For the night Fox had found himself a sleeping place on shore at the docks. Sleeping on a boat would be something he had to get used to. For now he'd rather have solid ground under him.
He sat down on an improvised 'bed'. "Well..." he thought "lets hope i wake up in time." not being used getting up on his own, without any wakeup calls. He laid down, it took him a while to catch sleep. The bed wasn't that comfortable. Finally he fell asleep.
In the middle of the night he woke up again. He lifted his head wondering what woke him. "It still must be a few hours till sunrise he thought." And layed his head down trying to catch his sleep again.
Thats how he layed the rest of the night, sleepless, till it was time to get up. One of the crew members came to fetch him. He got up. Put on his clothes, which he had trouble with cause it was a bit dark. Still sleepy he walked to the Batavia and went onboard.
Standing onboard of the ship, looking around he saw not much people were present. Also Sonak was no where to be seen. "Must still be in her room onboard i guess." he thought and went below deck.
When he stood in front of the door he knocked softly on it. When he got no responce he knocked again, a little harder this time.
Softly he heard from behind the door. "Who's there?" "It's Fox. The sun should rise in an hour or so. I was looking for you to report in for another fishing day."

Sonak sat up in her bed and wiped the sleep from her eyes; she hadn't been sleeping very well and her joints were stiff from the cold. She squinted into the darkness, unable to make out Fox' form until she produced some form of light. When she had at last managed to light a lantern, she smiled softly. "You are not usually the first to report Mr Fox," she said, as she swung her legs over the edge of the bed, but kept the blanket wrapped around her. "Perhaps you could see to breakfast, while I go for a small walk around the deck to get the stiffness out of my body. I will have you know that it was freezing cold tonight."
<Fox>
The Vulcan grabbed her lantern after she had changed her attire and managed to find her footwear, then carefully climbed the steps that led towards the deck. She knew the deck would be slippery with frost and that she had to be extremely careful not to slip and slide overboard.
Sonak was so intent on her thoughts, that she nearly collided with another form. Holding up the lamp, it cast ghostly shadows on the face of her Bajoran counselor. "Ah good morning Ms Mira," she said, "I trust you slept well? You and I will have to go over some ideas to keep this crew motivated during our long sailing trip today. I am certain two counselors can come up with something to keep them entertained?"
<Mira>
ooc: everyone else...get your ah....persons back on board! Except Reman, who'll run things from the shore on his end. Also please remember the sub-plots L'Ola Kanz has sent you, you're to implement them in the main mission plot.

After yawning a bit, Fox nodded. "I know, somehow i woke up early. I'll be getting a breakfast ready then, since we have to sail off soon i take." He left her room and went to the galley to prepair breakfast for the whole crew. Not much later a bell sounded meaning the breakfast was ready in the 'mess' room. Slowly the room filled with the crew quite a lot were yawning once in a while because of the early hour. Everyone came to him to get his/her breakfast. After breakfast the room emptied quick as everyone went to their work, cause they would sail out soon.

Syal had woken up early, disturbed by the movements of the ship. She wasn’t used to such life at all and could not wait for things to be back to normal. To take her mind off her lack of sleep - lying in bed awake anymore would drive her mad - she decided to wander around again. The last time she did that she found many interesting things which gave her an insight into her fellow crewmembers.
As she made her way around the corner, she became aware of a lamp light glaring towards her. Its holder was Sonak.
"Ah good morning Ms Mira," the Vulcan said, "I trust you slept well? You and I will have to go over some ideas to keep this crew motivated during our long sailing trip today. I am certain two counsellors can come up with something to keep them entertained?"
Syal blinked a couple of times, attempting to adjust to the light. Sonak noticed and lowered it slightly, apologetically. “I slept fine, thank you.” She lied, not really bothering with such trivialities right now. “As for any ideas that I have? I’m not too sure…the main problem seems to be that everyone is isolating themselves…I’d suggest that people work in pairs? Work may be slower, but they need communication. Also if we try to keep an eye on everyone, to make sure that they’re all ok. It seems that this primitive lifestyle is not suited to us all…”
<TAG Sonak>
They heard the bell for breakfast and made their way together to the makeshift Mess hall.

"Yes, I quite agree with you," Sonak said as she carefully spooned up her breakfast. She knew already that fish for three meals a day was going to be tedious, but there was little room for alternative options; not unless Fox started baking his own bread, and would grow his own greens. "I already have the feeling everyone is going crazy," she admitted, only for the counselor to hear.
<Mira>
Once everyone had finished their breakfasts, she gave Fox a nudge. "You will have crow's nest duty this morning Fox," she told him, "by noon, Doctor Hedin will relieve you." She gazed from the science chief to the doctor, smiling at their bewildered faces.
<Hedin/Fox>
Several minutes later the small group of Starfleet officers appeared on deck, greeted by Donar who was still going to accompany them. Squinting against the rising sun, Sonak was glad that at least now she could see something again, besides just darkness. She and Donar walked up the aft deck, where Sonak was determined to take the helm. "Nick, raise the mainsail!" she shouted down to the Tandaran officer, "get L'Ola to assist you. Mira, help John get the foresail up! Once we are clear of dock, prepare to turn towards the sun, I feel we have a seaward breeze, so we shall want that in our back!"
<everyone>
She turned back to Donar and offered him a small smile. "There is nothing like steering your ship with your own hands. It has been quite some time since I have done any steering, I could use the assistance."

