as much as he could onto the screen in front of him before the image faded.
"Um, Sir. If the Nekori pushed images into your head that means he's probably telepathic doesn't it. “Dan nodded "I don't know much about telepathy but is it possible he messed with anyone else's head while they were with him?" Daniel was happy to see she questioned things, ‘she will be a great scientist one day’ Daniel choose to keep it simple “it is very likely, especially Major Wong and Captain Tan as they both held anger near by him and their minds would have been easy pickings”
Daniel continued to push the image onto the screen and rejected the drink that Crystal offered, Daniel just hoped that the information he had gained would be useful. After several minutes Daniel finally handed Crystal the Padd and hoped “I am sorry it is in their language but it is hard to hold the image for long so I copied directly, to what I could tell from the memory the consol was in their ships main engineering” Daniel watched as Crystal translated the language and her eyes lit up.

With no visuals, all David could do was follow the reports coming back from the slowly rotating Nekori vessel ...
Major Wong and his teams were systematically clearing room after room. They would set up pattern enhancers and transport everyone they found directly back to the Olympia .. Up to now it seemed to be going well. There was twenty seven hostages and even less Nekori when the Vander informed Tan that the Nekori Captain wished to speak to him ...
"Open a channel." Tan ordered ..
=^= Nekori Commander =^= David said, slightly puzzled, and expecting the long overdue threat ..
=^= Captain .. We wish to cease hostilities .. Our life support was damaged by your people .. We are unable to repair it =^=
David looked over to Commander Halthor, who scanned the ship again. He confirmed what the Nekori was saying, silently mouthing 'twenty minutes' ...
"How far to the nearest planet ?"
"Two hours." the duty Helm Officer replied.
"Lay in a course .. But hold on it for now."
"Aye."
=^= Nekori Captain .. Order your crew to drop all weapons .. If you do so and allow the hostages to be taken off your ship .. I will beam you over here =^=
There was a long silence .. Then Wong spoke ...
=^= Captain .. The Nekori have surrendered .. We have access to all our people and they are being beamed into Sick-bay and Cargo-bay two now Sir =^=
Tan tapped his Comms badge and spoke quietly to the transporter chief .. When he was satisfied the chief fully understood him, he closed the Comm, returning to Wong ..
=^= Life support can't be fixed over there Major .. Tell the Nekori to gather in one area and once we have you and your teams back .. Will will take them off =^=
=^= What !! .. You are going to sav ....... =^=
=^= DO as i say Mister Wong .. NOW ! =^= David interrupted.
=^= Sir =^= Wong replied as if through gritted teeth, Tan could have cared less, but he doubted it.
"I'll be in the transporter room .. Once we have everyone .. Lock a tractor beam on that ship and head for that planet." Tan said, entering the turbo-lift .. He arrived in the transporter room as the penultimate team of Marines were beaming in. He nodded to the two security officers to stand by .. Seconds later, Major Wong and his Second in Command, Martinez, appeared on the pad. The security officers immediately raised their weapons, training them on the Major, who frankly wasn't surprised ..
"Drop all your weapons Major." one said. Holding up a hand to silence Martinez, Wong complied ..
"Major Wong ..." David began, "For gross insubordination and disobeying 'several' direct orders during a time of crisis .. You are relieved of duty .. You will be placed under arrest until an inquiry can be convened or Command has been returned to Captain Smith .. You will be held in the Brig under Star fleet personnel supervision .. Take him away !" David finished, and the two sec' officers moved either side of the Major but gave him the dignity of not cuffing him for his walk to the Brig, instead, each nuzzled their phaser into Wong's side as they headed for the door ..
"Wait." Tan said ..
"Computer .. Suspend all access codes and clearances for Major Tiberian Wong .. To be restored on my voice command only .. Clearance Tan-Alpha-Two-Two-Cappa-Delta."
"Confirmed." replied the computer matter of factly.
Tan waved for them to leave, and with one look round the room, he headed back to the Bridge ..
~~~~~~~~~~
As the Olympia neared the planet, David ordered their ship be released fro the tractor beam. It would settle into a decaying orbit, not that it mattered ..
"Standard orbit Helm." David said, and moments later the orbit was confirmed, the Nekori ship was some three thousand meters astern of them, but falling toward the surface all the time ..
Tan tapped his Comms badge ...
=^= Transporter Chief .. Are we ready ? =^=
=^= I can resume whenever you are Sir .. The Nekori are still in the pattern buffers .. Zero degradation of their pattern as yet =^=
=^= Very well .. Commence transport =^=
Moments later, all the Nekori were on the surface .. They had no weapons, no food, no communications equipment .. Effectively, they were stranded ...
"Weapons ..." Tan said, looking at Steven Smith, "Lock photon torpedoes onto the Nekori vessel .. When the ship is directly above the Nekori on the surface .. Fire ..." David ordered, waiting to see if the Captain would intervene ..
The Bridge was totally silent as the seconds passed .. Halthor was waiting for the very last instant to fire, but then the time came and a volley of torpedo's lanced across the void between the two ships, and the Nekori vessel's warp core exploded ..
On the surface ... If the Captain of the Nekori vessel was confused as to why there were planet-side, rather than in a Federation Starships' Brig, it soon became clear ....
As the last of the explosion dissipated, Tan looked again at the still silent Steven Smith ... He looked as if he had something to say, but was keeping it for a more private occasion.
"Helm .. Plot a course away from here and toward Starbase Bellicose." Tan said after a few moments' silence.
"Aye Sir .. Course plotted."
"Then lets go ..." David ordered ..........
