Magellan listened to the results of Felix’s interrogation and nodded,
“I guess we should speak to Vebn. Commodore Falcone I suggest you return to the President and assure her that the incident is concluded we will handle it from here.”
Rita scowled but nodded and left with her staff.
“Okay lead on” Magellan suggested to Felix. They returned to the security office and arrived just as Ambassador s’Khellian emerged.
“Ah Admiral just the person. I must protest that one of my diplomats has been arrested in such a manner”
Magellan gave Felix a look suggesting he was in no mood for diplomatic dancing.
“Your diplomat kidnapped Elder Ji’zahn at gun point and held him captive.”
Vebn shrugged,
“That was unfortunate to say the least, perhaps we could continue this in private”
Magellan nodded in agreement and led Vebn and Felix in to a side office and closed the door. They each took a seat.
“Let me start by apologising for Tedaks actions, I will also submit a formal apology to the Debrune and Ji’Zahn” Vebn began.
“Lets cut through this Ambassador. You ordered Tedak to kidnap the Elder”
Vebn shook his head,
“I did no such thing. You and I both know that Tedak is more than capable of conducting a kidnapping. Had he really been trying I have no doubt that we would still be looking for Elder Ji’Zahn now”
Magellan acknowledged that there was much truth in that statement. Tedak had proved himself most capable on many occasions,
“That is true but perhaps he didn’t wish it to succeed” he suggested, “Perhaps in this way he got to oppose a command he didn’t agree with”
Vebn smiled, “There is much he and I disagree on save one thing – the interests of our people. We both want the best for them.”
“You didn’t answer the question.” Felix noted,
Vebn chuckled, “No I didn’t.” “Are you aware that it is a crime to distribute unregistered weapons or to threaten a persons family?” Felix pressed
Vebns face instantly clouded, he suddenly realised that Tedak not only intended to avoid his duty but to also incriminate him in the process, this was more like the Tedak he had expected.
“ I still have diplomatic immunity and so am immune from prosecution but I can assure you I did neither.” He looked at the sceptical looks on Magellan and Felix’s faces “I cannot disprove the weapon charge other than to say I dint give it to him, but I can the threats. I make it good practice to record my meetings with Tedak. The senate is distrustful of all her members and likes tabs to be kept…” He paused realising that to reveal the conversation with Tedak would not only vindicate him but also reveal that the Romulans were indeed supplying the Tholians and that he had ordered Tedak to disrupt the talks.
“Well?” Magellan pressed sensing that they were on the cusp of something important.
Vebn weighed his options once more and then withdrew a small oval device from his pocket. He paused again and then activated a switch.
“This is a sound recorder. I use it when dealing with people I do not trust. Standard practice”
“For Romulans maybe” Felix quipped
Vebn ignored the comment, “What I reveal now contains certain evidence that I had not wished to reveal and believe it would be detrimental to many foreign powers if it came to light especially given people do not know the full facts. All I ask is that you consider what I reveal here. I m sure your computer can verify its authenticity."
Magellan looked at the device, “Okay. We will bear that in mind. Play the recording."
Vebn reached over and activated the recorder.
Tedak: How can I help you?"
Vebn: "You can help be remembering your duty."
Tedak: "My duty?"
Vebn: "I have been made aware of the information you have passed to a foreign power. You have taken the private meeting in which we had regarding the Tholian situation and twisted it to your own ends and informed those in the Federation and Debrune" Tedak: "Did I now?" … "I only informed them because it is this station that is under threat. Home to us both, might I add..."
Vebn: "Quiet. I neither confirmed nor denied our involvement yet you report them as fact and to a foreign power at that. This is the kind of disloyalty that got you expelled from your position as Ambassador in the first place. I called in many favours to get you reinstated, you light think it was your allies or friends but it wasn’t - it was me. I asked for you as Debrune liaison. I have committed much to ensuring you do what is required of you as Ambassador. You represent our PEOPLE not theirs. Now you have one way to redeem yourself. The Romulan Government is not happy with the Debrune joining the Federation. They should be with us - their brothers by blood. You must convince Elder Ji'Zahn that the Federation are not the best option and impress upon him that in time it would be better to cultivate a relationship with us. This is a direct order fail it and you will be out of Ambassadorial robes faster than you can count to 5"
Vebn switched off the recording and offered it to Felix.
Magellan could hardly believe what had been revealed here. He saw now that Tedak and Vebn were locked in struggle for dominance and that here was the proof that the Romulans were supplying the Tholians with cloaks.
“This is powerful stuff Ambassador”
“Yes but as you know see it contained no threats merely the day to day efforts of diplomacy and subterfuge.”
Magellan frowned, Vebn was right. Tedaks family had not been threatened. He had lied. Damn Romulans he thought bitterly even the good ones tie you in knots of intrigue.
“Okay Ambassador. I will release Tedak into your care. I ll not be pressing charges” Felix looked about to disagree but Magellan cut him off, “We will not be pressing charges, it was the Elders wish. I do however wish to make clear two things. 1 I will not have this base disrupted by your and Tedaks power struggle.”
Vebn nodded, “And secondly?”
“And secondly you can expect a visit from our diplomats and Mr Savali here will be investigating the sale of weapons materials to the Tholians aboard this station. Expect a strongly worded complaint to the Romulan Senate”
“Thank you Admiral.” Vebn said rising, “We both protect our peoples Admiral just in different ways, and you may well judge us for selling cloaks but you so far no very little of the facts surrounding those decisions. Would it were that I could tell you more. Good day”
Vebn left and the door closed. Magellan sighed, “Romulans… I hate them sometimes. See to Mr Tedaks release please Felix and remind him of his civil duties as Mayor – they do not include Kidnap.”