"Nick, raise the mainsail! Get L'Ola to assist you."
That made L'Ola laugh, but she wasn't sure why. Something in her head just didn't picture right. She soon remembered what it was.
Nick tugged on the ropes for as long as he could before he called the first officer over. The only problem was the slight height difference. A good 10 inches split the pair, and L'Ola struggled to reach up to the ropes to grab hold. She finally managed to grab on, and Nick loosened his grip to pull the ropes from further up.
That was a bit of a mistake.
L'Ola had got enough grip on the rope to stay attached to it, but standing on tip-toes wasn't the best way to stay rooted to the deck. As soon as Nick let go, the rope went shooting upwards, carrying a laughing betazoid with it.
"Okay, that wasn't supposed to happen." she laughed.
Nick managed to grab onto the ropes before they went too far, and L'Ola successfully jumped back down to the deck. "How about we try this a different way round?" She suggested.

Once everyone had finished their breakfasts, she gave Fox a nudge. "You will have crow's nest duty this morning Fox," Not sure if he'd like being up there he nodded to her and continued cleaning and putting all the things he used to make the breakfast away. When Fox walked on the deck from below deck he heard Sonak order to raise the sails. "Seems we're leaving already. Well here goes." he thought He walked to the robes that leaded to the crows nest and grabbed hold on them. At first he hesitated a bit to climb in them, having Sonaks 'dive' well in memory. After a little while he climbed in the robes and went up to the crows nest. There he looked over the ocean seeing a light gloom at the horizon. He looked down to the deck and waved, meaning he was on his spot.

Syal looked up sharply at the Vulcan, alarmed at what she had just said. ~Unfortunately, I agree with her.~ However, when she spoke she said something entirely different.
“Crazy is a bit strong, don’t you think? They’re stressed, yes, but that is to be expected in such unusual circumstances. Frankly, I’m amazed they’re together at all. But the circumstances are tenuous.”

Syal looked around, bewildered. She still hadn’t got used to life here and hoped like hell that she didn’t have to. She followed John and tried to make it look like she knew what to do…

Sonak turned to Donar and offered him a small smile. 'There is nothing like steering your ship with your own hands. It has been quite some time since I have done any steering, I could use the assistance.' 'Ah yes, well being captain often means being somewhere else whilst the helmsman steers. Speaking of which, who is your helmsman? I thought it was that one with the dark glasses but he seems to be missing.' <Sonak> 'Well we better be underway before the tides turn rough. It looks like a strong wind is coming from the way the insects act.' Time rolled by, as did the sea. After a while, the ship was in deep water heading for a particularly good island a few days off. 'Sonak, look at that' Donar pointed at the sky. What looked like a small meteor was blazing its way prettily across the sky. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
~~Vesuvius bridge~~ 'Here are the current shift divisions, sir' 'Thank you, Master Swift. Are the crew responding badly to the command crew being on the planet?' Harper asked 'No, sir. For most it's just a case of different people somewhere upstairs' 'Good, good'
'Sir, we have ascertained the sun's stage to be at the beginning of the formation stage of a red giant. It is emitting intense solar flares.' 'Thank you, Ms Amasova. Mr Bates, see if Mr Carter believes there to be any threat to the ship from them. If so, have Commander O'Malley look at our shields.' 'I'm sending him the data now, sir' Bates reported A few seconds later 'THERE'S A WHAT!?! WHY ARE WE STILL HERE!?!' was screamed over the comm in alarm 'Keep it cool, Mr Carter. What's wrong?' 'There's an unusually large and powerful solar storm headed straight for us. I've never seen one like that before' 'Ms Redshirt, take us out of orbit, ma---' A sound shuddered over the ship. It could only be described as 'whomp'
'We've lost power, sir! We're being propelled into the atmosphere by the storm.' 'All hands brace for impact!!' Harper shouted over the comm 'If we can't steer, we're going to hit the planet face on!' Redshirt shouted 'Entering atmosphere in 60 seconds. Impact in 90 seconds!' Bates added 'Engineering, give us impulse any way you can in 60 seconds!' 'We can only give you thrusters in that time!' O'Malley shouted back, then to her engineers 'redirect all power to thrusters and shields. Make sure they're up in 60 seconds.' Jenkins pounded the buttons on his console to make anything he could work. As the emergency power came on, he diverted it all to those two systems. 'I've done what I can, Commander' he reported
'We have thrusters and shields' Bates reported 'Ms Redshirt, take us in as best you can' Harper ordered 'But sir, we're heading for the ocean. If we land like this then we'll lose Discordia' 'Redshirt, take us in top down. Everyone clear the top decks!' The ship rolled into position; it was almost as a whale turning in the sea... 'In position, sir' By now the bridge was almost empty only Harper, Bates and Redshirt remained. 'I'll take her in from here, Lieutenant' 'Sorry sir, but I'm the better pilot' 'Lieutenant, that's an order. Mr Bates, clear the bridge.' 'Aye, sir' Bates said and beamed Harper off the bridge. 'You're not going too?' Redshirt asked 'It would be a terrible thing to die alone' Bates replied
The Vesuvius cut through the atmosphere like a meteor heading for the north pole. As it fell, it pulled up so that the front of the hull hit the water like a boat would. The initial impact tore holes in the front of the ship and smashed the bussards on the nacelles, but it still went on, slowing in the sea somewhat but bouncing in and out of the waves. Every bounce tore a part of the ship, most small but some large. One of the nacelles came off. Eventually, the Vesuvius struck the ice cap and the other nacelle snapped off. It careered about the ice as the reverse thrusters did what they could, eventually coming to a halt. The top decks and the nacelles were gone, the power was gone and the hull was now badly in need of repair.
Redshirt and Bates were long since dead.