Crystal's first few words of translation were enough to tell her that this was latinum dust. She thanked the Counselor profusely and then set to work. The information Lt. Biers had provided was truly amazing: frequencies, phases and energies, everything Crystal needed to make modifications to the shields for protection or even pulse the phasers to create an early detonation. If the Olympia was attacked she was going to be well protected.
Crystal was still working feverishly when Ensign Peters from Engineering arrived to tell her that the stand off was over, the hostages including Dr Mallen were safe and that the XO had been arrested. Crystal was relieved by the first and second points and not at all surprised by the second, well she had thought that the Captain might throw him out an airlock after the tirade she had heard. She thanked the ensign and then checked what was going on. It seemed that they had the entire Nekori crew in the pattern buffers and what was left of their ship in tow and were heading for the nearest planet.
There was nothing that required her immediate attention, Crystal checked the duty roster and found that she wasn't due on shift in just under eight hours. Now was a good time for a rest, she had done enough analysis that changes to the shields and phasers could be made, she could always do more but she would be no good to anyone if she fell asleep on duty. She saved all the data she had, then backed it up and then copied the key points to a PADD. She then check that everything as safely saved and locked, then went back to a quarters.
She sank into a chair and looked around briefly, there were (as she preferred) various random souvenirs on most available surfaces. This ship was definitely home now. She treated herself to a cocktail synthahol of course, the real stuff was for parties and other celebrations and broken hearts or other commiserations; not to mention she never drank alone. She finished her drink, asked the computer to wake her an hour before her shift, went to bed and killed the lights. She fell asleep quickly but not before wondering if she'd be interrupted.
Tiberian had not been completely shocked at his arrest, though the marines obviously were. He had allowed his weapons to be taken, and was escorted to the brig, Martinez in tow as always, where he was locked up in a holding cell. "Sorry about this sir, but you did kinda..." The security officer's voice trailed off as he left the brig, leaving Wong and Martinez alone, separated by a force field. Tiberian kicked off his boots and lay back on the bed, massaging his eyes. "You're screwed" Martinez said, ever retentive of his matter-of-fact tone. "And you're just a little ray of sunshine" Tiberian retorted sarcastically "But you don't see me complaining" "What the hell is your problem" Martinez flared up "If you would have been maybe a little less insurbordinate, you might only be looking at a brig sentence or a demotion. At this rate you'll be lucky to end up with a dishonourable discharge and avoid prison" "I did what I thought was right" Tiberian said slowly "And if I had to do it all over again, I reckon I would" "Then you're damned" Martinez answered bluntly. "I'd much sooner have the Captain damn me than my own conscience" Tiberian replied, removing his right hand to look at Martinez out of his right eye "I'm touched that you're this concerned" "Concerned my backside" Martinez let out a short, barking laugh "I'm just worried I'm going to have to learn how to wrap a new officer around my little finger" Both of them laughed. It was that same laugh they had used before, that one which men used when they face death and damnation without reprieve. "Anything I can get you?" Martinez asked. "A priest" Tiberian said "And a good lawyer" he thought for a moment "Actually, get Lieutenant Biers down here, I could probably do with someone of his expertise" "I'll find him for you" Martinez stood and saluted "It was an honour sir" "DO I look like I'm dying, or that I'm gonna go down without a fight" Tiberian had sat up and then stood, annoyed with this premature exchange of goodbyes "I'm still a marine, stil your ranking officer, and still the same hard headed, stubborn and insanely resistant Marine Major that I was five minutes ago. Now GET GOING" Tiberian had come less than a few millimetres away from the forcefield, and as Martinez left, he could have sworn that he had seen a small smile curl the Sergeant Major's lips. He turned back to his bunk and sat down. "I really am screwed" He placed his head in his hands and groaned to the empty brig.
Doctor Mallen had been returned to Olympia, undamaged, but a bit shaken. Her staff insisted that they thoroughly examine her before declaring her fit to return to duty. She would have continued working even if she was hurt, though. As the Nekori surrendered, the hostages started beaming into sickbay by the dozen, and a team had to be sent down to the cargo bay where more hostages were arriving.
As far as she could tell, the Nekori had mostly stopped experimenting while distracted by the Olympia. Most people were scared out of their minds, and understandably horrified by what they had seen, but the most physical damage that many had suffered was a little bit of malnourishment. They would live on, but they would always remember what they had been through. Mallen had an idea of how they felt.
At the first chance she got, Kiral took a med kit and went to the brig to examine Major Wong. She (like everyone else) had heard of the circumstances of his arrest. She also felt that it was partly her fault. In any case, he had gotten her back from the Nekori, and she owed him. He had fought on the Nekori ship, and she wanted to make sure he wasn't hurt.
The security officer outside of the brig let her in, then let down the force field of the holding cell long enough for her to step inside with the marine. She took out her tricorder and began her examination.
"I feel like this is my fault," she told him, speaking quietly. "I should have fought the Nekori harder, I shouldn't have let him get away with it. I shouldn't have healed him in the first place. So I'm sorry." There were a few scratches on Wong's arms from the shuttle crash, but they were barely bleeding, and Mallen didn't even know if he knew about them. She took out a dermal regenerator to close the scrapes. "I don't think I'll be able to thank you enough for coming after me. Let me know if there's any way I can try, Okay?"
Steve was manning his adopted position at Ops. The Olympia was headed back for Bellicose after they had rescued the Federation citizens from the hands of the Nekori. The mission had sure been different to say the least. There had been a few times when things had been a bit tense, but the crew had managed to pull through.