"Of course", Felix responded, "I'll see to it right away.", he said as he got up and left Magellan alone in the office
As he exited the office entered the security station. He nodded to the guard and proceeded down the corridor to Tedak's cell. He deactivated the force field and stepped inside.
"It is your lucky day today Ambassador", Felix said, "All charges against you are dropped and you are free to go. But do remember next time you pull something like this... you will most likely be suspended from the position of mayor as kidnapping does not fall in the scope of day to day affairs of that position.", he said
"And also... next time you intend to drop the blame on someone else... make sure they do not keep evidence around with which they can disprove your accusations.", Felix said as Tedak approached him
"Your items", Felix said handing Tedak the dagger and the disruptor without the empty battery that was inside before
As Tedak walked out of the security office, Felix left him and went into another direction. While walking he tapped his comm. badge and contacted Dodger. He informed her that there was a new assignment there for her and that he needs to meet her right away. After arranging the meeting place which was to be in his office, he closed the channel and entered the nearest turbolift. After a longer ride on the lift, he finally arrived at his destination. He exited the lift and headed for his office. On his way through the JAG dept. he greeted several people before finally arriving to his office.
Moments later, the door chimed and after giving permission Dodger entered.
"Ah, Ensign"; Felix said, "Please do sit down", he instructed her, "Now I'll get right to the point as i am sure you have things to do", he smiled
"Recently we have received some information that suggests the Romulans have been trafficking cloaking devices to the Tholians. And we have reason to believe they might have been conducting this illegal business right here on the station. So the task i have for you is to try and determine if indeed this was happening here on the station.", he said
"Of course sir"; Dodger replied
"Good"; Felix said, "The moment you learn something let me know.", he said
"Of course", she said as she nodded and rose from her seat ready to depart
"Oh and Ensign, keep up the good work", he said as she exited his office

Ji'Zhan and Sol’aere, his Acolyte, made their way to Felix's office. He had tried to give this information before to several people but obviously the information was not acted upon. Upon reaching the office door, it opened as Dodger exited. Ji'Zhan stopped her, "Is Commodore Felix in?"
Dodger replied, "Yes, Elder ... are you OK from your recent ordeal?"
"Yes, I am fine and truly was never in any danger ... peace be unto you for your concern." Ji'Zhan replied. "I have information about activity in the Nebula that I wish someone to act upon."
Dodger's interest was peaked. Ji'Zhan, Sol’aere and Dodger walked into Felix's office to find him looking over a PADD at the group.
Ji'Zhan spoke, "Commodore, as you are now aware, I'm sure, the Deburne fleet has surveillance from within the Nebula about ship activity ... I have tried to give this to several people in the past couple of days but it seems to have fallen on closed ears."
<Felix>
Ji'Zhan took a seat as Sol'aere set up a small 3D display device. Upon activating it Ji'Zhan started, "The Debrune fleet has had several, several decades experience with the Nebula. In fact we patrol the Nebula on a regular basis with small reconnaissance ships. Those ships have sensors that the Deburne has developed that allows us to scan better than I think your own ships have the ability. What I have here are the past months activity from those patrols." Ji'Zhan allowed all that to sink in for a moment knowing that not many people knew of the Debrune Fleet at all, much less their level of technology. "I will not insult your ability to read these logs, but what I will say is we have been tracking cargo vessels that are unknown to us making deliveries to the Demon Class planets. With in the last weeks, that activity has stopped all together."
<Felix, Dodger>
Ji'Zhan looked at the log information and said, "We didn't pursue those ships once they exited the Nebula in fear of being detected. They looked, to us, to be simple cargo ships however they did possess weapons." Ji'Zhan pointed to that data, "They exited the Nebula each time in one of these three locations - they always entered in one location," Ji'Zhan pointed to the location on the 3D map. "I'm afraid that is all I have, but there should be enough here for your people to lead from and find more."
<Felix, Dodger>
Ji'Zhan stood to leave, "Please return this projection device to the Debrune office once you have extracted the data ... I will take my leave of you now. I you need any more information contact our Fleet Commander through the Debrune Ministry of Defense; Sol'aere has that information for you on this PADD. Peace and may truth be with you."
Ji'Zhan and Sol'aere left heading to continue talks with the Federation.

