Loskene, Daya and Kel beamed down to the planets surface. Loskene couldn't help but feel worried. Two billion people living here. There was no way that everyone would make it off. It would take a million ships to evacuate every last person.
Loskene's communicator activated and Commander Matthew began to talk.
Matthew: Sir, the first of the colony ships have arrived, and they are ready to begin a rapid beam up. Mr. Powers has come up with the idea that we can store people in the holomatrix for a short time, that way it will work much faster.
Loskene: It's worth a try, begin when you are ready.
Matthew: Yes sir. And, I have some daunting news. Seismic activity has increased 20% since your arrival. I fear time may be running out.
Loskene: Let me worry about that Commander. Loskene out. =^=
Loskene and the others began to walk toward a large, ancient pyramid like structure.
Daya: So this is where you traced the underground message?
Loskene: Yes, I believe this structure is some kind of access point. It will probably lead us into their lair, but we won't know until we get inside.
Daya: These pyramids remind me of the ancient South American pyramids on Earth...
Joni Kel: Fascinating architecture.
Loskene: A shame we don't have the time to study these ruins. And I doubt we will be sending any researchers back here anytime soon.
Kel: Sir, I was wondering something... Why was I selected for this mission?
Loskene: Well, you are the ships counselor. I may need your help if something goes wrong. These people are stubborn, but we may be able to reach some kind of a compromise if all else fails.
Suddenly, a rumble was heard beneath them.
Loskene: The ground is beginning to become unstable! Quickly, let's get away from here!
Loskene and the others began to run. The ground began to crack below them, until there was a large, deep abyss. Daya and Kel made it to the other side of the abyss, and Loskene was right behind them.
Kel: The gap is getting to large! Quickly Sir!
Loskene: I'm going as fast as I can!
Loskene made a daring jump across the abyss, confident that he could make it to the other side.... Loskene miscaculated slightly, and he missed the edge.
Daya: He almost made it!
Loskene was hanging on to a ledge, trying to pull himself up. he quickly slid down lower and lower. He tried to grip onto a rock.
Daya and Kel looked down into the abyss, lava began to rise out of the abyss, and Loskene would soon be consumed by the hellish inferno.
Loskene: What are you doing! Get out of here quickly![/color]
Kel: Loskene!
Loskene: Get to the temple! Quickly!
The lava began to rise up and Loskene lost his footing and fell.
Kel: No!
Daya: No... Commodore.
Kel: ............
Daya: Ensign, come, let's finish this job, let's go rescue the hostages.
They began to walk off slowly, wondering if Loskene would come back up, but there was nothing.
Daya: There is an opening in the temple, at the top of the steps.
Daya and Kel began to climb up the steps.
The abyss was beginning to seal up, and Loskene was inches away from rising lava. He decided to risk losing the rock he was holding onto. He quickly rolled up his sleeve and activated the genetic modifier. He suddenly changed form into a moderately sized hawk. He began to flap his wings and quickly darted toward the surface. The abyss closed even deeper and Loskene knew there was a chance he wouldn't make it out...But he got lucky, he had almost gotten caught inbetween the ground. He flew out of the Earth and into the air. Loskene scouted around, trying to find Kel and Daya.
"They must already be in the temple..." he thought to himself.

Loskene flew down onto the steps of the temple. He then morphed back into his human form. He ran inside and it was dark. He whipped out a starfleet issue flashlight and tried to see if there was some kind of way deeper into the temple. He saw a staircase and shown his light onto the steps. It seemed that the stairs went a long way down.
"They are probably all the way at the bottom by now" thought Loskene.
He began to trek down the stairs.
Meanwhile...
Kel and Daya were in a dark, wet room, at the bottom of the stairs.
Daya: Ensign, can you make out any kind of door or passageway?
Kel: I can't see anything. We should try infrared.
Kel took out her tricorder and began to scan the area for any heat or light sources.
Kel: There is a small crack in the ground. I think it's a door. I can see the outline.
Daya: Let's find a way to open this up.
Kel: I can't see any kind of panel or door handle...
Daya: Maybe we can blast through it.
Kel: Do you think it's a good idea?
Daya: I don't see any other way.
Daya took out his phaser and set it to a moderate level. He aimed at the wall and fired for a few seconds.
