Judd glanced at Savot, then back at the screen. "Of couse! That's why I didn't see it the first time around, I was lookin' for it in one language!" Judd tapped a couple of controls, and the display switched the code into Federation Standard representations of the respective languages. "That should make for easier translation," he said. "Now all we need is people who're familiar wih Klingon and Romulan languages. I don't suppose you are, sir?"

Savot nodded to the Engineer, "I am indeed Lieutenant, and our computer should be capable of performing at least a rudimentary translation of the languages involved. Unfortunately, even after we translate the code segments they will still be randomized in a pattern known only to the pirates. We will understand each piece of the puzzle, so to speak, but we will not know where to connect them."
Savot clasped his hands behind his back as was his way most of the time, "I have heard about the return transporter tag used by Lieutenant Wolf to 'return' an EMP device to the boarding vessel. It is highly probable that at least some members of the assault team were carrying either a communications device, or something akin to a tricorder to perform tightbeam communication with their ship's computer as they reported the progress of their assault attempt. Either of these would by necessity contain the base coding algorithm used by the pirates, or else access to their ship's computer would have been impossible. I presume Lieutenant Wolf was involved at least partly in searching the prisoners following their capture. Do you know where the items themselves have been stored, or the location of a manifest of the items discovered?"

Wolf: Standing there waiting for the prisoners to make up there mind weather to talk and trying to speed things up " You know Commader Parsons if we get hit and we loose our jamming abilities we could have a problem maybe we should boost sheild strenght down here in the brig That many explosion comming from the prisoner could cause problems" Saying just loud enough for the prisoners to hear.

At this, Judd grinned. "I know precisely where they are, Commander," he said. By way of answer, he rose from his seat, went to a small storage locker behind the desk, entered a code in the "stand-alone" lock, and opened it. From inside he took out a small case, which he set on the desk and opened. Inside were the communications devices which had been confiscated from the Pirates. "Theses what you were telking about, sir?"

Parsons grinned slightly back at Lt. Wolf and then positioned himself in front of the group of prisoners. "For those of you that cooperate, our medical staff will do all they can to remove or deactivate the devices."
The combination of incentives seemed to work. The pirates began shouting information one after the other. Parsons had them separated and taken into interrogation rooms. After those that were willing to talk were interrogated again, Parsons met with the interrogators, including Lt. Wolf.
"Captain, Parsons here, I believe we have compiled some useful information. We have some general consistencies in the information given by the prisoners. I am uploading my report now."
The interrogation report revealed that the Veridian was destroyed in an ambush, but much of her cargo and several members of her crew were being held at the pirate base.
"Captain, with your permission I will return to the bridge. I think Lt. Wolf can handle things down here."
"Acknowledged, Commander," replied Irae.
A few moments later Parsons emerged from a turbolift and took a seat at the tactical station.

Wolf: Watched Commander Parsons go and looked around the brig. Well lets see what else I can learn. Turning to the prisoners " Okay guys lets talk about this base now if you want me to get your boss I need to know what kind of defense he might have and what I might be able to do to get around them." Letting the pirates think for a moment wolf wondered about what his future aboard this ship was going to be like.