While Vebn ranted, Tedak made it a point of ignoring his current superior. He neither liked nor trusted Vebn and he made no effort of hiding that. He had fixed his gaze on a point on the wall somewhere behind the other Romulan diplomat, as though he was a first year cadet being diciplined by the senior sergeant. He sighed with relief when Vebn finally stalked away, and decided that now would be a good time to try and stay out of Vebn's way.
After what seemed like eternity, in which time Tedak just spent his time lying on the cot and stare at the ceiling, Felix Savali finally walked in, deactivated the forcefield had handed him back both weapons. In turn, Tedak only took back his personal dagger, ignoring the energy weapon altogether. "I will not take that weapon again commodore," he pointed out, "it was forced upon me and my dislike for energy weapons is well known."
He had no idea who he had to thank for his release but he didn't think it was wise to enquire after the reason. With a nod of thanks, he walked out of his cell and returned to his office...his mayor's office. "Lily, please contact Ji'Zhan?"
When Lily remained eerily silent, Tedak repeated his request. "Fine, then I'll just send him a message," he quipped angrily as he called up his communication's system. He then recorded a message for the Debrune issuing his apology. Tedak knew he didn't need to since Ji'Zhan now knew his mind, but it felt right to do so anyway.
After that was done, he browsed through his other messages then got back to work. There were reports to read and civillian guards to post to keep the civillians safe. That, and he expected the president's personal guards to march in any minute to demand an explanation he quite likely wouldn't be able to give to satisfaction.

"In that case i must apologize it would seem day to day affairs have fallen a bit behind due to the announced visit of the President", Felix said, "But be assured your information will not fall to deaf ears here", he said
"The technical capabilities of our sensors vary from one ship to another. YOu should not underestimate our detection systems as we should not underestimate yours", Felix said, "And i thank you for this information it might just provide the lead we need for our investigation", he said
"I thank you once more for the information, I am sure we will be able to track those ships now that we know where to look. And rest assured we will return the data device to you after we are done", Felix said as Ji'zhan and his aide stood up and left
After the duo departed, Felix turned to Dodger.
"Well looks like we have just received some useful information, will you accompany me to admiral Lin?", Felix questioned
"Yes", Dodger responded as the two proceeded out of his office and towards OPS
--OPS, several minutes later--
After Felix and Dodger entered OPS they found Magellan there, apparently he had only just arrived there himself.
"Admiral", Felix called out to him as he and Dodger approached
"Ah, Commodore, Ensign", Magellan said
"We have received some information from Elder Ji'zhan that may shine some light on the delivery of the cloaking devices to the Tholians", Felix said
"Oh?", Magellan questioned as Felix gave him the pad
"As you can see the Debrune have been detecting unmarked cargo vessels equipped with quite powerful defense weaponry mounted on them traveling on the same route for weeks. And none of them have registered with Assaillant", he said

Saarok had been in his office since the meeting with the president. Apparently that woman did not appreciate his view on moving the office of the President from Earth and decided to "punish" him by giving Ezdreiana the lead role in the negotiations with the Debrune. How naive he thought. These species that act without logic never ceased to amaze him. As he was reading over the latest security reports he came across a line on the arrest of Tedak for kidnapping of Ji'zhan and shortly after some notice of him being released.
=/\=Lily, where is Ambassador Tedak=/\=, he questioned
=/\=He is in the office of the Mayor of Assaillant=/\=
The reply came. Good Saarok thought, perhaps he can have a word with his old companion who lately seems to be getting into a lot of trouble all by himself. Perhaps there was something Saarok could to aide him. After finishing what he was doing Saarok rose from his seat and proceeded out of his office. Aeris joined him by landing on his shoulder and his two guards followed him out.
--At the civilian administration level--
After reaching the proper deck, the group exited the turbolift and proceeded towards the office of the Mayor. After questioning Tedak's secretary on Tedak's whereabouts, Saarok proceed to enter his office while leaving his companions behind.
"Apparently you have been up to no good once more my dear Ambassador", Saarok said as he entered Tedak's office

After his last "secret meeting", Kaiba walked right back to the restaurant, or club as he liked to call it himself, Simeth opened for him. He looked around and saw Simeth was again enjoying the company of some young women.
"I see old habits die hard Simeth"
"Go on get out of here"; Simeth said to the girls as he got up from the table, "After a hard days work... one has to indulge some rest and relaxation.", Simeth said
"A fool as always. Wasting time with such trivial matters when real work has got to be done. Have you arranged a meeting with your business partners?", he questioned
"Yes, they are arriving tomorrow night.", Simeth said
"Well i guess there is some use for you after all", Kaiba said and laughed
"What do you mean there is some use for me. I have been doing all the work...", Simeth began but was interrupted
"Do not even for a moment think that you have accomplished anything. It was I who got you out of prison; I who told you how to invest your money and it was and will be me who will make sure that you stay protected for as long as you do as I say. The moment you disobey me... you are going back to the prison cell I got you out of.", he said, "Is that clear?", Kaiba questioned
"Yes", Simeth said but he did not look happy
"Now, I have some business to take care of and in the meantime you make sure that all the preparations for the meeting tomorrow go fine.", he said as he turned and departed from the club leaving Simeth inside

