Coming upon the doorway, he ran smack into Fox, almost knocking him over. "Sorry, Commander, head in clouds, happens", chuckled Byrne as he steadied Fox. "Listen, I have been bouncing the math and I think if you elevate the polarization of the plating, you can knock off the interference causing the neutrino leakage. Here's the specs, beaming back to the Mercury to finish learning where everything is." After Fox had taken the pad from Logan which he literally pushing in Fox' hands, Logan ran off toward the transporter room. Fox continued his way to Discordia's engineering section, looking at the pad Logan had given him. In engineering he walked to the nearest free console and started working on the calculations Logan made, trying to eliminate the interference. After some time working behind that console Fox looked at the sensor readings again and saw they showed no signs of neutrino leakage anymore. After his work was done Fox walked out of engineering, going back to Discordia's bridge. Fox walked through some corridors to get to the lift when he saw Logan walk in the opposite direction. He halted him and gave the pad back with the updated sensor readings. "Job is done." he said smiling "Everything should work now as it should." Logan reviewed the readings and nodded "Well done." Both men continued their way. <On the bridge> Crewmen Tanner had taken the spot behind the helm console, when a transmission from Minerva came in, containing coordinates for a rendezvour point of the modules. He turned around on his chair looking behind him. "Should i lay in a course?" Seeing the captain's chair was empty Fox, who just walked on the bridge said. "yes, do so." Tanner turned back again, setting course for the received coordinates.

*Ooh he looks scary, no wait now he just looks stupid. Oww now that looked bad. Is that ice cream over there?* Her thoughts had been following a slightly random line for the last five minutes. It was difficult not to in such a surreal situation. L'Ola had known that this whole trip would be a completely new experience and had try to prepare. But as mind blocking had become second nature to her, she needed something to concentrate on. And it just wasn't happening. She picked up her Pineapple Fizzer and took a sip, trying not to look nervous. Anyone who had actually met her knew that she could hold her own in a hand to hand fight. However she looked anything but threatening, and with no desire to get into a fight L'Ola was doing her best to look confident and blend in. Blending in was easier said than done with the mix of people present. At least everyone was keeping mostly to themselves. *Just think about why you're going through this* she told herself. It would be worth it all, even the potential consequences when they went back to the Vesuvius. Even so, she was very grateful 3 drinks later when Reman appeared back again. At least now she was with someone who'd done this sort of thing before... <OOC: Sorry this is late and short, I'll try to think of something good for when I get back >

By now, Sonak wished L'Ola hadn't gone off with Reman on their unauthorized trip. She would have to remember to dicipline both officers for their insubordination, though she was certain both officers had good reason to go AWOL. She pained her memory, trying to remember who else had served as security chief. The assistant security chief was still fairly new to the job as well and she wasn't certain she could trust the young officer with the task.
Eventually, she called Hedin to the bridge, knowing that with his long-livity he might know something. She patted the first officer's seat, indicating that the chief medical officer should sit down. "Doctor, have you ever heard of the Order of Black Tal-Opal?" she asked right out of the blue, "this Klingon general told me that Admiral Nova may have become a victim of their practices. He also informed me that Nova has once been injected with a Falconian DNA tracer. I would like you to get in contact with Commander Byrne and work on a way to modify our sensors to pick up on this DNA tracer. The general informed me that it may not be easy, but that it can be done."
(Hedin/Byrne off you go)
Sonak inhaled sharply as she felt her baby kick hard and she leaned back in her seat. "You never told me the result of the scans," she finally confronted her chief medical officer, "how am I doing? Is the baby healthy?"
(Hedin)
Sonak returned her gaze to the viewscreen; soon they would enter orbit around the planet Tiburon. The Vulcan commanding officer had a hunch that she was about to embark on some expedition, but without knowing what the message said, there was no way of knowing what exactly. By now she started wondering whether Commander Hawk had received her message. This made her wish again that she'd not told Starfleet that they wouldn't need a cryptographer, having had one would've made things a whole lot easier right now.
"How good is your Falconian?" she then asked Hedin and Harper.
Harper shrugged. "I don't think I've ever heard of the language ma'am," he confessed, "at least not before you brought it up a few hours ago. I can't find any reference in the databanks, and the universal translator program doesn't recognize it either."
Sonak sighed in visible frustration. "We had to go to this planet, that is all I could make of the message. Discordia was on our tail, have they entered the system yet? What about the Klingon vessel, are they till trailing us?"
Harper crossed the bridge towards the OPS console. "Klingon vessel is still trailing, and Discordia has dropped out of warp too. They're following our example and enter orbit around Tiburon right now. Mercury reports that they've found something and they're following a lead, but they'll get here eventually. There's no known information about the whereabouts of Commanders Kanz and Jared," Harper reported.
Again, Sonak sighed. "Very well. You have earned a break now commander, report back in a few hours. I am certain Doctor Hedin will keep me some company on the bridge, until Byrne and Fox can beam over to assist us in solving this puzzle."
(Hedin/Fox/Byrne)
ooc: admiral, could you enter a message from Hawk regarding the translation request?

