“Cmdr Matthew sat back in his station chair as he completed the latest Sensor sweep of the area and surrounding planets Currently at 00130 hours the Specter was in Geosynchronus orbit of the planet Cmdr Galwyn had just transported Down to the planet and the marine insertion team lead by Col. Wong are now Down on the planet as well Caring out some recon no problem where reported so far everything was going just find “
“ James felt a little strange being on the bridge when he should be down on the planet. James was sure that Lt’ Chase was being driven slowly mad by him always looking over his shoulder all the time.
"Lt’ Chase Feeling anxious Sir?"
"Sorry Lt, I keep feeling like I should be down there."
"I imagine it's harder for the Commodore as well ."
“ Matthew glanced up from the armrest displays that read out the vital signs of the Away Team members and other important information that was coming in from the Shuttle as well .

Desperate, Ghes tried resorted to trying to wish the communications back to life, so that he might hail the orbital station approaching his shuttle, or maybe even to hail the Victory herself, anything to prevent what was to come. Gheskori attempted to convince himself that this was not necessarily a perilous situation, but how could it be anything but? The energy dampener, that Ghes had since ascertained was originating from the surface, had rendered the shuttle useless.
The station crept closer and closer, until it started to pass under the Specter. At this point it came to a halt. The Specter's sensors were still working, Ghes had realised. He tried scanning the station. What..? Nothing? he thought, the sensors were not detecting anything; double checking that they did actually work, Ghes tried again and again came up with nothing. The next thing he did was theorise that the station might have been deploying a screen against any standard scans. However, the Denobulan did not get a chance to change the sensors' refinement because at that instant, the station discharged a beam of energy towards the shuttle.
The blue beam, an aura the colour of Earth's sky leaking from it, struck the shuttle on its rear ventral surface. The whole shuttle shook, suddenly sick with the explosion on its underside. Ghes was pivoted forward out of his seat on to the control panel as the front of the Specter dipped relative to the station that had fired upon it. The shuttle continued to shake, reverberating and making Gheskori's stomach hurt. After falling to the floor, the Victory's CNO managed to climb back into his seat. The station had not fired again, whatever damage it had intended to cause had been caused, either that or their weapons had malfunctioned.
Ghes would have taken the latter as a possibility not long ago, when he still thought that this society was unadvanced. They were supposed to be, but the Tholians, and it was surely the Tholians, had changed that. Now Ghes's objective was to find out just how much they had been influenced, assuming that he could recover the shuttle.
He could not. For reasons that Ghes could not figure out, the attack by the orbital station had caused the shuttle's orbit to begin to degrade and by the end of the next two minutes, he had deorbited.
The Specter plunged downwards to Jolmar Prime, its descent unrecoverable, its condition unrepairable. "Blast!" Ghes cried out with frustration as he sat at the disfunctioning controls, beads of perspiration dripping down his usually perfect face. The dampening field was still in affect, Ghes had no way to rectify the shuttle's descent. Then it hit him. Why had it not occurred to him before? It was something he had devoted a lot to over the past few days, right up to fifteen minutes ago. The reason for the shuttle deorbiting was related to the planet's properties, and Ghes was hazarding a strong guess that the attack by the Paderau's station was the catalyst.
The ground was coming up awfully too quickly, Ghes had passed through the final layer of cloud and now a city was spread before him. Modest skyscrapers, intermingled with lower structures tinged a neutral brown, or in some cases buff grey, filled the CNO's vision. The thing that attracted most of his panicked eyes' attention though was the large dome structure off in the distance. It was at least twice as tall as any of the other buildings, and it did not fit in.
The last he saw of the dome disappeared behind a row of semi-high buildings, because now the Specter had passed below them. A fraction of a second later, the shuttle impacted with the ground in a residential area, at a speed of roughly one hundred metres per second. A large fireball followed by plumes of smoke and dust billowed away from the area of the impact, enveloping the locals in a thick, choking pall.

Tiana reached what seemed to be a main thoroughfare and looked around. It was apparently late afternoon/early evening local time and the street was relatively busy. No one paid any heed to Tiana as she walked sedately on heading for a more open area where she could get a better scan of the area.
"Commander Tiana, this is Gheskori as soon as Tiana heard the CNO's voice coming from her concealed communicator she ducked into another sidestreet. Fortunately for her this street was even more quiet than the main road. She did not like the tone in the Denobulan's voice.
I think I am reading a build up of energy within a two kilometre radius of your location, I believe it is Tholian in origin. Hold on.." Ghes studied his console again and tapped a few controls, "I want to see if I can get a better reading of what it actually is.. wait a second, Tiana I will contact you again..."
Tiana pulled out her scanner and, holding it concealed in her hand slowly turned a full circle. Unsurprisingly he was quite correct, there was a strange energy reading. Tiana headed towards it. No doubt Gheskori would get back to her with more information before she reached it. As she cleared the end of one street Tiana sawa dark dome ahead of her, it towered over the other buildings and although she was far from an expert, the style of the building did not seem to fit in with those surrounding it. It also seemed to be where the unusual energy reading was coming from.
Tiana looked up suddenly her eyes focusing on a bright spot in the sky, at first she thought it was just a metor, dust/rock burning up in the atmosphere, but it continued to get bigger and brighter. Tiana's gut twisted, she hadn't yet heard from Gheskori and if she was any judge that object tearing through the sky was just about the right size to be Spectre. She turned to head towards where it seemed the 'metorite' would impact.
It disappeared behind some tower-blocks and the the ground shook slightly. It was obviously down. Tiana headed towards the impact site as fast as she could without breaking into a run. She was terrified of what she would find. She desperately hoped Geskori was all right, they'd have to destroy Spectre, couldn't let it fall into the hands of Jolamaran people, or anyone else who was here and shouldn't be.
She turned the corner dreading what she was going to see.

The marine detatchment had been advancing for almost an hour, moving slowly from cover to cover, and trying to maintain their course along a naturally occuring thoron radiation patch which stretched for almost the entire length of their journey. The radiation was masking their presence against the sensors of whatever might lay ahead. The team moved slowly and deliberately, with a well trained ease and grace which made Tiberian proud. He led from the central point position, with only his two scouts ahead of him. They were making relatively good time, and would soon be in a good visual range of their objective, with a ridge as a vantage point from which they could make their assessment. A scout, less than forty metres ahead suddenly raised a fist, and then lowered his hand down by his side, gesturing to all following him to crouch. Most did, some went prone, and all weapons turned outwards, creating a defensive ring.
"Nikimoto, report" Tiberian hissed into his EV suits communicator.
"Round the corner boss" the marine hissed back, flagging his arm to his left. Tiberian crept forwards to join him, and leaned just enough of his head around the crenulated rockface to see what his attention had been drawn to. There was a patrol, three Tholians, all carrying some form of plasma rifle, spread out in front of them, communicating in their own chirruping language. None of them were wearing the standard heat insulation suits that most of the men had customarily seen them wear, as the temperature of the planet was satisfactory to meet their needs. Tiberian swore quitely into his commline.
"All units, hang fire and find cover. No response to their presence, just keep your head down until they pass by"
Waiting until the scouts passed by took nearly thirty minutes. The group wasn't exactly thorough in their duties, as none of the marines were uncovered, but still they were slow and pedantic, and slowed the expedition significantly. When they were finally out of sight, Tiberian sent the comm message that got the group moving again. The advanced for another ten minutes before they finally made it to the ridge. On their bellies they pressed forwards, dragging themselves up to the precipice of a thirty foot drop. Tiberian pulled his magnoculars from his EV pouch and focused them at the building in the distance. What he saw chilled him to the bone.
"Colonel" Private Wild was next to him, staring into the distance with him "That's not a habdome is it?"
"No son" Martinez growled besides him "That's..."
"A bloody battleship" Tiberian finished the Sergeant Major's statement, his eyes still transfixed into the distance. There in front of him was a Tholian battlecruiser, almost the equivalent size of the Victory, and with armaments to back it up. Alongside it were more than a dozen vessels of the web spinner class, and some other craft that Tiberian didn't recognise. His uncertainty was soon put to bed though, as he saw hundreds of armed Tholians march off one of the craft and out into the red desert of the planet surface. They were troop carrier ships.
"But the sensors said it was a habdome" a PFC behind them hissed.
"It probably is, underneath" Tiberian replied "Sensor resoultion is sketchy at best, so it wouldn't have been able to identifythe difference between an underground facility and a ton of starships sat on top of it"
"What do we do now sir?" Wild asked "If we try and fly out and they see us, they've got enough firpower there to obliterate the Victory, nevermind a shuttle. And we can't call off world for the same reason"
"Actually I think that problem's just been solved for us" Martinez's voice came suddenly over the intercom. All the marines looked to their left where the Sergeant Major was situated. On the top of the ridge the three Tholians who had almost come across them earlier were stood, staring at the dozen prone marines who stared back. For a moment that felt like an age, nothing happened and it felt as if the world was stood at a surreal halt. Suddenly one of them raised it's weapon.
"Contact" Wild screamed, levelling his rifle and firing a burst. One of the Tholian's had is exoskeletal shell exploded. The other two were followed suit, one by Tiberian and one by Martinez. A loud burst of chattering and alarms then rang up in the ravine below. This time everyone swore.
"Five man fire team on me" Tiberian called out, volunteers moving up. Everyone else fall back, get on the horn to the shuttle and tell them to come and meet us here, but start running towards them, we have a hot EZ"
Leading the men he had called for to the front of the precipice, he went prone alongside them and levelled his rifle.
"Nice clean shots lads" He called "Make your packs count, keep the firing tight and your heads down"
The small marine group opened up, felling a dozen or so of the advancing, scuttling Tholians as they attempted to close the distance with the group. A comm signal from Martinez told him that the shuttle was only fifty metres behind them.
"Alright lads, rapid withdrawl, lets go" He made sure each man was off the ridge before he fired a few stray shots into the massing crowd of Tholians below and set off at a sprint for the shuttle door. Everyone else was on now, and he sped up, throwing his pack and rifle ahead of him as he hurled himself into the shuttle, the hatch closing behind him just in time to receive the barrage of plasma fire that was unleashed behind him.
"Get us back to the Vic now!" He ordered, causing the shuttle to take a lurching incline away from the planet. As soon as he had steadied himself, Tiberian moved up to the front. "The second we hit the ionosphere, open a channel to the Victory"
It took a minute, but the channel was soon opened. Their sensors were yet to show signs of ant-aircraft fire or pursuit.

