Sonak paced the deck before the main viewscreen on the primary module. She watched as the remainder of Vander's fleet engaged the Remans, while the secondary module backed off a little.
"Red alert, shields up," she ordered the new CTSO, and the woman tended to it without hesitation. "Mr Fox, lay in a course, Ms O'Neill prepare to engage the Remans." She gazed over her shoulder at Meylor. "Status of the secondary module?"
"Severely damaged," Meylor replied swiftly, "they seem to have lost communications and most of their defense systems. I am releasing the tractorbeam on the tertiary module to allow for more maneuverability."
Sonak nodded. "Good thinking Paht," she said, calling him by his first name for the first time. She saw his eyes widen slightly at that, but said nothing. She felt the deckplating vibrate as Fox sped up the primary module and sent it into a series of turns and spins to engage the Remans.
Around them, the other vessels had destroyed one of the three Reman vessels. Just as a Reman vessel maneuvred to take a shot at the primary module, the Neg'Var showed up and the Reman vessel now would function only as space dust.
Sonak raised an eyebrow at her crew, but said nothing. She said down in her seat and grabbed the armrests. "Can we cloak?" she finally asked.
O'Neill shook her head. "That last volley knocked out our cloaking device ma'am," she reported.
Sonak nodded. "Very well, targed that last Reman vessel, and I could care less if you destroy them," she said, and pointed at the remaining vessel.
Kate O'Neill grimaced. "With pleasure ma'am," she said, and punched at her console. Red beams shot away from the saucer, directly at the Reman vessel which was caught off guard.
The crew of the Vesuvius watched as the vessel exploded, and saw the shields light up when debris made contact with them. "Well that seems to be it," Sonak commented quietly, "Mr Meylor please signal our gratitude to the Neg'Var and tell Gorak to prepare to receive a copy of all our data regarding this mission, including Doctor Reckus' autopsy report on the Reman." ~How odd~ she thought ~doctor Reckus..there are two of them now...jatan and myself~
After Meylor had made sure that the Neg'Var had received the transmission, Sonak turned to Fox. "Mr Fox, best speed to Starbase Bellicose," she ordered, "though please bear in mind that we are taking the other two modules in tow. Mr Meylor, signal Bellicose engineering and maintenance that we require a spacedock for extensive repairs."
Meylor nodded and saw to his task. Sonak leaned back in her chair and sighed. For once she had not regretted destroying an enemy, and the idea bothered her. "Mr McVaye, please report to my readyroom," she called, after tapping her combadge. Now that everything was quiet for the time being, Sonak was going to make use of that and confess the bothersome feelings to the counselor. She didn't want to bother her husband with something so trivial.
~I must remember to cook him his favourite dinner tonight~ she thought, and smiled ever so slightly ~and I will have the children help me do it....we shall surprise him~
<McVaye if you please write the last post:p>

"Mr Fox, best speed to Starbase Bellicose," she ordered, "though please bear in mind that we are taking the other two modules in tow." "Aye Ma'am." Fox replied on Sonaks order. Pressing a few buttons on the helm console. Meylor reported that tractor beams had been locked on the other two module. When hearing Meylor announce this Fox said: "Engaging for a course to Bellicose, warp 4.5, ETA 3 hours, 43 minutes and 17 seconds." Slowly the primary module started to turn about, the nacelles outside lit up with a blue glow as it moved into warp pulling the other two modules with it. The remaining ships of the small fleet that assisted them, also layed in a new course, following the primary module of the Vesuvius.

Upon arrival at Bellicose Nick returned to his quarters for some rest. He walked into his room and sat down in his chair. with almost freakish timing his computer monitor started rising and beeping, he had a message. He clicked it on. "Son we need you to come home. There's been an accident. Yannis has been severly wounded and wants you by her side. We don't know how long this will take son but please come home, for your daughters sake." Nick sat back in the chair, worry in his eyes. He fired a quick response back to Tandar and a message up to Sonaks office and the bridge. "To all SR. staff of the USS Vesuvius A. It is my unfortunate duty to inform you that I must temporarily resign my commission as First Officer of this ship. It has been wonderful knowing you guys and I hope to be back sometime in the future. Godspeed Vesuvius." He closed his computer and quickly packed all his things into a small suitcase. He hefted it over his shoulder and made his way to the Bellicose gangway. OOC: I'm unfortunatly transfering to TO. My time just isn't here anymore and I'd rather see new faces come aboard than have an inactive XO. So see you all around. I'll be on msn .