Daya: This doesn't seem to be working. I am going to try a higher setting. Stand back.
Daya set his phaser at a high level and then fired. He fired for longer this time....
Daya: Still nothing. It must have been built to withstand this kind of punishing.
Kel: Hey...there seems to be some kind of writing on this wall.
Kel shown her flashlight on it and they looked at the writing closely.
Daya: I can't make it out. Is this the alien language?
Kel: It looks more like shapes.
Daya: Maybe not a language... Hmm.
They examined the drawings even closer.
Kel: Hey, this symbol over here, this rectangle...It looks like a door...
Daya: And to the left of it is 5 shapes... And to the right of the shapes is an arrow.
Kel: These drawings must have a connection to the door.
Daya: A password or some sort?
Kel: There doesn't seem to be anywhere to input a password.
Daya: Yes there is. The tricorder!
Kel: How could we do that?
Daya: I'm going to try something. I'm going to have the tricorder copy down these shapes...........................................There, the tricorder has the info. Now, I'm going to set the tricorder to alternate through these shapes. We may be in luck.
Kel: So... if the tricorder gets the shapes in the right order, we may gain access.
Daya: Exactly. It shouldn't take too long, the tricorder works very fast.
15 seconds later...
A rumbling noise was heard in front of Daya and Kel. The door slowly opened up, revealing another staircase, which was illuminated by light panels.
Daya: It seems we have found it. Come on.
Daya and Kel rushed in to the next chamber, and the door quickly shut behind them.
Kel: Oh no.
Daya: No time to worry about that, we must get to the underground.
Meanwhile...
Loskene rushed down the steps and he heard a rumbling. He just managed to see the door shut.
Loskene: Damn it. Missed em. I wonder what's happening on the surface...
He tapped his communicator. The communicator appeared to be dead. In frustration, Loskene tried to figure out how to open the door.
Back on the Jefferson...
Matthew: Mr. Power, how are the beam ups going?
Power: Well, the ships just arrived, sir... We just started five minutes ago. I guess we are making progress. Permission to take a pre lunch break, I-
Matthew: Denied, Mr. Power. I need you to watch over ships power distribution. You can indulge yourself after the mission is completed.
Power: Sigh...yes sir...

Max Power contuined to watch the power distrubtation. After a while, the holoemmiters started to fluculate.
Max "More power to the holo-emitters"
Crewmember "Aye aye sir"
They divereted power from non-essintial systems.
Over the next course of 15 minutes, slowly the power drain was getting to the Jefferson's main systems. Max rushed to the bridge to informed the Commander immediatly.
Max "Commander...We are slowly losing power. Two of the holo-emitters have been taken off line. Transporting has slowed down now...in fact, three have gone missing in the transport buffers...i got teams working on it now."
Matthews "Find more power"
Max "There isn't anymore! Im draining everything i can, even from the warp core! Basically, all we have are life support and navigation. Im requestiong premission to start draining power from the shields and weapon array."

Daya and Joni Kel continued into the next chamber. It was very warm in the chamber.
Daya: We must be getting close to them...
Out of nowhere, one of the aliens materialized into the room and grabbed Kel and Daya. The three of them dissapeared...
Meanwhile...
Loskene had finally figured out how to operate the door and entered the same room that Kel and Daya had recently been in. He began to search in the hot room for a way to get further into the structure. After checking around for five minutes, Loskene sat down and tried to think it out.
Loskene suddenly began to sense something strange. He suddenly felt a presense in the room with him. He got up and looked around cautiously. An alien morphed out of the wall and grabbed Loskene, teleporting him...
Loskene was lying down. He sat up and opened his eyes. Something must have knocked him unconcious. He looked around him and realized that he was in some type of cell. It was highly advance compared to the ancient temple. A forcefield secured the cell and it was bright, filled with consoles and sophisticated equipment.
Loskene: Where is this place....
In another cell next to Loskene's, Kel and Daya heard a familiar voice.
Daya: Hey, that sounds like-
Kel: Loskene!
Loskene: What? Kel, Daya, are you there?!
Daya: Sir!! We thought you.... We saw you...
Loskene: I'll explain later. Do you two have any idea where we are?
Daya: Some kind of prison cell. A few hours ago we saw the aliens shift through that wall.
