Paul Drew’s Office Starbase 47
“Really is a sorry state of affairs Paul, a sorry state of affairs.”
“You could say that Bill,” Drew replied, “am still not 100% certain how all this happened anyway.”
The man on Drew’s viewscreen let out a deep sigh, from his appearance it seemed that the Commander in Chief of Starfleet had not been getting much sleep lately. Drew noticed that his usual tidy hair was out of his place, there were bags under his eyes, and his uniform had the distant impression of having been slept in.
“There will be an investigation of course,” Commander in Chief Bill answered, while avoiding really answering Drew, “Magellan’ll take care of it am sure, he’s a good officer.”
“He is more than capable,” Drew agreed, “although I think Commodore Reckus will probably be giving him something of a nightmare, on top of the whole mess he has to deal with here already.”
“That one I keep hearing all the loud noises about?”
Drew gave his Commander in Chief an amused smile and nod.
“Anyway Paul,” Bill said, adapting a more official pose and tone of voice, “I didn’t call just to chat, what with the current crisis and all, we have decided to bring forward your new assignment, Nova could be tied up for months with this and we need to start getting back to business.”
Momentarily speechless, Drew just stared at the screen in surprise, then quickly remembered who he was talking to and snapped back to reality.
“I understand sir,” he replied, with a much more formal tone than before, “when did you have in mind?
“Effective immediately,” confirmed Bill, “you’re orders are being attached to this transmission, congratulations and good luck.”
“Thanks,” Drew said meekly as the transmission ended and the image on his screen returned to the Starfleet logo. This was quickly replaced with a menu system as Drew began keying in the commands to open his attachments; sure enough there was the document that Bill had mentioned. Taking a padd off from the pile on his desk, he synced the two devices and began downloading.
An hour later he was standing in a room that was filled with the senior staff of Starbase 47, the Nevada, the Vesuvius and the delegation from Starbase Assailant. Sonak had been unable to join the hastily arranged gathering, due to her confinement, but Drew had instructed that she be allowed to watch a holo transmission in her quarters. That holo transmission was also being transmitted to the whole of Section 47.
Standing at the podium that had been set up, Drew, flanked by Magellan, called for silence. He then activated the padd before and began to read:
“Admiral Paul Drew, you are hereby requested and required to assume full command and supervision of Section 47 effective immediately. Upon assuming this assignment, you will also be promoted to the rank of Section Admiral and enjoy all the privileges of that rank.
Signed Commander in Chief of Starfleet William Bailey, Stardate 94.1122.”
There was a moment of shocked silence, and then the gathered audience began to clap. Drew thanked them, told them all that he would be making further statements later, at a more appropriate time and stood down from the podium.
Magellan followed Drew down from the podium and said in a whisper: “I guess now you can stop calling me ‘sir’.”
Drew laughed, but then pulled Magellan to one side so that they could talk without anyone over hearing.
“A situation has developed with the USS Bartlet, the only ships close by are those here on SB47, as the Vesuvius cannot leave, I am going to take the Nevada out to deal with the situation.”
“I see,” Magellan replied slowly, “and what about here on SB47?”
“The C in C and I agree that you are capable of holding things together here, I am going to leave you in charge of the investigation and for now also in command of starbase.”
Magellan nodded his consent, albeit a reluctantly and asked when Drew and the Nevada would be leaving.
“As soon as I rally the troops,” Drew said, as he and Magellan walked back out into the crowd.
While Magellan mingled with the crowd, Drew rounded up the Nevada staffers present and asked them all to report back to the Nevada, with the sorry news that leave had been cancelled.

Aboard the USS Nevada
As Drew, now in his Section Admiral uniform, and Dan returned to the Nevada they found that the ship was already coming back to life. Following the announcement that the ship would be launching again, the junior staff had hurried back and began operations; the rumour was that Chief Engineer Littlewood had not even left Engineering in the first place.
“So what do we know about the Bartlet?” Dan asked as they made their way to the briefing room.
“An old Nebula class, assigned to routine duties,” Drew replied as they entered the turbolift, “with the current fleet shortages, it got reassigned to a First Contact mission, her CO is an old friend of mine, Ben Stevenson, reliable guy, not the greatest officer of all time, but dependable, someone who gets the job done.”
“Not someone then who would stay out of contact with command and whose ship would go missing unless there was a good reason,” Dan concluded as they reached the bridge and walked the short distance to the briefing.
“That’s what worries me,” Drew admitted as they walked into the briefing room and found the senior staff all gathered. Calling the meeting to order, Drew apologised for cutting short leave, thanked them all for returning so promptly, and then launched into the briefing.
“Seven days ago Starfleet Operations lost contact with the USS Bartlet during a First Contact mission. Our attempts at contacting the Bartlet have been unsuccessful and it is not showing up on any of our sensors, our mission is to find the Bartlet, re-establish communications and provide any necessary support.”
“I know we haven’t had much of an opportunity to recover from our last mission, so we may need to do a bit of a patch up job en route, we are going to be departing in just under two hours, so you don’t have much time to get supplies, do the best you can to get your staff and departments ready.
The staff nodded their understanding, Drew noticed that some of them were already discreetly working on their padds organising their people.
“Before we all get to work, does anyone have any questions?”

|Conference Room
Lucy looked around the table, her mind silently ticking off the crew that'd had their physical and the one or two yet to report in. And speaking of crew that'd hadn't reported, Section Admiral Drew entered with DanTrek at his side.

