Stuck in the confining space between two 2-storey buildings, Ghes, Tiana and Brosja's only hope was to climb the very high wall separating them from a back alley that was part of the next block. Several attempts at climbing that wall were unsuccessful, the Starfleet officers and Paderau Special Initiative member could find no purchase on the smooth vertical surface.
"We may be in some trouble," Ghes observed. "And we were almost there.." He glanced sharply at Tiana's scanner, it was just managing to mask all three of them, but that was not going to last long. According to the same device, an opposing trio were heading straight for them, heading down the gap between the buildings; all they had to do was dodge through a kink in the path and they would see their three quarry right in front of them, regardless of whether they were hidden or not. "Tiana, your foot." He hoisted the Science officer up and over the wall. It was not the option he had wanted to fall back on, now he would have to trust Brosja.
"Lift me," Ghes told him, "I'll stand on the wall and pull you up."
"Why can't you lift me first??" Brosja protested loudly.
"Well, forgive me Brosja, but it so happens that I cannot trust you. You cannot blame me now can you? Now hurry, they are very close." Brosja sighed and with great irritation, quickly lifted Ghes to the top of the wall.
From behind the Denobulan on the other side of the wall, Tiana's voice, "Ghes! The scanner is failing, it's only hiding two." In a split second decision that he knew he would regret in a minute, Ghes simply jumped off the wall and joined Commander Galwyn. The science officer picked him up and Ghes immediately indicated for her to be silent, he listened carefully to what was going on on the other side of the wall. Their assailants had found Brosja all alone and were asking questions.
"Specialist Brosja?"
In reply there was only deathly silence. The longer the Starfleeters listened the more increasingly clear it became that something was wrong with Brosja. They heard their pursuers whispering among themselves, then one of the voices said, "He's dead."
"Why?" another voice asked. A pause. Then,
"Suicide, look at this.."
Ghes and Tiana were running away now, desperately trying to get away from the pursuers. They traversed the short distance they still had to travel to the dome structure to a degree much more careless than they had before, just wanting to finish the journey now. They dodged what they soon realised were patrols, quickly and haphazardly, nearly being discovered several more times. The number of patrols grew in density right up to the building itself, and despite their disguises Gheskori and Tiana felt greater apprehension than they ever had before.
"It's a shame we've lost Brosja," Ghes said, "According to him, this place is the Initiative's base, thus the place where it all happens. He might've been useful in this situation." They were in the shadow of a overhang on the lower levels of the dome, their backs up against the structure's smooth, shiny metallic surface. Tiana nodded, still recatching her breath. The final burst for the finish had been exhausting. "Let's see if we can find a back door to this place," Ghes grinned.
The two made their way around the hemispherical building, following its edge closely while trying to remain inconspicuous. It was easier said than done, but they made it to a simple looking entrance way, surely not the main entrance. Hoping that somehow all the Paderau had not been made aware that he and Tiana's faces were wanted, Ghes broke the lock on the weak door with his phaser while Tiana kept a look out. In they went...
They were greeted by a simple enough, blue-tinted corridor/room. About four metres ahead in the two-metre wide corridor was a small set of steps that led to another simple looking door. To the right before those steps was something that looked like a data portal. Tiana moved straight for it, Ghes nodded at the silent look she gave him; he kept guard, keeping his phaser by his side and situating himself such that he had both doors covered. A minute later Tiana had access, and said she had some access to communication systems.
"Can we contact the Victory without the Paderau knowing?" Ghes asked her.