Loskene: So they are interdimensional... This may be a more complicated situation then I thought...
As Loskene spoke, one of the aliens entered the room, shifting through the floor.
Loskene: Nice trick.
Falmar Elek: Commodore Loskene. I knew you would try something as stupid as this. What did you wish to accomplish by coming here?
Loskene: I won't leave my crew behind, Elek.
Elek: Pathetic... I thought you would like to know, you have less than two hours to evacuate. It is not going well. Only 20% of the inhabitants have been evacuated.
Loskene: Thanks for the update.
Elek: It seems you were right about one thing, this is our last city. Right here, underneath this structure. However, you will not be at a liberty to tell anyone... I have no intention of letting you or your officers leave now.
Loskene: Where is Johnson?
Elek: He is with our scientists right now. We are... extracting information from him.
Loskene: ...
Elek: Nothing to say hm?
Loskene: I have nothing to say to you. You are just a close minded fool, another selfish bigot who wants everything for himself.
Elek became enraged and he began to shift in and out of dimensions.
Elek: ThIs Is My WoRlD!!!!!!! YoU hAd No RiGhT tO cOmE hErE!!!!
Elek's hand began to glow. He raised his fist at Loskene and fired some kind of energy burst from his hand. It knocked Loskene back and shoved him against a wall. He fell down and grimaced in pain.
Loskene: I... I guess your not powerful to handle a little truth...heh...
Elek ran off enraged, and walked through the wall.
Loskene: Agh... That didn't feel so good.
Kel: Are you ok?
Loskene: I'll be alright...
Daya: Sir... I was scanning the area with my tricorder while you enraged him. I took a look at his bio signs. It appears that the alien became weakened when he discharged that energy blast...
Loskene: That's interesting... We should all keep that in mind... Wait...how did you manage to hold on to your tricorder? They confiscated all my equipment.
Daya: Apparently they forgot to check my pocket.
Loskene grinned and snickered.
Loskene: How ingenious.

Max Power started draining power from the shields and weapons array. This boosted power, and the transport process started to get back on course. Soon, only essiential systems were online and transporters.
Crewmember "Sir, the power drain is still too great."
Max "Ideas? We need to compensate this power lose."
Crewmember "We could go to emerceny systems?"
Max "Then we would loose navigation and the ability to lock onto the people. That is not an option."
Crewmember "Well, we are going to run out of power soon."
Max "Hold off a bit longer. WE can do this."
Soon, one of the transporters started to spark, and a fire started in transporter room 3.
Crewmember "Sir, Transporter room 3 has reported an incident. The Transporter is now offline."
Max "Get a repair crew up there! I want that fixed before lunch!"
A crew of four headed up to the transporter room. Max looked at the console he was working from. They lost 17 people in that transporter malfunction. Max wasn't happy. He sent the report through to Commander Matthews, and then started concertating his effots on making sure this didn't happen again.

OFF: Everyone (Excluding James Matthew and Max Power), if you have trouble posting or if you are busy, please let me know as soon as possible. Activity on this ship is pretty low and I'd very much like for us to be the best ship in the fleet.
ON:
Loskene sat in his cell. An hour had already passed, and they were still trying to figure out how to take advantage of the aliens weakness.
Loskene: An hour to go... If we don't do something soon, the people on the planet, plus our officers will be dead.
Kel: Sorry sir, I'm just not sure...
Daya: I too am running out of ideas. Here sir, take a look at the tricorder. Maybe you can find something.
Daya had recently found a small crack in the foundation of the cells, and he worked the tricorder to the other end, where Loskene grabbed it. Suddenly, the alien shifted through the wall and deactivated Loskene's cell. Loskene quickly took the tricorder and hid it in his pocket.
Loskene: What now?
Elek: I thought I would take the oppurtunity of showing you what we are planning.
A wide grin appeared on Elek's face.
Loskene: Listen you sadistic fool, I will not be impressed by your killing machines or your little attempts to get a rise out of me. You just crave attention don't you?
Elek began to frown and grabbed Loskene by the arm. Loskene attempted to punch Elek but his fist went right through him.
Elek: (Chuckle) Typical response from a limited one dimensional being.
Loskene: In case you haven't noticed, I'm not exactly from around here.
