Hawk quickly activated the cloak and acknowledged the ordered.
“ETA to the Majesty is 47 minutes at current speed, Captain,” Hawk replied.
“Acknowledged,” Came the simultaneous reply from both Kay and Sonak.
Kay and Sonak both pitched an awkward glance at each other.
Hawk then turned his attentions to the tactical display. With just a few adjustments Hawk managed to spot 6 faint reflections using the improved motion sensors. After a few more scans Hawk was able to plot the reflections course, which was on a direct path to their location.
“Captain we have 6 cloaked bogies on an intercept course and closing fast,” Hawk informed.
“Commander Cornette, engage maximum warp,” Sonak requested.
“Commodore we are at 105% on the warp core now,” Kay respond.
“Engineering I want more speed,” Sonak demanded.
“Sir if we push the speed any faster you will lose power to the cloak,” replied engineering.
They were in a pickle and Sonak was running out of ideas. Just as she was about to speak, Hawk cut her off.
“Sir I have an idea I believe will get us free of these shadows,” Hawk insisted.
“Two minutes to intercept Captain,” injected an ensign.
Cornette turn in her chair to face Sonak and await her order. Sonak found herself surrounded by crew she did not know and was not sure if logic would be enough to save them all.
Sonak looked Kay straight in the eye and simply said, “Commander?”
Commander Cornette looked back and said with conviction, “I would trust Commander Hawk with my life.”
Sonak swung her command chair around to face Hawk and commanded, “DO IT MISTER.”
Hawk look at Kay and said, “You up to this Captain!”
“A walk in the park mister Hawk,” Kay said with confidents.
Hawk quickly relayed his tactical plan to Kay’s panel and after the smoke cleared…
Well what do you think happened?

Waiting to hear from the main ship, Byrne glanced upwards to see a plume of fire streaking thru the upper atmosphere shaped like a vessel he was dreading to see. Using the transporters in the Yacht, he created a link to the pads on the Majesty to create a halo to avoid any of the phaser fire from hitting the crew down on the surface.
Using the link inside his implants, he was able to download the information retrieved from the alignment of the beam sent out into space. Hearing scattered comm traffic, Byrne caught a passing mention of the Mercury enroute to the location of the Majesty. 'Great he thought, one down and back up on the way. At least this means that the Commodore was well and back in charge'. Hopefully he could back with Hawk and get the ball rolling. Getting the crew to secure the artifacts from the landing site, Byrne loaded the personnel into the yacht for an emergency liftoff. Keeping the lock trace with the transporters, the helmsman was able to get the craft back into upper orbit.
It was at that moment that a large spacial displacement occured in front of the Yacht. It was the Mercury coming to rest above the planet. Sending a command to the Mercury, she locked onto the Yacht with her tractor beams. After the ship decloaked, the Yacht docked with the Mercury, being the closer of the vessels.
After the docking procedure, Commander Byrne was given his position back as the CEO of the Vesuvius and headed to the Bridge to have the Commodore head out to the next following coordinates on the map. Now if he could only figure out the issues with Commander Aarons, he would be happier.
With all information communicated, Both vessels headed out leaving scattering fields to disrupt any following ships, they proceded to follow the direction of the beacon.

God of Plot: "Well what kind of mess is this?" This mission was not looking so well. Commander Aarons was the deus ex to remedy a tangent. Now that remedy was being impounded. "This just won't do." <forgive me for the reference> "Mecca-lecca high Mecca hiney-ho." poof! Commander Aarons sat at his post while all the fun was being had excavating old relics. Byrne: "How the hell did you get here!?" Aarons: ;D Trish: "Weren't you also supposed to be in some strange dimension with some old guy and Death?" God of Plot: "No, no. That never happened. Commander Aarons has been here, actively participating in this mission. And you," indicating Cmdr. Byrne, "tried get rid of this dedicated participant, shaaaammme! Now you are doomed to include him in the rest of the mission. Doomed. Doooooommmed!" Byrne: "But-" God of Plot: "Dooooooommmmed!!!"

Commodore Reckus and Captain Cornette led the party entering the bridge having finally caught up to the better of all ships in the 2nd Fleet (yeah I said it, wanna fight about it?). ;D Aarons: "Oh shirt!" As he turned to see his captain had returned. <yes I put the 'r' in myself> Kay: "Mr. Aarons, you took my ship?" Aarons: "Yes ma'am." Kay: "Left me stranded with a pregnant Vulcan chick who out ranks me a bunch and having to carry her around trying to escape?" Aarons: "Yes ma'am." Kay: "You demented b-stard." <tag Kay> At that moment Gaz entered the bridge a little unsure of his need there. Jamey: "Um, I'm looking for Commander Aarons, I'm supposed to be having a look at him." Kay: "Not now counselor, it won't be needed." Aarons: "No, no I'll take this one." He willingly accompanied the Vesuvius' counselor to wherever he was going. Having attained permission from Kedzie to use her office, Jamey began the proceedings. Jamey: "Well Commander, your file shows you to be an unusual person.-" Aarons: "'Unusual?' Waste of my ti..." His eager smile seemed to degrade into one of mere anticipation. "So what details about my disturbed life you want to discuss first?" Jamey: "Well now I think I should determine whether or not to diagnose you as disturbed." Aarons: "Not to long ago I was a hermaphrodite." Jamey: "OK you win." Aarons: "Better counselors than you have accomplished less." With that bit of comfort, he left Gaz to sit puzzled or maybe baffled in Kedzie's office. A short while later. The Majesty and Mercury-piece were underway for <tag Logan> when the next search team loaded up into Majesty's captain's yacht. Byrne: "What are you doing here!?" Aarons: "Surprise! You're not getting rid of me so easily this time." ;D Finally. TEG: "Where the hell am I?"