"You either want information, or you want a hostage. If you want information, I'll only give you that which could in no remote way compromise Federation security. If you want the latter, then be warned that my crew have standing orders to destroy this ship for the good of the Federation, even at the cost of my own life. So, which is it?"
Kar'thul had led in his retinue of ship commanders, trusted Lieutenants he had served with and won many battles with in the name of Her, into the dour converted chamber. After brief introductions all the Kasar barring Kar'thul sat as one, joining Colonel Wong at the table. Kar'thul had taken a moment to survey the silent Commanders and then sat himself. Now he replied to Wong's demanding questions.
"We want information," the Lord replied, wanting to diffuse the tension; it wouldn't do to have that prolonged, but he knew it was probably impossible with his Lieutenants present. Before he started doubting the format of the meeting, Kar'thul met Wong's steely gaze, "But understand," he said "that to us this matter is extremely.. delicate." The Lord Commander nodded to one of the Kasar around the table. That Kasar rose with difficulty from his seat and went to the far wall; he compressed an inconspicuous looking button and the room instantly darkened. A red glow emanated from the ceiling directly above the table, and from that point, a holographic image blew out to encompass the entire volume above the table. The 3 dimensional holograph emitted a purplish blue glow into the faces of the stoic Kasar and the human marine officer. The divinely complex structure, glowing with the light of the Power; She was before them, once more..
The Kasar bowed their heads slightly in reverence at the image displayed before them, that of the 'Crystalline Entity' as some colder, misguided beings would so call Her. Lord Kar'thul looked ahead, through the quasi-transparent image of the entity, to Colonel Wong. "Colonel," he said, "This is the information we want. We want to know where this this magnificently structured crystal, this 'lifeform' is. I implore you, do tell us. For too long the Federation has lied on this matter, explicitly stating the unthinkable, and now you cannot keep Her hidden from us any longer."
<Tag Wong>
If it had been in his body chemistry, the Kasan'thar Lord would have been shaking violently with the unspeakable rage he was experiencing. He rose from the chair, barging the pathetic, small table out of the way as he did so. This was terrible, too terrible to contemplate; what a mistake he had made in bringing this infidel aboard this equally pathetic Tholian ship. "Command," he called the Command Centre on a communication device inside his suit, "Prepare to matter-transport our guest to the coordinates 20.48 by 3988.01."
A reply came a moment later, "Lord, that is off our port bow outside the main weapons housing."
"And?" said Kar'thul.
"Yes, Lord; transporting now."
In a panicky rush, the Colonel tried to get his helmet back on. But the Kasar in the room did not know whether he succeeded, because by then he had disappeared from the room in a cadence of shimmering light.
Once the light had faded, Kar'thul's lieutenants all looked at each other with satisfied smiles. Kar'thul himself spoke to the controller again, "Command, charge port bow weaponry and fire at the unfortunate man we've just spaced.."
<Tag Matthew - OOC: I advise that you rescue your commanding officer>
Tiana told Ghes that it was possible to contact the Victory, but not without their communication being detected. "How long?" Gheskori asked her, his eyes not moving from the two doorways that he still had his weapon loosely pointed at.
"If you mean how long will it take for the Paderau to find the source of the unauthorised communication.. Approximately ten minutes." She told him. The science officer didn't need any advice, she started sending a distress message, and hoped that the Victory was still close enough (wherever they actually were) to receive the message in good time and come to the two stranded officers' rescue. The Denobulan raised an eyebrow in surprise.
"Providing they're within ten minutes of us, then all will be fine.." he said aloud. Tiana pressed the button to send the message.. it turned out that the ship was in the system, because the signal was received almost immediately. Just when he thought he'd had enough surprises (one, at finding this access panel and two, the knowledge that the Victory was still in the system) Ghes got another one. The Victory dared a quick response in text only. Apparently, they were in full retreat (again)....
The fleet of the Kasan'thar swept forward, threatening to overtake the USS Victory like a deadly tidal wave rapidly making its way landwards. The treachery of the Federation and the Colonel's plucky escape from disintegration had ignited the Kasar's wrath, their ships alighted with a flame of passion and destruction. What was distressing the Kasan'thar commander was the fact that the Nebula class starship was fleeing in the direction of Jolmar Prime. They had to be stopped, by any means. Kar'thul would either destroy them, or drive them from the system as fast as they were able; which meant he'd force them to warp away before they reached the planet.