Looking at the padd in her hand, Dr. Grey read through the shift assignments, approved it and brought up the last sickbay report which consisted mostly of inventory lists.
“Before we all get to work, does anyone have any questions?”
Lucy leaned forward cupping the mug of hot coffee in both hands.
"Why would a crew go completely silent? Was there any kind of Mayday?"
<Drew/DanTrek>
"I can guess at any number of medical reasons but none of them would affect the entire complement of a starship."
<Anyone?>

"Why would a crew go completely silent? Was there any kind of Mayday?" Doctor Grey asked.
"No, there wasn't," Dan replied. "The Bartlet has simply ceased sending its regularly scheduled transmission to Command. As for why, that's what Command is sending us to find out."
"I can guess at any number of medical reasons but none of them would affect the entire complement of a starship."
"Yes, we're hoping its not that. If it is medical in nature, that would mean it would have acted fast enough that they couldn't get a distress signal out. And anything that took out the crew that swiftly would be very dangerous indeed."

Tristan knew that meant working the engineering staff pretty hard, the ship was in fairly good condition but as always there was stuff to be done, and without a stop at a starbase it made the work a little harder.
Tristan looked down at the PADD in his hand a looked at the staff roster, Tristan began by increasing all duty shifts by an hour and his own duty shifts by two hours. Tristan had learnt enough to know the Chief Engineer should do more work than any under him it set a good example.
He had spent most of the last couple of days in Engineering hardly coming out, he hoped non of the other senior staff noticed especially the doctor or Counsellor, they usually had a habit of ordering him to take time out.
“Before we all get to work, does anyone have any questions?”
Doctor Grey began and Tristan only half listened.
He raised his hands to his eyes to re-adjust his glasses but quickly remembered they were no longer there. A pang of sadness went through him he had felt like he had lost a part of himself, as silly as it sounded.
“Admiral I suggest we keep under warp six point five we still need to complete a few repairs and I don’t want to push the core harder than we need too, The repairs on major systems should take fifteen hours…. And I mean actual hours not Engineers hours”
Tristan had never approved of the practice of doubling repair times he found that if he did that it usually ended up backfiring on him.

Drew nodded his agreement at Dan’s reply to Lucy’s questions, then looked across at Tristan as the Engineer began to talk. While the idea of travelling at a low speed and repairing the ship all en route to an important mission was not an ideal situation in Drew’s book, he had to accept that sometimes there was no choice, especially when shipping out as quickly as this.
“OK Chief,” Drew responded, “you can have 15 hours, although not a second over.”
When no one else had any questions, Drew dismissed the meeting. In stages the senior staff began to leave the room, Drew noticed that Lucy and Sarlina were leaving together discussing something in whispers, both throwing quick looks at Dan Trek and then whispering further. The First Officer had only very recently completed his surgery and it was fairly well known amongst the staff that both the doctor and counsellor were worried about him. He had, however, been declared fit for duty and so like the rest of the staff left the room for his station.
Drew stayed in the conference a little longer and looked out at the stars. He had been hoping that he would be able to spend some time with his daughter and newly born grandson, who were now living on one of the nearby colonies, but once again duty stopped any opportunity for family time.
Readjusting his uniform, and telling himself not for the first time that he was becoming a sentimental old fool, he picked up his padd from the desk and followed the others out of the room and onto the bridge, which was now fully crewed.
“What’s our status Dan?” he asked as he took his place in the centre of the bridge.
“Departments are starting to report in, we seem to be on schedule to depart in an hour and half.”
“Good,” Drew replied as he reviewed the report padd that Dan had offered him, “the sooner we can go searching for the Bartlet the better.”
“Agreed,” Dan answered, “I have already told Commander Park to start preparing rescue plans for a number of scenarios, he should be ready to brief us before we leave.”
“Forward thinking,” Drew smiled, “by the way, I think our good Doctor and Counsellor will want to be seeing you sometime soon…”
Dan let at a deep sigh with that suggestion, while Drew just carried on smiling as he asked Seth for a full ship report.