"That's an understatement," Tedak sighed as he motioned for Saarok to please enter his office and take a seat. "Bad news travels fast on this station...though I'm sure with your connections you were one of the first to find out." He cast his Vulcan friend a wan smile. "I suppose I made a serious error in judgement. Ji'Zhan was forewarned, but yes it was still wrong. I won't deny that. However, had I really wanted to kidnap the elder, I would have managed to do so without being caught. You more than anyone knows that."
At Saarok's solemn nod, he sat up and steepled his fingers before him. "It may be best if I stay away from the diplomatic levels for now," he suggested, "I'm quite certain Vebn is in a murderous mood, but I don't quite expect him to go through the trouble and seek me out here. Tell me, have the Debrune signed anything yet? I believe I did accomplish my goal, and that is prevent them from joining the Empire. Vebn's orders were to stall or prevent talks between Federation and Debrune, but I feel the Debrune would sooner belong with the Federation than with a xenophobic race such as the Romulans. My people need change Saarok, for the better, not for the worse. While having the help of the Debrune might achieve that, I don't feel it's best for either people. What are your views?"
The Romulan sat back as he regarded his Vulcan friend. He had known Saarok for such a long time now and he wondered if the Vulcan ever missed their Cardassian friend Halrax. Yet now was not the time to bring him up, it was for another time. "Exactly how much trouble am I in?" he wondered aloud, "someone must've convinced Magellan to release me. I wonder why, and how...for I am well aware of Magellan's distrust and dislike of Romulans. He tolerates me, that much I know, but I am hardly liked or trusted."
He gazed intently at Saarok. "You are my closest friend," he added, "tell me, do you trust me?"

Saarok sat quietly listening to Tedak's story before replying to any of his questions.
"As far as the Debrune negotiations go... I do not believe anything was signed yet... but then I am no longer leading this negotiations as I have had a minor... disagreement with Madame President and Ambassador Ezdreiana has taken head on them. However I am sure she will manage just fine.", he said
"As for trusting you... logic states I trust people who have not deceived me before. And as far as history goes... thus fare you have no done anything to cause distrust from me. As for Vebn... perhaps the time is approaching to... take care of our dear colleague?", Saarok questioned

This time, Tedak's smile was a little more genuine. "Seems we're both out of the grace of our peers then huh? Two fallen diplomats, what a team we make don't we?" He said it in jest, but what truth there lay in his words, both men could understand. Neither a leading diplomat any longer, and replaced just like that over disagreements.
"I don't like that madam president," he suddenly whispered, "nor do I trust her. However, what do you mean this 'taking care of our collegue'? Surely you don't mean to harm him?"
The Romulan looked genuinely shocked even though he was well aware of Saarok's past. "I can't allow that Saarok. I am a diplomat to the Romulan people and Vebn is my chief even though I neither like nor trust him. And even though I feel he has no honour, this same honour demands of me that I do anything to prevent any form of assassination attempts on his life to occur. Now if you are indeed planning something, I suggest you keep those thoughts to yourself. That way, we can both claim we didn't know anything."
He was concerned now that Saarok might indeed do something stupid, and so far he had never known his Vulcan friend to do anything stupid. Other than the affair with the Vulcan woman who had claimed to be his wife. "Pleas tell me you're not planning to kill him? He's a diplomat, as such he deserves the respect of his rank. It would be best if we just ignore him in presence and just keep close tabs on him. He's planning something...and that something is major. You can trust me on that. You saw the data I showed you..."

"My friend, I assumed you knew me. As if I would ever undertake anything as... violent as an assassination. I see that your old habits die hard. But no matter, you can rest assured as far as I am concerned no one is going to do anything to harm Ambassador Vebn. As for him planning something... Well no disrespect to you or your people however whenever we have a representative of your species on this station they attempt to... undertake some major scheme in an attempt to damage the Federation or you. Therefore Ambassador Vebn will most certainly end up like his predecessors... sooner or later.", Saarok said
"As for Madame President and her moves... I am not preoccupied by her disliking me... It is her... loss if she does not wish to use my abilities in the negotiations. There will be no... sleepless nights from me over it even tough she believes there will be.", he finished

Stuart was too distraught to go over his charts at the moment. He was busy wondering if he had really done the wrong thing by speaking of D'Beren to the President. He only meant the best for all of them, considering their lives are always in danger.
His thoughts were interupted when three figures walked into the door of his office. It was T'Val, her father and D'Beren.
"My daughter has something to say to you," Soric announced, unceremoniously shoving T'Val forward.
T'Val in turn cast her father a murderous look, then stepped forward. "We would like you to join us on our trip to Qualinost," she said, as she walked up to him. ~and I am sorry~ she thought.
He 'heard' her, and glanced over at her father who in turn nodded confirming that she really was. Stuart rose from behind his desk to embrace T'Val. "I'm sorry too T'Val. I never intended to hurt you, I'm just scared for you and D'Beren."
The somber scene was quickly interupted as Rayna barged in with a troubled look on her face. "He's done it again," she murmured.
"He who?" Soric enquired though by the look on T'Val's face he could take a guess.
"Ambassador Tedak," Rayna answered, "he's gotten himself arrested again."
T'Val sighed. "What else is new? He is a strong man, he can manage himself. He has come through worse predicaments than that, trust me. Now, I really do not wish to postpone our trip to Qualinost. We have a lot to discuss." She cast a sheepish grin at Stuart and then a meaningful one at Rayna. "Will I meet you tomorrow for dinner Rayna?"
Rayna grinned. "You bet! Have a good trip."
All attention went back to Stuart as Rayna left. "Yes, I would be more than happy to get away from this crazy place and go down to Qualinost with you. Let me just forward instructions to Jill and we'll be off." Stuart returned to his terminal to shut it down.
Recalling T'Val's comment and her sheepish grin, something came to Stuart's mind. He was almost embarrased to ask T'Val infront of her father. He leaned closer to her for a whisper. "Before we leave, aren't you supposed to be...uh...witnessed...or something...you know...the kalifee thing we did?" Looking over at Soric, her father, he swore he saw a grin on that Vulcan face of his.

