OOC: Oh. Oops. My bad. I'm very sorry.
Nika considered Wong's suggestion. These two had been clearly killed while in their quarters, and the problem with confining everyone to their quarters was that it isolated them, and made it easier for the killer to target individuals. On the other hand, it would make it easier to intercept the killer on their way to the quarters. "Permission granted," Nika said, but before she left she asked another question: "Are there any signs of forced entry?"
There wasn't, but all that really proved was that the killer hadn't entered through manual forcing of the door. They could still have an override, which time and an analysis of the records would reveal, or they could have been recognized and let in. Or they could have come in a way other than through the door, although transporters weren't generally set up to be able to transport people <i>into</i> quarters.
Leaving the situation in Colonel Wong's capable hands, Nika returned to the bridge. Commander Sharp seemed a little resentful of that fact, but he hadn't stepped forward with any suggestions of his own, and returned with Nika to the bridge.
On the bridge, Nika contacted Assailant to let them know of the revised situation and continuing need for a rescue ship, which she could guess Admiral Lin was less than pleased at. Nika seemed to be spending a lot of time lately getting the Victory badly damaged and requesting a tow back to the station.
Nika also got in touch with Harvest to let them know that the delivery of the scientific equipment was going to be delayed. She thought the occasional sparking of bridge equipment in the background and the rather harried look she had probably contributed to the readiness with which the colony representative she spoke with agreed that they could wait longer for the equipment.

The forcefield shorted out, there was rushing whirlling of wind and the atmosphere was pulled out past them. Tiana's vision went grey at the edges as she fought to hang on the wall. Then her vision went black and the wall slipped from her grasp.
The nest thing she was aware of was Andae leaning over her."Tiana?" She rolled and focussed somewhat groggily on him "Hi," Blakus said "We're in the transporter room, medics are on the way."
Tiana swallowed knowing that they had barely made it out in time. "I think I'm pretty much okay. Are you all right?"
Andae was holding his arm protectively but he gave a nod in response to Tiana's question "Pretty much"
Despite that, the two of them were taken off to sickbay as soon at the medics arrived. Tiana was relieved to find that she was as okay as she felt she was and was release quite quickly.
She headed back to the labs. She was going to the bridge by needed top check in with her team first. She located Tomal
"What happened to the plant?" She asked, he pointed to a smal containment field full of vapour.
"I got it off, keeping it a 77K for the moment. Martha has gone back to her quarters, she was bruised and tired but there was no damage done."
Tiana was relieved but left promptly before he could enquire how she was. She made it to the bridge. Only to hear that Ensign Velin had been murdered. She had been one of the newer members to Tiana's team but the woman's death still hit hard, particularly as her child had been killed. She leaned on the Science station fighting to hold back the tears. Then Russ came over to her.

Daniel raced to the door of his quarters, his fur tangled such to give the appearance he'd been asleep prior to the knock on his door. He wasn't surprised to see two security officers stood in his doorway. Smoothing his fur, his tail lashing, Daniel offered the feline equivalent of a smile. "Gentlemen, what can a poor soul do for you?"
The guards looked at eachother, then shrugged. "Captain wants you," the tallest of the two said, motioning for the Caitian to step out. "One of the felines aboard has been murdered, you might not be safe."
M'Qess nodded in appreciation. Little did they know that he had managed to kill another feline family only seconds before they had come to his door, on another deck entirely and far away from the woman and her cub. He had killed them in the same way as he'd killed the female feline, with having made sure it wouldn't be traced to him.
"Let me grab my tricorder," he suggested, "perhaps I can help. I am, after all a feline myself." *quite obviously* he thought grimly, loathing himself for having to play nice.
Daniel M'Qess was led to the deck where the murdered woman and cub had been found. "Captain, Colonel, is there anything I can do to help? I'm so sorry to hear one of my own has been so brutally murdered. I'm at your disposal, I'll do anything I can to help uncover this. I'm a scientist ma'am, please use me in your investigation."
He narrowed his eyes as he gazed covertly at Wong. The man looked jumpy around felines; something he stored away for future use. "Have you discovered who destroyed my shuttlecraft yet?" he asked, this time feigning anxiousness, "was my data saved?" Not that there was any valuable data, but to keep appearances something had been aboard his craft, though it was meant to self destruct all along.

"Alright, visiting time is over. Your chief needs a rest."
"No, I don't. I need to.. arghh!" Blakus fell back to the biobed clutching his arm. Lieutenant Mattheson stood before him. They had been talking about engineering and how all the tribbles had been removed.
"Everything is nominal down there now then, sir, for the most part.." Mattheson said as he began to leave. He was being coerced out of the sickbay by a junior nurse. Blakus had tried to get up to leave with him but had accidentally put weight on his bad arm to get up, which had caused an involuntary yelp of pain on the CEO's part. He cradled his arm, it still required several more reparations and he still needed most of his hypospray injections. It seemed like there was a never ending stream of them, would he ever get out of sickbay?
Mattheson finally moved away to the exit. Blakus watched him go, and saw how he stopped in the doorway as three marine personnel entered sickbay. They barged through, seeming like they were trying to keep a low profile, but of course failing miserably. Mattheson squeezed past one of the marines that Blakus recognised as Sergeant Major Martinez. Blakus sat up on his biobed a bit, and looked puzzledly towards them. What are they doing..? he thought. Martinez said something to the other two and then moved off to the other side of sickbay, out of Blakus's sight. Andae got up carefully, ignoring the pleas from a nurse that came towards him. He wanted to see what Martinez was doing.
The Sergeant Major had walked into the area enclosed by a large glass window, and he was now talking to Katie Abernathy. Hmm.. Blakus thought as he watched from outside. He made his way back to the biobed when it appeared that Martinez was finished. But he didn't leave, he and his marines stayed.
Having had enough, Andae eventually asked Martinez what was going on. "Excuse me Sergeant Major, but why are you here?"
Martinez seemed to choose his words carefully before finally saying, "With the murder investigation and the possibility of more attacks the SMO has decided that sickbay should be kept an eye on by security or marine personnel.
"Hmm," Blakus mused. His interest was mildly piqued at this move. "Am I right in saying that the killer didn't gain entrance by the quarters' door?" Blakus asked Martinez. The marine nodded.
"So we could theoretically be attacked at any second?" Martinez nodded again. "From above, anywhere?" Seemingly growing weary, Martinez nodded yet again, he was unwilling to break silence again for the engineer. "I am glad you have those sidearms then, Sergeant Major." Blakus stated sardonically. Despite his vocal misgivings at the security of the sickbay, he doubted that the sickbay would be targeted. Too many people... Blakus went to check on when his next injection would be and in doing so was reminded of his plan for revenge. It had to be something devillish... Blakus was surprised himself. For some reason he couldn't put the plan to rest for any length of time, even with potential danger around. Being stuck in an otherwise dreary sickbay may have had something to do with it. The CEO had had enough of the place and decided to do something. He couldn't call the Captain who was busy with murder enquiries. The XO could be a good option, he thought. Davis would likely be holding things together up on the bridge.
Blakus went off to a corner and quietly tapped his commbadge. =/\=Commander Blakus to Commander Davis. You couldn't come down to sickbay could you, I need an excuse.=/\=
<Tag Davis>
The CEO was not at all confident that Davis would oblige, but he was down to his last straw. A short time to think then.. he thought. He glanced at the marines, one in each corner of the room, and also at Doctor Abernathy. It was very quiet in sickbay then.

Scene , USS VICTORY Chief of Operations office
‘Cmdr Matthew looked at the chronometer he had two hours before his meeting with the Captain and XO . Concerning the over all status of the ship ‘
“This gave him plenty of time to get the reports from all of his Divisions heads, get some PADD work done and hopefully run some work related errands. He picked up a PADD to take notes and looked at the gathered people.
“Cmdr Matthew gazed into the eyes of Divisions heads. “First I want to thank each one of you for your hard work Doing this most troubling time on board the Victory
“You almost made me feel useless with how well you accomplished your assignments as most of you know . I am not easily impressed . Okay who wants to go first?”
Lt, gawk was the first one to speak up. “Sir, the only major issue I have is that both Lt, Commander Mane and Lt, Commander Daniel both still have individual quarters assigned . I need to know if that is going to stay that way or if we will be able to open up one of their quarters for incoming personnel.”
“Cmdr Matthew noted the issue in his PADD. The recent wedding of LCDR Daniel and LCDR Mane would definitely provide some logistic questions. “I will try and get an answer for you at the1300 meeting.”
“Cmdr Matthew listened as various people reported. Happily there was nothing More major Than the ship current Damage and future repair scheduling once the ship was Dock at the ship yard oh’ yeah that ongoing Murder investigation it was nice to just hear about the same Day to Day issues that always occur for a ship while on a mission.
Inventory of supplies needed to be rechecked, finalizing of the ships roster, and processing of orders. With the Cadets on board for training on the mission , there were issues with ensuring they signed for supplies and their quarters were checked for contraband, which needed to be coordinated with security. “I haven’t met the OPS cadets yet, how are they doing?”
After a couple of chuckles Fiona Colbert spoke up. “Sir for the most part they are doing well. You know cadets they think they know everything and are shocked to find out when they don’t.”
Chief Warrant Officer Williamson shook her head, “Sir with all due respect the cadets are treating the enlisted and us warrant officers as if we are nothing more than a cleaning crew. They don’t listen to us and a one has even made disparaging comments.”
“Cmdr Matthew shook his head. “I haven’t time to meet with any of the cadets yet. Our current mission problems has taken up all of my free time but I expect to see them all in my office around 1215 Hours to Day “ . “I will inform them of the importance of Warrant officers and enlisted personnel. In fact Chief Williamson I want you and Senior Chief Hanson to come up with some on the job training for our eager Cadets .
I also think they would benefit from a day shadowing some of the lower enlisted so they realize what a day for them is like. Maybe a day doing all the little things that keep this ship operating will make them appreciate them a bit more.
Just make sure it is some of the more professional and hardworking crewman that won’t let it go to their head about bossing around a cadet. I will impress upon the cadets the importance of learning and following directions during my conversation with them later.”
“CW3 Williamson nodded approvingly, “Aye Sir, I know just the people they are hard working and having this bullet on their evaluations will all but ensure promotion.”
“Good and I believe the cadets could use an hour or two under the direct tutelage of some of the warrant officers as well, so they can learn why you are the technical experts and what your role is and how much you advise commissioned officers.” Cmdr Matthew made note of this on his PADD as well.
“Cmdr Matthew listened to the last couple of Divisions head reports noted a couple of things then asked if there was anything else that needed to be covered. Ok people even with the ship Current Condition we have a ship to run Now if I may have your Attention “
“Cmdr Matthew accessed his computer and pulled up a Schematics of the ship then turned the screen towards the gathered group. “Okay as most of you know we where the main damage areas of the ship are I am not sure what if any resources the CEO and his Department will be Needing also we have a Murder investigation on going as well
I want volunteers to work with him and his staff until he gets thing back in hand . I also need a liaison officer to work between the two departments. Williamson thank for Volunteering again .
“CW3 Williamson stood with a surprise look on his face and mumbling I never Volunteered”
“Cmdr Matthew turned the screen back towards himself. “I will be meeting with the XO in a little while so If no one has anything else you are free to go.”
“Cmdr Matthew waited until all the people departed his office before pulling up his messages on the computer.
He sighed, at all the reports he had to pour through. He quickly scanned the ones marked as priority, since his department heads had just briefed him about most of the issues he only had to note a couple of requests to pass onto the appropriate department.
“Once that was done he found the report from Col Wong about the on going murder investigation . He wanted to read it before he meet with the XO .
Ps Just a little story line filler for the ops department

