About two hours after beginning the holosuite program, Meylor had finally had enough. This isn't helping much, he thought. So far, every variation on Altonian meditational aids were only causing him to dwell on his frustration and depression. Neither feeling was particularly dire, but he did need to overcome them, and he was rapidly coming to see that this futile exercise was not conducive to relaxation and a healthy freeing of his burdens, as he had been recommended to do by the Counselor and ordered to do by the First Officer. Perhaps he should just go with the flow. Like a branch floating on the waves of a mighty stream, as his mother used to say. What did he have to loose, besides the mind-numbing experience of another few hours spent in unproductive self-recrimination?
He decided to return to a cozy-looking establishment on a corner he had passed earlier, and was immediately pleased when he got there. It looked like one of those `pubs` his maternal grandfather, who had lived his whole life in the Irish countryside, once took him to as child during a visit to Earth. The sounds and smells brought back a little of that memory to him, and for the first time that day, Meylor began to feel at ease, ever-so-slightly. Catching a glimpse of the Ensign Caldwell, one of the Vesuvius nurses, he offered a tentative greeting. The man, apparently in a cheery, somehwat inebriated condition, gave a hearty `Good day to you!`, and after pointing out that Meylor seemed a bit pale, he waved a dismissive hand and pointed at his collar, missing his intended target by a few inches.
"That's Lieutenant, by the way, sir...I finally did it!"

Mc7_of_9 listened carefully to what Sonak was telling him. He could understand how she felt, for what she described feeling was some of the feelings he had when he thought about his time with the collective. Being violated. Being forced to violate others. As he listened, he found it harder and harder to concentrate what Sonak was telling him, for in his mind all he could see was the inside of a borg sphere. Borg. Everywhere.
Mc7 realised that Sonak had stopped talking. He snapped back to reality, and wondered how long Sonak had been sitting in silence.
I really can understand the situation your in. When I was with the collective, it was just as a tramatic an experiance as what you've jsut recently been put through. I know that nothing I can say will make you feel any better, as I had half of Starfleet Medical's Counselling staff try all but every approach on me. All I can really say to you is that my door is always open, and if your not here, then call me on anytime, and I really do mean anytime, that you ever feel you want to talk. Even if it's just to have someone to have a rant at. I know that sometimes that's all I wanted to do, so please, if that Vulcan exterior does crack, let it out.
Sonak looked at mc7, unsure of what to say now. After a few seconds, mc7 continued,
Right, how about we go and get that lunch that we haven't yet managed to have! And after lunch, you will have the tastiest dessert, and that's an order Commodore!
A small smile started to appear on Sonak's face.
Yes Sir

The two of them walked out of the admiral's office, and Sonak just allowed herself being led to wherever the admiral had planned for them to have lunch. She didn't know all the establishments on the station, since the Vesuvius usually never docked for a long period of time.
The stopped before a Klingon restaurant, and Sonak raised at eyebrow at her friend. "They do serve lunch for vegetarians I hope?" she asked.
MC7 nodded, smiling as he gestured for her to precede him. "This restaurant serves all kinds of food," he said, "and they serve the best desserts."
Looking thoughtful, Sonak took his word for granted, and preceded him. They were seated near a window, which, surprisingly had a view on her own ship. "It does look lovely," she commented, not being used to a Klingon restaurant looking this pleasant.
Now, however, the dull pain in her abdomen was beginning to annoy her. "MC7, please remind me to walk past sickbay after lunch," she said, "I am still not feeling very well.
It was only after they had finished lunch and they were walking back to his office, when suddenly the pain intensified. She cried out in pain, folding her hands over her abdomen. Worried, MC7 caught her, and held her up. She shook her head, feeling something wet run past her leg. Without looking, she knew it was blood. "Sickbay," she gasped, and instantly the surroundings of the corridor were replaced by the sterile environment of the starbase sickbay.
"Call Jatan," Sonak urged her friend, as nurses helped her onto a biobed. "Please...call him."
MC7 nodded, and walked off to call Jatan Reckus. "Admiral MC7of9 to Commander Jatan Reckus, report to Vesuvius' primary sickbay, urgent!" he called.
ooc: edited my post to say vesuvius sickbay, going on what Caldwell posted.

