It had taken a great deal of time, but TJ’s strength was growing, and was now no longer far from his health before he had been struck down outside of the cadet’s graduation. He sat quietly in his quarters on Starbase Conqueror, relaxed, and let out a large sigh.
He reviewed the events of the past year or so, how he had come to wed Polly, and how much she had changed since then. She was no longer the monster he recalled, who had imprisoned him on the Hepta and slandered his character, forcing him to choose between marrying her and decapitation. Indeed, he had been ready to die, but was deterred from doing so at the last moment.
Since the marriage, TJ had seen Polly do a complete reversal of her former self, and was now behaving as a dutiful and loving wife. He noted how the chill he felt toward her was slowly melting… how she was nursing him back to health, not only in sickbay, but also in their quarters now that he had been released.
He could not help it. Though he had tried to maintain his distaste for her, it was slowly being eroded by Polly’s care and support. Now, with the thought of her, his face no longer went into a scowl, but there was actually a curl of approval on his lips – nothing large and beaming, but there nonetheless.
As he sat alone in their quarters considering this, he thought it might be a good idea to take another step towards acceptance of his wife. It was the weekend, and Polly had left two hours earlier for a walk through the business sector of Starbase Conqueror, Her purpose in the walk, he did not know, but it was about the time she had told him she would return.
TJ nodded to himself, and decided he would do it. For the first time since their wedding, he would ask her to join him on a walk through the Promenade for nothing concerning business.
