“McLeod to Sickbay, Medical Emergency!” Illito heard over her commbadge, and saw someone teleport to an empty bed.
She rushed over and began to heal his burns. Lieutenant Avel came over to help her. It seemed that when it came to injured people, he was very willing to work with her, he even seemed slightly friendly.
When the work was done though, he walked away, back to whatever it was he had been doing when Commander Dunsmore, had appeared. Illito wasn’t quite sure why he was so aloof and hostile. She noticed that Commander had regained consciousness. “You okay?” she asked him.
He responded, and she introduced herself, in case he hadn‘t caught her name at the staff meeting. “He been givin' you trouble?” Luke asked. Illito rolled her eyes and shrugged slightly. She still wanted to know why he was behaving like he was. It seemed sort of like he was too distracted to concentrate on being friendly, but when he made the effort to concentrate it was because there was something important going on. It made it rather hard to just talk to him, since healing someone was hardly the best background to a casual conversation.
Illito stifled a laugh at Luke’s comments, with a glance towards Lieutenant Avel. She still hadn’t seemed to provoke any sort of reaction from him, she decided to pretty much stop trying. “You're right,” Illito said. “Perhaps you better put your shirt on now, I’ve done all with the wound that I can. I’ll check up on you in a little while, but I think that for now you should let the wounds heal a little more, especially before you go opening up hostile panels.”
“Lieutenant,” she opened, going up to Avel. “What’s on your mind?”
“Not much,” he replied gruffly. Or, at least, not much that the new CMO could do anything about.
“You seem distracted, and a little over-worked. I’m taking you off duty for today, I’ll see you tomorrow.” Avel looked at Illito suspiciously, trying to understand why she was being kind from him. Except for laughing at him, that is. Avel was still a little bit unhappy about that. He briefly contemplated refusing, but his wife had been complaining that he spent more time at work than with her and their ten-year daughter.
“Will a formal reprimand be entered in my file?” Avel asked, concerned.
“No,” Illito responded. “You’ve been covering for the CMO, and probably doing more work than you were used to doing. Just take the rest of the day off.” Avel nodded, and left sickbay. Illito returned to Luke’s side. “Well, that takes care of him for a while,” she commented to Luke. “I’m sure he’ll be fine after a days rest,” Illito predicted optimistically.

"He hates Cardassian's," Luke said frankly. "I'm sorry to be so blunt, but it's true. He always has". Tintagel looked hurt. "Why?" she said softly. "An old, collective hatred that dates back to the war. I think his Father's strong Maquis links influenced his opinions". Illito looked hurt. "Ignore it," Luke said. "You must know though that me and the rest of the crew don't feel the same way here, you'll instantly be welcome". Illito smiled. "Thanks".
"Hey," Luke said as he plonked down next to McLeod, Sovas and Trust. THey all said 'hello' and the group of friend's began chatting idly as they ate their lunch. "Mind if I join you?" came a voice. The four men looked and saw Tintagel. "Of course not," Trust said, showing her a seat.

Illito noticed that Luke, along with a couple of other people that she had seen for but a moment during the staff meeting, and walked towards them. Seeing as she didn’t know anyone, she decided that rather than eating alone, she could try to meet them. “Mind if I join you?” she asked.
“Of course not,” Trust said, showing her a seat. Illito sat and found that silence seemed to have taken the place of the talking that had been formerly present. Aware that many people, among them herself, found this awkward, Illito wondered what to talk about. Her small talk skills were notably lacking. She would have been content to listen, if they had continued to talk. Instead it seemed that she had to start the conversation.
Except she hadn’t the slightest clue what it should be. “Please, continue your conversation,” she eventually decided. “If I have anything to say I’ll volunteer it, but for the present my mind is fairly empty.”