Snowfal thought deeply for a moment. "Well, I'd say we go to Burger King," she said, "but I guess the kids are vegetarian huh? There's this nice Vulcan restaurant on the station, serves delicious vegetarian salads and burgers and such. They do have meat dishes too....fortunately."
Jatan's stomach suddenly rumbled, and the kids burst into giggles. "Sounds good to my stomach!" he grinned, winking at her.
She scooped up little Shanna, who squirmed in her arms. "Wanna walk," the child said. Snowfall set the child down again, and held out a paw for her to hold, as Reckus picked Seliv up and hoisted him onto his shoulders, and held on to his little legs. Sevus was happy to trot along side Jatan.
"Ready?" she asked, as T'Kimi took her other paw. "Good, let's go eat then...I can hear your tummies rumble from here!" The children giggled and she corked her tail into a tight screw. "Nice kids," she commented to Jatan, "but why do the younger call you 'dad', while the elder call you 'uncle'?"
"Well Sevus and T'Kimi are old enough to remember their father. And I certainly dont want to cause any disrespect to his memory." he replied. "And the whole 'Uncle' tag was in place before Sonak and I got together"
"I see" said Snowfall, nodding.
"And Sonak asked me to be godfather anyway to the younger two, so since then she wanted them to have a father figure in their lives...." he became misty eyed as he spoke. "And one day, Shanna called me Daddy, and it seemed so natural that it has stuck since"
Snowfall studied his face carefully. "Would you get married do you think?" she asked him finally, noticing that he turned a slight shade of red after that question.
"I would very much like to," he said. "But it's a case of when the time is right. I dont want her to feel like I am rushing her into anything." They pulled up as they came to the restaurant. "But you didnt hear that from me" he winked at her.
She smiled back "have no fear - if it gets out, it shall not be from me". She then began to herd the kids into the restaurant. "Come now, lets have some food"

John was drunk...not just slightly tipsy but full blown inebriated. The regulars in the bar had kept him topped up with drinks all day. He heard a voice and looked across to where it was coming from. 'Good day to you!' he said as he realised it was Meylor Paht. "Are you OK sir? You're looking a wee bit on the pale side?"
"I'm fine thank you Ensign Caldwell. You seem to be enjoying yourself" Paht replied.
Meylor noticed a grin creep across Caldwell's face as Caldwell tried to point to his shoulder/neck area but missed by a considerable amount.
"That's Lieutenant, by the way, sir...I finally did it!" answered John cheerfully.
"Lieutenant?" he asked puzzled.
"Yeah - Commander Harper came over earlier to tell me that I had passed my medics module and that Starfleet have had me promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade" he replied, even more cheerfully.
"Well congratulations" replied Paht. "Let me get you another"
"Will you join me for one or two?" asked Caldwell.
"Well maybe for one or two...."
Several hours later, and after finally thanking everyone, they both staggered from the bar and headed back down the main promenade, drunkenly smiling at everyone that passed them
"I'm hungry" hiccuped Meylor. John too realised that he was suffering from a alcohol induced 'munchies'.
"hmmm me too. Come on, lets go in here" replied Caldwell and they nipped into a takeaway place not too far from where the Vesuvius was docked.
Caldwell glanced over the menu board and decided on a turkish shish kebab with all the trimmings - including chilli sauce.
"I seriously suggest that you try one of these" said Caldwell. He had been introduced to them by Jatan and his medical colleagues. Maylor didnt seem too keen, peering over the counter to see what was going in to Caldwell's kebab.
"C'mon! Even Chris Majeski found himself rather impressed by this culinary masterpiece" he added.
"Ok then, make that 2 kebabs" he said to the android behind the counter.
Soon they found themselves back outside, carrying on towards the ship. They were stopped in their tracks by a call from Jatan.
=^= John, get yourself over to the main sickbay. I need you there =^=
"You cant go like this" said Paht worriedly.
"I've got an idea....but we need to get back to Sickbay on the ship" Caldwell replied. "Let's go"

