Hey Crew,
Well, something that has never before happened in S47 history has just happened and a serving ship CO has been appointed Section Admiral. I just want to assure you all that I will be remaining as the CO and will do my best to remain active and give the Nevada the time that it needs.
I do however have a question that I would like to put to all of you and that is this. Where would you like the Nevada to be and what status would you like it to have? We can remain here in the Alliance Fleet where the ship will be known as the SA’s Flagship, rather than Fleet CO Flagship, or we can move out of Alliance and become a stand-alone ship with the status of Section Flagship. I am very interested to hear your thoughts on this.
Oh, and Drew’s “promotion” will not take effect in sim until after we complete our mission. You guys are bad enough trying to protect a full Admiral - I dread to think what you would be like with someone pointing a phaser at the SA lol.

well i guess you could be all the way up there right under starbase 47, but i'd say stay here. is there any job better suited for the Section Admiral than to command an allied fleet and storm the galaxy with overwhelming force of federation, romulan and klingon ships

I was going to say Section Flagship because, in a sense, that's what we are now. But I'll go with the majority vote.

I agree with Lucy, However what would the Nevada do if we are the section Flagship just ferry around the SA no offense intended but the Akira Class isn't suited to do that job (From a security stand point) Don't you feel a Sovereign or some class like that with better weapons and Shields fit better? We can stay in the alliance section just be modified or get a new class of ship just like they did with the defiant on DS9 when it was destroyed. I know it was the same class but you know what i mean. We could have the same name just a new class of Starship.

I'm not sure where I stand on this, but I do think a new class would be good if that's what we go with. The Akira Nevada-B can be retired in honour rather than being blown up like usual.

I gotta admit, I had not even considered changing the ship class before now. It sounds though like a few of you are in favour of it.
If we became Section Flagship our missions would remain largely the same as they are now, we would not just be "ferrying" the SA around I can assure you! That would not be any fun at all. As the Section Flagship, we would move back into the main fleet and lord it over everyone else lol and maybe sometimes take part in joint missions and stuff. SB47 would also become our home port. We would not however be apart of any of the other fleets and could really just move between them as we wanted depending on our mission.
Out of interest, if we did change class what sort would you guys like?

As i stated before a sovereign class or stronger. Also since we are non-canon we can create a new class of ship. I proposed a while back i think you still find on the shipyard boards.

Yes, Paul and I are thinking non-canon. There are two large-scale canon starships, Sovereign and Prometheus class, and both are already in s47 multiple times.
Jon, I went back to that Omicron thread, and you mention that you have a basic design for your suggestion of the Insignia class. Do you still have them? If so, can we see them?

I like the sound of an Insignia Class. Let us all take a look at it.

Why not look at the Somma class, the design used for the USS Vesuvius and created specially for S47. Although not a large vessel, it is heavily armed and has its own multi-vector assault mode: Somma class also Specifications

I'm liking the looks of it so far, John. Do you dimensions for this thing yet, like height, length, width, # of decks?

First to answer Q2 no i am not but i did ask permission to use the pic i explained that i need to show you something and they replied it was cool as long as i took that pick with the disclaimer sort of
Now Dan no i haven't really worked any of that out yet fully i was thinking of 36 decks, and where the NCC number is is where the ship would split. There is info all over the net but i figured we would work it out our self to make it a truly new ship

Sounds like a good idea to me. So, from what I'm seeing, the split would be rather like a Galaxy class, except it would be modular so the Saucer section would have its own engine room, and warp nacelles as well.
And I'm thinking that the saucer, from the top, would have the look of a deep saucer plate? Is that what you're thinking?
I'll start working on some of the details for the systems (engines, shields, weaponry) that doesn't depend on the exact size.

Sounds good to me and yes that was my thinking as well, but you know lets have fun since we are going to be placing a designing a whole new ship. What about making it with a slipstream drive with no bugs? what about a clocking device we will need that since we are the flagship right? I also think we should open it up for ideas from the crew as well. I bet our new CE would love a holographic Master systems display in engineering.

What about making it as indestructible, faster than anything else in the universe and with a phased cloak? Ooooh oooh oooh, and a Death Star weapon! And a shuttlebay that can hold smaller ships, like the Prometheus class. And.. and.. I'll shut up now.

Speaking as an engineer at heart, I love the idea of the holographic MSD.
Slipstream drive? Um, no probably not, but ask the Admiral. And cloaking devices were banned in the Federation by the Treaty of Algeron.

The previous Nevada had one, as does the Vesu.. We don't have "one" we got three! (just sadly the jefferson got this nifty thing that allows her to see cloaked vessels. scare tactics on Loskene didn't work.....too bad!)

You do all know its down in the rule book that no ship can have such advanced technology without the express permission of the CSS? I think I shall have to go do a spot check inspection of the Black Tulip, Ves and Jefferson. I would like to keep the technology at a sensible level. I know its rather exciting for a ship to have lots of new shiny things, but we want to stay realistic with the Trek universe. That does mean that for us a cloaking device is most certainly out of the question. Slipstream drive is slightly different, it was made clear in Voyager that the technology was possible and could work, they just needed to figure out the bugs. Holographic systems likewise are something that we saw starting to be developed in the 2370s, so it makes sense that more advancements could have been made by the 2390s.