As Byrne paced the hallways tapping on his PADD, his mind kept flashing back to something his grandfather told him as a late nite story, about the days before the ancients, where all you needed was a desire and things went youy way. Something in the back of his mind kept saying , hell of a time to think about this. Then it hit him, a book his grandfather told him about could be the link they need to decifer the unknown language. tapping his combage, he said," Commadore, I think I know the reference we can use to decifer the codes Admiral nova sent. But, problem is, I don't even know if the source exists in text anymore, I will meet you in your ready room. Byrne out." Running to the nearest library terminal, Byrne requested information on the book, 'The Language of the Birds', thinking if Falconian is really an ancient species from Earth, then maybe they may have been the ones who wrote it. Downloading the information to his PADD, Byrne hopped on the turbolift to the bridge. Once he hit the bridge, he was taken by the grim demeanour of the bridge crew. " Ma'am, I think you need to see this, and i also think it could help find the tracer implant, as well", said Byrne. Entering the ready room with the Commadore, Byrne rushed to the holomonitor accross from the commadore's desk, pushing a series of buttons, Byrne explained, "As i see it, the falconiains a very proud race, shrouded in their technology, but they admit one thing, that they were once inhabitants on Earth. in such, they had developed from the same speech patterns that made up the root dialects of Earth. If we can find the book of the birds, I think we would have a start. But as far as the senors go, I think if we can tune it to avian DNA, we may have a chance to pick him out, but no guarentees. I will keep you posted". With that, Byrne downloaded the information to the commadore's desktop and left to rejoin Fox in Engineering.

The shuttle had been finished for some time now, but still the pair waited for the next addition. Some weapons were being added onto the top of the shuttle where a weapons pod had been installed during the painting. Of course, this ship wasn't large enough to support the high energy requirements of phasers, so some more beta quadrant technology was being used. High yield lasers were being fitted underneath the shuttle's interior floor so that they shot out of the front with some variable range targetting so they would swivel slightly in the mountings to close up for shorter ranges or move out for longer. Although they were as powerful as phasers, they didn't require the longer firing time and required less room for the actual emitters. The downside was that they couldn't hold fire on the same spot whilst manoeuvring, but they weren't planning on taking on anything too big either way. Of course, it also made it harder for the enemy to see where the shots were coming from since there wasn't a consistent energy reading. On the pod on top were the anti-starship weapons. Four large missiles, each capable of going right through a shield and into a ship before exploding and with greater manoeuvrability than photon or quantum torpedoes. Jared didn't know who had made them originally, but he knew he wasn't going to find replacements easily so didn't plan on using them too much.
'Isn't this all going to be too much for the warp core?' Kanz asked 'The old core was removed some time ago. It now runs off a Tholian energy source. Unfortunately I don't know exactly how it works so we can't break it unless we have some Tholians around to fix it. Likewise the faster than light drive isn't Starfleet but Tholian as well.' 'So it's not warp?' 'Nope, the Tholians use different technology. They tend to use webs as their primary weapons as well to trap ships.' 'Ooh...' 'No' Jared said, forestalling the inevitable question 'we don't have that on this. Anyway, it needs two ships to work so they always travel in pairs.' 'Aww. It looks like they're done though' As indeed they were. And so the pair boarded the ship, said goodbye and as soon as they were clear of the station entered lightspeed. 'So if it's not warp, what is it?' Kanz asked 'I'm not sure. It's just some sort of super accelleration. It means no messing about with warp fields and if it goes wrong then we just stop and nothing bad can happen. Downside is that it can only be used in charted space in case you hit a star or anything. Outside of that we have to use warp' 'We have both? Isn't that a bit dodgy?' 'Yes, it is. Making Starfleet engines work off a Tholian energy core isn't exactly easy, so don't break it. Anyway, what will we tell Sonak about Lucy? We're going to need this shuttle to access the Jump Zone so we can ask them to take the Vesuvius through. But in order to explain the shuttle, we have to explain why we'd want to use it.' <Kanz>
'I don't think Sonak's going to like having someone else fly the Vesuvius' Kanz pointed out 'Tough. That's the only way they do it. And apparently they have giant battleships next to the holes with enough firepower to reduce Borg cubes to rubble. People say the only reason they don't move them is that they can't make the engines work, but I wouldn't stake my life on it.'
'Long range sensors are picking up one of the Vesuvius modules nearby.' Kanz reported 'We better go and meet that one then. If they're planning on flying to Multo then they're not going to come out in one piece.' Jared set the course and then went aft. 'Where are you going?' Kanz asked 'I'm going to use the bed. And no, you can't come since it's only one double bed.' Jared went into the aft most compartment and closed the door. It opened again a second later. 'By the way, the toilet's there he said and pointed to a compartment forward of the bedroom which featured a shower, basin and toilet. Then the door closed again. Had Jared or Kanz heard of them, they'd have probably compared the shuttle to a Winnebago. But they hadn't, so they didn't.