Tiana and Ghes ran through the backalleys desperately trying to put as much distance between themselves and the group hunting them as possible. Tiana was gasping for breath and promising herself that she'd hit the gym if, no when, they got back to the Victory.
They walked slowly, and Tiana hoped, inconspicuously around the building until they located a backdoor. Ghekori shot the lock through while Tiana kept watch. Inside was a blessed relief from the heat and dust outside.
Tiana made a beeline towards a data terminal figuring that she should be able to crack their security fairly quickly. She threw a look at the navigator but he had all ready caught what she wanted him to do and was standing guard while she worked.
"Can we contact the Victory without the Paderau knowing?" Ghes asked her.
"Sort of ...." Tiana replied as her fingers flew across the control panel "I can certainly get a message out and I am 98% certain that they won't be able to track where the message is going or where any reply comes from. However...." She paused a moment as she carefully entered an access code "with a similar degree of certainty I can say that they will track the origin of the message to this data terminal."
"How long?" Gheskori asked her, his eyes not moving from the two doorways that he still had his weapon loosely pointed at.
"If you mean how long will it take for the Paderau to find the source of the unauthorised communication.. Approximately ten minutes." Tiana said without looking up from her work, the security was a little better than she had counted on but still nothing she couldn't crack. The ten minutes was her lower estimate she had set up a fake path that bounced the signal around so it appeared to come from a hundred other terminals in the building. She trusted Ghes to keep a look out and she had to hold up her end of the deal by getting a message out without them getting caught here. She started sending a distress message, and hoped that the Victory was still close enough (wherever they actually were) to receive the message in good time and come to the two stranded officers' rescue. She planned to loop it and then embed the signal in their comms net with any luck it would take them hours to completely kill the message.
"Providing they're within ten minutes of us, then all will be fine.." he said aloud. Tiana barely heard him, she pressed the button to send the message.
To her surprise it turned out that the Victory was in system, because the signal was received almost immediately. The Victory dared a quick response in text only. Tiana's heart fell, apparently, they were in full retreat. It didn't look like they were going to get off this dust-ball anytime soon.
Now they had to get away from here, there were two options as far as Tiana could see, feither they could leave the facility or they could go deeper into it. Tiana worked the data terminal furiously she had added an access cod for herself so hopefully doors should be no problem and downloaded a map of the facility to her scanner.
"Ghes," she said urgently. "Go and open the door we came in through, I want them to think we've left. Then we've got to leave." She turned to one of the locked doors on the corridor, if she had got the true map this was a small storage room that had access to some of the facility's ductwork. After crawling through the Vicotry's ducts last mission she had vowed that she wouldn't do that again in a hurry but at the moment she could see no other choice. She opened the door, glanced inside to check that it was what her map said it was, then pushed Ghes through ahead of her and then pulled the door closed behind her. She quickly relocked it. The ten minutes hadn't passed yet but Tiana was convinced that she could hear movement behind the other door.
She looked at the access panel in the ceiling it would take some effort to get them both up there and to do it quietly would be even tricky, still Tiana felt it was possible.

"We want information, but understand, that to us this matter is extremely.. delicate. Colonel this is the information we want. We want to know where this this magnificently structured crystal, this 'lifeform' is. I implore you, do tell us. For too long the Federation has lied on this matter, explicitly stating the unthinkable, and now you cannot keep Her hidden from us any longer."
Tiberian froze at this question. He knew exactly what had happened to the Crystalline Entity, and he had a strange feeling of how a small fleet of deranged religious zealots armed to the teeth and in Federation space would take the news. He weighed up the pros and cons in his mind. If he told them, it was highly likely they would kill him and destroy the Victory, if he didn't tell them, theywould kill him and destroy the Victory and find someone else to tell them. Pretty much a lose or lose worse situation no matter which way you looked at it. His only real opportunity was to try and stall them until the fleet arrived, and that wasn't really an option. Short of him reciting his entire knowledge of HMS Pinafore, there was no way he could distract the Kasar high command for several hours. He had to take his chances. He knew that the marines on the bridge would be monitoring him with tyhe veridian patch that Bob had slapped onto his back before he boarded the shuttle. If they killed him and the signal disappeared, then they'd no to make a break for it. Unless of course, they opened fire on the Victory first.
"I am afraid Lord Va Kar'thul, that what I have to say is not going to make this a day you want to remember" he began, biting the proverbial bullet. "I am aware of the existence of the Crystalline Entity, as my people call it, and I am also aware of it's destruction over thirty years ago by one of our leading starships. I regret this incident, but I must inform you that your God was wreaking wanton havoc on the Federation, and massacring innocent worlds. Our actions were justified"
He stopped and exhaled. The last bit had gone way over the line, but it didn't really matter. If they were going to kill him, and they probably were, then the first part of the tale was enough to damn him. His thoughts were justified only a few moments later by the order to beam him into space. In a frantic scramble to get his helmet, he glanced a look into the equivalnt of the Kasar Lord Va Kar'thul's dark eyes. They were black, and full of hatred. He pulled on his helmet as he began to feel the transporter's embrace.
"Just my flaming..." Was all he could manage before he dematerialised.
He next found himself floating freely in space. He began to asphyxiate almost immediately. The suit had no inbuilt air recycling unit, and h had only the air trapped within the body of the suit to breath. That was barely good for a few seconds. And then, for the second time in less than a minute, he felt the transporter beam whisk his atoms away. His next thought was of the bright lights over him, and a dull hum of indistinct noise in the background. And then raw pain across his face.
"Wake up you bloody idiot!" Katie screamed at him, shaking him roughly, until his eyes came back into focus. He was flat on his back on the transporter pad, with Katie standing over him, the transporter technician at her side. "I can't believe you just did that! You almost died" she yelled, suddenly interrupted by the violent shaking of the ship.
"Site to site transport" Tiberian mutterd, all but shoving Katie off the pad. He was still groggy from the momentary lack of oxygen, and he was struggling to his feet. "Come on man, beam me to the bridge"
The technician didn't question, and immediately manned the console, sending Tiberian to the bridge in a shimmer of whirling light. Such an unexpected arrival was uncommon to say the least, never mind an arrival in a Kasar heat suit, and thus Tiberian was unsurprised to find three phasers trained on him almost immediately. He waved them down, and then almost fell on the tactical console.
"Report" he said to no-one in particular.
"Fleet is advancing sir, firing random weapons bursts in our path. Shields down to 87%"
"Full impulse power, make for Jolmar Prime, evasive manouveures, gamma sequence. All weapons, fire indiscriminately at any and all targets"
The bridge leapt into life as the ship lurched forwards, disgorging its payload into the oncoming Kasar at full speed. The smaller vessel easily dodged he weapons fire of the larger battleships and cruisers, but was not fast enough to evade the swarm of smaller web spinners that soon threatened to engulf them.
"We can't out run the web spinners sir" the helmsman reported "Too many of them, and they're too fast. We'll be overrun and caught in a web in less than sixty seconds"
"Suggestions people" Tiberian shouted, as he used a proximity detonating torpedo to disperse part of the enemy formation.
<TAG Commander Matthew>
"What the hell, anything will work at this point. We're dead anyway. Full power to the navigational deflector and transproter targetting scanners. Take power from tactical if you have to. Blanket broadcast a message at Jolmar Prime, all frequencies and bands. Tell Tiana and Gheskori to set up some sort of signal amplifier so we can see them to beam them up. Tell them we're aout to do something very stupid" He exhaled. "And pray that they hear the message"

