Minimission: Incoming...

Cmdr. K'rataks reply surprised her. "No cadet it wont stop you from shooting at the rock. If you part of the Klingon defense force even it you were a doctor you would be expected to know how to shoot. There oaths to cause no harm aren't quite the same as the federations. Not to mention I believe in well round cadets who know the basic operations of key system. I see no reason why you cant do that today, after all there may come a time where you will have to fire the ships weapons and you might as well learn how." Loni smiled slightly before replying. “Thank you for your confidence in me Sir.”

Loni hoped that she wouldn’t let the Commander or the Starbase down and was able to assist in taking out the danger which approached them. She was still thinking about the asteroid, her oath and the opportunity which lie before her when Cmdr. K'ratak spoke again. "Well Cadet Grebs I think its time for me and you to go I want to get you basic trained on tactical and weapons as fast as possible"

“Yes Sir.” The butterflies were fluttering around in her stomach full force at this point but she swallowed and nodded. “Lead the way Sir.”

John was startled as the his comm. badge beeped, it had caught him unawares as he had his head firmly wedged in a wall panel with a burned out circuit in his hand. Pulling his head out from the wall panel he tapped his comm. badge.
=^= K’ratak, Its John here! Thank you for the update, I’m almost finished down here… I’ll be ready to launch the mission as soon as everything is aboard. =^=

John stopped before transferring more circuits and stared down at his pad:
“4 hours 2 minutes and 22 seconds until collision.”

I best hurry up, John thought to himself. He just had to switch over a couple more circuits and then run the override. John entered the command into his terminal to run the override, this time there was no spark, and power levels had returned to 100%. That’s a relief, John smiled to himself, just as he was about to put down tools, Cooper approached and explained he had to prep the USS Explore.

“Okay then, good luck Cadet. See you on the ship Cooper, me and Reyes will take it from here.” John answered and then turned to Simon. “Hows it going Simon, you should have full power now?”

Cooper had just finished his repairs on the biobeds with Lt. Reyes when his Comm. badge activated.
=^=" Cadet Cooper prepare your shipment for transport to the U.S.S Explore. She will be the ship that will be taking us out."=^=
Cooper tapped his Comm. badge and replied.
=^=” Yes sir I will make the preparations now”=^=
Cooper walked over to Commander McFarland who seemed to be close to completely repairing the power supply and said.
“Sir I have been ordered to make preparations to transport the 300 kilograms of antimatter to the U.S.S Explore “
Commander McFarland looked up from his work and replied.
“Okay then, good luck Cadet. See you on the ship Cooper, me and Reyes will take it from here.”
Cooper smiled and said.
“Thank you Sir”
Cooper left The sickbay and made his way to the base’s engineering section when he arrived he explained the situation to the engineering staff and was prepared to transport the antimatter the Explore when he decided to contact the U.S.S Explore and make sure they had the force fields ready.

He tapped his comm. Badge again and said.
=^=”Transporter room 2 please commence transport of the antimatter in the containers on my command”=^=. Again the response came swiftly.

Cooper looked over the containers one last time and made sure the remote detonators were in place he did not want them to go to all this trouble and have the bombs be a dud. Cooper smiled as he tapped his Comm. Badge and said.
=^=”Transporter room 2 energize”=^=.
Cooper watched as the containers were transported away then turned and left the engineering room. When reached the airlock connecting the U.S.S Explore to the base Cooper stopped and decided to wait for Commander McFarland to get there before reporting in on the ship.

After conversing with Simon, John turned to him:
“Simon are you coming on the ship? Or have you got too much work to do here?”

“Well I need to go and check that things have been prepped for the flight and we have everything we need. You don’t have long to decide mate, if you want to come along we might need you…”

With that John allowed his voice to trail off and allowed Simon to think about that as he left the now repaired and operational sickbay and headed for the USS Explore. John waved his arm behind his back as he left towards Doctor Barnes. John made his way back to the Observation Lounge, he wanted to see how the upcoming mission to destroy the asteroid was developing. Reaching the lounge he saw Commander Reynolds handling the situation, John smiled he had a wealth of respect for his superior. Arriving next to her he said:

“Can I be of any help Commander, how is the prepping for the mission going?”