Eventually, she called Hedin to the bridge, knowing that with his long-livity he might know something. She patted the first officer's seat, indicating that the chief medical officer should sit down. "Doctor, have you ever heard of the Order of Black Tal-Opal?" she asked right out of the blue. "This Klingon general told me that Admiral Nova may have become a victim of their practices. He also informed me that Nova has once been injected with a Falconian DNA tracer. I would like you to get in contact with Commander Byrne and work on a way to modify our sensors to pick up on this DNA tracer. The general informed me that it may not be easy, but that it can be done."
Hedin's eyes widened somewhat in surprise, and his thought processes began to shift into overdrive. "The Order? I haven't heard from them is quite some time, not since long before the Federation-Klingon alliance formed. In the late the 2250s, the Klingon Empire invaded several Orion-held worlds, part of their general expansionist policy in those days. As we're all aware, it eventually led to an inevitable confrontation with the Federation and the Organian Peace Treaty."
"But what Starfleet records gloss over is the fact that the inhabitants of several Orion colonies managed to evade the Klingon fleet and set up a stronghold on the extreme environment of a planet somewhere in the Tiburon system. Given that many of the worlds in that system possess extreme conditions, they were well camouflaged from their pursuers and anyone else who might happen by. While their brethren on the conquered colonies eventually submitted to the Klingons, surrendered their government, went underground and ironically rose again to become masters of black market trade in the region, the Order apparently rejected the capitulation of their despised kin, and pledged to maintain the traditions and solidarity of the ancient Orion clans, chief of which was the Black Tal-Opal."
"They've been waging a rather ineffective guerilla war ever since, ususally amounting to occasional raids on Klingon shipping lanes, enough to sustain their somehwat desperate existence. If they've somehow acquired new allies, they could begin to represent more of a threat. I wouldn't put the Admiral's abduction past them, either; it's exactly the kind of symbolic act they would value. Given that Admiral Nova is a trusted ally among certain members of the Klingon military, his abduction may carry enough weight to force them to exert pressure on the High Command to bring the Federation to the negotiating table where they could bargain for official recognition in exchange for the Admiral's release."
"The only reason I'm familiar with their history is that I was part of a non-aligned humanitarian team dispatched to the area at the time of the Klingon invasion. Though I was a Starfleet medical student, I agreed to officially resign in order to meet the condition that any aid missions sent into the combat zone not be aligned with any government. I was re-instated after the crisis, but during my time rendering aid to the Orion refugees, I apparently earned enough respect among them that I was granted the status of Xeb, a title which is not easily translated; basically, it makes me an elder of the clan, albeit one with limited rights as an alien. If they are anything like they once were, they will honor that title to the death. I know it sounds like a strange idea concerning Orions, but even the Syndicate still follows a faint vestige of the old forms, twisted for their nefarious purposes, of course."
Sonak inhaled sharply as she felt her baby kick hard and she leaned back in her seat. "You never told me the result of the scans," she finally confronted her chief medical officer. "How am I doing? Is the baby healthy?"
Hedin handed her a PADD. "Healthy as a Vegan minotaur, ma'am, both of you. Here are the results of the pre-natal scan I conducted earlier. I do want to stress that the unpredictability of inter-species pregnancy is still a factor, no matter how extensive my genetic therapy tenchinques might be. However, today's rate of successful human-Vulcan pregnancies is far more promising than in decades past. The most important factor, in my professional opinion, is the physical fitness and mental state of the mother, particularly were the Vulcan tactile-induced telepathic bond comes into play."
"With your previous children, this was not so much of a concern as it is now. Your baby, being half-human, will not be naturally accustomed to intense psychic connection with anyone. Your own thought processes will have to remain more controlled, and exercise more restraint than usual in order to avoid overloading your infant's still-fragile brain. I have included in my report recommendations as to meditative and other exercises which will help meet this need. And if you ever need assistance with any of them, please don't hesitate to ask." He smiled warmly.

T'Ress got back to her feet and motioned her lackeys forward again and gave her prisoner a toothy grin as they dumped yet another load of ice cold water over him. The cell floor was starting to get slippery from the water, but her boots kept her from sliding over it.
"The names of the planet and the Vulcan," she asked him once more, this time with an edge of annoyance to her voice, "I promise it'll stop when you've told me what I need to know."
When Nova refused to answer, one of the guards stepped forward and smacked his armoured fist across the admiral's face. The force of the blow sent him careening into the cell's sole piece of furniture: a stone bench. A sickening cracking sound was heard as he smashed his right shoulder into the edge of the bench.
T'Ress snarled at her guard and in one fluid motion slid his throat with her knife. The guard was dead before his body splashed onto the wet deck. Eyes spitting fire, she glared at her other guard, who dared not say anything lest she kill him too in her fury. Next she moved over to the admiral, who to her surprise had not uttered a sound despite the fact that he was obviously in pain.
She admired that in her prisoner and she wondered whether he was ignoring the additional agony, or was simply not feeling it due to the amount of pain he was already experiencing. T'Ress knelt before him and carefully lifted his chin up with the tip of her blade. Any sudden move on his part would result in his throat being cut. "I am sorry for that," she said sweetly, "my guard has paid for that with his life. Now, get me the information I need, and this will all be over."
~~ Vesuvius ~~
Sonak leaned back in her seat and smiled softly at her CMO. "I am certain that I can manage to meditate on my own," she assured him, "but now we have other worries. We need to get this tracking device working. Perhaps you can assist Commander Byrne? I am certain he could use some medical insight on this matter."

With that, Byrne downloaded the information to the commadore's desktop and left to rejoin Fox in Engineering. Just as Byrne was about to enter the lift, though, Hedin excused himself from a conversation with the helmsman when he saw that Sonak and Byrne had emerged from their meeting. The doctor quickly approached the chief engineer and asked if he had a moment to spare.
"Sure, a few moments, Doctor...Hedin, I believe? Pleased to meet you, incidentally." Byrne extended his hand in greeting.
Hedin, relieved, returned the greeting. "For me as well, Chief; welcome aboard. Regarding the data received from General K'Thor, may I have a look at your results? I have some familiarity with the covert signalling methods used by the Order of the Black Tal-Opal, and could identify whether either the transponder code or the DNA trace conform to those methods. At the very least, I'll find out exactly what life-form that DNA comes from."
Byrne handed him the PADD he was holding. "Great idea, Doctor...if you need anything else from me, I'll be in Engineering. As soon as you can isolate the origin of that DNA trace, get the data down there. We'll be working on converting the deflector array to send a modified signal based on that trace. Good luck..."