Now that the command of the Majesty has been handed back to Cornette, Byrne graciously watched as Aarons headed for the transporter to get back to his ship, where he would their problem, not his.

After coming from the Majesty and the very strange meeting with Commander Aarons, Jamey was back on Vesuvius' Mercury Module heading for the bridge. All the while thinking that he had never met an officer to so rudely dismiss his profession and simply walk out. It didn't really matter at the moment anyway simply because he was to report to the bridge.
On the turbo lift up, he was thinking about Liz and her confession to him. This wasn't the first time a patient had developed some emotional affection toward the Doctor... but this was the first time that he felt the same. He had never thought about a interspecies relationship before. He didn't really know what to do, however his heart was ready to approve of the relation.
Arriving on the bridge the scene resembled something from a chaotic situation. He noticed the CO, Sonak, in her seat with her head in her hand and the other rubbing the small of her back. She was sitting up on the edge of her seat as well making it look like she was ready to run.
"Doctor," Jamey said as he placed his hand on her shoulder, "are you alright?"
The look on her face was words enough and Jamey asked, "May I address the crew?" Sonak nodded and Jamey stood in the middle of the bridge.
"Crew," Jamey said in a authoritative yet calming voice, "I am new to this ship, however, it is during times like this we need to focus on our tasks and start putting the parts back together. Each of you have had more than adequate training in your fields and I know your CO has the up-most faith in you and your abilities. We don't have these ships to help us enjoy our lives ... we have our lives so we can enjoy the worlds and people we meet. Remember our directives and remember to focus on your task. Now, everyone take a deep breath and slowly exhale." The thick atmosphere on the bridge seem to thin out as each crew member starting to forget the external and focus only on their task... and in the Star Fleet way... things started to come together. "Good, now lets get this situation under control."
Jamey turned to Sonak and looked into her eyes and in a low whisper so she could only hear he said, "Doctor, these people need a leader... they are ready to do this... but they need to know what 'this' is." The two stayed in eye contact for what seemed to be forever, however it was only for a few seconds. Jamey took the seat next to the center chair and started to look a the sensor logs and current navigation displays. As he started out in Star Fleet as a Navigation's Officer he wanted to help.
He instantly noticed a small ship... "Doctor, there is a small craft approching... bearing 024 mark 035. I'm reading one lifesign..." pausing just a moment for the computer to display more information, "... it seems to be Ferengi."

On board the Majesty:
Will was a little nervous when he stepped out of the lift onto the bridge. Not because he hadn’t been here before but because of who was on it. He had always worked Beta shift on the bridge or was in the security office filing reports when not on duty. He wasn’t used to working with the “higher ups” as he called them.
“Ma’am, Commander Gypsy has taken ill and is being quarantined in sickbay until the doctor can figure out what’s wrong. I will be filling in during his absence.” Will said as he walked to the security station.

After Hawk and Kaylana co-ordinated their efforts to shake off their shadows by warping into a nebula, deploying and detonating space mines, Sonak was relieved when they finally reached the Majesty and even retrieved the Majesty's Yacht. Things were happening too fast for her to keep track, and she still hadn't gotten over the unexpected loss of her first officer as she hadn't had the time to mourn him.
She heard Jamey talking to her, but half of his words didn't quite register. Sonak knew these people, her crew and that of the Majesty, needed a leader but she wasn't too confident she was the right person to lead right now. She was keenly feeling the loss of her first officer and the seething over the way he was killed. Her security chief had also mutinied against her, and conspired with her late bondmate's assassin.
"Commander Gaz, I hereby appoint you as acting first officer until further notice," she finally spoke up as she got to her feet. She couldn't stand for too long but she couldn't sit comfortably right now either. "Contact the Majesty and issue them the set of co-ordinates Commander Byrne discovered. We also need to take back the rest of the ship."
Sonak cast Trey a sharp glance. "Assemble your MACO's Lieutenant Maverick! We have a ship to retake. Advise Majesty MACO and security teams to assist us in any way they can."
"Doctor, there is a small craft approching... bearing 024 mark 035. I'm reading one lifesign..." pausing just a moment for the computer to display more information, "... it seems to be Ferengi."
"Ferengi?" Sonak querried, "could that possibly be our new chief medical officer?" En passant she had caught a message about being assigned a new CMO, but she hadn't been told it would be a Ferengi. "This could be interesting. Advise that shuttle to dock in our shuttlebay, and have the occupant escorted to the bridge."
The Vulcan CO tapped her combadge. "Commander Byrne, engineering status!"