<TAG Commodore Cir'Kem/Commander Matthew>
"Sir" Martinez approached from the rear of the shuttle "We have another problem"
"Bigger than the small invasion we're currently facing?" Tiberian asked with a tone of disconcerted sarcasm.
"I've just done a quick run through the scans sir. Those vessels were Tholian sir, of that I have no doubt. But we never did get a clear look at those troops did we"
"Close enough"
"But I ran those scans we took through the database. They are silicon based, but they're not Tholian"
"So what are they?" Tiberian asked as the shuttle began it's final approach.
"I don't know" Martinez replied "It says level 10 classified"

Ghes awoke amidst the wreckage of the Specter. The remnant of the shuttle had buried itself in the ground and the base of a building, what remained of the highly resistant cabin-area intersected the ground and the building itself. With Gheskori still inside, it put him in the most precarious situation.
Immediately, Ghes started piecing together what must have happened to him. He imagined that he had hit his head when he had got up just before impact, hence the reason he'd found himself unconscious. There was a fire burning, not far from Gheskori. The Denobulan could feel the heat from it, for some reason, it felt like his face was melting. Then he remembered his cosmetic surgery, the procedure which had made him look like one of the Paderau. Uh-oh..
Finding the strength, Ghes dragged himself up and made his way out of the mess that was once the Specter. It took him a while to get his bearings, to figure out which way he had to crawl/drag himself to get out, for the shuttle was so twisted and broken apart that it was difficult to ascertain where exactly he was. Dodging the final protruding bits of wreckage, and the insane heat from the fire that was still consuming the matter of the craft, Ghes finally extracted himself from the rubble. To his utter amazement, he found that he was almost entirely unscathed. Thanking the integrity of the shuttle and perhaps a little bit of fate, he walked away unhindered from the downed wreck, still burning with the fire that induced the occasional sound of a crackle.
Now to test if the cosmetics are still acceptable.. Ghes thought with trepidation. But from looking around the immediate vicinity, Ghes realised he would not get a chance to just yet. There were no active members of the populace anywhere close to the Victory's CNO. What he could see through the volumes of dust and smoke that still inhabited the air were humanoid forms, all prone on the ground, some still, some moving a little, some seemingly choking on the gaseous fumes and particles of dust.
Ghes was at a loss with what to do now. Did he go up to these people and help them, perhaps give whatever medical aid he was able to? Or did he do his best to ignore them? This was a first contact situation after all, and testing his cosmetic face on the people it was designed to fool was not what Ghes had in mind. Seeing that he was still unnoticed, Ghes felt his face. The cosmetic features seemed ok, perhaps a little singed. Perhaps he would be able to pass for a Paderau, a horribly burned one yes, but a Paderau all the same.
Thankfully though, Gheskori did not have to debate such issues with himself any longer, because now he could just make out the form of Commander Galwyn through the haze of smoke and dust. "Tiana, is that you?" he called, careful not to use her rank around the locals, regardless of how inabilitated they may well have been.
Ghes stepped forward, and once he was close enough he saw that it was indeed the Victory's Chief Science officer. "Ah, it is you-" Ghes stopped and coughed. His throat was in not as good condition as he had thought. Tiana looked over him, seemingly surprised that he had made it out alive. Ghes smiled broadly in spite of their beleaguered situation. "That's right, Tiana, it seems that I am indestructible. Now, what do you suggest to be our next move? May I suggest that we make our way towards that large dome structure yonder?"
Tiana glanced at the shuttle. Ghes understood. "I don't think we can do anything about it, we do not have enough firepower to destroy its remains."

