Tiana was sitting in her quarters staring at her reflection in her mirror. Her eyes were red and she looked a sight. She swallowed hard. The last mission had badly frayed her nerves and then Russ had left. Still she wasn't going to fall apart and she wasn't going to give up what she enjoyed doing. Havan had told her that one day she'd come slinking home from starfleet having realised that it wasn't for her, that had been the last time they had spoken, nearly three years ago now. Not to mention Celvis, who according to her parents was still waiting for her and in the process annoying them. She had friends on the Victory, that was clear it was just a matter of clearing a few things up.
She had tried a couple of times so far to record a message for Russ but every time her emotions had gotten the better of her, not that there was anything wrong with that. But she didn't want to guilt trip him. Whatever had called him back to Earth had to be important and no doubt he'd call when he could.
"Computer record message, audio only.
Russ, I am sorry I couldn't say goodbye to you in person. I hope you are well and whatever you needed to sort out is solved quickly. I am here for you, if there is anything at all I can do to help please let me know. The Victory isn't that far from Earth by subspace. I'm going to miss you too Russ, I love you."
Tiana paused a second. "Computer save message. Transmit to Commander First Class Russell Davis."
The computer beeped its acceptance of her orders and then. Tiana got up and wiped the last tears from her eyes. She hoped Russ would reply at least to let her know he had arrived back safely and was okay.
She changed into some slightly tatty coveralls and braided her hair back into a tight bun then she headed for the holodeck. As she had hoped, most of the crew were on the starbase so no doubt had better things to do than the on ship holodeck. "Computer load program Galwyn Alpha three." She hadn't run this particular simulation since she had arrived on the Victory now though she needed it.
"Setting?" The computer requested. Tiana thought for a moment then answered.
"Three. Change safety protocols to programme specified."
"Programme ready, setting three, safety protocols set" Tiana smiled and steeped through the holodeck door. Immediately she noted an acrid chemical tang in the air and had to fight not to cough.
