Russell looked at Tiana, “well between you and me just russell or russ, but you know what Starfleet is like, it will have to be sir outside” Tiana nodded and continued to talk about her limited time aboard the Victory. He was surprised that the XO had had dinner with her. "I am officially moved in now. I think I'm going to have a drink to celebrate, do you want one?" Russell looked at her and descided then to forget getting any work done this day, “ok why not” Russell slowly moved to the replicator and order himself a drink.
Finding a seat not covered in books, Russell sat and looked at tiana obviously looking for somewhere to sit. Finally sitting on a empty space on the bed, she looked over and russell couldn’t help but feel shy under that stare, “so, umm what was the academy like, I only finished a short while ago” ‘well I am seriously plucking at straws’ Russell thought to himself.

“ok why not” Russell said in response to Tiana's suggestion of a drink. Tiana felt inordinately pleased that he had decided to stay. They both got their drinks, at which point she noted that she had coved just about every available flat surface with stuff. In the end Russell settled in the one empty chair and Tiana perched on the end of her (mostly buried) bed.
She smiled and looked across at Russell. “so, umm what was the academy like, I only finished a short while ago”. Tiana's smile broadened slightly and she took a sip of her drink before answering.
"I guess it hasn't changed much since you were there, I doubt it's changed much in the last century or so. In fact I'm sure some of the lecturers are still the same. They pass out so much information at you feel like your brain is going to melt." A thought struck Tiana.
"Do you remember Professor Tablis?" She guessed that even if Russell had never been lectured by him, he would have heard of him. The man's reputation had spread through out the quadrant. "I once fell asleep in his advanced warp theory lecture." She paused a beat before continuing "and he caught me." Tiana then proceeded to spin the whole tale involving her study group, an over due project and not nearly enough caffeine. She scrubbed a hand across the back of her neck, suddenly aware that she was blushing slightly. "Anyway I ended up having to write a full report on the lecture from a friend's notes." Tiana laughed as she finished the tale.
She looked across at Russell again. "So tell me, how did you come to be laying across the corridor anyway."

Tiana smiled and hoped that her blush had faded, she couldn't remember the last time she had blushed. "So what's life like on the Victory? She's my first proper starship."

Joan listened to what Youngblood had to say smiling and sipping away at her drink. She found what he said a bit fancinating, and wondered how much more he knew.
"Well, I don't know much about Earth. I was raised on a planet far from earth with no one like myself, so anything you could tell me I would be most appreciative of. I tried watching the Tongo game, but that doesn't really interest me. I know some of the music he sings. Will we be lucky enough to hear anything from Sinatra or someone like that, and would it be possible for a duet with him and someone else from that time frame or is this a solo act only?" she asked hoping it wasn't too much for him.
"Don't worry about rambling, I like to learn and talking to others is one of the best ways to gain information," she said smiling hoping he would continue.

Scene: USS Victory-C
{Ten-Forward Lounge }
“The lounge was full of crewmen and civilians alike who were enjoying the start to their wonderfully long R&R. In a corner a jukebox was playing, popular music . The bartender and waitresses had their hands full.
“Cmdr Matthew scanned the room for a empty table he found one and headed for it
James Sat Down and No sooner had he taken a seat when a waitress was standing beside the table.
"What can I get you commander," she asked politely.
"I'll have a Glass of white wine ," James replied as he flipped open the food menu.
"ill have a nice Porterhouse steak a bake Potato with butter & chives and a slice of carrot cake am sure our new chief medical officer would have a lot to say about my Dinner order if she known"
“But we will keep this a secret “
“The waitress blushed. "Ok‘. a steak Dinner it is "
“She smiled and made her way to the bar.
“James thinking to him self I must drop in later on our new CMO and introduce my self