“OK Chief,” Drew responded, “you can have 15 hours, although not a second over.”
Tristan nodded and continued working on the PADD in front of him, something made Tristan feel like that, if he was still working on the repairs in fifteen hours and two seconds, someone would be on the comm. Channel complaining about it.
Admiral Drew dismissed the staff and Tristan quickly stood up and rushed out of the room. On the way back to Engineering Tristan only looked up from the PADD to make sure he wasn’t about to walk into a bulkhead
As he entered he looked up and sighed the sight wasn’t an Chief Engineers dream, there was panels open with isolinear chips being replaced, some control panels were not even working.
Tristan walked over to the main engineering control panel and took a moment to study the display, Even though engineering looked like a bomb had hit it the display revealed it was not as bad as it looked. Tristan sighed in relief as he turned and began giving people their assignments, most of the crew responded to their assignments with sad faces upset that their R and R plans had been interrupted.
But never the less his team got to work with Tristan working on the warp drive itself. If he managed to get a bulk of the work done before the ship was due to depart, he may be able to give Admiral Drew warp seven point five. He had not mentioned that possibility in the briefing in case he could not manage to get it done.

Commander Jon Park returned to the Nevada from the star base and was on his way to his office. Jon saw a lot of the ship was still in need of repair and wondered what would have the leave Space Dock so soon. As he reached the Turbo lift on Deck 7 said. "Deck 15" then his com badge chirped All Senior officers to the briefing room. Jon said "Computer belay last order reroute to the Bridge." The computer stopped for a moment then changed direction for the bridge.
Jon entered the Briefing room late and saw there Co Drew in his new Section Admiral Uniform and stood by the door since the admiral was specking.
“Seven days ago Star fleet Operations lost contact with the USS Bartlet during a First Contact mission. Our attempts at contacting the Bartlet have been unsuccessful and it is not showing up on any of our sensors, our mission is to find the Bartlet, re-establish communications and provide any necessary support.”
“I know we haven’t had much of an opportunity to recover from our last mission, so we may need to do a bit of a patch up job en route, we are going to be departing in just under two hours, so you don’t have much time to get supplies, do the best you can to get your staff and departments ready."
Jon was already thinking on why the Bartlet sounded familiar the he missed the Admirals last question. Since the meeting was adjourned he said nothing but knew he would have to talk to Drew and Trek he may have a conflict on this mission not one that would hurt him or the crew but the commanding officer may want to know about it.
Jon watched as Drew and Trek left and he figured the briefing would be when he would tell them. Heading into the turbo lift he went to his office and thought of what he can do and ran a few scenarios one if they needed to board the Bartlet if it was still in one piece, Two a urban city like scenario and three a country scenario all said that the teams would be successful but Jon wasn't sure the second best security chief in star fleet was on that ship and she knew his tactic better then anyone and she should it was his ex girlfriend and she was engaged to him for a short time.
Jon Knew that no one in command nor did there service record reflect the relationship they had but he never thought he would see her again after the way they broke up. However they had a surprise going in the crew of the Bartlet had no idea what ship Star fleet would be sending so he had a few days to work up a plain. "Computer Download scenario's Alpha, Beta, and Gamma on to Security padd alpha one." The computer replied "Download Complete" Jon tapped his com badge =/\="Park to Commander Trek. Are you and the Admiral ready for my briefing?"

No questions sprung to Seth's mind when Admiral Drew asked if there were any. He leant forward, twiddling his thumbs a little, waiting for the Admiral to dismiss them. Not because he wanted it to leave, but just because there was nothing else to think about. Of course, there was the mission, find the USS Bartlet. But it was difficult to think about, difficult to theorise on, when nothing at all was known about the ship's situation. Any theories would be pure speculation, therefore pointless until they were in sensor range of the planet.
Questions were asked by some of the other senior staff. Seth scanned all of them gathered around the table. Littlewood asked a question. It pleased Seth to see Littlewood again, and that was Commander Littlewood. Seth had not seen him since before he began his leave of absence, he had certainly advanced up the ranks quickly, and had long since surpassed Seth.
Eventually they were all dismissed. Seth checked by his quarters before resuming his station on the bridge. He had started his shift extra early that morning, wanting to get a few things in order before his shift started in proper. The Operations officer was now assured that his department was in excellent shape to report the ship's level of readiness.
Seth dragged his feet through the pile of clothes lying on the floor. He had found time to be short of late, the ship was being rushed back out of Starbase 47, Seth had barely had time to settle back in. Thus most of his posessions were not stored away, and had simply been dumped on the nearest clear space of floor that he could find for them. And those were not many in Seth's quarters. After getting a few things in order, changing into an entirely new and cleaner uniform, shaving (for the first time in two weeks) and hastily grabbing a few padds detailing departmental data and duty rosters, Seth made his way back to the Nevada's bridge.
On the way, he encountered Lieutenant Hasak and Crewman Bovois, two of his staff. That was convenient, he had been hoping to find either or both of them to trade off last minute reports on the state of the ship before having to make final departure. "Good afternoon, sir," the two of them replied in unison. They stopped.
"Hasak, crewman," Seth nodded at them, and then with a padd in hand proceeded to fill them in on everything that needed to be done before, during and after departure, he checked them off on the padd as he said them. This was the kind of data that really should have been memorised. "Hasak, make sure you get these to the department heads, it details their ship resources allocation for the next week."
"Sir." Hasak replied, looking at the padds Seth had just given him.
"Weren't they meant to get to the dept heads yesterday?" Bovois asked, the flicker of a cheeky grin present on his face.
"Yes," Seth stated, shaking his head slightly. "It is tough running a department you know, much less having to help coordinate other ones." Bovois shook his head with a grin. Hasak smiled gently, and they continued walking.
Seth took the Ops station back from Ensign Wood who moved to Mission Ops, and began running his checks. Five minutes later Admiral Drew entered the bridge, and addressed Commander Trek. They spoke lightly on the subject of what Seth supposed was the mission (he was not sure as he was only half-listening). Despite the activity on the bridge being only background noise to the COO, he could pick up on the relaxed atmosphere being exhibited by the bridge crew.
Drew asked Seth for a status report. Seth looked up from his console behind and to the left of the command arena. "With the exception of engineering, all departments report full readiness for warp speed, Section Admiral," Seth reported. "Or whatever Commander Littlewood will give us in the way of engine power." The COO was not normally a dry person when it came to reports.. maybe it was one of those days.