After Nephi had spent quite a few minutes looking over the ship's systems, Nephi decided it was a better idea to follow Nick's advice. He wanted to go find some fun. He left Engineering and the ship. He went back to the Restaurant District. He wandered around, looking around, trying to decide what to do. He turned, and a group of three people that seemed vaguely of familiar. Although Nephi didn't know any of them, all three appeared to be Inuit, like himself. They were smaller, stout individuals with tan skin and thick black hair. They noticed him, spoke to each other in low voices for a moment, then came towards him. There were two males, one in a red uniform and one in a gold uniform, and a female, also in a gold uniform. They were all Lt JGs, like himself. The male in the gold uniform was in the lead and spoke first. "Pardon me, but we were wondering. You wouldn't happen to be Inuit, would you?" Nephi smiled broadly. So they were Inuit. This was a good day. "In fact, yes I am. Nephi Jacobson," he said, as he extended his hand. The other gladly clasped it. "Alma Grant. And allow me to introduce the others. This is Michael Reesin, and Mary Tatli." The other two in turn shook his hand. Alma spoke again. "What ship are you assigned to?" "I've been assigned to the Vesuvius-A," he said, proudly. He then noticed the faces of the others light up further. "Yes, its a good ship, isnt it." Michael now chose to speak. "That it is. And we should know, as we're all on the Vesuvius as well. I'm a relief Helm, Mary is in Security, and Alma is an Engineer." Mary now chimed in as well. "Well, this is a very good day. Yet another one of Our People has joined us." Nephi's stomach growled. "Anybody up for something to eat? I'm starving." Mary smiled. "He certainly is an Inuit, alright. Always hungry. Yes, we were about to get something to eat ourselves. Join us." They walked down the Promenade together. They found one restaurant whose menu seemed to be heavy in meat, and they each turned towards it. When they sat down, Alma spoke up. "So Nephi, whats your real name?" Nephi looked at him. Not many people asked this. "My Inuit name?" Alma nodded. "Iluak." Michael responded. " 'Person who does good things' A good name. I am Atiing, meaning 'fearless'. Mary spoke next. "And I am Ahnah." Nephi thought that appropriate. " 'Wise Woman', an appropriate name for someone in Security." Alma and Mary both looked eager to say something. Alma chose to say it. "So, which are you, Engineering or Security?" Nephi knew he would have to reveal who he was eventually. "Engineering," he said simply. "Ah, good. What are you? An Engineers Assistant? A Specialist?" Now he would have to say it. "Actually, neither. I'm the new Chief Engineer." "Yes, I had heard that Commander O'Malley was quite annoyed about being passed up for someone of lesser rank. Be careful of her." Nephi sighed. "Yes, unfortunately I've already seen that." Mark Harper was pleased to find the ship all in working order. The sand had been purged from all systems and everything was operating again as it should be. Suddenly, he grinned mischievously causing Fox to look up at him questioningly. "Watch this," he said, "computer, engage cloaking device." A slight ripple went over the viewscreen and Harper smiled. "The bridge is all yours commander," he grinned...... After Harper walked off Fox turned back to his console making a last check on the docking systems. Then he asked the computer to locate Wendy. The computer replied that she was in the science labs at Bellicose. Feeling his stomack rumble he next asked the computer what time it was. "It is 12:25." the computer replied. ~Good time to have lunch~ Fox thought and tabbed his combadge to ask Wendy to join. The two met just outside the docking bay and went to restaurant to have lunch. Unfortunately Wendy also had to work that afternoon, so after their lunch Fox walked her to the science labs. "See you tonight." they both said almost at the same time when they arrived and kissed eachother goodbye. Wendy went into the science labs and Fox wandered off through the corridors of Bellicose. He decided to go to the promenade to look around the shops there, maybe buy a little gift for Wendy. Wandering around there he came by a jewelry show and sighted a nice looking necklace. ~Perfect for Wendy~ he thought, but before he could inform about the price he got called. >>Commander, i hope ur informed about the training course you're scheduled for.<< >>No im not, sir.<< Fox replied. >>Well tomorrow you're scheduled for an addictional piloting course, it will be given to every navigation officer to get them familiar with new developments. So report at the docking bay tomorrow morning 7:00 hours.<< >>Alright, sir. Fox out.<< ~There goes my day off~ Fox thought and left the store, getting back to the Vesuvius. Once on the ship he went to the holodecks and let the computer start his piloting training simulations to prepair for tomorrows course.