He had to admire the Cadets Grebs Can go attitude it was one of the small things he like about his teaching job. "Very well Cadet" Hitting his Comm Badge " Explore two to beam directly to the bridge" A Few secounds later they were both standing on the bridge. There was lot of work going preparing for departure.

Looking over at Cadet Grebs " This way cadet" he walked over to the tatical station and Started to bring things on line. " Okay simple way to put this Left hand screen brings up tatical display of the target. Your location to it speed direction and what weapons are with in its range. Right hand screen shows you available weapons and power settings. Why dont you start studying these first for a few mins and then well go from there." <Tag Grebs>

Angel heard him and sighed not liking things at all. She watched him handling things and listened until he had to head down to sickbay to help out. She knew it was then she needed to take over this part.

A little later Commander McFarland returned asking how he could help and how things were going she smiled.

"We have security working on getting people ready to be evacuated, but the closest ship that can hold all of these people is another day or two away. They won't be any help to us. The Hepta can take a few people if we really need to go that way, but it looks like hunkering down and staying put is our only solution. We have rounded up everyone and have them in the upper decks for now. If that thing does hit us, I'm hoping it will continue to target the lower decks and not curve upward," she said informing him of what they had done in his abscense.

"I hope the sickbays are ready just in case we need them. If this thing splinters like you say, we could be in trouble. If it hits the lower decks we can always rebuild, but if it hits the upper decks, we could be killed. You know what you have to do when you are out there now," she said scowling at the situation.

Loni and Cmdr. K'ratak were transported directly to the bridge. She glanced around at the activity as the ship prepared for departure. People rushing from place to place. Quickly she pulled herself back to the task at hand at the Commander.

"This way cadet" he said as he led her to the tactical station. She watched each button he pushed, each move he made. She knew it was important to what she was being asked to learn on the fly and for the safety of the station.

"Okay, simple way to put this Left hand screen brings up tactical display of the target. Your location to it speed direction and what weapons are with in its range. Right hand screen shows you available weapons and power settings. Why don't you start studying these first for a few minutes and then well go from there."

Loni nodded as he spoke and replied. "Yes Sir." She stepped to the console and began going over the controls, paying close attention to each display as he indicated them.
She verbally went over each portion of the display, her voice a whisper. This was how she memorized everything by talking to herself. It didn't bother her if people looked at her funny as long as she learned what she needed to.

After Commander Reynolds had finished getting John back up to speed on what was happening on the base, John replied:

“Sounds like you’ve got it all under control Ma’am.” John smiled coyly, he was happy to be doing engineering work it was his passion and what he joined the Federation for. Not to command…

"I hope the sickbays are ready just in case we need them. If this thing splinters like you say, we could be in trouble. “Sickbays across the base are now fully operational, I’ll make sure we get all of the asteroid for you. I will be leading the team to destroy the asteroid it will take very careful precision in placing the antimatter inside the asteroid and firing upon it. We should have base weapons and shields standing by in the event that the asteroid splinters.” John looked at the timer…

“3 hours 53 minutes and 43 seconds until collision.”

“I must leave for the USS Explore, we need to be leaving the base to destroy the asteroid. Wish me luck…” John said to Angel as he headed for the door.

Arriving at the docking bay he saw Cooper leaning against the airlock door. John smiled, the Cadet was eager to learn… he reminded John of himself or what he imagined himself as a cadet.

“Cadet, its time we moved out. How are the preparations going? Have we got everything we need?”

Cooper was leaning against the airlock door waiting for Commander McFarland to arrive he had considered boarding the ship before the Commander got there and was about to open the airlock when he saw Commander McFarland appear from around the corner.
Cooper noticed Commander McFarland smile as he approached Cooper smiled back before Commander McFarland asked.
“Cadet, its time we moved out. How are the preparations going? Have we got everything we need?”