“Forward thinking,” Drew smiled, “by the way, I think our good Doctor and Counsellor will want to be seeing you sometime soon…”
Dan sighed. Just another reminder that he was less than at his prime. Dan was amazed that the Admiral had kept him on at First Officer, especially given his promotion to Section Admiral. An aging officer, in increasingly poor health, he half-expected to get dumped off at Starbase 47. Perhaps if he expressed his concerns to the Admiral, he might reconsider what was best for the ship.
=/\="Park to Commander Trek. Are you and the Admiral ready for my briefing?" =/\=
Dan looked over at Drew. After Drew nodded, Dan replied. =/\= Yes, we are. Meet us in the Ready Room in five minutes. =/\=
"Well then," Drew said. "Shall we?"
Dan nodded, the two stood and retreated from the Bridge. "Mr. Helacaan, keep us posted," Dan said, as the two command officers disappeared into the Ready Room.
While they waited for Park, Drew motioned for Dan to take a seat. After doing so, Dan said, "Admiral, there's something I feel we should discuss."
"Yes, Commander?"
Just then, the door chime with off. "Never mind. Later," Dan said. "Enter."
Park entered, and Dan said, "Thank you for being so prompt, Commander. I believe you have some contingency plans to present?"

“I think Commander Littlewood would rather we never engaged the warp drive,” Drew joked after Seth’s report, “that warp drive is his baby.”
While Jon’s call came through reporting that he was ready to begin the briefing, Drew sent a text communiqué to sickbay asking Lucy to meet him in the ready room afterwards. That done, he rose from his chair and began to led the way to his office. As he went, he called out one final instruction for Seth.
“The bridge is yours Lieutenant; we cannot afford to wait around much longer, so take us out of space dock as soon as you feel ready, even if we have to go on impulse for the start.”
As the ready room doors closed behind him, he heard Seth call out in the affirmative as the Ops Officer moved to take the command chair and begin preparations to move out.
Taking a seat behind his desk, Drew noticed for the first time that Dan had a very serious look on his face and seemed to be rather uncomfortable. The First Officer was about to tell Drew what was bothering him, but was interrupted by Jon arriving.
The Chief Security Officer was carrying a number of padds and a portable display screen. As Jon began setting up for his presentation, Drew watched Dan carefully. It was clear to him now that there was something bothering his Exec, which was part of the reason that he had asked Lucy to come see him later. He was worried that Dan was still not fully recovered.
These thoughts were momentarily put to one side however when Jon cleared his voice and began his report.

Counselor Vise and Dr. Grey had walked out of the conference together not entirely by design but nevertheless convenient. Their whispered conversation had centered around the XO's feelings of... well, to put it bluntly, age and being "past his prime". He was old for a human but not for a Djzxx.
"Sarlina," Lucy said as they entered sickbay, "Dan has had a rough time occasionally. But he's hardly old."
<Vise>
"I'm turning him over into your care. What's wrong with his eyes has been repaired. They're healing quite nicely. In my opinion, what he really needs is the kind company of a woman which I don't think he'll agree to. His wife died in childbirth, you know. Their 27th or 30th child. Something like that." Lucy took a deep breath. "I'm glad I'm human and have those kinds of choices."
<Vise>
"Okay, I'll pull everything relevant from his file and send it to your terminal. Three or four sessions and he might start perking up."
<Vise>
Dr. Grey turned around just in time to be handed three padds.
"Inventory, doctor," Nurse Lisa Story said, "most everything is still in storage. Permission to take a team to have what we need brought up?"
"Granted." Lucy scrolled the padd's data into a rolling stream. "We were able to get everything we requested?" she asked.
"Everything," Lisa responded. "Surprised me too, but having a section admiral as our CO gives us a bit of pull in the quartermaster's office."
Laughing lightly, Lucy handed Lisa back one of the padds, keeping two of them. They were patient's charts that needed her approval for treatment. One she immediately sent on to Sarlina and the other she decided to give more attention to.
As soon as she entered her office, Lucy brought up a message from the admiral requesting her presence in the ready room. Replying in the affirmative, Lucy went through her work, organized everything into three stacks and headed for deck one.

