It had been about a week ago that the Borg threat was eliminated, and it had been a week for Loskene to make a recovery. He had been on active duty for two days now, still feeling a bit drowsy but the pain was gone. He felt on top of the world, or the galaxy for that matter.
The Jefferson also got a break from action, performing long range scans of unusual spatial phenomena. Pasek was having a field day with the sensors. Loskene was now on the bridge when the hailing alarm went off...
Aral Gibson: Sir, we are being hailed by Starfleet.
Loskene: On screen please.
Aral Gibson: They wish to speak with you, alone sir.
Loskene: Very well, in my ready room.
Loskene activated his computer, and the usual Federation emblem came up, followed by a visual of a middle aged man.
Loskene: Ah, Admiral McKinness, it has been a while.
McKinness: Loskene... Indeed it has been a while. How are you? I heard that you were recovering from a deadly ailment.
Loskene: I'm good sir thanks.
McKinness: Well, let's cut right to the chase now, shall we? I hear that the Jefferson is currently performing scans on unusual phenomena. Well, I got something that will knock your socks off.
A diagram appeared on Loskene's screen. It was a large cloudy object.
McKinness: Notice anything strange?
Loskene: No I...wait...what- It's growing?
McKinness: Correct. It's been doing that for a couple of weeks now... We don't know what the hell is going on. All we know is that it is growing faster as the days go on. We classified it as a class VII nebula... But it seems that there's more to it then meets the eye. Anyway, we want you to investigate it. See what it is, and conduct scans. I may even want you to enter the nebula if you deem it safe enough.
Loskene: I understand sir. Sounds intriuging.
McKinness: It is located in the Yalac sector, in an area that hasn't been fully explored yet...
Loskene: Seems as though we are truly sailing into the unknown. Well sir, I'll be there on the double.
McKinness: Great. McKinness out.
Loskene straigthened his uniform and walked out onto the bridge and informed his bridge staff of the new mission...

"A growing Nebula? Never heard of that before...." Aral's voice trailed off.
"Sounds interesting, such a chemical reaction might cause something like that, but unlikely...." Mike started.
Loskene sat down in his chair, "Well, Mr. Pasek, we wouldn't be going to investigate it if it was usual."
Mike nodded, "Very true sir." He swiveled his chair back into its proper position.
"This could rack havoc on the sheilds, Did starfleet happen to send any upgrades?" Aral said with bright eyes.
Loskene glanced back up at him with a grin, "Keep wishing Lt. Cmdr."
"Aye Cap'n." Aral smiled to himself.
Loskene tapped a button on his side console and then looked to Cavit who was twidling her thumbs in between tapping a button every few minutes.
"Lt. Cavit."
She jumped slightly, "Yes?"
"Set a course for the Yalac sector."
"Right'o." And she concentrated on her console for a moment then said, "Course set."
"Engage."
OFF: Sorry for the captain Picard line, I couldn't help myself. ;D

OCC: Sorry for not posting for so long, itβs been a bumpy ride for me this last couple of days.
Mike was on his feet again for two days now. The doctor was kind and merciful enough to let him leave sickbay and now he was doing his assignments around the ship as usual. Tomora and Telak (NPCs) were very happy to have him back and the three were running and buzzing all over the ship, or to be more precise, from main bridge to astrometrics and back. If they continued this hyperactive walking for one more day, they would probably make a whole in the floor deckplateing. Itβs not certain why Telak and Tomora did it but Mike was doing it just because he was happy to be on his feet again. He also let Orko on the bridge for the first time. Although the crew felt strange at first, after and hour they got used to the strange robot hovering around the bridge. The biggest surprise was that he ignored the ramps and paths that were designed for movement around the bridge and instead he flew over railings and consoles from time to time, but Mike cleared that mess up with a few simple explanations. While he was conducting another one of the sensor sweeps, Mike was called to the captains ready room along with other officers. After sitting down, the commodore explained the situation. It was most intriguing. A growing nebula. The only live space object that he ever heard of was Antilios but that was planet not a nebula, and it didnβt grow at all. This mission will we pure pleasure for him, he thought, since he loved exobiology and anthropology very much and now, possibly a completely new species was waited for him out there waiting to be discovered. The meeting was over and they set course for the Yalac sector, while Mike started brushing up on his biology.

Commodore Loskene viewed Pasek's console. He observed the expansion of the nebula.
Pasek: It seems to be growing larger by the hour...maybe even minute. This raises some interesting questions. Perhaps this is how galaxies are formed...
Loskene: Intriuging. Ms. Cavit, when will we arrive.
Cavit: The computer says 30 minutes but it looks a whole lot closer then that!
Pasek: Sir, we are now within range to launch a long range probe.
Loskene: Go ahead, Mr. Pasek.
The Jefferson fired one modified torpedo out of it's aft torpedo launcher.
Pasek: I'm starting to pick up telemetry sir... It- um...
Loskene: Yes?
Pasek: We have lost contact with the probe sir. All I'm reading is static...
Loskene: Was it destroyed?
Gibson: We would have seen an explosion from here.
Pasek: Shall I try again sir.
Loskene stared at the viewscreen, baffled.
Loskene: Yeah...go ahead.
The Jefferson fired another probe...
Pasek: The probe is on course.... Not again!
Loskene: We've lost that one as well?
Pasek: Yes sir, and we lost it in the exact same time span as the other probe...
Loskene: Some kind of energy barrier...?
Pasek: We'll never know unless we take a closer look.
Loskene: Then that is what we must do. Lieutenant Cavit, take us in...