Seeing the doctor coming at him, Byrne threw his hand out and shook the doctor's hand vigoriously. "Doctor, I have been sorry that I avoided you upon my boarding the vessel, but here is what I have so far. As far as the Falconian issue, I saw something on the Commadore's desk about a PADD with some wierd icons on it. Did she share anything about that with you? Cause personally, if it is what I think it is, you might be my newest ally in gaining favor of the Commadore, seeing I am the old newbie here". After handing the PADD to the doctor, Byrne headed to the Engineering deck to start deligating personnel to the new assignments handed down from the Commadore. Lingering in the back of his mind was the whole 'bird language' and the wierd icons on the PADD on the commadore's desk. Why did it seem so familar, he kept thinking. "That's it", he yelled. Running to the nearest console, he started punching in requests for the specs on the PADD that was beamed to the bridge earlier. Seeing a bunch of symbols showing up on the screen, Byrne rerouted them to the navigational subsystems and fed the information dialogs to creating a new routine for the long-range sensors to find Nova. Tapping his badge, =^=, "Commadore, you had it all along, the secret to finding Admiral Nova, sorry to pry, but I think the systems will be online in a matter of hours". -Tag Sonak-

Nova lay on the floor of his cell hugging the stone bench and wishing he was younger. His face was bloody and his body felt broken. He knew he must not reveal the planet’s name too easily or she might not take the bait. However he also must not push her to the point of rendering him unable to escape.
“Well T’Ress if I was younger I might think you were initiating Klingon foreplay,” Nova said still with a bent smile about him.
“I guarantee you would not survive if we had such an encounter Admiral,” she barked in a commanding voice.
Nova was very close to passing out but he first must give her the planet’s name and hope that K’Thor or Starfleet would somehow find him SOON!
T’Ress seemed to be weakening, Duke thought and soon she would be putty in his hand… his mind was thinking just before T’Ress reminded him she was still waiting for an answer.
“Speak how or die!” she said with a smile of intent as she pressed her blade ever harder against his throat.
“OK…ALRIGHT…I have had enough,” Nova’s weak voice uttered.
She got right down in his face and demanded, “Tell me quickly.”
Nova coughed and looked up with his eyes barely open and motioned for her to come closer as he spoke very softly, “T’Ress your mouth wash isn’t getting it.”
T’Ress jerked back in a rage of anger and raised her knife to cut him down. She suddenly stopped herself when Nova uttered the planet’s name.
“Tiburon, the name is Tiburon,” Duke whispered just before he fell unconscious.
T’Ress turned away thinking, “I knew I would break you Admiral Duke Nova.”
T’Ress could not help but think that Nova was a worthy opponent for a human. T’Ress paused at the door and glanced back as she left his cell thinking that she would have more fun with him later.

Fox sat in a chair on the bridge of Discordia. The main screen showed Tiburon around which they were in orbit. A comm channel has been set up to Minerva.
"And what do we do now?" Fox asked Harper, who was in command because Sonak was in her readyroom. "Stay here and wait." Harper replied. "Ah my favorite activity." Fox said with some sarcasm. "But..." Harper continued "she made clear we have to remain cloaked all the times." Fox nodded in acknowledgement.
In the mean time Logan had begun with the deflector modifications. Not much later calling Fox to astrometrics to conduct a small test of the enhancements.

"Commodore, you had it all along, the secret to finding Admiral Nova, sorry to pry, but I think the systems will be online in a matter of hours."
Sonak sat up, being suddenly awakened from a brief slumber. "What?" she called, after remembering to tap her combadge, "where did I have it all along then commander?" She looked around, a little embarassed at having nodded off while on duty but nobody seemed to have noticed the little slip of their commanding officer.
She wondered what he was babbling on about, but then the second part of his line caught her attention. "Well done commander!" she called, then motioned for Harper to signal Mercury that soon they would be able to track Nova.
Then she tapped her combadge. "Sonak to Hedin, have you found anything about the DNA tracer yet? I only just now remembered that we should have DNA from the admiral on file, perhaps that can provide some insight in the situation?"
"ETA on Mercury is a few hours ma'am," Harper reported, "they're on their way."
"Good," Sonak responded, "I need ensign Maverick to report on his marine progress. With Lieutenant Brandy unable to perform due to that unfortunate accident he had on the holodeck during training, I need Maverick to lead the extraction team. Though, I have the feeling that we may not see this happen as we expected."
She turned around to look at Harper as much as her current condition allowed her to. "After all, why would we need to be here at Tiburon, if not for the fact that the admiral may even be delivered to us? I have the feeling also, that the answer may be in the admiral's DNA, and the Falconian message that K'Thor sent us." She frowned. "I hope to hear from Commander Hawk soon...if the doctor and chief engineer cannot work this out."
"I should have paid more attention in language class," she murmured as she leaned back in her seat again. "I rather dislike having to wait, but right now, wait we must."
~~Klingon Vessel~~
T'Ress hurried to the bridge, leaving the single guard to watch over her now unconscious prisoner. He was in a bad shape but T'Ress wasn't going to do much about that. "Feed him when he wakes up," she ordered, then sneered at the guard. "Gagh is all he'll have, if he chooses not to take the food, force-feed him. We don't want him to die on us. And be careful, I've heard Starfleet Admirals can be sneaky individuals. I expect this one to be no different."
With that, she departed and hurried to the bridge. "Set course for Tiburon, maximum speed. And if our cloakingdevice so much as fails, it'll be on your life!"
The navigator cowered and acknowledged the orders. "We'll be there in six hours," he responded, "at maximum speed, but we'll be straining the engines of this old barrel!"
"Do it," T'Ress ordered, as she sat down in the centre seat, "soon the Federation's secrets shall be hours!"