The words hit Jamey with a thud as if a hammer was swung in his direction and he didn't avoid it hit. Turning sharply toward Sonak her look proved her words as she continued with sounding off commands.
Jamey rushed to the FO's chair and sat down to enter his command codes for the computer's sake and then to carry out his first order as acting FO. He called up the communication screen and selected a secure channel to the Majesty and communicated the coordinates that was just given to the bridge by the CEO, Logan.
Turning the the crewman that was sitting at the CONN, Jamey reminded him to keep his eye trained on the beacon. Then addressing the Science station he instructed not to go heavy on the scattering fields as the very fields intended to disrupt any following ships would be as bread crumbs for them to follow.

Kay was glad to be back on her own ship. She surveyed her bridge and rejoiced in the fact that she wouldn't experience any sudden surprises. Due to her lack of frequent posts it had been decided to let Michael handle what she did and said for the while. Kay was also not the brightest captain in the fleet. Kay: "Hawk, until TEG pops up somewhere you shall act as first officer on this mission." Hawk: "Yes Captain! Thank you Captain!" Kay: "Hawk, not so eager." Hawk: "Yes Captain." Aarons: "Ah no fair! I never get to be first officer. What's so great about him?" Kay: "I happen to think he's a finger-lickin' good officer. Now prepare to set a course for the incoming coordinates." <tag> Majesty took off leaving the Mercury section in the dust for a second time this mission. It soon followed afterward.

TEG awoke in pitch darkness. The last thing he remembered was coming back to the Majesty after the initial briefing on the Falconians onboard the Vesuvius. TEG instinctively called for the computer. There was no response. TEG heard some scratching in the room he was in. He heard the familiar tones of the computer accepting a command. Around him from out of nowhere a landscape shimmered into existence. He was standing on a high cliff and below him was a burgeoning city. In the distance was a body of emerald water. He sensed movement behind him and turned around. Standing there was Lt. Falco, the Beta shift tactical officer, and partial savior of Kaylana.
"Where am I?" Asked TEG.
"We are standing on Mount Gyr, over looking the Falconian Captial City of Peregrine." Responded Falco.
"Why did you bring me here?" Asked TEG.
"Because I need to share with you what has happened to my people over the years. The truth, and not what Commander Hawk told you." Responded Falco.
"How is it different than the 'truth'?" Queried TEG further.
"Hawk knows much, but what he knows comes from Government propaganda, whereas my knowledge has been passed down through my flock for 476 generations."
Falco went to explain the true origins of the Falconians, why he had to remove TEG from the rest of the crew to share the information on the Holodeck, and why he felt that he could trust TEG to use the information for the better.
TEG understood what he had to do, and whom he needed to see.
Shortly thereafter, TEG, along with Falco, entered the bridge.
Captain Cornette was shocked to see TEG. With all the excitement, she had forgotten to search for him. It didn't really help though that he was taken a few days of leave for some R&R. TEG asked to speak to Kay in the ready room, which she agreed. As they walked, TEG noticed Falco's feathers ruffling, and gestured for him to follow.
Inside, TEG explained to Kay where he had been, and what had happened. She was not pleased with Falco's methods, but after hearing his story, she understood why he did it. Kay now knew where to find Falconia, but also knew that a great danger from the Falconians was enroute to both ships. Kay was unsure what to do, but somehow TEG knew she had a plan.

Nack landed his shuttle at the prescribed set of coordinates, performed his post trip procedures with the small runabout, and exited out the side hatch. Immediately he was received by two large security officers (well... large compared to Nack), and was led away before an explanation could be given.
The more Nack tried to convince that he was indeed the new CMO of the Vesuvius, the more intent the officers seemed on not believing him. The pips on his uniform could have been poker chips for all they cared.
Nack was almost at the breaking point. The past few days had been interesting, at best. To leave Starbase Conquerer, Nack had to hitch a ride with a Klingon transport vessel on its way back to Klingon space. Normally this would be fine, but the temperature aboard the ship was uncomfortably hot, and the transport vessel was slower than usual due to the over-sized shipment of hard ores. Once he reached the rendezvous point, a runabout on loan from Starfleet was handed off to him by an unknown party. After a day of searching at the coordinates given to him in subsequent messages from Starfleet Command, Nack was now in the hands of two brutes who wouldn't know a laser scalpel from their phasers.
"May I see the Captain of your ship? Commodore Reckus, I believe?"
The two Neanderthals looked at each other, as if to say "How did he know her name?", but no words came out except for "Bridge." which caused the turblift to accelerate.
"Well, it sounds like you guys actually believe me now." Nack felt satisfied, even though the officers still had tremendous doubt and were just following orders.
The turbolift doors opened, and security pushed Nack forward, as if he was a prisoner that had some answering to do.
A very pregnant Vulcan turned and nodded in acknowledgment. The security officers left, and Nack was left on the bridge with some curious looking crew.
".... Lieutenant Nack, reporting for duty...." Nack looked around, but couldn't immediately ascertain who was in charge. Nack managed to let out a nervous smile. "I have been assigned here as CMO."
"I am aware of that," Sonak replied, colder in tone than she intended. She could see the young man was nervous, though that seemed to be a permanent trait in his species.
Nack assumed the Commodore would have known he was coming aboard. With the case being that she had, Nack rationalized the not-so-perky response from the Commanding Officer finding out their new CMO was Ferengi. He blamed it on her Vulcan composure, and not on the fact that his race generally denoted the antithesis of bedside manner.
"...With your permission, ma'am, er.. sir.." Nack sighed. He was never good with pleasantries, "I would like to go back to my ship and unpack my belongings. I was escorted pretty hastily up to the bridge when I exited my ship, and you look pretty busy. I also have some reports I need to finish up from my previous post, and I was thinki..."
An interjected, "Proceed," from the Commodore cut short the long-winded response. "And I prefer to be addressed as ma'am or doctor." Nack took the hint and went back to unpack his belongings.