Tongo is a rather simple game." Nack dealt a series of cards to the Captain, and a couple of holodeck characters.
"Should we be waiting for Commander McCormick to join us?" He grinned goofily. Nika knew he was being facetious and didn't respond.
"... I'll begin without her. We can catch her up if she chooses to join." He pointed to a card, and picked it up, showing the Captain. "This is a venture. All of the circular cards are ventures." Nack placed the card back down on the Tongo wheel, spinning it around until a rectangular card was in front of him again. "These would be your finances. We all start with the same amount.. unless you are the Nagus," He smirked. The Nagus always started with more, per Ferengi law. Nack spun an equal amount of finance cards around to each of the players. Each slid their respective cards off the wheel, and the game-play started with the person to the left of Nack.
"Each turn, you have the ability to confront, evade, acquire, or retreat, with the ventures you have in front of you." Nikalia was wide-eyed, with the rules seemingly becoming more complicated. "Once we start playing, you'll get the hang of it." The standard Ferengi mantra. Nack pegged her for a quick learner, however. He wouldn't try taking advantage of the seemingly inexperienced Officer.
"You see, the Andorian there, since he was first, he had to put forth a venture. We all now have the option of leveraging the buy-in, indexing the margin, or allowing his venture to stand as is." Nack raised his head trying to get a view across the table at the venture. He leaned toward Captain Cir'kem after. "He played a rather common venture. I am willing to bet he's going to rely on the dice roll to maintain market share."
The game continued play, as Nack kept explaining the general rules as it went. Latinum strips were used sometimes in place of the finance cards - but since this was a replicated game, and there was no real money, latinum wasn't used.
After a few rounds, Nika spun the wheel, rolled the dice, and let down her hand. "Is this what they call a full consortium?"
The others at the table threw down their cards in the holodeck's best representation of disgust, and Nack leaned over to confirm the unbelievable statement. "Beginners luck!" he said, as the Captain claimed her loot. Nack spun the wheel, ignoring the financial blow, and laid out his next set of ventures.

The game of Tonga seemed very complicated, and Nika had the feeling that this was the kind of game that knowing all the rules really helped. Although, apparently, not necessarily, as Nika found herself in possession of a full consortium. Still, she figured she should pay attention, since, as far as she could see, she'd used up her share of beginner's luck.
Nika was a good observer, usually. Under the careful circumstances of the bridge, she was quite capable of noticing things and keeping events under control. But she was off duty now, so her interest in paying attention and picking things up quickly was only academic. As things stood, she was fairly relaxed, and there was singing in the background, one of the more distracting noises Nika could think of, and one that she hadn't learned to tune out quite yet.
All of which were just excuses for why her luck had turned bad, and she was presently making mistake after mistake. But Nika was enjoying herself, and the money wasn't real. And if she'd just evaded when she should have obviously acquired—obvious to everyone but her, that was—she was still working on the learning of it all.
And if one ignored the finance cards—speaking of which, finance cards? Where did this kind of thing come from? The game must regularly be played with something else, probably latinum, otherwise the Ferengi wouldn't care so much about it—that Nika had gained from her first lucky hand, she would be losing completely and totally to the other players, because even the holographic ones had more experience than her.
From what she could tell, someone else had winning cards, so the game had come to a good breaking point again. Nika stood up, nodding at her first officer. “I think I'm going to take a break for a while,” Nika said. “I might be back in a bit.” She wasn't sure herself. She'd learned about all she could at the moment without giving herself a headache, so she thought it best to give herself a break.
Nika decided that she would stay in the holodeck. As much as she liked reality, and the silence of nearly-empty corridors, it was pleasant spending time with some of her officers. She wasn't sure if Nack would rejoin the group or continue to play with only holographic personas. Nika reached the table with Commanders McCormick and Youngblood. “Do you mind if I rejoin you?” Nika asked them.

Joan didn't have to wonder long on what Yahnie Youngblood knew as he continued on and on. She wondered if the headache always came with him talking this much or if it was just her not used to being in this environment. ~We never used to run holodecks this much. Maybe I should retire.~ The girl thought when the captain came back over to the table. Joan smiled up at her.
"Of course we don't mind, captain. How did Tongo go? Personally my mother would kill me if I tried gambling real or not. Then again you don't have to report anything I do directly to her," she said still smiling knowing she was being trouble again. She hoped the captain didn't take her serious on that sentence.
"So, Captain, how long have you been on the Victory?" The teen said when Youngblood took a drink.