The four men looked at each other, and then three of them (Sovas was content to remain silent) burst into hysterical laughter. Illito looked at them in amazement, and then seemed hurt. "Please," McLeod said between laughs. "We're not laughing at you, we are laughing at the fact that you are definitely too uptight. Just relax". "You can talk about anything with us," Trust said. "Well, except maybe Sovas". The three men begqn laughing again, and even Illito couldn't help herself (OFF- I know that isn't funny, but smart witty comments are not my thing, folks!). "I'm sorry Commander," she said to Sovas. "I am not offended by your outburst," he said calmly. She smiled. "So," said Luke. "Where have you come from, what ship I mean?"

"Is it me or is it 5000 degrees in here?" Luke asked as he walked into Engineering. "Sir," said Ensign Yates. "The environmental controls are malfunctioning". "No doubt due to our friend in the works," Luke said. He taped his comm badge. "Dunsmore to Commodore T'Mar". "Go ahead," T'Mar replied calmly. "We've had an environmental failure in engineering. It's like an oven in here. Is everything okay up there?" "Yes Commander," she replied. "W... fin. w..ld pl...e". Her broken communication failed. Luke tried to get her back but couldn't. "What's wrong with the communications controls?" he asked. "They're malfunctioning as well". "The lights in this place are about the only things that aren't," he commented. The lights went out.

Cleburn shook his head when the lights went out. This is getting ridciulous he thought. "Virus, please stop these tricks. come with me I want to show you some things." Cleburn said despite getting odd looks from the others. Cleburn wrote on his padd, and showed to the others: "I'm taking it to the holodeck and then you can isolate it in a holodeck mainframe." "I come." the virus answered. Cleburn walked out to the holodeck. tag

“I was on the Hanson, the training ship, just before this,” Illito answered.
They talked for a while longer before returning to duty.
Illito walked into sickbay, hoping that all of the equipment was still working. She had felt a little uneasy taking the turbolift, especially when it failed, twice. Fortunately it had started up again soon after, as if the virus was trying to make a point rather than cause general havoc.
In sickbay she found that some of the equipment would be working, then would suddenly quit working when she tried to use it. Sighing, Illito was slightly comforted by the fact that the tricorders couldn’t be influenced by the virus if weren’t hooked up to the main computer. At least she had one piece of reliable equipment.
Illito recognized that in reality she wasn’t anywhere near as dependent on technology as most of the rest of the ship. After all, most of the medicine was administered without the use of extensive equipment.
OOC: I will be taking a LOA from Wednesday, the 8, to Sunday the 12. If I should post this somewhere else, tell me.

T'Mar was informed about Cleburn's plan to isolate the virus in the holodeck system. T'Mar went down to the designated holodeck to see how his plan was proceding.

The nursery was nearby and while Cleburn was working on the holodeck, she went to see how her daughter was doing. The child, a month old, wasn't doing much else but sleeping and crying when hungry. "All these malfunctions are upsetting the children" Jenny, the chief nurse said. "When is finally this virus going to be stopped?" T'Mar replied that she certainly understood the gravity of the situation. "I have a little daughter myself and it is my duty as captain of this ship to see that we are all safe! Some problems are not fixed in a minute. But I am certain the storm will be over soon." She did not speak aloud what plan was in motion. She then went down to engineering to see why the department did not communicate. The crew there was working hard to get systems running again and it was hot.

Cleburn had been hard at work reworking the Holodeck. He had just about completed the rework when Commodore T'Mar walked in. He reached over to a padd and indicated his progress. She nodded and told him to report when done. He nodded and got back to work. When he mad ethe last tweak to the program. He stood up from the panel and said, "Activate program McLeod training alpha 1. The Holodeck flashed and became an exact replica of the Scavenger bridge. "Virus come into the holodeck program, please." "I am here." the virus answered. "Virus, go into the visual representaion files and choose one for yourself and project it in here." The lights flashed and the virus appeared. Tag "Thank you, you have just isolated yourself within the holodeck mainframe. I am here to teach you how to behave and be a help to us on this ship. Eveantually you will be let back into the rest of the ship." Tag

