Appearance: Slight/Lean Build. Mousey Coloured Hair. Thin Oval face with blue eyes. Height: 5ft9.
Background :
Only son of Raynard and Ary Riva, Irrigation Engineers for five provinces on the southern continent of the Trill Homeworld.
At 14 Magellan visited the Caves of Mak'ala and was so amazed by the Symbiont Pools he decide that he wanted to become joined.
When he turned 18 he entered university to study Interstellar Business Management and applied to the Initiate Program. His application was rejected on the grounds that he was too young. Magellan became unsettled at University and eventually dropped out. He spent several years working with his parents and studying temporal mechanics in his spare time before deciding, against his parent's wishes, to travel to Earth and join Starfleet.
On graduation Magellan missed most of his field training assignment when the Symbiosis Commission recalled him to Trill.
The Commission had followed his career since his initial application and now found him suitable for entry in to the Initiate Programme. He took a sabbatical from Starfleet and studied at the Commission. His field docent was Dr Lenera Khan, she was pleased with his progress and 3 weeks before his 21st birthday he was accepted by the Evaluation Board and joined to the Symbiont, Lin. After some integration counselling Magellan returned to active Starfleet duty and was assigned to liase with the Trill Defense Force.
He had several difficutlies with his CO and was held back from promotion eventually he was reassigned and posted to the USS Victory-A. As COO Magellan was taken under the wing of Lt.Cmdr Loujen and joined her as an Assistant in the Communication Corp. This additional duty on top of his regular commitments led him to show his superiors his flair and slowly he crept up the promotion ladder.
After several years on the Victory he was made XO by Commodore Locutis. Shortly after this the Victory was invloved in the discovery of a Gorn/Dominion Invasion of the Klingon Empire. During the Starfleet led taskforce to stop the invasion the USS Victory was destroyed.
A new Victory was quickly commissioned but on its first mission Fleet Admiral Locutis was severely injured and removed from active duty by an illegal experiment conducted by Dr Kavek a rogue scientist.
With Locutis incapacitated command was officially granted to Magellan and within a year he was Squadron Commander.
In 2389 Magellan was involved in a tricky first contact situation which lead to him being promoted to Commander of the First Fleet.
As Fleet Commander Magellan kept his Flag on the Victory and worked hard to develop the taskforce to a multipurpose fleet. In 2390 after serving 2 years as Cheif of Communications Magellan was offered a new challenge, to command a starbase and co-ordinate Starfleets most ambitious colony/terraforming project. He accepted and transferred his Fleet Flag to Starbase Assialant.
In the first year of his command of Assailant Magellan worked to consolidate cross species support to fund the terraforming project.
Early in 2390 when Ambassadors accidentally activated a reactor on the planet Magellan was forced to search out and find Dr Kavek the only one able to shut it down. Magellan came very close to killing Kavek but when the Debrune appeared to shut it down he locked him up instead.
The arrival of the Debrune shifts the balance of power in the sector and causes the Romulans to take more interest. Despite working closely with Ambassador Tedak (Romulan Diplomat) Magellan still finds it hard to trust any Romulan.
In 2391 Magellan has the terrible burden to decide to end the life of a sentient being in order to save the Starbase. Luckily the nascent intelligence is given a home on the computer and so far harbours no ill will to him despite the Admiral ordering an end to her corporeal existence. During the year he begins to experience greater problems with his symbiont and after a visit by Lenara Kahn and evidence that his mirror universe self had more hosts he begins to suspect Lin is hiding something.
At the end of 2391 Magellan is visited by Laurana, a Guardian. She tells him he does have more hosts and that he should return to Trill. Having noticed unusual activity with Trill in Starfleet Magellan agrees and with Jamey Gaz, Dr Mercy and T Val go to Trill. There Magellan helps uncover a plot to destory the planet by the Symbiosis Commission who had been infected by the Alien Parasite. During his time defending the Caves of Mak'ala from the infected staff he met the ancient symbionts who were able to re establish his link with Lin and allow him access to his lost hosts.
It transpired that Lin had been so traumatised by the deaths of his previous hosts and in particular Toya that he had withdrawn into himself. Magellan is now struggling to come to terms with his new identities.
In the mid-2390’s Magellan became heavily involved in the mediation of the Colonial War between the Tholians and Klingons. Starbase Assailant found itself on the frontlines and Magellan assisted by diplomatic staff were successful in keeping the Federation from being dragged into the war. Once Magellan was able to discover why the Tholians were building colonies in Federation and Klingon territories a peace was brokered.
In 2398 Magellan was brought into contact with his nemesis Dr Kavek. Kavek approached and with his dying breath left Laurana with an encrypted message for Magellan. She sped the message to Magellan with the aid of Ezedriana and Jamey Gaz. Magellan read the warning from his erstwhile enemy and immediately returned to Starbase 47 to meet with Section Admiral Drew. From this point on Magellan remained on Starbase 47 working on a secret project.
During early 2399 Magellan disobeyed orders to search for a missing Admiral Drew and help overcome an invasion by the mirror universe.
In June 2399 Magellan was given the unusual position of returning to active starship command and given a mission by Admiral Drew involving much of what had occurred over the past few years.

Magellan is a logical, scientific and ordered person. He is very efficient and methodical in his work. There is however some concern that he may experience some integration issues.
Magellan is the Symbiont Lins second host. The first was Toya Lin. Toya was a female Exo-ecologist serving on the Federation Council of Exo-Biology. Once their personalities merge Magellan has expressed less enthusiasm for temporal mechanics and has inherited many of Toyas technophobic tendancies.
2387: Suffered a serious Disruptor burn that for 36 hours disassociated Magellan from his symbiont. Emergency medical care rectified the problem but the symbiont is more sensitive to energy discharges now.
2388: Suffered a relapse of his technophobia whilst conducting an inspection tour of the USS Optimus
