After a week of being docked into Earth's orbital dock, the Vesuvius was now released from her moorings and slowly, but gracefully slid back into open space. At the helm, Tovan worked his console with expert precision, while at operations, Thorad announced communiqués coming from Earth and the station itself.
In the centre seat, Sonak gazed at the main viewscreen while beside her, to her left sat Counselor Donovan Daye. The young counselor seemed to have found his place among the crew, and was now quietly observing the senior staff as they worked. Psychological evaluations were yet to be conducted, but the Vulcan was certain they would be called up in turn any time now.
"Take her out Mr Tovan," she ordered, as she automatically glanced to her right, where usually Nick Martens sat. Nick was still cooped up in sickbay, after his hard fall on the bridge. D'Angelo was doing the best he could for the well-liked first officer, but even he could only do so much. As there was nothing more to be done on Earth, it was decided Nick would remain under D'Angelo's care until a next of kin would show up to decide otherwise. Until such time, Logan still acted as first officer and now sat on Sonak's right, quietly browsing through his just obtained engineering reports.
"Anything to report?" Sonak querried, with veigned interest. She knew Logan would rather be in engineering, where he belonged, but as acting first officer, his place was on the bridge. Glancing over at the science station, she nodded towards Fox. "Status of long range scanners?"
She waited for Fox's response, then acknowledged L'Ola's wave for attention. "Commander?" she querried, then listened as the security chief delivered her security and tactical report. "And what of Lieutenant Maverick?" Sonak countered her report, "is he prowling through the Jeffries system again? Hunting for the enemy that is not yet there?"
"Ma'am, priority call coming in from Bellicose," Thorad called from OPS, "it's your eyes only ma'am. New orders, Admiral Clark says."
"I will take it in my readyroom. Logan, with me please. As first officer, this concerns you as well. " Together, they entered her private office and activated her desk computer. "Go ahead admiral."
"Commodore, this is highly unusual," Clark remarked as he spotted Logan. Then he shrugged and continued. "You may remember Commander Ma'Jel..." As he watched the Vulcan woman nod, he continued. "She reports that a group of Diplomats assigned to the Romulan senate have been abducted and she requested your help specifically to get them back. Her ship will rendez-vous with you at the edge of Romulan space. You are to provide aid wherever you can, but at all cost protect the diplomats, no matter where they are from."
Before Sonak could make any further response, Clark signed off. Sighing, she walked back onto the bridge, looking a little pale. "We have been ordered into Romulan space," she announced, turning to Thorad. "Prepare to engage the cloaking device as soon as we left the Sol system."
"Yes ma'am," the Andorian replied, returning his attention to his console.
"Briefing will be in fifteen minutes. L'Ola, see that you locate Trey. I will not tolerate his absence from a briefing again. And find me any information you can on a group of diplomats assigned to the Senate. You may find that a Rick van Breughel is among them..." She trailed off as she sat back down in her seat, her usually stoic expression having made way for a very worried frown.

Marco shoved back from his seat and looked down at his hands, of which the thumbs were running circles around each other. As Commodore Reckus finished her briefing, the thumb twirling stopped, and Marco let out a sigh. He sprang up from his chair, trying to appear eager to start the mission. On the contrary, though, he was more intent on getting back to sickbay. At least there he could sit with a pleasant looking nurse, and chat things up a bit. There was that one nurse, her name was...
"Doctor, how is our First Officer doing?" Sonak queried, when people started filtering out of the room.
"Beautiful!"... "I mean, good. His vitals are stable, we are still keeping him under for a few more days until the swelling goes down. The ant-inflammatory medications were giving him complications, so we backed down on those a bit." Doctor D'Angelo gave a more-detailed-than-usual response to the Commodore, who was a doctor herself. Most Captains needed clarification.
Marco dismissed himself. He had catching up to do on Romulan physiology. It had been awhile since he had Romulan patients. Although similar to Vulcans, he knew there were differences.
He was fooling himself, though. He knew, depending on who was on staff, he would probably get sidetracked in conversation with one of the nurses that were on duty. He put his hand through his hair, fixing it as he got on the turbolift.
The ride was seemingly longer than usual. He started thinking about the past few months, and his inferiority complex, even though he was good looking. The only person who he had shown it to was Sonak, at which time he asked her for some sort of counselor. Had he known, however, that that... that boy... was going to be his counselor, he wouldn't have got his hopes up.
His suave attitude turned to a spiteful one as he thought about the incidents back at the past academy with the counselor.
The sickbay doors open, and Marco's attention was distracted by who was on duty. "I'm baa-aacck" he said playfully. Walking in, he told himself that he probably should be giving the counselor a chance at some point. For now, he had someone to occupy his thoughts.