Upon looking around the bridge, Steve noticed that Tiberian, the XO, wasn't present. He wasnt sure why, but Steve had an inkling that it had something to do with the mission.
He got up, and approached the center chair.
"Captain, could I have a word with you in the Ready Room?" He asked, more an order, than a question.
As he left the science lab he made his way back to his office to do some work, most of the crew looked tired but they were coming off duty so that was to be expected. Entering his office he was surprised to see that plants had not dies yet, he expected at least a few to be in bad shape. Sitting down he looked over the reposts he had been neglecting most were just updates, a few interested him including two new members of staff that were to be added to the counselling department upon their return to Bellicose.
After spending an hour sieving through reports he felt to weak to continue he rose and left his office heading for his quarters, but after sealing the door behind him a marine rushed over making Daniel jump in surprise. “Lieutenant Biers, I need you help with Major Wong, can you come with me to the brig and see him” Daniel immediately recognised the marine as the marine Major Wong brought with him from the Victory. “you pick a fine time to …!” calming himself he re-started “sorry sir, I am just a bit tired today, take me to him” the marine took little notice to what he said as if he was going to make Daniel go if he liked it or not.
Arriving at the brig, Daniel looked at the major sitting in the brig then looked at Kiral who seemed to be saddened by the account that the marine was stuck here. “Well I couldn’t say I did not see this coming, well I assume you have asked me here to help you out of this situation." not waiting for the marine to answer he continued "Well the best way for that is for me to perform an evaluation to see if you are fit to command, do you agree?”
<Tag Wong>
“Well if you agree then we shall begin, I think it best that we start with explaining what you have been doing for the past 2 weeks, leave nothing out, if I can see why maybe I will be able to argue your case” Daniel knew what he asking for would have been thrown in his face a week ago with a few choice of words.
Nodding, David and Steven made their way into the ready room .. Once seated, he updated the temporary Operations Chief on the arrest, and current status of Major Wong .. Steven stayed silent during the report, then thought he'd better ask what Tan intended doing from here, but he was beaten to it ...
"With your permission .. I would like to bring this mission to a close .. I'm fully aware that I should wait until we reach Star base Bellicose .. But I feel if you are back in Command while out here you could deal with Major Wong yourself .. If we get back to Bellicose with me in Command I will have no choice but to turn him over to base security and go forward with an inquiry." David said.
Steven nodded, knowing this was the way to go. Taking that as approval, David continued ...
"Computer .. Log .. Restore former ranks .. Captain Steven Smith .. Lieutenant Commander David Tan .. Transfer all Command Codes back to Captain Smith."
"Ranks restored .. Command change over successful .. Command codes transfered." said the computer. Tan got up as did Steven, and the two shook hands ..
"Thank you for the opportunity Sir .. It's been .. Interesting to say the least." Tan said.
"It has indeed David .. Well done .. I'm sure we will have plenty to talk about over a drink or two." Steven said, smiling.
As the two men sat, chatting idly about aspects of the mission, David decided to ask about Wong.
"Sir .. I think you should get Major Wong up here." Smith nodded and tapped his Comms badge ..
=^= Captain to Security =^=
=^= Security =^=
=^= Have Major Wong escorted to the ready room please =^=
=^= Aye Sir .. Security out =^=
David got up, moving toward the door he said he should leave the two of them to discuss what's happened .. But the Captain had other idea's ..
"Stay right here David .. This insubordination and disobeying orders were directed at you .. As such you should be in on my discussion with the Major .. And hear first hand how I intend to deal with it .. I seems only fair in my view."
"Thank you Sir .. I appreciate that." David said, returning to his seat ..
Moments later the door chimed ..........
Tiberian smiled at the doctor. "I was doing my job, you don't have to thank me for that. Anyway" Tiberian stretched, it just so happens that my job is also my hobby, so it was in fact a real pleasure" He laid back on the bed, the doctor still sat on the end of it and thought aloud. "I always suppose you could dose me with opiates before I have to face the court martial if you really want to do something for me though. If I'm going to go to the wloves, I can at least do it giggling like a lunatic" He laughed. At that moment Martinez returned, tyhe counsellor in tow. Tiberian nodded to Martinez, dismissing him, and then turned to the doctor. "Thank you for your time Doctor Mallen. You've done more than enough for me" He smiled and she left. He then swung his feet back onto the floor to face Biers. “Well I couldn’t say I did not see this coming, well I assume you have asked me here to help you out of this situation." not waiting for the marine to answer he continued "Well the best way for that is for me to perform an evaluation to see if you are fit to command, do you agree?” "I'm not exactly in much of a position to argue am I" Tiberian responded, a mild tone of sarcasm infinging on his voice. “Well if you agree then we shall begin, I think it best that we start with explaining what you have been doing for the past 2 weeks, leave nothing out, if I can see why maybe I will be able to argue your case” "Well" Tiberian began looking briefly at the ceiling "Two weeks ago I woke up and had porridge for breakfast. Do you think that means something deep and intrinsic?" He looked jokingly at Biers, whose face remained business like and unimpressed. Tiberain became more serious. He recounted the events of roughly the last two weeks, illustrating he conversation with his memories of his arrival on the Olympia, his preparation for the mission, the arguments with Tan over his treatment of the Nekori, and so on. Nearly a full hour transpired in which Tiberian methodically recounted all the information whilst Biers wrote. Just as he was near his concluding remarks, two security officers entered and spoke to the brig officer. The forcefield was lowered, and they gestured to Tiberian. He saw they at least granted him the dignity of not having their phasers drawn, as if he might suddenly make a mad dash at them. "It would seem I'll have to conclude this wondruous story of magic and whimsy later Mr Biers" Tiberian said rising "Thank you for your time" He walked out of the brig, the officers escorting him to the turbolift, and then to the bridge. "I don't suppose you're escorting me to supper" Tiberian said, his arms folded. Neither guard responded. They emerged onto the bridge, and proceeded to chime the Captain's ready room door. The door opened, and Tiberian was ushered in, the guards remaining outside as the door closed. TIberian saluted first Smith, then Tan, and, before either could speak, got in his opening request. "I suppose I am to be denied the dignity of being left alone in a quiet room with a charged phaser on the table" Tiberian asked quietly, almost to himself, not expecting the gentlemanly treatment of centuries gone by.