Cooper looked down at his PADD before replying.
“Aye sir I transported the 300 kilograms of antimatter to the cargo bay it is behind a level 10 force field, I also took the liberty of attaching the detonator devices to the containers. Once the detonators are activated we will have 45 seconds to get to a safe distance”

After McFarland and Cooper boarded the Saber class U.S.S Explore they were walking toward a turbolift when Cooper asked.
“Sir were do you want me for this mission on the bridge or engineering”

After requesting an update on the mission preparations, Cooper replied looking at his padd and detailing the preparations which had been made.
“Aye sir I transported the 300 kilograms of antimatter to the cargo bay it is behind a level 10 force field, I also took the liberty of attaching the detonator devices to the containers. Once the detonators are activated we will have 45 seconds to get to a safe distance”

John nodded, and strode up to the airlock door. Turning it to open the airlock and move into the Explore. Turning to Cooper, John put his arm out…
“After you Cooper”

John and Cooper made there way to the nearest turbolift, Cooper turned to John.
“Sir were do you want me for this mission on the bridge or engineering”

“We’ll both be on the bridge, Cooper you will be at the Engineering station on the bridge. I’ll need you to monitor the engines and relay any information we need whilst monitoring the antimatter canisters.” John replied definitively as they both entered the turbolift.

“Bridge” John barked.
Once stepping onto the bridge, John noticed the bridge crew darting from side to side making final preparations and watched Commander K’ratak instructing Cadet Grebs, they seemed to be forming a good team. John cleared his throat and then relayed his orders.

“All departments report, Helm release all moorings and umbilicals and prepare to depart the station we depart once we run a final check and ensure all necessary preparations are in place.”

After Cooper asked Commander McFarland where he wanted Cooper McFarland said.
“We’ll both be on the bridge, Cooper you will be at the Engineering station on the bridge. I’ll need you to monitor the engines and relay any information we need whilst monitoring the antimatter canisters.”
Cooper was a little surprised at being given a bridge position during the mission he was after all only a cadet.
After Cooper and McFarland stepped onto the bridge they looked around before taking their positions. Cooper walked over to the engineering station as Cooper arrived there the ensign sitting in the chair got up and patted Cooper on the shoulder as he said.
“Good luck cadet I will be in engineering if you need any help”.
Cooper smiled at the ensign and said.
“Thank you sir”

Cooper sat in the chair and brought up the engine statues report on his monitor. Cooper swiveled around his chair and listened as Commander McFarland addressed the crew.
“All departments report, Helm release all moorings and umbilicals and prepare to depart the station we depart once we run a final check and ensure all necessary preparations are in place.”
Cooper spoke up first and said.
“Engineering reports it is ready captain”

Cooper smiled as he said captain and it seemed to take McFarland a little by surprise Cooper thought it shouldn’t have since it was customary to call the ships commanding officer captain.
Cooper got back to work checking the ships systems as the other departments reported in.

Loni was busy with her crash course in tactical when Cmdr. McFarland and Cadet Cooper joined them on the bridge. She acknowledged the two with a brief nod of her head and went back to work. She knew how important it was for her to do her job and get it right.

She swallowed watching the timer next to her station counting down until impact. Would they be ready in time and would she be able to do what she needed to do. The Captain, in this case, Cmdr. McFarland looked around the bridge at the green cadets and sent a ship wide comm.

She turned back to Cmdr. K'ratak and asked some more questions regarding the tactical display.

Harry Schmidt had been in sickbay for the last 90 minutes and the flow of patients with minor injuries had slowed down considerably. Harry had heard from a Lieutenant that the U.S.S Explore was about to leave to stop the asteroid and Harry quickly decide to report in on the starship after all being so close to an explosion there was a chance there would be some injuries. Harry turned around from the medical readouts on the monitor and looked at the doctor who had just been sent down from the main base’s sickbay and said.
“I am going to report in on the U.S.S Explore will you be okay here”
The doctor looked up from his medical tricorder and replied.
“Yes we will be fine the number of patients coming through has slowed down, Good luck on the mission”.
Harry smiled and said “Thanks hopefully we won’t need luck”.
Harry ran all the way to the airlock which connected the base to the starship Harry pushed the button and the airlock rolled open.
After Harry had located the turbo lift he stepped inside and said “Deck 1”.
When Harry stepped out of the turbo lift he noticed his two fellow cadets Loni Grebs and Cooper already manning bridge posts. Harry walked over to the center of the bridge where Commander John McFarland was sitting in the captain’s chair.
When Harry was close enough for the Commander to hear him he said.
“Medical cadet Harry Schmidt reporting in sir hopefully I won’t be needed but better safe than sorry”

Cooper Had just turned around to continue his work when he got an emergency message on his screen it stated.