“Crazy is a bit strong, don’t you think? They’re stressed, yes, but that is to be expected in such unusual circumstances. Frankly, I’m amazed they’re together at all. But the circumstances are tenuous.”
"My crew forms quite a tight group," Sonak replied, "and we have been through some pretty dangerous missions." She eyed her young counselor closely, not wanting to alienate her but she had to be told the truth. "You have not been with us for so long yet counselor," she observed, "but you are fitting in quite well. How are your own observations by interacting with them? I mean, any particular people you are close to? Anyone that you prefer to avoid?"
<Mira>
As the two women were talking, Sonak was trying to get a little more familiar with her counselor, as a person not just as a professional. The two had gone aft, so that Sonak could steer the Batavia to open sea herself. Meanwhile Donar had also entered the conversation, which now flowed into one of steering ships. Taking the ship out and making sure to keep the wind in the sails was a daunting task, but Sonak was glad to have had a little practice at it while she was younger.
Then Donar tapped her on the shoulder. 'Sonak, look at that' Donar pointed at the sky. What looked like a small meteor was blazing its way prettily across the sky.
The Vulcan squinted at the sunlight and made out an object plumeting towards the planet at a dazzling speed. She gently touched Mira's arm and pointed at the object. "Is that what I think it is?" she asked softly, so that Donar would not hear. Without awaiting an answer, she gave the counselor a nudge. "Take the wheel," she urged, then ran down the steps that led to the main deck.
<Mira>
"Nick!" she called, "L'Ola, look!" She pointed at the blazing object.

Jatan uttered a moan as he scrambled to his feet. He and the children had only had barely enough time to escape Minerva before the ship made her first ounce on Jonian ocean water. Gravity and inertial dampeners had been knocked offline, along with every other major power source.
Fortunately, he knew where to find a palmlight, even in complete darkness. "Kids?" he called.
"Daddy!" came a whimpering sound from his right. "Daddy, he's hurt!"
Jatan sped forward, to find Sevus cradling his younger brother. Green blood was adorning the boy's face and Jatan's breath caught in his throat. "I'll take care of him," Jatan told the boy, handing him a second palm light. "Go find your sisters."
The seven-year old nodded and limped away. Worried, Jatan glanced after him but with the limited recourses he had now, there was nothing much he could do. A freezing cold wind came gusting into the room and involuntarily he shivered. "Hurry!" he called after his adoptive son while he cradled the younger boy. "Seliv," he called, tapping the boy's cheek sharply, "Seliv wake up!"
The boy whimpered, but didn't close his eyes. "Son, look at me," Jatan insisted, "I need you to wake up. Don't sleep son."
He looked up when Sevus returned with his twin and their younger sister. "They're all right," Sevus announced, though all three looked horribly shaken.
"Kimi, Sevus, find us some blankets. Get as many as you can find, then wrap yourselves in it. Shanna honey, come here. I need you to talk to your twin now. You must all stay together, I'm going to have a look around and see who else survived."

"Take the wheel," Sonak urged, then ran down the steps that led to the main deck.
Totally bewildered, Syal attempted to hold onto the wheel of the ship. ~Now THIS, I wasn't trained for...~ She thought. Looking around frantically for anyone who may have an ounce more knowledge than herself, she was sorely disappointed.
She saw now as a good time to ask the Prophets to help her, even if she had given up on them long ago...~They deserted me once, they probably will do again~ She thought to herself, bitterly.
~*~
She heard a baby's cry echoing through the halls and tried to ignore it. The man - she couldn't remember his name right now - looked at her strangely, implying that she should go and tend to the child, but she refused.
"He's hungry." The man said, quietly.
"Let him starve, he's a Boryha to me anyway..." She turned away, ignoring her own tears. Why did it hurt so much? She felt a sudden lurch....
~*~
Syal blinked once, twice, and wiped a tear away. She felt the earring and wanted to tear it off and throw it into the water, but knew it would look odd if she didn't wear it. She took the look of disdain off her face and coughed self-consciously, looking around her but no one was there. Not even the Prophets.