=/\=Attention all hands, this is Colonel Wong=/\= Tiberian began a shipwide announcement. Of all the things he missed from being an XO, this was probably the biggest thing, the unrestrained ability to make announcements to the entire crew. Whilst he had found that the job as a whole did not agree with him, there were still little perks that he missed. =/\=As a matter of internal security, all non-essential and off duty personnel are hereby confined to quarters. If you are unsure whether you are essential or not, go to your quarters anyway, I'm sure your departmental head will soon summon you back if you're wrong. Any suspicious sounds or activity should be immediately reported to myself or Commander Sharp. This order is effective immediately and until further notification. Out=/\=
He moved back to the slain body of the cub and squatted down, gently petting it's fur. His mind immediately flashed back to the events aboard Bellicose, just before he had transferred back to the Victory. The thoughts of the crew killed by the deraged Sivoan and Tril swam back to the front of his memory and made him shudder in spite of himself. He shook his head vigorously and cleared his throat. He would not let that happen again here.
=/\=Wong to Lieutenant Malloy and Sergeant Major Martinez. Alright gentlemen, I want all on duty personnel armed and out patrolling the decks. Keep everyone in pairs, no-one goes anywhere alone, and only assign personnel to the decks where crewmembers are present. Post extra teams to critical areas such as the bridge and engineering=/\=
=/\=Why only decks with crewmembers on?=/\= Lieutenant Malloy responded =/\=What if the killer is hiding on one of the other decks?=/\=
=/\=This isn't a hunt Lieutenant, it's a defensive posture. Our main concern is to protect the crew. It's likely that our killer is either on duty in one of the areas where security is, or stuck in his quarters with security outside. One way or the other, they're not going to be hurting anyone anytime soon. Get it done=/\=
Tiberian sighed and then tapped his commbadge again.
=/\=Wong to Commander Sharp, if I'm going to be looking for the killer, would you mind taking over co-ordination of the security defence operation?/\=
<TAG Commander Sharp>
A few moments later, as Tiberian paced the room in thought, he was suddenly greeted by the appearance of the Caitian scientist in the doorway. He jumped slightly, and had to striaghten his tunic, reassuming his stony facade before moving over to greet him. Since almost losing his leg to a Sivoan, any sort of man sized cat put the wind up him, whether soldier or scientist.
"Colonel, is there anything I can do to help? I'm so sorry to hear one of my own has been so brutally murdered. I'm at your disposal, I'll do anything I can to help uncover this. I'm a scientist , please use me in your investigation. Have you discovered who destroyed my shuttlecraft yet?" he asked, "was my data saved?"
"I would appreciate it if you could help in our work" Tiberian acknowledged the offer "I'll look into your shuttle for you, but for now I'll have these two security officers stay with you for your protection. I hate to say this, but I really do hope that this murder is racially related. Random killers are so much more dangerous. In the meantime, I'm going to have you taken somewhere with computer access. If you could look over the other races on this ship and see if anyone has a grudge against the Caitians. I'd also appreciate any knowledge you have of Caitian social structures. I jut can't understand why someone would kill the cub as well"
<TAG M'Qess>
Tiberian gestured to one security man to remain as the other led M'Qess out of the door.
"Take him to the observation lounge next to the bridge. No-one's going to try anything with all the staff next door. And try to keep a polite distance. He went ape earlier when he thought an engineer was tryign to steal his work, so God only knows what he'll be like if he thinks one of you are trying to kill him" The men exchanged nods and left, leaving Tiberian alone in the now empty room, the medics having taken the two corpses to the morgue.
"Computer are there any more Caitian crewmembers aboard?"
"Affirmative. Lieutenant Junior Grade Screshan, his mate and two cubs"
"Where are their quarters?"
"Deck 17, section delta, room 17901"
=/\=Colonel Wong to Private Bob, grab another man and head to Deck 17, room 17901, ensure that the family there are secure. Out=/\=
Tiberian left and headed for the science labs, looking for Commander Galwyn. As a reward for his certainty, he found her there, along with Commander Davis.
"Tiana, sir" he greeted them "I was wondering if you could help me with something. The murder on deck three. Internal sensors were scrambled at a certain point, and I was wondering if you could clear it up. I need to know how that killer got in. Secondly, did you have chance to upload anything from the shuttle's black box before it went up. I can't help but think that the explosion and murder are more than a coincidence"

Andae had just heard that the XO was busy on the bridge with Tiana and Colonel Wong. He slumped in disappointment, it had been a long shot to start with but it was still a blow.
=/\=Attention all hands, this is Colonel Wong. As a matter of internal security, all non-essential and off duty personnel are hereby confined to quarters. If you are unsure whether you are essential or not, go to your quarters anyway, I'm sure your departmental head will soon summon you back if you're wrong. Blakus was pretty damn sure he was essential, and against the correct procedure, he would make sure all of his staff who were meant to be on duty were. Officially, some of his staff would have been put off-duty, so that just enough staff were on duty for maintaining the critical systems. Blakus wanted all of his staff on, they had work to do, particularly with him not being down there to help... People started moving about a bit faster in sickbay, the news of more potential killings had got everybody's adrenaline running.
OOC: Lieutenant Holland perspective.
IC: "This way." Holland led the security personnel through engineering, to the place he thought best for them to keep watch. He turned to face the four of them, and let out a long sigh. "Please for all our sakes try to stay out of the way. The Chief will be back soon, he... doesn't appreciate, security and marine personnel. Thank you." Holland looked back as he walked away, and nodded to the security group, it was more of a sign of encouragement than anything else, as if he was saying, 'good luck'.
Holland went to the 'pool-table' console, he set up another diagnostic for the warp core and leant against the table for a rest. He looked around engineering, scanning all of the activity. Things were back to normal in engineering. The only thing needed was a few more diagnostics on the key systems to make sure they weren't suddenly going to fail. Although it would be a while before they went to warp again, it wouldn't do to lose engine power while travelling superluminally.
The assistant CEO checked the chronometer next to the door, it was fifteen minutes until the Chief got back. He wasn't sure how he felt about his superior, he got on with him well enough now that things had settled down, and Holland would admit that he needed some guidance in areas where he found it difficult to apply himself. But then, Commander Blakus could be such a difficult character. Impossible to please at times, quick to the compliment at others.. angry a lot of the time yet seemingly good-hearted, he was downright confusing. Such people were not what Holland wanted, he preferred the easy to understand, good-natured fellow who demanded just enough so that Holland knew what was expected of him. It wasn't always possible, he knew that, but it would have made a change. He sighed, stood up straight and called up to the upper level, "Alright, Lieutenant Mattheson, let's get some phaser sidearms distributed."
"Right." Holland heard Mattheson acknowledge and the latter made his way down from the top level. "We don't want to be shooting in here do we?" He said as he approached.
"We might have to," Holland said, "Hopefully it won't come to that Mattheson."

M'Qess made a motion that was passable for a shrug, his entire tail lashing to depict horrification. "Revenge?" he offered uncertainly. "Caitians are very sociable and friendly," he continued softly, recalling the drilling he'd received to be able to pass as a Caitian himself. He suppressed a shudder at the thought of a female with cub being on a starship. Kzinti females were uneducated and inferior; they were also considered stupid.
"We are considered one of the most loyal and intelligent members of the Federation," he continued, not without a hint of faked pride. "I would assume the female would also have been extremely loyal to her friends and her captain, as well as her mate." He purred softly, depicting misery.
"However it is believed that the Caitians are historically connected if not descendant from the warlike Kzinti. Thus, it could be possible that somehow the murdered female was considered to be of Kzinti stock and murdered for that exact reason. I'm quite sure the doctor would be able to discover this?"
Daniel wasn't sure what else he could say on the matter, especially without giving due cause for him to be examined. "My great great grandfather was Kzinti," he finally said, an idea springing to mind. "I have Kzinti DNA, perhaps mine could be used as a template to see if she is of Kzinti descent?" It was a wild idea and definitely a long shot but it was worth a try. By being co-operative, he would remain on top of things and he could manipulate results if and when required.
What did surprise him, was that the second family's death had not been reported. He was quite certain that nothing would lead back to him as officially he'd been locked in his quarters, and the guards had remained outside at all times and could in fact vouch for him in that he hadn't left at all. Additionally, upon investigation the computer would also report that his lifesigns had been detected in his quarters at the time of both murders. He had a solid alibi, and no motive.