In the Medical Lab, Hedin worked silently alongside Nurse Gale to decode the mystery left by the DNA trace. Their initial results were somewhat baffling, though they had at least confirmed the theory that this was a type of covert signalling method, one of several known for its use by the Order of Black Tal-Opal. The baffling part was that the DNA itself did not entirely conform to that of Admiral Nova's. Certain sequences in the genetic code had seemingly been removed and substituted with a form of avian DNA that computer records couldn't recognize.
Calling up the results of Commander Byrne's analysis, Hedin found the answer; these avian DNA sequences conformed to the pattern of the Falconian transponder frequency. Suddenly, it began to make sense, and he chided himself for not realizing it sooner, particularly given his familiarity with the method involved. Someone, either the Admiral himself or those who held him prisoner, had extracted digital information from a computer, encoded it in the form of specific (and well-hidden) DNA sequences, injected the Admiral with those new sequences, and made him a carrier of secret information. Whether this was a willing act on his part, or the result of a violation of his person by his captors, would likely be determined by the contents of the encoded message.
Looking again over the result of the DNA scan, Hedin also realized that this avian genetic material might well be Falconian in origin, given the information obtained by Commander Byrne, and could be deciphered in the same way the transponder was. Quickly compiling a visual record of the DNA sequences and transferring them to his PADD, he thanked Gale for her help and released her to other duties. As he headed for the turbolift to the bridge, Hedin received a call from the Commodore.
"Sonak to Hedin, have you found anything about the DNA tracer yet? I only just now remembered that we should have DNA from the admiral on file, perhaps that can provide some insight in the situation?"
"Indeed I have, ma'am, perhaps a vital clue as to the Admiral's whereabouts. The DNA trace contains some kind of encoded message which we'll have to translate. I'll explain further when I reach the bridge..."

“Get out get out! They’re coming back!”
“We can’t get past the lockout”
She knew everyone was looking at her to work more quickly, but she couldn’t manage it, she just couldn’t.
“They’re here, they’re here.”
She could hear weapons fire behind her, as well as screams for help. She was still frozen.
Lucy Kanz woke up with a start. This wasn’t the first nightmare like this, far from it in fact. The pressure had started to get to her and it was only the fear of failure that was keeping her going. She had to keep going. The people relying on her were also the people she relied on. The fine balance couldn’t be tipped far in either direction.
She got up and looked around to confirm her thoughts that everyone else was asleep. In the corridor outside, she tried to access a computer panel. As per usual, her ID code didn’t work straight away. The security for her was kept at the same level as anyone who happened to walk onto the ship. Every few days it was increased to make it more difficult to get into. This kept the ship secure, but also gave her the chance to practise hacking into a system.
Once she’d finally gained access she got the information she was looking for. Her heart sank. It was going to be quite a while before they docked at another starbase. And Lucy had no chance of sending anyone a message until they did.

This was definitely a first. Ed Tanner, the Ruler of Research, hadn't been able to find something. And at the next console, Jamie Collins, the Codes King, was also empty handed. It had been a long shot, but the pair really wanted to help out. This message had seemed like the perfect way to.
The door to Science Lab 3 opened and Sam walked in, looking rather flustered for someone who had nothing to do. "Enjoying your jobs, guys?" He asked.
Jamie looked a little confused. Ed explained to him in a low voice, "Maintenance and repairs, ship's obviously working for once. Needs something to keep his mind off things."
"Yes I can hear you"
Ed smiled, "So you can hear that I'm right then. How long has it been now since you heard from your girlfriend?"
Sam narrowed his eyes, "She's not my girlfriend." he replied automatically before pausing for a second, "And 4 weeks."
Still not a complete part of the loop, Jamie was now confused about a different topic. The day he could fully understand a conversation between Sam and Ed was still a long way off apparently. "How about when this shift's over we borrow Jason's network records and have a laugh at the rest of the ship?"
There were nods and murmurs of approval in reply. Which was actually an extremely positive response.
"I'll see you later then, once I've gone to tell Commander Fox about our lack of research."
After Jamie had left the room, Ed turned to Sam, "He's actually a pretty good friend now, you know. I'd trust him with my life."
Sam grinned for a split second, "Tell him about Carrie yet?"
"Not a chance"
"Thought not." There was a beeping noise. "Yes! The rescue team want their equipment checking over. Might even get to hear what they have planned!"
Maybe things weren't so bad after all.

[Mercury’s bridge]
Trey dropped the mercury out of warp and had It orbit a small forest moon as they awaited the arrival of the Minerva. As he sat in his chair he could not help think about there up and coming rescue of admiral nova. A prospect he felt very pleased about. He thoughts bounced around in his head till he could take them no more. He needed a way to let off a bit of the excitement and the holodeck just wouldn’t cut it this time round. He gazed at the view screen and the little forest moon on it. Maverick then turned to nick and asked
“Permission to take my team on an away training mission sir”
Nick pealed his eyes of his data padd and steered at the young Ensign for a moment
“Is there some thing wrong with the holodeck” nick asked
“No sir… I just think that we should take this time and opportunity to train in a live environment… sir”
Nick gazed at him and smiled
“Ok ensign I get… you may go, but you have two hours”
“Aye sir!” and with that trey left the bridge and headed to the locker room.
[locker room]
The door slid open and trey walked in with a very large grin on his face, chazz turned to face him and asked.
“so why the big smile rookie”
“well it time to take our training to the next level”
“ and what do you mean by next level” chazz asked with a bit of dread in his voice
“ok team get your stuff ready, we’re heading planet side”
more to come soon