OOC: Ok, so it crashed top down?
In the science lab Jason was busy with some science experiments when the Vesuvius entered the atmosphere of the planet. The ship shook a little, but not very much so he didn't pay much attention to it and kept experimenting. Not much later there was a loud sound.
Some time later Jason woke up in full darkness. He started feeling around him, finding that most of the equipment layed on the 'floor'. "Computer, Lights On." he said, but the lights didn't go on and the computer didn't respond.
He tabbed his comm-badge. "Carter to Harper." and waited a little time, but no responce came. He deciced to carefull crawl to the door of the Labs, but couldn't find it. It took him a while to realize he actually was crawling over the ceiling of the science lab. Then he crawled to where the door should have be and reached up, finding the door closed.
Carefully he tried to get his hands between the doors and push them open. After a while and putting great strength to it they slided open a little. Pushing harder, one side of the door went open all the way and he crawled over the top of the door and on the ceiling of the corridors.
"I must find some one." he thought. "I must know what happend." So he walked on through the corridors over the ceiling, keeping one of his hands against the wall, once in a while calling: "Anyone there?" Also looking for a hatch in the wall to get a flashlight.

L'Ola looked up at the sky and followed the blaze down to the ground. Her heart sank, they all knew what that meant.
"Sonak we have to stop looking at it. The locals think we're strange enough as it is, without obsessing over a fireball. There's nothing we can do for now."
*Except hope" she added silently, careful not to project her thoughts.
Ensign Stokes ran down the up-turned corridors. He hadn't run into the other science team leaders, so had taken a head count into his own hands. He'd found Ed Tanner near one of the research labs, and the pair had gone searching for the others.
They heard from passers by that Katia was heading in the direction of the nursery, where all the young children were said to be shaken but okay. It seemed to be their lucky day as they located the rest of their teams, although they still had no idea how bad the situation was.
The scientists made their way to science lab 1 through the rubble and managed to find Jason. Rob spoke up, "The whole department's accounted for, Sir. Any ideas what happens next?"
<OOC: Yes I know the odds of them all being ok are slim, but I want to keep all my NPCs intact for now. I have my reasons>

Nick watched the fireball stream across the sky. He quickly tied up the sail to the railing and stepped to the edge of the deck to get a better view. He noted L'Olas gaze of despare at what he too knew all to well. He quietly tapped his badge to signal the ship. No chirp, nothing, just silence.
"It was them," he whispered to Sonak. She looked at him quizzicly.
"Who?" She asked only to stop as she started to speak. A wave of panic hit her. "Oh my...." she whispered softly and looked once again at the plume of smoke going off in the distance. A low rumble reached their ears from the super-sonic speeds the fireball was going.
~~~
Sarah pulled herself out from under her chair. She coughed in the smoke from the burned out relays and charred plastic. The distinct smell of coolent filled the air. A couple lights blinked on and off, enough light to tell that the entire department was now upside down.
"Carl?" she called out, a second later she heard a groan. She found a emergency kit which had been knocked from it's place underneith a console. She flicked on the flashlight and looked around, an arm stuck out from under some paneling.
"Some help," Carl muttered, the hand waved. Sarah hopped over the ceiling beam and some debris towards his location. Together (Carl from undernieth) they lifted the piece up and Carl quickly skooted out. Sarah let the panel thud to the ground.
"Got a tricorder?" she asked him. He nodded and pulled one off his dust covered suit. He popped it open and began scanning the room.
"Main power is down, as are the Auxilury generators. Luckily the Antimatter containment generators are still online. Power grid and communications are offline though, well so is every single system on the ship, including life support. Luckily we're on the planets surface and the air is breathable."
"Any idea on how extensive the damage is?" She asked.
"We'll have to take a matinence pod out to survey."
~~~2 hours later~~~
The two engineers crawled into the matinence pod storage room. Laying on the 'floor' in front of them was their only pod. It looked fine, save the large dent in the roof. It seemed to have faired better than the ceiling and rest of the room. All the wall panels and ceiling panels were either bashed, cracked or shattered.
Carl pointed his tricorder at the workbee and activated the startup sequence. The craft powered up and lifted itself off the ground and righted itself. Sarah opened the hatch and the two climbed into the cramped craft. She used the robotic arms to open the bay doors, much easier than her and Carl forcing them manually.
Within minutes they were hovering over the ship.
"My Lord," Carl said softly as he looked at the Vesuvius. Panels were ripped off in numerous places. Both nacels had been ripped off and now lay hundreds of meters away on either side of the ship. A long trail of debris littered the long crater in the ice that the Vesuvius had made. Luckily for the crew the temperature outside on the pole at that time of year was about -3C.