After much persuasion that had verged on bribery Marco had agreed to let L'Ola go straight back to Bridge duty as soon as they left Earth. It had helped her case that it was difficult to physically see the damage that had been done to her, only one of the many scans conducted had picked up abnormalities. Thanks to the mild painkillers the doctor had given her she didn't need to focus half her mental energy on blocking the pain, so she was fit for duty.
Of course there had been the condition of regular check-ups to make sure nothing had changed. And no doubt that new counsellor would want to talk to her about the experience, the thought of which made her shudder. But the security chief had made a condition of her own. Because her injury wouldn't make any difference to her work she wanted it to stay confidential to sickbay staff. And while Marco recommended that she told Sonak, he had to honour her wishes.
Thinking, not for the first time, that the security station was designed with taller people in mind, L'Ola checked up on the ship's status again. She had discovered that double checking things after shoreleave was very useful, especially as people had a nasty habit of transferring in and out at the last minute. She motioned to Sonak that she had something to report.
"Commander?"
"All crew accounted for, almost the entire complement reported back in this time. Got some new civilians as well who have to be briefed on ship security procedures. No problems experienced while we were docked. However there is some ongoing maintenance happening on the torpedo bays, so give me advanced notice if we're gonna need them."
Sonak acknowledged the report and a question along a similar theme, "And what of Lieutenant Maverick? Is he prowling through the Jeffries system again? Hunting for the enemy that is not yet there?"
L'Ola smiled, "Yes he is, Ma'am. I did tell him that the security sweeps were completed but he didn't seem to believe me."
As Sonak left to take the call coming in, the security chief took a look at the room around her. It was strange how everything looked exactly the same and yet completely different at the same time. It almost seemed like she was seeing people in only 2 dimensions instead of 3.
Her train of thought was interrupted as the Commodore reappeared on the Bridge. "Briefing will be in fifteen minutes. L'Ola, see that you locate Trey. I will not tolerate his absence from a briefing again. And find me any information you can on a group of diplomats assigned to the Senate. You may find that a Rick van Breughel is among them..."
She mentally rolled her eyes and entered the command to pinpoint the marine's exact location. She couldn't help but wonder how many security officers had to have a shortcut from their console to do that. Selecting the appropriate pre-recorded message to be transmitted once the search was complete she moved onto the next task at hand.
Something about the name van Breughel seemed naggingly familiar, but it wasn't until she did the search on Senate diplomats that she realised why. What she saw worried her, and L'Ola was just about to start a telepathic conversation with Sonak to check she was okay when it dawned on her that she couldn't. Which seemed weird. Very, very weird.

Van strolled down the halls of the Vesuvius on his way to the bridge. He was still slightly uncomfortable onboard the ship, but he was begining to find his footing. He'd reviewed nearly thirty crewmembers already and was starting to feel confident about all those methods he'd practiced in med school. There was a bit of a bounce in his step and he smiled at everyone he passed, especially those he'd already reviewed.
He arrived on the bridge with a smile and a crisp new uniform. The new counselor remained in the background as he was prone to do, walking around each station. It was a methodology he'd learned from an experienced betazoid scientist in med school. His immediate diagnosis could be more than 75 percent more effective if he was present when and where the patients suffered the most stress and very few things stressed people more than their work.
"Briefing will be in fifteen minutes. L'Ola, see that you locate Trey. I will not tolerate his absence from a briefing again. And find me any information you can on a group of diplomats assigned to the Senate. You may find that a Rick van Breughel is among them..."
With that the Commodore preceded toward the briefing room and Van tenatively moved to follow her. Suddenly, he felt a strange mental pressure. A unique feeling that often had something to do with telepathic connectivity. He scowled at nothing and closed his eyes. He took a step back and tilted his head to the side and his eyes opened to extremely puzzled looks. He smiled haphazardly at the assorted officers and he turned to look directly at the security station. He straightened himself and walked casually over to the station.
"Good day, Commander," he said politely presenting his hand, "I'm afraid we haven't yet met. My name is Donovan Daye and I've been rather anxious to make your acquaintance considering your most recent experiences."