Vander felt the ship rocking slightly, indicative of its docking with Starbase Bellicose. As Helm Control was locked down, and the Pilot stood to leave, Vander knew that it was his time to leave as well. His time on the ship was over. There was a brief buzz of activity as the Bridge crew secured their station, but that abated quickly as they left the Bridge.
Vander secured his own station as well. He wiped the console clean of the special-access protocols that he programmed in that were granted to him as an Admiral, allowing him to access any data he wanted, including classified information.
Having done that, he stood. He turned to Sonak. "Well, Commodore, it is time for me to depart. I do appreciate the use of the Vesuvius, though I didn't actually request it either. I apologize for the rude manner in which I took Command, though I hope you'll understand the necessity. It was good to be on a ship again. I'd missed it these past years."
He took one final look around, then turned back to her. "Walk with me to the gangway?" he asked, offering his arm to her.

Just as she was about to accept Vander's offer, she heard Nick's announcement coming over the intercom. With an obviously shocked look, she glanced at Vander. "Please excuse me, there is something I need to attend to first," she said, and sped into her readyroom. There she found a message waiting with a personal message to her, where Nick informed her of the nature of his departure.
She read the message again and again, shaking her head in sadness. The possebility of losing his daughter was very high, and she could understand his need to go. "Godspeed Nick," she whispered, and also sent a message to Tandar notifying them of the arrival of her now former FO, and also sent a message to his parents home for Nick himself in which she thanked him for his dedicated service.
When she returned from her readyroom, Admiral Vander was still waiting. "This is bad," Sonak said softly, "Commander Martens' daughter was gravely injured." Then she gave Vander a haunted look. "I have the child's mother in the brig," she said, her voice barely a whisper, "and I am in dubio. I made the mother a promise that I would arrange with Nick to allow her to see her daughter. If I keep her here and the child dies, I will never be able to live with it. On the other hand, the woman is guilty of murder and attempted murder."
Vander looked thoughtful for a moment. "If this is the woman's possibly last chance to see her child..." he pondered.
But Sonak had already made her mind up. "Sonak to security, please escort Mrs Martens to Mr Martens' shuttle, and make sure she is sedated properly. I am sending Mrs Martens along with Mr Martens on his flight to Tandar." She wasn't sure if Nick would be too thrilled, but she had made the woman a promise, and if the child died it would forever be on her conscience. She knew that if she were in their position she'd want to see her child too, or have the father see his child.
Now, she accepted Vander's still offered arm. "What are you going to do now admiral?" she asked, "will you be going back to Klingon space, and convince Gorak that we are not so bad as they think we are?"

Daniel checked his beeping watch, and to his delightment saw that his shift was over. He streched his arms above his head and yawned. He turned off the computer on his desk, and got up. =/\= Mister McVaye, please report to my readyroom. =/\= Great, just fabulous, Daniel thought, shift is over and madam captain needs advice. He sighed, and replied that he'd be right over.
He strolled through the corridor on his way to the turbolift, and took his time. The elevator took him to the bridge level, and from there Daniel slowly walked to the captain's ready room. He rubbed his eyes as he failed surpressing another yawn. Sonak's "Enter" sounded from the other side of the door, and Daniel stepped in, trying to look cheerfull. "Have a seat ensign," Sonak motioned Daniel, who thankfully dropped himself into the comfortable chair in front of the commordore's desk. "How can I be of service ma'am?" Daniel asked.
Sonak explained the situation, and Daniel needed a good few moments to think it over. "I don't know a lot about Vulcan minds, especially not in your case, a Vulcan with emotions. But looking at how it works with humans, I think you may have had a lot of stress as of late. That can be the result of anything; the mission; lack of sleep; a combination of those things, those are all posibilities. When people are stressed, they become more careless, and just want to get things over with. Sometimes that can mean that they'd like to get things over with at whatever cost. But the answer to that lies with yourself. If it is indeed stress, then we can work something out to prevent it in the future. But what you gave me now was something difficult to work with. So I suggest that you try and find out the cause for this, perhaps by meditating, just to give an example, and then come back to me when you found something. All I can do now is speculate, and there's only a minor chance that I'll be succesfull enough at that to help you with."
Daniel got up and wished the commodore a goodnight, as he finally could get to his quarters to get a deserved night of sleep.

