"Excellent work Chapman" Magellan noted, "Lets switch her on and see where he is."
Chapman obliged, powering up the device. It hummed and then a readout started to come through on the tricorder screen.
"There he is. Well thats where the faint trail ends."
Magellan noted the co-ordinates where in 3D space. He needed to match that with the base.
"Lily" he asked the sentient AI system "Can you overlay the data in this tricorder with a base schematic."
"I can Admiral. Working"
In a fraction of a second the answer was on the screen before them. A bright pulsating red dot appeared on a deck plan.
"Sickbay" Magellan exclaimed, "Security. Apprehend the man in Sickbay...by all means necessary. Return him to the conference room." He paused..." Hang on. What for me. Security is to wait outside"
He left the room at a run. Sickbay was several decks away and it took hims everal minutes to traverse the distance via tube ways and access corridors. He was heartened to see a Security detail waiting for him at the entrance.
"Anyone come out?" he checked
The security officer shook his head.
"wait here" Magellan oredered and entered the room. At first he couldnt see Aiken. The room was busy with several people inside with minor injuries clogging up triage. Nurse Tsomba was bent over a biobed hard at work with someone who appeared to be beyond help.
It was then he noticed Aiken. He was older, a little greyer but definetly the report. He was stood beside a bed.
"Aiken. You need to come with me"
Aiken turned and looked at Magellan as if only barely recognising him,
"Admiral" he said at last "Thats not possible. I m staying here with my daughter"
Magellan hadnt realised the man had a daughter and looked at the inert form lying beside them.
"Its important Aiken. You have been caught in a time..."
"Yes a time bubble, I know. It doesnt alter the fact my daughter needs me."
"We can ends this, you can end this. Return to where the bubble struck you and all this will be rewritten."
Aiken eyed the Admiral,
"Will it work, I have little faith in Starfleet"
Magellan knew he ought to lie, but for some reason felt he couldnt,
"It may not. But its the best chance we have. It wont work if all affected arent in the right place. I have a ship full of Klingons out there and another of Tholians somewhere ready to go to war with each other."
"You dont understand. I dont care about them or you. Just her. I ve never been there for her in the past. When shes needed me, when shes been in trouble. It may not be the real me, or even me at the right time but I m here...now." Aiekn explained a pained expression on his face, "I m not going anywhere"
Magellan was about to continue when Tsomba came over to him,
"You need to see this patient."
"Not now."
"Yes now" Jill insisted, "Its important"
Magellan nodded,
"You have 2 minutes with your daughter and then you are coming with us willing or not." he beckoned for the security detail to enter.
He followed Jill over to teh bio bed she had been at when he had first arrived. The figure lay deathly still, covered by a blood spattered sheet. The bleeping from the medical equipment seemed muted and irregular. As he drew nearer he could see the damage. The mans left leg had been burned off to the knee and his torso was lacerated by hundered cuts so much so that his uniform was in tatters revealing plae blue skin beneath the welling blood.
The burned face, what remained of it was vaguely familiar and it wasnt until he spoke that he realised who the person was,
"Admiral" the man gasped through mangled lips and broken teeth,
"Zoilip!!" Magellan hissed in barely a whisper the shock slamming into him like a juggernaut. His hand immediatly dropped to take his friends, "Hush, save your strength." He looked at Jill plaintivley who shok her head.
"What happened?"
"No...time..they came... do'nt trust them the base. The flames all gone all gone." Zoilips voice was barely a whisper but his single working eye was filled with such horror and vehemnce that Magellan was in complete comprehension,
"Who." and then belatedly "When"
"You went first...nothing we could...gone. Docking level collapsed." Suddenly he seemed to slip into a psychosis, a flash back... or was this a flash forward..." Seal it. Seal the dock" Zoilip shouted, his back arching in pain and terror, "Too many, too many of them, everywhere. Ops come in commeee............." his voice trailed off and his whole body became limp. The eye losing its lustre as death took hold. Magellan looked at Jil in shock. From what he could see Zoilip looked no older than usual, who had doen this.
"What happened" He asked the nurse his voice shaky.
"A time bubble. One minute he was sat here having a physical check up. The next he was badly injured and dying on the biobed."
Magellan breathed a small sigh of relief, Zoilip had been affected by the time bubble. A successful reversal would mean none of this would have happpened. He would live again.
At least until whatever might happen to them did.
"Look after his body. I hope this wil be over soon" he told Jill and returned to Aiken, "Times up" he stated coldly, "Lives depend on this now. You are coming with us"