The shuttle hadn't even set down properly before Tiberian threw himself out of the entrance hatch and bolted for the shuttlebay door, attempting to wrench the hel,et off his EV suit as he ran. He was eventually successful and simply discarded it on the floor as he progressed, the added bulk of his EV suit causing him to inadvertently barge several crewmembers out of the way as he sought a turbolift. Within a little over a minute of the shuttle having rejoined the ship he was already on the bridge, striding down to join the Commodore and Commander Matthew in the centre circle.
"Shield and weapon status" he barked tersely at the tactical officer on duty, sending the mans fingers sprawling over his console in search of the required data.
"Shields at 100%, all phaser banks fully charged, and a full phton torpedo complement standing by at maximum efficiency"
"Ops, give me a sensor readout of the planetary surface" Tiberian now turned his attention on one of the crewmen in front of him.
"Unable to give a clear picture due to the interference Colonel" she replied hastily, still searching her screen. "But it looks as though there has been an increase in power output. No movement yet detected"
"Thank God for small mercies" Tiberian muttered darkly under his breath, before turning to the Commodore. "Ma'am, I think we have a situation. When Sergeant Major Martinez scanned the creatures on the surface, he found out that whislt they are similar to, they are not in fact Tholian. But, whatever it is is behind a level 10 firewall"
"And the technology?" The Commodore replied.
"Definitely Tholian, but I can't work out how another species would have access to it"
"I'll find out. I concur with your assessment gentlemen, the Victory cannot fight these odds. We will recover the Spectre and withdraw. Colonel, I want the sensor data and a secure link with Starfleet Command in my ready room. Then proceed with the withdrawl, you have the bridge"
As the Commodore departed, Tiberian turned back to Ops.
"Crewman, get Sergeant Major Martinez to transfer all the sensor data from the insertion to the Captain's ready room, and then get a secure priority one line with Starfleet Command. Commander Matthew, a word"
Tiberian pulled Matthew to one side of the room, and spoke in a hushed voice.
"I want you to keep the sensors trained on Jolmar IV and let me know the second you see anything that could be construed as movement. Also, try and establish sensor or comms contact with the Spectre, forget about radio silence, that's the least of our worries. Let me know when you have anything"
<TAG Commander Matthew>
Tiberian moved over and took his place in the centre seat, trying to conceal how the bulk of his EV suit made it difficult for him to fit into it. As the Victory left orbit and headed to the Paderau homeworld, Tiberian's eyes remained fixed on not what lay ahead, but the sensor data from behind them, which would indicate whether or not they had aroused the wrath of the fleet. Nothing was seen yet, but his gut told Tiberian the whole thing reeked of the fetid smell of inevitability. He was pulled from his reverie by his name being called by the tactical officer.
"Colonel Wong, no sign of the Spectre on any of our scans, but I am picking up debris consistent with a Starfleet shuttlecraft"
Tiberian's heart plummeted well below his stomach. Tiana, Gheskori, two damn fine officers, assets to the ship and his friends. Dead. He simply could not accept that. They would have found some way out. They had to have done.
"Is the debris of significant enough quantity to indicate the shuttle's destruction?"
"No sir, but it's bad. I'm reading hull palting, EPS conduits, and what might have been part of their drive assembly. That means that they went down"
"Then so are we. All hands this is the XO, go to Blue alert"
"We're landing" a crewman at the back of the bridge exclaimed in shock.
"No but I want us prepped for atmospheric flight" Tiberian countered as the bridge lighting changed from red to blue. "Keep shields up and weapons charged, and take us in at full thrusters. Hail Gheskori and Tiana on all subspace bands, and scan for the remnants of that shuttle"
"Why don't we do this from orbit?" The helmsman enquired as the Victory lined herself up to enter the atmosphere.
"Because if these stations all have Tholian weapons, then we don't stand a chance in a dogfight. Take us in"
The Victory curved and dodged between the particle beams off two stations which had jsut come into firing range, and nose dived into the atmosphere. Finally penetrating the stratosphere and emerging over vast sprawling high rise cities. Almost instantly they came under fire from the surface. All aboard ship jolted as the pulses made contact with the ships underbelly.
"Those are particle weapons sir" the tactical officer informed him. "High yield nadion and tachyon bursts. They're destabilising our shield grid and causing minor damage to the outer hull"
"Rotate shield harmonics and transfer auxiliary power to dorsal shielding. Do we have comms contact"
"Yes sir, establishing a rough comm line now"
"Colonel Wong to Commander Galywn and Lieutenant Gheskori. Confirm that you are alright, an provide co-ordinates for retrieval"
<TAG Tiana and Gheskori>
The response was tentative at best, the high level or radiation building up around the ship interfering with the communications. Tiberian repeated his message again, but still the response was garbled. The he received his warning from Commander Matthew, the Tholian-esque fleet was moving.
<TAG Commander Matthew>
"Be advised Commander, we cannot exfiltrate. There is an enemy fleet approaching, and we are already taking damage. Go to ground, and we will come back from you. We have got to withdraw"
Suddenly the line went dead, and the Victory pulled sharply upwards, punching trough the atmosphere amidst the fire of the planetary batteries. She shot through space and out into the edge of the system.
"I think we may have a problem sir, I'm worried that our transmission was traced"
"Well considering that they were shooting at us, I think that they already found us" Tiberian answered his tactical officer with a hint of sarcasm is his voice.
"No sir, not traced it to us, but to Commander Galwyn. I saw a piggy back transmission just before our signal got cut. If they found them..."
"Oh God. The second we hit the system edge, take us to maximum warp, and lay in a course for the nearest starbase. Commander Matthew, you have the bridge, I'll be with the Commodore"

The shuttle was down and it was burning. She wanted to run from the flames but her sense of duty kept her moving forwards instead. AS the hull burned the flames changed colour with each material ignited. Tiana's scientific rationale, operating in part of her mind that wasn't terrified, was identifying each material by it's distinctive colour. There was smoke and dust surrounding the crash site, Tiana couldn't see for than a metre or so in front of her.
"Tiana, is that you?" a voice called from the smoke. Tiana new it was Gheskori although she could not see him. It was such a relief to hear him. He sounded all right as well.
"It's me," Tiana replied just as Ghes stepped out of the smoke. He seemed a little singed but remarkably undamaged considering he had just walked away from the shuttle.
"Ah, it is you-" Ghes stopped and coughed. He see,ed to notice her inspection of him."That's right, Tiana, it seems that I am indestructible. Now, what do you suggest to be our next move? May I suggest that we make our way towards that large dome structure yonder?"
Tiana glanced at the shuttle. Ghes understood. "I don't think we can do anything about it, we do not have enough firepower to destroy its remains."
She knew he was right, still she had to do something, couldn't simply leave the technology to fall into the hands of a pre-warp society. She could tell that was nothing much that could be gained form the engines. There would be interest in the materials but little beyond that. She marvelled yet again at the navigator's survival, the shuttle was a wreck.
"One moment," she said. Forcing herself to ignore the flames she reached the shuttle and ducked into the hatch. The computer was flickering, she tapped a couple of buttons. It was still working. With some swift key strokes Tiana wiped the shuttle's data banks and then just to be certain over wrote them with a string of random numbers. She left the shuttle as quickly as she could, again doing her best to ignore the still burning flames. She could feel the tremor of fear running down her spine but so far she was staying on top of the urge to run. Surviving was far more important.
"Done." Tiana said looking as Gheskori. She kept her voice low and gave a half smile. "I think you're right that building does need investigating. "Here lean on me and try to look at bit hurt"
The crowd parted for them, there were quite a number of walking wounded, Tiana felt guilty for that but she could see no serious injures. The Jolmarans let the young woman and her injured companion through with little more than a few murmurs of sympathy for his injuries. Tiana and Ghes continued to walk slowly down the street until they spotted another alleyway they could duck into to regroup.
Tiana leaned forward resting her hands on her knees she was coming over all shaky for some reason... She heard a voice coming out of nowhere and it took her a moment to register that it was her concealed communicator still working.
"Colonel Wong to Commander Galywn and Lieutenant Gheskori. Confirm that you are all right, and provide co-ordinates for retrieval"
"Colonel, this is Commander Galwyn. We're both fine. As for co ordinates." She paused long enough to dig her scanner out. She slowly turned 360 degrees and then rattled off the co ordinates. There was a lot of hiss and static on the comm line, she wasn't sure her message had got through. Then the comm line crackled to life once more
"Be advised Commander, we cannot exfiltrate. There is an enemy fleet approaching, and we are already taking damage. Go to ground, and we will come back from you. We have got to withdraw"
Tiana cursed but acknowledged the order. She desperately hoped the Vic survived. She didn't know much about going 'to ground' but thought this location was safe enough for the moment. Just to be of the safe side she tapped her scanner to signal the approach of any lifesigns.
"What happened?" She asked Gheskori, suddenly remembering that she had no idea how the Spectre had come to crash although she doubted it was pilot error. She needed to know exactly what the situation was and whether it was likely anyone who shouldn't know knew they were here.
Tag: Ghes
As they talked and moved on to make plans as they would have a while to wait. The the scanner beeped. There was a cluster of lifesigns approaching their location purposefully.
"Ghes," Tiana said her voice sounded too calm to her ears but that was better than panic. "We need to get out of here now and find a hiding place. I can likely rig up something to shield us from their scanners but we'll need to be away from their eyes as well."