Fox smiles as te sensors of the Majesty picked up the Mercury module after it uncloaked. "Finally i can return to my own ship." he thought, not that he didn't enjoy sharing thoughts with Nik on the Majesty.
After a while he reported to the transporter room to get back to Mercury. He stepped on the platform and nodded to the chief "energize". Not much later he appeared on the transported platform on the Mercury. He quickly walked to one of the turbolifts and ordered it to go to the bridge.
There he stepped out and assumed his place behind the science station.

The group of people that had escaped from the cargo bay pretty much stuck together, but the security officers tried to organize them in a way so if they encountered hostile officers they would have a chance at fighting back. Which Kedzie frankly thought was ridiculous, if someone else was in charge of the ship, why wouldn't they choose to transport the people to the brig or similar, rather than confronting a group of rather upset people.
Someone had tried to offer her a weapon, apparently they had an extra or something, but Kedzie shook her head vehemently, and dropped back to the middle of the group, certainly not wanting to stay near the front.
“I'm going to try something,” Kedzie remarked softly to Darian, as she started working on dropping even more towards the back. She didn't think her attempt to communicate would alert those on the bridge of anything they were unaware of, but just in case she had overlooked something she didn't want to be in the middle of the group of people. She then tapped the commbadge she was wearing. </\>Kedzie to the bridge</\> she said.
</\>Main bridge unavailable</\> a computer voice replied, and Kedzie blinked rapidly a few times, not understanding why a main bridge would be simply unavailable. </\>Do you want to be connected to the Mercury module battle bridge?</\>
</\>Umm..Sure</\> Kedzie answered. After all, why not?..Okay, so there were numerous answers to that, but she didn't have any better ideas of what to do.
</\>Commodore Reckus here</\> said the Commanding Officer of the Vesuvius.
Kedzie had to think very briefly about what she was going to say now. She was aware that she couldn't ask for a status report, and she wanted to be careful how she asked what was going on so as not to be rude. </\>I was transported to the cargo bay. Do you know what happened, if you don't mind telling?</\> Kedzie frowned at her words as soon as they came out, she knew they didn't sound right, but she hoped that at the least they would make some sense to Commodore Reckus.

Sonak frowned. "Certainly," she then answered Majesty's counselor, "we have detached from the rest of the ship and are now docked with the Majesty." She continued explaining what happened.
"We have just taken a new doctor aboard, perhaps you and Doctor Janeway would care to meet with him?"
(Kedzie)
"His name is Nack, I believe he headed towards sickbay. Commander Gaz, perhaps you would care to join Miss Kedzie?"
(Gaz/Kedzie)
After finishing her conversation, Sonak tapped her combadge. "Commander Byrne, report to the bridge." She had heard something about new co-ordinates and artifacts being recovered, but she wanted to hear from Logan himself...even though she had read the reports.

Stressed from all of what happened in the past day, Byrne gathered all of the data recovered from the mission to the planet and headed for the Bridge. Upon arriving, he noticed the Commodore slumped in her seat, massaging her temples. Looking for Martens, Byrne asked,"Where's the FO?". Fox shot him a don't ask glance. A voice spoke up. "Commander Martens was attacked in the Ready Room right after the moment you were transported from this ship. He is believed dead.", came the stale voice of the Commodore. "Do you have my report?", she asked. Handing her the PADD with the updated information of the ship's current status, Byrne moved towards the Conn console. "This is what we learened from the mission to the planet Acanar. The beacon is a stepping stone to the next destination. I am downloading the new coordinates into the system now. I need Commander Hawk to help me translate the symbols on this totem. Do you know where he is? Our new destination is 002 by 130 Mark65. Target is the Paulson Nebula, about 17 hours with a warp factor 8.5. We can reach it faster, but I would need to kill the cloak. And after what I have seen, we need it, especially with us prancing thru Klingon space and being so close to Federation space." With that, he activated the Main Viewer and showed the plotted course and the totems he found on the planet. <TAG Hawk>

Aarons: "That guy looks familiar." Hawk: "That's Falco. Someone decided to dust off that accursed mcnugget and now he's up to something." Aarons: "Nah, not him, the fat guy." ;D Hawk: "That's our first officer you moron!" Aarons: "Oh yeah! How come I don't remember him being Falconian?" Hawk: "Because the last time we used him, your lazy [word deleted] stopped reading the mission as you were too distracted with the real world." Aarons: "Then why hadn't anyone else addressed that he was a Falconian aboard when we were asked to join in this mission?" Hawk: "Because only TEG would remember such an unremarkable one-shot character as him." Aarons: "Gee, I hope anyone reading this post learned something." God of Plot: "You know you just got used as exposition again." Aarons: "Dammit!"