Russell laughed as Tiana finished her story, he had never been taught by professor Tablis but he had heard of him while in the academy. Just before he could say anything Tiana asked a question, "So tell me, how did you come to be laying across the corridor anyway." Russell thought for a second, ‘this sounds like a dodge but I haven’t asked anything yet’ quickly remembering why he had ended up on the floor outside the holodeck he replied “well I was on the holodeck during something fun while we are on shore leave, and … well … I slipped over a rock just before the door out and I fell onto the floor” Tiana looked quite sheepish to Russell like she was trying to hid something, "So what's life like on the Victory? She's my first proper starship."
This took Russell a little longer to think on, his first mission on the Victory did not get off on the right foot, ending up being hit round the head and ending up in sickbay. “Well the sickbay is nice, which is always good. umm, to be honest I haven’t been on the victory that long my self so I couldn’t judge it well, though first impressions are good, minus that whole being hit round the head thing” Russell felt awkward while saying this, he didn’t really want to scare her off before he even got to know her, ‘what am I thinking, it’s not like I like her’ shaking his head Russell stood up, “well I think I am going to turn in for the night, we both should get some rest before a new mission turns up or we might not get a chance again for a while” Russell hoped this didn’t sound bad. Receiving a nod from Tiana he said goodnight to her and walked out of her quarters.
<Tag Tiana>
Getting back to his quarters he stumbled in and quickly moved to the bed, “Computer dim lights to 10%” was all Russell could say before he fell asleep.
Russell woke looking around he saw a field stretching as far as he could see, getting up he noticed a building just over the nearby hill. Walking toward the building he noticed that he was wearing a grey Star Fleet shirt with 4 gold bars on his collar, unsure why he was wearing this he continued to the building at the bottom of the hill. When he arrived he looked at the old shell of a building, it looked extremely old, making his way towards what looked like an entrance he saw a shadow move in the corner of his eye. Standing still he watched as the shadow moved slowly as if stalking him, moving quickly he grabbed at what or who was there, he looked at an old man who looked like he must have been in his nineties. “Who are you and why have you been following me?” Russell shouted at the man, “because you told me to give you this when you came to this place” the old man handed him a small orb the shone like water, barely the size of his eye. “what do you mean I told you to, I have never meet you before” Russell said panicking that he was near a mad man “oh but you will” Russell was shocked, “when did I tell you to give me this, and what is this anyway?” The old man looked up and smiled “well you told me when I was …”
Waking suddenly Russell breathed heavily, looking around he saw his own quarters. Sitting up on the side of the bed Russell remembered what he had seen. Moving over to his desk he opened one of the safe boxes and in it lay a small orb that looked like it was made of water, “why can’t I remember what he said next, what is this thing, and why is it so important?” Russell mumbled quietly as if he feared someone was listening, “maybe I should let Tiana take a look at this, maybe she will know what it is” Russell pondered the thought, '“do not show it to anyone, or your will die before you can use it”’ Russell had no idea where that thought had come from but he could not help but accept it for truth. Closing the box Russell returned to his bed and sleep into a deep dreamless sleep.

Nika shrugged slightly when Joan asked how Tongo had gone. “I won some, then I lost it. I don't think I should give up my captain-hood for a life of gambling any time soon. All things considered, that might not be the best option for me.”
Then Commander McCormick asked how long Nika had been aboard the Victory. A while, Nika knew, but just how long was something she had to think a little more about it. She'd changed so much in her time on the Victory. “Twenty months. I've been captain for a year of that time.”
“How about yourself? Not how long you've been on the Victory—I know that, obviously, or at least I hope I do. But how long have you been in Starfleet?” Nika had to admit that she was curious about the very young commander.
After hearing the answer, Nika took a sip of whatever drink the waiter had brought her when she'd asked for something nonalcoholic. Despite the time she'd been off Firont, small talk still wasn't a strong suit for her. What verged on an awkward silence for most people was what Nika thought of as a normal part of conversation. Still, she'd learned what made things awkward for other people, and that meant she didn't let the conversation get to that point.
So the Captain smiled at her new officer. “Why'd you choose to join Starfleet?” Nika asked, the logical follow-up question.

Joan heard the response before the question and smiled realizing her career beginning hadn't be an easy or pretty one. ~At least she didn't ask how it all began.~ She thought before answering.
"I've been an officer for two years now, mostly served in the academy," she said then her face almost fell when the captain asked the next question. She sighed.
"It wasn't pretty, I was an orphan on an alien world. For the 16th birthday they grant a request no matter how large or small. My request was to join Starfleet and give it a go hoping I would be able to stay and escape to a place where I could find more like me. I was allowed to only stay for the training, and then I was to be sent back to the orphanage," she said and took a long sip of her drink. She wasn't sure if she was boring the captain or not.
"So, at my graduation they came to get me to take me home, and it was then that I was adopted. I was allowed to continue as an officer, and have been happily serving in the academy. I thought I needed a change of pace though, the academy was nice, but it was too safe. I realized I am young, and need time to have adventures," she said wondering if she put any one to sleep. Vic had returned from his singing at that point.
"Do you know My Way?" she asked him and he chuckled shaking his head.