Gheskori pretend-hobbled along, 'helped' by Commander Tiana, into a side alley and away from any prying eyes. Ghes had never done this before, feigning injury on an undercover mission. It would be something to keep his two wives amused perhaps, if he made it out to tell them the tale.
As soon as the duo saw that they were out of sight of the street, they relaxed. Tiana let go of Ghes, the Navigator walked tiredly a bit further down the alleyway and stopped to sit down, with his back to the wall, just to catch a breather and to think things through. It wasn't long before the disembodied voice of Colonel Wong filled the alleyway. Ghes was blinking in confusion all the way through the communication. The strained voice of the Colonel was telling Tiana things that the CNO had about a dozen questions for. But before he could add his own input to the fuzzy comm line, Wong cut the transmission.
After Tiana cursed and closed the channel, there was a minute's silence. The two of them did not have much they could do for now, not with the Victory withdrawing for who knew how long. "An enemy fleet?" Ghes finally asked, "What do you think he means by that?"
Tiana didn't answer, simply shook her head. It was as good as a rhetorical question of course. "What happened?" she said instead.
"With the Spectre?" Ghes asked. Tiana nodded. "One of the orbital stations shot at me, I deorbited. I detected a Tholian power spike coming from the planet's surface. All my systems were being damped into inoperability, there's something about this planet I think.. maybe it's to do with the Tholian influence. Whatever it is, it's related to that large dome structure.." Gheskori pointed in the direction he thought the dome was. Although neither of them could see it, its presence seemed to loom over them like some harbinger.
They talked about what their next moves were. Whether they would act on them before they next heard from the Victory depended totally on how long that would take. "We need to get that dome soon," Ghes was saying, "No matter how dangerous it may or may not be."
Many questions came to Ghes's mind, ones that he felt he needed to ask, like: Who is in charge here? Who was manning the controls of the weapons that put Ghes's shuttle down? A Tholian? But Tiana would not know their answers many more than he did. There was a beep on the scanner. Tiana spoke slowly after checking it.
"Ghes, we need to get out of here now and find a hiding place. I can likely rig up something to shield us from their scanners but we'll need to be away from their eyes as well."
Ghes nodded and raised himself from the floor. They were coming from the direction of the street, Tiana told him. Ghes led the way further down the alley, after passing under several low arches connecting the three-storey buildings around them, they came out on an even smaller alley perpendicular to the one they were just in. Realising that it was a back alley running through the spine of the block, the two knew that this would not provide good cover for long. Ghes nodded at Tiana indicating that they should keep moving. The scanner told them that the half-dozen lifesigns that were chasing them, were half way down the alley they'd come from. The duo turned left, they made their way at a run down the narrower alley; interestingly enough, Gheskori thought, the dome structure was now visible in the distance ahead of them. Before long, the two found what looked to be an open supply depot, off to the left and over a low wall.
It was all they had, if they kept going there was no guarantee that they would find a different hiding spot, and the alley was long enough that the chasing group would gain visual sight of them. Ghes jumped over the low wall and entered the depot which was in the form of a shed. Although he had not realised it, the depot had an accessible upper-level which was also open to the back-alley. They had an excellent view over the alley, and before long the chasing group came down and passed right by. Ghes sighed in relief, they were safe for now, and one of his questions had been answered. Their pursuers were definitely Paderau, it was hopefully an indication that there weren't any Tholians just roaming the streets, exposed to the people.
Ghes remained hunched on the upper level of the depot for some time. Tiana, sitting near to him, kept the scanner close-by, despite being in a Paderau building there were no warnings from the scanner of Paderau in close proximity. Perhaps the depot was derelict, Ghes thought. Still they waited, and still there was nothing from the Victory. Had they been chased from the system? Destroyed, even? If the answer to either of those questions was Yes, then the CNO and CScO couldn't very well stay here forever. They had to get moving, find out what was going on and perhaps do something about it, in spite of the First officer's orders to stay to ground.
"I think we've lost them, Tiana," Ghes said, looking to the alley below. Ghes just hoped that they had found them because of the Victory's communication, rather than through some other advanced technique. "I think we should get moving, we still fit in ok don't we?" He looked at her, waiting for a reply.

Tiberian walked off the bridge and into the Commodore's ready room, chiming himself in as he entered. The Commodore had just finished signing herself off from Starfleet Command, and the screen on her desk began to lower itself to its inactive position as she gestured to him to take a seat. He sat down, knowing that if he needed to be seated then it was likely to be bad; bad news needed a lengthy explanation, whilst good news could be simply handed out and dismissed with. He accepted an offered glass of water, and then settled back to listen to the Commodore's report on the situation.
"Well you were right" she began, always a reassuring sign "Those beings you encountered down there weren't Tholian. And you were even more right about them being known to Starfleet. What I'm about to tell you is highly classified, and must not leave this room. Understood?"
"I regret Commodore" Tiberian began before the last word had even fully left her lips "That I can't really agree with that right now. Restrict the information to the senior staff if you will, but I think that the large fleet and two missing officers does kind of let the cat out of the bag on its own"
The Commodore nodded pensively for a moment, her fingers drumming quietly on the desk as she thought her XO's statement through. Eventually she gae a firmer nod, and raised her gaze to meet his.
"I can see the logic in that situation, and I can agree. Though this is classified level 10 nonetheless. The species you encountered is known as the Kasar, a bigger, stronger and more powerful silicon based lifeform that view the Tholians as inferior life. According to Starfleet records, when one of these creatures was last seen by Admiral Lin, it killed twenty Tholians out of hand before it was destroyed. Their society is based around worshipping the Crystalline Entity encoutnered and destroyed by the Enterprise almost thirty years ago. They began attacking Tholian hatcheries some time ago, which led to their reolcation, which has led to the Colonial War. Unfortunately, they may also have an axe to grind with the Federation. Not only are we the Tholian's "allies" as it were, but they know that we may have encountered the Crystalline Entity and destroyed it"
"So we're stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea" Tiberian muttered darkly. "What are Command's orders?"
"To stop them. We either open negotiations, stall them, or fight them back. A fleet is beings assembled around Assailant, and will be despatched within the next 12 to 24 hours, dependent on other factors. Our orders are to hold until then. I fear however that that forces our concerns for Commander Galwyn and Lieutenant Gheskori to become somewhat less important"
"Understood. Though if we can kill two birds with one stone..."
"Then go and get stoned by all means"
"Thank you ma'am" Tiberian stood and saluted before turning to leave. He was halfway to the door when a thought struck him, and he turned bak to face the Captain.
"Ma'am, does Command have any idea why these Kasar are flying Tholian ships if they think themselves to be so much better?"
"They can't come up with a reason. That's part of our mission too. Intelligence. Because in that repsect we are on the back foot right now"
Tiberian nodded and set foot back on the bridge, taking his seat from Commander Matthew as he watched the flashing streams of starlight as they flew by.
"Helm, course change. Bring us about 180 degrees and take us back to the Jolmar system"
"Sir?" The helm officer turned to look at him as if mad. He was being ordered back into the belly of the beast.
"You heard me Lieutenant, hard about and make for Jolmar. Understood"
"Sir" The Lieutenant turned back to his console, undoubtedly not understanding, but choosing to obey Tiberian anyway. It wasn;t much of a question who the crew feared the wrat of more, a Tholian battlefleet or the XO. Tiberian won every time.
"Full system check" He ordered. "Commander Matthew get down to engineering if you would and make sure everyone is doing what they're supposed to. I have a feeling that this may get nasty, and they'll probably be needing you"
<TAG Commander Matthew>
"We are now re-entering the Jolmar system sir" the tactical officer reported to him. "All weapons and shields show full readiness"
"Location of the enemy fleet?" He asked.
"A little under 100 000 kilometres away from Jolmar Prime. They appear to be holding station. I read shields but no weapons"
"Advance to within two hundred thousand and then all stop. Tactical, get me a random targetting pattern, and keep weapons armed, but don't lock them on until I give the order. Open a channel"

OOC: Kasar Commander perspective at request of Colonel Wong (sorry it's taken me so long, been settling back into Uni the past few days)
IC:
The Kasar battlefleet lurched forward menacingly towards the Federation vessel, portrayed dramatically against the black of the void, and the small sphere of Jolmar Prime. Most of the inhabitants were unaware that this confrontation was occurring; most of them were unaware that such ships existed. The uncovering of the fleet by the grey Starfleet vessel had been a mistake, they would be paying the debt for disturbing the beehive they had stumbled upon.
Lord Va Kar'thul of the Kasar flagship would make sure of that, the USS Victory was just one more unfortunate vessel. Kar'thul's flagship was Tholian, of course. The inferior race's vessels had in fact been satisfactory so far, their had been near to no problems for the Kasar with settling into the ship.
The only trouble they had encountered thus far was the slight lack of space. The corridors and throughfares were just a little too confining, the seat pedestals were just too tight to be comfortable, the ship's controls were marginally on the small side. It sufficed, but for a race that pursued perfection, they could not very well set about it when there was a fundamental problem - literally - at their fingertips.
"They are hailing," clicked one of the controllers.
From his seating pedestal, Va Kar'thul pivoted around to the controller. He was simultaneously amused and angered at this attempt of communication. "Open a channel," he ordered simply, with a Kasar's equivalent of a shrug. The USS Victory continued came to all stop an appreciable distance from the fleet, perhaps getting ready to run, thought Kar'thul. He requested for the ship to brought up on the viewscreen. It was no more than a grey speck on the screen, he ordered for magnification and then recognised the design. He had researched all the ships of the quadrant's major powers extensively, this vessel was of an older design than most. It would do little to the Lord's fleet should it engage, Kar'thul knew this for a fact.
"Federation ship, you are vastly outnumbered, quantitively and qualitively. This system is part of Kasar territory. I, Lord Va Kar'thul, demand your immediate withdrawal. Failure to comply will result in your annihilation." Kar'thul knew they would not follow his demands so readily, thus he had no problems telling the Starfleet Commander lies. The Kasan'thar had every intention of destroying the opposing vessel.