When the doors to the Ready Room opened and allowed Tiberian to walk in, Steve was standing and in the middle of removing the hollow rank pip from his collar and replacing it with the extra two gold ones that restored his rank of Captain. They were in his desk, so they were readily accessible. Admittedly it looked a bit odd at the moment, considering Steve was still wearing the gold of Operations, but there hadn't been time to change, so changing the pips was suitable enough for now.
Before Steve could even begin to formulate how to begin the proceedings, Tiberian beat him to it.
"I suppose I am to be denied the dignity of being left alone in a quiet room with a charged phaser on the table"
Steve rolled his eyes, and sat back down. "That will not be necessary, Major." Steve picked up a nearby padd and pretended to make some notes, and then look to David for a brief second. He'd never had to discipline one of his officers before, let alone his First Officer. It was something he was not looking forward to, and had no idea as to what was the best course of action.
"I have just been made aware of some very serious issues of insubordination on your part towards Mr Tan here." Steve finally said, after a few moments silence.
"Now, if it was because you felt that you should have been in command of this mission instead of David, then that is partly understandable, BUT, your behaviour was not acceptable by any means whatsoever." Steve was beginning to sweat, and getting hot too.
"Or maybe you thought that as Mr Tan was only acting CO, his rank and authority didn't hold any weight, so you proceeded to push his boundaries and majorly cross them?" At this point Steve stood up and walked behind his chair. Tiberian was still standing on the opposite side of the desk, as Steve had not granted him a chair to sit down on. Before Steve made his next statement, he began slowly pacing, which was a sign that he was nervous, frustrated and confused. The crew never knew the reason why he paced..they just knew he did.
Turning to face Tiberian, he took a deep breath. "OR, and this is the crunch one...Or, you just simply thought that Mr Tan made the wrong choices and you thought that your way was better so you went against his explicit orders to do what you wanted to now. If that is the case, then we have a problem because I whole-heartedly agree with Mr Tan's course of action. So thats means that you would completely disregard MY orders too, and that is something I will not have."
Steve stared at Tiberian for a few moments and then sat back down. "Well, I want to hear from you directly. I want an explanation for your behaviour."
Tiberian had thought of a long and elaborate sob story for the Captain, one in which he would behave contritely and beg forgiveness in the most humble of manners. But Tiberian was anything but contrite, humble, and in the habit of begging. "Sir" Tiberian started "During the mission I was under no illusions about positions of seniority aboard this vessel. Commander Tan was in acting command, and that was good enough for me, sir. Nor was I under any form of mistaken impression that his rank did not hold weight, as I know it did" Tiberian exhaled and made a step towards the Captain. "The thing is sir, is that Commander Tan was in command, and that was the problem. A Captain has to see the big picture, whilst the rest of us are fortunate enough to be allowed to wrap ourselves up in our own little world. My world were those hostages sir. Now i admit I may have been wrong, but as far as I was, and still am for that matter, concerned, the lives of those hostages were paramount over any poxy regulation or hostile aliens life. My actions were insubordinate, granted. Granted also that they were, in a certain measure, overly aggressive and foolhardy. I will also hand it to you that some of my methods were unquestionably immoral, both in regards to people's personal sensibilities and the Federation. But sir, I am a UFOP Marine. It is my duty, a duty sworn directly to the Federation to itself, and above that of any subsequent oath sworn to a vessel, to protect all of it's citizens from all threats, foreign, and domestic, by any means at my disposal, and at any personal cost. I did what I thought was best for the lives of those hostages sir, willingly sacrificing my princples, and the wellbeing of me and my men for what I saw as the right reasons. Those hostages are safe sir, and had it not been for my insubordinate recklessness, not as many of them might be" He stepped back, now looking Smith directly in the eye, unflinching and unblinking. "I value the lives of those people that I saved well above my own, sir, just the same as I value all other Federation citizens, and all the men and women who I serve with. And if the cost of those peoples lives that I saved is a letter of reprimand in my file, my commission and a prison sentence, or a short rope and a long yard arm, then it is an honour to fulfill my oath paying it, sir. And, if I had to go back, make the same decisions, and do all this again, you and I would still be standing here, having this same conversation, sir" Tiberian came smartly to attention, his eyes now focused on the wall behind the Captain, waiting for judgement.
Crystal ended up waking up before her alarm with two new ideas buzzing around in her head. Unfortunately neither had anything to do with her current major project: one was to do was a small zero-g xenobotany project she had set running on her second day on the Olympia; the other was a new way to test stresses in organic nano-materials. She knew there was no was she was going to fall asleep again with these thoughts on her mind, so she sat up grabbed a fresh PADD off her bedside table (placed there for moments such as this) and set to work noting down and refining her ideas for later use, whether they would survive to practical application remained to be seen.
