The other holograms merely smiled, though Claire looked at the engineer suspisciously. "What did Nick do that he got replaced with you?" she asked.
Nathan felt it was time to step in, before the Bajoran woman would insult the Inuit chief engineer. "What did Nick do?" he laughed, as he gently placed a hand on her shoulder, "what he did? Well.....he got promoted to first officer!"
Claire shot him a glare. "Really?"
"Oh yes, really."
Claire turned to Fox. "So if Nick became first officer, where did that leave you?"
<Fox>
"I see," Claire continued, but she didn't sound convinced. The Bajoran then turned her attention to L'Ola, hooked an arm through the other woman's and walked her off a short distance. "So what's the deal between you and Nick?" she finally asked, "and now that you are FO, where is Nick?"
<L'Ola>
In the mean time, Jatan had quietly walked off with his bondmate, and led her through the large mansion. Her breath caught in her throat as she saw where she was leading him. "This is where it all started," she whispered.
Jatan nodded in silence as he gave her a gentle shove into the room and closed the door behind him. Holding her hand, he led her towards the queen sized bed and smiled. "Yes it is," he replied, smiling mischievously as he closed the heavy curtains.
"Oh," Sonak exclaimed softly, feeling his emotions over their bond. She smiled back at him as she sat waiting for him to return to her.
About an hour later, the couple emerged from the room, looking slightly flustered, but very energetic. Sonak's dress showed a few wrinkles, but otherwise nothing really betrayed what they'd been up to.
"After the barbeque, I want to go for a swim in the pool," Sonak announced, though she looked pained as she remembered how she'd been 'killed' the last time her entire crew had gathered in this program. While possessed by an entity, Nick Martens had dunked her under water while she'd been nine months pregnant with her youngest twins. It had ended up with her being killed in the program, and nearly being killed for real. It had also resulted in the premature birth of her children.
Jatan noticed her pained look. "Are you sure love?" he asked, wrapping an arm around her shoulders, pulling her close to him.
"Yes, I am sure," Sonak replied, "what are the odds of all of it happening again? Very slim I have calculated. Now, let us return to the party."
The two of them returned to the garden, and seemingly nobody had noticed they had slipped away. Nobody, but Nathan, who cast them a knowing smile.

"So what's the deal between you and Nick? and now that you are FO, where is Nick?" L'Ola half-smiled, "The deal between us? I'm not sure at the moment really." Claire looked a little confused, "Why not?" "Well, to answer your second question, Nick had to go back home to look after Yannis and I haven't heard from him since." "Ah, yes I can see that making things slightly difficult." He thought about it for a minute, "Yeah, that sounds okay with me. I mean, we're a bit of a mess at the moment with people all over the place, but the science is still there." Lucy smiled, "Thanks, so what do I have to do next?" "Normally, I'd say talk to the First Officer to see if you're allowed to come aboard for work experience... but in your situation I'd say the captain's your best bet." Jason wrote something on a PADD and handed it to her, "That's the clearing to say it's alright with me." "Okay, now I just have to crash a party..." Getting into the holodeck wasn't a problem. Finding the right person without being seen by everyone else was going to be next to impossible, especially since she didn't recognise the program. The first person to spot her was Nephi Jacobson, as bad luck would have it the only person she didn't know. "Can I help you?" He asked. She looked apologetic, "I'm looking for Commodore Sonak, but I'd prefer it if Commander Kanz didn't see me." Nephi was a little confused, "Okay... Who are you?" "Lucy Kanz, I live on the Starbase. I'm guessing you don't know where your CO is." "Correct. But I can help you look." <OOC: Sorry, I was going to write more but I have to go. Have fun everyone.>

