John was wandering the promenade, he couldn’t sleep it was 2am on Starbase Conqueror. He was staring out of the base at the stars, as he often did when he couldn’t sleep. For a moment he thought he saw something, from the corner of his eye hurtling towards Starbase Conqueror. Immediately, John dismissed it as a product of his imagination but there it was again it was just a twinkle against the backdrop of space. John decided he needed a closer look before alerting everyone on the base to something that was probably a passing asteroid or a shooting star, John decided to go to the astrophysics labs, where the powerful sensor array was onboard the base.
Staring at the viewscreen displaying the map of the immediate space around Conqueror. “Computer magnify grid H12, 50%” The viewscreen jumped quickly and began to magnify section H12, John was leaning on the control panel as the object came into view. It was a massive asteroid, hurtling towards the Starbase.
“Computer confirm if the asteroid in H12 is on a collision course for Conqueror” “Asteroid is on a collision course with the Starbase.”
“How long until collision?” “5 hours 24 minutes and 17 seconds until collision.”
“Computer, what size is the asteroid, which part of the base is it on course to strike?” “Asteroid is approximately half a kilometre in diameter. Asteroid will collide with decks 30 through 70 causing significant damage to key systems and engineering ”
John gasped at the size of the asteroid, he had not imagined it being so large in size. John had to act fast and inform all available personnel to meet him in the observation lounge. He was using the lab to get as clear an image as possible and predict the course and time remaining until impact. Tapping his comm. he contacted Ops Control.
=^= McFarland to Ops =^=
=^= Boyle here, how can we be of help sir? =^= The young officer replied casually obviously not expecting to be contacted so late in his duty shift.
=^= I need a Comm, to all available starfleet personnel including the cadets. Before you ask, it is imperative and you’ll find out why in a second. =^= John said authoritively, to stress the importance of the comm.
=^= Comm open sir. =^=
=^= All hands, this is Commander McFarland. We have an inbound asteroid on a collision course for the Starbase. This is not a drill, I repeat this is not a drill will all officers report to their stations and join me in the Observation Lounge to determine how we are going to stop it! We have little over 5 hours so time is of the essence. =^=
John spoke calmly but with authority as he made sure the base’s crew knew it was for real.
John arrived at the Observation Lounge and set up all he needed to display the asteroids present course and speed and the large timer counting down to the impact. It now read: “5 hours 11 minutes and 24 seconds”, John hurriedly grabbed a PADD and began to think up solutions.
<Tag all available personnel: Cadets, Civilians, Instructors – all welcome!>

Cadet Cooper was asleep in his Quarters when the communications channels activated.

Cooper jumped out of bed quicker than he ever had done before; Cooper’s mind was racing with thoughts as he pulled on his uniform. ‘What if we can’t stop it, will I be needed I am only a cadet.’
Cooper raced out of his quarters and ran down the corridor to the nearest turbolift, it was packed full of people all talking about the asteroid and their ideas on how they could stop it. The turbolift stopped and Cooper dashed out running towards the observation lounge; he reached the observation lounge door and hesitated for a second before entering he was so nervous he was shaking. ‘You want to be a Starfleet officer for god’s sake calm down, get in there and do your job’ Cooper thought. Cooper entered the observation lounge and saw a group of rather anxious cadets and officers. Cooper grabbed an empty seat, sat down and waited to hear from Commander McFarland about what was happening.

J'Varr T'Ress was at a replimat, preforming some routine maintenance on replicators there. He conked his head as he got out from beneath the replicator, jumping up as he heard the message. Cleaning up his tool set first he grabbed a PADD from his pocket, preforming several calculations on it.
His eyes grew in horror as he arrived at the lounge, dropping his tool set to his footpaws. Rather than waiting for McFarland to speak, he far exceeded his bounds and ran up beside the Commander.
"Sir, excuse the intrusion, but there is no time. I've been running simulations on the way down here. I've tried everything - venting plasma, phasers, warp fields, torpedoes, and I have come to only one conclusion - evacuation of all personnel. We have SD-103 and Danube-class runabouts, as well as docked vessels that could be made spaceworthy within two hours. A starbase is replaceable at a great cost. Life is irreplaceable at any cost."

