<This takes place on the Starbase but posting it here since she will be joining the ship after it gets back>
{Kayleighs Quarters, 5 am}
Kayleigh rolled over as the computer and the alarm assaulted her in tandem. It was time for her daily ritual, or what had become a ritual for her over the past 10 years. She pulled herself to a sitting position and ran a hand through her hair.
The only difference in the routine was she was no longer in college, nor at the Academy but on the Starbase Bellicose awaiting her new post aboard the USS Black Tulip. She'd received confirmation the night before about her assignment but wasn't going to let that change her routine.
She scooted to the edge of the bed and groaned as she lifted her body into the hover chair next to the bed. Time to get the show on the road. Kayleigh maneuvered the hover chair around her quarters and while the shower was warming she got herself a cup of tea and a croissant, settling the chair next to the small table in the corner.
Her schedule was slightly different than most of the others due to the fact she only had one leg and had to make allowances time-wise and in the way she got things done, but that never stopped her.
Her routine usually consisted of 45 minutes in her quarters from waking to being ready to hit the holodeck and an hour of calisthenics before heading for work, whatever that was for the day.
Kayleigh ate her croissant and sipped her tea while reading the PADD which held the stats on the Black Tulip and her crew. This day was the start of something new and different.

{Kayleighs Quarters, 6 am}
Kayleigh, now dressed in a light weigh sweatsuit, her cane tucked beside her as she manouvered the hover chair through the corridor heading for the holodeck. Anything she might need or think of needing tucked into a bag on the side of the chair. The crowds in the corridors and on the premanade not bad at this time of day which made getting around a lot easier.
The stares were a lot less now that she'd been on the starbase for a while and she knew this was just curiousity from those who had two feet and could get around on them. It was something she'd grown to understand and appreciate, her mind often wandering back in time to when she too could walk, run and play with the rest.
She manouvered to one of the starbases holodecks and tapped the console beside the door, which opened to admit her. She made sure to catch the holodeck early before the others on the station might need it because she liked her privacy and prefered to get the dirty work out of the way before heading off to whatever her day held for her.
Kayleigh entered the holodeck, the doors closing behind her and inserted the program disk she pulled from her pocket. The stark black and gold walls shifted and changed into what appeared to be a jungle of sorts, large trees, with vines hanging from them, the air heavy and damp.
"Time to get to work." she said outloud as she pulled herself to her feet and stepped away from the hoverchair, leaving the cane as well. This program didn't need her on her legs, only her arms and sheer will. With a glance at the chair by the arch she grabbed one of the vines and began pulling herself hand over hand upwards.

{Half an hour later}
Kayleigh settled back on the branch high above the ground. She was drenched in sweat and had a few scratches and bruises which would show for a day or two but nothing major. Overall she felt great. She lay her head back and stare through the treetops at the sun above. The workout had been worth the pain she knew she'd feel but this was one thing she never complained about. Knowing it was necessary for her to do to keep her strength up and keep physically fit.
As a starfleet officer she had to be able to handle many situations and as a physically challenged one she had to make sure she was even more ready than most. Most of the time she didn't use her hoverchair so needed to have the strength in her upper body maxed out. She had a cane as well as crutches but used the cane most of the time. Only showing a slight limp and those who would not know of her lack of a limb would never suspect.
The computer reminded her she had a breakfast date in the starbase lounge .. well not so much a date a person but a date with food. Kayleigh rolled over and grabbed the vine which hang nearby, lowering herself to the ground. It took a few minutes to steady herself and gain her landlegs again after spending so long just hanging around by her arms.
{Back in her Quarters}
Kayleigh entered her quarters and quickly took another shower. This one was definately needed. Her stomach already grumbling in discomfort as she finished toweling off and getting dressed again, this time in an offduty uniform. She left her hoverchair in her quarters and started the trek to the lounge.

{Enroute to the lounge}
Kayleigh walked through the corridors and onto the promenade, her pace slow and measured, her step unfaltering. She passed a few others in her trek, smiling and nodding as she moved along.
She had left her cane and crutches back in her quarters, knowing that she would have to get used to not having them nearby. If she was going to function as part of the crew and not show any weakness they would have to remain in her quarters unless she absolutely needed them.
{At the lounge}
Kayleigh moved through the tables, heading for one near one of the windows overlooking the space docks. She sat and watched the ships being worked on below.
A waitress appeared at her elbow a short time later asking if she would like something to eat. Kayleigh thought for a few minutes and ordered a small salad and a cup of tea. As the waitress left she turned back to the window.

{At the lounge}
Kayleigh sat for a long time and nibbled on the salad once it arrived. Sure it wasn't your traditional breakfast food and it was still very early in the day but Kayleigh tended to eat smaller meals and more than the traditional three a day to keep her strength up.
She watched the worker bees float around the ship which was parked outside the window where she sat. It was amazing that they were so small and the ship they serviced was so large.
Kayleigh sat in the lounge for who knows how long, just watching the ships move to and fro, all various sizes and shapes. Each one having a specific purpose. Some shuttles, small transports, others larger starships which would dock and stay a while at the starbase.
She sipped the tea, propping her bum leg up on the chair opposite her. She wondered how much longer she'd have to wait till her ride arrived. She'd gotten the communique regarding what ship and what position she would have but not when it would arrive.
The ship was called the Black Tulip, it was an interesting name for a starship, she would have to research how it got its name and more about its crew later.