Dr Firestorm To Ennien wishes to join the mission please transport him directly to the bridge

Cooper tapped several keys on his monitor and in less than five seconds later the doctor was materialized on the bridge of the U.S.S Explore. Cooper looked at the doctor as he appeared to get his footing after being through the transporter.
The doctor looked like a man sized cat except he was standin on his hind legs and he was carrying a pet cat that had exactly the same colour fur as the doctor did. Cooper found himself mesmorized by the copper red fur they both had it seemed to shine in the bright lights of the bridge.
Dr. Firestorm To Ennien walked over to commander McFarland who was sitting in the captain’s chair in the center of the bridge and reported in just as Harry Schmidt had done a minute earlier.

"Seems they forgot about me," Firestorm purred as he cast Cooper a grateful glance. His fur stood on end in fear, his pupils dilated and his tail lashing furiously. In his arms, little Copper mewed piteously and struggled to be put down. The Sivaoan obliged her and she scooted under the nearest console.

"I take it Doctor Barnes has asked someone else to take over in main sickbay on Conqueror?" he querried. At McFarland's nod, Firestorm walked over to Cooper. "Thank you for getting me aboard, now could you please tell me what we are about to do? Why are we heading towards an asteroid that is hurling at maddening speed towards Conqueror? Why aren't we tractoring it, or deflecting it?"

Firestorm stood beside the cadet, waiting patiently for him to explain what he was doing, and what his suggestions were. As a doctor, a civillian one at that, Starfleet news was generally beyond him, unless it had to do with his own profession as either a doctor or a scientist. "And is there anything I can do to help?"

After Dr. Firestorm To Ennien had checked in with Commander McFarland he made his way back to Cooper. The doctor looked at Cooper a second before asking him.

"Thank you for getting me aboard, now could you please tell me what we are about to do? Why are we heading towards an asteroid that is hurling at maddening speed towards Conqueror? Why aren't we tractoring it, or deflecting it?" "And is there anything I can do to help?"

Cooper smiled as he now had a chance to explain what he thought was a brilliant plan again. Cooper brought up the computer image of the asteroid pointed towards it as he said.

“I know you are a doctor so I will spare you the technical stuff, This asteroid Is to big to be tractored or deflected no ship in range has the power that is needed to undertake the task, So what we are doing is punching a hole into the center of the asteroid with phasers, then we place 300 kilograms of antimatter in containers with remote detonators into the center of the asteroid and then we blow it up from the inside.”

Cooper paused for a second and looked at the doctor to make sure he was not getting confused then continued.

“Once the asteroid has broken apart any of the smaller fragments that are still heading for the station can be tractored or destroyed before they get to the station”

Cooper smiled at the doctor as he swept a lock of blonde hair that had fallen in front of his eyes away. Cooper then asked.

“Any questions Doctor”

Ears lying flat, Firestorm shook his head. "No, not right now," he answered as he lay a paw on the cadet's shoulder, patting it gently. "Good work cadet. "Now, what will you have me do? I assume Doctor Barnes is in sickbay, preparing for possible casualties."

The Sivaoan turned towards McFarland, then towards all other cadets gathered on the bridge. "What...never seen a giant cat before?" he purred, his tail coling in delight anew. "Well get to your duties, all of you. That comet doesn't get blasted apart by itself you know."

He turned back to Cooper. "Tell me, how do you intend to drill into that comet without endangering your lives?"

John had finished giving his order to prepare for departure as he started to be handed PADDs from all directions. The joys of command, he mused – lots and lots of reports. One of the reasons John never made it past Commander, that and his eccentricity and his tendency to be insubordinate to superiors but only now and again. John smiled a he dazed off, into a dream from his past only to be awoken from his slumber by a Cadet, a medical one at that.

“Medical cadet Harry Schmidt reporting in sir hopefully I won’t be needed but better safe than sorry”

John tried not to appear startled, he had been in a world of his own.
He just chuckled.

“Did Barnes send you to make sure, I didn’t get us all killed Cadet?”