This sounds very ...... How shall I say ...... Fascinating. A Class VII Nebula growing at an unusual rate." T'Ale comments, her Vulcan curiousity peaked.
As the ship draws closer to the nebula, 2 probes are launched ...... and promptly disappeared.
~This gets more and more fascinating and yet intriguing at the same time, as if the Nebula is either being influenced by an unknown natural reation or somehow being manipulated by unseen hands. T'Ale shudders at the thought that this may not quite be an easy ride once again.~

Commander 1st class Mc 7_of_9 entered the bridge.
Loskene: Ah, commander. You are just in time.
Both the commander and the Commodore looked up at the viewscreen. A dark blue bubbling cloud, looking like soup in a cauldron was just ahead...
Mc 7_of_9: Permission to take my station, sir?
Loskene: Permission granted. Welcome aboard.
Cavit: ETA is 15 minutes sir.
The ship began to rock.
T'Ale: Hm?
Mc 7_of_9: We are encountering a storm of some sort. No damage to the ship though.
Loskene: Not yet anyway.

Mc7 tapped a few commands into his console and took some readings of the newly formed storm. It appeared to be a electromagnetic storm, but he didn't understand how that was possible in space. In an atmposphere yes, but in space? As he checked various readings on his screen he noticed that there was a slightly elevated leval of hexagal Radiation. Nothing the shields coudn't handle, but still something that warranted keeping an eye on. "Sir, there is a slight build up of Hexegal radiation around the ship. It's nothing that will cause problems, the shields can take a much higher leval than there is, but I thought you should know about it." The Commodore looked at the new Operations Officer from a PADD he was holding, "What is causing this build up, Commander?" "Unknown at the moment Sir, but I will try and find out." "Very good Commander, and keep me informed if the leval of radiation changes," and with that, the CO returned his attention to the PADD in his hand. 15 minutes laterThis didn't make any sense. The radiation leval was still increasoing slowly. After double checking his readings, the Commander made his report to the CO. "Commodore, the radiation leval is increasing. It's a very slow increase, but it is happening. I estimate that it will reach levals high enough to penetrate the sheilds within 5 hours, and at the present rate of increase, it will be at lethal RAD count within 7 hours." OCC: Just want to say hey to everyone. I'm glad to be aboard the Jefferson, and I look forward to simming with all of you!

As Cavit guided them closer and closer to the nebula the bridge crew became more and more tense.
Aral shook his head to remove a bit of the tension in his body, he looked down to where Loskene was seated, tapping his foot in a nervous manner. "Cap'n if those probes were destroyed..... it may be able to do quite a number on the shields...."
"I know, Mr. Gibson."
Aral nodded, "Just reminding you, sir."
Loskene ignored him, Aral knew the Commodore was also very nervous.
Aral re-ran the shield scan for at least the 5th time. Everything seemed fine, but.... that nebula-thing, could do anything.
Pasek had his head propped up on his hands, enveloped in the information on his console, Aral could here him muttering things once in a while,
"The chemical reaction causes....","The broken rock pulls the gravity...", "Interferance during the creation disturbs.....".
The Tactical officer smiled despite the tension, Mike was the most devoted officer he knew, Aral knew Mike had deprived himself of nights a' many of sleep while working on some problem or another.
The new OPS officer Mc 7_0f_9 had been reporting on some of the radiation the sensors were picking up. The information was very important, the radiation could cause problems if they were exposed to it without shields.
"Gibson, how are those scans on th-" Loskene began before Cavit shouted from her station.
"The probe!"
Aral pulled up sensor readouts and quickly scaned the probe which had just opened back into clear space from the nebula.
"It's badly damaged sir! Hull collapse imminent!" Gibson reported.
"Tractor beam, Mc 7_of_9!" Loskene shouted, but before the ops officer could even move, a blast of light filled the screen contrasting greatly to the elegant yet dangerous nebula in the background.
"Damn." Pasek cursed from the Science console.
They stood in silence thinking about the lost information, when Aral noticed the 2nd probe emerge from the growing nebula.
"Sir!" he shouted, Mc 7_of_9 was already on it.
"Pulling it into the cargo bay, Commodore!" He shouted as his hands flashed across the console.
"Requesting permission to meet it there sir!" Pasek said as he got up.
"Me as well sir." Aral looked at the captain.
"Granted," Loskene said, "Mc 7_of_9, you might want to join them."
"Yessir."
Cavit jumped to her feet, and grinned at the commodore.
"Why don't we all just have a party in cargo bay 4?!" Loskene said sarcastically, before grinning back at her, "Yes, Lt. Cmdr. Cavit, you will be useful as well."
"Aye captain." and Strife joined the rest as they entered the turbolift.