Magellan analysed the sensor information and frowned,
“Lets take this into my office.”
He led Dodger and Saarok up the three steps and into his main office. He went to the replicator and got them each a drink of their choice and then pulled his chair round the desk as Dodger and Felix took seats on the sofa.
“We seem to have a reasonable and credible amount of information building on the Romulans involvement in the Tholian Crisis.” Felix began
“We have our sensor data of Tholian Battlecruisers using cloaks with a Romulan signature” Magellan noted, “Vebn and Tedaks conversation log and now the Debrune data detailing covert supply trips to Demon Class planets… Many of these planets I note were not on our intell list”
Dodger looked up at that,
“Just because a supply ship visited doesn’t mean the Tholians have a colony there.”
“Very True” Magellan agreed, “You’ll have to verify each one…carefully.” Magellan paused looking deeply into his glass,
“Sir?” Felix prompted,
“We have confirmation that the Romulans supplied the Tholians with cloaks but what does that actually mean… not much. It’s their right to sell their technology to whoever they wish. We might not like it but they have that right. Secondly the Tholians have apologised to us for the subterfuge and we have…for now allowed them to keep their existing colonies as long as no news ones spring up. Our hands are tied somewhat”
“We could blackmail the Romulans into stopping their support of the Tholians”
“We could but they may call our bluff and then what? The Klingons find out and suddenly this small skirmish becomes another intergalactic war. How long before the Federation is dragged into that?”
“Then whats the answer”
“Ultimatly its not up to us, but our sole goal should be to try to arrange some kind of peace between the Klingons and Tholians.”
“So the information is useless” Dodger noted dryly
“Not useless, its another piece to the puzzle. Why do the Tholians want these planets and why did the Romulans agree to give them cloaks?”
Magellan scratched his chin,
“I ll tell you something else I m not happy about. This Debrune fleet. They seem pretty advanced, we need to ensure they remain allies anything else may present a considerable risk to this station and the federation settlements in this sector. Okay the President leaves in the morning. I suggest we all get some sleep and see her off in good humour. Then we can get down to the real work. Dismissed”

T'Val smiled ever so slightly. "Yes, I know," she whispered back, "and that is one reason we are going down to Qualinost. We are first going to show my father around, before you and I have a meeting with Ambassador Ji'Zhan. And..." She smiled mischievously, "my father and I are going to look for a dress. Unfortunately, you are not invited on that little trip. You may instead entertain D'Beren."
She took note of his playful pout, upon which she nudged him between the ribs. "Human tradition," she argued.
"Indeed," Soric cut in, "the groom is not allowed to see the bride's dress before the wedding. And you only have a few days left before your set date is reached. Magellan is already in preparation, I heard. Now can we please go?"
"Grandpa?" D'Beren spoke up, looking at the older Vulcan questioningly. "Are you my grandfather?"
Soric looked down, while T'Val and Stuard looked on with a bemused look on their faces. He knelt down before the three-year old. "That I am little one," he acknowledged, "your mother is my daughter, therefor you are my grandson."
D'beren stepped forward and hugged the surprised Vulcan tightly. Uncomfortably, he returned the hug, before rising to his feet again. "This may take some getting used to," he remarked, as they continued walking.
While T'Val continued to walk with her son, Soric walked up to Mercy, meaning to have a few private words with him. "Tell me young man," he started, his voice taking on a serious note, "why should I let you marry my daughter? I know you two have formed a bond, including an official marriage-bond. But I never gave my approval. Why would you do better than Tedak?"
Soric had liked Tedak, even though he had never met the man before coming to SBA. T'Val had always been full of praise about the Romulan diplomat, even though now he seemed to be in disgrace. T'Val had also explained her special relationship with Stuart Mercy, from the first moment they had met. Soric was aware of everything that had happened, as T'Val had been completely open about it towards him. He had also spoken with Tedak, who had also been full of praise.
The Vulcan waited expectantly for Mercy to respond.

"Therefore Ambassador Vebn will most certainly end up like his predecessors... sooner or later."
Tedak didn't look too happy to hear that hypothesis. "How exactly do you mean that?" he asked, looking very concerned. "I am his predecessor in case you had forgotten. However if my position is what this all will land him in...I have managed to land myself in quite some trouble again..." He trailed off, thinking of all the possebilities that were still open to him. "But I wouldn't wish this on anyone...not even Vebn and you know I don't like him."
"As for Madame President and her moves... I am not preoccupied by her disliking me... It is her... loss if she does not wish to use my abilities in the negotiations. There will be no... sleepless nights from me over it even tough she believes there will be."
This time, the Romulan smiled wanly. "Yet you seem preoccupied by it," he suggested, "or you wouldn't have to think on your perfect wording so much." He patted Saarok on his arm, as if to console him. "But worry not my Vulcan emotionless friend, I know you'll sleep just fine, just like always. And mind you, I don't particularly like this president either. What I do wonder is what'll happen now. Magellan released me into Vebn's custody, but I've no desire to come face to face with him now. Nor with that trigger happy commodore that accompanies madam president. I'll sleep better when they've departed this station."
Tedak paused, rubbing one hand over his eyes. "Rayna did a good job of patching me up, even though I don't understand what exactly transpired. I feel so drained of energy, after Ji'Zhan performed some form of mind-meld. Very unlike your sort...no don't worry, he didn't invade it, he had my permission to do whatever was necessary to get the truth from me." He looked up at what he felt was his only real friend, the only person he thoroughly trusted with his life. "What are your views on this entire situation? The president, the Debrune, everything..."