"These what you were talking about, sir?", Sandage asked as he procured indeed the very kind of items Savot had been describing.
"Quite so, Mr. Sandage", Savot nodded as he took 2 of the communicators from the pile and set them aside from the others. Following this, the vulcan took off his own combadge and had two tricorders brought to the makeshift workbench. Without missing a beat, Judd was right there handing the First Officer the precision tools needed for working on such minute equipment just as Savot's hand extended to accept them.
The vulcan began by removing the rear casing from his combadge. Setting aside the casing, he then carefully removed the hexagonal Subspace Tranceiver Assembly from the upper right section of the badge and set it next to the tricorder on the console-counter. He then took the pirate communicator and removed its casing as well. Skimming briefly over the internal components to judge which ones were the equivalent of those in the Starfleet issue badge, Savot located the square Command Override Circuit and the three-position toggle switch beside it. Flipping the toggle switch to the middle position, he set the pirate badge to Receive Protocol.
Returning to his badge, he adjusted the small Aperture Control at the top of the circuitry to narrow the RF transceiver's transmission field to transmit directly to the reception protocol on the pirate communicator. Finally setting aside the communicators, he prepared to finish his task with the tricorder. Removing its casing as he had the others, he carefully extracted the Auxiliary Diagnostic Buffer circuit. Also hexagonal in shape, this component was interchangable with a combadge's Subspace Transceiver Assembly, which is precisely what Savot put in the buffer circuit's place.
Having made all the necessary preparations, the vulcan Commander first double-tapped the activation node of his own combadge, priming it to link up with the pirate communicator's Reception Protocol. Leaning back to a full stand, Savot initiated the program by activating his communicator. With the alterations he had made to the various instruments, he had essentially caused the following:
-Activating his communicator now sent a signal from its RF transceiver to the pirate communicator's receiver.
-Upon receiving a signal, the pirate device would compare the incoming signal to the pirates' encryption algorithm.
-In so doing, the pirate communicator would access the correct algorithm in order to compare the incoming signal.
-When the correct algorithm had been brought up for comparison, instead of relaying the signal back to his own communicator, the pirate's sent the signal to the combadge's Subspace Transceiver Assembly, now located within the tricorder.
-As the tricorder monitored the signal interpretation, it recorded the correct encryption algorithm as it was brought up for comparison to the combadge's transmission, giving them just what they needed to apply to the translated segments of code and unlock the totality of the captured pirate data.
Nodding slightly in satisfaction, Savot quickly undid his modifications, returning each device to normal and reattaching his communicator. The vulcan handed the tricorder, now equipped with the correct decryption code to apply to the captured data files, to Lieutenant Sandage, "As soon as the data is fully decrypted transmit the base's coordinates to the helm and the remaining data to Mr. Hope's Ops station. Thank you for your assistance Lieutenant."
Savot gave a parting nod to Judd before turning and heading for the turbolift to return him to the main bridge, where they would soon be on their way to face the head of this pirate snake...

Judd returned the nodd, and waited until Savot was out of the room before sitting down and gaping in amazement at the assembly before him. I never woulda thought of cross-linkin' the two communicators with the tricorder. That's durned brilliant! he thought to himself, since it would have been at the least unseemly to say so to Savot. But Judd focused his attention on the tricorder, linking it to the computer terminal on his desk for quick download.
Judd waited....and waited...got himself a glass of water...took a sip....then the tricorder went Beeeep! Judd set the glass down and looked at the display, then grinned as he tapped his commbadge. =/\=Sandage to Bridge, I've got some coordinates for you, I'm sending them through...now!=/\= He hit the control, sending the information to the helm, and a second later getting confirmation of receipt.

OOC: I'm backposting to explain Kevin's absence during this.
ON:
Kevin sat on a biobed in Sickbay, a glass of exotic juice in his hand. A few minutes ago he'd begun to suffer the worst headache of his lif. The CMO had determined it was simply the first symptoms of a cold. After administrating a small dose of medicine the CMO had wandered off to more seriously damaged patients. A nurse had brought Kevin the juice, which was helping much more than the hypospray had.
"You can go now," the CMO said, passing by. "But keep to your quarters, if you can. Don't drink, and don't go back to the Bridge."
"I don't drink much," muttered Kevin, leaving with his glass of juice. He went to his quarters and fell asleep very quickly. Amazing, considering he was an insomniac. Maybe the doctor had put in more than cold medicine in that hypospray...
****************************************************
Kevin woke up feeling refreshed and free of a headache. He checked his chronometer and discovered he had only been out for a few short hours. His shift had not yet ended, so he headed to the Bridge. The turbolift he took had only one other occupant - Savot.
"Hello, Mr. Zimmerman. Feeling better?" asked the first officer.
Kevin nodded. "Yeah. I'll be awake all night, though, since I just took a nap. What's been happening?"
"You went to Sickbay after the initial battle was over, correct? Then the major discover we have had is the location of the pirates' base." Savot went on to explain the last few hours' events, and the two exited the turbolift, returning to their respective stations.