Sitting at his new command post, Byrne just kept finding himself trying not to tap his fingers on the console next to him. Relieved once the communication arrived from Admiral Clark, he rose to the Ready Room following Commodore Sonak to catch a glimpse of his old commander. Once the message was completed, he exited the Ready Room to inform Main Engineering of the upcoming mission and to make sure all of the reports were ready for the Commodore's inspection.
Watching the new counselor, he kept running his mind that moments ago, he was trying to calm this young lad in a hallway closet during a mission out of time.
Motioning to the young officer, he directed him to the station to the left of the command chair. This would allow him to keep a better eye on the crew in action.
Taking a small moment to jump off the Bridge until the briefing, Logan headed down to Sickbay to see how the young commander was fairing since her return to the ship. Stopping by his quarters on the way, he was able to freshen up a bit.
Exiting his quarters, he came across Jatan. Nodding his head in acknowledgment, he tried to pass him. Just as he past his shoulder, Jatan commented," I know what you did, I would have too." And kept walking.

Fox had hurried back when he got the message the Vesuvius would be leaving again. He had enjoyed his time off on Bellicose, now he stood at his station on the bridge again, thinking a little back about this shoreleave. He had not noticed Sonak turned to him.
Status of long range scanners?
Quickly he looked at Sonak and then to his console. Quickly giving his report. "A few cargo vessels heading for bellicose looking at their course. Ion trails along de edge of our sensor range, probably of starships leaving. Nothing unusual." Fox nodded back to Sonak. She continued asking for reports.
After the message from Bellicose arrived and Sonak came back from the readyroom after a short visit there she ordered a meeting in the briefing room. Fox left his station and walked to the room. There he sat down on a chair, curious about what assignment they received this time.
While he sat there across Sonak and Daye the rest of the senior staff walked in.

"Good day, Commander, I'm afraid we haven't yet met. My name is Donovan Daye and I've been rather anxious to make your acquaintance considering your most recent experiences."
She shook his hand, "L'Ola Kanz, as you no doubt already know. And it's always good to get to know new officers, easier to keep tabs on you all that way." She grinned at him. It was definitely true that she liked to keep a check on everyone on board. She also liked to steer conversations away from 'recent experiences', especially when talking to new counsellors.
Not that it generally worked. "I'm conducting crew reviews at the moment. You wouldn't believe how out of date the records seem to be."
"Oh I think I would" L'Ola couldn't help but think that her record was probably one of the least up-to-date on the ship. Still, until she was directly asked...
"Will I be seeing you for your review soon?"
That was too close to avoid any more, "Tell you what, you pick a time when I'm not monitoring the entire ship for security issues and I'll let you know if I can make it."

After setting course for the Romulan border and calling for replacement, Tovan strode towards the briefing room. The recent mission had been taxing on his discipline, and he hoped that the trip towards the Romulan border would be uneventful. For if he knew anything, he knew that a trip beyond the Neutral Zone would likely be anything but uneventful. In fact, he wouldn't be at all surprised if he ended up doing some fancy maneuvering before they were back in Federation space. He couldn't help noticing Sonak's face looked a little pale, a sign that not all was right. That and the cloaking device let him know that something was up.
As he took his seat at the conference table, Tovan hoped that he wouldn't have to come into contact with too many Romulans. It may not be logical, but he always considered the blatant emtionalism of a race so close to Vulcan ... distasteful. And with his recently shaky control, Tovan wasn't so sure what might happen...

Donovan smiled at the commander and tried his very best to put her at ease, but she didn't want to talk to him, that much was obvious. He nodded to himself and considered.
"By the way, if you want a stronger telepathic link, I would suggest using your empathic abilities to enhance your connection," he said in what he hoped was a private aside, "Of course, to do that, you would have actually admit that you have them ... naturally."
She glared at him and he smiled.
He attempted to make a telepathic connection and his smile slid from his face. He glanced at her and frowned.
"Commander, are you alright?" he asked weakly, "You seem to be ... nevermind ... I must implore you to come and see me soon."
With that Van sidled away from the commander and approached the Commodore. She was at the top of his list and she wasn't going to slither out of it this time.
"Commodore, please excuse me, but you neglected to set up an appointment for your review," he said as respectfully as he possibly could, "Should I anticipate something soon or shall I be forced to make an appointment for you?"
The vulcan flashed him a look that could have been annoyed, but of course, it was hard for a vulcan to not appear to be annoyed.
"I have some free time now, Ensign," she replied smoothly.
With that she led the way to the lift and Van had to all but run to keep up with her.
"However, I do not have the time to wait for a casual walk," she added as he lept into the lift behind her.
"Aye, Ma'am."
A few moments later they were in Van's new office on deck two. He behind his desk and the Commodore lying uncomfortably on the couch. She'd attempted several times to sit up, but Van had insisted that it was the best way to do things. Eventually, she'd settled into a position, but she clearly wished to sit up and scowl at him.
"I understand your brother is currently missing," Van continued after the immediate acquaintance questions had been asked and answered, "How does that make you feel?"