Leaving the bridge he headed down to the brig to meet their new captive. Word was that it was an Orion who had the Vesuviette in his possession. How had he gotten it and why was he on a Klingon ship, let alone who was on the Klingon ship with him. Questions he would soon answer.
The doors parted and a security guard nodded at his arrival. He stepped up to the force field and looked into the cell. The large Orion was laying on his side facing away from the force field.
"Whatever you want I ain't giving you Starfleet," the Orion said not turning his head. Nick immediatly recognised the voice and smiled.
"Who said I wanted anything?"
"Thats the only reason you'd be here. Ask questions, never take any action. It's what Starfleet does best," Breck still didn't roll over to face Nick.
"Ah but thats where you're wrong Breck. You assumed that just because you're on a Starfleet ship that I, who stand before this force field, am a Starfleet officer."
At the mention of his name Brecks ear perked up and he opened his eyes. He immediatly started trying to remember if he'd said his name at all since his capture. The only answer he came up with was No. That meant this Starfleet knew him, not good. By this point Nick noticed the Orion stirring so he stepped back into the shadows.
Breck stood up and glared towards the force field.
"How did you know who I am? I'm not in any Starfleet database, there is no trace of who I am anywhere. How do you know?!" he stepped up to closer to the force field drawing his hands into fists.
"Who I am does not matter. All you need to worry about now is how I know you. Now answer me this, who was on the Klingon ship?"
Breck laughed at the voice in the shadows.
"You think that shadow games will scare me Human? Trying to get into my head with one of your psycological games? Well nice try, not working."
"Thats where you're wrong Breck. I am in your head, remember Tau Ceta 4?"
Brecks eyes widened at the mention. On Tau Ceta 4 a couple of Tandaran Cadets had been captured by the Sindicate. He'd been put in charge of them, only to have them turn out to be strong telepaths. Get in his mind they did. After the encounter he bought a special helmet to ward off any telepathic communication, only he wasn't wearing it right now.
"Who are you?" Breck asked shakily.
"Your worst nightmare," Nick replied stepping out of the shadows. The large Orion screamed, hit the deck, and curled up in the corner.
"Oh god, oh god, oh god," he started rocking himself in the corner. "Thats she got mad at me. I had brought the Vesuvius, now I know why. Thats why she shot me out of an air lock. I got careless, foolish. Stupid Breck, stupid Breck," he kept rocking himself, his mental state had instantly crashed.
"The mistress was there wasn't she."
Breck started shaking and sobbing. "Push me out an airlock she did. Stupid Breck! Stupid!"
"What did she want Breck?"
"I don't know," the Orion sobbed.
"Yes you do, don't make me get into your head again. You know how much fun it was last time," Nick grinned. The security team behind him looked at each other in awe as they had never seen someone break a prisoner with words before. Breck screeched at the idea of Nick probing his mind again.
"Alright alright she was looking for information. About an Admiral Nova. She wants to find him. Only information I could find was a planet name."
"What planet?"
"Some back water, arm pit place called Tiburon."
Nicks back straightened at the mention. He rushed out into the hall and down towards the turbolift. Hitting his combadge he ordered red alert just as the doors closed behind him.

"Indeed I have, ma'am, perhaps a vital clue as to the Admiral's whereabouts. The DNA trace contains some kind of encoded message which we'll have to translate. I'll explain further when I reach the bridge..."
"Keep at it doctor," Sonak responded as she leaned back in her seat, casting yet another puzzled glance at her PADD.
Just then, the OPS assistant, Lieutenant Commander Thorad leaned forward. "Ma'am, I've got an incoming transmission from outpost Gaccan, they're just on the Federation/Klingon border."
"Go on," Sonak suggested, as she motioned for him to come down to the command level. She wasn't in any condition to keep turning around halfway to look up at the COO.
"Message was encoded, priority level one ma'am," Thorad continued, "it's for your eyes only."
"Spill it commander, it is not as though there are many prying ears about on the bridge right now."
"Yes ma'am," the Andorian continued, "it says that whoever kidnapped Nova will bring him to Tiburon, to be subjected to a mindmeld by a Vulcan Master who supposedly lives there in solitude."
This caused Sonak to raise an eyebrow at the COO assistant. "Has the source been verified, is this message genuine?"
"Yes ma'am," Thorad confirmed, "and I suspect this master is you ma'am."
"No kidding," Sonak replied, in a very unVulcan fashion. "Contact the senior staff, insofar possible. Did you not just mention that Mercury has entered the system? Yes? Good, have all senior staff report to briefingroom one in ten minutes. It seems we have work to do."
~~ ten minutes later ~~
Sonak gazed at each of her staff members, insofar they had been able to attend. "We need to build a sanctuary," she started, as she played a record of the eyes-only message Thorad had given her earlier. "Trey, John, I want your marines to guard me as I assume the role of this master. You are to use sensormasks to shroud your presence but you are not to act until I say so, no matter what happens or whether you think I may be in danger."
She smiled weakly. "With you around, I doubt I shall be in danger at any time. "Logan, Phloyd, what is the progress on this DNA tag? Long range sensors have picked up something, approximately six hours away and heading in our direction. Logan I need you to work with Nick and Sarah, set up a sanctuary as quickly as possible, but also make it appear as though it has been there for a long time. Make sure it fits the nature of this...assignment."
Sonak swallowed; she didn't want to be on her own in a cramped building, especially not in a room without windows and the only exit being a doorway without a proper door. She knew her crew would look after her no matter what, but she had the admiral's safety to put first. "I shall be in my quarters to prepare for my role in this...page me when you are ready."
~~ Klingon Vessel, one hour later ~~
T'Ress paged the bridge of her vessel; they were on their way to Tiburon, the planet the admiral had mentioned before passing out.
=^=T'Ress this is K'Iare, your prisoner is waking up...what shall I do?=^=
"Do nothing," T'Ress instructed, "but watch him. Call me the minute he starts to speak and record anything he says. If he's hungry or thirsty, you've got my instructions."
K'Iare gazed inside the cell, watching as the admiral stirred. "Understood," he replied as he stepped closer to the bars of the cell. "Welcome back," he sneered at the prisoner, "had a good sleep?"