They all managed to find a table for 6 by the window. As usual the 4 kids were arguing who was going to sit by who, and in the end it was decided that Sevus and Shanna would sit on either side or Snowfall and Reckus had Seliv and T'Kimi fencing him in.
"Quite a handfull!" exclaimed Snowfall.
"Hmmm" said Jatan in agreement. "They have certainly developed less like Vulcan kids should do in a 'normal' strict environment" he added.
"Now what do you want?" he asked looking through a menu.
"Veggie burger!" said Sevus immediately.
"With curly fries" added T'Kimi. "And I would like a mango milkshake" she added.
Jatan rolled his eyes. ~ Mango Milkshake?! ~ he thought to himself. ~ Whatever next?! ~
"And what would you like my darlings?" he asked Seliv and Shanna, who were testing the menus durability by putting the corners in their mouths. "Oh dont do that, thats dirty" he added, whisking the menus from them.
"Shall we get some veggie sticks?" he asked. They both nodded in response.
"Aww bless them" Snowfall said, watching them play. "And what would the good doctor be having?"
"Ooh now...I think it'll have to be...." Jatans stomach was distracted momentarily by his com badge sparking into life.
=^= Admiral MC7of9 to Commander Jatan Reckus, report to Vesuvius' primary sickbay, urgent! =^=
"what the?!" Jatan looked puzzled, then immediately got the feeling Sonak was not well. ~ Sweetheart what's wrong? ~ he sent out but all he got back was this nauseous feeling like someone had kicked him in the stomach. ~ Hold on, I'm coming sonak ~
He turned to Snowfall. "Do you mind keeping an eye on them for me?" he asked her. She did not hesitate.
"Of course, go Commander. I will keep them occupied for a while. I shall wait to hear from you"
"Thank you so much. Now, be good for Snowfall all of you" he made his way around the table, kissing each childs head. "I'll see you later"
With that he raced off out of the door. He could have transported himself there but it made more sense to run. As he was running towards the ship he asked for Caldwell to meet him there. Caldwell knew how Sonaks health had been and had done the most recent scans....
Although the restaurants were on the other side of the base from where the Vesuvius was docked, Jatan was on the ship in just under 3 mins. Panting slightly, he got into the turbolift. "Sickbay" he said. ~ What's happening?~ he asked himself.
He raced out of the lift door and down the corridor to sickbay. When he got there he found Mc7 helping Sonak up onto a biobed.
"Sonak - whats the matter?" he asked, grabbing a tricorder from the trolley. He glanced over at Mc7
"Admiral, what happened?" he asked.

Sonak cast a painful glance in Jatan's direction, but was very grateful for the admiral's support. "T-thank y-you," she managed, as she was at last lying comfortably on the biobed. Being a medical doctor herself, she knew exactly what had happened, but despite feeling a little sad, relief washed over her.
Suddenly, Jatan appeared beside her, and in the background she heard Caldwell. "Jatan?" she asked, wondering what he was doing here. ~MC must've called him~ she realised.
She heard him ask MC7 what happened. "She suddenly collapsed," MC7 explained, not entirely sure what had happened, "she insisted on being taken to sickbay."
"I will be fine," Sonak assured her friends, but particularly wanted to reassure Jatan, but the pain in her abdomen was unbearable. She rolled onto her side, trying to get more comfortable. "I miscarried," she whispered, as Jatan came closer. She wanted to say more, that she hadn't wanted the child, but she knew Jatan loved children and thus she didn't say it.
"I will be fine now," she repeated.

Snowfall gazed after the retreating physician and shook her head. She sensed by instinct that something was wrong, and it didn't concern just your regular patient. However in the presence of the children she didn't ask; instead she focused on her food, and the food of the children.
It didn't take long for their lunch to arrive, and Snowfall made sure that the children ate everything. The younger twins needed a bit of help in getting their food into their mouths properly. She gathered that the one-year olds were only just learning how to feed themselves. "My my you two are messy eaters," she laughed, as she wiped remains of the veggie stick off Shanna's face. "Did your parents not teach you to eat with knife and fork?"
The children nodded quietly, but laughed when little Seliv snatched at her tail. "Oooh it's like this isn't it?" Snowfall purred, dangling her tail before the boy again. This time, she snatched his wrist with her tail, sending the boy into a laughing fit.
"Honestly, you kids should learn how to behave more like Vulcans," Snowfall said earnestly, "but there's still time for that. Come if you've finished your lunch we'll go back to the playground." She held out her paws for the younger twins to hold on to.
"Why hello Snowfall!" they suddenly heard behind them, as they were about to exit the restaurant. The Sivaoan turned and gazed at her copper-coloured friend Firestorm. "What've we got here?" he asked, pointing his tail at the four children. Since when do you play babysitter?"
"Since the commodore is having a lunch date, and the doctor was just called away on an emergency," Snowfall replied, "what're you doing here?"
"Having lunch," Firestorm replied, then sagged down on all fours. "Fancy a ride?" he asked, then looked up at snowfall. "Where were you heading? I'll meet you there."
"Playground and do be careful, they're just barely a year old," Snowfall cautioned.
"You know me," Firestorm replied as he scooped up Seliv and Shanna and deposited them on his back. "Hang on!" he meowed, and took off in a run. On his back, the twins squealed with delight.
"Oh well," Snowfall muttered, "Im sorry, you two will be too heavy but feel free to run after them. I will follow shortly." T'Kimi and Sevus nodded, and ran after their younger siblings.
Snowfall remained behind and tapped her combadge. "Snowfall to MC7, how is she?" she asked, not wanting to disturb Doctor Reckus. Next, she tapped her combadge again. "Snowfall to Commander Martens, we have a little situation. For the moment, you're in command of the Vesuvius. Contact Admiral MC7 for further detail."
She didn't want to worry the crew unnecessarily, but since she knew what was playing she thought, as security officer, she might as well warn the Vesuvius XO that something was up and that his CO would not be fit to command for a few days. She also knew, that the Vesuvius was very likely to ship out again, within those few days.