Jon turned the Portable screen on and set it to a picture of the planet. " I have come up with three possible scenarios for when we reach the planet." Jon started knowing he had given them both a detailed padd they could review later. "In the case that the Bartlet isn't destroyed i have come up with scenario one where we may have to attack a Star Fleet vessel." The look on Trek and Drew's face told Jon a little more then they meant it too. Jon continued "in that case we would disable the ship and have Lt.Commander Thomas and Captain marks board and take control of the ship. As my self and Commander Selfer conducted a ground Mission.
As they both listened to him he continued "now scenario number two is the Bartlet is destroyed and they are held up in an urban city like area Beta team has two Urban tactical members so they would go in as lead team with Alpha as back up." Jon kept moving along and was dreading to inform them of the last part of the briefing
"Finally scenario three again the Bartlet is destroyed however they have set up in a more county like area open Fields and hills where it is more likely we will take on wounded. The marines would take lead on this part with Gamma as back up."
Jon turned the screen off and turned to take a sea. "Now sir's there is one more thing but i would like it off the record. About 5 years ago i was dating and engaged to the CSTO on the Bartlet Lt.Commander Anna Maris. Now we endnd our engagement peacefully, However i believe you should be aware of this. It will in no way affect my judgment on this mission. I will run the mission from the ship and turn all away missions to Commander Thomas unless you order me other wise."
Looking at his Commanding Officers he waited for there response.

"What do you suggest we do?" Sarlina looked around at the familiar sights of sickbay. "You've known him for longer than I have."
"I'm turning him over into your care. What's wrong with his eyes has been repaired. They're healing quite nicely. In my opinion, what he really needs is the kind company of a woman which I don't think he'll agree to. His wife died in childbirth, you know. Their 27th or 30th child. Something like that. I'm glad I'm human and have those kinds of choices."
Sarlina struggled to hide her shock. 30 children? She'd always taken some of the Trill benefits for granted. Of course, other species might consider the symbiont weird. Different species had different customs.
"If I'm going to start having counseling sessions with him, it would help to have that kind of information. Knowing what to say and what to avoid saying. History... things like that."
"Okay, I'll pull everything relevant from his file and send it to your terminal. Three or four sessions and he might start perking up."
One of the nurses handed pads to Dr. Grey, and Sarlina headed out of the sickbay. She'd need to start preparing for her sessions with Dan.

"The bridge is yours Lieutenant;"
Seth turned sharply to the side to look at Drew as the latter made his way to the conference room. Drew seemed to know that Seth had turned to look even though he kept his eyes fixed on the conference room door that he was approaching.
"We cannot afford to wait around much longer, so take us out of space dock as soon as you feel ready, even if we have to go on impulse for the start."
Frantic protests tried to escape Seth's throat, but not only was it too late as Drew had left the bridge, it was also improper for a junior Lieutenant to attempt to deny the Section Admiral of Section 47. Pinning his lips shut, Seth slowly made his way around the metal rail separating the back of the bridge from the command arena and began to sit down, very tentatively, in the command chair. Officers looked his way as he sat, but only for a second. They soon returned their gazes to their consoles. Seth cleared his throat loudly, and finally sat down rather quickly into the seat last warmed by Admiral Drew.
"Err," Seth started, clearing his throat again and chuckling a little to the amusement of the bridge staff. Deciding that it was best to start with what he knew, Seth twisted around to see who was manning Ops now. "Uhh.."
"Ops," he said eventually, not remembering the crewman's name, "Check with engineering, has Commander Littlewood readied the warp engines in any capacity?"
The crewman took a second to look, "Negative, we're impulse only."
That was something at least, Seth did not wish to be held accountable for the failure of the warp engines if they had used them. It would be a fine way to end his Starfleet career, if he did decide to quit soon. Quickly he steered his thoughts away from that, it was not the time or the place, and it was a premature thought anyhow. The Wezean would have to wait and see how this mission unfolded before making any decisions.
"Very well," he said slowly, "Helm, when you are ready, move us out, quarter impulse power. Ops, clear our departure with the Dockmaster and the Chief of Base Operations." With his instructions given, Seth stared pensively forward at the viewscreen (which displayed part of the dock of Starbase 47 on the left, and open space on the right), and hoped silently that he had not forgotten anything...
Gradually, the USS Nevada-B made her way out of her mooring. The lights of Starbase 47 reflected off her glistening hull as she picked up speed, and began her trek back out to the stars.