=/\=Sandage to Bridge, I've got some coordinates for you, I'm sending them through...now!=/\=, Savot and Kevin exitted the turbolift just before the word 'now'. Savot, knowing what it referred to, and Kevin, having been filled in by Savot on the way up to the bridge, both moved to take stations and get down to business.
Savot moved to one of the rear auxiliary stations and activated the console, though for the moment he remained standing to the right of the Captain's chair slightly behind. Irae straightened her posture a bit in an unconscious movement of preparation, "Do we 'ave the coordinates, Mr. Hope?"
Ethan nodded in response, "Affirmative Captain, we're ready to go."
Deis nodded in satisfaction, her eyes narrowing ever so slightly at the thought of putting a muzzle on this pirate group permanently, "Helm, lay in a course an' engage at Warp 3."
"Aye, Captain. ETA at that speed is... 37 minutes", came the reply from the young but seasoned Lieutenant currently manning the Nav station.
Deis turned her head slightly towards the science station, "Zimmerman, keep a close eye on those sensors. If'n ye can give an encore of yer previous success and get a fix on any other cloaked beasties they've got before they start openin' fire on us, do it." Then, tapping the intraship comm-button on her chair she address the entire crew, =^= This is the Captain. All hands to Battle Stations. Prepare for heavy engagement. =^=
The bridge lights dimmed slightly as the ship entered Red Alert status, klaxons sounding steadily in the background. The intimidating battleship then spun gracefully on her axis, angling away from the planet Verdatii, and shot forth through space to put a decisive end the Serafyn Blades menace...

Wolf: Listened as the pirates started talking and got what he needed he wasn't a computer expert but he knew who was and also new Commander Savot was with Sandage. " Lt Sandage ,Commander Savot I have some useful information for you the pirates are being very forth coming right now. Your going to want this I'm transmitting the accesses codes for the defense grid witch should give that ability to to pass through the outer perimeter unharmed. He couldn't give me the codes for the inner grid only the captains knew that but who knows maybe you 2 can come up with something wolf out" <Tag Sandage and Savot>

Judd took the information that Wolf sent, just as the call to Battlestations came through. Judd had already been preparing for this when the Captain's voice came over the intercom and the klaxxon's began blaring, bringing extra crew members into Engineering. He quickly looked over the settings that Lt. Runningwolf had sent, and immediately implemented them. =/\= Sandage to BRidge, Lieutenant Runningwolf has sent me some additional infformation which shoujld allow us to pass through their initial defenses unscathed. I'm implementing the information into our shield grid as we speak.=/\=

They were heading into battle and this time Ethan was dead scared. His mind was trying to find an excuse to dismiss this fear, he had in fact just been part of a battle. Then again this was very different, they were heading into battle knowing that they would face severe resistance.
Ethan knew without a shadow of a doubt that they were doing the right thing. The pirates were going to kill all the people on the planet if they didn't get to them. As klaxons went around them he told himself to relax and do what he was trained to do. He was under the command of effective and experienced officer, who would do what was best.
With these thoughts in his head and knowing that they were doing what was right, Ethan was ready to face whatever would befall them.

As the El Sal neared the pirate stronghold, the tension on the ship grew. Parsons had been checking in with his security teams around the ship and checking the tactical systems in preparation for the engagement to come.
As the ship approached the coordinates given by Sandage, the Captain gave the order to hail the pirate base.
"Aye, Captain," responded Parsons. A few seconds later as the El Sal was coming to a stop. "Captain, repeated hails have gone unanswered."
Just as the conn officer was signaling all stop, the tactical display lit up. "Captain," Parsons shouted, "nearly a dozen ships decloaking around the base."