John and Maylor made their way to the Vesuvius, wobbling slightly less then they did earlier. Bad news always sobered people up quickly.... They finally reached the ship and took the turbo lift up to sickbay. Meylor was starting to feel a little sick but it wasnt long before they entered through the doors to the bay and Caldwell started to fumble round in one of the drawers. "A ha!" he exclaimed. "Here ya go Maylor, have one of these" he said.
"What are they?" Paht asked, sniffing a tablet.
"They're a special tablet that was formed a few years back to help combat hangovers. But you cant really get them anymore as there is a spray version that has proved more popular" replied Caldwell, busily munching on one. "It helps to disperse the alcohol quicker and therefore you dont feel as awful"
"Well are there any side effects?" asked Meylor, taking one from the packet and carefully placing it in his mouth.
"No, the only thing is, they make you pee more" replied Caldwell, laughing. "It's just a way for the toxins to be released"
John suddenly noticed that Admiral Mc7 and Sonak had materialised in the main sickbay.
"Commander, some help here please!" ordered Mc7.
Meylor walked over to help the Admiral.
"Computer, display Commodore Sonak's medical records" ordered John. As he was doing that, Jatan ran in to the Sickbay

After some good meat and a lovely conversation, Nephi sat up and wiped his mouth. He then stood up. "Well I'd better get back to the Vesuvius. There's plenty of things I need to do before we set off again and I havent really done any of them."
Mary spoke up. "Alright, we'll see you onboard."
Nephi turned and left. He headed once again to the Vesuvius. This time, the guard just let him pass, having recognized him. Nephi entered the ship, and headed to Main Engineering on Deck 16. He entered.
Commander O'Malley was near the Core, checking something on a console. He approached her. "Commander, full status report."
She looked up at him then looked back down. "We're doing fine, Lt."
"Could you be a little more detailed there, Commander."
She looked up and sighed. She looked at the wall behind him as she spoke to him. "Warp Core is operating normally, as are shields, weapons, navigation, propulsion, and any other system you would care to mention." She turned away again.
He stepped up to the console and looked her in the face. "Look, Commander, I know you're unhappy about me being appointed over you. But please realize I had nothing to do with the decision. I wasn't aware I was being appointed over someone of your rank. So could we please just try and make the best of it? I don't want this ship to have problems because the Chief Engineer and Assistant Chief Engineer have personal differences."