Loni was up late studying when the silence of her quarters was broken by the comm. =/\= All hands, this is Commander McFarland. We have an inbound asteroid on a collision course for the Starbase. This is not a drill, I repeat this is not a drill will all officers report to their stations and join me in the Observation Lounge to determine how we are going to stop it! We have little over 5 hours so time is of the essence. =/\= She shot off the couch where she’d been lounging, the pile of PADDS scattering in every direction as they flew from her lap. One hand reached for her jacket which lay across the back of the chair by the door, the other grabbing one of the unused PADDS from a still standing pile on the table.
Loni slipped the PADD into the pocket of her jacket as she slipped it over her arms, buttoning the toggles as she ran through the corridors heading for the observation lounge. She wasn’t alone in her trek, many others were heading hurriedly in the same direction. She crammed herself into one of the turbo lifts. “Does anyone know what is going on?” She didn’t know if any of those crammed in the lift with her knew anymore than what the comm. had stated. Loni received nothing but negative replies as the doors opened and they all made a beeline for the observation lounge at the end of the corridor.
Loni entered the lounge with the others and quickly found a seat next to Cadet Cooper. “Has he said anything more since the comm?” she asked the cadet as she sat down. She turned when one of the other new comers to the starbase spoke up. Life is irreplaceable at any cost." After listening to him she pulled out the PADD and began doing some calculations of her own.

Harry Schmidt was in his quarters recording a message to his mother.
“Hi mum I got your last letter sorry I did not respond sooner but I have been extremely busy with my studies at the academy. I can not help but feel sad that dad is not here to see me now, once I have completed my academy training I am going to request a position on a ship patrolling the Romulan border. I know we have talked about it before mum but I can’t help but feel that he is alive been held by the Romulans and I am going to prove it.”
Harry was about to tell his mother about his lessons when he was interrupted by the comm. System.
=^= All hands, this is Commander McFarland. We have an inbound asteroid on a collision course for the Starbase. Harry Immediately ran towards the door as he entered the corridor he saw a flurry of people running to their stations. Harry ran towards the nearest turbolift cramming himself inside with a group of cadets, officers and civilians. When the turbolift stopped he ran as fast as he could towards the observation lounge. When he enters the observation lounge he hears a cadet say to the Commander in charge.
“……………Evacuation of all personnel. We have SD-103 and Danube-class runabouts, as well as docked vessels that could be made spaceworthy within two hours. A starbase is replaceable at a great cost. Life is irreplaceable at any cost."
Harry did not know what the cadet said before he advised evacuation but Harry was sure he wouldn’t like it. Harry sat in a seat next to two other cadets he had seen around the academy before, Harry noticed the female cadet was doing calculations Harry thought about offering his help but being a medical cadet mathematical calculations were not his forte'. Harry had so many questions but he decided to wait until the Commander started the briefing until he asked them.

Firestorm to Ennien bounded over the beds in sickbay, narrowly avoiding a few patients as he did so. "Sorry," he purred as he grabbed his medkid on the way, bouncing over yet another few (unoccupied) beds. He stopped only to check the contents, to discover his tricorder was still in his office, awaiting repair. The Sivaoan cursed under his breath as he raced back into the office on all fours, his tail flailing on behind him as he went.
When he did find a spare tricorder he raced for the doors. "Computer, activate EMH."
"Please state the nature of the medical emergency."
"Mind the store," Firestorm yowled, while he waited at the door, "I'm on the observation deck. There's an emergency."
"I'm a doctor not a shopkeeper," the EMH retorted, though the Sivaoan medic never caught his last words. The EMH sighed as he turned to the nearest distressed patient, the first one Firestorm had bounded over.
Meanwhile, Firestorm ran through the corridors, easily picking his way to the observation deck. He wasn't even out of breath when he arrived. The Sivaoan twisted and turned to get at a snag in his copper fur, then his tail twisted into a tight screw as his ears perked up in delight. "Copper!" he cried, snagging up the small copper coloured feline, "there you are!"
He glanced up when another feline walked up to him, and he cradled his precious Copper closer to his body, hissing at the other feline. A cough from McFarland made him stand down and he relaxed visibly. "An emergency?" Firestorm querried, glancing at all the cadets that were gathered, "and we're letting cadets take care of it? Are you daft commander?"
Firestorm paused, sniffing the air. "No you're not daft, obviously...but to let them assemble here...they've not the experience! What will you have them do?" He glanced up at the Caitian. "You are a Caitian," he observed, "or are you of the telepathic sort...what were they called again...tzinti or something similar sounding to that.."