Wolf: Started his patrols with the rest of the security detail. Walking the halls of his new home he couldn't help but to be impressed the crew were doing the jobs they all knew what was at stake. Still he felt useless right now he knew the patrols were importan and hope deep down that things would go alright but he still felt useless. Walking by engineering to check on them he noticed Sandage busy working not wanting to interrupt he walked over to Sandage desk and place the extra phaser rifle on it. Then headed to the transporter rooms to make sure they were secure.

"Their weapons are powering up," said Kevin. "Statistically, the odds are against us."
"All power to forward shields," ordered Irae. "Any more ships we can't see, Mr. Zimmerman?"
Kevin shook his head. "None within sensor range. I suggest we retreat. They cannot move their base too quickly. We could return with more ships later."
"Unfortunately, I doubt they would allow us the opportunity. Assuming we were able to make it back to the nearest Starbase, it could take days to rally the proper ammount of strength. By then the pirates could have disappeared," said Savot. "I believe if we eliminate the base their communications will be significantly reduced in terms of efficiency."
"He's right," said Kevin, catching on to Savot's almost unspoken proposal. "It would be much cheaper to simply put the heart of the communications network for the pirates in that base, rather than building backups in each ship. Of course, they will still be able to talk to each other, but only one at a time."
"Run that by me again," ordered Irae.
"Um... well, it takes a while to explain, but essentially in order to communicate with more than one ship at a time you need more expensive components," said Kevin, talking quickly. "Or you need to use someone else's hardware. The pirates typically only need to communicate with one other ship, and they don't want to waste money, so why would they purchase more stuff than they needed? I bet only their base has all the hardware to talk to more than one ship at a time."
"Incoming fire," reported Savot.
The ship shook slightly, but the able helmsman managed to dodge more than one of the pirates' weapons.
"Mr. Zimmerman, monitor frequencies. Confirm our hypothesis that the communications network is primarily housed inside the base," ordered Savot.
"Aye, sir," said Kevin.

"Permission to engage skirmishers, Captain," requested the CTSO.
"Granted, Mr. Parsons," responded Irae. "Helm, evasive manuevers. Keep the ships we engage between us and the rest of the fleet as much as possible."
Parsons opened fire with all three weapons systems, laying down an impressive field of fire. The ships weaved in and out of the El Sal's viewscreen. A direct hit was scored on one ship disabling it.
"One down, Captain... she's drifting... theses ships are mostly older classes, no match for the El Sal one on one, but Kevin is right. There are just too many of them," said Parsons as his hands moved furiously over the tactical console.
"Hypothesis confirmed, the base is definately the communications hub for the pirate fleet," Kevin reported.

"Hypothesis confirmed, the base is definately the communications hub for the pirate fleet," Kevin reported.
Irae was tilting her head towards Parsons to give the order to target the base, but Savot's voice beat hers by an instant, "We cannot destroy the base Captain", before Deis had fully whirled around to look confused he continued, "I've detected a mass concentration of lifesigns in an outer section of the station. Unable to confirm due to their close proximity but estimates range between 220 and 375. I believe it to be highly probable that these life signs are those of the Veridian's survivors. If we attack the station they will most likely be killed."
As Deis winced at the large kink in her battle plan, Zimmerman called out from the science station, "Captain we've got another problem...Power readouts from the base are increasing. I think someone's set the asteroid to self destruct!"
Eyes widening in recognition of the crisis, Captain Irae didn't miss a beat as she hit the intercom button, =^= Bridge to Lieutenant Wolf. Ye 'ave 90 seconds to outfit an assault team and prepare for transport to the pirate base. We're puttin' ye as close to the control center as possible, but ye've got to move fast. The base is set to blow and ye must stop the destruct sequence or the survivors of the Veridian will nae be survivors much longer. Get yer team to transporter room 4 and signal when ye be ready, bridge out.=^=
Savot spoke again, "Detecting a shuttle power-up in a hangar bay on the extreme starboard side of the base; most likely the pirate leader attempting to escape the asteroid's destruction."
Irae, reacting quickly to each new set of information as all experienced commanders learn to do, snapped her fingers loudly and gestured to Adam's station, "Helm, take us in wide over th' base's port side. Commander Parsons, be ready t' tractor that shuttle as we come out over the starboard, or destroy it if necessary. The leader must nae be allowed to escape." Eyes narrowing in grim concentration, Deis took a deep, quiet breath as she put her faith in the Prometheus' ability to withstand intense combat. She wanted to avoid separation if necessary, but if it came to that she would do so without hesitation...