Nack wandered through the corridors once the turbolift dropped him off on the deck where his shuttlebay had landed. He didn't bring much, and didn't need anything in particular at this moment, but he wanted to make sure some of his personal effects were safely aboard the Vesuvius.
With tooth-sharpener and pictures of mom and dad in tow, Nack headed toward his assigned quarters, to which the computer was much obliged to give its input on directions. He had just set his things down, when his com-badge went off.
=/\= Dr. Nack =/\=
=/\= Dr. Nack here =/\= "Doctor" sounded so much better than "Cadet".
=/\= You are needed down here in sickbay. We have someone wounded, and the burn is pretty bad =/\=
=/\= Check all of their vitals, stabilize them, and get the dermal regenerator ready. I'll be down there quickly. Dr. Nack out =/\=
Nack made haste as he skipped out of his room. He was half way down the hall when he found a computer console, checked for directions, and headed for the turbolift again.
Arriving at sickbay a few moments later, Nack tried to take action, but was blocked by an overzealous nurse.
"Excuse me sir, but this patient is in critical care. We are waiting for the Dr."
Apparently the blue on his uniform, the two pips, and the news of a Ferengi on board hadn't caught up with this nurse.
"Well... you are looking at him." Nack smiled. His approach, he told himself, was to blow off any assumptions people had made about their new CMO.
The apologetic medic stepped aside after giving a bashful smile. Nack turned to find an unused computer console, but the one nearest the wounded... human? - Nack would have to look into the database... anyway, the console was flashing a picture of a birdlike creature, and simultaneously displaying an associated helical DNA section. Unfamiliar with either, and having someone's life to save, Nack cleared the screen and went to work.
Nack imported the previous vitals. His name was Teyno, but Nack couldn't find any other relevant information. Previous treatments treated him as if he was human, but that was only a guess.
So be it. Nack dematerialized Teyno's clothing, established neurotropic emitters near the damaged nerve cells of the eyes and nose, and used a dermal regenerator on the 2nd and 3rd degree burns of the skin. Teyno was unconscious through all of this due to the sedation he was given prior to Nack's arrival.
Luckily, this wasn't a plasma burn, only a high density EM pulse of some sort. However, Teyno would have to remain in sickbay under light sedation while the neurotropic emitters rebuilt his visual acuity.
Now that the patient was stable, Nack cleaned himself off in the sonic cleanser next to the procedural table, and made his way over to his new office. As he sat down, the door to sickbay opened.
<anyone?>
OOC: Can someone use the tag to tell Nack what's currently going on. At this point, Dr. Nack doesn't know anything really about the current mission...

Sonak couldn't believe it; Byrne hadn't even heard about Nick's death. All he seemed to care for were the artefacts he recovered from that planet, and talking to Hawk about them. Inside, she was seething with anger but she knew it wouldn't do to blow it out on the chief engineer. After all didn't everyone have their own hobbies? And she had approved the hunt, Nicks death had just been unforseen and unfortunate.
She pinched the bridge of her nose between two fingers and closed her eyes briefly, fighting back tears. "The Falconians attacked us," she explained, her voice strained as she spoke, "and one of them threw something at Commander Martens, evaporating him. They escaped, Commander Kanz and Miss Martens took over the ship but we managed to escape using Mercury."
She paused, exchanging a pained look with Jamey, who had not yet left the bridge. "Commander Gaz is now acting first officer until further notice. Please explain to him what you have in mind. I am going to sickbay, I have a headache and I am feeling unwell." That and she had a new CMO to brief.
Minutes later she walked into Mercury's sickbay, where she found the Ferengi overing over her injured mission specialist. "How is he?" she asked as she approached. Sonak looked extremely tired, and her expression was drawn. She motioned to the CMO's office where she briefed Nack on the situation. "And on top of that I have a headache and I am feeling unwell," she added, "would you please take care of that for me?"
At seven and a half months pregnant, Sonak started to tire easily, something which she found both annoying and worrysome. With her previous pregnancies she had stayed on full duty until she had to give birth, but this one was different. Quietly, she mused whether it was because in this pregnancy human genes were involved.