When she had finished her notes Crystal decided that there was no point attempting to get more sleep so she might as well make the best of it. She got up, got dressed and settled down to sort a few more things out. She still had holorecordings from her last fieldtrip to sort out and add to her album. "Go Elvie" she said and watched as the toy, for want of a better description, rose to its feet and headed off in a straight line across the table and up the wall.
(Aside: Elvie, more properly ExperimentaL Voice Instruction Eight, is one of Crystal's souveniers. Elvie was built by a T'Sel a gifted robotics/computers postgrad friend of Crystal's to test his new program and had then been gifted to Crystal after Elvin had been built. It was a voice controlled wandering device that on a simple activation would go in a straight line until it met an obstacle it couldn't pass, it would then turn at a random angle and head off again.)
Crystal finished her album updates. Switched Elvie off, collected it from wall opposite and replaced the toy on the table. She gathered up her PADDs and headed for the lab. She had a few tests, to make before her shift started.
Steve sighed deeply, knowing that he wasn't getting anywhere with his XO.
"But you cannot know how many more people would have died if you hadn't gone rushing in. For all we know, NO-ONE could have died if Mr Tan's orders were carried out as they were supposed to have done from the start."
Anger was rising rapidly inside Steve, but he wasn't going to let that show.
"You are the First Officer of a starship. When you are on duty with such vessel, you will follow the orders of its commanding officer, in this case of this mission, Commander Tan. Whatever he orders, you WILL comply with, and now the command has been switched back, you will follow the orders that I give you. If you don't feel that you can do that, then get the hell off my ship. I do not want a First Officer who is going to refuse to carry out his orders and go off on his own."
Steve leant forward on his desk and pushed a padd towards Tiberian.
"I have read your record, and have seen how well your career has progressed so far. I do not want that career to end here abruptly. I am prepared to allow you to stay as XO of the Olympia, without having to have a court martial. I will be putting a formal reprimand on your file, but that is as far as I am prepared to take it. Now, here's where you have the choice. If you do not feel you can comply with what I ask of you and you can't do what I have just said, then when we reach the Starbase, I want you off this vessel immediately. If, however, what I have said is acceptable to you, then once you have added your thumbprint to this reprimand you can still remain as the Oly's XO."
Steve looked to David, who didn't seem to show any reaction at all. He then turned back to Tiberian.
"So....what do you say?"
"Sir .. If I may ?" David said, looking at the expression on Wong's face.
The Captain hesitated for a few seconds, glancing from David, to his Wong and back again. Finally nodding for Tan to continue.
Standing, David knew both his Captain and First Officer weren't going to like what he said, but frankly, it needed saying .. If what he had to say made working together impossible, and that meant his having to transfer to another vessel, then so be it ...
"Major Wong .." he began, "I have every respect for your rank and position on the Olympia .. But as you said yourself .. You are a Marine .. But this is a Federation ship and as such needs a Command structure that reflects that .. The 'Gung-ho' Do or die attitude in my opinion has no place within that Command structure .. Granted .. Marine contingents are useful .. Even, at times a necessity on board a Star ship .. But not how you used both them and the Federation crew .. A Command 'structure' is vital .. It is also paramount that that structure be respected .. I have no idea how ignoring orders or direct insubordination are viewed within the Marine community .. But THIS isn't a Marine vessel .. As such a Marine Exec or even Commander in my opinion should be Federation first .. Marine second .. Even to be able to combine the two .. Yes I would 'expect' my XO to have an opinion and to bring that opinion to me .. But not just go off and do what he thought right !"
Tan waited for a few seconds, half expecting Wong at least to interrupt. When neither Officer spoke, both looking at Tan, he finished off what he was saying ..
"As the Olympia's Second Officer, and Chief Operations Officer .. My duty is to the Captain .. The Executive Officer .. And the ship as a whole .. I will carry out those duties to the best of my abilities .. The issue has been dealt with and as such is no longer relevant .. My 'opinion' on how it was dealt with is neither relevant or required and as such will remain unspoken .. Suffice to say I'm not happy with how this has been dealt with ! .. But I respect the Captains decision and think the incident should be put to one side when we leave this office ... Thats all I have to say Sir." David said, looking from Wong, to the Captain, before retaking his seat ..........
BEFORE
----Temporary Captain at the time - David Tan----
"NO"
"Sir." said Vander, puzzled, "I've managed to get the Nekori talking .. He's almost offered to give our people back if we were to get him to his ship."
"I appreciate your effort Commander .. I'm also grateful that you have brought Major Wong's methods to my attention." David said, looking at his Tactical Officer, "But there is NO way in hell i'm going to send him back over there !" he finished, pointing defiantly at the Nekori vessel ...
"But I don't unde ......." David held up a hand to silence Halthor.
"Open a channel to that ship."
------------------
after the channel had been opened
------------------
"You 'still' want to send your friend back over there Vander ... Get all the Senior staff in my ready room in five minutes !" Tan finished, getting up and leaving the stunned Bridge crew in silence ..........,credit goes to david tan.
AFTER
After getting the senior staff into the ready room and following the order by the captain at the time he had finished his duties and wanted to go to ten forward to get his mind off of things, so he had proceeded out of the staff room, the door swung open and he then walked his way to the turbolift that would lead down to ten forward. Halthor walked in and then motioned, "Ten forward" the door shut and speed its way down to the recreational area on the ship.
After the turbolift had arrived down at its department the door swung open, with vander walking out taking a deep breath and then proceeding his way to the ten forward area. "Seems like i could use some of andorians finest through the replicators we have." Entering ten forward he had noticed only a few people were there and he had made his way to the replicator. "One andorian drink please" the replicator synthesized a beverage and he took it and brought it to the table and began drinking while looking at the stars.