'Anglique, look at that' the priest said Jared looked at where he was pointing. The colour of the blaze was unmistakable; meteors just did not carry the same chemicals as a ship did. He barely reacted; the only thing he was really bothered about on the ship was Sprite but the little robot was near indestructable for this sort of thing. The people would either survive or not, but worrying wouldn't change things either way. Besides; this wasn't the first time Jared had seen something like this happen but this time he had known in advance it was a bad idea that led them here. 'Odd, isn't it?' the priest said 'Indeed it is. Where is the monastery though?' 'Some miles ahead. The abbot should know something of what you're looking for.' 'Good, hopefully we can tell where your history actually begins then' 'Why do you even want to know where history begins?' 'Because it means a lot. I doubt you would see it the same way' The two walked onwards...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile at the Vesuvius, Swift had begun a list of the dead. So far things weren't as bad as they at first had seemed. True, the ship was in bad shape but Swift wasn't bothered about the ship. Someone had seen to giving out survival gear and as many people as possible were sheltering inside the parts of the hull that the engineers had so far declared safe. The current favourite was cargobay 4 since the shuttlebay the deck above had been removed in the crash leaving cargobay 4 on the ground level and protected by the rest of Minerva. The list itself was showing mainly injuries and survivors. Fatalities so far had been the less common circumstance. Nonetheless, the total came to about 200 dead, including the two who had stayed on the bridge, Matt Harris the CO of the recently sent Marine detachment and fortunately few of the civilians, who had been protected by their position on the ship. Most of the fatalities were in fact from the top and front of the ship so for once Discordia was the lucky one.
Swift took the list to Harper, who looked over it sadly. It had occurred to both that without Harris, someone else was going to have to take over as Marine CO. Swift also delivered another piece of news from Engineering. 'Sir, there's no power. We can't even send out a distress call. If we can recover some of the shuttles we could do something, but they can't send out a signal very far' 'We'll have to hope someone saw us then, Mr Swift. Hopefully the command crew will make their way here if they can.'