"If I could tell you something, I would- but the Commodo... your wife ...made the mission classified. I am only able to discuss what happened with others on the mission, and only for the purpose of piecing together key events."
Jatan understood, but that didn't make him any easier. Logan's funny actions, and his wife's brief discussion, had made the gentle doctor's worries greater than they needed to be.
"I assure you, you have nothing to worry about. You have to remember, none of us were really ourselves... I mean we were in younger bodies." That much, was not classified, only because the doctor had checked the physiological effects on the travel, and had determined that each of the officers had a period of rapid metabolic activity recently... that only could be explained by their bodies aging years in the span of a few seconds. "And, while younger, we all had younger, less constrained emotions." Jatan lifted his eyebrows and bobbed his head, giving the signal that he's very interested in Marco continuing.
"Well, let's just say, that it took a lot of will power on everyone's part not to do anything... embarrassing... but, we all overcame any shortcomings our immature emotions threw at us. You have nothing to worry about."
Getting rather tired of trying to ease the mind of the Commodore's husband, who would come to his senses sooner than later being the level headed guy he was, D'Angelo started his inventory.
He had released L'ola, after her persuasive - and suggestive - arguments gave Marco no possible choice as a man but to sign the release. Marco had lost some of his original attraction toward her while at the academy, but that was only because the options had expanded considerably. Being back on the Vesuvius, options had seriously diminished again... and the wiles of L'ola Kanz would once again be a force to be reckoned with, whether that was her intention or not.
Finishing in his office, and at his desk, he found the console had the results of the drills performed before the crew's trip into the past. In the physically fit category, the doctor had perfect marks. He stroked his hand through his hair while moving down the list, immediately withdrawing it when he read the ethics section. When he first saw this, immediately after the end of the drills, he wasn't surprised to see he had failed that portion. The irony was that the very next mission, the person teaching him ethics was the very person who probably had the least- that Quinn character.
Marco swallowed hard, trying to push past the lump that had formed in the crop of his throat. What he was about to do he wasn't looking forward to, but per the Commodore's orders, he knew he was obligated.
He tapped his combadge. =/\= Marco D'Angelo to Counselor =/\=
He waited for what seemed like an eternity for a response from Counselor Daye, and gnawed on his fingernails in angst while he waited.

Sonak didn't like being the subject of a counselor's observations, she more preferred to bhe the observing party instead. However, as this was a requirement to even stay in command, she had to submit to them, even if it made her feel comfortable. At least this counselor went through some effort to make her feel relaxed.
She sat up when Daye mentioned her brother Rick, then at the rolling of his eyes and a heavy sigh, lay back down again. "Yes he is part of the diplomatic party that is assigned to Romulus," she answered, "and he is part of the group that has been abducted. It makes me feel..." She hesitated, wondering how exactly she felt.
"Feeling is an emotion I.." she started over, then hesitated once more. "I feel worried," she finally admitted, after a long silence. "I have not seen my brother for several years, though we stayed in frequent contact. He and his wife live near the firefalls of gal'gathong, and they have two adopted children, both Romulan children that were orphaned."
"D'Angelo to Counselor." Their session was interrupted.
Sonak sighed. "Perhaps you should disable communications when you are in session," she suggested as she sat up, then remembered an earlier conversation she had with Elron. "Which reminds me..." She pulled a box from a pocket in her uniform and handed it to Daye. "Congratulations on your promotion to lieutenant junior grade. After this session, I need to locate Trey. He has been promoted to first lieutenant."
As D'Angelo repeated his call, Sonak got to her feet. "Perhaps we should finish this later, the doctor seems intent on talking to you."

Donovan sighed.
He'd forgotten the cardinal rule of crew reviews: Stop others from interferring. He considered and looked at the Commodore ... who seemed like she was ready to bolt whether he wanted her to or not. Talking about feelings was bound to make her uncomfortable, so he should have expected that.
He accepted the pip with thanks, but set it aside for the moment.
"Very well, Commodore," he said reluctantly, "I shall expect you at the end of your shift?"
She nodded an affirmative and all but darted to the door. In a split second she was gone.
Van stared after her for a moment, somewhat surprised at just how fast a vulcan woman could go from laying on a couch to the hallway. He noticed that she'd made it to the lift down the hall before the door to his office had the time to close. He shook his head and put the pip on his collar as he turned his attention to the voice of Doctor D'Angelo.
=^=Yes, doctor? Can I help you?=^=