As they got nearer to the Vesuvius, L'Ola started to feel a little queasy. She had been determined enough to go AWOL in the first place, and she certainly had the determination to want to see this through. But this was the part that she couldn't cope with. Having to go back and explain what they were up to, and more importantly why.
"I can't do it." she said suddenly. "I can't tell her. How can I do this?"
She spun round in circles on her seat to let out some of her frustration. Luckily Reman was in the back sleeping, she dreaded to think what his comments would be.
Half an hour of Vulcan meditation cleared her mind a little. Enough to realise that it was going to do no good panicking now. Just remember which bits could be general knowledge and which bits had to stay secret. Completely secret.
An alarm sounded to say that they were now within close sensor range of the Vesuvius. "Jared, get in here. We're about to be fried."
The door opened immediately, "Was already on my way."
L'Ola smiled very unconvincingly, "Good luck to both of us then."
For such a small, boring room, the brig was surprisingly comfortable. Almost made you wonder what the point of getting out of there and back to the paperwork was. Although, as L'Ola thought to herself, not everyone had the luxury of company. Plus it could be boring in a few days *Not that I really want to be here that long*.
She sat back and tried to relax. At least no one had fired on them. And Sonak had been too busy to visit so far. A hormonal Vulcan in those circumstances was a very scary prospect...
Still, it was important that they were visited so that L'Ola could explain things. But it had to be to the right person. She closed her eyes.
~ Nick are you there? ~ There was no response. ~ Nick where are you? I know you can hear me. I'm really sorry for not telling you about this earlier. Just give me a chance to explain ~
There was still no answer, but she knew he had the message. And with any luck he would be down to talk at some point. She turned to Jared and made sure she spoke quietly, "Before we get our lectures and interrogations, could you go over exactly what we need from the ship? I just want to get this clear in my head."

After mulling over the layouts inastrometrics, Byrne kept turning down locations for the 'santuary', which needed to be built as soon as possible to pull off the ruse of the vulcan master's dwelling. About an hour later, he screamed, "Eureka, by jove I think it can be done." Turning quicly to the dropped jaw looks from the other senior staff, he grabbed his Padd and headed to the material stores warehouse on Deck 7 to see how much raw storage was available. Arriving at the storage locker, he found only 15% of it full. Discouraged, he tapped his comm badge and called to the FO, "Commander, I have of need of two shuttle crafts, with modified XR arrays and particle enhancers. I have found the perfect location for the santuary, but I am going to need to modify the existing landscape into the structure. Beaming down to location within 15 minutes, with Maverick and a couple of grunts to protect and survey the area. Byrne out." Heading up to the main computer terminal, Byrne entered Holodeck 1 to create the main structure layout and transmitted the specs to the transporter arrays under the ship. Running down to the shuttle bay to load the modifications, Byrne stopped by the medical bay to update Dr. Hedin on the messages he had translated from the information he was able to obtain from the falconian database. "Dr. Hedin, I found that if you use a special set of harmonics, like those that birds use to fly by, I believe you can reset the transponder inside the DNA tag and it will send out the homing beacon we need to track the admiral. Here is key algorythms for the sets found in the linguistic database for avain mammals. Good luck, keep me aprised, gotta go, job to do." --<Tag Sonak>--

"Sir we're picking up a ship on the edge of our sensor range. It's displaying some rather odd characteristics for a diplomatic shuttle. Transponder isn't registering in the system."
"Lay in a course, maintain cloak."
Seconds later the Vesuvius caught up with the diplomatic shuttle. She dropped cloak just aft of the little ship and a tractor beam locked on stopping the shuttle from going anywhere.
"Sensors indicate two life-forms. Both matching our missing crew members."
Nick looked up in half surprise and frowned.
"Beam them to the brig. Tell the duty officers to turn off the lights in the whole brig except the cell the prisoners are transported to."
"We've got them sir," the on duty ops officer reported.
"Bring us back to Tiburon. I'll be down in the brig. When we get back send and update to Sonak. Thanks Christine."
"No problem sir."
~~
Nick stood around the corner from the cell which contained Reman and L'Ola. L'Ola had attempted to contact him a couple moments earlier, contact which he accepted but blocked her from detecting his presence. He kept listening, Reman was apparently slightly peaved that they had been caught. L'ola must have been driving. He smiled to himself as the old saying about woman drivers crossed his mind.
"Could you two keep it down in there?" Breck called over from the other cell. "I'm trying to get some sleep here and all you can do is chatter," apparently he was meaning L'Ola as Reman hadn't said a word.
L'Ola sat back against the wall and sighed. ~Come on Nick. I know you can hear me.~
He moved closer to the fringe of the shadows.
"Indeed I can. Start talking."
"Oh great. I'm not going to get any sleep now," came the lament from Breck. Nick turned around and scolded him.
"Breck I suggest you shut up or I'm coming in there."
"Yes sir," came the quivering response.
"Spill it," Nick continued, crossing his arms and stepping into the light.

'Before we get our lectures and interrogations, could you go over exactly what we need from the ship? I just want to get this clear in my head.' Jared was still annoyed that Kanz had been so slow on the accelerator to escape the module. Even without the active sensors on, as soon as the ship decloaked the Lady Verander could outrun it short distance because it didn't need to mess about with warp fields. Jared wondered if he should point out the other problem of the Lady's drive system; without the warp field distorting relativity, all the usual laws of time remained for the occupants. That was how Venturers who didn't want to use the Jump Zone could afford to travel the time between their territories and the various destinations. As he readied to answer Kanz's pointedly expectant silence, Martens stepped out of the shadows outside the cell and demanded that Kanz start talking. Jared assumed that Kanz and Martens had been having a silent conversation for at least some time now. He checked his watch; the silent alarm wasn't set to go off for another few hours yet. 'Spill it' Martens demanded of them. Jared just stayed silent; the spilling was for Kanz to do, not him.