Tiberian looked a the charge, and found it to be reasonable. He added his thumbprint, confirming his desire to remain as the Olympia's XO. The Captain had been more than fair, and if that was the way he wanted things, then TIberian would see it done. "Sir" he said "I will fulfill any orders that you give me from now on to the letter, sir. With the only exception of if those orders are immoral or dangerously incompetent, sir" He saluted. "My compliments sir, and I'll be about my duties" He nodded at the Captain, who nodded back, seeming to be at least temporarily satisfied with Tiberian. He turned on heel and marched out of the ready room, the doors closing behind him. The security officers had waited outside, and now looked curiously at Tiberian, He smiled and nodded at them, indicating that they could leave, and would not be needed to escort him back to the brig. "So you got away with it then?" Martinez had been sat in his seat, obviously waiting for the verdict. Tiberian pulled a face and gestured to him to get out of his seat, which he duly did. "Not quite" Tiberian said, sitting down and accessing his computer terminal "I have a reprimand in my file, and an obvious threat of being thrown out on my jacksey if I ever try something like that again" "Which you undoubtedly will" Martinez responded with a statement, not a question. "Not if I can help it" Tiberian answered pointedly "The Captain is back in command, and he seems a decent enough guy. I reckon he'll give me no need to go into overkill mode" He finished up and stood. =/\=Wong to Ensign Rose. Would you mind finishing any of those simulations you were running on the Nekori weapon, and then compiling a full report. I expect the boys at Starfleet R&D would like to have a look at it=/\=
<TAG Ensign Rose>
He turned to Martinez as the two walked towards the turbolift. "Did we recover the Flyer that we crashed?" Martienz nodded. "It's in bay one, and pretty beaten up might I add" "Let's go take a look" Tiberian said, entering the turbolift and nodding to the officer of the watch to take over until the Captain came out. As the turbolift moved to deck seven, TIberian hit his comm badge again. =/\=Wong to Doctor Mallen. Sorry to run you ragged doc, but could I get an update report on the wounded personnel, Staff Sergeant Derbyshire, and that injured engineer in particular=/\=
<TAG Doctor Mallen>
They had arrived on deck seven, and within a few moments walked into the crowded shuttlebay. Nearly fifteen crew of all departments were crowded around the battered hulk of what had been one of the Delta Flyer class shuttles aboard the Olympia. Most of the outer hull had been stripped away or severely lacerated, mostly due to the force of the crash. The portside nacelle was missing, as was the top half of the right hand nacelle. The viewer was charred black, and the entry hatch was dented inwards by at least one whole foot, causing it to strain away at the edges. Underneath the shuttle, which was shaking the flimsy and damaged support struts, a large portion of the ventral section had been torn away, exposing the shuttles primary plasm coils, whilst on the dorsal section, most of the shuttle was missing, having been ripped from the hull with the jettisoned docking system. =/\=Wong to Lieutenant Trul=/\= Tiberian tapped his comm badge =/\=I might have a little repair job for you=/\=
<TAG Lieutenant Trul>
Tiberian tapped his comm badge again. =/\=Wong to Commander Tan. Commander, when we arrive at Bellicose we're going to need a ludicrous amount of supplies to make up for what we used on this mission, not to mention a new shuttle if we can't get this one up and running. Check through the inventory and compile me a preliminary list of gear that we can amend as time goes on. Have it to me by 09:00 tommorrow if you please. Wong out=/\=
<TAG Commander Tan>
OOC: There, now everyone has a little something to be getting along with.
Daniel woke suddenly on his desk not sure how he had fallen asleep, lifting his head he saw a few new reports had found their way to him. Reading through them he found that the new residents of the Olympia had asked for him to see them, which to Daniel was a good sign. Lifting himself from his chair he walked around the room watering the plants before leaving arriving at on of the more bigger plants he edged away as it tried to snap at him. Confused he decided to leave it as he must be a little tired. Arriving at the room the colonists were being housed in he found one of the men speaking to the security officers, nodding his head to the officer he asked permission to enter the room from the man who let him through. Looking around the room most of them were starting to feel comfortable at last which Daniel was happy for. “you asked to see me?” Daniel asked one of the leaders of the group, “yes, I am glad you are here, a few of the children have fallen ill and as they seem to have taken a liking to you, would you mind taking them down to your medical facilities?” Daniel looked around to the pair of children being nursed by their mothers, they were smiling so it was not to bad. “yes I do not mind I will take the children and their parents if they want?” Daniel added as it was best the parents be there. As both mothers nodded and rose the leader passed Daniel a Padd, “here is the list of names who are with us so you can compile a list of the dead” Daniel accepted the Padd and spoke softly “remember if you need anything else I am sure we will be able to provided it” smiling he stepped out of the room with the children and parents in tow. Arriving at sick bay he saw Kiral moving around collecting information on the patients, “Commander Mallen, would you mind looking over this two for a moment please” he watched as Kiral motioned one of the nurses to attend to them, ‘she must be in a rush’. Daniel waited to confirm the kids were okay, it turned out they had caught a cold, parents obviously relieved he took them back to the rest of the group. After receiving thanks from the parents and children and watching them enter he began to walk away “Computer locate the first officer” Daniel decided to ask for the first officer in case Tiberian was removed from position, =/\=Major Wong is in the shuttle bay on deck 9 =/\= making his way to deck 9 he complied his report on the colonists and the crew of the Olympia he had evaluated since being here. Arriving at the very crowded room he looked around to see the major spotting him looking at the remains of the delta flier he crashed into the nekori ship, “Major Wong, sorry to bother you, I have a report on the crew of the Olympia I have so far evaluated including your self. And a list of the colonists and their mental states, so that a list of the dead can be made.” Daniel regretted having to say the last part but it was a fact that people had died. <Tag Wong> ooc you forgot me i know you don't like conselors but still lol
The three days passed without incident .. The Olympia was now only hours from Starbase Bellicose ...