OOC: Tiana is NOT having a complete nervous breakdown, this is just a temporary wobble (which I think she's more than entitled to under the circumstances)
Tiana was relieved that the navigator seemed to have an innate sense of direction. One of her pilot friends had said that he had a compass in his head, she had said in response that 'she had wondered what he kept in there'. She wasn't at all surprised that her mind was wandering in rather random directions.
The two Victory officers hunched in the upper level of the storage depot. It seemed that they had managed to evade their pursuers for the moment. Tiana shook as her emotions caught up with her. She didn't think she had ever felt this alone. Sure, Ghes was right next to her but if the Victory had been destroyed then no one would know that they were here at all... She didn't dare voice this fear. She had lost so much recently it would be too much to have lost her home as well. She swallowed and scrubbed at her eyes hoping to blame any tears on lingering smuts from the fire. Fire, that brought back another wave of suppressed fear and then another deeper more painful pang of loss as she remember that she had been working through her fear of fire with Russ. SHe shivered.
Her eyes were fixed on the scanner screen even as fears and worries chased their way through her. She did not want to be in charge here, she did not want to have lost her face (however temporarily, she did not want to be abandoned on a hostile planet. Yet she had no choice, these things had happened. It was a matter of duty and dedication that had brought her to this point and now those same things had to be what kept her going.
"I think we've lost them, Tiana," Ghes said, looking to the alley below. Tiana didn't know if he had seen her tears or now, not wasn't the moment to lie and pretend that everything was all right she was sure that both of them knew how dire their situation was; even though neither of them were seemingly willing to mention it. That would be too close to giving up.
"Yeah they are out of scanner range now." Tiana said slowly. She voice was shaky.
"I think we should get moving, we still fit in ok don't we?" He looked at her, waiting for a reply.
"Could you give me a moment." Tiana asked as she drew in a series of long deliberate slow breaths and tried to calm herself down. She knew that she would need every milligram of ingenuity that she possessed to get out of this situation.
Tag: Ghes
Tiana looked up at Gheskori once again. "Your face is a bit smuged with soot but nothing that should raise comment." Tiana was relieved that her voice once again sounded normal. She cocked her head to one side. "You may have lost a few tufts of hair as well but, again, it's not going to cause comment. Am I all right still?" She asked.
Tag: Ghes
Tiana looked in the bag of bits she had brought a long to hid her scanner in, with luck she could throw together something to improve their odds.

"Federation ship, you are vastly outnumbered, quantitively and qualitively. This system is part of Kasar territory. I, Lord Va Kar'thul, demand your immediate withdrawal. Failure to comply will result in your annihilation."
"Well at least he doesn't beat about the bush" Tiberian muttered to himself as the booming translated voice came over the bridge speakers. He knew that the enemy commander was right though, they were outmatched in every respect. The Victory was a good sturdy, dependable ship, but she was still a Nebula class, over thirty years old, and not recently upgraded. She would put up a fight, that much wasn't in doubt, what was in doubt was whether or not she would win it.
"Attention Lord Va Kar'thul, this is Lieutenant Colonel Tiberian Wong, XO of the USS Victory. You are in violation of the territiories of an indigenous race, and are in direct contravention to interstellar law. You will withdraw or suffer the consequences"
<TAG Lord Kar'thul>
"I warn you sir, the United Federation of Planets does not respond to threats, and we do not abandon innocent species to the wolves. We may not be as numerous as you here, but as we speak a much larger Federation fleet is being assembled to come to our assistance. And this ship is equipped with enough ordnance to make you regret your invasion until they arrive. My advice would be to think this through, and then open negotiations. You have five minutes to consider this proposal. Victory out"
He gestured to the tactical officer to cut the comm line, and the link went dead. All the officers on the bridge looked at him as if he were mad. He probably was. He had just handed out an ultimatum from a considerably weaker position and was not entirely sure if he had the capability to back it up. The Victory did have a significant proportion of it's mass taken up by torpedo casings, at little under three hundred truth be told, but if they went into combat it was highly unlikely that they'd have time to fire them all off.
"Well that was clever" Martinez came down from the tactical station where he had been waiting and sat in the advisors chair. He fixed Tiberian with a hard stare. "Can we really pull this off?"
"I honestly have no idea" He confided quietly to his friend. "Command wants us to hold them off, but if they don't agree to negotiate we'll probably put up a token resistance and run for the hills. We can out run the larger ships, and the web spinners aren't any match for us by themselves and at warp"
"Gheskori and Tiana?" Martinez asked tentatively.
"Safe, for the moment. I hope" Tiberian grimaced. "So long as the Paderau didn't trace them from our comm signal, and so long as no one sees through the surgery they could hide out for a decent length of time down there"
"And we can always pick them up when we come back with the fleet" The Sergeant Major patted him on the arm, trying to rationalise the situation. He paused. "You want to go back for them don't you" It wasn't a question.
"I know we can't run past the fleet, and I know we can't sustain their ground batteries. I just hate having to sit here"
"Welcome to Command again" Martinez smiled.
"They're hailing us sir" the tactical officer reported.
"Let 'em stew" Tiberian thought that if he was going to be taking risks, he may as well take big ones. =/\=Wong to Commander Matthew, prepare to give me all the power to shields, engines and weapons that you can find. Everything else is expendable, including life support. If we lose shields, polarise the hull plating, just keep us intact=/\=