“Very well Cadet, report in to the ship’s sickbay. I’m sure they’ll appreciate the help and its nice to have you aboard.”

As John leaned back in the Captain’s chair he stared at PADD after PADD, thumb printing them as we went. “We have authorization to leave from Conqueror, Helm take us out on my mark.” Before John could give the order he was presented with the feline Doctor he remembered from earlier briefings.

“I take it Doctor Barnes has asked someone else to take over in main sickbay on Conqueror?” Asked Dr. Firestorm, John just nodded. John watched as the Doctor went over with Cooper, he wondered what they were discussing, it looked like the Doctor was remaining on the Bridge. ‘Civilians’ John mused.

“Helm lay in a course for intercept of the asteroid.” The duty navigation officer, smiled and nodded as she set in the course. Once clear of the space-dock, the Explore began a lazy turn to Port, with Conqueror fading into the distance on the viewscreen as the ship turned. Then the Explore leapt into warp, speeding towards the asteroid.

“Helm, how long until intercept?”
“Approximately 5 minutes, Sir.” Came the reply

John stared down at his countdown timer:
“3 hours 37 minutes and 10 seconds until collision.”
They were cutting it close, John thought to himself.

“Cadet Cooper have the antimatter ready for transport, Cadet Grebs – I hope you don’t have an itchy trigger finger be prepared to fire as soon as transport is complete once we reach a safe distance that is.”

" Okay Grebs lets get down to what we have to do, First your going to have to figure out what power levels you want to use. Since all we want to do is make a whole and not blow one clean through it. You 'll have to talk to Cadet Cooper on settings, he should be able to tell you after he dose his scan." Looking at the cadet he could tell she was a little nervous but she was hiding it well.

" Next we have to figure out the angle you want to use. Thats what the tatical display is for it gives you the differnt angles you can use. Its up to you to figure out which one you feel comfortable with. You can have the helm change course to come in at the direction you want. Next is timing think of timeing. Okay this is a rock so dont get to caught up with everything I'm telling you. Forget about the star base and everthing else just concentrate on the rock. Study it. I'll be right next to you all the way to help you out Okay." <Tag Grebs>

Looking back down at Commander Mcfarland " Sir we have full power on weapons we are waiting for scans and Cadet cooper suggestions for where to fire. Dont want to hit a mineral deposit or anything else that might slow us down." <Tag Mcfarland>

Despite all of Noah's efforts to calm him, Jayvee still continued to cry. "Has he been fed recently?" he asked Kahlan.

"Uh-huh," was the child's simple reply.

"Then that must mean..." He turned Jayvee around, lifted the boy's rear up to his noise and sniffed. "Yep, that's what I thought," he said, holding Jayvee out a bit.

"Is he stinky?" Kahlan asked outright.

"Very," Noah replied.

"You change him over there," she said pointing to a table in corner.

"Will you help me, Kahlan?" he asked as he rolled toward the changing table. For once in a very rare while, he used the chair's motor controls so that he could manuever one-handed while holding Jayvee.

"Sure!" she said, bounding over to perform her duties as big sister.

Noah rolled up to the changing table and lifted Jayvee onto it. The situation posed a bit of a problem. Noah's chair was too low. Whilst Jayvee whined on the table, Noah lifted the chair's control PADD out of its pocket, and went into the chair's manual control. Tweaking the hardware that usually functioned to allow him to take stairs, he used it to physically raise the chair higher.

By the time he lifted himself up, Kahlan had climbed up on the table, and was already pulling Jayvee's diaper off. She handed the smelly, squishy mess to Noah. Pheeooo did it smell bad. He rolled it up, fastened it closed again, and dropped it in the waste chute that was strategically placed next to the changing table. The Edwards' placed the table well.

Kahlan had obviously done this many times before. Gratefully, Noah just assisted as Kahlan wiped Jayvee's bum, sprinkled him with baby powder, and got out a new diaper. Then she turned to Noah. "Help me?" she asked.

Noah smiled, and lifted up Jayvee's legs while Kahlan slipped the diaper on, and fastened it down. "All done!" she proclaimed, proud of herself. Noah lowered his chair back down, and lifted Jayvee back off the table. "Thank you, Kahlan," as he settled Jayvee in his lap. She slid off the table, and plopped herself in his lap as well.