"Uh-oh..." muttered Kevin. Nobody heard him, but Savot noticed his frantic motions at his console.
"What is it, Mr. Zimmerman?" he asked.
"Three of the enemy ships have disappeared, sir," said Kevin, rewinding the sensor logs. "I think they decloaked while we were busy..."
"How could you lose track of three ships?" asked Irae, unhappy. "Find them, now!"
"I've got their time of cloak, now... aw, crap. Captain, Commander, I think the shuttle's a decoy. For a moment, two of the enemy fighters mover between us and the base. During that time, our sensors could not detect whether the base's shields were up or not. I believe the pirate leader or council or whatever they've got for a governing body is in one of the missing ships. I'm detecting three trails leading away from this system, any one of which could be housing the leader or leaders," reported Kevin. "But if you give me a moment, I'll be able to see if they messed up..."
"What the blazes are ye talking about, Zimmerman?" asked Irae. "Wolf, get ready t-"
"Yes!" exclaimed Kevin, grinning. Irae was reminded of how young and childish the science officer could be on occasion. "Captain, I've got the key to lowering the base's shields."
"Then by all means, drop them," growled the Captain.
"Done," said Kevin proudly. "I froze the sensor log down to frame by frame and had the computer analyse the frames to discover if we could ever detect the base, and then I found we could. Because I assumed the pirate leader or leaders had rigged the shields to automatically raise after they had left, I picked up a short, automated message we hadn't picked up earlier due to its incredibly short nature."
"Wolf, move in," ordered Irae.
"You did that all just now?" asked Savot, eyebrow raised.
"I've been hanging around this Vulcan guy long enough his logic seems to have worn off..." Kevin leaned back in his chair and stretched. "And once again, I prove better than whoever the bad guys paid to be their science person. I'm absolutely incredible."
"And humble," noted Savot. "Now devise a plan to discover which of the three departed ships carries the leader of the pirates."
"Eh... we may have a problem there. But this ship splits into three parts, right?" A shudder ran through the ship.
"We've still got those other ships to worry about," said the helmsman.
"Two are incapacitated," reported Ethan. "Five to one. The odds may be in our favour."
"Zimmerman, extrapolate on the three ships' courses and where they could be headed," ordered Irae. "And keep yer damn narcissistic opinions to yerself. Mr. Hope, keep track of Wolf and get him back as soon as he's finished. Parsons, do ye have that shuttle? They could be something of value there despite Zimmerman's hypothesis."
OFF: Should we leave Wolf (and Sandage, if he's going with Wolf) on the base to use it as a defense against the pirates? Just an idea.

after talking to sandage hitting his com badge again "Marine alpha team one report to transporter room 4 full combat gear you have 45 second move it" Walking over to the storage locker striping his uniform wolf put on combat gear and started loading up on weapons as his team arrived 15 second ahead of schedule smiling to himself Commander Parsons has them well trained taking there places on the pad waiting for Sandage god I hope this guy doesn't start to hate me.