The exit door to the dome swung ajar as Tiana and Gheskori went through one of the internal doors into a small room. Above them, the access panel to some ventilation ducts. Right now those ducts seemed the only safe option; they could not very well wander through the corridors of the dome, there were doubtlessly many Paderau around.
What struck Gheskori, as he helped the science officer up into the duct first, was that the whole interior of the building was to much the same level of advancement - at least in its appearance - to the exterior of the building. This technology certainly did not come from the Paderau themselves; it was as Ghes had pieced together earlier on, back out in the city. The source of their tech did not come from any worldly force, the outside influence of.. somebody, had left a definite imprint of this society.. on their space program.. the orbital stations, the energy dampener from this dome, probably on their entire governmental system. And yet they seemed not to know the exact source of all their wondrous technology. At least, thought the Denobulan, that was if their late friend Brosja had been truthful.
After some effort, Gheskori managed to join Commander Galwyn in the ventilation shaft. In deciding which way to go, Ghes decided that he would have to trust his sense of direction and just hope that the two of them didn't get terribly disorientated. Before long, the CNO and CScO came upon another access panel in the floor.. like the other one, this panel was little more than a plastic grate. Not all top-level technology then.. thought Ghes. They had to be careful not to dislodge the grate by their simple passage over it, for their were Paderau in the room below. Six of them, all standing at banks of consoles that were situated against three of the four walls in the small, rectangular space.
They managed to crawl past in the confining duct without moving the flimsy grate. As far as the two were aware, they had not alerted any of the Paderau in the room below. The vent carried on on their level a while longer, turning ninety degrees a few times and nearly making Ghes lose his bearings. It was as if the place had been designed to make them feel dizzy and unsure of their position, to make them get lost. Eventually, they came to a hatch in the duct ahead, as there were no other passages except the terminus at this steel sliding-door, the disguised Denobulan assumed that it was simply a small hatch in the middle of a greater length of duct. He was mistaken.
The two Paderau just stared at him, poking his head out of the duct and into the room beyond. Gheskori silently uttered several of his native curses; the duct had simply opened out on to a room! "Umm, hello." He said as brightly as he was able. One of the Paderau nodded in what he assumed was 'hello'. Ghes was surprised. Usually by now they would have either run away to sound an alarm, or drawn some form of ranged or close-combat weapon with the intention of shooting or hitting him and the CScO. But these weren't patrollers or soldiers, they looked liked scientists from their attire. And the room that Ghes and Tiana had now emerged to stand in looked like a lab.
The maybe-scientists looked at each other, trying themselves to figure out what to do but simultaneously asking for clues of one another. "You know who we are, I assume?" Ghes asked seriously.
They nodded, mouths slightly hanging open. "Yes," one said. "We know. What do you want here?" Ghes shrugged, as if to say 'nothing much'. Suddenly one of the scientists' consoles started beeping loudly. "It seems your ship is looking for you, trying to contact you," the same scientist said once he'd checked the readouts.
"You're monitoring our ship?"
Again the two scientists glanced at each other, unsure what to say. Eventually.. "Yes, we have been tracking you and your smaller craft ever since you arrived in orbit... But that doesn't matter. Your ship is transmitting on all bands.. you see. They want you to amplify your signals somehow so they can-" the Paderau was cut off by his colleague's incredulous laugh.
Ghes dared a step forward, desperately and eagerly trying to see the Paderau's screen. He wouldn't understand the graphics but it didn't quell his curiosity and sheer 'need' to find out what the ship wanted. "Can I.. please? We need to get off your world."
More glancing.. "We suppose we should try and stop you, but.." Trailing off, the scientist turned back to his console and started entering commands. "We'll amplify the signal from this room for you, your ship should see the clues as to your position easily." Gheskori looked on doubtfully, but he and Tiana were in a rather helpless position anyway. Why not trust this odd pairing?