She looked down at the controls. "Is this how you move it?" she asked, pointing to them. "Can I try it?"

"Sure, just a moment" Noah said, and turned the chair back around. "Now, this is forward, this is reverse, this is left, and this is right," he said, pointing to each of them in turn.

She pushed the forward button, and shrieked in delight as they rolled toward the playpen. She rolled them right up to it. "Careful!" he said, but too late, as they bumped right into the side of the playpen. "Oh well, close enough," he said, and put Jayvee down.

"Can I try again?" Kahlan asked?

"Me too!" Yarna yelled as she climbed onto Noah.

"Okay, okay," Noah said, holding onto them both.

Dr. Firestorm To Ennien had just asked Cooper.
"Now, what will you have me do? I assume Doctor Barnes is in sickbay, preparing for possible casualties."

Cooper thought for a second and then replied.
“I can’t think of anything at the moment doctor perhaps Commander McFarland would like to have you do something, and I don’t know the were abouts of Dr. Barnes at the moment.

Cooper continued to work on the calculations of his plan when Dr. Firestorm To Ennien said loudly to the bridge crew.
"What...never seen a giant cat before?" Cooper heard him purr then Dr. Firestorm said. "Well get to your duties, all of you. That comet doesn't get blasted apart by itself you know."

The doctor then turned back to Cooper and asked.

"Tell me, how do you intend to drill into that comet without endangering your lives?"

Cooper took a deep breath he was a little annoyed at being asked questions while he was trying to work. Cooper looked up at the doctor and smiled politely and said.
“There is no danger in drilling in to the asteroid with the phasers”

Cooper then got back to work he was trying to locate the best place on the asteroid to aim the phasers in order to get to the center.
Cooper was about to get up and go over to Cadet Loni Grebs and Commander K’ratak in order to give them the location to fire phasers when Commander McFarland gave him an order.

“Cadet Cooper have the antimatter ready for transport, Cadet Grebs – I hope you don’t have an itchy trigger finger be prepared to fire as soon as transport is complete once we reach a safe distance that is.”

Cooper looked at McFarland and said.
“The antimatter is already ready for transport Sir”

Commander McFarland gave Cooper a nod when Commander K’ratak spoke up.
" Sir we have full power on weapons we are waiting for scans and Cadet cooper suggestions for where to fire. Don’t want to hit a mineral deposit or anything else that might slow us down."

Cooper got up and walked over to the tactical station and pushed in a few buttons then said to Loni Grebs and Commander K’ratak.

“I have marked the location that needs to be fired on this diagram of the asteroid there is no mineral pockets all the down to the center you will need to fire the phasers at a fifteen degree angle, once we get to a safe distance after transporting the antimatter you will need to activate the remote detonators”

Cooper then walked back over to the engineering station and sat back down and waited for McFarland’s future orders.

Trying very hard not to laugh at Cadet Cooper he knew he was having a hard time right now. He was busy trying to manage everthing needed to be done with constant interuptions from everybody and then having to explain what he was doing. He felt sorry for the cadet and admired him for not loosing his cool with anybody. He was going to make somebody a very officer.

Looking back over at cooper and the doctor still standing there. " Doctor Firestrom why dont you come over here one of your medical cadets is about to do sergury on the rock. You might find it intersting." He had used stern tone meaning to leave the cadet alone and let him do job.

Looking back down at Cadet Grebs " I wont you to ignore everthing right now I want you to think of this like surgery okay. Its just you and the rock think of the phasers as your scalpel okay. I'll be right next to you, trust your read outs but even more trust your self. You can do this I wouldn't have asked you if I didn't think you could."

" You have your locations and power setting cooper gave you those. Now do what you need to do make a hole. " Whatching her moves it was like she was treating a patient very careful in verything she did.

Watching the rock come into view " Okay wait for the captains orders okay " <Tag Grebs>

"Captain Mcfarland we are with in weapons range on your order sir " John was still running over the plan in his head, he was hoping it was going to work – it had to work! He reaffirmed to himself.