Russ had taken one look at Tiana and had escorted her into the turbolift and back to her office by the science labs. Tiana managed to hold most of the tears back and the one or two that escaped she scuffed away with the back of hand. Sh ewas not going to cry on duty. Instead she was going to make very sure that whoever had killed her officer paid of their crime. Even if she had to extract that payment herself. Tiana did not think of herself as violent but people harming the innocent made her blood boil. She decided that it was better to be angry than in tears. The anger gave you energy and she could tell that this was going to be a very long mission.
It was amazing how Russ's presence calmed her down and allowed her to think rationally, he was an anchor and she did not know what she would do without him. It felt as if she had known him forever although in truth it had been little over a year.
Her door chime went then. "Come in", Tiana said. Hoping she didn't sound to weary. She was a bit surprised to find that her visitor was Colonel Wong.
Tiana nodded, remembering her own thoughts back just before she'd nearly suffocated, in the maintenance room. "I'll add my suspicions about the emergency forcefields and the causes of the hull breach. I'm pretty sure that someone has been sabotaging the Victory's systems." She sighed and collected up her things. Suddenly the first half of the Colonel's question registered. "I did get the data out of the shuttle and the research data that he was so concerned about I haven't had a chance to examine it yet though."
"So deck three?" Wong nodded and the two of them headed to the turbolift.
"Do you have any theories about what's been going on?" Tiana askes as the 'lift swept them onward.

"Do you have any theories about what's been going on?" Tiana askes as the 'lift swept them onward.
"I wish I did" Tiberian shrugged "It's easier then, because all I have to do is go and shoot somebody. As it stands I actually have to think about things. For now, my primary concern is protecting the other Caitian family onboard, and our new arrival. Who or whatever is doing this probably has a generic grudge. A killing that skillful isn't something that just happens because of a personal gripe"
The turbolift arrived at deck 3 and the two officers dismounted, walking along the corridor which led them to room 2801. The door had been sealed with a mechanisedlock, and two security personnel stood at attention outside the door. One nod from Tiberian and the door was unlocked and the two officers gained access. The room was as any other for a junior officer, with a table, chairs, sofa and replicator in the main area, accompanied now by two copious bloodstains on the carpet. He motioned around the room for Tiana's benefit.
"You see. Now signs of a struggle, no forced entry, no records of override codes being used to gain access, and no damn sensor records to show how they did get in. Do you think you can do anything to uncover the sensor logs, or just to give me a point of entrance?"
<TAG Tiana>
A moment before he could respond, his commbadge chirped.
"Bob to Colonel Wong, sorry to bother you sir, but I've just arrived at the room on deck 17 and everyone is dead sir, all of them. The Lieutenant, his mate and cubs" the Private's voice was shaky, indicating the severity of the attack was undoubtedly comparable to the one on Ensign Velin. Tiberian swore vehmently, visibly shocking Tiana and causing the two security personnel to put their heads round the door to check on what had happened.
=/\=Wong to bridge. Captain, recommend assuming red alert and putting personnel to security stations, we've had another killing, deck 17 room 17901=/\=
<TAG Captain Cir'Kem>
=/\=Wong to Gunnery Sergeant Hightower. Get a five man team made up of off duty marine personnel and head to the conference room on the bridge. Protect the Caitian there at all costs=/\=
He rubbed his hands back through his hair and exhaled loudly. He couldn't work out what was happening. Two killings, on different decks, but both with the same species as the target. What frightened him even more was that the second killing had happened whilst security and marines roamed the corridors of the ship.
"Computer this is Colonel Wong. Seal all access points to the ships jeffries tubes system, and establish blocking fields at random intervals along all tubes. Authorisation, Wong 64 Theta Proxima. Override only on command staff authorisation codes"
"Order executed" the computer's cold and clinical reply came.
"Tiana, stay here, work on what you can and then go and do the same on deck 17. If I'm right, then the killing, and the scrambled sensors will be the same. You two" He pointed at the security officers "You stay with her no matter what, don't let her out of your sight no matter what she orders you to do, or you will answer to me"
He strode briskly into the corridor, his phaser drawn and set on heavy stun, heading for the turbolift.
=/\=Wong to Commander Blakus. Wherever you are grab a marine and have him escort you to main engineering. I need your help working out how our killer is getting about=/\=

Upon hearing the SMO's comm call start to come through, Blakus had got up and jogged to a corner so that the nearby nurse would not hear it. The CEO knew that the nurse or any of the staff would do everything to keep him in sickbay. =/\=Copy that Colonel=/\= he responded. Blakus cut the channel and walked towards the marines who were still maintaining vigil in the sickbay. "Martinez." He got the Sergeant Major's attention. "Can you spare one of your men, I need an escort to engineering." Martinez nodded and briefly looked at the marine with him, indicating that he should be the one to escort the CEO.
Blakus simply walked out of engineering, with the marine in tow, without even waiting to hear the complaints from the nurses. He had had a retort ready anyway, it was something like, 'Twenty minutes to my last injection anyway' but he hadn't needed it. He was still feeling light headed, which surprised him slightly, his arm was as bad as he had first thought. Perhaps it wasn't helping him, walking around the ship, It was anything to get out of sickbay, maybe it isn't such a good idea.. But if Wong needed his help with something of such importance, he had little choice.
The marine entered engineering first, with Blakus following him in. Lieutenant Holland saw him straight away, "Sir, you're back early," said the assistant CEO.
"Yep, we have a killer to help hunt down," Blakus replied. "Apparently whoever it is has struck again, the other Caitian family aboard are dead. Our guest is under tight guard, he would obviously be the next target."
Blakus, the marine who's name turned out to be Corporal Jones, Lieutenant Holland and Ensign Bligh gathered around the 'pool table'. "The SMO has asked me to start analysing the killer's possible methods of entry into the two Caitian family quarters," Blakus said. "Whoever they are, they did not have to force their way into the quarters, they either entered through the door or came through one of the hatches in the rooms' walls and ceiling, unforced. Your thoughts." He looked around at the two engineers and one marine around him. Hopefully Corporal Jones would provide a military aspect to the discussion. Being a marine he would be trained in all the arts of the kill.
But it was Ensign Bligh who spoke up, "Well for a start I don't think the killer would be dumb enough to enter through the quarters door. Not only would the victim see their killer but it would also give them a chance to call for help. They must have come through one of the hatches."
"Jeffries Tubes?" Bligh shrugged so Blakus pressed a button on the console in front of him, "Computer, do Jefferies Tubes run immediately adjacent to either of the murdered Caitian's quarters on decks 3 and 17?"
The computer voice answered instantly, ~ Affirmative, Jefferies' Tube 3-34 Lambda runs adjacent to Ensign Velin's quarters on deck 3. ~
"So there isn't one by the deck 17 quarters?" Blakus asked, surprised.
~ Affirmative. ~
Blakus was puzzled, he sighed and gazed at the ceiling, wincing when he moved his right arm too much. He would have to learn to be left-handed for a while it looked like. The frown of puzzlement grew deeper on his face, "This is a problem," he said eventually. Jefferies' Tubes would explain the deck 3 event, but not the deck 17..
"Sir, what about air vents?" Holland said then. "I know they're redundant what with the standard air circulation systems, but they run past all quarters."
"The vents? But they're tiny, I didn't think anyone could fit through them.." Blakus commented with incredulity.
Holland shrugged, "They are used as emergency hatches in some quarters, so they must provide some room." Blakus had to admit that he had never tried to crawl through the redundant air vent passages before, he had never exactly had a need to...
"Ok, we'll work on that theory, I need to update the Colonel." He tapped his commbadge, =/\=Colonel Wong this is Blakus, we have a theory that the killer could have used the redundant air vents to get into the two quarters. What are your thoughts?=/\=
<Tag Wong>
Blakus looked around at the others around the console table and noticed that they all had phasers. He soon fetched one for himself, along with an equipment belt. Setting the phaser to a high stun setting, he slotted into its holder on his right side. The CEO would be drawing with his left, his right arm was still not able to move like that with that much ease. "Right," he said to the person nearest him who was Lieutenant Holland. I want everyone to keep working on this," he said to the ACEO, "I know it's not our general area but we have a surplus of staff at the moment now that I've kept all the 'non-essential' personnel on. I also want people analysing the shuttle wreckage. Somehow, I think it's more than a coincidence that a Caitian's shuttle explodes and two Caitian officers are killed inside twenty-four hours."
Holland rolled his eyes slightly but nodded, and moved off to distribute the orders. Blakus looked around quickly for another officer, "Bligh!" He called, "You're with me."
"Where are we going Andae?"
"Deck 3." Blakus noticed Bligh's usage of his first name and smiled, the Ensign was one of his most competent engineers, and Blakus was glad that he was finally confident enough in his own ability to be informal with his chief. Blakus and his ace-engineer arrived a few minutes later.