T'Ress shut his eyes, exhaling in an annoyed fashion. "I get tired of explaining this. I am a Caitian. Cait is a member of the United Federation of Planets. My species resembles often the 'streamlined big cats.' Kzinti, who are a bit adverse to the Federation and are not members, universally appear like Lynxes, with tuffs of fur at their cheeks. Fangs hang from their mouths. The Kzinti do not all have psionic powers. Those that do are often noted for their neurotic, unhappy, mentally ill dispositions."
He then sighed, purring, "Excuse my disgust. I simply cannot stand to be compared to what I am not. Anyways, will you not garner support for me? Time is of the essence, and evacuation has not even begun yet."
He then shook his head once more, "Please, I beg you all to excuse my behavior. I am not as of yet used to this stress implied and I hope that I am not making enemies for myself at all."

"People tend to abhor the unknown," Firestorm explained, "I'm a Sivaoan myself and we are related to the Eiauoans, who came looking for us after millennia of shame because an illness plagued them, demanding a high death toll. On my world, their plague was a mere children's disease. We are united now, even though we remain different."
This time, Firestorm presented little Copper. "Basically, I am a mansized version of my little precious here. I am, by the way, Doctor Firestorm to Ennien." He held out a paw towards the Caitian. "And yes I would help you evacuate. What exactly is going on?"
The Sivaoan peered out the window, but his sharp vision picked up nothing. "Why are we on alert, exactly? I only heart the alarm and the call to report here."

He sighed gently, taking the paw, seeming far more pleasant now. "Your planets are member worlds, correct?' He smiled a bit, scratching Copper softly behind the ears before looking up.
The Caitian's tail slowly waved back and forth behind him, "A large asteroid is heading directly for our station and will make contact with a sufficient section of the superstructure to cause a great loss of life. We have been assembled here to discuss and make plans for whatever method is necessary to relieve ourselves of this problem."
"By the way, it is a pleasure to meet you," he said, purring and smiling.

John stood standing at the front of the observation lounge, the room was beginning to fill up with Officers, Instructors and even the Cadets. John stood at the front just staring into his PADD in his hand frantically calculating probability after probability, they had to act fast. As john cleared his throat to begin the briefing, he was interrupted by an Acting Ensign who ran in the room and blurted out their findings. The Ensign was a Caitian, a curious species that John did not know much about except for their name: "Sir, excuse the intrusion, but there is no time. Life is irreplaceable at any cost."The Ensign stated, John gave a long stare at the Ensign usually he would be annoyed at being interrupted but given the situation the Ensign’s distress and urgency was understandable. “Thank you Ensign, I understand your concerns and they have been noted. Preparations shall be made if it indeed comes to that but for now we work outside the box on how to stop it.” John finished what he was saying and then noticed another feline, talking to the one who had asked the previous question. John coughed loudly to get their attention and then the new feline decided to add their 2 cents. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"An emergency?", "and we're letting cadets take care of it? Are you daft commander?" John was flabbergasted and before he could even response he was cut off again. "No you're not daft, obviously...but to let them assemble here...they've not the experience! What will you have them do?"At least the feline had retracted his statement but John was becoming disgruntled, and then to his horror the feline began to talk to the other feline once more. John raised his voice to capture everyone in the rooms attention… “The Cadets are here at my request, if we are going to stop this asteroid we are going to need people who can think outside the box. That means people who have not been in StarFleet forever and have not become almost institutionalised and can think of solutions outwith normal protocol or processes.” John paused for breath and then pointed at the screen behind him. “Now we only have 5 hours 6 minutes until collision, so if we can stop conversing amongst ourselves and concentrate on the solutions.” John said firmly staring at the feline Doctor and then continuing with his briefing. “Now, I want everyone split into teams based upon our expertise. I’ll need all Science officers and Engineers to remain here and we shall try and find a solution to stop the immanent impact. Doctors and Medics, I need you to work together and prep for casualties. Security Officers, I need you to evacuate decks 30 through 70 and protect any civilians and be ready to evacuate the base if necessary. Women and children first but hopefully it won’t come to that. Anyone who feels they may have a solution is welcome to stay here and assist in finding a workable solution. Our efforts shall be co-ordinated from here, and I’ll need 15 minute updates from each senior officer co-ordinating each team. It is imperative not to divulge any information at this time we do not wish to cause panic! Any questions?” John had asserted control on the situation, he was not the highest ranking officer on the base, far from it! He was doing the best he could and would step aside when a more senior officer wished to take control. John stood back and waited for any questions, they needed to move fast… (OOC: Instructors/Senior Base Officers can co-ordinate each team if they choose. Alternatively use an NPC. All are welcome to come up with solutions in the Observation Lounge too