Trey awoke in the morning feeling very disappointed with him self and his performance on there last mission. He was unable to protect his CO form harm, his dismal performance left him feeling inadequate and insecure about his skill as the ships SMO. He made his way to the holo deck for some early morning workouts but that didn’t seem to ease his mind one bit.
“This is pointless” he thought to him self. He left the holodeck and made his way back to his quarters to freshen up and prepare him self for his duties, it didn’t take long to get him self ready. He stood in front his mirror for the longest while steering at himself, voices of inadequacy slowly creeping into his head. Trey was not one who took failing easily and he had failed his commanding officer twice on there last mission, this was something which was new to him. He dowsed his face with a few hand full’s of water and steered harder at his reflection in the mirror. Disgusted and unsatisfied with the image he took his fist to it mashing the mirror to bits. He then made his way out the room.
He noticed Lola walking down the corridor heading towards the turbo lift. His rushed over to catch up with her.
“hello miss Kanz its good to see you up and about, I was sure that doctor D would have found a way to keep you in med bay, guess I was wrong, so have you and your team done a security check yet” he knew that Lola didn’t like him very, though her reasons were her own
“yes we have and every thing is in order, there is no need to worry your self about it” she replied”
“Okay then, I will do one last sweep then head to the when am done” said trey but Lola walked off and made her way into the lift. It wasn’t that trey didn’t trust her skills as the ships CSO on the contrary he had the utmost respect for her. It was just something he thought he had to do, he could not afford another frailer.

Sitting in the conference room, Logan just kept tapping his finger on the PADD on the table before him. Would not have been as noticeable if it was for the fact, that his doing this with his prosthetic hand.
Shooting him a menacing glare, the Commodore snapped him back into reality. Scanning the room, he saw all of the senior officers stirring in their seats as well.
"Commodore, exactly what is the reason for this mission and why have we been selected to run head to head with the Romulan Fleet? Last time we did this, we weren't exactly on the best of terms. And seeing that I'm not running the functions of the ship anymore, you sure we can pull this off and not get blown up?", Byrne said semi-sarcastically.
Dodging the return glance, he requested the computer to display the mission parameters. Using the briefing specs sent by Admiral Clark, he used the computer holo-display to highlight their route.
"With your permission, I would like to be excused to view the operations in Engineering, one last time, to give final inspection to the crew in action.<TAG Sonak>", requested Byrne.

=/\= Yes, doctor? Can I help you? =/\=
I was told I need to make an appo...=/\= -pause- =/\=Hold on a minute.=/\=
Marco pointed silently to where Alice should place the calibrated medical tricorders onto the desk. He would double-check them after his conversation with the counselor was finished.
=/\=Sorry, Doctor, as I was saying =/\= It was the first time D'Angelo acknowledged Daye's, the boy's, profession in talk. =/\= Commodore Sonak suggested that I come talk to you when I get a chance. I'll have some free time coming up - before we get to our destination. Can we meet tomorrow, at say oh-eight-hundred hours? =/\=
The counselor's acknowledgment was all Marco needed to end the uncomfortable communique.
Turning to the pile of tricorders, Marco got to work. Alice, sitting next to him, was busy taking inventory on the med-kits from around the ship. This was simpler, as the ship's computer automatically detected which kits were present, which were missing, and which weren't fully stocked. The ship could replicate, on it's own, new med-kit items. The inventory was to see why and how many of these items were used. More medical supplies being used than normal usually suggested foul play; stowaways, hiding friends/passengers, etc. Alice would soon find that everything was in order. In the meantime she engaged Marco in conversation.
"Commander Kanz sure was released early."
Marco played it off cool. "Her injuries weren't severe enough to keep her here. I told her she could leave"
"From what the morning shift tells me, she told YOU she would be leaving."
In a round about way, that is what happened, but Marco wasn't about to let a little insubordination play down his ego.
"She did ask, I didn't see the need to argue. Why does everyone think that I am soft on her?"
The odd thing was, nobody had mentioned that he was being soft to her. It was clear Marco was expecting that as a criticism, due to his actual soft spot for the Commander.
"Sorry, sorry. Don't mind me, I'm just nosy. Anyway, your shoulder is looking better." Alice backed off on the L'ola comments, seeing she had pushed the Doctor too far for one day. She'd relay the info to the next nurse on duty. The chain of gossip would continue, until all the pieces were placed together. There wasn't a doctor in sickbay that the nurses didn't know everything about... everything.
"It feels better. The dermal regenerators didn't quite reach deep enough, and the hypo-spray that rebuilt the muscle didn't quite build it up strong enough." He rotated his shoulder dramatically, cringing on its way forward. "Doesn't look like I'll be playing hover-ball today."