=/\=Colonel Wong this is Blakus, we have a theory that the killer could have used the redundant air vents to get into the two quarters. What are your thoughts?=/\=
Tiberian was halfway to engineering when the question was posed, arousing some interesting thoughts, and some not so pleasant ideas.
=/\=To be honest I hope to God that you're wrong. There aren't any field emmitters in those vents, meaning we can't control who gets in and out. But it would explain how people are getting from one area of the ship to another. Carry on Commander, I'll get back to you=/\=
He turned on heel and headed back for a different turbolift, now headed for deck 17. He wanted to see these vents for himself before he made anymore snap decisions, none of which had seemed to aid the situation thus far.
=/\=Wong to Gunnery Sergeant Hightower. Are there air vents in the conference room=/\=
=/\=Yes sir. Is there a problem=/\=
Tiberian couldn't work out what orderto give, not a good trait when a killer roamed the vessel at will. He knew that he could do nothing besidesmount a solid defence, or keep the Caitian moving, despite the fact that everywhere had the vent system running through it. He had no real alternative.
=/\=Alright Gunny, this is what you do. Grab the scientist and keep him moving. Don't spend more than 15 to 20 minutes in one place. Stay in larger areas and those which are populated, like Ten Forward, Main Engineering, the Bridge, Stellar Cartography. Just keep him moving and supervised. Out=/\=
Tiberian arrived on deck 17 and headed along the corridor to the newest murder scene on the ship. Again it had security, marines and medical personnel milling around the entrance, and again his mere presence allowed him to push his way through the crowd. He walked in and looked around the ceiling until he found the emergency vent. It was indeed large enough for a humanoid to slip in and out of, and was fairly high up to allow for a surprise attack. Looking on the floor he saw that all had been killed fairly close together, indicating that no one had the chance to flee or fight back, or possibly that they had all huddled together in terror. But why would they be so afraid that they would come together instinctively? These thought were replaced by the sickening feeling in his stomach that his order for all personnel to return to their quarters may have caused all of them to die. He shook his head, more in abject temper than anything else, and put those thoughts out of his head, going to fetch a chair in order to reahc the vent. He punched the grating off, showing it to be loose already. He poked his head upwards, and he loked around, seeing nothing of any importance to the investigation. But then, just as he was about to drop his head, his artificial eye picked up something. A slight red haze filled the air and coated the walls around the entrance to the hatch. He drew his tricorder from his belt and began to scan the entrance.
"Computer, link in with my tricorder and perform radiomagnetic and spectroscopic analyses of the 5 square metre area within the vicinity"
"Specify parameters for investigations"
"Any unusual atmospheric particles not commonly found on routine diagnostic scans, and any radiation levels for the same criteria"
"Processing. Spectroscopic atmospheric analysis shows increased concentrations of fluorine, carbon monoxide and dioxide, nitrogen oxide, sulphur dioxide and sulphur trioxide at 10 to 15 parts per million, whereas normal concentrations are negligible"
"Like toxic smoke?" Tiberian was confounded by the results "What about the radiomagnetic analysis?"
"Evidence of raised levels of Delta and Theta radiation, exceeding prior negligible levels"
"Where the hell is this coming from?" Tiberian asked no-one in particular as he folded his tricorder and got down off the chair. He walked across to the huddle of corpses and knelt down beside them, crossing himself and then opening his tricorder. Surely enough there were trace amounts of Delta and Theta radiation present, as well as the other atmospheric components. It made absolutely no sense, as none of these particles, let alone the radiation should be present in the ship itself, never mind an inhabited area.
=/\=Wong to engineering. Do you have any EPS conduits undergoing repair in the vicinity of room 17901?=/\=
=/\=Mattheson here sir, there aren't any conduits until you get into the next section on that deck=/\=
=/\=Then can you tell me what the Beta and Theta radiation levels in engineering in are right now=/\= a thought flashed across Tiberian's mind. The killer might be an engineer who had been exposed on duty.
=/\=Levels are negligible sir, what are you looking for?=/\=
=/\=I'm forwarding you some scanner results now Lieutenant, can you tell me where these might have come from?=/\=
=/\=Sorry sir, but these can't be from this ship. Our core's working fine, and the only way you'd get toxic smoke and radiation like this is from blown out EPS relays and a damaged warp core. Even the relays on deck 5 were sealed off after the explosion=/\=
=/\=Are you sure that one of the relays on deck 5 might not be...Oh my God the explosion!=/\= Everything suddenly hit Tiberian like an exploding shuttle. Toxic smoke and Delta and Theta radiation exposure would have both occurred on the damaged shuttle. He'd been trying to protect the killer all this time.
=/\=Wong to Gunnery Sergeant Hightower, report. I say again, report=/\= No response came.
"Warning, internal sensors are offline"
=/\=Wong to the bridge. Captain it's the scientist, he's doing all this. He's been exposed to radiation from his shuttle, but he's got away from his guards, I think. I can't tell where he is without sensors. What are your orders?=/\=
<TAG Captain Cir'Kem>
=/\=Wong to Blakus and Galwyn. It's the Caitian scientist, finish your scans and then get the hell out of there. Set your tricorders to scan for Delta and Theta radiation, and if you see it, run in the opposite direction. I'm on my way=/\= He set off running.

Something was wrong. Daniel M'Qess could just sense it and he didn't really need his instincs for that. It wasn't just the tenseness of the guard that accompanied him. "Sergeant, there seems to be something wrong with your weapon," he said casually, as though noticing something with the phaser rifle.
The sergeant glanced down at his weapon and the distraction was all M'Qess needed. He yanked the rifle from the marine's hands, aimed it at the poor man and pressed the trigger. The bright orange beam hit the sergeant squarely in the chest and he slumped down, his uniform smouldering, his skin scorched where the beam had struck.
Clutching the rifle in his paws, Daniel took grateful opportunity of the sensors being offline. His engineered explosion seemed to have done its work after all. Prowling through the corridors, he stalked the one marine that could expose him once he caught up with him and his subordinate; the marine that had been called Tiberian Wong. Briefly, the Kzinti wondered why anyone would take orders from an inferior species and he was glad he never had to. His only concern was his posing as this social species where he actually preferred to be alone.
But, his task was done. The Caitians had been discredited, the two families on this ship murdered as he set out to do. Now only he had to draw attention from himself, probably by staging an assault on his own life. Briefly, he weighed his options, took out the hypospray he had prepared, then injected himself with the poison that had been devised. It would show up as lethal, he would eventually lose consciousness but it'd send him on a frenzy first. Though, the poison was designed not to actually kill him.
Feeling the fluid course through his veins and take effect, he leapt from his hiding place and jumped on the shaken marine, clawing him across his back and arms, before the marine threw him off.
Daniel landed hard on the rifle, seriously bending the weapon beyond use. He lay panting, eyes wide with frenzy as the poison did its work. "Help me," he panted, his muscles spasming, "the murdered, he jumped me, poisoned me." *come closer* he thought widly, wanting to take as many down with him as he could. "Help me, please.."

A killing that skillful isn't something that just happens because of a personal gripe" Tiana gave a wry smile at that that, she knew Tiberian was not the unintelligent thug he sometimes appeared to be.
Still the idea of a killer stalking the halls of the Victory picking off the Caitains unnerved Tiana, it just felt so wrong.
"I think I should be able to manage that, if necessary I can to a DNA analysis on all trace particles. It'll take a while given the volume of input but..." Tiana's voice trailed off as Tiberian's comm badge chirped. Tiana heard the news of the other Caitian's death in stony faced silence. If she gave in to her feelings now she would never get anything done and if this killer was to be caught then she would have to do her part.
"Tiana, stay here, work on what you can and then go and do the same on deck 17. If I'm right, then the killing, and the scrambled sensors will be the same. You two" He pointed at the security officers "You stay with her no matter what, don't let her out of your sight no matter what she orders you to do, or you will answer to me"
As soon as the Colonel had gone Tiana looked at her guards. "Look I'm not suicidal so I'm not going to make your job harder than it has to be."
She thought she saw a smile flicker across one of the marines' faces but she couldn't stop to ponder it she had a room to survey. Tiana finished her survey and was just gathering up her things when her comm badge chirped. She doubted it would be good news but she tapped it anyway.
=/\=Wong to Blakus and Galwyn. It's the Caitian scientist, finish your scans and then get the hell out of there. Set your tricorders to scan for Delta and Theta radiation, and if you see it, run in the opposite direction. I'm on my way=/\=
=/\=Acknowledged=/\= Tiana said slapping her comm badge again, she slung her bag over her shoulder and looked at the marines they had heard the message too and looked even more on edge than they had been. The three of the left the room at a jog, Tiana relied on the marines to direct her as she focussed on programming her tricorder. She could feel her heart racing now, adrenaline and fear was a potent combination. She wasn't quite sure where they were heading but imagined the marines were making for Tiberian, the armoury so some location they felt secure in.

