Curse of the Phantom

This year was going to be different. Nobody was going to take the chance that Michael would spread a little anarchy aboard the ship like he always did. Therefore the captain had ordered that Commander Aarons be kept under security observation from the start. The task of watching Michael of course fell to the Marines, although the regular security would have loved to handle the job as they had fallen victim to his mischief in the past.
"Guys, is this really necessary?" They were silent as they escorted him to his daily post. On the far end of the ship, a noisy rattling panel was left partially unhooked. It attracted the attention of all those stationed in that area. As they congregated around it, it was decided to pop the panel off and see what it was rattling around inside. The panel was removed when out splatter a heaping pile of gunk. They were splattered with it and it smelled none too fresh either. As they wiped the stuff from their face they found that it turned their skin green except those with already different colored skin which took a different toll.
They made it to the bridge incident free. Michael sat down and began to review the flight logs and take control of what the ship was doing. The captain entered from her ready room and crossed to her chair. She hadn't sat but merely a few seconds when Hawk stormed onto the bridge. He was in a twist about something and he stopped, glaring at Aarons.
"What is it?" Kay inquired. Hawk turned so that it became apparent that a pair of little angel wings had been adhered to the back of his clothes.
"And that's not all! There was also 'I is the O-riginal Reci-p' scrawled over my door. Michael began laughing.
"You have got to escort me down there so I can see it!"
"It's too late! I've already seen to having it cleaned off!" Kay ushered the Major along with Hawk over to speak privately. Michael watched and as she talk with Leo and Hawk got off into an outrage. Finally it ended with Hawk taking his seat and scowling the whole time trying to pull the damn wings off. Michael tried to maintain his work but was disturbed by Hawks attitude toward him. Kay meanwhile ducked into the latrine at the back of the bridge. Everyone heard a pop and a splash. The doors opened and Kay slowly walked out dripping with wetness.
"Get off my bridge!"
she said shooting daggers from her eyes at the navigator. Michael rushed Leo into the turbolift past Kay as the other Marines followed.
Elsewhere on the ship, TEG was doing his daily rounds of the ship making sure that everything was going smoothly. He walked past a corridor when a sweet aroma hit him. He was lured to a small reading alcove amid the ship's hallways. On one of the end tables lay a plate of cookies. TEG was skeptic that such an innocent thing could occur on such a day as this. He produced a tricorder and began to thoroughly scan the confections. They registered clean, surprisingly.
"It's alright everyone. They're clean." He and others around him partook of the sugary goods. What TEG didn't realize was that the cookies broke down incredibly well and became stuck all over the XO's teeth. He moved along visiting the rest of the ship smiling all the way.
Michael had made it a personal project of his to work toward a better way of the ship achieving maximum velocity. Anything he could do to increase the ship's overall speed and that didn't meet with Engineering's disapproval he would implement on the ship. After the treatment he was receiving on the bridge today, he resigned to accomplishing part of his goal today. Down in Engineering, Dyton was planning on getting some work done on the warp core. The staff was mostly gathered in the main area of Engineering when suddenly the emergency bulkhead came sliding down, trapping them within. The lights mysteriously went out and save for the few pulses from the core, no one could see anything but a pair of glowing dots from a pair of tactical goggles on the upper gangway. Everyone was frightened by the event when suddenly came a thwump!! followed by more as the those gathered where pelted with paintballs. The mystery cloaked figure moved quickly getting everyone, leaving welts and a few bruises as well as a mess of paint everywhere.
Michael worked to improve the data bus network interfacing his work station to that of the engine systems. It was hoped that if the different impulse assemblies could be made to have more lightning reactions to commands, maybe the Majesty would handle better in tactical situations. He did his various alterations at one of the many systemic junctions along the way when security came around the corner gunning for him. They encircled Aarons and the CTSO held him against the wall. The Major took hold of said hand and forced him to let go.
"What is the problem here?" He was serious yet fair about this.
"There was an incident in Engineering and it has his name written all over it!"
"Unless that writing was his handwriting I'll have to ask you to stand down and not threaten someone I'm tasked with monitoring."
"But you don't know what he's capable of doing like we do." They had seen and felt the brunt of Michael's antics in the past and hated every minute of it year in and year out.
"Well I do know where he's been for the last several hours and unless you plan to show me some kind of evidence strongly pointing to him I'm going to have to ask you to move along." The CTSO was furious at the Marine's actions and slowly backed down from the fight. Aarons on the other hand was slowly appreciating the protection he was being granted by the Major and kept deliberately quiet for fear of retaliation.
In the mess hall, Nik was enjoying a bit of time off and devising another pet project to tend to in his off hours when Homer entered the room. He crossed to his master and just as Nik became aware of his presence subjected him to an atomic wedgie.
"Homer!? What are you doing?!" Nik dangled slightly out of his chair as his faithful machine still gripped his underwear. Nik fought his way loose and felt the discomfort of it all.
"I was merely following orders, sir." Nik found that a control chip had been inserted into his companion providing him the orders to perform the heinous act in front of everybody. On the chip was scrawled a single name: Erik. Greenwood inquired to the computer who 'Erik' was and had to sort through tons of results. It occurred to Nik to limit his search to cultural references only and after a sizable portion was removed, he was able to begin figuring out the significance of the name. There were a few dozen names and results matching the name when Nik finally came to the right conclusion.
"So, we have a phantom at work." Nik went off to inform the captain. In the meantime of all this investigating, numerous acts of terror had gone on throughout the ship and most everyone wanted to get their hands around Aarons' neck.
Michael was brought before most of the senior staff in the Observation Lounge. TEG had managed to finally remove any unsightly resin from his teeth and Kay had mostly dried off. Jamey, who had this entire time been fighting with an obstinate pink hair dye that had found its way onto his head, was looking a little tinted. Michael was nervous, he hated being treated like he was in trouble even when he knew he had done nothing wrong. The Major and his subordinates had answered for his guided activities the entire day and despite the general skeptitude he was dismissed and let go.
Michael returned to his quarters while the Marines remained outside after a harrowing day of accusation, mistrust, and no privacy. He entered his dark room and headed straight for his bed wanting to take a nap before trying to salvage what was left of that day. He flopped down and embraced a pillow wishing for sleep's reward. He looked out amid his room and there loomed a shrouded figure standing over him, holding a pie (a chocolate satin pie) poised to strike. The figure approached him and he backed up against the headboard. The mystery guest's face was concealed, the figure unrecognizable and it leaned in close to him. Michael feared this stranger's actions when they pulled away the shroud. It was the good doctor, or more precisely the naughty doctor who plagued the ship. She offered him the pie.
"You."
"You did this." He took the pie as she smiled.
"I did it all for you. What d'ya think?"
He was touched. She got on the bed with him.
"You did this all for me?" She admitted to being the one behind it all. "Baby you are so great!" He pulled her in close and they kissed. Afterward... they had pie.