From the corner of her eyes, Sonak saw her chief engineer talking to a familiar young woman which she recognized as Lucy Kanz. Taking it that the girl wanted to surprise her mother, Sonak checked L'Ola's location before walking over to the two people.
As it was, Sonak found her first officer talking to the holograpic version of their former counselor Claire Steenbergen, and she was pleased to see Daniel had butted himself right into the conversation.
"Seems you found yourself a date lieutenant," Sonak said as she approached Nephi and Lucy, and winked at the girl. "Welcome aboard Lucy, do you wish to see L'Ola?"
Lucy shook her head, but didn't miss the fact that the Vulcan commodore didn't refer to L'Ola as being her mother. Gratefully, she gave the woman a smile. "I was wondering if I could stay aboard for a while, if there's something for me to do?"
Sonak looked at the girl before her. The 16-year old seemed to really want to do something useful. She would have to talk to her first officer about recommending she attend Starfleet academy. "Well," Sonak started, "I suppose you could help out in the science department, or perhaps security is more appealing to you?"
At the girl's hesitation, Sonak held up a hand. "You do not have to decide right away Ms Kanz, for now, join us at this party in honour of L'Ola Kanz. She has been promoted to first officer."
She tapped Nephi on the shoulder. "Keep an eye on her for a bit, and keep her away from L'Ola, apparently Lucy wishes this visit to remain a bit of a surprise."

Nika stepped off of the shuttle that had taken her to the ship, the Vesuvius, and looked around. She had been instructed to report to the Captain of the vessel. But before she could do that, she felt that she had to drop her baggage off in her quarters and do something about the nearly constant noise that didn’t give her much oppurtunity to think.
Tired of the sound that seemed to be everywhere, and far too loud, Nika walked quickly to her quarters. Once there, she dropped her bags on the floor, and gently removed the universal translator from her ear. Nika stared at it for a while, then took a small case with two small black circles in it out of her bag. Nika fiddled with the back of the case for a while, and the contact lenses inside of them turned from black to clear. Then she turned again to her universal translator, and she opened up the case that held the contact lenses, and removed a small device, with which she adjusted the universal translator to send a signal to the lenses. Her work done, the only thing that remained was to see if it worked. Nika gently placed the universal translator in her ear, and the lenses over her eyes. She then changed into a new uniform, and left her quarters to step out into the hallway.
The person who had sold the lenses to Nika had assured her that they were compatible with Starfleet’s universal translator, and he had also assured her that she would need it if she expected to get any peace and quiet. Unfortunately he had been right about the second item, but it appeared he had also made technology that worked, Nika thought in relief as silence greeted her ears, but a written transcript of what was being said scrolled in front of her eyes. She may look almost exactly like a human, but her thought processes were very different than most known humanoid species. Her ears, although they were only slightly smaller than human or romulan or klingon ones, were used to silence, and in order for her to cope with all the noise that could be found on Federation ship she had to tone most of them down. The only way she saw that she could do that, other than insisting that everyone speak one at a time, and quietly, was to change the sound to a visual. Spoken phrases would now appear as text on the lenses, rather than her having to hear them.
That matter having been dealt with, Nika headed towards the bridge. She stepped onto the turbo lift, and from there she found the bridge and looked for the Captain. Unable to find the commodore, she decided to try to determine if she could still report as she was supposed to. “Compute, locate Commodore Reckus,” she said quietly.
“Commodore Reckus is in holodeck two,” the computer replied. Nika didn’t want to intrude on anyone, so she glanced around the bridge again, trying to figure out who had the highest rank. “Acting Ensign Nikaila Cir’Kem, reporting for duty,” she told them, then waited until she could receive her orders, and see the commodore so she could actually report to her, rather than someone else who happened to be around.

"Keep an eye on her for a bit, and keep her away from L'Ola, apparently Lucy wishes this visit to remain a bit of a surprise," Sonak said to Nephi somewhat quietly, after tapping his shoulder.
"Yes, Commodore. I would be happy to," he said, smiling. He was quite happy to keep both eyes on this charming young woman, despite her appearing to be quite a few years younger than himself. He turned to her, offering his arm. "Ms Kanz?"
She took it, and he steered her away from the direction he knew Commander Kanz to be in, instead taking her around the front of the mansion. She rubbed the material making up his sleeve slightly, and looked up and down his outfit. "What exactly is this...Lieutenant?" she asked, uncertain of his rank. "Feels like leather."
"Close. It's caribou hide, but not tanned into leather. And yes, it's Lieutenant. Nephi Jacobson's the name, I'm the Chief Engineer."
"Ah!" she said, seemingly delighted. "I somewhat envy you, spending your days working with intriguing and complicated systems. Do you enjoy it?"
"Indeed I do. However, complicated is much better of a description than intriguing. And even when calling it intriguing, its usually more of an annoying intriguing. Like being intrigued as to why a system won't perform like its supposed to despite my constant attention."
"And as to what you and the Commodore were just speaking of, perhaps you'd be interested in helping out in Engineering instead? Though I suspect you'll want to work in the Science Department, as Commander Kanz did, given your common last name. If I may ask, how are the two of you related?"