Elek: Maybe not, but they are.
Elek pointed a weapon at Ensign Kel.
Elek: Come with me, or I kill her.
Loskene: ...What are you waiting for, lead the way.
Elek grabbed Loskene and walked through the wall with him.
Kel: Did you see that?
Daya: How did Loskene manage to get through the wall? That alien must have been able to phase Loskene...
Loskene was led through various chambers until he finally reached a large room, with very bright lighting, with scientific equipment around him. At the front of the room, there was a large viewscreen, with a topographical map of the area.
Elek: Watch this.
Elek approached the console at the viewscreen and activated the device.
Elek: Magnify section 4-R.
The computer magnified the section and Elek operated a few more panels.
Elek: Execute magna flow... Ioe-4... Deviate from subsection 9... Ignite.
A section of the map turned red.
Elek: You just witnessed a massive volcanic eruption. Exciting isn't it?
Loskene: Exciting that you are destroying your own world? Not really. However, not that you really deserve to live here.
A voice from behind the Commodore got his attention.
Sir!
Loskene: Johnson?
Loskene turned around and saw Johnson bound to a medical table.
Loskene: Johnson, how are you? What have they done?
Johnson: Some...unpleasent brain scans... But I think I will manage.
Loskene: I'll get you out of here soon Johnson.
Elek: Oh really? How do you plan on doing that? It's not that device in your pocket is it?
Elek put out his hand and telepathically removed Loskene's tricorder from his pocket.
Elek: You won't need that.
Elek pulled out his weapon and destroyed the tricorder.
Loskene: Oh, that. Doesn't matter to me. I suppose I simply forgot I had it with me.
Elek: Indeed. Ooh, the clock is ticking, the numbers are narrowing. "00:00:15:00" the clock reads. Only 15 minutes left. For everyone.
Loskene: What about you? What about your people?
Elek: We have survived. We will survive.
Loskene: I think you should know something. Something important. The organization that I work for has an accord. And this applies to you. This accord states that "Any Federation planet, under attack by enemy forces, will be met with brutal retaliation."
Elek: Unlikely. You people are all talk and negotiation. You are not warlike people.
Loskene: Not at first. But we take the lives of our citizens and officers very seriously. We make sure that not one life left unavenged. It has been our code for many years. I remain confident, that when I and the others die, that you will soon meet the same fate, when a dozen starships arrive here and destroy you.
Elek: I understand it now. You are trying to get a rise out of me. Fair play I suppose. But it won't work.
Loskene: I believe the attack ships are on the way as we speak. Infact, they may even be here now.
Elek: No, I would have detected them.
Loskene: You would have detected phase cloaked ships?
Elek: Phase...cloak?
Loskene: Correct. 12 minutes from now, they will fire volleys of everything they have. And you will be destroyed. Your right to planet will be impossible. Face it, you are no match. What was once yours is now ours, Elek.
Elek: NO! Nothing is yours! I will make certain of that!
Loskene: Once starfleet arrives here, they will begin to pave the way for colonies on a global scale. These caves will be destroyed and not a single shred of evidence that you were here will remain.
Elek: NO!!
Elek ran towards Loskene. He was enraged, and was rapidly shifting through dimensions.
Loskene: Difficult to accept isn't it?
Elek's hand began to glow and he fired a large burst of energy from it. Loskene quickly began to dodge the energy. The energy blast hit the console in back of Loskene, disrupting the console behind him. Sparks and electrical surges nuetralized the console, causing it to short circuit.
Elek: NO!!!!!!!
Elek rammed right into Loskene. Loskene was met with a powerful surge of energy. The energy being emitted from Elek's body touched Loskene, causing Loskene to wince in pain.
Johnson: Commodore!!!
Loskene fought back the pain and morphed into his 8472 form. He managed to claw Elek across the chest and Elek's body went limp, the energy emissions coming from his body had ceased. Loskene fell to the ground, weakened.
Johnson: Commodore! The device, it's still active!
Loskene: Ugh...
From out of the wall, came Kel and Daya.
Johnson: How did you two get here?
Daya: All of a sudden, our cell opened up and we managed to...walk through the wall.
Johnson: Loskene managed to damage the console, but I'm not sure if it's offline.
Kel ran over to Loskene and leaned down.