It was with increasing alarm that Drew listened to Jon’s briefing. The idea of having to attack a fellow Starfleet ship was not appealing to him nor was the idea of finding the Bartlet itself destroyed and the crew scattered on an pre-warp civilisation planet. However, it was true to say that Security Officers had a tendency to always expect the worse, it was still entirely possible their was an innocent explanation for the Bartlet’s disappearance, although Jon did appear to have missed important “what if” as to what might have happened.
“What about if the ship has been captured?” Drew asked leaning forward in his seat, “hostile forces could have taken the ship and done who knows what to the crew.”
<Jon>
Satisfied with the Commander’s answer, Drew moved to address the next point of Jon’s briefing – his past relationship. Drew thanked him for the information and added that he trusted Jon’s judgement completely and was certain that the Security Chief would be able to carry out his duty to the best of his abilities.
The briefing finished, Drew asked Jon to return to the bridge and prepare for any one of the scenarios he had described and asked Dan to go to Engineering to check on Commander Littlewoods progress. It had not escaped his attention that while the Nevada had left spacedock, she was still moving along slowly at impulse speed.
As Dan walked away from the desk, Drew sent a message to Seth congratulating him on a successful departure from Starbase and asking him to continue to mind the store until he returned to the bridge later on. When Dan had left, and Drew was alone, the Admiral again tapped his comm badge and asked Lucy to make her way up to the ready room, informing her over the comm channel that he was worried about Commander Trek.

There was only a split-second's hesitation in following the Admiral's orders to check on Engineering. He had wanted to voice his concerns to the Admiral, but orders were orders. There was already enough of a question in Dan's mind about him being unfit for his command position, without putting that same question in his CO's mind by showing reluctance to follow orders.
Engineering; his second soul mate, after his deceased wife. It was where he belonged, and where he really ever wanted to be. After his travesty and shame among his own race, he found returning to his former career as an engineer to be refreshingly simpler. He had accepted command positions because that was where he was needed. Try as he may to return to being just an engineer, he always found his way back into command positions somehow.
As he entered the Engine Room and sought out Commander Littlewood, he couldn't help a pattern emerging. One engineer would look over and spot him, turn and whisper to the nearest colleague, and the two would then both look at him. His reputation usually preceded him in Engine Rooms. But then, most ships he served on in a command position he had served as the Chief Engineer first, and therefore he knew everyone present very well. The Nevada was different in that respect, so it made the pattern even more significant.
After a few moments he found Commander Littlewood, in the middle of it all, directing his engineers like the queen bee of a beehive. Dan knew the feeling; the same observation had been made about him in years past.
"Commander Littlewood," Dan said, approaching the Chief Engineer. "Status report?"

|Captain's Ready Room
She knew her suggestion to the counselor about Dan visiting a starbase wouldn't be taken seriously. So, the next best thing was to voice her recommendations to the current CO of the Nevada: Admiral Drew.
Stepping toward the door, Lucy pressed the chime and was rewarded with a loud but muffled "Come!"
Inside, Lucy took in the refreshing smell of a newly cleaned office. His desk was clean of debris, a mug to his left on the desk. She couldn't tell if it had been pushed away or simply forgotten. Following the wave of his hand, Dr. Grey walked over to stand beside the chair and leaned forward to place a padd in front on him.
"DanTrek's charting, sir." Turning the arm of the chair around, Lucy sat down, remaining on the forward part of it.
"Stress, mostly," she continued without waiting for questions. "Sir, I think between his age and the fact that he's almost always put in command positions rather than being assigned to engineering is the primary issues. I've turned everything over to Sarlina. If anyone can get to the bottom of it, she can."
<Drew>
"Physically, he's passed all the standard tests we give him. His hand is a hologram, as you know. But he's able to keep it under control. His eyes are healing well. There is nothing wrong with him for his species. I don't have any suggestions other than those I've given the counselor."

Jon hadn't thought of the ship being captured. "You right sir. If that is the case then of course reclaiming the ship is a priority. I will take that in to account when i make a battle tactic."
Jon left the officers when he was told to get started and walked on to the bridge."=/\= Park to all Security heads meeting in my office at 1400. Captain Marks i would like you there as well." Looking at the terminal by the briefing room doors he saw it was 1230 so it gave him some time to look things over and her looked at tactical and saw the an officer we just had come on was at tactical and i want over and he saw him coming and steeped back thinking jon was going to take the console. "As you were...." Jon looked at the uniform collar. "Ensign." He added. just to see how on the ball he was Jon asked him for a report.
The young officer reported the ship was on impulse with engineering working on getting warp on line. all decks report no security reports and updates are being reported to the bridges on an hourly time table as her had as a standing order. one thing was a personal communique that was waiting for him from star fleet command it was sent to his computer since he was in with the captain and commander. "Thank you Ensign good work." Jon turned and left the bridge. "Deck 15" Jon ordered and the lift took him down to his office.
Jon entered his office and tapped the door control locking the door so only commander Thomas could enter with out permission. Seeing his terminal blinking he walked to it and tapped in he security code and the screen flashed there stood Vice admiral Janeway and his mother. ~"Ah great this can't be good"~ Jon thought.