Cadet Cooper listened to Commander John McFarland’s briefing about the asteroid, and being an engineering cadet he stayed in the briefing room as the medical and security personnel left to do their jobs. Before anyone else spoke Cooper stood up and addressed the remaining officers and cadets.
“It could be possible to take a shuttle craft out and fire a directed phaser beam straight into the asteroids center. Once the phaser beam reaches the center of the asteroid we transport 300 kilograms of Antimatter in containers with remote detonators into the center of the asteroid then blow it up from the inside out. Once the asteroid has broken up into smaller pieces the stations phasers and torpedoes can destroy the smaller pieces before they hit the station”
Cooper looked around to see the reactions of everyone in the room. Cooper was worried that his idea would be ridiculed as stupid. Before anyone could respond to his theory a scary thought passed his mind.
“Also the antimatter storage for the base is on deck 34 even if we did evacuate the station escape pods cannot get far enough away before the station exploded. The escape pods would be destroyed in the explosion. We have no other choice but to come up with a way to stop it”
Cooper sat down again and waited for the response to his idea.

The Caitian again stood, though this time it was in a far more proper and respectful manner. He too had stayed when the others had left, being an Engineer. He furrowed his brow, coughing softly with a purr.
Shutting his eyes, the feline began to speak. "Ladies and Gentleman ...and others should there be an Andorian or two among us, I believe that a combination of our two concepts could be forged."
Looking to McFarland for permission to do so before he did, he slowly moved to the display screen behind him. Attaching his PADD to the wall, he touched a few buttons on the tactile interface, shaking his head. It demonstrated a tatical overview of an asteroid body being torn into quarters by an antimatter explosion. One quarter of this proceeded on course to the starbase, striking an area near the communications array at it's very bottom.
"We could evacuate the decks closest to this communications array, purrrhaps even bringing them to decks closer to the habitatation rrrring. The effect of the alerted asteroid colliding with the station could easily be handed by emergency forcefields, with next to no modifications of the forward defector array. In the aftermath, a crew of workbees would be deployed to reconstruct these decks."

Loni listened as everyone spoke, she kept her thoughts to herself for now. What she was coming up with wasn’t much anyway. The fact that it seemed as if there were more cadets than officers had her wondering if it wasn’t some sort of drill for them to work on while they waited for the Hepta to arrive. The Commander, who had apparently called them all to the lounge spoke up. “The Cadets are here at my request, if we are going to stop this asteroid we are going to need people who can think outside the box. That means people who have not been in StarFleet forever and have not become almost institutionalized and can think of solutions without normal protocol or processes.” She sat forward in her seat as he continued and listened eagerly now. Obviously it wasn’t a drill.
“Now, I want everyone split into teams based upon our expertise. I’ll need all Science officers and Engineers to remain here and we shall try and find a solution to stop the immanent impact. Doctors and Medics, I need you to work together and prep for casualties. She was about to say something when Cadet Cooper spoke up. “It could be possible to take a shuttle craft out and fire a directed phaser beam straight into the asteroids center. Loni turned towards Cooper. “What’s to stop it from breaking into several pieces all big enough to damage the station in a more widespread impact?” Her voice loud enough to carry throughout the room.