Sonak could not help but stare into the distance as she stood frozen in place, her face greenish/white with fear. ~fear is an emotion~ she tried to chide herself, but knew in advance that it would not work. She had feelings she could not deny, even though she could be a perfect Vulcan if she so desired. Fortunately for her, the Jonian workmen and -women were oblivous to the odd behaviour of the foreigners. They continued to haul in the nets, cast the contents into containers below deck and cast the nets out again.
The Batavia was now at full sea, and their catch continued to grow. Sonak however could not find any satisfaction in their goodly catch, she only had her ship and crew on her mind. ~I should have been aboard~ she thought ~a commanding officer always goes down with the ship. I did not go down with them~ Much to her relief, she still sensed her bondmate at the back of her mind, and through the link she knew at least her family had survived.
Looking around, she saw the sweaty faces of her Jonian crew and realized that they had been working hours on end without a break. They had been at see for hours now, and the glaring sun was already past it's highest point. ~they deserve a break, and a stretch of the legs~ she thought guiltily.
"Haul in the nets! she called over the wind, shouting to be heard. "Mira, set course for land!" she called towards the counselor, who had not left the wheel ever since Sonak had left her to it. She pointed to the smoking plume in the distance. "That way!" she called, hoping that it was inhabited land. From the corner of her eyes, she saw Donar shake his head in disbelief, and from his reaction she knew it had been a bad decision, but she needed to know what had happened to her ship. "Continue course Mira!" Sonak shouted, not certain whether Donar would order a course correction as he knew these waters much better than she did.
Suddenly she felt extremely tired and she allowed herself to sink to the deck. "What have we done," she whispered, "why did I leave the ship? How many would have survived, assuming the ship crashed on land?" She knew that Jatan and her children had survived somehow, but she had no way of knowing who else had. Had the ship crashed into sea, everyone would have drowned, unless they used escape pods.
<resp Donar/everyone>
~~~~
Jatan shivered and pulled the blanket closer around his shoulders and Seliv jr, who was quite ill. Without medical equipment and proper ilumination, the physician had no way of knowing the extend of the boy's illness and possible injuries. T'Kimi and Sevus alternatingly carried their younger sister, who didn't stop crying from fear and shock. Shaking his head in dismay, he lead his family through the wreckage in search of other survivors.
At last, they encountered Commander Harper, who was in company of several other survivors. The commander looked pale and drawn, and Jatan knew by just looking at him that he was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Handing his son to one of the other survivors, he pulled Harper away from the little group. "Sit down," he ordered, "before you fall down. Tell me, what happened up there?"
Harper sat down on the deck, or ceiling...he wasn't even sure what to call whatever he was standing on. The ship seemed to be lying upside down, but in the darkness, every shadow was as creepy as they could come, and he had no way of telling which way was up. "I don't know," he confessed, rubbing his eyes tiredly, "one minute we were just fine, the next we were plumeting towards this planet. Janice, I mean Lieutenant Redshirt insisted on piloting the ship and had me beamed out. It should've been me, lying dead on the bridge, not her." He buried his face into his hands and sobbed quietly. "It should've been me," he repeated.
Jatan didn't respond to that and quitly rubbed his chief's shoulder. "It wasn't your fault," he insisted, "and you are the ranking officer now, "Janice did the right thing, and she was the only one who could've gotten us in as we did, thereby ensuring the survival of most crewmembers. Let's remember her for her bravery, and mourn her properly when we are ready for it. Right now we have a job to do. Assess the damage, see what we can do to get repairs going, and hope that the command team gets to us soon."
Mark nodded wearily. "I suppose," he said, though he didn't feel very optimistic. He had a sick feeling in his stomach and he was dizzy. "For now I'll just sit here for a bit," he managed, then bent sideways and threw up violently.
"I'll go see if anyone's injured of our little band here," Jatan offered, "I'll be back with you soon."
The priests had a vow not to let anyone close to the center of why they were here. No one was to know the origins of the in habitants of this planet. No one. That was why she was doing what she was.
She stealthily climbed over the fence where some trees had overgrown. Easy enough considering the alternative of climbing a concrete wall with spikes on it. She dropped to the ground with a soft thud and looked around before standing up. There was technology somewhere here, she just had this feeling.
A loud rumbling filled her ears from above. She looked up through the trees to see a blazing fireball plummet to the earth and disapear in the distance.
Around noon Hedin came climbing to the crow's nest.
"Whats going on?" Fox asked, having noticed they didn't change course back to the dock, but instead went seawards. Hedin explained that Sonak wanted to go to the islands where the smoke came from, pointing into that direction.
"I hope everyone is alright." Fox said, by now having figured out it wasn't a meteor, but the Vesuvius going down. Hedin nodded "Me too."
Fox went to the edge of the crow's nest, grabbing the robes. "Well good luck up here." he said "I'll be needed in galley again to make lunch" hearing his own stomach rumble. Carefully he climbed down, being happy when he reached the deck again.
There is saw Sonak sitting on the deck, a bit pale looking. He could imagine what was going through her mind, since he had commanded the previous Vesuvius. He walked to her and put a hand on her shoulder. Whispering "Come inside, to the mess room. I'll prepair lunch for everyone, so we can't go on our rescue 'mission' with all out strength."
He got up again and went to the galley, making lunch, which mainly contained some of the fish they'de caught so far.
Ana had watched the Batavia with her strange new owners prior to taking a job on board, just to be close. They had no idea what they were doing, that much was obvious. These people needed watching, for their own good. This was exactly the sort of things she'd been trained for and knew how to handle.
She'd been genetically altered over a year before and sent to observe the planet and her peoples development to decide rather further contact was warranted. With the arrival of these strangers, who weren't who they seemed at all and whose words were strange to most but not to her gave her reason to be concerned. Ana was quick to join in on their adventure to keep tabs on them and to make sure nothing ruined her mission in the meantime.
With the appearance of the meteor and the fact their leader seemed somewhat unsettled she felt it was time to act. She moved about the deck doing her duties and keeping out of the way of the strangers for the most part, but close enough to listen in. They certainly were interesting in their speech and their actions and she had seen through their disguise almost immediately.
With these thoughts she sidled up to their leader and sat down next to her. "Penny for your thoughts Ma'am." Ana said in perfect Vulcan .. she said it in a low whisper so NO ONE ELSE could hear them talk. There was no easy way to initiate contact with the obvious imposters so took the more direct route. Let the questions come later, right now seemed to be a good time to let her own ruse and impersonation be seen by those who could get her off this rock .. hopefully.
OFF: Keep in mind she looks/acts etc in every aspect like the locals ... there is no way to tell her apart from the rest.
'Continue course Mira!' Sonak shouted, not certain whether Donar would order a course correction as he knew these waters much better than she did. 'I assume you want to go and look at the object that fell. I wouldn't since it will take several weeks sailing into cold waters to reach it. If you want to crew to go, you're going to have to pay a lot for it.' <Sonak> 'We can always leave those who do not want to go at Frei-Anglique' Donar pointed out 'What is that?' Sonak asked as inconsequentially as she could Donar was surprised until he considered that not everyone would have travelled as far as the sailors. True, Donar himself had not ever actually been there, but he had been to Angliqua before. In all honesty he didn't find it so cultured as Frenque but it was similar enough that he could feel at home there too. 'It is the most northern town there is. Some of your crew sound like they might be from there. Who knows, they might end up staying too.' <Sonak>
Donar went up to the helm and took the wheel from Mira. 'There are strange currents and winds ahead. The more experienced crew should deal with this.' Then he shouted to the crew 'Enri, Jeun, Mishal; we are to take the helm ourselves from now. You better go and rest now; we'll run 6 hour shifts each until we reach the Freije.' There were mixed reactions from the crew on the news that they were going towards the far North, but Donar settled them with a simple gesture. 'You shall be paid well for the trip. Anyone who does not wish to go can leave when we stop at Frei-Anglique for supplies.'
The time passed. They passed Frei-Anglique, left some crew and picked up others. Donar was surprised none of Sonak's crew left too. But he wasn't being paid to analyse strange behaviour and so eventually they reached the Freije. There wasn't anything to see; just ice and snow all around. 'I bid you farewell then, Sonak. Your equipment is being loaded onto the sleds as we speak. Good luck looking for your artefact.' The sleds in question were about 6' by 2' and pulled by two people and pushed by two others. There were two of them and each was as full as it could be. The eight Starfleet crew took the sleds, wrapped up in gear that Jacobson would have been perfectly at home in. It occurred to Sonak that he had left one mission too early...
The Batavia had been left with orders to wait for two weeks where it was and then if nothing more was heard, head home assuming the expedition were dead.
ooc: this post may grow in length during the day (modifications) as I come up with more ideas...I'm going in order of response to posts as follows: Fox, Ana, Reman. Everyone please bridge time between Fox/Ana's posts and that of Reman, as his ends several days/weeks later. We need to wrap the sailing part to start a bridging time for the Hepta/VES joint mission...
ic:
Sonak felt a reassuring hand on her shoulder, though she nearly shrugged it off. Like many Vulcans, she didn't like to be touched, though of course there were certain exceptions. She remembered the comforting touch of her husband Jatan, but also her late husband Seliv, her brother Nathan and her closest friend, Admiral MC7of9. She looked up at Fox as she heard him speak softly. "Come inside, to the mess room. I'll prepare lunch for everyone, so we can't go on our rescue 'mission' with all out strength."
She knew what he meant even though it sounded a little odd to her the way he said it. Quietly, she nodded. "I will be with you shortly commander," she answered, not even realizing she had addressed him by rank rather than name. "I just need to clear my mind a little." She cast him a weak smile and he nodded in response before disappearing below-deck.
The Vulcan continued to sit on the deck, resting her face on her hands as she peered into the distance. Her thoughts were with the crew that had been aboard the ship, and the lack of response when Nick had tried to contact them, told her that the situation was grave. She was so lost in her thoughts that she literally jumped when she heard a female voice speak in perfect Vulcan. "Penny for your thoughts Ma'am." There was, on her senior staff, only one other woman who spoke Vulcan and she was certain L'Ola would not speak Vulcan before an entire alien crew which was supposed to believe that they too were of their kind.
Startled, she looked around and gazed into the face, not of her first officer, but of a Jonian female. "You speak Vulcan?" she asked in the same language, not caring that by now she had given away that she was certainly not a Jonian. Though apparently the rest of the Jonian crew had not noticed, as they continued working feverishly on hauling in today's catch. The Vulcan stood shivering, despide the apparant heat, by now wondering how a Jonian could have learned to speak Vulcan, when Starfleet had only recently re-discovered the existance of this human colony.
Before the Jonian could answer the question, the two women were joined by Donar, whose expression was grave. 'I assume you want to go and look at the object that fell. I wouldn't since it will take several weeks sailing into cold waters to reach it. If you want to crew to go, you're going to have to pay a lot for it.' he said softly, acknowledging Ana's presence with a polite nod.
"I am willing to take that risk Master Donar," Sonak answered, if not somewhat coldly, "however I cannot speak for the crew. I noticed there are life-rafts aboard this boat, anyone not wishing to come can depart in them." She knew it wasn't the safest option, but turning around back to port was most certainly out of the question as they would lose precious time that was better spent looking for survivors and ascertain the extend of the damage to her ship.
'We can always leave those who do not want to go at Frei-Anglique' Donar pointed out matter-of-factly.
'What is that?' Sonak asked as inconsequentially as she could.
'It is the most northern town there is. Some of your crew sound like they might be from there. Who knows, they might end up staying too.'
Sonak seriously doubted that, as her own crew would not abandon her. She knew everyone would be concerned for their crewmates, their friends and they would without a doubt join the search. She was worried about Reman though, for he did not know where they were headed, and what would keep them so long from returning to port. There was no way to contact him either. "As long as we do not lose too much time," she acknowledged his proposal.
She watched as Donar's men took over the helm from the counselor, who looked relieved at being relieved from that duty. The Vulcan turned back to Ana. "I believe the cook was about to prepare lunch," she stated innocently, as though the previous conversation had not happened, "I believe we should see if he could use a hand." She watched the woman closely, there was something about her that just didn't fit right, but the Vulcan was unable to determine what exactly.
~~~ days later ~~~
The Batavia at last docked at the Freije, and the crew was now clad in thick furs. Cold gusts of wind caused the ship to sway on the waves. The sails were down so the wind wouldn't catch them and send the ship adrift. Their supplies were loaded on a large sled, though Sonak wondered how on earth they would move it without exhausting themselves. They already had no way of knowing where the Vesuvius had crashed, all they had to go on was the smoke that seemed to be still quite a distance away from them.
'I bid you farewell then, Sonak. Your equipment is being loaded onto the sleds as we speak. Good luck looking for your artefact," Donar reported, though Sonak had already seen that it had been done.
"Thank you Master Donar," she replied, "we shall need all the luck we can get. If we do not return here before two weeks, return to port. Your ship shall be your own possession again, I have left orders in my log book. Please do not read this log until such time that we are to be considered lost." Bidding a final farewell to the Jonian crew that chose to stay on the ship, she then rejoined her own crew and those Jonians that chose to escort them. Among them was the Vulcan speaking Jonian woman, whose name Sonak still had not caught.