Victory Commodore's Office/Main Bridge:
Vin finished with talking to the Commodore, she dismissed him and he walked out onto the bridge, he went straight to tactical and started to work, things did not look to good, he studied the web spinners, took a reading of what their power sources is, he turned to Commander Matthew.
"Commander, I may have a way we can stop the spinners, temporary knock them out so we can get a emergency away team to the planet. I beleieve the shuttles and the runabouts maynot be strong enough but what I have in mind is risky." Vin said.

Tiana and Gheskori seemed to have run out of ducting. Tiana stared at her map in puzzlement, maybe they should have gone up and the left at the last junction rather than just left...
She was about to voice her opinion when Ghes stuck his head out through a hatch.
"Umm, hello." He said as brightly as he was able The fact that the CNO was talking to someone made Tiana's stomach knot the fact that he was continuing to climb out the hatchway and did not seem at all perturbed allowed her stomach to unknot slightly. She had a fraction of a second to decide what to do, she could either abandon Ghes or go on and share his fate whatever that turned out to be. she couldn't leave him not after they had come through so far.
Tiana climbed slowly out of the hatch, the room she emerged into seemed to be a lab of some sort and the two people in it seemed to be researchers. There was a looked that marked a scientist in some indefinable way and she was pretty sure that is what these two people were.
"You know who we are, I assume?" Ghes asked seriously.
They nodded, mouths slightly hanging open. "Yes," one said. "We know. What do you want here?" Ghes shrugged, as if to say 'nothing much'. "We'll amplify the signal from this room for you, your ship should see the clues as to your position easily." Gheskori seemed doubtful, but as Tiana watched the two Paderau work she was sure that they were doing exactly what they had said they would. She finally spoke up.
"Add the tag 3 7 7 4 5 black to the signal please. " The one of the two looked at her for a moment. It was a simple recognition code, letting the Victory know it was really them at the source of this signal. She was itching to start pressing buttons herself but it was bad manners to do so in someone else's lab.

Tiberian was in now way prepared for what was going to come next, and he was fairly confident that no-one else on the ship waseither. He couldn't actually remember the last time he had heard about warp manouveure beta being used, and he sure as hell couldn't remember the protocol for it either. So he went with good old reliable and sat down, holding firmly onto his seat.
"This is the XO, all hands, brace, brace, brace" he called out into the shipwide comm system. All over the ship, hundreds of crewmen secured themselves at consoles, grabbed onto bulkheads, or wrapped their arms around railings as the ship gained increasing momentum.
"Stand by for warp jump, in 3, 2, 1, and mark" the helm officer called out, on the final word striking the engage key.
The nacelles glowed a bright light blue, and then the ship shot off into the darkness, leaving the pursuing Kasar fleet behind. They reappeared a fraction of a second later approaching Jolmar Prime at full speed.
"Full power to inertial dampners. All engines full reverse" Tiberian screamed as he felt the increasing thrust of g forces on his torso. "All dorsal portside thrusters fire on full burn. Decompress cargobay two"
The Victory slowed and banked, the combined thrust of the the decompressing cargbay and the ships thrusters veering them away from the upper atmosphere of the planet. They moved into a slingshot of an orbit, as the fast Tholian web spinners still approached rapidly from the direction of the fleet. The orbital stations too were moving into some manner of tactical formation, energy spikes on the sensors showing that they were charging whatever weapons had shot the Spectre down.
"We're getting a faint signal from the surface sir" a Vulcan science officer drew his attention away from the tactical overlay he was examining. "I can't get a location, or a complete decryption sequence, but I beleive the code at the end of the sequence is 37745 Black"
"That's Tiana's coded transmission tag" Tiberian mumbled to himself, realising that the message must have gotten through. They had less than two minutes to evacuate them before the fleet arrived and they were forced to run.
"Commander Matthew, get on the science desk and get that signal cleared up. I need transport co-ordinates and a confirmed lock on Tiana and Gheskori in one minute"
<TAG Commander Matthew>
"You" He pointed at an Acting Ensign at tactical who he failed to recognise. "I don't know who the hell you are or where you came from, but be inventive and buy us two minutes. Find some wy of taking out or distracting those orbital weapon stations"