Ezdreiana was trying hard not to scream out in frustration. The last couple of hours were hectic and wide reaching. The Debrune Council had only a few hours ago refused to join the Federation. Ji'Zhan shortly thereafter was kidnapped by Tedak, who most likely was Ji'Zhan's best friend on the station. The subsequent search for Tedak by the President's guard and his arrest by Commodore Savaili. Worst of all, she had yet to realize why the Tholians and Romulans were working together. She had read and reread all the information Saarok had but nothing had clicked.
She knew of the Thoilans needs for demon class planets, but she didn't know what the Romulans were getting out of it. The Romulan Star Empire never did anything out of the goodness of their hearts. They were expecting a big reward for helping the Tholians, but she didn't know what.
"Ezdreiana you wanted to know when the President was leaving for Bolarus," Lily stated
"Yes, yes I did... I mean yes I do," Ezdreiana said rubbing her eyes.
"She will be leaving in 2 hours, I suggest you take a shower and meet up with Saarok in that time," Lily said.
"I think your right," Ezdreiana said as she walked into her personal quarters in her office. She would talk to Saarok in a few minutes.

"I shall begin with the Debrune... They need the federation more than they are willing to admit. They are just foolishly proud to admit that. I would even go that far to say that that they need us more than we need them but are not ready to admit this out of fear to appear weak. As for the president... she is preoccupied with popularity and therefore is undergoing foolish actions to do what she believes will increase it. However what she does not realize is that even if her actions increase her popularity... it will be short lived. As much as we try to deny it... tradition plays an important role in our society. And as much as some people try to deny it... they will fail.", he said
"Then we have the Tholians. They have finally decided to expand the empire. So they began to colonize our Daemon class planets by going with the thesis tat once they colonize a world it will be too hard even impossible to chase them out and by the fact that the federation is too frightened to stat a war over something insignificant as a few daemon class planet. Then we have the Romulans who are selling cloaks to them. Most likely they made an agreement that they will stay out of their territory or join them when they wage a war against someone.", he said
"And then we have Vebn who is in reality jealous of you. You have the respect of both the Federation and the Debrune which is something he actually longs for but is to proud to admit it. Therefore he has made it his goal to destroy you in order to prove that one can do without the respect he in reality hungers for."; Saarok said

"Jealous," Tedak mused, "of what? Perhaps I am respected, but I am hardly trusted. And my own people neither trust nor respect me. All I have accomplished over the last years has been done away in a blink of the eye when they replaced me with that rat." The Romulan started pacing his office, unsettling both his firelizards in the process. Both took wing with a screech, then disappeared. Saarok's two followed suit, leaving the two diplomats alone in the office.
"And yes he does seem to be out to destroy me doesn't he? He discredits me at every opportunity. He is unfortunate to not have counted on my friends, even though they are a thorn in the eyes of the empire, and Vebn himself." This time, the Romulan smiled brightly. "Yes, I mean you, Ezdreiana and Ji'Zhan. Though you are the biggest thorn in his eyes, and I believe that could be counted as a compliment."
He was distracted when his console beeped. "Message from Lily," he commented as he swiveled the monitor around for Saarok to look at it. "Ezdreiana wishes to talk with you. You should go meet with her. I'll be here or at the diplomatic level should you have need of me. Oh, that's provided nothing comes between it. I'm half expecting Vebn to march in here at any time. He's out for blood, trust me. I made some very valid accusations, that Ji'Zhan now knows to be true. I doubt he'll take that very well."
Again he smiled. "You and I both know how ill-tempered Romulans can be, and that is present company included."

Saarok nodded, "Live long and prosper", he said to Tedak as he departed from his office
"We are heading back to the Federation Embassy", Saarok said to his guards as the three of them proceeded out of the outer office of the Romulan mayor
--At the Federation Embassy--
Upon reaching the Embassy, Saarok dismissed his guards and proceeded to Ezdreiana's office. After ringing the bell and hearing the word's "Enter", Saarok proceeded inside.
"I understand you wished to see me", Saarok said upon entering

She hadn't expected for Saarok to reach her office so quickly, so she had to scramble to become presentable. She knew how self consciences she would become. Being married to a Vulcan had given her special insight into the inner workings of Vulcans.
"Enter."
"I understand you wished to see me", Saarok said upon entering.
"The President has asked us to meet Ji'Zhan before leaves this morning," Ezdreiana said," she left me specific orders to try and formalize the Debrune entering the Federation. I have also sent a request to allow Tedak to be present, though I doubt the President will say yes. I have also requested that Vebn be barred from the meetings."