Sonak nodded without saying a word and dismissed her acting first officer. Then she turned, having suddenly remembered a separate message from Starfleet. "Logan?" She waved him back before he disappeared into the turbolift. "I had another message from Starfleet. It appears Commander Martens had put in a transfer request to a civillian position aboard the Vesuvius and Admiral Elron has approved that transfer. The only problem was that Nick has been unable to tell me, it is likely he was about to when he got hurt."
The Vulcan commodore paused as she saw Logan shift uncomfortably. "As of today, Commander Martens is no longer first officer on this vessel. Instead he is a civillian special engineering oberver as he designed this ship and is the most knowledgeable person about her. I have decided to put you forward for the first officer's position. Admiral Elron has approved, however you still need to do the command crashcourse. So until then, you are still acting first officer only now it is official."
With those words, she waved him off the bridge and settled her gaze on the main viewscreen. Romulan space. In little under an hour the Vesuvius would be crossing into usually enemy space. Once the border was crossed, Commander Ma'jel would contact her and escourt the Vesuvious towards Romulus, where they would appear before the senate. Ma'jel had told her that the Senate wanted to request their assistance in person.
Sonak couldn't wait to get to Romulus; the sooner they got there, the sooner the search for the missing diplomats could start. Aside from that, she was also eager to see her brother's family again. Sadly, Rick's wife had died only two years ago, or so Ma'jel had informed her and his new wife, a Romulan, had born him a son only weeks earlier. This information had not yet crossed into Federation space, as all communiqués on the private channels were being monitored and even diplomats could not privately send messages to their family. That, and Rick had been off-world on missions for most of the time.
Elanna, his new wife, would be waiting for them on Ma'jel's vessel, together with Rick's adopted children Toman and Elias. Startled from her brief daydreaming, Sonak glanced up as L'Ola suddenly stood beside her. "Yes L'Ola?"

Fox sat there in the briefing room, listening to what their mission would be about. A pad had been given to everyone with full details. He slowly read through it, also trying to follow what was said. Once the meeting was over he got up from his chair and left the room.
While he walked out he was lost in thought a bit. He had seen a very familiar surname on the list. Having served with Sonak for so long he knew very well she wasn't always as 'vulcan' as she appeared to be. {With her brother Rick, as part of the abducted diplomats group, things could become...... emotionally driven.} he thought.
While he took his place again at his science station Fox looked at Sonak. She didn't look emotionally affected. {but...} he thought for a little while {no, i hope i'm wrong.}

After the meeting, Tovan returned to his station, relieving the ensign who had been manning it. Ensign Chris Porter had just transferred onto the Vesuvius during the Earth stopover, and was the most junior member of the conn rotation.
"Anything to report?" Tovan asked.
"We remain on course and speed towards the Romulan border, and should arrive within 15 minutes." The young human woman was obviously nervous. Tovan couldn't blame her, her first mission would take them into Romulan space and might even put them in a combat situation. That was asking a lot of any new Academy graduate.
"Very well, you are relieved," Tovan said. Ensign Porter may have been young, but she was efficient, Tovan thought as he took his station.
"We are approaching the Romulan border," Tovan reported. He mentally started checking the navigational sensors just a little more closely, checking for cloaked Romulan vessels. The Vesuvius might be cloaked at the moment, but that didn't mean that they weren't being watched. Romulans had a lot more experience detecting cloaked ships than the Federation did.
As he brought the ship down to impulse, he spoke: "Scanning for cloaked vessels. Do we have permission to enter Romulan space yet?"

After trey was done with his secondary sweep of the Vesuvius he made his way to the bridge. As the turbo lift doors slid open he bumped into a young Ensign who was making her way off the bridge
“Sorry sir”
“It’s alright” answered trey, the young woman just steered at him.
“Is there something on my face?” asked trey breaking the uncomfortable silence
“No sir” she said as she snapped back in the moment
“So what’s the problem?”
“There’s no problem sir… it’s just that am a little surprised to see you or rather meet you.”
“And why is that?”
“I’ve heard a lot about you back at s47’s academy”
“Not all bad I hope”
“No sir quite the opposite”
“Sorry to cut this short but I need to get to my posting”
“Oh… sorry to have inconvenience you”
“Not at all it’s just that I missed the mission briefing and I know am going to get an ear full from our commander and chief”.
The young Ensign mood dimmed a little when he mentioned the word mission.
“Are you okay” asked trey
“To be honest sir, no am not, I don’t really know what our mission is, but we are heading into romulan space and that makes me a bit nervous.”
“You shouldn’t worry about it to much, am guessing every one is a bit nervous.”
“I guess you’re right, thank you sir”
“No worries. See you around” and with that he was out the lift and onto the bridge.
“Marine captain reporting for duty ma’am. Sorry am late but I was doing a second security sweep of the ship. Ma’am.” Trey then took a seat at the COO console next to the helm. He then leaned over to Tovan.
“Hey pointy could you fill me in on the mission briefing?” “if you thought it was important then you would have made an effort to attend, am sorry mr. maverick but I will not indulge you… and for the record my name is tovan not pointy” replayed the Vulcan. Trey felt the muscles on his neck twitch.
“No problem. But just remember when this ship is under threat me and my teams are the ones that has to save your six, so if I were I would try to be a little nicer to the marine”. There was a beep on the console in front of him. Trey turned his full attention to the beeping hub in front of him. With a few adjusting key strokes he was able to tell what was going on out side the ship.
“Ma’am we have a ship decoking in front of us, it’s a romulan bird of pray.