Ghes watched on with an emotion that was something approaching fear. Terror and wonder was gripping him as he thought of the Victory approaching the planet fast, banking and preparing to take them from the surface... hopefully. Could these scientists be trusted? It was too late now if they could not be. Ghes and Tiana had placed their 'fates' if such a term could be used, in their hands. Two scientists of the Federation and two scientists of Jolmar. Each influenced by technology in different ways: the Paderau in a covert method, the Trill and the Denobulan in the spirit of understanding and cooperation.
One of the Paderau added the code that Galwyn requested. Ghes smiled. Now we should be able to get off this world, he said to himself inside. He would not have said that though. He kept his smile, looked at the Paderau scientists who were both staring at the console, their hands lying on the edge of it as if being supported. Ghes's smile faded, he slowly realised what these two had done; they were breaking any number of rules, probably disobeying direct orders. "Thank you," he said to them, nodding and for once, completely serious.
They looked back, nodding but still looking as if they had something else to say. Gheskori wished he could tear down whatever was stopping them from saying it. "Starfleet, they'll return here?" one of them said quietly.
Ghes paused; he'd half been expecting it but it still set him off his stride. "Yes, if you want us to then we would do everything to.. liberate, you?" They nodded. "Liberate you from what?"
There was silence for a long while; the Denobulan knew they were running out of time, and that the Victory was probably running out of time to beam them up too. Ghes needed to know the answer to his question, it being their original objective after it was clear there was some outside influence, but the longer he went without an answer the more clear it became that the two Paderau did not have one. Ghes was certain though, that others more 'high up' on this world would.
As he debated this, and was about to ask another question, he felt an almost reluctant, tentative sensation of a Federation transporter. "No!" he exclaimed as the light swirled around him and the shocked faces of the Paderau before him started to fade. Their saddened images dissipating from his vision, the last he would see of them.

Command Centre of Lord Va Kar'thul's 'flagship':
"They're transporting two from the surface, Lord."
Kar'thul clenched a fist, stood up and shoved himself towards to the forward viewport. So the Victory was escaping.. nothing could be done about that now. To make things worse they had taken back their officers from Jolmar Prime, the presence on that world which Kar'thul had known of from the beginning. How he could have let all his knowledge be known so much earlier! How he could have crushed those before him, the Nebula class vessel and Starfleet's undercover officers on the planet. No, he had been constrained by the very objective of dragging in the Victory.. to resolve the puzzle of their eternal curse; what Wong had told him in ignorance was blasphemy of the highest order. Unthinkable.. yet slowly dawning on Kar'thul as perhaps being true. It hurt him, yet illuminated him, to think as such. How could this be? Surely the Kasan'thar and all of the race were cursed. Kar'thul resolved to dominate this system, to rule over it openly in dominion, drive the inhabitants first into submission and eventual fading from the circles of existence, to have his seat of power for a time on Jolmar Prime and watch over new placements of hatcheries, before moving his fleet on...
The orbital stations, their automated circuits buzzing with the integrated Kasar technology installed (the origin of which being - mostly - kept as a secret from the Paderau) did their best to distract or even damage the Federation vessel but it was now getting away, heading back to friendly space. "Weapons officer," the Lord said, "Target the USS Victory's stern and unleash everything you have! Have the others follow suit."
The entire Kasar fleet unleashed a final volley on the slowed but again rapidly accelerating Victory. It was jumping out of the system, but it did not complete the operation before its rear had been lashed by a hundred bolts of plasmatic energy.