"Didn't we just do end of mission checks?" Jason asked rhetorically.
Ed laughed, "Yeah, but last time we had a lot more ship to check up on. Honestly, it's going to take them ages to rebuild science lab 3."
"Not that it's going to be a problem. It's not like we use it all the time. At least the repairs will give us a nice break on Bellicose for a bit."
"I can catch up with a few friends. Speaking of which, if you see a maintenance engineer running around looking lovesick let me know."
Jason couldn't help but smile a little, "Lovesick?"
"Well he was the last time I saw him" Ed tried to remember as much as possible "This girl who started hanging round with us. I think you might have met her. From what I can tell she's related to Commander Kanz…"
Before he could inquire any further L'Ola walked in the room. She seemed to have a look of emptiness in her eyes. "How's it going in here?"
"Well we can't fill in all the paperwork due to severe lack of labs. Are you taking this over from here?"
"Nope, I have other things to do. How would you feel about temporarily taking control of the Science department?"
Jason looked confused, "What?"
L'Ola handed him the PADD she was holding which contained the message Nick had sent to the senior staff. He read it and looked back at her, "We'll keep things running here for as long as you need. I take it you're acting first officer now."
She nodded in response. Jason was worried about her. He turned to Ed, "Could you do me a favour?"
"Sure, what?"
"Go and get Lucy. Bring her here right now."
It was Ed's turn to look confused, "Lucy? As in…"
"As in your friend on the starbase. I think she's needed here more than anywhere else at the moment."
Ed was still a little puzzled but decided it was just best to go along with things. As soon as he had left, L'Ola smiled a little, "Thanks. Oh, I almost forgot, you might get a call from sickbay soon."
"Why? What's going on?" Jason tried to work out the answers to his own questions. His comm badge beeped.
=/\= Lieutenant Carter please report to sickbay =/\=
"On my way…" He tapped his badge again, "How did you know…?"
L'Ola didn't say anything but despite everything couldn't help smiling a little. At least someone was going to get a good surprise.

"Are you really impatient or something?"
"No, I just didn't expect it to take this long." Katia replies between breaths. Actually, she was more than a little impatient, she just didn't want to admit it.
Jatan smiled, "Relax, get your breathing straight. Now I know that you and James aren't married any more, but do you want me to call him?"
"I don't think somehow he'd care."
"Why wouldn't he?"
"Why would he?" She suddenly realised that all the talking had relocated her concentration. *Remember to get you breathing right* she told herself.
Caldwell walked over to see what was going on, "So you're finally here Kat. You want me to call Jason?"
Katia thought for a second, "That would be great actually. I could use the company. He'll probably start panicking more than me though."
She got a half-laugh in reply.
Thankfully, as far as she was concerned, things were over fairly quickly. In fact, at the moment Jason walked in the room a new born baby girl was being welcomed into the world.
"What's happen..." Jason started to say, but he very quickly saw what the fuss was about.
"So is it a boy or a girl?" Katia asked.
Jatan handed her over, "Girl, and a beautiful one at that."
Grins crossed the faces of the two science officers in the room. "Can I see her?" Jason asked.
Katia turned to face him, "You know I think she has your eyes."
The two of them sat looking adoringly at their baby girl. Jatan just stood looking slightly bewildered. He called Caldwell over again. "You were the one that did all her early tests weren't you?"
"Yes, why?"
"You could have told me."
Caldwell smiled, "It was priveleged information, although I doubt it will stay that way for too long."

On the Klingon Homeworld
Gorak was not amused, his chance to wipe the smug superiority of the Federation had been taken away from him. Now he had been told he must lend whatever support the Federation needed to recover from the attack by the Remans, as well as oversee the repairs to the main Klingon Fleet. A glorious battle had awaited him, perhaps his last chance for glory in this new age of peace, now he would spend his team sat behind a desk, where was the honour?
He had of coursed recorded all the tactical information he gained about the Federation ship Vesuvius, and had updated the intelligence files on the Starfleet personnel he had encountered, he could only hope that one day it may prove useful.
With a deep sigh, he picked up the first of many PADDs he had to work his way through, with the keen knowledge that an administrator was no job for a warrior.
OCC:
It’s been a pleasure simming with you all, good luck in your next mission!

"What are you going to do now admiral? Will you be going back to Klingon space, and convince Gorak that we are not so bad as they think we are?" she asked as they walked down the corridor towards the gangway.
He nodded. "That is what I intend to do, yes. We have to prove to him that the 'supposed' Klingon attack on earth wasn't trickery on our part. Otherwise, we may have a continued increased in pent-up hostility, and with the Klingon temperment, even with someone like Chancellor Martok, a small incident may set things off down the road to Instellar War. The Klingon-Federation relations are the most stable in the Galaxy, among the major Powers. That would tear up the Galaxy worse than the Dominion War."
"So what happens from here?" she asked further.
"Well, from here I go back to Earth, and make a report to the Commander-in-Chief, and will consult with him on the most suited course of action. We shall see from there."
They reached the gangway. "Well, Commodore, my thanks to you for the use of the Vesuvius. Good luck to you and your fine crew."
He continued on through the Starbase, realizing he would have to find a means by which to get back to Earth.
(OOC: I would also like to add how much fun I had doing this. Been a pleasure)