Tiberian was storming along deck 17, looking for a turbolift to get him off this deck and onto an area of key importance. Every member of security or other on duty personnel he had come across thus far he had ordered either to one of the critical areas, or back to their own quarters. The Caitian had had seven security and marine personnel assigned to him, and still he had managed to escape, indicating that two man patrols were unlikely to stop him in a chance encounter. He could only imagine Blakus' disgruntled face as twenty or thirty marines and security officers piled into his engine room. In spite of the spate of murders and threat to the entire ship, this little thought almost made Tiberain giggle. He rounded a corner, and saw a turbolift at the end of the corridor. He planned to head to engineering, as it was less defensible than the bridge, and was more of a source of key functions than the actual command centre, which could have its access re-routed to engineering.
=/\=Wong to Commander Sharp, will you manually seal all access points to the bridge, including the redundant air vents, that's how our killer is making his attacks. Only allow access to the bridge by site to site transporter, and protect the Captain at all costs. I'll liase with you from engineering=/\=
<TAG Commander Sharp>
=/\=Wong to Blakus and Galwyn, have your escorts get you to engineering. We need internal sensors, and we need a battle plan=/\=
<TAG Andae and Tiana>
As Tiberian walked on, he heard a faint clicking behind him, barely louder than the faintest of whispers. Before he even had the luxury of turning to inspect the noise, his vision misted red as an unseen but known assailant dropped from behind him, clawing into his back and arms. He screamed in pain and writhed and struggled, eventually throwing the Caitian from his back and onto the floor behind him. He fell to his knees, his phaser flying from his hand next to the door of a crewman's quarters. He rolled onto his back, swearing loudly in pain, his hands and uniform soaked in the blood just drawn from him.
"Help me," M'Qess panted "the murdered, he jumped me, poisoned me. Help me, please.."
Tiberian was unsure what he should do. His marine instinct told him to make a dash for the phaser and shoot him whilst he was wounded, whilst his own personal fear, knawing at him from within, told him to simply make a run from the Caitian whilst he was seemingly pre-occupied. He hated indecision, and rarely felt it, conventionally preferring to act on gut instinct and rash stupidity than give into the melancholy indecisiveness of protracted thought. Shaking himself out of the funk, he slowly advanced towards the Caitian on his knees. If he had been poisoned in order to committ the murders, then the true kiler was still out there. He did not get far. Recovering from his reverie, the Caitian launched himself at Tiberian at close range, sending him onto his back, arousing searing pain from the open gashes that lay there. He struggled against a mixture of claws and fangs, batting the creatures head away with one hand whilst his other fended off the claws. In a momentary grasp, he withdrew and flicked out his stun baton, holding it with his right hands in order to pry both the Caitian's head and hands above him. Then with a final urge or will and strength, he threw the Caitian from the top of him. Not waiting to see if he had been merely fazed or injured, Tiberian threw himself to his feet and set off in a run towards the turbolift door, neglecting even to try and grab his phaser. All consuming terror had filled him. The doors opened and he hurtled inside, turning to see the Caitian bounding after him. He hurled his baton like a knife, seeing it strike the Caitian's shoulder, unbalancing him and sending him to the floor, just for long enough to allow the doors to close and the turbolift to set off.
<TAG M'Qess>
"Engineering" he panted, collapsing to the floor. He was now completely unarmed, save for his marine issue knife, and he was completely isolated. Suddenly, he rolled over and violently vomited onto the floor, catching a large part of his uniform in the process. This was far too reminiscient of Bellicose, and then he had only made it out alive through the conjoined skills of others. The lift arrived and Tiberian stumbled out, his uniform covered in hair, blood and vomit, his skin pale from the blood loss he had suffered, and his vision blurry from the same reason. He pushed on, grasping the wall like a drunkard trying to find a bed, until two security officers came upon him. He vaguely communicated needing to be taken to main engineering, and was then half dragged, half carried there, the blood loss mkaing him largely lose the concept of of space and time.
"Someone call sickbay" he heard a voice shout as he was deposited on the floor, following the feel of a hypospray being pushed against his neck. His grogginess subsided, and his vision cleared, revealing to him an overpacked room of engineers, marines and security personnel.
"Seal engineering" he muttered "Manually close all doors and jeffries tubes, and activate forcefields. The air vents will have to be sealed by portable transporter emmitters" He saw a handful of people detatch themselves from the group in order to complete his orders. He looked around for one of the other members of the senior staff.
"We need internal sensors" he mumbled, the effects of the stimulant wearing off "And we need to find a way to contain the killer to certain decks, stop him getting to the rest of the ship's population"
<TAG Andae, Tiana or both>
He groggily drooped in and out of consciousness until he heard the faint hum of the transporter, and he looked up to see an unfamiliar face.
"Who the hell are you?"
<INTRODUCING Dr Salek>
As he leaned forwards to let his wounds be treated, he remembered the events of deck 17, and what he had to relay to the others. Gesturing for those senior staff in the room to come closer, he opened a channel with the bridge so all could hear and have an input.
"I have a report to make. The Caitian claims to have been poisoned, and that it is this effect which drove him to kill. I don't know whether or not we can trust him, but if he's telling the truth, then we have another, far more dangerous killer on the loose. Do we know of any neurotoxins which could do this, or anything else on record about similar events?"

Blakus and Ensign Bligh arrived on deck 3, instantly stepping out of the turbolift they marched side by side down the corridor heading to the late Caitian Ensign's quarters. A crackle of Blakus's commbadge through him off his stride:
=/\=Wong to Blakus and Galwyn. It's the Caitian scientist, finish your scans and then get the hell out of there. Set your tricorders to scan for Delta and Theta radiation, and if you see it, run in the opposite direction. I'm on my way=/\=
As usual, several possible replies entered Blakus's head, the first of which was how he hadn't even started scans, but all of them were overridden by the entire point of what Wong had said. The Caitian... on the face of it it didn't make sense, how could it be? But then, if the Colonel was sure enough to send such an urgent sounding message, Blakus wasn't going to disbelieve him. He and Bligh stopped and turned to face each other, both of their minds were racing. Where were they going to go? It would be a 'very' bad idea to stay around the deck 3 murder scene, they would have to head back to engineering.
Just then, Tiana and two marines appeared, running, from around the corner of the corridor, coming from the direction of Velin's quarters. Blakus saw her and nodded, he and Bligh turned around and ran with the CScO and her escort. The CEO looked at his fellow staff officer as they ran side by side. "Please tell me you're not running from him, he's not on the deck is he?" He asked, tones of worry were in his voice.
Tiana shook her head. "That's good, we should head for engineering, there are already three or four security officers down there, as long as we go somewhere where we know there's relative safety we should be Ok." As if to confirm this idea, Wong called straight after to advise them of the same thing.
One thing about the call alarmed Blakus however. Since when were internal sensors offline? They were in a turbolift now, it was quite cramped. Blakus yanked out his tricorder and set it to scan for the types of radiation Wong had recommended. Something clicked in his mind, M'Qess must have been leaving a trail of that radiation, because of the damaged - now destroyed - shuttle. He got out his phaser as well and indicated for Bligh to do the same. The marines already had their weapons at the ready, Tiana was unarmed. The turbolift door arrived and the doors hissed open.
They had been bracing themselves for the worst as the doors opened on to the engineering deck, the two marines had had their weapons raised in front of them, leading the way and shielding the three scientists/engineers behind them. Now they stepped out, scanned around the immediate area for any sign of felinoid. Nothing. The Caitian wasn't present. They stepped out and hurriedly made their way down the corridor to the entrance of engineering. Blakus nervously looked from side to side as he walked, checking to make sure that M'Qess wasn't lurking in any of the side corridors, ready to pounce... He wiped the sweat from his brow and looked at it on his hand. It was the mixture of nervous apprehension, adrenalin and exhaustion from completing the quickest traverse - from the top decks down to engineering - that he had ever done.
They entered engineering. Blakus was instantly taken aback by the volume of marines... security.. just the quantity of personnel in the room. He muttered a few curses but kept walking, he left Tiana by the 'pool table' with Lieutenant Holland and didn't stop walking until he reached the consoles on the other side of the warp core. Mattheson was there, right where he expected him to be. "Lieutenant." He got his third-in-command's attention over the constant, and fairly loud, level of heated conversation in the large room. Mattheson swung towards his chief. "Lieutenant, we need to get internal sensors back online, this is ridiculous."
"Yes, sir we're working on it." Blakus had been ready to add more but he saw that Mattheson already had his hands full with it. Deciding that the LT knew what he was doing, Blakus moved off to talk to Tiana. He gradually became aware of an increased level in the conversation around him, and before he could ask what was going on there were several alarmed shouts. Pushing through to see what was going on, Blakus saw Colonel Tiberian Wong being dragged into the room by two brownshirts (security officers). They let him down a bit too unevenly and he collapsed on the floor about three metres in front of the CEO. Wong fell forward as his arms were released and then he slowly rolled over. Only then did Blakus see the state the Colonel was in. He was smeared in red blood, his face was as white as a sheet, and there were gashes all down his front and on his face. Blakus heard one of the security officers murmur what had happened to a colleague.
The Caitian did this? Blakus thought, it was a question that was soon answered when Blakus saw the felinoid's fur that was strewn over the SMO. "Someone call sickbay" Blakus called out over his shoulder. He looked back at the man on the floor, and saw how he seemed to come back to the situation.
Wong muttered something to the marines that were crouching right in front of him, making sure that he was alright. Then the marines parted and Wong looked around blearily eyed and then looked straight at Blakus. The sight made the CEO's hairs on the back of his neck stand on end. Wong was in an utter state. "We need internal sensors" he mumbled, "And we need to find a way to contain the killer to certain decks, stop him getting to the rest of the ship's population"
The CEO nodded, "We're working on the sensors, I'll get to work setting up forcefields. If he's still on deck 17 then he's closer than I or any of us would like.
Blakus went to fetch Tiana, who happened to be standing right behind him. "I assume you heard about the forcefields?" He asked. Tiana nodded but then Wong reported something to the bridge, and Tiana seemed more than interested in what he was saying. She stepped away from the CEO to listen. Leaving Tiana to it Blakus listened to the rest of what Wong said but found himself in the position of not being able to offer anything of use. So instead he moved to make sure that security were sealing the entrances. Satisfied that they had and were doing a good job he moved back to where Mattheson - and now Bligh - were trying to get internal sensors back online. He stepped up behind the two of them who were working side by side at a console, their brows furled and screwed up in concentration. "I don't suppose either of you know where Lieutenant Holland is, do you?" He asked them.
Mattheson paused, "No sir, I don't. Come to think of it... I really don't."
"Computer locate Lieutanant Hol- Oh, actually, are the personnel transponders still detectable?"
"Nope they went down with sensors as well." Bligh informed him without looking around, but then: "Oh, wait a minute, Lieutenant Holland said he was heading to a maintenance junction on deck 16, to sort out a power relay that was still playing up from the refits??"
"Mighty damn." Blakus slapped his forehead and then ran his hand over his jaw, he squinted his eyes and peered at the ceiling in thought. "Ok.." he said. "We might have a situation here." Just in case, Blakus sent search parties all over engineering and when they reported back that there was no sign of Holland, Blakus got very worried. The CEO alerted several nearby marines and checked his phaser, he grabbed Bligh by the arm and told Mattheson to keep working. Bligh looked at him, almost knowing without saying. "If he's in trouble, we've got to get him back, check your phaser."
It wasn't in Blakus's nature to roam with a weapon, but it was one of his own staff. During his tenure as the Victory's CEO Blakus had grown attached to his engineering team, he saw them as a - working - family. He and Holland had had their differences, but the ACEO was definitely one of the team.