"Sir." said the duty Navigation Officer, "We are within range of Bellicose .. They are asking if we require space-dock facilities for our repairs."
"Tell them yes we do .." Tan said, tapping him Comms badge ..
=^= Tan to Captain =^=
=^= Go ahead David =^=
=^= Sir .. We will be docking in ninety minutes .. I requested space-dock for our arrival =^=
=^= Good .. I'll be on the Bridge shortly Commander .. Inform Major Wong and have him prepare for the base's service personnel =^=
=^= Yes Sir .. Tan out =^=
David sighed. The trip back, in his opinion, had seen no improvement in the First Officer's demeanor .. He was still barking orders as if the whole crew were on the parade ground, it just strengthened Tan's conviction that Wong simply didn't realize how his 'do it yesterday' attitude came across .. He looked at the PADD he was using. Scanning through several pages, he came to the one he was looking for. It was headed .. 'TRANSFER REQUEST' .. But as yet had nothing more on the page. He was still unconvinced that a transfer would be the best way to go, maybe the relationship would become workable, and David hoped it would. After several seconds thought, he hit the 'delete' tab, and the screen went blank .. All Starship senior staff needed to be able to work well together, their very lives could depend on just that, but there needed to be something 'more', something that 'bound' the crew together, he just hoped that Major Wong would see that too at some point. The Olympia simply wasn't a 'Gung-ho' vessel ... Finished with his thoughts, Tan tapped his Comms badge once again ...
=^= Tan to Major Wong =^=
=^= Wong =^= a seemingly out of breath FO replied.
=^= We will be docking in under ninety minutes .. The Captain asked me to inform you to make sure we're ready for the service personnel that will be boarding =^=
=^= Very well .. Wong out =^=
David sat quietly looking at the stars and reflecting on his first, and most likely only opportunity at Command .. At least in the near future ..........
Crystal had just started work when her comm badge bleeped.
=/\=Wong to Ensign Rose. Would you mind finishing any of those simulations you were running on the Nekori weapon, and then compiling a full report. I expect the boys at Starfleet R&D would like to have a look at it=/\=
'I'm sure they would' she thought "Yes sir. Do you want me to forward you a copy of the final report?" she said. The XO replied in the affirmative.
Crystal set to work. Most of the simulations were done but that meant there was a lot of data to collate and analyse. Leiutentant Thul had been very helpful. She then had the report to write, twice - once in formal scientific language for her records and the R&D department and once in layman's terms for the Captain and the XO and anyone else who was interested. If there was one thing she had learned from trying to explain her work to non scientists was that people didn't really appreciate being bamboozled with technical terms that might as well as have been a different language. She also submitted a preliminary research paper in her name and Leiutentant Thul's lest the R&D department try to scoop their discoveries.
Her zero-g xenobotany experiement was running nicely and on the trip back to Bellicose Crystal had found some time to catch up on even more reading and write another few paragraphs of her thesis. She was mildly annoyed to find that studying the affect of the Nekori weapon had reawakened her interest in high energy plasma physics, which had led to even more reading.
Crystal sent her final reports and settled in her quarters, she checked the ship's status with the computer. They were just over an hour from starbase. She knew they would be staying a while and hoped to have time to actually see the base rather than simply running from one docking port to another. Crystal also hoped that she would have a chance to get to know the other members of senior staff a little better and maybe convince them that she wasn't more interested in here experiments that the people around her.
It wasn't that long since she had arrived on the Olympia but it felt like an age ago, a lot had happened since they had shipped out. Despite having a few more nightmares in the collection she had never had so much fun. This was what she had wanted to do. Crystal grinned.
Sickbay was busy now. Kiral was running routine checks on all of the rescued hostages and examining other injured personnel. Fortunately, most of her staff was there to help her.
Mallen was stressed and tired, so she was considering, of all things, getting a haircut. It just seemed like a good idea. She was rushing around, making sure everyone was alright... and all she could think about was chopping off most of her hair. She supposed it was just her way of dealing.
=/\=Wong to Doctor Mallen. Sorry to run you ragged doc, but could I get an update report on the wounded personnel, Staff Sergeant Derbyshire, and that injured engineer in particular=/\=
Mallen looked at a computer console to remember exactly who the Major was referring to. =/\= Right. Reconstructive surgery on the engineer has been completed, but the new skin needs to set for a while. He won't be returning to duty for a few days. Derbyshire is better off; he'll be up and about in a few hours. =/\=
She looked at the time, and exhaustion rushed over her. She had been up and busy for a long time now. More than anything, she wanted to lay down and sleep. She was still alert enough to do her job-- the Goombay Punch kept her awake-- but she was looking forward to the minute her shift ended, so she could return to her quarters, away from all the chaos.