For the first time in a long time, Kar'thul was put off his stride. The Victory's Commander closed the channel before the Lord could muster any kind of retort. He cocked his head in thought, trying to get his thoughts in order so he could distribute orders to the command centre's crew. Eighteen point three crychrons, that's how long he had been given to respond. It disgusted him. To have his entire fleet dictated to by this one rogueish ship.
After half the time had passed, the eyes of the crew began to fall on their Lord, all waiting for him to come to a decision. This should have been a straight-forward matter, usually the Lord's fleet would have sent the Victory to ignominous oblivion. However the new - and yet unconfirmed - knowledge that a larger Federation fleet was on its way had given Kar'thul pause for thought, not to mention the upstanding response from the Victory. Whether or not the Starfleet vessel acted as they promised to remained to be seen, Kar'thul was doubtful they would attack so readily but there was more at stake here, his objective, his mission for the Kasan'thar...
"Advance the fleet," he announced unexpectedly. The Lord rose from his pedestal and walked to the forward viewscreen, the red light that saturated the place bathing his features in an almost demonic glow. "Raise defence screens, charge weapons to full capacity," he ordered roughly, "And ready all banks for fire." The controllers busied themself with his orders, the fleet entered full battle mode, advancing in a concave formation to block the Victory in; if the Starfleet ship wanted to go forward it would have no choice but to withstand the broadsides of the Kasar-occupied Tholian armada.
"Open a channel." Va Kar'thul made sure his entire face filled the Victory's viewscreen, but had it clothed in layers of false-colour radiation, the Executive officer of the enemy ship would not see his features. A curtain of menace, commonly used to strike fear into the Kasar's opponents in war.
To the Lord's frustration, he was kept waiting. When Colonel Tiberian Wong did respond, Kar'thul's mood was worsened, but he held it together, kept his composure. An image of the Victory's bridge appeared on the viewscreen. Two green-clad human males sat in what the Lord understood was the command area. The centrally sitting one stood and prepared to listen.
Kar'thul drew himself up, "USS Victory, I have considered your demands and wish to request a dialogue. A personal dialogue." Kar'thul's crew twisted around in surprise. The Lord knew they would be confused by the seemingly contradictory courses of action he was instigating. The fleet was poised to attack, and yet their leader was - apparently - offering to open negotiations. Kar'thul had his reasons, reasons which only the Kasan'thar (which the Lord was a part of) were privy to.
"Arrangements are already being made for your transport to my ship, but I want to make it clear that I will not tolerate deception," the Lord continued, "Thus the reason why my fleet's weapons have been trained on your vessel. I hope you are not intimidated, Colonel Tiberian Wong." Kar'thul signalled to the appropriate controller and a transport ship, marginally bigger than a Federation shuttle craft, was dispatched to the USS Victory.
"I would urge you not to fire at the craft approaching your vessel, Colonel. Please extend to it your fullest of welcomes, and if you still wish to negotiate, have it take you to my ship. Take with you whoever you wish." Kar'thul cut the channel and retreated to his pedestal. Now he would see if the enemy Commander still wished to negotiate.
<Tag Wong>
"Your face is a bit smudged with soot but nothing that should raise comment. You may have lost a few tufts of hair as well but, again, it's not going to cause comment." Ghes was amused at the science officer's assessment. He smiled and chuckled quietly. Well at least it wasn't his actual hair. "Am I all right still?" Tiana asked.
Ghes took a second to look, "You seem fine," he said, "Cosmetically at least." Tiana nodded and looked down, as if she had been expecting more comment from the Navigator. Should he speak his thoughts? But he didn't have to make the decision for himself, because his natural instinct was already saying it, "Although," he began, "It's under the surface that I'm concerned about. Are you feeling alright, Commander?"
<Tag Tiana>
The two of them got moving again, heading in the general direction of the dome structure which Ghes estimated was about a two or three kilometres distant. They kept to cover whenever they could; the progress was slow, and laborious, but Ghes knew they could not afford the luxuries of being out in the open. If the Paderau that had been chasing them had had a good look, then they could be recognised.
About half-way there, the two Victory staff members took a breather behind what appeared to be a commercial office block. Although they were aware they could not rest for too long, even in as good a spot of cover as this, their trek had been hard work. The sun of the Jolmaran system beated down relentlessly on the urban sprawl, sapping their energy and giving them little cause for hope that they could do anything.
The buildings were not particularly heat-resistant either, unlike on Earth, Denobula and many Federation worlds. The heat from them was nearly intolerable, and yet it was impossible to get away from them. While they were resting, trying to regain some form of strength, Tiana's new scanner began beeping wildly. They knew what that meant, proximity alert. Before they could react their assailant was upon them. He came from above, likely the ground floor of the office block, Ghes ascertained, and came crashing down on the two officers' shoulders. Ghes yelped with pain as the Paderau's foot made contact on his shoulder and he felt suddenly faint. Rolling away from the wall on the floor, he pulled out his salvaged phaser and when he came to a rest on his side he had his weapon pointed at the Paderau, who for some reason was shocked that he had not incapacitated Gheskori and Tiana.
"I would not move if I were you," Ghes told him, slowly getting to his feet and keeping his weapon trained on their attacker. Ghes knew the risk of displaying the phaser openly to this member of a pre-warp civilisation, but he had no choice anymore. Ghes was however unsure what to say to this Paderau, whether to ask him what was going on on this planet and why they possessed Tholian technology, or whether to keep things quiet. He glanced at Tiana - who was just getting to her feet - silently asking for help.

"You seem fine," he said, "Cosmetically at least." Tiana nodded and looked down wondering if he was going to say anything about her emotional break, and more to the point did she want him too? It wasn't as if she was
"Although," he continued, "It's under the surface that I'm concerned about. Are you feeling all right, Commander?"
Tiana swallowed slowly and gave a very watery smile in response. "I think I'm all right now, but for a moment there I wasn't." She drew in a deep breath and squared her shoulders. "I just let a lot of things get on top of me. Won't happen again 'til were back on the Victory." She spoke with assurance partly for Ghes's benefit but mostly for her own. "Thank-you for being concerned about me."
She and Ghes clambered out of their hiding place and the two of them got moving again. The dome was two or three kilometres away the streets were hot and dusty. They did their best to stick to shadows and stay away from crowded areas which of course meant that their route was longer than it could have been.
They were about halfway to the dome and ducked behind some buildings when her scanner began beeping wildly. They knew what that meant, proximity alert. Before they could react their assailant was upon them. He came from above, likely the first floor of the office block, and came crashing down on the two officers' shoulders. Tiana saw non-astrophysical stars for a moment as be foot or knee connected with the side of her head. She heard Ghes yelp but was to busy trying to make her eyes focus properly to help him. She rolled backwards wary and ready for some sort of follow up.
Instead of a threat she saw Gheskori holding a phaser on their assailant. It meant that they had revealed themselves at least partially to a pre-warp civilisation but if their thoughts so far they were not the first to have done so. "I would not move if I were you," Ghes told him, slowly getting to his feet and keeping his weapon trained on their attacker.
Ghes was looking at her, Tiana had to provide support since he had managed to get hold of someone who could give them some answers. Tiana smiled, her frustration and anger leaking into her eyes in a very un-reassuring manner. This look had once warned her brothers that they had just pushed their little sister too far and were going to suffer for it.
She stared at the Paderau, his gaze levelled at her and she saw him flinch for a second, at least she thought she did. "So," Tiana said slowly, her voice lower pitched than normal with a touch of growl to it. "Would you care to enlighten us on why you attacked us?" Her phraseology was polite but her tone was not, there was no way anyone listening could fail to hear the implied threat in her words

"Enemy batteries are charging, the fleet is advancing to encircle us" a sudden report from the tactical officr on duty gave Tiberian his answer about negotiations. The comm line that they had been trying to open must have been a ruse.
"Permission to take evasive action" the helm officer asked, his hands already prepping co-ordinates.
"Permission to fire at will" the tactical officer must have already been locking on targetting sensors.
"Permission to mess myself" Martinez said in a half sarcastic manner. All these came almost at once, but Tiberian barely heard any of them, his eyes fixed to the viewscreen. He raised a hand, silencing the bridge.
"Does it dawn on anyone that after charging weapons and advancing that they haven't opened fire. This isn't an attack. Keep weapons trained and targets locked, but no fire, no evasion. We stand. They really are trying to talk. Comms"
"Comm line open sir"
"USS Victory, I have considered your demands and wish to request a dialogue. A personal dialogue. Arrangements are already being made for your transport to my ship, but I want to make it clear that I will not tolerate deception. Thus the reason why my fleet's weapons have been trained on your vessel. I hope you are not intimidated, Colonel Tiberian Wong. I would urge you not to fire at the craft approaching your vessel, Colonel. Please extend to it your fullest of welcomes, and if you still wish to negotiate, have it take you to my ship. Take with you whoever you wish."
The line cut, and Tiberian stared at the small advancing craft on the viewer.
"When the shuttle reaches the proximity of our shield bubble, drop shields and let it in. Allow passage to shuttlebay one"
"Are you sure sir?" The tactical officer on duty looked at him quizzically, questioning the sense of his command. Undoubtedly many of the other officers on the bridge were thinking the same thing. He had to make a stand. He knew what he was doing.
"Look mister, if you can't handle taking my orders, then get off this bridge. I didn't get to be the XO of one of the foremost ships this side of the Betreka Nebula just because of my winning smile. Now obey my orders, or question them again, and I can relieve you to the brig"
Silence.
"Dropping shields, giving approach vectors for shuttlebay one" The next words the tactical officer spoke, his eyes fixed to his console. "Permission to send a security team to maintain a presence in the bay, sir"
"Granted"
"To hell with security" Martinez stated tapping his commbadge. =/\=Marine team alpha, report to shuttlebay one, full combat readiness=/\=
"Thirty phaser rifles trained on them when they enter. That's diplomatic" Tiberian said as he walked towards the turbolift.
"Hold on a minute, you're not actually going along with this" Martinez suddenly realised just how serious Tiberian was. "Well I'm sure as hell not letting you leap headfirst into the frying pan by yourself. Last thing you need is to be in any more trouble"
"Sergeant Major, leave this to me" Tiberian said firmly, turning back to Martinez and handing over his phaser, knife and stun baton from his belt, leaving only his tricorder. "I intend to get myself into trouble, you are under strict orders to make sure I get out of it. Remember, if they try and turn the tables on me or use me as a hostage, the ship and the Federation comes first. Don't hesitate to fire on any openings should the need arise"
"I won't. I also won't let Tallows take a transporter lock off you so long as you're over there, even if the shields are up. Good luck"
"I'm gonna need it" Tiberian winked and entered the turbolift.
=/\=Wong to Commander Matthew, please return to the bridge. I'm heading over to the Tholian vessel, and the Captain is attempting to obtain classified files. In the meantime, the ship is yours. Don't blow anything up until I'm back=/\=
<TAG Commander Matthew>
Tiberian entered the shuttlebay a few minutes later, recently refurbished after their previous explosive mission. Almost thirty mixed security and marine personnel were clustered around the shuttelbay, phasers and rifles trained on the alien shuttel that graced the centre. One of the marines, Bob, whose Andorian name was unpronouncable, moved forwards and proffered a rifle, which Tiberian declined.
"Not this time mate. Have the men stand easy"
"Beg pardon sir, but I don't think they would if they were ordered to by James T. Kirk himself right now" Bob jerked his head around the room, drawing Tiberian's attention to how almost everyone there was not blinking, their weapons straight ahead. Suddenly, the door opened at the rear of the shuttle, and a rattle of thirty rifles coming to bear could be heard.
"In that case just tell them not to kill anyone" Tiberian hissed, walking forwards as Bob gave him one last pat on the back. He entered the shuttle, the door closing rapidly behind him. He was pulled forwards, scanned, pushed, prodded and probed, and finally forced into a seat with a vicious clicking sound.
"Sooo..." Tiberian whispered sarcastically "Take me to your leader"