~Finally some good news~ Sonak thought, after she had discovered that the shuttle Mercury had picked up had contained her security/tactical and operations chiefs. "Throw them in the brig," she had ordered, "I will deal with them when this all is over."
Yet she had also instructed her first officer to try and talk to them, though she had made it clear she would have a stern talking to them when the situation was resolved.
Now, the CMO reported that the sensors were ready to be activated, so that they could lock on to the transponder. "Do it," the Vulcan ordered, sitting up a little straighter in her seat, her eyes flicking to Thorad. "Report sensor input," she ordered.
<Hedin or Byrne please take Thorad>
She tapped her combadge to re-establish contact with Hedin and Byrne. "Well done gentlemen. Commander what is the status on the sanctuary? Sensors have now picked up a cloaked vessel, ETA 5 hours. We have to hurry, I have to be down there before they arrive and find some time to meditate at the location. Meditating before beaming down is a futile exercise."
Again she tapped her combadge. "Security to the bridge, we need someone to keep an eye on inbound vessel. Commander Martens, bring Mercury to red alert. Commander Fox, with Commander Byrne busy, take command of Discordia. Go to red alert also. We shall keep Minerva at yellow alert for now."
<Martens/Fox>
She had forgotten the fact that Mercury already was on red alert, and frowned when her first officer alerted her to that information. The Vulcan frowned in response; she couldn't recall ever having been this forgetful. "Thank you for alerting me commander, I do not know what has come over me lately."
She saw the Tandaran first officer snigger to that comment, but she chose not to act upon it. Surely it was nothing. But when the baby kicked her again with such force that it made her gasp, she suddenly understood his snigger and she smiled softly in return.

Commander Fox, with Commander Byrne busy, take command of Discordia. Go to red alert also. We shall keep Minerva at yellow alert for now." Fox was in one of the labs, monitoring the progress of the cloaked inbound vessel when he received Sonak's call. "Aye Ma'am." he responded and while he tabbed a few buttons on his console he said "Fox out.". Then he tabbed a last button rerouting the readings of his console to Discordia's bridge and walk to the exit. After a short walk through the corridors he stood in front of the turbo lift. He had to wait there for a little while before the lift arrived. When the doors opened he saw some officers in it and greeted them friendly. "Bridge." Fox ordered as the doors closed behind him. The lift took off, making a soft humming sound. Before the lift arrived at the bridge it stopped on deck 15, where the other officers with him got out. Then the lift continued its way to the bridge. When it stopped the doors slid open and Fox stepped out. On a part of the main screen he saw the readings he routed here. He sat down in his chair and called "Go to red alert." Immediately red lights began blinking throughout the whole module, indicating they were on red alert. Fox looked again at the readings on the screen. "3 hours to go." he thought loud.

Hawk received Commodore Sonak’s message with some extreme time lag. Hawk’s ship was at the extreme limits of their patrol zone in the Alpha quadrant, quite some distance from the Beta quadrant and the Vesuvius. Hawk managed to reroute his sub-space reply through some abandon alien comm relays in order to communicate with the Vesuvius without that large time delay.
“Captain! You are receiving a message from Commander Hawk,” informed Lieutenant Commander Thorad, “It is coming in with a Starfleet priority code and scrambled.”
“Put on the viewer Commander,” instructed Sonak.
“Sorry Captain but he is requesting to speak to you, our chief engineer and our CMO only,” Thorad explained.
“Very well commander, patch it through to my ready room and have our CEO and CMO report there on the double,” Sonak ordered. “Harper you have the bridge.”
Sonak entered her ready room and sat at her chair thinking about what her crew might want to learn if possible from Commander Hawk and why he requested only the three of them. The logic of it escaped her but she believed all would be revealed soon enough.
Just then the two officers arrived at her ready room and she commanded them to enter.
“I have a message from Commander Hawk and he requested that only we three be present for the play back. I do hope we learn why and get the answers we need to help us locate Admiral Nova,” Sonak informed them.
The two officers positioned themselves behind and over Sonak’s shoulder as she activated the view screen.
==^== Greetings Commodore Sonak, I am Commander Hawk and I regret the delay in replying to your message. I am sorry for all the cloak and dagger as Duke would put it but Falconian technology is so advanced that I run the risk of breaking my world’s laws in just giving you what I have. All information must be held in the highest of confidence.
However to the subject at hand, I have looked over your message information and have complied what I believe may aid you in your quest to locate my old friend Duke…ah…Admiral Nova that is. I have sent a formula encrypted in this message which might help your CEO with his effort to convert the navigational array into a receiver of sorts. A true Falconian receiver is their “head” so I do not having a working model to send you, just a theory. Just follow my guide to the letter and it should be of some help.
As for the DNA trace, that sounds just like Nova to “hide a message in a bottle” as he would put it. Many years ago when I first meet Duke he taught me how he pasted information along to fellow pilots without being detected. If you match Nova’s DNA to what he sent you, then you will find that there is more than should be there. The remaining DNA becomes a code which will reveal a message. I have sent along a decoder file which Nova gave me back then. I am very sure it will allow you too decode the DNA message.
I hope I have been of some help to you and your crew. I know Admiral Nova is in good hands. Good hunting. Hawk out.
Transmission Ends ==^==