"Lily, please inform Ji'Zhan and the President that we are ready to resume talks," Ezdreiana said as she picked up her briefs and headed to the most important talks ever.

"The chance of Ambassador Tedak being present for these negotiations equals the chance that the Romulan Star Empire will sign an alliance treaty with the Klingon Empire", Saarok said, "As for Mr. Vebn... he has no business taking part in the negotiation between the Debrune and the Federation. These negotiations do not include the Romulans.", Saarok informed her
"Now i must depart... I shall see you later"; Saarok said as he departed from Ezdreiana’s office

President Vrened felt tired beyond measure. After the stress of the previous day she had hoped for a quiet evening and restful sleep. Instead she had been up half the night going over the Tholian situation with her advisors. News was starting to filter in that General Ch’lork had destroyed a Tholian colony on Klacma. The Tholians were furious and science stations near Tholian space had detected unusual Tachyon shifts that her Security Advisors convinced her were the hidden signatures of a considerable fleet of Cloaked Battlecruisers and Web Spinners. Having quickly spoken with Kaskrene and Korok she had persuaded them to meet in independent talks aboard Assailant later in the week. She hoped Ezdreiana and Saarok would be able to cope with both these talks and the ongoing ones with the Debrune.
She had finally let her head reach the pillow when Admiral Bennett appeared with Intell that proved the Romulans involvement in the Tholian Crisis. Getting up once more she decided to stay up, she could always sleep on the way to Bolarus. She spoke by sub-space with the Romulan Ambassador on Earth and then the Leader of the Senate on Romulus. Neither seemed very happy and neither seemed willing to explain why the Romulans were willing to sell cloaks to the Tholians. She managed to arrange some high level talks on Earth for when she got back and Admiral Bennett despatched some more of his Intelliegnce officers to Romulan Space.
“Madam President Its 8am” her aide reported entering the room with a change of clothes. “Your due to make your departure speech at 9 and you wanted to see Ji’Zahn and Ambassadors Saarok and Ezdriana prior to that.”
“Thankyou Anise” Zahara sighed wearily getting to her feet. She looked in the mirror, were her jowls sagging even more? “I’ll change now.”
Five minutes in the Sonic Shower and then quickly into a new suit and she nearly felt Zakdorn again. She gulped down a glass of Talula Juice and allowed Anise to apply the make up.
“Okay let’s go.”
She fell into step with her Security people and the mass of aides and administrators that followed her everywhere.
“Good morning Madam President. I trust you slept well” Sirok asked with out hint of humour,
“Yes thank you Sirok” Zahara smiled, He maybe her Vice-president but that was a case of political necessity not choice.
There was no more time for conversation as Elder Ji’Zahn approached and behind him, Saarok and Ezdriana.
“Elder. I am glad to find you well. I apologise for what transpired and I hope it has not inhibited our relationship.”
“Not at all. The kidnap was all a misunderstanding.” Ji Zahn replied
Zahara smiled weakly and nodded,
“I m glad. I think our talks yesterday showed promise. We would obviously like the Debrune to join the Federation but I understand your urge for independence… it is my wish that you work with Ezdreiana and Saarok to first of all formalise our agreement and make the Debrune fully a protectorate of the Federation. If all goes well we could perhaps then work towards full membership”
TAG Ji’zahn
Vrened turned to Saarok and Ezdriana, “I don’t wish to alarm you or over burden you but I have arranged for the Tholians and Klingons to meet next week to work for peace, you will act as mediators.”
TAG Saarok and Ezdreiana
Approaching the podium once more Zahara cleared her voice.
“Yesterday I told you of my plans for the location of my administration. And all of you will be consulted on whether Bolarus or Betazed will be the new Seat of the Federation Government. But now I stand before you with greater news, the sort of news that is what the Federation is all about, peace and reconciliation. Whilst I will not allow us to be drawn into the growing conflict between the Tholians and the Klingons I cannot stand by and do nothing. We have allowed the Tholians to keep their colonies in our space and we have leant technical support to our Klingon allies, now our diplomats will mediate a resolution to this crisis and ensure peace for the entire galaxy. Secondly I can announce that the Federation truly does have a new friend in the Debrune. They have opened up their lives to us, shared their planet with the Tekaran refugees and now as of today are willing to enter into to closer ties that may in time lead to full membership of the Federation. I arrived here in darkness and leave in the light. I thank the diligent staff of Assailant and all her citizens for a warm welcome. Bolaraus will have much to do to match it. Thank you.”
She stepped off the podium and into the airlock.
Magellan finally let out a long sigh as if he had been holding his breath for the whole visit.
He turned to Felix and said,
“Thank the pools that’s over. Perhaps I can get out of this monkey suit” he gestured to the dress uniform.
“Not yet sir. We still have Stuart and T’Vals wedding at midday” Felix noted with a wry smile.
“Oh yes” Magellan replied “ Well when that’s over I m taking this off and burning it.”