Loskene: Joni... I...
Kel: Don't, sir... Just stay put...
Loskene: I...I feel as if the life has been sucked out of me...
Kel: He needs medical attention.
Daya: He's not the only one. There are still 5% of the people still on the planet who still need to be beamed off.
Kel helped Johnson out of the medical table.
Johnson looked down at the alien. Tendrils began to come out Elek's mouth. He had succumbed to Loskene's venom.
Daya: We gotta get of here.
Kel: What about the people on the surface?
Daya: We are as safe as they are. But if we get going now, we may have a chance.
Kel sighed sadly.
Kel: Can you walk alright, Alex?
Alex Johnson: I'll be ok.
Daya: Ensign, help me carry the commodore.
They quickly scrambled out of the room and ran through many walls until they ended up on the surface of the planet. It was bright red, volcanic ash was spewing wildly. They did not have much time left...
<TAG: Matthews or Power. We could use some help down here please.>

With most of the colonies all most off the planet, Mr Power felt realived that the transporters had been able to withstand the amound of power drain. With pretty much all systems offline except life support, secondary systems and transporters, the job had been done.
Crewmember "Sir, another relay blew in transporter room 2. That leaves only the first transporter room online. The holo-emmiters are out too. All of them. We are still trying to catch up with the back log of transports in the buffers. It will take about 5 minutes to clear"
Max "understood. Untill then, no more transporting. I will be on the bridge to inform Commander Matthew."
Max headed towards the bridge, taking the long way. Since the turbo lifts were offline, he took a packed lunched...pre-lunch...he forgot the time, so he ate it anyway.
He finally got to the bridge, exactly 5 minutes and 2 seconds after he left.
Max "Sir, the final few colonist are being transported off by the colony ship. We had a back log of people in our buffers, sooo...we been unable to transport any more. But im sure that if you do a sensor sweep...well, if they were online..."
Matthew "Point noted."
There was an awark silence between the two officers before the person at helm intruppeted them
Person at helm "Sir, We have detected our officers reaching the surface."
Matthew "Great! get a lock, beam them out"
Person at helm "Um...shouln't you ask ops that?"
Matthew "Good point." *turns to ops* "Beam them out, quick!"
Person at ops "Um..ok."
They started to beam them up, but the power all ready drained on the ship seemed to be disabling them to get a lock.
Person at ops "Unable to get a lock sir. I mean, we got a lock, but i cant beam them up. I mean, we dont have enough power. I dont know what i mean. I just joined last week!"
Matthew "Max, get down to transporter room 1."
Max "Aye sir!"
Max sprinted down to transporter room 1, not even stopping for food.
Max arrived to see a team trying to get power power to the transporter.
Transporter Guy 1 "Sir, the last lot of people blew out our final relay. The buffer is broken too."
Max "To hell with the relays!...but not the buffer. Um, repair the buffer. Try resetting it. The relay, well...i dunno, by pass it with another relay. Boost power to the transporters. Take it from life support...actually, dont. Take it from....my BBQ!"
Engeineer guy "Not the bbq!"
*Dramatic music plays in the background. Max stares at the camera and speaks*
"There comes a time in every mans life where he must sacrafice his most prized procession....his BBQ!"
Engineer guy "I thought it was your...."
Max (intruppting) "...This is PG thank you! So its BBQ!"
They started draining power from the BBQ.
Unimportant people up the back who dont get another shot at actoring rather than this one line "Its working!"
Max "good. Keep it going."
Engineer guy "Sir, we loosing power again."
Max rushed to the console. "Damn it!"
Max started pressing a few buttons.
Engineer guy "Sir, that will blow out the whole transporter"
Max "We get one shot at this."
All that max saw next was an explosion in front of him before falling backwards to the ground. He blacked out.
*meanwhile in the transporter room...where Max was knocked out*
The officers from the Jefferson arrived safely. They saw Max on the ground.

All of the Jefferson officers materialized on the platform.
Joni Kel: Thank goodness you reached us in time!
Daya: What's happening on the planet?
Matthew: The planet is being smothered by molten lava...I'm afraid there is nothing we can do to save the planet.
Matthew realized Loskene was lying on the floor, unconcious.
