Background:
Gaz first host, Kadzon Gaz was in the Star Fleet as a science officer; commander. This host is a library of experience to later hosts. Gaz's second host was Alexandria Gaz. She was mostly an inventor working with ways to make Trill and surrounding worlds more peaceful. Her memories give the ability to think clearly in most situations, however her emotions sometimes overwhelm the host at the same time. Being only half Trill, Jamey's father was from Earth, this gives Jamey fewer spots than most Trills. However, he was still born with an abdominal pouch that made it possible to accept a Symbiont and when he was 12 he went through the genetic testing that established the suitability for joining.
History
2390 Jamey Gaz (born on Trill in 2361): Jamey accepted the Gaz symbiont (Rite of Symbiosis - zhian'hutmil) when he was 18 years of age and then going to the Trill academy until he was 22. After the academy, the Symbiosis Commission investigated him the same year, sited with not obeying the accepted practice of accepting the symbionts last name. After much debate, and because his father meant so much to the commission, and the fact this was the first known half Trill and half Human host, this would be overlooked. However, Jamey was strongly encouraged to get this behind him and practice in the Trillian way. Later in his career he dropped the family sir name and took the Gaz name. Jamey decided to leave Trill a year later after what could be called harassment from the commission. His father left Trill to go back to Earth, where he would make great strides in delegations between Earth and Trill; Star Fleet awarded him with an honorary Ambassador Rating Four. His mother remained on Trill working in the Commission, as her family line was telepathic, until she and her husband retired spending time on both of their home worlds.
Jamey went to DS9 where he found work as a pilot for a cargo transport company, working as a neutral pilot whenever he could and siding with the Federation when flight restrictions were imposed. There he learned from the best of the best when it came to shade tree (Earth slang) Engineering. Tactical was practiced and achieved by one simple rule, stay alive. Most of his earnings were sent back to Trill in an account that was monitored by the Commission; Jamey often reported that he never knew why, but they never confiscated any monies form that account. Because the Commission was a powerful influence, the account was very safe. After persuasion from Jadzia Dax before her death, Jamey left to enroll in Star Fleet Academy. Jamey was never known to be evolved with the Dominion War, however records were not of importance to most cargo transport companies; Jamey did however have several run-ins with Dominion fighters. Officers on DS9 were always impressed by his ability to out think the Dominion, even when his transport was out-classed. Jamey always made a full report to DS9 after each confrontation even though it was not required much to the annoyance to his cargo boss.
Jamey keeps in touch with his parents and Alexandria's (second host) children on Trill. Jamey finds it very interesting that he has memories of being a mother. He also finds it very comforting. All of her children have accepted the fact that at least part of their mother is now in a male host, but also finds it comforting that they can communicate with Jamey about their childhood and their mother's memories. Jamey does not keep in contact with Alexandria's husband as per a Trill prohibition known as re-association, a retrograde link strictly forbidden by the Symbiosis Commission.
History of past hosts:
In 2253 Kadzon Gaz was seriously injured during an explosion on Earth. The Gaz Symbiant was sent to Trill in what people on Earth would call a comma. If it was not for new and determined doctor by the name of Leonard H. McCoy aboard the newly commissioned NCC-1701 that made the trip to Trill, Gaz would not have survived. Kadzon was killed due to his massive injuries from the blast. The Symbiosis Commission, also responsible for the health of Symbiants, used a Trill volunteer to host Gaz down a long road to health. It was not until 57 years later that Gaz was allowed to be reintroduced into joining in a normal Rite of Symbiosis with Alexandra. The host that held Gaz for that 57 year period was not allowed to interconnect with the host, simply carry the symbiant. This was due to the large extent of damage caused by the accident. Because of this, memories from that 57 year span are not present, however during Alexandra's Rite of closure (zhian'tara) she remembered another presence during the ceremony. She never reported this to the Symbiosis Commission.
Approx. 2310 - Alexandria Gaz: Alexandra was a female Trill who was joined when she was 13, a very early age for a joining. However, she was no ordinary girl. She exhibited much promise very early on during her child hood. Both of her parents were joined and both lived on Trill as a Scientist and an Engineer. She grew up in a world full of support and encouragement. Alexandra wanted to explore the Galaxy, but never found the time. Once she graduated from a very prestigious school, she joined an organization on Trill dedicated to the advancement of Trill technology and peace where she became an inventor. She has several well known inventions to her name. Alexandra married a joined male and they had three children, two boys and a girl. All now reside on Trill, with children of their own, following in their mother's example. They keep in touch with Gaz on a limited but consistent basis.
Alexandra was untimely killed on-board a transport from one Trill continent to another, one reason that after joining, Jamey gravitated toward piloting. The Gaz symbiont was not hurt although it spent a few years in the underground pools at the Caves of Mak'ala before rejoining.
(Jamey Gaz has approximately 160 years of memories and experience due to joining.)