Leena hated quarters, and decided she didn't need any. She had found a place no one was using, or so she thought, out of the way. She was almost tripped over twice, and sighed as she got up and went to see what all the commotion was.
The creature walked on two instead of four for this, and entered hearing the words "widespread impact". She knew being around her young charge for the last two years that these words weren't good. She walked over to a chair and took a seat hoping for an explanation. She wasn't diappointed, and thanked the cadet for the information.
"I volunteer to help out with one of the groups. I don't know what I could do medical, but if security needs me I can try," Leena said waiting to see if this was alright with those around her.

Cooper had explained his idea and sat down when Cadet Loni Grebs turned to him and asked.
“What’s to stop it from breaking into several pieces all big enough to damage the station in a more widespread impact?”
Cadet Grebs had asked the question loud enough for everyone to hear so Cooper answered her question equally as loud.
“We could reroute all auxiliary power to the base’s shields and have the base’s weapons target the pieces on a trajectory course with the base I have been going over the base’s specs I believe there are enough weapons to deal with pieces. And even if some of the smaller pieces hit the base the emergency force fields will keep the base together until repair crews can get to work. This plan however will mean preparing all sickbays on the base for possible casualties.
When Cooper had finished explaining the finer points of his plan he looked around the room and noticed people calculating his plan on their PADDS.

Hearing the alram and walking into the briefing room staying in the back and listening to the events. K'ratak was impressed with the cadets and a little disappointed with some of the officers that were giving McFarland a hard time. Still he handle it well and watched the flow of idea's from the Cadets.
Not want to break there train of thought or change there directions because it seemed to him there thinking outside the box might just save the station. Listend to the concern about what might hit the station and thinking to himself and speaking up.
" Uh excuse me but has anybody thought about checking to see what ships are availble in the area or docked at the station. I'm not a scientest or a engineering so I dont know if it would do any good to know that. But it might give you guys some other resources to use like I said I dont know if it would help you guys would have to decided that" <Tag anybody>

John had explained what he felt everyone should be doing and the Cadets were giving much more input on how to stop the asteroid than the officers. John smiled, the Cadets were proving him right and the ideas were flowing around the room. John listened intently as Cooper put forth his plan: “It could be possible to take a shuttle craft out and fire a directed phaser beam straight into the asteroids center. Once the phaser beam reaches the center of the asteroid we transport 300 kilograms of Antimatter in containers with remote detonators into the center of the asteroid then blow it up from the inside out. Once the asteroid has broken up into smaller pieces the stations phasers and torpedoes can destroy the smaller pieces before they hit the station” He paused briefly before continuing. “Also the antimatter storage for the base is on deck 34 even if we did evacuate the station escape pods cannot get far enough away before the station exploded. The escape pods would be destroyed in the explosion. We have no other choice but to come up with a way to stop it”John nodded silently, considering Cooper’s suggestion it seemed like the correct course to take. Before he could speak Cadet Grebs asked Cooper a question: “What’s to stop it from breaking into several pieces all big enough to damage the station in a more widespread impact?”Cooper answered like a flash: “We could reroute all auxiliary power to the base’s shields and have the base’s weapons target the pieces on a trajectory course with the base I have been going over the base’s specs I believe there are enough weapons to deal with pieces. And even if some of the smaller pieces hit the base the emergency force fields will keep the base together until repair crews can get to work. This plan however will mean preparing all sickbays on the base for possible casualties.”~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Just before he could respond he noticed Leena, the companion of Assistant Academy Commandant, Joan McCormick. Leena spoke up as she entered, clearly looking to be of help… "I volunteer to help out with one of the groups. I don't know what I could do medical, but if security needs me I can try,"John smiled “Any and everyway you could help would be very much appreciated, if you could assist in moving personnel from the decks in immediate danger and prepare them for the worst.” As John was about to reply to the strategy put forth he noticed Commander K'ratak spoke up… “Uh excuse me but has anybody thought about checking to see what ships are availble in the area or docked at the station. I'm not a scientest or a engineering so I dont know if it would do any good to know that. But it might give you guys some other resources to use like I said I dont know if it would help you guys would have to decided that" John acknowledged his fellow Commander and then begun… “A good point K’ratak, I was considering the same thing myself. I think we should have a contingency plan, targeting the asteroid seems like the only option but the risk of not getting all the fragments destroyed and then the fragments smashing all decks, there is no way to control or predict the damage. Do we have any vessels docked with a delfector which would be powerful enough to alter the asteroid’s course? I don’t have the information to hand…” John turned to the countdown timer: “4 hours 59 minutes and 10 seconds until collision.” John paused and then spoke again: “The asteroid wont be in weapon’s range for another 1 hour and 40 minutes, we need more options. Firing on the asteroid will be our last resort, we need some way to knock it off course.” (Tag All, anymore bright ideas? )