Tiana stood in silence in the lab waiting to be taken back to the Victory, her mind's eye she could see the Victory swooping in a tight turn over the planet and see the stresses and strains placed on the ship's inertial dampeners and SIF by such a manoeuvre.
"Starfleet, they'll return here?" one of them said quietly.
Ghes paused; he'd half been expecting it but it still set him off his stride. "Yes, if you want us to then we would do everything to.. liberate, you?" They nodded. "Liberate you from what?"
The conversation Gheskori was having with the scientists worked its way into Tiana's musings. The fact that the scientists were here, meant that they were in some way trapped. She felt that she and they were kin in some way and it hurt to leave them but she knew that there was no way that the Victory would fly off and leave them under the control of another race.
Then the lab and the two Paderau disappeared in the haze of a transporter. Tiana took one look around the Victory's transporter room and then smiled grimly. The ship was one red alert and she could feel vibrations through the deckplates that meant they were under attack at this very moment.
"We're back." Tiana said, her relief was evident in her voice. "We better get to the bridge. She and Ghes hurried from the transporter room, ignoring the bemused looks that their Paderau appearance and tattered and singed clothing drew.

Tiana hit the turbolift at the run, it did not feel that the 'lift was moving fast enough. She knew that some of the data she had got from the computers would be useful in allowing the Victory to make a proper defence. When the 'lite reached the bridge she almost fell out on to it. She glanced around quickly her eye soon latching on to the figure of the XO. "I know I haven't been debriefed yet but permission to return to duty requested, sir?"

"Forget the shuttle" Tiberian ordered quickly "We don' have time for a nice safe evacuation, just beam them up irrespective of speed. All auxiliary power to the pattern buffers and targetting scanners"
He waited for what seemed like an age, until the transporter room confirmed that they had the two crewmen onboard. Tiberian paused for a split second and exhaled a sigh of relief. He had endured brief moments of panic where he had feared that the two would either have been forced to remain on the planet until rescue arrived, or worse, that they had already been captured, and were beyond his help. But now they were back, and in spite of everything else that was going to hell in a handbasket around him, he was relieved.
"Helmsman" he called "Plot an escape course for Assailant, maximum warp. Engage as soon as we're clear of all the gravitational wells in the system"
"Aye aye sir" the deft fingers of the on duty navigational officer ran over his panel as the Victory bucked and turned, heading for the edge of the solar system.
"Mr Wolf, firing solutions" He called back to the tactical officer, now aware of his name for a quick look at the manifest of the shuttle which had come aboard in his absence. "Discriminate return of fire on the pursuing vessels. Keep them at a good distance. Photon torpedos, dispersal pattern sierra, on my mark. And, fire. Continue firing"
<TAG Ensign Wolf>
Behind the Victory, two of the pursuing web spinners were hit on their more lightly armoured prows and were forced to drop back in their pursuit, damage having been wrought on their shields and hull. Random torpedo and phaser hits also rattled the pursuing vessels. Causing them withdraw slightly, and cycle up their longer ranged weapons. Suddenly, Tiana was on the bridge, followed by Gheskori. The latter Tiberian sent to the helm to relieve the on duty officer, whilst Tiana turned to him.
"I know I haven't been debriefed yet but permission to return to duty requested, sir?"
"As if you have to ask Tiana, get me more power to the engines and aft facing shields. We're about to make a run for the border"
<TAG Tiana>
"Commander Matthew" Tiberian shouted "I need you to arm a torpedo with a graviton generator, set at maximum yield. Just before we jump to warp I want to fire it into the centre of the enemy formation to destabilise their warp fields. That shoudl give us enough chance to escape"
<TAG Commander Matthew>
The ship lurched, both as Gheskori took her into warp and as the rear of the ship was pelted with the plasmatic cannons of the Tholian fleet. Wolf fired the torpedo that Matthew had prepared, stunning the fleet if only for a moment. Tiana's shields held, and then in an instant the Victory was gone, snatched out of the jaws of death, and heading back to Assailant.
OOC: Ok guys, so that's pretty much a wrap. You can finish posting your final actions for this mission, and then I'll open the R&R thread on Assailant in a day or two.

