Ok, that would be interesting. Of course, such an idea could benefit from the whole multiple core idea. I mean, such an energy consuming shielding system would possibly need another power source.
By the way, I love the Argo shuttle ... I think it would serve well as a marine vessel.

On multiple cores; the warp cores tend to be very unstable. It is common (and terrible) Starfleet practice to keep the core running producing far more power than is needed. Really you should run it at a level where there's only just enough to keep the reaction running. That way it's far safer and if there's a problem it's much easier to shut down. Possibly devise a different method of power production for the shields and have the core design changed so that the power production is less but more efficiently used for the engines. That way you have a backup AND a safer core not as likely to melt down as well as a faster ship.

It's a future ship design, but the same class name can't be used of two different designs since the time difference wouldn't be far enough apart. Given the double nature of the class hull design, possibly Duo class would do since military class names don't have to sound exotic or imaginative.