Tristan had been working hard trying to get the warp drive to the best condition he could get it.
He stood in the middle of engineering with hos staff handing him diagnostic PADDs and expecting him to have the answers to all the problems. He had hardly seen the outside of Engineering in a few days and was beginning to feel the effects of deep fatigue.
He rubbed his eyes and was startled by the voice that came from behind him.
"Commander Littlewood," Dan said, approaching the Chief Engineer. "Status report?"
“You will have my report when I am ready.” He said in an annoyed voice before turning around and saying.
“Oh Commander Trek I apologise… You can have Warp 7.5 now we can leave whenever your ready.”
Tristan looked back down at the PADDs in his hand and grunted in heavy annoyance, the irregularity in the plasma flow was still there no matter what he had his engineers try it was still there mocking him.
Tristan looked back up and looked around the room before he saw the person he was looking for.
“Hey Melendez.. take a look at this.”
Melendez too the PADD and nodded before looking back up at Tristan.
“It has been that way for a while Chief.”
Tristan shook his head before saying.
“Well get on it, I want that Plasma flow as efficient as possible asap.”
Tristan turned and saw Commander Trek still stood there,
“Was there something else Commander?”

“Oh Commander Trek I apologise… You can have Warp 7.5 now we can leave whenever your ready.”
Dan was a little surprised at how quickly Littlewood redirected his attention away from his superior, but brushed that off.
"Commander Trek to Bridge."
"Helacaan here, sir."
"We have warp available now. Please take us to Warp 7.5."
<Seth>
After getting off with Helacaan, Dan looked around at the buzz of activity around Engineering, part of him wishing he could get back into it.
“Was there something else Commander?” Littlewood asked, noticing that Dan was still there.
"Come to think of it, there is," Dan said. "I know we shoved off again without giving you a decent chance to make repairs. So is there anything I can do to help you out? I spent my career as an engineer before getting into Command."

“Then let us hope that she can help him,” Drew said once Lucy had finished her assessment of Dan Trek. There was now no doubt that Dan was physically fit, his surgery had been successful and he had recovered well, he just now had to overcome his own demons, whatever they may be.
“How about the rest of the crew?” Drew asked, placing down the padd Lucy had given him and catching a glimpse of the tea cup that he had forgotten about.
<Lucy>
“Cancelling shore leave is never something I enjoy,” Drew replied, “I know it’s a cliché, but we really were the only ship in range.”
As Lucy began to reply, Drew felt a very small shift in the vibrations of the deck plating and a tiny increase in the engine noise. A quick look at the window confirmed what his senses had already told him, the Nevada had at last entered warp speed.
Concluding the meeting with Lucy, Drew returned to the bridge, which now that the ship had cleared spacedock and was on course for its destination was slightly less busy than when Drew had left. As Seth vacated the command chair, Drew gave him a small nod of encouragement, calling up a quick status report from his console he saw that the ship was now at factor 7.5, with strict instructions from Engineering not to go any faster. Thankfully that would not be too much of a problem, even at 7.5 they would reach the Bartlet’s last known location in just a few hours. In fact, it probably would not be long before their long range sensors would be able to start reaching that area of space, Drew said as much to Seth, and asked him to begin scans as soon as he was able, not just to search for any trace of the Bartlet, but also for any hostile vessels in the area.
The ship fully prepared for whatever might happen, the only real thing that Drew could do now was sit and wait for them to arrive. Then the truly difficult part of this mission would begin.

Tristan smiled, but he was somewhat surprised it wasn’t often bridge crew offered to help.
“Of course Commander, your welcome to help out anytime.”
Tristan lifted up one of the PADDs in his hand and handed it to Commander trek.
“As you can see the power flow to deck six is giving us some trouble, if you wouldn’t mind helping me with it I can leave the others in their current assignments.”
<tag Trek>
Tristan handed the rest of the PADDs in his hand off to the closest engineer.
‘I am going to be in the Jefferies tubes for a while, give me a shout if you have any trouble.”
Tristan grabbed two engineering kits and handed one to Commander Trek and smiled as he said.
“Ready to get your hands dirty sir?”
Tristan and Commander Trek crawled into the Jefferies tube that housed one of the main power shunts and began their work.