Commander Mark Harper watched the new arrival with interest and decided to see what she would do, before standing up and welcoming her. He noticed that while the woman looked human, her eyes were distinctly different. He watched as she looked around and apparently finally decided to report for duty.
"Welcome aboard ensign," Harper said aloud, "I see you decided not to go to the holodeck, where the senior staff is having a little party in honour of our new first officer." He got up from his seat, walking up to her with his right hand stretched out to her. "I'm Commander Mark Harper, night time first officer of this magnificent ship. Come, I shall take you to the party. New arrival or not, you ought to be there."
He guided the woman towards the holodeck, where they easily found the commodore. As the only adult Vulcan, she was very hard to miss among the senior staff. Five children raced past them, as they tried to tag one another, squealing in delight. Mark rolled his eyes at Cir'Kem. "Children will be children," he laughed, "and four of those were actually the commodore's."
He beckoned his commanding officer. "Commodore, our new security chief has arrived. Ensign Nikaila Cir'Kem, this is Commodore Sonak."
Sonak watched the woman, noticing that she seemed to wince at the laughter and chatter that was going on. "Greetings," she said, but did not offer her hand in greeting, "welcome aboard the Vesuvius." She motioned towards the barbeque, where her grandfather was happily passing out delicacies from all over the universe, "please, feel free to help yourself and mingle with the rest of the staff."

<OOC: Yeah I know I'm not here but it's too hot to do anything else>
"If I may ask, how are the two of you related?"
Lucy paused for a second before deciding on the safest course of action, "Actual physical relation to me? Umm... it's a little complicated. But it's less complicated just to say that she's my legal guardian, not that I really need one any more."
She realised she was starting to babble, so picked a safer topic to talk about. "To be honest, I don't know if science really is the family business. My grandparents are systems designers, my dad was a trader, my mother's a scientist though." She tried not to laugh as she finished her sentence.
Nephi smiled, "Well if you want to see what it's like to be an engineer you are honestly welcome to join us."
"Thanks" Lucy looked around at the other people at the party. "So what's with all the holograms?"
"How did you know they aren't real? Apparently everyone except me can spot these things."
"I can't take any credit, empathy is one thing that does run in the family." *And speaking of empathy...* she thought as she realised her mother was getting closer. "I'd better go, I promised Kat that I'd give her a break and babysit for a bit. It was nice talking." She ran out of the holodeck before Nephi had a chance to reply.

Nika was introduced to the Commodore, who welcomed her to the Vesuvius. Nika then walked toward the food, glanced at it, and found something that smelled good. She ate it, and quietly thanked the hologram that had suggested it to her.
She then glanced around at the other people. She was not very good at socializing, and most of that was because she didn’t see the need to talk to other people, it seemed like a waste. She found it far preferable simply to sit or stand in silence, however, that didn’t seem to be possible. Still, Nika didn’t feel any need to add to the noise, and she wished that others felt the same way, however, they obviously did not.
Just standing here was rather boring, unfortunately the sound pretty much stopped her from being able to just let her thoughts wander. And she might need to know the rest of the crew, or they might need to know her. She walked up to someone, she wasn’t sure who, that was why she would need them to introduce themselves. “I’m Ensign Cir’Kem, the new Chief of Security and Tactical,” Nika introduced herself, then realized that she hadn’t spoken loudly enough to be heard by the other person. She repeated what she had said, then waited for them to respond.

Nephi watched as Ms Kanz left quickly, without giving her the chance to say anything. He was already contemplating where she might be able to help out in Engineering. He could use a personal assistant, to help him in his work and when he needed things taken care of outside of Engineering. She could learn things quite quickly that way.
He had heard a voice near him while he was thinking, and looked around a bit for the source. Fortunately, it repeated. "I’m Ensign Cir’Kem, the new Chief of Security and Tactical," came the voice behind him.
He turned around, and found himself facing a young woman in a gold uniform. "Indeed, I see that you are. Lieutenant Nephi Jacobson, Chief Engineer," he said, extending his hand. After a brief moment, she took it, and he said "Welcome aboard the Vesuvius. I think you'll find it interesting having charge over the Tactical systems of this ship, particularly with the Multi-Vector Assault Mode, quite intriguing to an Engineer as well."
She nodded, and looked around. "I was told this party is in honor of a new First Officer?"
"Indeed, Commander Kanz. She was promoted to First Officer from Chief Science Officer recently when Commander Martens, our previous First Officer, resigned from the position."
"Please, join us," he said, offering his arm. "Are you hungry?"