The transport vessel was heading back to Kar'thul's warship now. The Kasar Commander monitored the passage of the small shuttle-like ship constantly on a small viewscreen off to the side of the bridge. He wished to be closer to some of the controllers for this, making sure that they were taking all the necessary precautions regarding the transport's approach. One of them told their Lord that the transport had communicated its status (including who it had aboard) as it had passed through his ship's defence screens.
Just as per procedure.. Kar'thul thought, his eyes shooting from station to station and taking in the information. Everything was running smoothly and now it was time to welcome the enemy's commander; just the commander, for he was, quite inexplicably, travelling alone. They could have at least made better use of my hospitality, Kar'thul thought bitterly as he made his way from the command centre. The transport craft had been modified so that it would accommodate an organism unadapted to high temperatures, the ship's crew and soldier guard were encased in environmental armour.
Kar'thul made his way through the confining corridors to the Main Bay at which the transport would dock. The Tholian design meant that the ceiling was marginally too close for comfort, both for the Lord and his armed escort of highly trained Guards, who were following and preceding him in the inferior and slightly nauseating concourse, built so by the lesser of the silicon-based races. As they traversed the distance to their destination, Kar'thul communicated with the command-centre, relaying orders to his controllers to begin the next phase: close in yet further on the Victory, and readying weapons to fire. That would keep the enemy guessing as to their Commander's current state.
<Tag Matthew>
The Lord of the Kasan'thar, just one of many of them scattered throughout the frontiers of the Kasar's realm, emerged from the concourse through a large and particularly high entrance-way, which led out on to the giant Main Bay. It was a vast cavernous space, bordered on one side by a sizeable bulkhead that was at that moment open to space, the interior protected only by a powerful forcefield. The technology of the forcefield allowed for a ship of modest proportions to enter without the forcefield actually being lowered, the energy field's boundary would shape itself around the ship as it entered.
Kar'thul looked on as the transport craft did just this. It approached from the right, executed a turn and slowed to a near stop as it neared the ship. It passed through what was close to the dead-centre of the field, and once its last trailing ends had parted themselves from the crackling energy, slowly lowered itself to the floor of the giant bay. The Lord steeled himself, then ordered his escort forward to the ship. Once they were facing the rear-hatch of the craft, they arrayed themselves down either side of the entrance, except Kar'thul of course, who stood centrally in front of the hatchway, now encased within an encounter suit. It would be improper for this human to see his face. The hatch's locking mechanisms released with a snaky hiss, and the ramp dropped.
Out came a number of the Kasar soldiery, dressed in full environmental encounter suits (which they would no longer need). They stood themselves similarly to Kar'thul's escort, arrayed similarly down either side of the ship. Following these typically robust soldiers of the Kasar race was a rather disgruntled looking human, his body contained within a bulky and old environmental suit compatible with his race. He made his way down the ramp with difficulty, shielding his eyes somewhat, and stumbling occasionally due to the suit he was wearing.
"Colonel Tiberian Wong," Kar'thul greeted him, the universal translator working as best as could be expected. "Lord Va Kar'thul, commander of this fleet and Bringer of Justice for the great, third arm of the Kasar Navy." The human managed to steady himself in his suit, and brought his attention to Kar'thul. Kar'thul smiled and unfriendly smile, but the Colonel could not see it anyway. The guards withdrew from the transport's rear hatch entrance, some going back to their duties, but the greater part of them coming up behind the human. The Victory's representative seemed to get the idea, and started moving. Kar'thul set in alongside him. They began walking towards the exit of their cavernous surroundings, heading for the 'diplomatic' room that had been set up not far from the Bay.
"I trust the suit I have provided is to your satisfaction?" Kar'thul asked, seeing that the Colonel was having trouble keeping up with his easy strides. "I must apologise if it prohibits you in any way, but we cannot very well modify the environs of our whole ship without causing certain.. logistical problems shall we say?" Kar'thul subtlely joked. Just like he had with the military arm of the Federation, he'd extensively researched their custom in general dialogue. "Do not trouble yourself. Where we are heading will be more comfortable for you Colonel."
They reached the diplomatic room. The interior was a cold blue. Gentle light illuminated the sombre-looking place from where the walls met with the ceiling. Situated in the centre of the space, a sizeable round table with a dozen non-descript, black seats set around it. Both Kasar and human could be comfortable in this place, as long as the silicon lifeform was wearing some form of protection of course (Kar'thul's current suit was adequate).
The Colonel had made his way into the room, having taken off the constricting helmet that he no longer needed. Kar'thul stood at the place's entrance. "You must be thinking of what we want with you here, Colonel Tiberian Wong. The truth is, as you know, that we both have a situation here. We'll discuss this in detail of course when my fellow Commanders join me from their respective ships, but as a preview, if you will... This system was claimed as Kasar territory four of your months ago. The inhabitants have accepted our presence as being for the good of their society. I know you intended to establish new contact with these people, and I don't mean to dampen any discussion before it's begun, but it is too late for your mission here. These people will not listen to you, they have accepted our presence and are revelling in what we can do for them. Any contact you make will doubtless alienate them from us. That is all for now, Colonel. I shall return soon with others." Kar'thul finished with a peculiar, nearly menacing form of politeness. He turned his back to the Colonel and promptly left. The door to the cold, dry room slid shut and locked with a solid and terrible click.

