“Thank you,” Nika told Commander Matthew, while she looked over the PADD he had given her. Fortunately, Commander Matthew told her that it was likely that everyone had gotten off before the ship exploded. And the Victory hadn't seen any other ships around, which meant whoever it was that had been using the Bajoran transport vessel was long gone. “Good work,” she said. She could investigate the area as to whether anybody knew what had happened to the Sunrise's crew, but that wasn't her top priority right now.
“If you have any further investigation to do, let me know if you find anything,” Nika said. “But if you're done,” she said, nodding at Commanders Matthew and Youngblood, “We've had a few incidents with our Romulan passengers, and I'd like to have some security organized.” As well as Nika needed to come up with a policy for the Romulans now. She'd wanted to consult Nack for that, but when she'd gotten down to sickbay she'd been told, very firmly, that he needed to rest now. She might have pressed the issue, but the nurse on duty started asking her questions about how long it was that she'd been on duty, and Nika didn't want to have to deal with that just now.
But she could come up with a temporary solution, now, since she had a little time. =/\=This is the Captain, to everyone. Due to the nature of our situation, all civilians and off-duty personnel are to stay in their quarters.=/\= There, that would work, for a while. And it would make some hallways a little less crowded. But since the Victory wasn't actually in battle right now, just anticipating one, Nika knew she would end up hearing protests from many usual inhabitants of the Victory.
She dismissed Youngblood and Matthew, and, before she had a chance to resolve any of the other issues she still had waiting for her, she got a hail, as the USS Acadia joined the Victory. “Captain Cir'Kem,” the Captain of the Acadia greeted Nika, as she took the call in her office.
“Captain Parith” Nika nodded at him. “As you can see, we are damaged. So thank you for coming to our aid.”
“Not a problem. Where's the Romulan ship?”
“They cloaked. They're still in the area though, because our sensors are picking up some echoes from the damage we caused.”
“You didn't take out the cloak?” Captain Parith asked, critical.
“I did, but they repaired it before their weapons.”
“Fine. What's the status of the Victory?”
“We're doing what repairs that we can do. Our warp drive is temporarily off-line, but it should be almost repaired by now.” Or so the reports from Engineering kept reassuring Nika.
“Fine, we'll handle the Romulan ship.”
“Their weapons probably won't be fixed for at least another ten minutes,” Nika said. That was what Admiral Rolandin had said, and while he wasn't exactly trustworthy his information was better than complete ignorance.
Captain Parith raised an eyebrow, but he didn't question the other captain on her source of information. The comm channel was closed, and the USS Acadia moved off toward the direction of the Ael'Maec
<Tag Ael'Maec>
Nika knew that Engineering was working as fast as they could on the warp engine, so she didn't bother them asking for another status report. But while she knew what some of the departments had accomplished, they hadn't been giving her as many updates on their status. Maybe a part of that was because they thought they were less likely than Engineering to have to spend all their time explaining why they didn't have the ship repaired yet. So it was probably close to time she talked to them.
=/\=Nika to all departments except Engineering, status report please=/\=

Nack awoke, the cortical immobilizer had been removed since he last fell asleep. For once, it was a good sleep. The last step of the neural-stimulation process was an induced REM sleep. It left Nack relaxed, and ready to go. All he needed was a nurse to remove the cover of the bio bed to let him go.
"Who's in charge here?" The question was embarrassing for the First Officer, the executive officer, and the nurse was a bit taken back by the Ferengi. He was supposed to be in charge of the daily operations of the crew, yet he didn't know who was in charge. Part of it could be blamed on the recent overturn in crew; Ensign Isis being called back to Starfleet so quickly. The majority of it, however, was that Nack never had time to study and memorize the roster since the former CMO's departure. Naturally, the highest ranking officer took charge... if only he could remember who that was.
The nurse had left, not wanting to release Nack, and not answering any of his questions. She had written him off as delusional.
Nack sighed.
=/\= Computer, Medical override alpha-one-delta-four-three-two-two, Commander Nack =/\=
*blip* ~/\~ override complete ~/\~
Nack reached with his short arms around the side of the biobed, touching a few buttons on the console. After a few unsuccessful tries, he let himself out.
He stood up quickly. He had to sit down almost as quickly. Laying down he felt great, but standing was a different story. The Commander spent a few minutes to gain his bearings, and made his way to the door.
In the hallway, he found a group of Romulans, wandering aimlessly. They approached, "Our orders were to go to our quarters and vacate the hallway... but we were placed in the hallway as our temporary quarters by a Marine named ... Wong?"
Ah, yes, Captain Wong's logistical nightmare. Nack was familiar with it, and grew upset, even though he was the one who had approved it. "Just stay out of the way. I'm sure that's why the order was made."
Those particular Romulans meant no harm, and obeyed.
Onward, Nack reached the bridge, finding Captain Cir'Kem. He stepped forward two steps, and back one to catch himself from falling due to dizziness.
"Are you okay?" she asked.
"Just fine," he leaned on the Commander's chair slightly for balance. "What's our status?"