Jared's shuttle arrived a little later than Cir'Kam's. It had been an uneventful journey from the Conqueror. Boring was the other word. Jared had spent most of it asleep since it seemed the most efficent use of time. Federation ships when not actually doing anything were the most fantastically boring places in the galaxy. About all there was to do was drinking the strange and often untasteful drinks in the mess hall, talking to people too busy to be able to talk or too bored to try to think.
That much time not spent with people, Jared spent fiddling with the various gadgets that he had inherited off of his brother. After a little while he had improved a few of them; the holowings had an hour more battery life, the scanner was that bit more reliable. The scanner was a point of obsession for Jared, he tried to improve it in every way possible at every opportunity. If ever he came across Borg scanning technology then that would be added without a thought. Maybe one day he would, although probably not anytime soon. Hopefully not soon anyway, he often thought when he thought about it. After all, Borg scanners tended to be attached to Borg.
Eventually he was on a shuttle to the starbase. The shuttle topped the starship for sheer lack of interest. The pilot was basically braindead from having done this for far too long and so was as interesting as the rest of the shuttle. Jared was sure that in the right circumstances he would be nice enough, but he was just another person doing another job at this moment. Eventually and fortunately before his brain dribbled out of his ears, Jared arrived at the USS Vesuvius-A. I wonder if it's so named because it blows up every now and then, he thought.
Jared wasn't as polite as Cir'Kem; after dropping off his bag and finding out where the Commodore was, he went down to the holodeck to report in. Either the Commodore was off duty in which case it didn't matter, or she was on duty in which case he may as well report to her.
He thought he better at least let them know that he was outside the holodeck to make sure there wasn't anything going on that he shouldn't be privy to. So he pressed a few buttons to sound a bell inside the holodeck.

“No, I’m not hungry, I already had some food,” Nika responded. Besides that, she had not arrived on the ship hungry, she had piloted the shuttle herself, but she had been sure to eat something so she would not need to eat as soon as she arrived. As it turned out, she would have done fine without having eaten, but she figured that she had been better off being prepared and turning down some food, as being hungry and going on duty.
“I will join you, what are you doing?” she asked, curious. “Besides giving the first officer congratulations.” Speaking of which, Nika glanced around, looking for Commander Kanz, so that she could congratulate her. Even though Nika did not know the first officer, she would probably need to, besides, any promotion deserved recognition.
Nika noticed that there was a silence that she had learned was considered awkward by many humanoids, but it was interrupted by a bell noise, that caused her to wince momentarily, before glancing at Lieutenant Jacobson. She realized that he might not understand her non-verbal communication, so she reluctantly verbalized her previously unspoken question. “Why would such a noise occur?” she asked him, unable to think of a reason why such an unpleasant sound would be necessary.

"I will join you, what are you doing?" she asked. "Besides giving the first officer congratulations." Then she winced when a bell went off, sounding like someone was wanting to come into the holodeck. "Why would such a noise occur?" she asked, appeared to be bothered.
"Other than congratulating the First Officer, it's mainly a social gathering of the Senior Officer. The Commodore's grandfather, the owner of this marvelous home," he says, sweeping his hand toward the house, "although he's a hologram, is preparing a barbeque."
"Well, it sounds like someone is requesting admittance into the holodeck. I'll go check who that is." He says, going over, opening the door.
Before him is a young Lieutenant in a gold uniform. "Hmm, you the new Chief Ops Officer?" Nephi asked.
He looked surprised. "Why yes, I am. Lieutenant Reman Jared. How did you know?"
"Nephi Jacobson, Chief Engineer. The only Officers here are Senior Staff, and the CTSO is already here, so I presumed you were COO. Welcome aboard the Vesuvius. Please, come in and join us," he said, waving him in. "We're having a little get-together in honor of our new First Officer."
He came in somewhat, and Cir'Kem stepped closer. "Ah yes, I'll introduce you. Reman Jared, Nikaila Cir'Kem. Lt Jared is our new COO, and Ensign Cir'Kem our new CTSO."