Simon woke suddenly from his sleep, moving over to the consol in his quarters he looked to see what the time was. Realising the time was only a little after 0200 hours, Simon made his way back to bed to sleep. Just before reaching it he heard an announcement on the Comm.
Simon did not like the sound of that communication, quickly changing he walked out of his quarters and straight down to the main Sickbay on the base.
~~Sick Bay-Bellicose~~
As he walked in he saw what he was afraid of, the staff were in a panic, many of them had not been on a ship since training and some for almost 2 decades after their last space flight. “Everyone calm down. Right we have 4 hours to make everything in this and the over sickbays ready for casualties” looking around he noted he had 7 doctors and 9 nurses here which was no where near enough, “Right I need all the sickbays brought online, that includes emergency holograms and any medical staff members, I do not care if they only just got to bed, get them here and get them ready. Get all sickbays staffed with at least 2 doctors and three nurses. Anyone else will be making preparations in the main sickbay for any patients there in case we have to move them in the event of an evaluation.” Simon looked around the room to see everyone staring at him “Well don’t just stand there, MOVE!” at this every single person continued moving quickly, but this time with purpose.
A few moments later one of the nurses came to Simon, “Sir, we have 19 patients presently in sickbay, 11 of them could walk out of here on their own, but need to be monitored. The rest will need to be moved very carefully, with medical staff present as their conditions are either critical or unstable. And sir why did you say 4 hours, I thought the announcement said 5?” Simon smiled at her, “thank you for the report, and I said 4 because you know what some officers are like it is shot first and think later, I would prefer this place up to 110% before the go off and start blasting it” both Simon and the nurse laughed at the thought “right keep everything going I am going to see what is being planed so we are ready”
~~Observation Lounge~~
Simon walked in to see John at the far end of the room, obviously in charge. Making his way forward he heard john speak. “I was considering the same thing myself. Firing on the asteroid will be our last resort, we need some way to knock it off course.”
Simon did not like the idea of having the base hit on all sides reaching the front of the group he moved over to John to show support for him and the cadets. “Commander Simon Barnes reporting in” receiving nods from the staff present Simon continued before they could respond “Sickbays are being prepped for possible casualties and we are preparing to move critical patients should an evacuation order be made, I need as many medical hands as possible though if we are staying, there are far to many people on the base to deal with. Worst case scenario we could deal with maybe 30% of the base’s population but with more staff and equipment that can function with the bases power supply we could not deal with much more than that”

(OOC sorry for a bit of a back post but I only just noticed this, if there are any medical cadet feel free to make ideas and possibly take over a sickbay)

With some sadness, Firestorm saw the Caitian leave, but when one was told to disembark to report for duty, even an emergency could not stop such a person. Orders were orders, at all times. "Good luck," Firestorm called after the retreating acting ensign, though the young man's answer was lost in the noise around them.
A little later, a male in teal entered the conference lounge and Firestorm bounded towards him, snaking his tail about the man's wrist. "You must be Doctor Barnes," he breathed in awe, "I'm Firestorm to Ennien and I got here to help out as I heard the call for people to help. He nodded towards the cadets. "They got their heads screwed on right I might add...they're bright young folk though I still feel McFarland over there is a little crazy in letting them deal with this on their own."
The Sivaoan released Barnes' wrist and nodded towards McFarland. "He seems to have it under control though, even though I didn't understand half of what these bright young'uns were talking about. I understand science and medicine, but that's about it." This time, he snagged Cooper by the sleeve as the young cadet walked past. "Could you please explain in not too difficult words what you mean?"