Salek was on the bridge of the USS Blackthorn, one of the ships used by SFI for information gathering and other... quiet and unofficial operations. The vessel was equipped with a state of the art cloaking device and was capable of speeds up to warp 9.8 for long periods of time. And as the captain of the vessel owned him a favor he agreed to transport Salek to the Victory and make a near warp transport. Something that was not advised to do as unfortunate accidents could occur, but Salek was not concerned, he was not even not concerned, he was sure the technology was sufficient to ensure a smooth transport for he had used it a number of times before and when transporting into more dangerous situations then a sickbay on a ship orbiting a planet.
"We will be in range in 5 minutes", the CTSO called
"Thank you", the captain responded, "Well Salek, i guess this is good bye for now"
"So it wold appear", Salek responded, "But I am certain our paths will cross again, they always do", he added
"As am I. You can never seem to stay out of trouble", the captain said
The two men shook hands and after that the Vulcan Doctor, once again wearing teal, proceeded, with his bag, to the transporter room to be beamed on board his newest assignment, the Victory C. After a short walk, a ride on the turbolift and then another short walk, he arrived to the transporter room.
"You're just in time Commander", the transporter chief said
"As always", Salek remarked
"30 seconds and counting", the transporter chief informed him
Salek walked onto the transporter pad and prepared for the transport. These high speed transports tended to be a bit rough at times. One of the times he materialized above the person holding a weapon he was meant to... take care of and ended up knocking the man out, saving himself the trouble of using a phaser on him.
"Link between the computer, helm and transport established, 10 seconds remaining", the chief called out
"Understood"; Salek said
"Good luck sir", the chief said, "Link speed 2 terabytes per second... 5 seconds remaining... 4... 3... 2... 1... ener...."
The chief was cut of in half word as the transport initialized and Salek dematerialized. Moments later he was materialized above a bio bed onto which he came crashing down. Luckily there was no one occupying it. A few of the nurses nearby screamed at his sudden appearance.
"Calm down", he said, "My name is Doctor Salek, I am the new CMO... I understand my method of arrival has alarmed you butg it was the only logical way of getting here under the circumstances."
"As the nurses seemed to calm down, Salek got up from the bio bed and wiped of the dust from his uniform
"It is rather unhygienic here, you should clean these biobeds more often. What if there was an emergency, someone might get an inffection from these beds.", he said in an attempt to lover the tension in the room
"Yes, doctor", one of the nurses said
And before anyone could say anything else, a call came about a marine who has been attacked and severely injured in engineering. Salek decided to get right down to business as it was the only logical thing to do, so he threw his bag at one of the nurses and instructed her to see to it that it is delivered to his quarters as he grabbed an emergency kit before contacting the shocked transporter chief and ordering him to transport him to engineering.
And so a few minutes after arriving on the Victory Doctor Salek was neck deep in venous blood coming out of the superficial veins of the abdomen and the back of the SMO of the Victory C.
The baffled SMO questioned.
"The new CMO of the Victory C", Salek responded as he pressed a hyposprey on the man's neck, "As much as you may wish to learn more about where i come from and how i got here, it is more logical to concentrate on your wounds while there is still some blood left flowing through you then it is to hear how i arrived here and let all the blood flow out of you with the result of you becoming my first autopsy patient on this vessel", Salek said as he used a sterilizer on the open wounds
The response seemed to quiet down the marine and he allowed the newcomer to treat him. Salek sterilized the man's injuries, after which he used a tissue regeneratior on them to seal them up.... partially. He had to leave them partially opened/closed with coagulated blood as he would need to undergo some reconstructive work on his venous blood flow at a later date.
"Now then Mr. Wong... you were extremly lucky. You will survive.", Salek said to the man, "Whatever made these wounds seems to have made rather shallow cuts and did not sever any of your arteries, for had it done so you would not be talking now."
<Tag Wong>
"But that does not mean you can go running around the ship right now. You lost a fair amount of blood... you need a transfusion. Which means you will need to go to sickbay or i can offer you another logical solution to this issue, and that is you can recive a transfusion here, however then you must stay on that floor and do not attempt to get up for if you do... I will be forced to undertake more severe methods of treatment which could cause excruciating pain and end up with you in a comma until you recover", Salek said

"Now then Mr. Wong... you were extremly lucky. You will survive.", Salek said to the man, "Whatever made these wounds seems to have made rather shallow cuts and did not sever any of your arteries, for had it done so you would not be talking now."
"Great. This is probably my best near death experience yet" Tiberian muttered half sarcastically "Well, seeing as I didn't actually die. Anyroad, patch me up quick, I have job to do and a cat to kill"
I will be forced to undertake more severe methods of treatment which could cause excruciating pain and end up with you in a coma until you recover", Salek said
Tiberian looked up at the Vulcan in a semi state of shock, a quick retort not coming to him, probably due to the blood loss. He wasn't sure if the statement had been a warning or a threat, but one way or the other he knew he had met a rare species, a doctor who couldn't be stared down. He was tempted to argue back, but he was unsure how much of a serious threat the coma had been. Anyway, it was much more convenient to simply sit and wait until the doctor left before he made any sort of attempt to leave and be a hero, or an idiot again.
"I'll have the transfusion here, and I'll be good" Tiberian finally settled on a response "You'll need to have the transporter rooms beam whatever you need here, I'm trying to limit the crew movement between decks"
<TAG Doctor Salek>
As the doctor moved off to set up his treatment, Tiberian looked around. Everyone in engineering was in a frightful panic, and scurried back and forth, trying to sort out whatever their particular duties entailed. A security officer came over and knelt down besides him, tapping him on the shoulder.
"Sir, forcefields and door locks are all in place. All hatches, entrances and vents are sealed off. The only way in is through the transporter systems"
"Thanks you ensign" Tiberian replied replied wearily, now regretting that he hadn't opted to ask the doctor for more stimulants "Get Commander Blakus, I need to ask him a few things"
"Er..." the ensign stammered a little, obviously feeling that what he was about to say would not in any way aid Wong's recuperation "He left sir, before we sealed engineering. His Assistant is missing on deck 16 I think, he went to look for him"
"WHAT!" Tiberian yelled, his previous fear, blood loss, vomiting and outrigtht fatigue all being surpassed by a sudden rush of endorphins and adrenaline "IS HE BLOODY INSANE!"
"I..I'm...er, not sure sir" the ensign stammered "He was armed, and I believe he took Ensign Bligh with him"
"Oh great, so we can have two dead senior engineers rather than just one" Tiberian made a move to get up, gesturing the security officer to help him "Get me to the central console" He ordered, adding upon sight of the doctor eying him across the room "And someone get me a chair"
He was deposited on an upturned cargo container in fornt of one of the main panels, being flanked by a pair of security officers, and with Tiana and the doctor, along with engineers at all the other parts of the display.
=/\=Wong to Blakus, if you were that desperate to stretch your legs, you could have just walked into the antimatter storage pod, it would probably have been safer. I'm guessing that there's nothing I can say to make you come back right now is there?=/\=
<TAG Andae>
=/\=Well once you find Holland, stay where you are and comm me. I'm going to start sealing the ship deck by deck with bulkheads and transporters, so you'll have to be beamed back here. If you meet any security personnel, have them join you, I don't like you being out there alone. Good luck mate=/\=
<TAG Andae>
Tiberian rubbed his eyes and then blearily gazed at the console. The original concept of sealing the ship from within had been thought of, and was redundant because of the redundant air ventilation system. He knew he would be grateful for it when he needed it, but all it was right now was a colossal problem. He had a schematic of the whole network appear on the central display. There were a handful of key junctions on each deck which could restrict interdeck access, but none were above quarters, and could only be accessed by either levering off the ceiling panels, or crawling through the ventilation shafts themselves. He had the computer give a three dimensional rendering of each of the junctions, and he analysed them to see if they could be blocked.
"Lieutenant Mattheson, could you make some modifications to the portable shield generators"
"Yes sir, what do you want us to do?"
"I need you to fit an antigravity unit to each model, so it can suspend itself in air, and I need you to maximise the shield output capacity to the maximum tolerance that the emmitters can manage. Try and make the field so strong that it incapacitates anyone who touches it. I need 35 copies, and I need them within the hour. And before you start, activate all the emergency forcefields and bulkheads across the ship. Deactivate the turbolifts, and ensure that each deck is as independent as it can be made"
"I'm on it" Mattheson stood and turned, wondering how the hell he was going to complete the Colonel's orders.
"Tiana, I need you to work on the internal sensors. If you can't get me full sensors back that's fine, but I at least need motion sensors. Same time limit as Mattheson, can you do it?"
<TAG Tiana>
Tiberian rested his chin on the console, looking at the 3D diagram before him. The only way he could get these floating shield units to the necessary points was for someone to go crawling through the vents. Not only was this near impossible for most of the crew, but if the Caitian caught up with them, it was going to be a massacre.
"Computer, identify any Starfleet or Marine personnel on this ship who are capable of fitting through the air ventilation system, using all known parameters"
"Processing. Seven potential crewmembers have necessary size in order to fit through all necessary tubes. Ensign Lauren Dorset, Petty Officer 1st Class Lysral, Crewman 2nd Class Ti Reugen, Lieutenant V'Mal, Private First Class Satie, Captain Nikaila Cir'Kem and Commander Tiana Galwyn"
"Computer, locate all named personnel"
"Unable to comply, internal sensors are offline"
Tiberian cursed softly. Even i he could identify them anyway, the equipment was in engineering, and they were probably trapped in half a dozen different areas of the ship. There were only two people on the ship that he could reliably locate, and that he could get the necessary equipment to. He stood, with the help of the doctor and moved over to Tiana. He looked at the Trill working and sighed. If he could only do this himself he would, but not only was he anaemic, but he was also too big.
"Tiana, I need a word" he said gingerly "When we have these shield generators ready, someone is going to have to place them at the interdeck junctions in order to insulate each deck from the other. It's our best hope of catching the killer. The problem is that there are only seven people onboard who are capable of fitting through those vents, and you're one of the only two that I can get all the necessary gear to. I would not ask you under any other circumstances, but without these fields, the Caitian can keep moving deck to deck and we can't stop him. Ocne you're got motion sensors online we'll guid you there from here, and we can warn you if anyone is in the same section, that way we can keep you safe. Don't answer me yet, think it through and tell me when you're ready"
<TAG Tiana>
Lightly resting on a console, Tiberian hailed the bridge, asking to speak to the Captain. When she came on the line, he relayed the entire message to her, but this time informing her that she too could fit the vents.