Matthew: Lt. Daya, get Loskene to sickbay and do what you can for him. Mr. Johnson, please go to sickbay as well, I want a full examination of you.
Joni Kel: What about the people? Did you save everyone?
Kel looked at Matthew, who stood there motionless, his eyes expressing a certain sadness and gloom.
Matthew: I'm afraid we weren't able to rescue all of them... We tried, we did all we could, but in the end, it just wasn't enough... 1200 people. 1200 people are dead.... Those people, that 5% died...
Kel: I'm so sorry...
Matthew regained his composure, straightening his uniform.
Matthew: What happened to the Commodore?
Kel: He was injured when he was attacked by the alien. Loskene managed to mortally wound the alien.
Matthew: Let's not hope it's the case with Loskene.
Kel: He is strong, he'll live.
Matthew: There are some people in the cargo bay, we beamed survivors into it. I would like you to go down there and see if anyone needs any help.
Kel: Aye sir, I'm on my way.
Matthew: =^=Matthew to Engineering=^=
Engineer: Yes sir?
Matthew: Set a course for starbase. Is warp speed possible?
Engineer: Yes sir, but I'd advise not going beyond Warp 5 for now. I'm still trying to level a few ratios down here. The power drainage kind of threw things off.
Matthew: Understood, let's go home...

Loskene was lying in sickbay, he slowly began to gain consciousness.
Loskene: (weakly) Doc...tor.
Daya: Commodore.
Loskene: Were...were we sucessful?
Daya: We did what we could sir. Commander Matthew has all the details sir.
Loskene: I'd like to speak with him.
Daya: Careful sir. You're still recovering from a severe drain on your neural energy.
Loskene got out of the bio bed and began to feel dizzy.
Loskene: I'll be fine...
Daya: I suppose you are fit for partial duty. I'd like to keep track of you though. If anything goes terribly wrong, contact me ASAP.
Loskene: Yes, doctor... How is Johnson?
Daya: He will be fine, nothing some headache medicine won't cure.
Loskene: That's good to hear.
Loskene walked out of sickbay, still feeling groggy but a lot better then a few days ago.
Loskene encountered Joni Kel in the hallway.
Kel: Commodore.
Loskene: Ensign. What do you have for me?
Kel: I have met with most of the civilians. They are shaken but they are doing better. Here is a list of the people we rescued. The colony ships are heading for Earth.
Loskene: Good. I take it we got everyone?
Kel: Sir, um.....how are you?
Loskene: I'm doing ok. About those people, Joni?
Kel: I....
Commander Matthew came out of a turbolift.
Matthew: Sir, good to see you on your feet.
Loskene: Yes, I am doing a lot better. But I have a feeling that the news you are going to give me will not be pleasant. In my ready room Commander. Goodbye, Joni.
Loskene and Matthew entered the bridge. Loskene was anxious, he really wanted to know that everything was ok, that they had completed their mission with no casualties. Loskene sat down at his desk, Commander Matthew stood, showing little emotion.
Loskene: Commander... If you would.
Commander Matthew sat down and handed Loskene the padd.
Loskene's eyes grew concerned.
Loskene: .....This...this could have been avoided. This whole thing could have been...
Matthew: Sir, if I may...
Loskene: James, what went wrong?
Matthew: Nothing went wrong sir.
Loskene: Something must have gone wrong. Lives ended that day.
Matthew: Everything went as planned sir. Sans a minor transported malifunction. Time was our enemy.
Loskene: That Elek.... Did I kill him?
Matthew: He is dead sir.
Loskene: If only he were here... I'd make him pay... And the planet, it is now barren.
Matthew: Yes sir it is. It won't be habitable for another 90 years, say scientists.
Loskene took a deep breath and knocked the padds off the table in a rage.
Loskene: We could have saved everyone!!
Matthew stood up, alarmed.
Loskene: Oh...I am sorry Commander. I have not been myself. I am ailing, this lack of nueral energy is making me incompetent.. And during this time I ask for your forgiveness.
Matthew: Nothing to be sorry for sir. I understand. If there is anything you need, let me know.
Loskene: Yeah...Yeah, I will. Dismissed Commander.
Matthew left and Loskene sank into his chair.
*BEEP*
Voice: Commodore, we are approaching the starbase.
Loskene: Alright, let's dock.