The virus looked around wildly. It tried to escape back into the computer system, but its physical form wouldn't disappear. It screamed and shouted incoherently and threw its physical form around trying in desperation to gain control of the computer again. Cleburn took a step back in surprise, but it quickly dawned on him that the virus was having a tantrum, much like any child that doesn't get its own way. "Virus!" he said in his commanding voice. "Virus, stop. Calm down. Have a look at yourself" This caught the virus off-guard. It hadn't thought of looking at itself before. It sat up from where it had fallen to the floor during its tantrum. It could see two long appendages; it thought they were called legs. They were covered in some blue material. And there were two arms a well. They had funny little strands of protein protruding from them. Cleburn saw that the virus had taken his comment literally, and conjured up a mirror for the virus to have a better look at its appearance. The virus jumped with a start when a third person appeared in the room. It stared at the newcomer and the new comer stared back. “That’s a mirror” Cleburn said. “That’s an image of yourself that you are looking at.” The virus stared at the image. It moved at he moved. Cleburn was right. It was and image of the virus. The image was that of a human of about 15 years; tall and lanky, dressed in jeans and a white t-shirt, a mop of brown hair and large brown eyes. (OFF: I am picturing Wesley Crusher here ) “That’s better” said Cleburn. “Now, we need to lay down a few ground rules” <tag Cleburn>

Up on the bridge, Emelye got notification that Leiutenant Cleburn had successfully lured the virus into the holodeck. With the virus temporarily out of the way they would ahev a chance to get all the systems back on line.
First she restored internal commmunications to the whole of the ship and called for a status report from all levels. Engineering responded within seconds.
"Hey Emelye, do yo think you could get some lights on down here?" Luke's voice came through loud and clear.
"I'll get a team down there right away" she replied. "How are things going?" It was good to hear Luke's voice. They had barely spent any time together since the virus got aboard.
"I'll tell you over dinner" he said, almost like he had read her mind

From a distance T'Mar watched Cleburn work with the virus. The boy seemed to learn things extroardinarily fast. Emelye also came to observe. "Ship communications have been restored" she said. "Everything is going back to normal." T'Mar nodded. "Educating this youngster will prove a challenge. Lieutenant McCleod is determined to perform this task. It will take some time before we can determine where he must go, whether it is safe to let him enter our society. I hope that he will" Emelye smiled. "He'll be allright, I think. But I've got to go now. Goodnight sir." "Goodnight commander Brianon" T'Mar replied. Emelye went to look for Luke who had promised her dinner.

Cleburn was surprised at how quickly Virus had picked up his lessons. By the second day the Virus had stopped throwing all his tanturms. At the end of the first week Cleburn felt it was ready to meet the Commodore and the first officcer. "Virus, you are ready to meet the Commodore and the first officer." Cleburn said to the Virus. "I understand, sir." the virus responded. "Commodore T'Mar and Commander Brianon could you come to the holodeck for a meeting?" Cleburn said. "Understood, on our way." came the reply. "Now virus when they arrive they may ask you what you want to do since in my estimation you have learned what you need to to surive in the normal world. I wish to present you with this." Cleburn said handing the Virus a remote emitter. This allows you to leave the holodeck." "Thank you, sir." was the response. "Your choices at this point are simple. You can leave the ship as a civilian, leave as a cadet for Starfleet, or as a MArine cadet. or you may stay onboard as a one of the above mentioned people. If you join Starfleet or the Marines there is no telling what may happen for you." At the time the doors hissed open and the Commodore and FO walked in. "Virus, meet Commodore T'Mar Commander of this vessel, and First Officer Emeyle Brianon." Tag