Pacing the corridors near Engineering, Byrne kept running name through his head to name a successor until they could get a new CEO. Entering the main Engineering room, there was a bustle of people darting to and fro checking all of the systems awaiting the entrance into Romulan space.
Heading towards his old office, he noticed the scratch in the pooltable from when he helped Commodore Sonak defeat the bomb in Engineering during the ship missions. Running his hand over the , the scratch, he was interrupted by a lieutenant holding a PADD awaiting a signature. Motioning to his collar, the lieutenant blushed in embarrassment not realizing that this was his new acting FO, Byrne took the PADD and signed off on it and handed it back.
"Lt., even now that I am the First Officer, I am still a CEO at heart, but for now, I want all reports to be forwarded to Lt. Commander Sykes. Then to me. Got it", said Logan. nodding the lieutenant disappeared.
Entering his office, he got the call that they were moments from the Romulan border. Excusing himself, he rushed to the Bridge. He would have to name a successor later.

Donovan sat in his office and dwittled his thumbs. Everyone was on alerted status, except for him. The idea to join the bridge crew had crossed his mind, but he didn't really want to run the risk of being in the way. He'd run through his list of reviews for the day ... despite the fact that he'd yet to cover the whole of the command crew.
=^=Sonak to Counsellor Daye=^=
Van jumped nearly two feet up in the air. He got to his feet and tried to regain his composure.
=^=Yes, Captain?=^=
=^=We are approaching Romulan Space, please report to the bridge.=^=
=^=Aye, Captain=^=
Van straightened himself up and happened to glance up to see himself in the mirror across from his desk. He looked like he'd just been scolded by his mother. He grimaced at himself and walked out of the office and down the hallway toward the lift. Van arrived on the bridge as the image of a Romulan bird of prey came into view. He kept his eyes on the ship as he walked to the seat generally reserved for the CMO.
He immediately felt the tension spread out over the bridge like a hot, thick, asbestos blanket. The whole place was primed to explode with the barest hint of conflict. He was fairly surprised to find that the situation was similar on the Romulan vessel. Van stood up and moved to a spot behind the captain.
"I would suggest we take this easy, tensions are very high," he said plainly, "for us and for the Romulans. Though, I suspect you already know that, ma'am."

Extending a hand to the arm of the new counselor, Byrne motioned to him to stand back a bit. As he gave the signal to silience the warning beacons, Byrne watched as a single Warbird appeared, followed by even more.
Stepping forward, Logan ordered the command crew to stand-by mode, while keeping the automatic weapons systems online. Using his implant, he commanded a second team to all three modules to energize the Battle Bridges for all of the modules.
As the commander of the lead ship showed his image, Logan saw the tension in the CO. <TAG Sonak> He stepped forward and stated the current status between the two races........