ooc: rewrite...had a huge part written....then suddenly I was looking at a blank screen......so the rewrite starts a little later...
ic:
T'Val and Mercy stood before Ji'Zhan's office, while Soric stood back a little with D'Beren. To their surprise, they found the office closed and the secretary informed them that the Debrune elder had cancelled all appointments for today as he was detained by duties on Assaillant.
While a little disappointed, T'Val and Mercy turned towards Soric, who already seemed to know what they were going to ask. With a very slight smile, he nodded and proceeded to initiate a brief mind-touch to confirm their bonding. Relieved, T'Val beamed up at her mate. "Now we can get married," she whispered at him, "and we have only four hours left. We must hurry...Rayna is waiting for me." She turned to look at Soric. "Father will you go with Stuart?" She smiled. "He might need the assistance...and the usual 'father-son' pep-talk, as Humans put it."
After giving him a quick kiss, T'Val disappeared from view, only to re-emerge directly in her quarters, where she was awaited by Rayna and Jill Tsomba. The minute she arrived, the two women (though one a little less enthusiastic than the other) started showing her a wide variety of wedding dresses.
T'Val looked at some in sheer disdain, while she gawked at others. In the end, the three women settled on something elegant yet very simple with a very long veil. She knew that Stuart would just love to see her in this dress, which complemented her figure, and didn't stand out too much against her green-teinted skin and bright red hair.
"It is almost time," Rayna whispered as she pulled a brush through the Vulcan's hair, "are you nervous?"
T'Val turned around and smiled. "Nervosity is an emotion," she tried to argue, then sighed. "Extremely nervous," she admitted. "Everyone will be there, including Tedak. I know this must be very painful for him..."
Rayna nodded. "Yes, maybe but know that he's very happy for you. Stuart is your soulmate, Tedak was in a way but not the way Stuart is. I can see that he makes you very happy. Now, it is time, we must go."
The three of them, together with D'beren, got up and were escorted by an honour guard of Starfleet security officers towards the dock, where a shuttle would take them to Qualinost for teh ceremony.

Independence. I think our talks yesterday showed promise. We would obviously like the Debrune to join the Federation but I understand your urge for independence… it is my wish that you work with Ezdreiana and Saarok to first of allformalizee our agreement and make the Debrune fully a protectorate of the Federation. If all goes well we could perhaps then work towards full membership” Madam President informed.
Ji'Zhan paused for just a moment, thought how quickly the President was rushing though what should have been slow talks then said, "Madam President, I regret that you have given so little time towards these talks. I am truly saddened that you think so little of the Debrune to disgrace us by disrespectful quickness. It is actions like those, and others, that have made the Elders choose not to join the Federation today. Truly the Debrune are thought of as unimportant, little people. However, I say that until the Federation and other races see us as equals then membership may be farther off than anyone may think. Talks with the Ambassadors will continue as you wish ... I still want to offer you directly, however, the technology that allows our ships to use sensors as in normall space. As this will help your ships in the nebula. I only hope that this will show you that we are willing to work with the Federation and share our technologies, to a point, to the full extent of the protectorate." Ji'Zhan looked at the other Elders walking with the group and agreed with them that the Federation President was indeed misguided. Ji'zhan didn't continue with the rest of his words but just stated, "I want to offer you words about the Tholians ... Stone is heavy and sand a burden, but provocation by a fool is heavier than both ..." The Elders in concert left the Presidentt with a greeting from the Debrune, "May you not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth."
The Elders and their people stopped as the President's group walked ahead, the President only stoppingg for just a moment to ponder the Elder's words. Ji'Zhan left the other two Elders to hear the President's departing speech for he had more important things to attend to down on the planet.
Before Stepping into his shuttle he asked a Starfleet guard to tap his com-badge and cal lCommodorer Felix but he wasn't responding as he was busy with the President's leaving. So, he just contacted Lily, "Lily, inform Commander Felix and Admiral Lin that the Debrune has a fleet of escort fighters should they need extra security for the President's departure" Lily responded back, "Yes Elder, I will inform them both - I'm sure they can use them."
<Felix, Lin ... Lily has a message for you ^^^>
Ji'Zhan entered his shuttle and he told the shuttle attendant to turn off the President's speech; he wanted to have a quite ride to the planet's shuttle.
<Mercy, T'Val ... Ji'Zhan is ready for you on the Planet>

The President took a seat in her quarters aboard the Starship as the ship left the starbase. Sirok sat beside her.
"The Debrune are rather full of themselves" she pointed out "They are such a small race and yet demand so much,"
"They have a proud past."
" As does every member of the Federation. But they do not seem to want full equality. You saw how Ji'Zahn bridled at the merging of their military such as it stands with Starfleet. It strikes me that they are a worthy friend and I will do all I can to ensure that we remain such. But as Ji'Zahn said full memebrship is a long way off."
"I believe Elder Ji'Zahn expected longer talks."
"Then he should have checked my schedule. This was a good will tour to begin the negotiations, to show my good will for them. Saarok and Ezedriana are better placed to hammer out the details now that we have reached some level of accord. I cant micro manage every single diplomatic thing. Does he know how many planets are currently petitioning for membership?"
"I would not know" Sirok commented quietly
"No. Well I shall be watching the talks with great interest, it strikes me that until the Debrune loose thier superiority complex they will be unable to blend with the Federation. Till they can we must do all we can to protect them from the predations of the Romulans."