When Illito returned to sickbay the next day, she was a little surprised to find Lieutenant Avel on duty, though she should have expected him. It was his shift. She thought about rearranging the shift, but she was too proud to follow Luke’s advice and just ignore him. If there was a problem, they would both have to deal with it. “Are you doing better?” Illito asked him.
Avel was a little disconcerted by Illito’s apparent friendliness. It just didn’t seem quite right. Maybe it was that she seemed a little too cheerful, or maybe it was merely the fact that she was a Cardassian, but he didn’t feel entirely comfortable even knowing that she was on the same ship, let alone that they would be working together. He realized that he hadn’t answered her question. “I’m fine, I was fine the other day,” he answered gruffly.
“That’s good,” Avel glanced at Illito suspiciously, she still seemed too happy. “Because it means that you can help me with something. Do you have any idea why my office seems rather cluttered?” she asked, still trying to be friendly, but this time she really did want an answer.
“In the absence of a CMO, it seemed like a valid place to store information,” he explained. “And I believe that quite a lot of the information may be useful to you at some point or another, in the future.”
“It may be useful at some point,” Illito acknowledged. “But I think that just now I would prefer to have an office.”
Avel nodded reluctantly. “Thank you,” Illito responded. Avel sighed, annoyed with himself for agreeing to this. Although he supposed that it was his job..his duty. But he had never really been a career officer, he had always found his family more important. Which was a large part of the reason why he hadn’t joined the Maquis. That, and the fact that the Maquis no longer existed.
Illito nodded at Avel, and went to deal with a recent injury. Fortunately, since the virus had been contained, the number of victims of random console explosions had gone significantly down.

T'Mar and Emelye talked with the virus for half an hour. The being had learned much and seemed to have an understanding of social behaviour.
Then T'Mar asked. "Have you thought of a name? We can't keep calling you virus forever." The boy looked at her with an impression of intrigue. "A name?" Then he calmed a bit. "Yes ofcourse. Everybody has a name. I should have a name." "Maybe Lieutenant McLeod can help you with that" Emelye said. "He has taught you a lot of things.
Tag Cleburn.
A couple of hours later they had a celebration on the holodeck. The youngman could not yet exist outside of the holodeck but a solution was underway. Starfleet engineers had been able to make a duplicate of Voyager's doctor's mobile emitter. What was once a virus would soon be a fullfledged member of society.

OOC: Cleburn, maybe you can give the virus a name. If neccesary, we could discuss it crewwide.
What I'd also like to do is make the new character a member of the crew. If you have the password you can sim for this character so there will be a continuation in case someone else is unable to post.

Illito glanced around the holodeck, where the celebration to welcome the new crewmember was taking place. She looked at the crew, and realized that she didn’t have up-to-date medical records for any of them. She made a mental note to look that up...but after the party. Even if parties weren’t her...natural environment, she still didn’t want to ruin everyone else’s fun by nagging them. Illito’s glance fell upon the new crewmember, Samus. How was she supposed to get a medical file on him? Illito supposed that would probably fall to engineering, or it wouldn’t be necessary, as Illito doubted that he would fall sick with anything she could fix.
Those problems having been put aside for the time being, Illito resolved to find someone and talk to them, no matter how awkward it would be.
OOC: As the mission doesn’t seem to be officially ended yet, and no new one has been started, I thought posting here might be a good idea.

I'm concluding this mission now. I'll leave this thread on sticky for a while if you wish to discuss or comment.
Mission stats:
Crew status: (post count is of last mission called Evolution)
CO: Commodore T'Mar (Active, 16 topic posts) FO: Commander Emelye Brianon (Active, 6 posts, but also doubled as 'Virus') CTSO: Commander Chris Majeski (Active I presume for now and again I wasn't notified of him being added to my crew!!!!) COO: Vacant CSO: Vacant CNS: Commander Trust No-one (Active, 1 long post, but frequency needs improvement) CEO: Lieutenant Commander Luke Dunsmore (Active, 7 posts) CMO: Lieutenant Commander Dr. Illito Tintagel (Active, 9 posts, very good) SMO: Marine 1st Lieutenant Cleburn McLeod (Active, 14 posts, very good)
I've counted all on topic posts. I'd say this mission went very well and Dr Tintagel and Lieutenant McLeod are doing really well.
If you have an idea for a new mission, I'll refer to the mission topic. I'd like to start a new mission soon although people will be on vacation. You can check the Vacation - LOA topic when a player is away.