"I know I haven't been debriefed yet but permission to return to duty requested, sir?"
"As if you have to ask Tiana, get me more power to the engines and aft facing shields. We're about to make a run for the border"
Tiana smiled darkly, her relief at being back on board and the stress of her time on the surface had bubbled to the fore and she was itching to do something. "I think I can do better than that, sir." She moved quickly to the science station talking over her shoulder as she did so. "I hauled some stuff out of the research centre's computer network. The thing is the base code under the system doesn't seem to be Paderau..." Tiana started pushing buttons on the science station as she talked. She was vaugely aware that she was loosing everyone in her explanation but carried on talking anyway she had to spell her ideas out to keep her mind on topic. She was tired there was no denying that but, she could do this. "I can get a handle on the way their computers work... That's 37% more power to the shields by the way. so I think it should give us a way to increase our effectiveness against them by analysis of the underlying algorithms..."
She carried on talking to herself as she continued to do all she could to keep the Victory in one piece. 17% more power to the engines and then a slight boost in engine efficiency. The Vic's systems were never designed to do what she was doing with them and no doubt the CEO would tell her off later but for now tuning the shield harmonics and other adjustments were making the difference. Tiana believed that they would be okay.

Bridge, USS Victory,
Vin had gotten confused with everyone shouting and the Captain was not being helpful, the exec jumped in and helped once Vin caught on he jumped in to assist, he kept rotating the shield frequencies while the exec fired, then the Captain ordered a torpedo the exec set and fired, vin waited for his cue to explode it and let the emitter do its job.
Vin pressed the detonate when the green light was given as the ship jumped to warp at the same time the torpedo exploded., scanners showed that the pursuing webslingers were stopped there war fields messed up.
"They are halted Commander." Vin said.

"We're back." Tiana said. Gheskori believed she was saying it more to herself than to him; the pure relief of being back on the ship.
"We are indeed," Ghes replied, looking around the transporter room with similar feelings of relief, but also sadness. Leaving the Paderau behind like they had and must do, was not how he envisioned the ending of this operation to be like. Still, his spirits were quick to lift as he looked around the room, and realised what he could now do for the ship. "Let us head for the bridge," he announced, leaving the room and nodding appreciatively to the transport operator.
Ghes took the helm, and after rearranging the display format to his favoured configuration, started guiding the ship further away from Jolmar Prime with the aim of escaping to warp. The changeover with the duty helmsman had been a quick but edgy affair, the helmsman had done brilliantly to maneuver the ship thus far and he was loathe to leave the post; Ghes needed the position though, and such was the necessity of a helm officer in this situation that he had placed his hands on the controls as the other man removed his.
He settled his hands over the rearranged controls and began manipulating them, pulling the Victory away from its pursuers. The tactical officer, a new Acting Ensign recruit, fired the ship's weapons into the ravening horde of ships that Ghes was now seeing for the first time. His eyes widened. They were Tholian ships, but from what some of the bridge crew were saying, it was not Tholians that were crewing them, but instead Kasar.
The ship shuddered with weapons impacts and projectile-like bolts that dissipated around them, sending shockwaves through the structure of the Nebula class vessel. Commander Galwyn talked away at her console, trying to buy them some more time with her modifications. The rest of the bridge knuckled down, attending to their stations but spending more time wishing and hoping that they would survive.
As soon as the ship got out of the gravity well of Jolmar Prime, Ghes jumped the ship to warp. Ensign Wolf, as the Denobulan later learned him to be called, fired a final salvo into the heart of the Kasar fleet and reported that they'd been stopped dead. Then, just when Ghes thought they'd got away cleanly, he was pivoted forwards in his seat and nearly sent flying over the helm console to the front of the bridge just under the viewscreen. They had been hit by one last lashing of Tholian weaponry.
Ghes recovered, checked the warp bubble's stability factor and sighed in relief. The ship was still on course and holding steady at medium-high warp, although the aft shielding and several semi-minor systems had taken heavy damage from the final attack. "That was close!" he exclaimed.
The ship was out of trouble and on a direct course for Starbase Assailant. The whirring of activity on the bridge was slowly grinding to a halt, the pattern of things returning to something normal. Gheskori's head at certainly stopped spinning. The adrenaline still maintained enough of a flow to keep him thinking of the past half-an-hour or so, he had not yet fully started to realise the repercussions of the last several days. Perhaps though, he thought, the events he'd experienced on the planet would increase the impact of it for him; maybe more so than it would, initially, for those on the ship.
Certainly, the Paderau were heavily influenced by the Kasar. The revelation of that true identity of the influence was yet to sink in as well, but either way, it was clear that not a lot could be done for the Paderau now. Not unless Starfleet returned, with a great many more ships, manpower, equipment and the logistical planning for a full scale invasion of a star system.
But away with such thoughts! Ghes demanded of himself. He looked around at the exhausted crew bridge crew, and with a smile and not a hint of hesitation, said, "Would anyone care to join me for a drink?"