Having left the shuttlebay, Tiberian returned to his quarters for what turned out to be the first time in nearly three days. He had been running on a pure combination of sugar, caffeine and adrenaline since the first boarding action of the Nekori vessel, and had had precious little time to rest. Not including, of course, his little stint in the brig. The breakfast things that he had used a few days before still lay upon his table, and a mixture of padds and other reports lay strewn almost everywhere. He bagan by recycling the breakfast things on the table, and then attempted to sort through the padds, organising them into categories. Lastly, he analysed the list of the dead, as well as the additional survivor list that had been handed to him by Biers. He would have to contact the station coroner on Bellicose to see to their internment until the families could arrange proper burials. As hge read, the words on the padd began to blur, and Tiberian knew in no uncertain terms that he was crashing and needed sleep. He placed the padd on the table, and kicked of his boots as he stood. Half undressing as he walked, Tiberian reached his bed in only his undershirt and boxers, the rest of his clothing marking the trail he had taken behind him. He lay down, and sleep embraced him. His sleep was an uneasy one, and images flashed in and out of his mind. He was on the Nekori ship, all the towering animals around him, laughing, as they surrounded a group of cowering women and children. He tried to reach for his phaser but could not move, he tried to close his eyes but was forced to leave them open, watching, as one of the Nekori reached out to the woman terrified before him. Tiberian sat up, the cricket phaser he always kept under his pillow drawn and aiming wildly about the room. He was soaked in sweat, and his heart was racing, with ihs breathing not far behind. =^= Tan to Major Wong =^= =^= Wong =^= a seemingly out of breath FO replied. =^= We will be docking in under ninety minutes .. The Captain asked me to inform you to make sure we're ready for the service personnel that will be boarding =^= =^= Very well .. Wong out =^= Tiberian collapsed back onto his bed, slowly calming his breathing, and restowing the phaser beneath his pillow. He stodd, walked to the bathroom, and splashed copious amounts of cold water on his face and body, breathing slower and slower, calming his heart rate as the water dripped from him. Then came the sonic shower and fresh uniform, followed by the cleaning away of his uniform of the previous three days. He ordered nearly a pint of strong, sweet Landras blend coffee, and sat down at the table to review the padds one last time. Deciding on a course of action, he stood and made for the door, tapping his comm badge. =/\=Wong to Doctor Mallen and Lieutenant Biers, would you mind joining me on the bridge in about ten minutes=/\= He walked to bridge, deciding to gain some exercise by forgoing the turbolift, and instead employing the ladders within the Jeffries tube system. He arrived on the bridge within five minutes, surprising the ensign at the science station when he crawled out of the tube between her legs. Smiling at her and kicking the hatch shut, he walked around to his seat as if nothing had ever happened. Within a minute Mallen and Biers were present, and Tiberian began his informal briefing session. "Alright ladies and gentlemen, I'm afraid that before we can all go on leave there are a few things that need seeing to. There are jobs for everyone, so listen up" He drew two padds and handed them over to Mallen and Biers "Doctor, will you and Lieutenant Biers see to the disembarkation of all the rescued hostages, and ensure their safe billeting aboard Bellicose. I know we've already done it over here but a medical and psychological workup would be appreciated, as would assistance in contacting their families and preparing funeral arrangements for those deceased that we have onboard. I'll contact the station commander and ensure you're given full leaway with the station personnel. You may wish to use either Commander Halthor's security personnel or the marines to see to the transfer, but I leave that entirely up to you"
<TAG Mallen and Biers>
"Commadner Tan" Tiberian said turning to the once again operations officer "Would you oversee the repairs of battle damage to the Olympia. It shouldn't be too much of a job, and I'll set Lieutenant Trul on under you, so you can delegate some of the tasks at hand"
<TAG Commander Tan>
"Once we dock, I'll see the station personnel who are relevant, and let them know which of you to come to about what. Once that's over I'll either be sorting out the resupply and recrewing, or I'll be about if somebody needs me. On a general note" He now addressed everyone "If anything needs validation or approval, find either myself or Commadner Tan. I hear the Captain has got a pregnant wife aboard, so let's try not to bother him. Well, if there's nothing else, you'd best report to you stations" The crowd dispersed and Tiberian stood in the centre circle as they approached Bellicose. "Helm, slow to one third impulse. Open a hailing frequency" The Olympia decelerated, and the ensign at science nodded that the channel was open. "Starbase Bellicose, this is the USS Olympia, requesting permission to dock for shoreleave" "Roger that Olympia, permission granted. Please proceed to outer pylon two for docking. Bellicose out" "You heard the lady" Tiberian said the helmsman "Take her in ncie and slow" The Olympia proceeded to the pylon and attached with a gentle bump, the docking clamps sealing the ship fast against the side of the station. "Deactivate all drive systems" Tiberian ordered "Power down and switch to station supported power. All personnel are free to board the station"
OOC: Well that's the end of that chapter. Commander Arya Smith has been kind enough to create a leave thread called "The Return" on Bellicose, so if we can all adjoun their for shoreleave. Everyone has something to do except for Miss Rose, to whom I most heartily apologise. I reckon that you could always carry on soem wacky experimant should you wish, or just tag on to one of the teams. Well, let's get to it.
Crystal was still in her quarters when the XO's message was broadcast. She stuffed a few things into a small shoulder bag and started off for the airlock. She was halfway there when it occurred to her to check that her experiments had survived the switch to station power.
The main lab was empty when she arrived, hardly surprising given the number of devoted science staff on board. She check her experiments and noted what else was being run, there was nothing new. She wandered round the lab for a while doing a bit of a tidy up while she had a moment.
Eventually Crystal returned to the corridors heading for the airlock, it seemed that everyone else was either on Bellicose all ready or still busy. With a glance over her shoulder at what was definitely now home Crystal stepped on to the star base to explore.
Indeed, the mission is over, and as Mr T pointed out, we are now on shoreleave on Bellicose. Well done on a great mission guys, especially David, considering he was the CO this time round. The usual mission stats will be posted...this time with a summary by Mr Tan...as he was CO, its his privilege! Keep up up people! ;D