"Mercury is prepping for departure," L'Ola reported from Tactical.
"Seems Nick wasn't as thurough as we thought. Let them go," Kate said from the command chair. She didn't even bother turning around from to look at L'Ola.
The ship shuddered as the Mercury departed. Lights dimmed as the computer re-organised itself to the loss of one of the three sections. Without warning a panic beep resonated throughout the bridge.
"Intruder alert on Deck 4," the computer reported.
"Shields and cloak have dropped!!" T'Lanna blurted, she looked up with a paniced look.
"This can't be possible," L'Ola said stunned from her station. "I'll go check it out. You keep following the Falconians."
"Alright. Be safe," Kate said, still look at the screen. L'Ola stepped into the turbolift and the doors closed behind her. No sooner than the doors closed a blast shook the ship.
"Prefect has decloaked and is moving in on us. Our pursuit has been exposed."
Another bone jarring round impacted the hull. A fire broke out in one of the science consoles and the computer isolated it with a forcefield.
"Fire back already!" Kate said, she glared at T'ag who was staring at the controls.
"I can't, the computer changed languages on me!"
Kate rushed over to his station and pushed him out of the way. The interface had changed to to a rare dialect of telarite. Another round imacted the ship, this time just below the ready room. Panels from the ceiling tumbled down raining sparks as they fell. Conduits and wires also tumbled down like snakes coming out of a tree, hissing and sputtering.
"Report!" Kate blurted, pulling herself up off the deck. Klang was dead at the helm, a support strut had impailed him through the back and into the floor.
T'lana limped over to her monitoring station, her leg evidently shattered in a couple places.
"We've taken heavy damage to the structure around the bridge. Decks 1-6 have taken extensive damage. The ready room is decompressed."
Another volley ripped the front half of the bridge wide open to the effects of space. All the debris and whatnot flew out into the abyss. The computer struggled to create a forcefield but eventually succeeded.
"Get out of here," Kate yelled through the thin atmosphere. Her ears and nose bleeding from the decompression. T'lana hobbled into the turbolift and waited for Kate to follow. T'ag held her up in the turbolift
"I'm sorry," Kate said and hit the close button on the panel. T'lana moved for the door but it closed faster than she could move.
"Here birdy birdy," Kate said climbing to the command chair. She moved some paneling and sat down. Pulling up tactical command she locked onto the Falconian ship. The consol registered another round being fired from the Falconians, she in turn hit the fire button and heard the phasers and torpedos rattle off.
A bluw light slowly filled the bridge, she looked up. There out in the blackness of space she saw a torpedo moving towards the Vesuvius. It got closer and closer, she knew exactly what was to happen. She closed her eyes and sat back in the chair waiting for the end. Blue light filled the bridge and radiated through her closed eyes.
~~Outside~~
The quantum torpedo flew into the bridge. Split seconds later the area which once was the bridge was nothing but an expanding cloud of debris. The Vesuvius slowly listed to one side as power fluctuated throught the ship. The falconian cruiser hung around for a few minutes then cloaked and departed leaving a battered starship behind. Holes marred the upper decks of the Vesuvius, presumably where the Falconians had detected life forms.

Will stood quitely at his stain reading and catching up on the mission. Thus far, there hadn't been too much for him to do.