“Very well, Commander begin boring a hole in the asteroid using the ships phasers. I believe Cadet Cooper has given you the targeting information.”

“Aye Sir” Replied K’ratak, his fellow Commander had been steadfast in his support of John and he appreciated it. As the phasers came online, the viewscreen showed the orange beam of light striking the asteroid. The phaser fire would need to continue for the next 2 minutes, to ensure that they had drilled to the asteroids core.

2 minutes laters “3 hours 17 minutes and 46 seconds until collision.”

John had watched the phaser fire intently, looking over to Cooper every few seconds hoping that they hadn’t struck a mineral deposit if they had they’d have felt it already. He reassured himself, just as the phaser fire had suddenly stopped.

“Drilling phase complete, Sir.”

“Thank you Cadet” John said whilst tapping his comm. Badge,

John turned to the helmsman, “Helm get us to a safe distance.”
The Explore turned quickly on impulse and moved to safe distance from the asteroid. “Cadet Grebs, detonate the antimatter.”

“Aye Sir” The young cadet responded eagerly as she pushed the detonator.

The viewscreen flickered with the blast and the view was obstructed by dust particles created from the explosion. Turning to the Science Officer,
“I want to know how much we destroyed, whats left out there and is any of it heading for Conqueror.”

The young lueitenant frowned as she read the readings,
“Our estimates were a little off – we’ve only destroyed 60% of the asteroid’s total mass and its splintered into 1,080 pieces. Only 208 of them are on course of the station with 17 fragments – large enough to damage the station.”

John wiped his sweat from his brow, “How many can we conceivably catch and stop?”
The officer hesitated,
“Only 9, the rest are travelling too fast. The explosion has catapulted the speed of the fragments.”
The mood on the bridge seemed to drop and everyone’s morale had taken a hitting.

“Open a comm. to Conqueror now!” John ordered
“Comm. open” Came the response.

Cooper was sitting in at the engineering station monitoring power levels when Commander McFarland gave the order to detonate the antimatter. Cooper watched the explosion on the viewscreen the flash was intense and caused cooper to squint in pain.
When the explosion subsided Cooper heard the report from the science station his calculations were off Cooper slammed his fist into the station screaming.
“Dam it”

It turned out there was 8 fragments heading for the station he should have known this plan was too risky people were going to be injured or possibly die and it was Cooper’s fault. Commander McFarland opened a comm. Channel to the station and said with urgency. =^= Commander McFarland to Conqueror, there are 8 fragments heading towards Conqueror – we will not be able to catch and stop them. You will need to ready base defenses and weapons; you should be receiving data on the fragments now! =^=.

Cooper jumped up after thinking of a way to stop some of the fragments he was worried the crew would not trust his opinion after the mess he caused.
Cooper was yelling out his new plan he was not going to let people get hurt because of his mistake. “Commander if we fire 3 quantum torpedoes in front of the fragments in grid 931 and detonate the torpedoes with phasers the mini shockwave should deflect these 4 fragments or at least slow them down but we need to do it now the base’s weapons can’t stop all 8 fragments in time”

Cooper was looking at the bridge crew intensely, Cooper was tired and angry and he was sure demeanor showed that but unusually for Cooper he didn’t care right now.

Cooper had taken the news the hardest regarding the asteroid fragmenting, he slammed his fist in anger. Emotions were running high on the Bridge. McFarland hoped that Conqueror was prepped and targeting the fragments as he thought to himself. Cooper stood up and yelled:

”Commmander if we fire 3 quantum torpedoes in front of the fragments in grid 931 and detonate the torpedoes with phasers the mini shockwave should deflect these 4 fragments or at least slow them down but we need to do it now the base’s weapons can’t stop all 8 fragments in time”

John was shocked at Cooper’s actions, but in the circumstances it was moves like that, that saved lifes.
“Tactical, Do it now Commander K’ratak!”

The viewscreen showed the torpedoes being launched from the Explore and then the phaser banks tearing them apart and causing a shockwave that rocked the Explore. Standing up, John cheered as did the fellow bridge crew. Giving Cooper a standing ovation, John had to make it brief though…

“Now lets get to work on destroying the rogue fragments, Conqueror should be more than capable with dealing with the 4 fragments!”