Ana nodded and replied, once again in the Commodores native tongue. "Yes Ma'am. I do." She was about to say something else when Donar appeared and she bowed her head to him, backing away slightly in respect as the two spoke.
When they finished speaking Sonak turned towards Ana.
"I believe the cook was about to prepare lunch," "I believe we should see if he could use a hand."
Ana, who had until now eaten her meals with the other Jonians on board, keeping a discrite distance from the others, while still observing.
"You wish me to join you?" She asked quietly speaking now in the local dialect all hint of her Vulcan speech gone, her tone and inflections matching the local speech perfectly. When this was acknowledged Ana smiled inwardly, this was the perfect opportunity for her to get close to the crew and learn more about them.
She carefully and somewhat skillfully kept the conversations which popped up away from her own identity and who she was, the Commodore the only one with any indication that she was not who she said she was. ----- [Once at the Ice Pole]
Ana stood some distance off while the sleds were packed and the supplies tied down. This part of the trip was going to test them all. She'd heard of and seen much of what the wilderness they were going to travel in had to offer and she was curious about how it would be for their party.
Once everything was packed she called to several of the Jonians, in their own dialect, who immediately took up the positions on the sleds and began pulling them across the ice. Survival was one of her main attributes and keeping these people alive became her main focus, as well as learning about who these strangers were.
They walked along, the traveling slow with the deep snow often hindering their progress. Their traveling was slow going, the deep snow almost to their waists in some places, the ice beneath their feet sometimes going from several feet thick to cracking and causing the sleds to shift as they sank into the seeping water.
Ana cried out suddenly and pointed, a large bearlike creature appeared over the top of a large rift of snow. Her hand moving to the dagger which had been hidden beneath her heavy jacket.