Kay shifted in her seat trying to get comfortable. She quieted the urge to shout out the lines, “Someone has been sitting in my chair” in her best imitation of a gruff, bear-like voice. After a while, her backside finally settled in to its familiar grooves – deep, no, cavernous ones - made by the illustrious “Big” Bill himself. At the precise moment her gluteus maximus began to feel at home again, TEG burst on to the bridge with Falco on his heels. Whisking her away to the Captain’s Ready Room, the two of them unfolded the facts of their newest conundrum.
After their briefing, she dismissed them both and sat for a while, alone, trying to make sense of all she had just been told. Briefly, Kay returned to the bridge to execute new orders. She couldn’t help but give Hawk a dubious stare as she entered.
Aarons was sitting quietly at his station which immediately captured Kay’s notice.
“Mr. Aarons, you seem overly subdued. Are you feeling well?” she asked.
“Funny, I don’t think the Vesuvius crew would agree with your assessment of my being ‘subdued’.”
“Hmm, well, you’ll have to remember, they aren’t as used to your antics as we are.” Changing the subject swiftly, she added, “Stay with the Mercury module. Coordinate with Mr. Byrne regarding our next destination.”
“We’ve received coordinates and have altered course to the Paulson Nebula.” Aarons swiveled in his chair and, with a devious twinkle in his eye added, “We could easily get there before they do with just a little tap of my finger… right…here.” Aarons hovered his fingertip over the warp speed accelerator. “I’m certain our new Engineer, Kiara, would love the opportunity to ratchet the engines up to warp 9, or better.”
“Now, now, Mr. Aarons… this isn’t a competition,” Kay admonished. “Match course and speed of the Mercury.”
Soberly, Aarons responded, “Aye, aye.” Muttering under his breath, added, “You’re no fun.”
Kay lingered on the bridge, trying to decide whether or not to confront Hawk about what Falco had said. As if reading her thoughts, Hawk approached her hurriedly.
“Captain, I feel I may be of better use on the Mercury. Commander Byrne would like for me to assist him in translating the writings on the totem we found while on Acanar.” He shifted his weight from one leg to the other appearing quite eager to leave.
“Before you go, could you please join me for a moment in my Ready Room?”
Grudgingly, Hawk replied, “Affirmative,” and he headed toward the door. TEG immediately rose from his chair to follow, but Kay held up her hand in a gentle halt to his overzealous strides to catch up with their COO.
“I need to do this alone, Number One.” Reluctantly, TEG complied. “You have the Bridge,” Kay said and left him to mind the store.
Once they were in the quiet, Kay solemnly asked questions as Hawk repeatedly paced the breadth of the room.
“We’ve known each other a long time,” she began weakly, not knowing exactly what to say. “This present journey has brought some disturbing facts to light. One, most notably, being my discovery that I don’t know you as well as I thought.”
“With the exception of one other human, you know me better than anyone outside of my home world,” Hawk answered, matter-of-factly.
Unsatisfied with his answer, Kay went on. “This mission has led me to believe you have many, many secrets… and those secrets could compromise your loyalty to me, to this ship and to your Starfleet oath.” Kay felt her heart pounding in her chest, knowing duty required her inquiry but desperately wanting to stop this line of accusations.
Hawk suddenly stopped his pacing and faced Kay, moving decisively closer as he spoke. “The secrets I keep from you are necessary to ensure the safety of my people.” His eyes flashed and his silvery feathers surrounding his head stood up like the hair on the back of a cornered cat. He suddenly broke off his stare and walked toward the viewport, gathering himself before he became angry. “Duke has always respected my privacy – he has never questioned my loyalty or thought of my silence as treachery. Why do you accuse me of it when he never has?” He turned to face her again, this time his eyes searching hers for an answer.
Kay gazed at the floor and took in a sharp breath, followed by a heavy sigh. She rubbed her chin lightly with her hand, pausing briefly to contemplate her next words. “Ensign Falco has shared some information with TEG and I which points to your race as causing the sinking of Atlantis… not being a victim of it.”
As if volume begat truth, Hawk squawked loudly, “Those are… ancient fairy tales… handed down by a nefarious sect of my people! They have no basis in fact,” he nervously added.
Kay peered deeply into the eyes of her friend. “That’s not all. The ancient civilization, known as the Incas, have long been said to have met their demise at the hand of the Spanish Conquistadors by either the sword or the introduction of European diseases. But, with the new information Falco has shared, it seems more likely that they were murdered by Falconians.”
Hawk bristled noticeably at the accusation, but remained silent.
Kay continued, “And, for centuries, Earth's inhabitants have scoffed at the notion that the immense drawings on the Nazca Plain in Peru were landing strips for alien space craft. Falco claims they are, indeed, aerial landmarks, placed there to point the way for ancient Falconian starships. He described your people as treacherous, malevolent. According to his flock's oral history, your tribe enslaved the ancient Peruvians, forced them to assist in building space-worthy ships and then, because of their exposure to advanced technology, slaughtered them by the thousands before escaping to your homeworld. Your people desire seclusion not because they fear they will be hunted by humans… but because they fear humanity’s vengeance.”
Visibly shaken, Hawk sputtered, “It isn’t true! Falco’s only ¼ Falconian… his tribal blood is thin… as thin as his basis for these lies!” Hawk began to grind his tightly clenched teeth. His jaw tensed and flexed as his feathers continuously ruffled.
“I want to believe you… it’s just that Falco’s story does coincide with Earth’s archeological record. It explains the drawings on the Nazca Plain. It explains why the Incas, who were a thriving civilization, vanished suddenly and …” Kay trailed off. She wanted to add that it now made perfect sense why he was so secretive about his past. She felt betrayed and fearful that she had naively led mankind into what could be another bloody confrontation with the Falconians. Could it be, she thought, her trusted friend of all these years was actually a spy – gathering information for the Imperium, informing them of Starfleet’s weaknesses and formulating when best to strike?
Just as fear was welling up within her, the thought suddenly struck her that there was another explanation. Forming her thoughts as she spoke, she drew near Hawk who was again staring out the viewport.
“What if Falco’s right and you and the remaining flocks have been told a fictitious story all these centuries?” Kay asked softly. “What if the lost flocks of your people left clues in this ‘Book of Birds’ we’re hunting so that the truth would eventually be known?”
Her words struck a chord with Hawk. Slowly, ponderously he said, “The two lost flocks were the 1st flock – the ruling class – and the 2nd flock – the scholars and physicians. The scholars were said to be excessively meticulous in their keeping of the Falconian history.”
Kay placed a supportive hand on Hawk’s shoulder. “That’s a logical explanation. It would make sense that your people would want to skew their historical account. No one wants to look like a despot or a purveyor of genocide even if it is the truth. Earth historians sanitized their accounts – exaggerating victories, downplaying their losses – it only makes sense that the Falconians would do the same.” Kay extrapolated further. “It also makes sense that a sect… or flock… of your people would want very much for this information to remain hidden... and that those meticulous scholars would be bent on making certain the truth was revealed - perhaps leaving markers pointing the way to the true story.”
“Yes,” Hawk said, the pieces of the puzzle coming together in his mind, “Like the predecessors of Prefect Aegypius of the Falconia Imperium,” he said, the seed of thought growing in him. "He could very well be a part of the flock desperate to keep our true past secret."
Kay was suddenly sullen. She inwardly chastised herself for assigning the horrors of Hawk’s ancestors to her friend and COO, if only for a brief time. She hung her head, ashamed of herself. “I must apologize.”
“You have nothing to apologize for, Captain.”
“Oh, yes… I do.” Kay walked to her desk and sat down. “I was blaming you for the despicable crimes of Falconians born eons before you. I don’t know why I did.”
Hawk crossed in front of her desk, placed his hands on its cool, hard surface and leaned in to his friend. “Perhaps it’s because I’m too secretive.”
Kay looked up into his face, an infinitesimal smile at the corners of his mouth, and she gave a small smile in return.
“Let’s get you to the Mercury. We'll find that book… and prove, or flatly disprove, all of our grand theories here,” Kay said and Hawk left the room, heading for the transporter.
Kay followed after him, watched him disappear into the turbolift and then turned to the new officer now minding the CTSO post.
“And you are…?” she asked him.
“Lt. Commander Wil Jamision, sir!” he snapped with all the rigor of his youth and training.
“Glad to have you aboard, Commander.” She moved in closer and spoke softly so as not to arouse curiosity from the rest of the bridge crew. “For your first assignment, I want you to tail our COO, Commander Hawk – the strange looking bird that just left my Ready Room.” Kay nodded toward the lift. “He’s heading for the Mercury. I’ll clear your transport over to their ship with the Commodore. Stay close to him but try not to tip him off that you’re following him.”
“Aye, Captain,” the eager officer responded, happy to have something to do at last.
TEG eyed Kay as she sank back into her center chair. Knowing he was studying her, she said to him, flatly. “I’m being cautious, Number One - making sure my trust in Hawk isn’t misplaced.”
“Or your friendship blinding you to the facts,” he added knowingly.