"It would highly illogical to have the equipment brought here by hand even if there was no danger Mr. Wong", Salek countered
"I will contact sickbay and have them prepare the solution. After they are done i will have it transported here", he added
As Salek went of to contact sickbay he kept his eye on the marine, in his current condition he was in no shape to go walking of anywhere and Salek had no plans on him dieing just yet and certainly not from something as loss of blood. He contacted sickbay and told them to get the solution for Mr. Wong to find the proper protein coding for his blood type in the records and to transport it over as soon as possible.
When he was done he returned to Wong and observed his activities. It seemed there was a Caitian loose on the ship and he was causing trouble for everyone it seemed. Not only that he had killed a number of people and was claiming that he was poisoned and the poison was the cause of his current condition. That was highly unusual. People who are acting under the influence of a poison never went on talking about how the poison was making them kill people, at least not in any of the cases he ever saw.
"Mr. Wong, now you say this Caitian claims he was poisoned? Do you not find it illogical for someone under the influence of a poison to be aware of this while he is still under its influence?", Salek questioned
<Tag Wong>
As Wong gave him a reply, Salek received a comm. from sickbay that the solution was ready.
=/\=Transport it to my coordinates in 5 seconds.=/\=, he said
And five seconds later, right where he was standing 5 seconds ago, an infusion device with 1,5 liters of solution appeared. He picked up the equipment and went over to Wong.
"Now Mr. Wong i will attempt to cause you as little discomfort as i am able considering you have been such a model patient. I will attach this infuser to your cephalic vein on the dorsum of your fist which should cause minimal discomfort.", Salek said
<Tag Wong>
Salek took the needle and a sterilizer and sterilized the top side of the man's fist, then he hit it a few times to get the vein to show up, afterward he guided the needle inside of it and added a plaster to hold it in. Then he attached the infuser and activated it.
"There you go Mr. Wong, you will functioning according to specified parameters for your species in no time", Salek said

Tiana and her escort hurried through the deserted corridors, everyone was either on station or in their quarters. Except of course those who were trying to catch a killer before he struck again.
Tiana turned a corner and nearly ran straight into Andae and his escort. "Please tell me you're not running from him, he's not on the deck is he?" He asked.
Tiana shook her head, not sparing the breath to talk.
"That's good, we should head for engineering, there are already three or four security officers down there, as long as we go somewhere where we know there's relative safety we should be Ok." Tiana nodded and the two of them and their escorted headed off with a new purpose, not that they had actually stopped moving before.
It was seconds later that their comm badges chirpped. =/\=Wong to Blakus and Galwyn, have your escorts get you to engineering. We need internal sensors, and we need a battle plan=/\=
=/\=We're on our way=/\= Tiana responded.
They reached Main Engineering without incident and Tian quickly got to work helping repair the internal forcefields. She wasn't an engineer but she was technically savvy and willing to learn. At the moment they needed all the help they could get.
She was dimmly aware of Tiberian's arrival and the new CMO but couldn't spare the time to greet either she was literally up to her elbows in circuitry.
She slammed the open panel shut with a satisfying clang and removed the welding wand from between her teeth. It seemed Tiberian had a plan a she joined the group around the console to hear it. "Tiana, I need you to work on the internal sensors. If you can't get me full sensors back that's fine, but I at least need motion sensors. Same time limit as Mattheson, can you do it?"
"I'll get on it now, I'll let you know how long I think the repair will take." She set to work joining a couple of engineers. She understood the importance of the sensor but they really were damaged
"Tiana, I need a word" Tiberian said Tiana turned away from the panel and took a few steps away. There was something in the marine's eyes that warned her she might not like what he was about to tell her.
"When we have these shield generators ready, someone is going to have to place them at the interdeck junctions in order to insulate each deck from the other. Once you're got motion sensors online we'll guide you there from here, and we can warn you if anyone is in the same section, that way we can keep you safe. Don't answer me yet, think it through and tell me when you're ready"
Tiana didn't really need to think, but she kept quite long enough for Tiberian to contact the Captain as well. Then she stood squarely in front of him and spoke.
"I'm up for going," Tiana's voice was flat but as she continued to speak her anger and frustration began to leak into her words. "Since that killer arrive on this ship I've been caught up in a hostage situation, nearly blown out into space, nearly suffocated and had one of my team murdered. You'd better believe I'd do whatever needs to be done to stop him killing again."
Maybe she was crazy but she knew she wouldn't be able to live with herself if she said no. She knew this was very dangerous and she was scared which she supposed meant that her rationality was still working. Still the only way she wouldn't be going was if she was ordered not to.

M'Qess had tried to lunge at the marine, knowing that he'd managed to injure him badly. The poison coursed through his veins, causing him excruciating pain, clouding his mind and judgement.
The Kzinti/Caitian crawled towards the turbolift doors, inch by inche, digging his claws into the carpet as he dragged himself forward. The doors hissed open, much to his good fortune and he dragged himself inside. His whole body was in agony, his fur matted by his pain. He was barely inside when the doors hissed closed, catching the end of his tail between them.
M'Qess howled in agony, his shrill cry echoing eerily up and down the shaft as the car awaited his orders. "S-sickbay," he panted as he pulled himself upright. He wanted to kill, needed to kill; his senses were clouded, he no longer knew who or what he was, or why he was here.
He tumbled out of the car, sprawling into the corridor and remained still, having lost consciousness altogether. His body spasmed occasionally as his muscles fought the poison.

"Alright then" Tiberian nodded admiringly, his already burgeoning respect for Tiana having gone through the roof "Get those sensors up and running and then we're halfway there"
He moved off, pulling the infusion device with him as he walked, as the doctor had promised it wasn't too uncomfortable or constricting, and he was already beginning to feel the beneficial effects of the blood product transfusion. He motioned to Doctor Salek to join him at the central area of the engine room as he leaned over looking at the ship schematics.
"I think we're alright here for the moment doctor, but there might be other casualties as this escalates. I'll beam you back to sickbay and then co-ordinate emergency transports there as and when situations arise. Plus, if you have any down time before things kick off, could you just compile a hypothetical list of neurotoxic agents that might drive people into a killing frenzy. I understand your logic about it seeming unlikely, but Caitian's are naturally docile, and I've only ever seen this occur before when a neural parasite was involved. Comm me when you have something"
<TAG Doctor Salek>
As the doctor was beamed away, Tiberian leaned on the console and began to make a detailed inspection of the diagrams before him. Once the vents were all shut off, the ship would be truly insulated deck by deck. At this stage he would at least have secured most of the ships population from harm, but concurrently exposed a limited section to even more imminent danger. A cornered animal was a lot more dangerous than when it was at large, and if M'Qess realised that there was no way out, he might simply decide to take as many people down with him as he could. He needed something that could immobilise him, preferably in a single shot, and without giving him the opportunity to go on a last minute rampage. The standard ship anti intruder countermeasures were out of the question, with him not having access to the data about tissue absorbancy and perfusion rates of anaesthesine gas. Phasers too were unlikely to be a solution, as his memories from bellicose reminded him about how the hide of a Sivoan protected them from all but the highest of phaser settings, and with anamtomical similarities, this was likely to apply to the Caitian too. Anyway, sending out hunting parties with rifles set to kill was only liable to cause unnecessary loss of life, both in regards to the crew and his own troops. He remembered the solution that D'Angelo had arrived at was a biochemical tranquiliser set specifically to the Sivoan's biology. If they could come up with something similar now, it would provide an excellent weapon.
=/\=Wong to Doctor Salek. Sorry to interrupt your work, but I need you to go into the databanks and find a biochemical agent that will act as a potent fast acting tranquiliser, specifically on Caitian's. I think I've worked out a way of immobilising him=/\=
<TAG Doctor Salek>
=/\=Wong to Blakus. Andae, are you ready to beam back yet=/\=
<TAG Andae>
=/\=When you get here, I need you to clobber something together for me. I need something like a TR 116 rifle, but capable of firing darts, not bullets. I took the replicators offline earlier when we were dealing with the tribbles, but the explosion must have fused them off, so I can't replicate it, and I don't know how to build something like that from scratch=/\=
<TAG Andae>
~About an hour later~
Tiberian was on his knees alongside Lieutenant Mattheson inspecting the newly completed shield emmitters. They were spherical with a single access control, all the emmitter array and anti grav device being bult into the centre of the equipment. As requested there were thirty five copies, although each with a slightly different configuration due to the fact that they had been built from whatever non essential equipment could be conveniently cannibalised. No bigger than a miniature football and weighing no more than just under a kilo each, they were convenient for transport and would do the job they were required to. Tiberian motioned Tiana over to join them as Mattheson talked them through the arming mechanism.
"I've pre-programmed each model with a self activating algorithm, and configured each of the access panels so that they all look the same. Just input the activation sequence alpha-three-two-zero-nine-delta, and the anti-gravity unit'll come online. There's then a five second delay to get clear before the sensor module scans the area for vertices and activates however many fields are necessary. I've linked them all to a deadlocked panel in main engineering so we can control all the fields, and deactivate them once the crisis is over"
Tiberian nodded and then turned to Tiana, handing her a padd as he motioned to two crewmen to begin packing the emmitters into the backpack he had taken out.
"I've programmed this with a map of the vent system. All the vents will be marked, and the map is the same so you shouldn't get lost, but if you do now we've got the motion sensors back we'll direct you"
He stood and went over to the nearest vent, deactivating the portable shield generator and prying the vent grill from the wall.
"You might want to remove your tunics and any equipment besides your phaser and padd. I've hooked a strap onto the backpack so you can pull it behind you without getting stuck. Also set your phaser to kill. You're unlikely to meet anyone else up there, and if you do, and it's the Caitian, stun setting won't have any effect. Any last words?"
<TAG Tiana>
Tiberian clipped the extension cord of the backpack around her waist, and with the help of Mattheson lifted her up into the vent by a mixture of hoisting and pushing. He was sincerely glad that Katie wasn't present to see what he had to grab to get her in. He pushed the cord and pack in after her and then replaced the grill and forcefield. He moved back to the centre table and opened a comm channel to Tiana, observing her flashing dot on the otherwise uninformative motion sensors.
"Alright Tiana, off you go"