Harry had sat and listened as people tried to come up with plans to stop the asteroid, not being an engineer he had no idea what they were saying all Harry could understand was one of them wanted to blow it up. Harry was about to go to one of the sickbays and report in when a senior doctor walked into the observation lounge.
“Commander Simon Barnes reporting in” Commander Barnes then said.
“Sickbays are being prepped for possible casualties and we are preparing to move critical patients should an evacuation order be made, I need as many medical hands as possible though if we are staying, there are far too many people on the base to deal with. Worst case scenario we could deal with maybe 30% of the base’s population but with more staff and equipment that can function with the bases power supply we could not deal with much more than that”
Harry did not like the sound of that and he decided to leave the problem of the asteroid with the engineers. Harry left the observation lounge and went to the closest computer terminal. “Computer show me the base’s deck plan.” The computer activated and Harry noticed the main sickbay was on deck 16 Harry thought about reporting in there but decided against it thinking there would a full medical staff already there. Harry looked for another sickbay Harry saw Sickbay Beta on deck 52. With that Harry made his way to the turbolift, when he got inside he said “deck 52”. When the turbolift had stopped Harry made his way to the sickbay. Harry entered the sickbay and noticed three nurses and four orderlies. Harry then said loud enough for the computer to register “Computer activate the emergency medical hologram” As soon as Harry had finished the command a man appeared out of thin air. “Please state the nature of the medical emergency” the hologram had said to no one in particular. Harry looked the hologram over and said “Doctor all sickbays need to be brought online and made ready for a base wide emergency” The holographic doctor looked Harry over skeptically “are you qualified to take over a sickbay”. Harry paused and then yelled loud enough for the all the medical staff in the sickbay to hear. “I may be a cadet but I have my medical degree from Cambridge university and until a senior doctor walks in here I am in charge we need to get this sickbay ready for casualties lets get to work”. All the staff in the sickbay started to activate the Bio-beds and prepare the medical equipment for use. (ooc: any senior doctors are welcome to take charge of this sickbay)

“What’s to stop it from breaking into several pieces all big enough to damage the station in a more widespread impact?” Loni listened as Cooper replied to her question. This plan however will mean preparing all sickbays on the base for possible casualties.” She turned as someone else spoke. " Uh excuse me but has anybody thought about checking to see what ships are available in the area or docked at the station. I'm not a scientist or a engineering so I don’t know if it would do any good to know that. But it might give you guys some other resources to use like I said I don’t know if it would help you guys would have to decided that" Loni thought for a second. “Why can’t we use some of the current ships to transport the non-essential personnel away from the station? Or use them in conjunction with the stations weapons?” Her question once again loud enough for all to hear.

John was standing after finishing what he was saying and saw Dr. Simon Barnes enter the room, he came to the front and John nodded in aknowledge as Simon joined him at the front of the lounge. John had been feeling a little intimidated at the front of the room with all the eyes on him and Simon’s support was welcomed. As the Doctor spoke, John couldn’t help but be concerned at sickbays only being able to cope with 30% of the population.
“Sickbays are being prepped for possible casualties and we are preparing to move critical patients should an evacuation order be made, I need as many medical hands as possible though if we are staying, there are far to many people on the base to deal with. Worst case scenario we could deal with maybe 30% of the base’s population but with more staff and equipment that can function with the bases power supply we could not deal with much more than that”
John turned to Simon: “Thank you Dr. Barnes, I pray it doesn’t come to that. If you and Dr. Firestorm could co-ordinate the medical effort and report status updates every 15mins. If you need anymore manpower, there are plenty of officers here who would be happy to offer you assistant?”