Hawk left the Captain’s ready room very disturbed over all the different accusations, which have come from two or three different sources. Falco happened to be at the ops station filling in for Hawk. They both locked in a stare that would ruffle the feathers of the best of us. Hawks was heated with some anger but mostly disappointment in his friend and Falco’s was cold with hurt and disbelief.
Hawk was hurt deeply to hear that even Falco has appeared to have betrayed his people but not surprised. Falco was only ¼ Falconian and his grandmother, a full blooded Falconian who was very influential in her flock, has always held Hawk’s father responsible for the death of many of her family and friends. This happened long before Falco was born during a battle for all Falconian’s survival and Hawk’s father made a decision which saved thousands of lives but also cost a few hundred lives from Falco’s flock. Falco’s grandmother and her flock have been outspoken against most of the Falconian leadership’s policies, especially where Hawk’s father was concerned.
Hawk wondered, as he headed for the transporter room if indeed his father, who’s name is Condor, had held something’s back from his people and even from him. Could it be that there is a horrible truth about the Falconian past and Condor was just trying to protect his people from that awful history; or could it be that Condor really does not know the truth anymore than Hawk does and was not eager to find out in the light of all the possible myths.
Hawk decided in his own mind that whatever the truth was, he must know!
Hawk stepped onto the transporter pad and requested the Vesuvius be informed that he was beaming over. He also requested that Commander Byrne meet him in the Vesuvius transporter room.

“Aye, Captain.” replied Will. He was finally glad to have a mission. He singled for his replacement and when she arrived a few moments later, he headed for the transporter room.
When he entered the room, the chief spoke before Will could say a word. "Commander Jamison. Everything is all set, sir. Commander Hawk went over several moments ago and the Captain told me to expect you. We're ready when you are."
Will stepped up on the transporter padd and simply nodded. "Energize."

Aarons: "Welcome to the Paulson Nebula, just think a bunch of diffused molecular clouds collapsed under their own gravity probably due to some nearby supernova." The mistifying swirling colors seemed to surprisingly hypnotize those who viewed it. Aarons: "It's a Class 2 so naturally we can't rely completely on our sensors." Michael slid the specs PADD across the conference table. Nik: "Not unless Hawk could show us some Falconian sensor array that might help us cut through the dreck." Hawk became discernably unsettled by that comment. Byrne: "I'm sure something can be done about that." Lt. Sienta meanwhile new she was going to her new work cut out for her. <yes they came aboard for this.> Gypsy: "My concern is whether the Falconians will have a tactical advantage over us while we are in there." Cmdr. Gypsy seemed very tense at being at a tactical loss in the eyes of an adversary whom had already shown a superiority when both ships were at the fullest. Now they had been reduced to 1 1/3. Aarons: "I don't think that's necessarily going to be a problem. While we're in there, they will have a hard time detecting us in there. If it was a matter of them detecting us they would have already attacked us as they have demonstrated an ability to surprise us out of nowhere." Sonak: viewscreen["I agree with Mr. Aarons, if their intentions were to attack us, they would have already done so. The only possibility is that they hope for us to lead them somewhere."] The commodore had joined them through the screen. It was easier to let the men go over to the Majesty since they didn't have 8lbs. still gestating inside them. ["Besides, we will still fight with all that can be mustered out of Mercury."] Kay: "Well I guess we have no choice but to proceed on in."