<Holodeck2>
After talking to Joan, Yahnie thought to himself that she is only 17 but she is smart and know what she is doing. I am 25 but still she is very attractive but I shouldn’t even be thinking about it. But I am ½ human and have urges. Well back to reality. The Captain broke his thinking while Joan was talking. Commanders McCormick and Youngblood. “Do you mind if I rejoin you?” Nika asked them Yes you may Captain Cir’kem, The waitress came over to the table and asked if they wanted drinks. Yahnie ordered another screwdriver and said to the waitress to put it on his tab and if the ladies at his table wanted some drinks to also put them on his tab. So Captain,” Do you enjoy this program I got from my brother?” As the ladies were talking to one another, the waitress returned with the drinks that was. Yahinie got his drink and saw that Vic finish playing yet another song. Yahnie motioned Vic to come over to the table. Yahnie had said to Vic Would you like a drink? Once more the waitress came over and brought over Vic’s drink. “Waitress would you also put Vic’s drink on my tab?”

Nika could see the visible displeasure in Commander McCormick's face when she asked her question about joining Starfleet. Nika wanted to quickly apologize and explain that the doctor wouldn't have to answer the question if she didn't want to. Nika hadn't meant to upset anyone with it. But Commander McCormick started talking before Nika, and the Captain thought it better not to interrupt, instead listening carefully to the words of the young CMO.
“I somehow think you'll have adventures aplenty on the Victory,” Nika said, thinking over the last few missions. She smiled at the younger officer, then at the hologram when he (it?) returned. The whole idea of holographic interactions still confused her. Holograms, she could deal with. But having holograms whose main purpose was simply to talk to people. It just seemed a little strange.
So when Lieutenant Youngblood asked his question: “Do you enjoy this program I got from my brother?” Nika was ready for it.
“Yes,” she answered honestly. “It's all fairly unfamiliar though.” She lingered a while longer, listening to Vic and finishing her drink. When she suppressed a yawn for the second time, she figured that it was about time for her to retire. The prospect of a good nights sleep was appealing, mostly because it hadn't happened in a while. “Lieutenant, Commander,” Nika said to the officers, “I'm going to head now. Enjoy yourselves, for the rest of the shoreleave, in case I don't see you again before we're heading out again.”
After stopping by the bridge to make sure there was nothing that required her approval and that the repairs were heading forward mostly according to schedule, Nika returned to her quarters. She checked to see if she'd gotten a reply to the message she'd sent to the Ambassador on Firont, but she hadn't yet. Having done so, Nika got ready for bed and fell asleep fairly quickly.

Russell stood up “well I think I am going to turn in for the night, we both should get some rest before a new mission turns up or we might not get a chance again for a while”
Tiana nodded as he said 'good night' and restrained herself from walking the three or four steps to the door to see him off.
When Russell had left Tiana walked over the the nearest bulkhead and began to gently knock her head against it. She hadn't even been on this ship a day yet and she was all ready carrying on like this... It wasn't like her to start flirting with someone at first meeting.
Although she knew Russell's advice was probably very good Tiana knew there was no way she was going to be able to sleep at least for a while so she decided to try to locate the science labs and try to find out something about her staff.

Tiana wandered the practically empty corridors of the Victory. It did not take her too long to locate the main science labs, although she ended up taking a slight diversion by mistake.
To her surprise the lab was no empty. A dark haired woman was sitting at one of the consoles poring over a screen full of data.
"Hello," the woman said. "Are you looking for someone, sir?Tiana shook her head.
"I'm Acting Ensign Tiana Galwyn, the Victory's new Chief Science Officer. I was just having a look around. I didn't expect to find anyone here. You are..."
"Crewman Martha Hernandez," she said. "I'm assigned to Stellar Cartography. Pleased to meet you sir"
"Pleased to meet you too. Feel free to call me Tiana as we aren't on duty. How come you aren't on Assailant enjoying your leave?"
Martha shrugged, "there's a problem in the feedback between the sensors and stellar cartography. Engineering says it's nothing to do with them so I'm trying to find the problem manually." She sighed. "it's not that it makes all that much difference, maybe 0.5 seconds on data retrieval but it shouldn't be there and now I've found it I want to fix it"
Tiana nodded slowly she understood that drive only too well. "I think," she said pulling a chair over next to Martha."That there's a locked file, probably old data that is forcing the data stream to divert around it." Martha's eye's lit up and the two of them set to work.
Tiana was pleased of the distraction, it took her mind of the fact that she was going to have to have her physical and psychological assessments at some point. Strangely enough she was rather looking forward to the latter.