OOC: was waiting for the new mission to begin posting. In case you thought I wasn't coming I decided to post here.
Singh sat on the side of his bed, which wasn't in itself unusual, but the bed was. He had not been waiting here at SBC for a long time, but was eager to see what was so important about this new ship. The Black Tulip was only a sovereign class, it was not one of the more unique ship classes around, and yet soon after his thesis had been accepted and his PhD in Engineering Theory approved, he was whisked away from his research group and told he was to become the new CEO of the Black Tulip. Otherwise, all that had been mentioned was that he was particularly suited to the job and that the ship was a special one.
Singh slipped off the bed and wandered to the mirror. With practiced motions he wound a turban around his head and tucked the end away. It was the same colour as the engineering yellow so that people could identify his department from further away. His uniform was not as standard either. It had more pockets because of his engineering job and he generally found something to fill every one during the day. Two however were always filled. In one pocket he put his little LCARS uplink device and inanother he put his small everyday kirpan. Then, muttering a prayer he left his quarters.
He sought out the lounge which overlooked the docked starships. Spacedocks were always nice places to look at, people coming and going in small and big ships. The best spot for looking at the ships was already taken though, albeit by someone's foot. 'Mind if I sit here?' he asked The woman performed the usual half turn and then look down that most people managed with Singh. He didn't really understand why people had trouble listening to where his voice was actually coming from. Mostly they assumed an adult voice was coming from somewhere higher than it actually was. <Butari>

'Mind if I sit here?'
The voice pulled Kayleigh back to the here and now. She immediately placed her foot back on the floor and sat up.
“No .. no, please. Sit down.” she replied somewhat flustered. “I’m sorry, you caught me day dreaming I guess.”
Kayleigh held out her hand. “I’m Kayleigh Butari, soon to be medic on the Black Tulip. “ She sat back, resting her hands around the cup of now cold tea. The salad plate sitting on the table now empty.
She motioned to the ships outside the window. “Do you like watching them too?”

{Kayleighs Quarters the next morning}
She rose and went through her normal morning procedure. The comm beeping before she could leave her quarters for the holodeck.
Kayleigh checked the message and smiled. The Black Tulip was on her way back to the starbase, soon she would be on board and at her new post.
Instead of heading for the holodeck she chose to pack and make sure that everything was ready for her to depart the starbase when the time came.
This included making a last minute trip to the Starbases infirmary to visit with the doctor. Not that it was necessary but it would give her something to give to the CMO on the Black Tulip.
She realized that there were not many amputees who held a place on a Starbase, let alone in Starfleet itself.
Her morning was spent in the infirmary having the required physical and the necessary paperwork. Not that it mattered to her, what mattered was being ready to prove herself to her new crewmates when the time came.

'Do you like watching them too?' Butari asked. 'Who wouldn't?' Singh replied 'They're fantastic creations. My favourite right now is that one' He pointed precisely at a nebula class. 'Why that one?' she asked 'Such a strange but effecient design. It is more compressed than the Galaxy class it was the improvement on. All the other aspects of it are near identical to the Galaxy, aside from that ever so useful pod above the saucer which can be changed for different specialities. Most starbases stock a couple of variants just in case a Nebula drops in for a change over.' 'I mean why that one and not that one?' she pointed at a near identical one 'Well, there are a few reasons. It's probably an engineer thing' 'What are the reasons though?' 'Well the my current favourite has a more advanced sensor pod on the top. Also, it seems to have sustained some damage which means it occasionally vents warp plasma, but not enough to have it thrown out of drydock. Watch...' A minute spray of blue came out of one nacelle. Both watched it as the worker bees buzzed around trying to shut the flow down. 'And those little things are the third reason. The look just like real bees from here' 'You really like the ships, don't you?' 'Some I do, some I don't. I don't like the Prometheus class too much. Too complicated. Why have a ship that splits into three and needs all three parts when you could have three seperate Defiants with less risk?'
The next day, Singh found Butari in the infirmary having a physical done. When she came out, he handed her a PADD. 'What's this?' she asked 'It's about one of the crew of the Tulip. His name is Damion Jhukat and he has a false arm. Thought you might like to know since I noticed you have a false leg. You might have stories to share with each other.' 'Aren't crew filed encrypted?' 'Only when you don't have the know-how' Singh chuckled, tapping his nose 'It's not high level encryption and they really don't have enough interesting things to do on a starbase.' <Butari>
Singh wandered off. As he did, he pulled out a small device from one of his larger pockets and placed it on the floor. It was about four inches long, rectangular but with a jointed body and had eight legs. He pulled out another device and started fiddling with two little directional controls. The thing sped ahead and he walked after it, laughing at the people occasionally jumping out the way and the curious glances. He had wanted to test it for a long time. As it met a wall, it ran straight up and onto the ceiling. It was the prototype small scale design for a service robot he was working on. The real thing would have more gadgets too and be semi-intelligent. This was just the chassis test.

Kayleigh had just finished her physical and had stepped from the infirmary. Mr. Singh handing her a PADD and explaining what was on it. It wasn’t that she didn’t appreciate what he was trying to do but it made her feel uncomfortable knowing he’d hacked into files he had no right to be in.
She took the PADD and tucked it in the pack she wore about her middle. “Thank you Mr. Singh.” she said before moving back towards her quarters to finish packing and getting ready for when the ship arrived.
This took longer for her than it did for those who had two legs, she had to make sure that her hoverchair was in working order, as well as make sure she had two spare legs which were able to be used at a minutes notice if the one she had been using broke or something.