After conversing with Doctor Barnes, John heard Cadet Grebs ask a question, John quickly responded as the information had become available to him. A junior officer had run off to find out what ships were docked within the station and handed John a PADD with the detailed information.
“Why can’t we use some of the current ships to transport the non-essential personnel away from the station? Or use them in conjunction with the stations weapons?”
John smiled, “Well we have 50 Danube class runabouts space worthy and 2 Saber class vessels docked on the Base. With each Danube being able to evacuate 40 people and the Sabers evacuating 500 each – then we can evacuate 3000 non essential personnel at maximum. Which opens up our options significantly, I am still quite intrigued by Cooper’s plan to use the antimatter to destroy the asteroid. Its something I did not consider, how much of the asteroid would we destroy in the initial blast? We could take one of the ships out to the asteroid beam the antimatter into its center and fire before the blast could damage the station.”
John turned to Cooper, the antimatter being used to cause an explosion which would destroy the asteroid or most of it seemed like a more successful plan than using the base’s weapons on their own.

Cooper had been doing some calculations on his PADD when Commander Barnes walked in to the observation lounge.
Sickbays are being prepped for possible casualties and we are preparing to move critical patients should an evacuation order be made, I need as many medical hands as possible though if we are staying, there are far to many people on the base to deal with. Worst case scenario we could deal with maybe 30% of the base’s population but with more staff and equipment that can function with the bases power supply we could not deal with much more than that”
After Barnes had finished explaining the medical capacity of the station Cooper noticed Cadet Schmidt rush out of the room ‘I wonder where he is off to’ Cooper thought.
Commander McFarland was then approached by a young officer who handed a PADD to him. McFarland then smiled ‘A smile that’s a good sign’ Cooper had thought.
“Well we have 50 Danube class runabouts space worthy and 2 Saber class vessels docked on the Base. With each Danube being able to evacuate 40 people and the Sabers evacuating 500 each – then we can evacuate 3000 non essential personnel at maximum. We could take one of the ships out to the asteroid beam the antimatter into its center and fire before the blast could damage the station.” Commander McFarland said.
McFarland turned to Cooper after he had finished telling everyone how many ships were on the station. Cooper took this opportunity to tell everyone how much of the asteroid would be vaporized by the initial antimatter explosion.
Cooper looked down at his PADD to double check his findings then spoke up.
“According to my calculations the initial antimatter explosion would vaporize about 70 percent of the asteroid’s inner core causing the asteroid to be blown apart.” Cooper looked around to make sure he was not talking to fast for everyone to follow Then he finished explaining the rest of his plan. “When the asteroid has exploded the thing we must remember is that not all of the pieces of the asteroid will be flying towards the station once it has been broken up into manageable pieces we can detect the smaller fragments that are still on a course for the station and have the 2 Saber class vessels either destroy the pieces or use their tractor beam to push them on another course away from the station” Cooper had finished explaining his plan and looked around to see if anyone had any criticisms or questions.

Again she listened in silence. “When the asteroid has exploded the thing we must remember is that not all of the pieces of the asteroid will be flying towards the station once it has been broken up into manageable pieces we can detect the smaller fragments that are still on a course for the station and have the 2 Saber class vessels either destroy the pieces or use their tractor beam to push them on another course away from the station” after he finished she spoke up. “What if some of the fragments are still too large? What then?” She was only trying to cover all the bases and make sure everything that could be done, would be.

Cooper had finished explaining his plan again when the cadet next to him asked another question.
“What if some of the fragments are still too large? What then?”
Cooper took a deep breath and stated firmly enough so that everyone knew he was tired of explaining himself.
“None of the pieces could be too large for the 2 saber class starships to handle, The asteroid is relatively small now at only half a kilometer in diameter once it has been broken up the remaining fragments that pose a danger to the station will be small enough to handle I have done the calculations three times”
Cooper walked over to the main screen and downloaded his work on it so everyone could see the computer demonstration. On the screen a computer generated picture of the asteroid exploded and it broke up just as Cooper had predicted. Cooper paused the demonstration and said to the computer. “Computer enhance grid H-7” Cooper then stated a little friendlier this time. “as you can see this fragment is only 200 meters wide which is small enough to destroy with quantum torpedoes or to push out of the way with a tractor beam I know this is only a computer generated outcome and we have no way of knowing what sizes the fragments will be in but any size smaller than 350 meters in diameter can be destroyed or pushed out of the way by tractor beams and after 70 percent of the asteroid has been vaporized it is about on hundred thousand too one chance there will be a fragment over 350 diameters wide” Cooper walked back to his chair and sat down