['guest' of the pirates]
Ton'ta shifted her position for about the 10th time. The fact she was being held captive by these people, pirates annoyed her. The fact she'd been busy caring for her own people since their capture. Those injured by the pirates when the ship was taken made her attitude even worse.
She muttered when two of their hosts entered the room which doubled as her cell and the sickbay for the pirates. She was kept under close watch while she worked on the pirates and her own people. The only reason she was kept alive was because they needed a doctor and she was all they had. The rest of her people were not so lucky.
Their lives were at risk every minute and she knew that with each victory that Starfleet had against them some more of her crewmates would pay. She'd heard rumors of a Federation ship, the U.S.S. El-Salvador B in the vacinity.
It briefly crossed her mind that they might get rescued when the two pirates appeared, yet another injured of their own crew for her to patch back together.
"Take care of him." One of the pirates spoke up, giving her nothing more than a glance.
"Of course." she muttered as she strode from the bed in the corner. They didn't care if she got any rest or not, only that their people were patched up. Her own suffering as she struggled to aid them as well. She was tired and her own injuries from the battle and capture flaring causing her to limp to the edge of the bunk where they had dropped the man.
"You keep bringing them to me in this condition and I can't do much." she said as she leaned against the edge of the bed, allowing her leg some rest. She didn't let on how bad her leg was knowing that it would only make things worse for her.
She grew silent as she worked on the pirate grimacing only slightly as her leg brushed the edge of the bunk. The two guards backing off but lingering nearby, lounging against the wall watching.
[off: I hope this fits in with the mission, if it doesn't feel free to edit it to work]

OFF: (That works just fine Ms. Minn. Everyone, Ton'ta will be joining our crew as Chief Medical Officer. Story explanation is she was one of the Veridian's crew that was captured by the pirates, but you probably figured that out already. Mr. Wolf, after you and possibly Mr. Sandage get the destruct sequence under control, if you'd be so kind as to make your way over to rescue the captives that would work out nicely.)

Wolf: Stood on the transport Padd counting down Sandage hadn't arrived yet and time was running out. He didn't like the idea of hacking a computer himself. He had some skills with locks and forcefields but computers were differnt. If Sandage doesn't get here soon we leave. Turning to his team. " First objective shut down the self destruct secound objective Rescue the prisoners. Weapons set to maximum stun, if that doesn't drop them then you know the drill." Checking his gear and making sure everthing was ready the waited.

Shortly after the Captain's initial orders to Wolf, Savot excused himself from the bridge, and strode quickly down the corridors towards the transporter room. He had stopped at his quarters very briefly along the way to procure his personal phaser and tricorder, and then continued on.
Entering the transporter room, the vulcan saw the Marine boarding team standing on the pads waiting for transport and without pausing he stepped up onto the transport pad positioning himself in the center of the gathered task force. Taking his tricorder out and readying it to scan the blueprints of the asteroid base as soon as they arrived, Savot tapped his combadge, =^= Savot to Sandage. Remain in Engineering to oversee any repair efforts made necessary by the battle; I will accompany the away team. Savot out. =^=
Deactivating his combadge with a second tap, he nodded to Lieutenant Wolf, "We are ready to proceed Lieutenant." Again tapping his chest the vulcan signalled the bridge, =^= Boarding party to bridge, we are proceeding with the transport now. Savot out. =^= Then giving a firm nod to the transporter chief to signal him to start, Savot readied himself as the team dissolved in blue light to reappear inside the pirates' abandoned headquarters...

OFF: EDIT: Sorry about tthe confusion, Mister Savot. I guess that'll teach me to read stuff when I'm half-awake!
ON: Judd was busy in Engineering, supervising a few repairs, as well as their modified shields when the message came through from wolf about the away team mission. A moment later, A seond message came through from the bridge, informing him that Mister Savot was going in Judd's place.
Judd couldn't have been happier about that; he'd already had one perilous away mission under his belt on this mission. Add to that an attempted boarding by the local equivalent of Blackbeard's Seadogs, and he'd had more than enough for a little while, thanks. Besides, there was far too much to get done here in Engineering, betwee, some minor battle damage, finishing up the damage done by the boarding pirates, and keeping the ship's tactical systems in tip-top condition.
OFF: I know the feeling Lieutenant. Not to worry. Sorry about the red coloring. It was meant to be highly visible not carry a reprimand-esque connotation like a teacher grading papers.