The tricorder readings were unmistakable....and they were confirmed by Sonak who softly revealed to him that she had miscarried.
~ But we havent.... ~ he thought to himself. ~ Everything else but the whole thing... ~
"I'll be right back" he said to her as he made his way to the console.
"Does this include the most recent tests and scans?" he asked Caldwell.
"Yes Doctor" he replied, not knowing how Jatan's mood would go yet.
Reckus tapped his Comm badge.
=^= Reckus to Commander Martens. Please report to Main Sickbay office =^=
He knew Nick wouldnt be too happy at being disturbed but he had to make a decision that every CMO hoped he or she wouldnt have to do.
"hmmm" and he exhaled deeply. ~ Those [word deleted] must have done this to her ~ he thought, carefully shielding his thoughts so Sonak wouldnt pick up on them. ~ Should have just pulled my phaser on them ~ He then scolded himself for being so irrational.
He went back over to Sonak. "Why didnt you tell me?" he asked, stroking her hair.
"I was afraid..." she began. She noticed tears form in his eyes. ~ I love you so much ~ she thought to him.
"I love you too" he whispered. "Everythings going to be ok"
Mc7 was getting a bit uncomfortable.
"Will the patient be ok?" he asked.
Jatan snapped out of his mood as quickly as he had fallen into it.
"She will be fine Admiral" he replied. "But I will be relieving you of duty for a while" he said, looking back at her. She nodded, without arguement. She knew he was right, and besides, she didnt have the energy to argue. By this time Nick walked in. "Commodore, what has happened?" he asked.
"Jatan will explain things to you Nick" she said wearily.
"I shall leave you alone with the Admiral" said Jatan, squeezing her arm. "John, please administer 10ml in 100 of sedative" he said. "She needs to rest"
Nick followed Jatan into the office and closed the door.
"Whats happened?" he asked concerned. Jatan looked at him and looked away.
"She's had a miscarriage" he said quietly.
"Oh my god" replied Nick. "Jate, that's awful..." he shot him a glance. "Was it..."
"No, no" interupted Jatan. "We er...we havent got to that bit yet" he looked at Nick angrily. "it must have been those....those...I cant call them anything else but truely evil fiends in that desert" he said.
"We shoulda just shot 'em on sight" said Nick. "I hope to god that they didnt get to L'Ola too" he said suddenly.
"I dont know. Anyway, just to let you know that I am relinquishing her of her command for the time being. She is in no fit state if we get sent on another mission suddenly" Reckus said, sitting in the chair.
"So, that means...." Nick started, trailing off.
"It means, that you are in charge of the Vesuvius until I give her the all clear buddy"
Nick whistled....he couldnt believe it.

Sonak felt the pressure of a hypospray against her throat, and gradually felt her attention for her surroundings weaken. She was aware of MC7 sitting beside her and she gave his hand a reassuring squeeze. Then she heard Nick's voice, and she remembered the PADD with Branson's notes. She wanted them fixed after all, should anyone get the idea of sending an inspector again in the future.
"Nick!" she called weakly, as the sedative kicked in, "Branson's notes...give them..." She fought to remain awake a few seconds longer. "New chief engineer," she finished, and closed her eyes, allowing the sedative to do it's work. She knew once she would wake up again, she'd feel much better. She also expected the counselor to be present when she woke up, even though she didn't feel like talkng to him much.
Her grip on MC7's hand slacked as she gradually fell asleep, every muscle in her body relaxing in the process.

"Kal-toh" Lucy grinned.
L'Ola sighed, "I can't believe it, not again."
"Hey, I lived on Vulcan longer than you did. Besides, since I started teaching some of my friends here I gained a new perspective of the whole thing."
"Hope you beat them too."
"Of course." Lucy started packing the game away. The door chime went off. "Come in" *whoever you are* she added silently.
To the surprise of both of them it was Nick that walked in. The expression on his face was difficult to work out, but one thing was for certain, it wasn't good.
He looked straight at L'Ola, "I need to talk to you about something concerning you, the Commodore, and last mission."
"Oh" L'Ola's face fell. She'd been trying to forget the whole thing, from hitting one of her captors to running from sickbay. "What do you need to know?"
Nick glanced at Lucy. She glared back, "I'm a walking piece of confidential information. I can keep secrets. On the other hand, this thing called telepathy means she can't keep secrets from me."
"Okay, you can stay, but it's not exactly fun. I've just come here from sickbay... where I was asked to take command of the Ves for the time being."
"WHAT? What's happened?" L'Ola wasn't sure what to think.
He took a deep breath in, "Sonak just had a miscarriage, and from what we can tell the father was one of her captors. I know you don't want to talk about what happened down on that planet, but did anything similar happen to you?"
L'Ola was shocked. She had had no idea. They'd been separated for so long. "N-no. Nothing like that happened to me at all..." There was the sound of someone crying. "Lucy?"
A small but determined voice spoke up. "Commodore Sonak must feel terrible to lose her baby."
Nick was surprised, "What makes you say that? It's not like she wanted it."
Lucy stood up and walked over to them. "What makes you think it makes any difference?" She looked at L'Ola, "Tell me, if it happened to you, would you care about what happened to your baby?"
"I'm not sure. I guess I would..."
"Well you would. You'd care enough to look after her and bring her up yourself. You'd care enough to use all your power to give her the best life possible. And you'd care enough to take her with you everywhere and always tell her the truth."
Nick's eyes widened, Lucy sat back down, a little shaken, and L'Ola was too shocked to do anything. If Lucy meant what it seemed she did... "I had no idea."
"That's what the temporal prime directive does. But I guess you do now." Lucy's last few words were shattered as she broke down into tears again.