The two officers skipped quietly down the corridor to the next intersection. They had their phasers raised and at the ready, not through want, but through necessity. Commander Blakus led the way, he backed himself up against the wall and took his time to lean out into the next section of corridor. It was all clear. He looked behind him and signalled for Ensign Bligh to come up alongside.
The way the two of them were acting, it could be forgiven for someone to think that the brown-uniformed duo were security officers, yet that was not so. They were simply engineers, combat trained yes, but engineers all the same.
Blakus wiped his face and noticed how he was sweating profusely, again. He checked the deck number that was displayed on the data panel behind the two of them. It was still reading 16. They were on the right deck. "Are you sure it was this section Holland said he was going to?" The chief looked at Bligh trying to coax an answer out of the seemingly distracted Ensign.
Bligh nodded, "Definitely," he said. Blakus sighed; he was getting increasingly frustrated.
=/\=Wong to Blakus, if you were that desperate to stretch your legs, you could have just walked into the antimatter storage pod, it would probably have been safer. I'm guessing that there's nothing I can say to make you come back right now is there?=/\=
Blakus was tempted to say sshh! and nearly did. It probably wasn't necessary but he didn't want any excess noise.. just, just in case... He tapped his commbadge in a quick motion of his right hand, which instantly made his arm hurt again. =/\=Sorry Colonel, I'm half way across the river, what's the use in coming back?=/\= His reply was abstract, but still to the point. He looked around, his eyes darting into the shadows of the recesses in the corridor ahead, trying to espy any hidden assailant. Seeing nothing on first sight, he nodded to Bligh over his shoulder and they tip-toe ran down the stretch of corridor.
Blakus raised an eyebrow at the Colonel's buddy-buddy reply, he replied coolly, =/\=Thank you Colonel.=/\= Blakus found himself growing more and more respectful for the SMO, at least, that's what he thought deep down within him. His general conscience mind however failed to accept it.. He understood that this was happening, but it was not something he could take hold of in his mind and change. Why was that? Before he had a chance to ponder any further Lieutenant Holland appeared from the doorway upon the left, just a few metres down the corridor. "Holland!" He called out. The ACEO saw them instantly and jogged towards them. "No," Blakus said as he came up to his assistant, "Let's go into that room you came from, hopefully we can be beamed back to Engineering. Have you seen M'Qess?" Holland shook his head.
"Good. Right let's get out of here." Blakus said. He sighed in relief and moved to tap his badge, but just before his hand reached it, it went off.
=/\=Wong to Blakus. Andae, are you ready to beam back yet=/\=
Blakus didn't have to tap his badge because he'd already done so. =/\=Yes Colonel. You're free to beam us over there.=/\= Wong told the CEO what he wanted and Blakus thought of just exactly how he was going to do that as the cold wash of the transporter cascaded over his body, and with the feeling of dissolving matter was another sensation, a feeling of pure relief that nothing had gone awry.
The three engineers were beamed out and were deposited back in the engine room. Blakus blew out a breath and looked around, after recuperating from the intense stress and pressure, he started gathering up a team to figure out the phaser rifle. He probably could have done it himself, but when you had a team of engineers, why do it alone? It was a team effort in Andae's Engineering, which was probably what the good working atmosphere owed a lot to.
A little bit later...
Blakus carefully lifted the completed dart-rifle and put it down on the surface of the console in front of Colonel Wong. The Colonel turned from helping Tiana into the vent and set his eyes on the rifle. Blakus released his hands from the rifle and stood up straight, settting his own eyes on the SMO. "I assume you are planning on using this yourself?" He asked and looked back down at the weapon. "Ingenious. Where did you think this one up from?"
<Tag Wong>
The CEO went off, planning on helping Mattheson finish making the decks independent. The two officer's stood around a schematic of the ship, which showed side-on views of every deck. By tapping the display in the appropriate area, an orthographic representation of each deck could be obtained. "Right," Blakus said, "I not only want these decks individualised, but I want around-the-clock observation of each one using the internal sensors, now that they're partially back online. Mattheson and a group of three others nodded and stepped forward to the display, they started discussing as Blakus stepped back and away. He noticed Christina Taylor working on one of the side consoles, he walked up to her. She had been part of the team working on the rifle but Andae hadn't had a chance to talk to her. He looked over her shoulder now, "Are we OK?" He asked. She nodded in reply without turning around. After Blakus asked what was wrong she did turn and the CEO found that he was, to his own surprise, really desperate that he hadn't somehow offended her.

Tiana had been busy for the past hour although she hadn't been involved in the building of the shield generators. She had helped get the internal sensors more-or-less back on line she didn't know how long they would stay that way. Once she got in the ducting she could be on her own. The nerves were definitely beginning to kick in now but she was going to go through with this. The engineers signalled that they were ready for her and she downed tools to join them.
I've linked them all to a deadlocked panel in main engineering so we can control all the fields, and deactivate them once the crisis is over"
Tiana nodded and repeated the activation code back, wouldn't do to forget that. Tiberian gave her a PADD she looked at the detailed 3D map presented to her.
"I've programmed this with a map of the vent system. All the vents will be marked, and the map is the same so you shouldn't get lost, but if you do now we've got the motion sensors back we'll direct you"
Again Tiana nodded. There was little she could say, there was no backing out now. She watched as Tiberian pried a vent grill open
Tiana took most of this advice, she stripped down to her sleeveless undertunic. She noted with a half smile that Tiberian was determinedly trying not to look at her. Then she broke into a proper smile.
"Why should I have any last words, I'm coming back to talk to you later. You still haven't tried out that phaser rifle after I went to all the trouble of fixing the schematics."
She dutifully set her phaser to kill, she had never had to do that before. Then holstered it again. Tiana thought for a moment an then snagged a small laser cutter and tucked it into the holster as well. She replaced her comm badge and them brushed her hands together.
"I'm ready." Tiberian and Matteson boosted her up to the vent. It was not a dignified process but she was soon able to get a grip on the sides of he vent and start pulling herself along. She was just grateful that smal spaces didn't bother her. Tiberian had said that the computer had calculated that she could fit through the ducting but there couldn't have been very much in it. Another few centimetres here or there and she would be able to do this.
She heard the sounds of the grating being replaced behind her but couldn't turn round to check. Then Tiberian's voice came over her comm badge.
"Alright Tiana, off you go"
"On my way, fifty metres to the first drop off point and quiet so far."

Tiberian was wandering aimlessly around the engine room, undoubtedly annoying the various engineers who were trying to work in already strained circumstanceswithout the injured marine staring over their shoulders. He didn't like the fact that Tiana was stuck in the vents, possibly with the Caitian stalking her already, he could faintly hear her communications coming through to the engineer manning the centre console, and from the sound of her voice could tell that she wasn't doing too badly. She should have deployed a good few of the shield generators by now, leaving the Caitian virtually nowhere to run except down into the uninhabited bowels of the ship. The chance of the furball surrendering didn't even cross Tiberian's mind, he had already seen the poise, precision and daring of the creature, and from his supposed training, doubt he had ever attended a class on when to give up. After a while Blakus motioned him over to where he had successfully assembled the dart rifle.
"I assume you are planning on using this yourself?" He asked and looked back down at the weapon. "Ingenious. Where did you think this one up from?"
"An old Earth programme, for what they used to call a television. I used to love them as a child, so did my father. I got this one from a programme called Stargate, it was science fiction, completely unbelievable of course. Particle weapons might not penetrate his hide, but this needle will"
He removed the magazine, pulling out each individual dart and laying it on the floor. There were ten in all, and no replacement magazine, but without replicators he hadn't expected this much. The weapon was semi automatic, allowing him to make carefully aimed shots, and preventing him from wasting his precious ammunition carelessly. He reloaded each dart and the magazine and prepared the rifle, examining the trigger with great care.
"I'll have a phaser with me too. If I can't stop him with this, I'll vaporise him with that. And if that fails..." He moved over to one of the auxilliary weapon lockers in engineering, and removed a photon grenade from a sealed cabinet. "We're going to see just how tough our guest is"
Slinging the rifle over a hook on the infuser he was dragging behind him, he moved over to a sensor display which was showing all of the movement on the ship with little white dots. He was about to move away when one of the crewmen made a strange statement.
"That's odd" he muttered, tapping the panel on one side.
"What is it Mr Daniels" Tiberian turned around and looked over the man's shoulder, following the blips on the console.
"I'm detecting movement on deck 29, but no-one is supposed to be down there"
"Could it be the Caitian" Tiberian's attention perked up "Is there any way of identifying them?"
"Negative sir, we still don't have personal transponder recognition online"
"Well I'm not going down there on a chance" Tiberian muttered quietly, then becoming audible "There's no-one else on that deck, so even if it is the Caitian, he'll be stuck for people to kill. Let him stew for the moment, and keep me appraised"
He moved off, and was less than ten paces away when Daniels' voice echoed around the engine room.
"I'm detecting fluctuations in the antimatter storage pod system"
Most of the engine room staff moved off to one console or the other, leaving a large gap in the middle of the room as the edges became crowded. Tiberian darted back to the centre table and tapped a few keys.
"Is there any chance it could be coincidental. A left over affect of the explosion?"
"Negative sir, someone is deliberately overriding the lockouts on the containment field. At this rate I'm predicting full antimatter breach in five minutes or less"
"I've got to get down there" Tiberian unslung his rifle, and was about to move off when a searing pain crossed his gut. He yelped and doubled over, having to be helped back to standing by two engineers. One man scanned him with a tricorder, his face grimacing.
"Sir, you've got a splennic haematoma. Even a slight jolt might rupture it, and you'd bleed to death in minutes"
Tiberian admitted defeat, moving to rest heavily on a console. He looked around, his eyes scanning for the one person present who might be able to deal with this situation.
"Andae" he proffered the rifle "You'll have to go alone. There's only one weapon, and if there's more you'll be heard. Just get a nice clean shot, and then stabilise the containment. We'll try to do what we can from here. Good luck"
<TAG Andae/M'Qess>
As Blakus beamed away, Tiberian turned wearily back to the panel, now needing the aid of another simply to stay vertical.
"Tell Tiana to stop what she's doing and get back here now, I need her help to buy time with the antimatter containment"
<TAG Tiana>
=/\=Wong to Commander Matthew, I need to disable whatever systems you think we can spare and redirect all available power to the antimatter containment system. Potential breach in progress=/\=
<TAG Commander Matthew>