"So," the angry looking Tiana began, slowly treading towards the Paderau with deliberate steps. Ghes covered his mouth and turned away slightly, the reason being because he was hiding a grin. He had been around the Science officer long enough to discern her mood in these kind of situations; it amused him. "Would you care to enlighten us on why you attacked us?"
The Paderau fidgeted a little, this being the first time he had conversed with a Starfleet officer, despite their homely - from his point of view - appearance. "Because I was told to," he replied unsteadily, still fidgeting. Ghes looked back at Tiana, silently exchanging information, trying to figure out what all this meant.
"Would this mystery person also be responsible for bringing the shuttle, my craft incidentally, out of your sky?" Ghes asked, his phaser still pointed unwavering at the cornered Paderau. The Paderau gave the Denobulan a long look, then he shifted his eyes to the phaser in Ghes's hands, then to Tiana and back to Ghes again. The Victory's CNO saw it instantly, he was trying to figure his chances of taking down both Starfleet officers and making an escape.
Ghes gave the Paderau a knowing smile, "Impossible." He told him flatly. The smile didn't drop from his face, "Answer my question." In way of reply, the Paderau made a strange cranial motion.
"Does that mean yes?" Ghes asked.
"Yes." The Paderau said.
"What is your name?"
"Brosja, of the Paderau Special Initiative."
"Thank you, Brosja. Now, would you come with me please." Ghes indicated for Brosja to step further down the alley, back the way which he and Tiana had come. They reached the point where the alley merged into the back alley along the spine of the block.. "Do you see that large, grey dome structure?" Ghes pointed with his unused hand straight at the obvious building off in the distance. Brosja made the same odd cranial gesture. "Good, what is it?" Ghes asked him, "And would it have something to do with the activity on the fourth planet in your system?"
Gheskori sensed a shift in Brosja's mood. It had just changed from afraid but defiant, to slightly confused. He frowned, and turned to look at Ghes. "Err... what?" was all he managed.
"Oh. You do not know about that, then?" Ghes asked, genuinely surprised. He assumed that the influence on this planet from the Tholians, or whatever they actually were, would be common knowledge to this Paderau, considering he had attacked them. Brosja indicated no. "This Special Initiative, it is a governmental institution?" Ghes asked, waving the phaser as a reminder.
"The Initiative is the government," Brosja said with a hard voice, his defiant streak was back. "It is now anyway."
** ** **
Ghes returned with Brosja to where Tiana was again working on the proximity alarm/scanner. "Commander Tiana," Ghes said to her, "I've got something, but it doesn't make things any better. In fact it probably means we have a harder job than we thought we did." Tiana looked stopped with the scanner and looked up at him questioningly. "Brosja works in government, in a special exclusive division that seems to control all extraplanetary issues, including their budding near warp-capable space program. The thing is," Ghes sat down, keeping one eye and his phaser on Brosja, "I don't think he or any of that division knows that they have the tech of a particular siliconate lifeform on their world. Oh they know there is an influence from somewhere.. but it runs deeper and into better hidden channels than we thought." He jumped up from the ground. "Are you ready with the scanner then, sir? I think we should get moving again, we have some investigation on our hands it seems."
<Tag Tiana>
Ghes smiled, in fact he felt himself nearly laughing with glee of anticipation, "Should be fun!" he exclaimed. With just a look at him, Ghes coaxed Brosja into getting up and walking in front. He had told the Paderau that if there was any attempt to escape, then he would be shot.

The door closed, and Tiberian was left in the unfamiliar chill metal room. He placed the helmet he had been wearing on the table and stretched himself in the unfamiliar, uncomfortable and badly designed environmental suit. Had he known that he would need to wear something like this, he would have worn one of the specifically built EV suits from the Victory, rather than allow himself to be manhandled into this on the shuttle ride over. He conducted a quick visual analysis of the room, looking for vents, hatches, alternate exit roots, and any clearly visual monitoring equipment or weapon emplacements. He found none of them. All that this room contained was its non-descript table and chairs and a single door. Not even a window to look out on the stars from. This room had more than likely been a holding cell, converted for the pupose of his visit. Whatever that was.
He paced around the room, his fingers trailing on the table as he thought of what these beings would want to negotiate about. They had clearly no interest in the Federation in any conventional sense of the word, as their efforts had hitherto focused on the Tholians and the eradication of their culture. The only exposure to Starfleet they had had was on a small scale, attempting to Establish a friendly first contact. So, why then was there now a vicious combat fleet encroaching on Federation territory? He had already worked out part of the scheme. Their use of Tholian vessels was undoubtedly in an attempt to set up the Tholians and draw the Federation into The Colonial War. This would have weakned the Tholians and made the Kasar's job all the easier. But now that they had uncovered their plan, what did they still want, and why were they refusing to withdraw. Tiberian had a sickening feeling in his stomach that in light of their failure to achieve their ends by subterfuge, the Kasar were now going to make their presence known in this section of the galaxy by the most basic method possible. Sheer force. And that meant that this small stolen fleet would only be the vanguard of an impending force, one whose power and technology would likely be superior to that of the massed Tholian armada the Victory now faced.
Tiberian withdrew his tricorder and attempted to scan out of the room, hoping to gain some sort of tactical edge on the situation. His scans were blocked, a dampening field encompassing the room in which he was situated. Cursing quietly he closed the device and placed it back in his belt, instead moving to sit in one of the seats. Soon after Va Kar'thul returned, bringing with him a retinue of what must undoubtedly have been his armada's senior command echelon. They sat as much as their frames would allow, theit glowering eyes facing Tiberian. Not since the traumatic events he had witnessed aboard the Nekori ship many years ago had Tiberian felt quite so frightened by the mere appearance of an enemy. His training prevented it from being shown.
"You either want information, or you want a hostage" He began plainly. "If you want information, I'll only give you that which could in no remote way compromise Federation security. If you want the latter, then be warned that my crew have standing orders to destroy this ship for the good of the Federation, even at the cost of my own life. So, which is it?"

Tiana watched as Gheskori ushered Brosja down the alley at phaser point. She knew part of his motivation was to ensure there was no way their captive could jump them both at once. Tiana started work on the scanner again keeping her ears open for any disturbances from the 'conversation' further up the alley.
This was worse than Tiana had thought. The Paderau were clearly being manipulated by outside forces and it was those forces that had left them stranded here. Still, she was angry and more than a bit scared. It wouldn't do to let on about the latter though. She shrugged. "Then I guess we've got to evade the Government and the infiltrators and preferably supply the former with irrefutable evidence of the latter." She grinned, admittedly it was a slightly manic rather than reassuring smile but it was none-the-less a smile. "I did want to be a spy when I was a little girl, guess I've got the chance now."
Tiana knew having their captive along would make getting where they were going undetected harder but he would be useful if he would see evidence and then maybe they could get out of here without doing too much damage to the society...
Tiana wondered sardonically if there was anything else that could go wrong with this away mission. If there was... she did want to know about it.
Suddenly her scanner registered and aprroaching group. She gestured for Ghes to get the prisoner out-of-sight and then followed them. The three of them were in very confined quarters but Brosja wasn't causing any trouble. Tiana's eyes were fixed on her scanner screen and she did her best to shield them from the scanners of the approaching group. She had built the shield to hide two life-signs and it was coming close to overloading to hide three. She muttered silently to herself hoping it held out long enough for them to go away.

Vin left starfleet after a final meeting with Amiral Patrick, he had documents of a classified nature he needed Vin to carry to Commodore Nir'kem. He had a shuttle waiting for him once he reached where the shuttles and runabouts were kept. He went through the preflight warmup and left, heading for deep space, he put in the coordinates of the Victory and took the shuttle to warp 4.
A few hours later:
The shuttle dropped out of warp not far from where the Victory was, he found it on sensors and tapped the communications.
=/\= 'Shuttlecraft Titan to USS Victory come in please." Vinnie said.=/\=
"Go ahead Titan." Came a immediate reply.
"This is acting Ensign Vin Wolf, i'm the new Chief of security/Tactical Officer, I'm enroute will be there in fifteen minutes." Vin said.
"We have you Ensign and Commodore Nir'kem has been advised, she asks that you see her before getting settled." Came the reply.
"I shall once I'm onboard." Vin said.
The shuttle haded towards the Victory and was brought onboard by tractor beam. Once Vin powered down he left the shuttle and headed to the nearest turbolift, he took it up to the bridge, there was a ensign at tactical who smiled at him.
"Welcome aboard Ensign Wolf the Commodore is expecting you." She said.
Vin smiled and headed to the commodores ready room and rang the chime and heard enter. Vin entered and stood straight.
"Acting Ensign Vin Wolf reporting for duty ma'am." Vin said.
"Welcome aboard Ensign. At ease before you hurt yourself." She said sticking out her hand.
Vin shook her hand and handed her a docket. 'This is from Admiral Patrick, he asked me to deliver this."
"I see, well let me tell you whats going on, we have a battleship out there with Tiberian Wong onboard and we have two crewmen on a planet, I want you to work with with our Senoir officers and find a way to get them back." She said.