Fox sat in the crow's nest, when the batavia docked at the Freije. Even though he wore a thick fur suit he was shivering from the cold wind that blew up there. "It sure is a lot colder up here than on the deck." he thought.
He walked to the edge of the crow's nest when he was sure the batavia was tied to the dock. Taking the ropes in his hands he noticed he had some difficulty getting a good grip. "Must be the cold." he tought and didn't go further till he was sure his grip was firm enough. Carefully he climbed down, very glad when he finally stood on the deck again, seeing sleds were being loaded. Not much later they left on their journey over the icy/snowy land.
On their way Ana suddenly call something. Fox couldn't hear what she called. "Must be the wind." he thought, but looked at what she pointed at, also seeing the creature. Not knowing what to do or how to react with such a creature so close to them, he stood still, not making a move, hoping it wouldn't attack or something.

Ana had pointed to the bear type creature which had appeared over a nearby rift of snow, her cry alerting the others of the danger. Her hand pulling out the dagger which had been inside her heavy jacket.
She began motioning for the others to turn the sleds away and move off away from the creature. She'd only seen one of these large beasts before and had seen the damage it could and would do. Ana saw Fox stop as if scared, the beast heading in his direction as the sleds moved off, the ice creaking beneath their runners. It didn't sound good at all, the cracking and creaking ominous sounds of thin ice.
Ana moved between Fox and the creature who ambled towards them at a lumbering trot. "Get out, get out of here." she cried to Fox, in the dialect of the locals. Her arms waving trying to distract the beast while moving away, hoping to lure it away from the frightened man.
Several of the locals grabbed what appeared to be long pointed sticks, which in reality were harpoons and headed back to where Ana was holding off the creature. She was weaving in and out keeping close enough to keep the creatures attention so that the sleds could move off. The one in the rear starting to list badly as the ice beneath it cracked and creaked, long rivers of water appearing on the surface.
Ana saw this and cried out to alert the first sled. Her words picked up by Sonak, having spoken by mistake in flawless Vulcan. She turned back to the beast just as it swiped at one of the Jonians and tossed the body away as if it was a ragdoll.
She ran forward and grabbed one of the harpoons letting out a battle cry, which if anyone was within hearing distance would sound an aweful lot like French. Her arm raised in defiance, one holding the dagger and in the other the harpoon as she dashed forward to stab at the beast, just barely getting out of the way as it took a swipe at her.
Behind her the second sled was slipping into the open water, dragging two of the Jonians into the cold water with it as they grabbed for it. It sank quickly the weight of the supplies which had been strapped to it weighing it down. The Jonians who had tried to save it lost their lives in the frigid waters.

Nick couldn't decide which was more horrifying, the Jonians sinking or the giant bear like thing. Either way they were in some deep deep trouble.
"Get to thicker ice!!" He yelled and started running in a direction past the bear.
It ignored him and the last couple sleds and focused itself on Ana. She yelled and plunged the spear into the chest of the beast. The purple blood of the beast spilled out and pooled on the ice. It convulsed and thrashed wildly tossing Ana into the air. She landed several feet from the Engineer. He walked over and offered her a hand. She looked up and gratfully took hold.
"Good job," he said. L'Ola flagged him down as Ana brushed herself off. She'd scouted ahead and was standing next to a large chunk of debris. He just had to glance at it and knew exactly what it was.
"It landed upside down," he said, "It's part of the nacel impulse reactor."
"Doesn't bode well for getting off the planet," she said.
"Indeed."
~~~~~~
Carl clamboured into engineering, rather Mercurys' engineering. It was the least damaged engine room and had the only core with a possibility of restart. He had a couple large equipment cases slung over his shoulders.
"Any luck?" he asked one of the engineering grunts. He was hanging from the 'ceiling' wearing magnetic boots. It was the only way the engineers could get to the consoles.
"We've got a couple of the grapplers open. Sarah's working with Mike up in tube 6. The docking arms are going to be fun to get apart without power."
"Well then lets try and get the core reaction started up. Status of the injectors?"
"Everythings working sir, Aux power now at 34%. I don't know how long we have until the generators give out again."
"Lets get to work," he hit his combadge. "Carl to O'Malley. We need you down in engineering. We're going to start core startup procedure."
Hours earlier the remaining Senior Staff met to come up with some idea on what to do. They'd all decided that Mercury was most likly to get back into orbit to get a message off. So for the last 5 hours the crew has been working feverishly to disengage the maglocks between sections and get the core online.
They were close...