"Yes Captain Maverick, I know that," Sonak said curtly, deliberately using Trey's new rank. She hadn't announced his promotion yet, but now was a good a time as any to mention it. "And next time, please report in before a mission briefing. I want you on the bridge, as senior marine you are supposed to stay on the bridge and have your teams prowl through the bowel of this vessel."
She nodded towards his console. "Keep an eye on the cloak, keep it functioning and keep an eye on those Romulans." Sonak was well aware that the male commander of the first ship was watching her every move. Eventually she turned to face him. "My apologies commander, my senior marine believed I did not know the current status between our two governments."
The Romulan smiled, slightly baring his teeth as he leaned forward. This was going to be interesting, a Vulcan apologising and in possession of a cloaked ship. Ma'jel had witheld information, deliberately when she had briefed her fleet. However, for now he would be playing her game. "Ma'jel is on her way, but I have been fully briefed. You are authorised to enter Romulan space, as long as your vessel remains uncloaked and under our escort. Ma'jel will join us shortly, she was briefly detained and thus is behind on schedule."
"That is very kind of you," the Vulcan replied and notted towards Kanz. "Deactivate cloaking device," she ordered, ignoring Logan's sharp stare. "If this is a condition, we will abide by it. We are in their territory, by the grace of the emperor, so we will abide by their rules. Were the circumstances reversed, any Romulan vessel would abide by the rules we would set them." She turned to the commander, who had yet to introduce himself. "Would you not commander...?"
"Indeed," the Romulan replied, still not giving his name. "Commodore Reckus, it is my understanding that you have relatives among the captured. I have his wife on my vessel and she would beam over."
"She is permitted to beam over," Sonak replied, "and since you have the honour of my name, perhaps you would honour me with yours?"
"Commander Tanek, at your service," Tanek replied.
Sonak raised an eyebrow, wondering why he did not offer his house name. Yet she did not pursue the issue. "I will await her in my transporter room. If you wish, you may come aboard also."
The Romulan shook his head. "I stay with my ship until Commander Ma'jel arrives. Those are my orders, but after that..." His eyes gleamed. "I would be interested to see your vessel, we have heard a lot about it."
"Commander Byrne, you have the bridge." Sonak rose gracefully from her seat and made her way towards the transporter room, closely followed by Trey, who had taken her berating seriously and would now stay with her while she was on duty.
A young woman materialised on the pad and was briefly detained as the system automatically scanned her for weapons and alien diseases. She was carrying an infant in her arms and was accompanied by two young Romulan children. Sonak stepped forward as the eldes of the children ran up to her. "Auntie Sonak!" the boy cried, wrapping his arms around her.
"You have grown, Toman," Sonak commented, as she returned the hug, albeit briefly. She regarded the younger boy. "You must be Elias." The boy nodded shyly, hiding behind the woman's robes. Sonak rose back to her feet and beckoned the woman. "And you must be Elanna, Rick's wife. I must admit it was quite a shock to hear his first wife had died and that he had remarried. However, I am relieved to see he has found himself a new wife."
Elanna nodded, looking nervous. "Please find my husband," she pleaded as she held the baby close to her chest. The infant wailed in protest and she fumbled with the infant to keep it quiet. "He..." Elanna stopped. "I'm so worried, please find him."
Sonak tapped her combadge. "Lieutenants Daye and D'angelo, please meet me in transporter room one." She glanced down at the Romulan woman, who looked unwell. "My counselor and doctor will look after you for now," she reassured her, "and you are welcome to stay with me and Jatan. We have young children as well. Toman is of the age of my eldest twins, and Elias looks to be only a year older than my youngest twins." Then she nodded down on the baby. "And I too have an infant, who is now six months old. Your baby, is it a boy or a girl?"
For the first time, the woman smiled as she adoringly glanced down on her baby. "A girl. Rick and I have named her Rihanna, after the world of her birth." At that moment, Daye and D'Angelo walked in. "Elianna, please meet Donovan Daye, my counselor and Marco D'Angelo, my chief medical officer. Please go with them for now, and I shall pick you up in sickbay at the end of my shift."
She turned to the two medical practioners. "Please look after her, and treat her with the utmost respect. She is a member of my family. Marco, please make sure Jatan meets with her as well. She will be staying with us, until we have rescued my brother, her husband."

L'Ola decloaked the ship as ordered, carefully leaving it on standby just in case. That condition might be the only thing letting them into Romulan Space but there was a good chance that breaking it might be the only thing to get them out again later.
She mentally raised her eyebrows at the thought of the Romulan Commander visiting the ship, making sure there weren't any visual signs of her thought. Visitors like that tended to make some of the civilians uneasy and also put some of the security staff on edge. Plus it would give the marines an excuse to be even more paranoid, which was something she tried to avoid as a general rule.
Despite the fact that the group about to transport over were Sonak's relations L'Ola knew it was her job as Chief of Security to be there when they arrived on the ship. She contacted Lieutenant Qualtrough to replace her on the Bridge, and followed Sonak and Trey down to the transporter room.
When they arrived she was careful to hang in the background. The last thing families needed when they arrived on board was someone pointing a phaser around right in their faces. Happy to see that everything was going according to plan, she started to work out what she was supposed to be doing for the rest of the day whilst keeping half an eye on proceedings.
The entrance of D'Angelo and Daye reminded her that she was supposed to be paying both of them a visit soon. And her need for a constant supply of painkillers dictated which of those appointments she would find more important.