Admiral Drew chose to let Seth keep the bridge for a while. Seth was sure he was up to it, but that did not keep him from feeling the trepidation. Though he did wonder, briefly, why the Admiral had not in fact handed the bridge over to Commander Park. Seth had remained sitting, he twisted around to look at the tactical console, and it became apparent that Park was very busy. Indeed, not long after Drew had left the bridge had Park left the bridge for what seemed to be a tactical briefing.
Despite his reservations, Seth was starting to get comfortable in the CO's chair. He toyed with the side-panel on the armrest for a while, I could get used to this, he thought to himself, smiling at the dryness with how he was thinking it.
Before he could relax too much however... "Commander Trek to Bridge."
Seth responded immediately, pressing the appropriate button on the side-panel of the chair. "We have warp available now," Trek reported from what must have been engineering, "Please take us to Warp 7.5."
"At once, sir," Seth replied orderly. He closed the channel and gave the appropriate orders to the helmsman, who promptly jumped the ship into warp. The illusion of a starfield appeared on the viewscreen, confirming that the Nevada was now at warp and proceeding to the last known location of the USS Bartlet.
They are sure to be surprised at the sight of the Section Flagship, Seth thought, That was if they found them, of course. At that moment Admiral Drew and Doctor Grey exited the CO's ready room and entered on to the floor of the bridge. Grey made her way to the turbolift, Drew made his way to the command chair. Seth promptly jumped out of the seat and returned to his standing position behind the Ops console, on the rear upper level of the bridge.
The Admiral suggested that Seth start long-range scans of the Bartlet's last known position. Seth happily obliged, although the command chair had been a welcome new experience, the fact of which had surprised the Nevada's COO, he was glad to return to the Ops station. Its recognisable workings and routines gave him the comfort of familiarity and belonging, at least in a small measure, something that had always been missing on this ship for him and would always be. Or so he would often think.
The long range sensors did not pick up on anything immediately and Seth reported this fact. The Nevada continued to close however, and the closer they got the more likely it was to start detecting things of significance.
And that was what happened. "I am detecting something," Seth reported neutrally, studying his console, "Close to the last known coordinates of the Bartlet. It may be a ship, I'm unable to ascertain whether or not is the Bartlet." He let the Admiral take the information in and waited for more information from the sensors, if it would come. However, nothing more was forthcoming for now.
"Having trouble getting a reading," Seth squinted at the console, his fingers furiously working faster than he thought capable, "Whatever it is, it's stationary, no discernable power signature, although that means nothing from this range."
<tag Drew>
They still had two and a half hours before they reached the coordinates, in which time Seth was sure more would be found out by the crew of the Nevada...

Drew raised an eyebrow as Seth reported his findings; he had no expected the sensors to pick anything up so quickly. Although it was far too early to be able to tell what they were seeing, or even to confirm if it was Bartlet, it did raise hope that they might be able to get the answers to their questions.
“Continue monitoring the area Lieutenant,” Drew ordered, “see if you can extend the range of the sensors and get a better reading of what we are looking at.”
As the bridge crew carried on working, Drew allowed himself to relax a little in his chair, his thoughts start to shift through past search and rescue missions that he had taken part in. Most of the time these missions ended in a positively, however, there were also more than a few when the outcome had not been so happy, with one mission in particular coming to mind.
It had been around twenty years ago when he was a newly promoted Commander on the South Carolina, just after the Dominion War had broken out. They had been sent to search for a transport ship that had vanished close to the boarder, they had picked up a distress call from an L Class planet, and Drew had been a member of the Away Team sent down to search for the source. He had been accompanied by two others, a green eared Ensign from the Academy and the ship’s Security Officer, a Betazoid female by the name of Lax.
While they had been searching through a forest they received a urgent communication from the South Carolina, a Dominion warship had entered the system and the ship was having to leave the ship. The Captain ordered Drew and the others to remain on the planet and continue the search, promising that they would return as soon as the Dominion had withdrawn.
Unfortunately, the Dominion beat the South Carolina to the planet, Drew and the others were captured and sent to a prison camp, where they had spent the reminder of the war. By the time Starfleet rescued them the Ensign had died and Drew and Lax had been tortured repeatedly by their captors. A close bond developed between the two, but while Drew had recovered fairly quickly from their ordeal, Lax had required much more extensive counselling before she had been able to return to duty, by which time Drew had joined Section 47 and was commanding the Fang.
When Lax returned to duty she progressed much slower up the chain of command than Drew had done and she had suffered a relapse about five years ago. At the time Drew had helped her find a new assignment, pushing for her to be returned to be made a First Officer. The ship that she had been assigned to was the Bartlet.
Now that friend who Drew had suffered with in his youth, and who he had tried to help recover their life was missing, possibly as a result of the very help that Drew had provided her with.
It had been this friendship that had given Drew confidence that Jon would not allow his own past relationship with a member of the Bartlet crew to cloud his decision making. Drew would be facing the same difficulties and knew that he would have to overcome them or risk further lives, perhaps even the lives of his crew.
Suddenly startled by a noise behind him, Drew was brought back to reality as he realised that Jon had in fact returned to the bridge and was asking for his attention.
“What can I do for you Commander?” Drew enquired.