“The warp core's almost up,” she told him. “But the USS Acadia arrived and is pursuing and engaging the Ael'Maec. The debris that Commander Matthew found is from a Bajoran transport from a few months back, but the evidence indicates that the crew—probably involved in smuggling operations—got away safely. In addition to you being attacked, so was Ensign Davis. Oh, and Starfleet tells me we should be getting a new Senior Marine Officer soon. I think that's all.” Nika finished the summary, then turned to see if Nack has gotten all that.
Some of it had happened before Nack had been sent into sickbay by a Romulan, but he'd been in engineering for a while, and less in touch than Nika had been. But he didn't that recovered. “They let you out of sickbay?” she asked, since she had thought that the medics would have erred on the side of keeping Nack in sickbay too long, rather than the other side. They must be really understaffed then.
But Nika didn't actually wait for an answer, on the off chance that it would be no, and Nack let himself out. She didn't want to have to send him back, because she did need him. Truth be told, he had arrived back at just the right time. Nika had a seat in her chair, and gestured next to her that Nack should do the same into his chair. “Frankly, we have a problem, and I was wondering whether you might have a useful perspective on it,” Nika said. “I'm going to try to talk to whoever had been leading the Romulans while they were on the colony, but I'm waiting to hear back from Captain Parith to see how things went with the Romulan warship before I leave the bridge,” Nika explained.
Nika realized that before she did that she would like very much to talk to everyone, or at least everyone that had some free time, at the same time. She had heard that Ensign Davis had just been released, so thought everyone should be able to make it back to the bridge. She tapped her commbadge. “This is Nika to all Senior Officers,” she said. “If you can spare a moment, could you please come up to the bridge as soon as possible.”
Once everyone was assembled, she started to give as brief a recap as possible, just enough to quickly let everyone know what the situation was. “Basically, we have an unknown number of people—Romulans, who are attacking officers, not in an organized manner, but randomly, quite possibly out of fear. And we don't know exactly who is doing the attacking, and I'm not sure it would help that much to know.” Nika rubbed her eyes with her left hand, trying to stop her budding headache. “I can't even effectively confine everyone to quarters, because we don't have the space, and we don't have the personnel to have a decent enough security patrol.” Nika didn't have the answer, that was why she was asking other people their opinions “Any suggestions?”

Bridge of the Ael'Maec
"Commander theres another federation starship entering the sector shall i alert the other ships to enter and decloak and attack both federation starships." Romulan commander replies "no decloak fire at the Acadia."
The Ael'Maec decloaks and open fires on the Acadia. The victory and Acadia open fire on the Ael'Maec.. The Ael'Maec opens fire on the victory and direct hit on the bridge.
bridge of the victory
Part of the ceiling collapses and is about to land on Captain Cir'Kem and rolandin who is the closest to the captain dives and pushes her out of the way and the bulkhead falls on rolandin and he is hurt badly.
Both the victory and the Acadia open fire on the romulan warbird which ends up being destroyed

The Romulans that is aboard the Victory has been giving the crew a hard time. Lt.’s Reed and Malloy have been putting in long hours trying to contain the trouble that they are causing. They have been patrolling the areas of the ship that is very important so none of the Romulans would take control of the ship. The warp core is finally on line the engineering crew has done a remarkable job consider the fact the Romulans were a handful for the crew. Captain Cir’kem has been injured during the attack with the Warbird and had minor injuries.
Commander Nack was in charge until the Captain was able to return. “Commander Nack, May I suggest that we round up all the Romulan refugees and put them in Cargo Bay 2 for everyone’s safety?” “I’ll send Lt’s Reed and Malloy to see to it.’

Rolandin pushed aside Nika, and, as she turned around to ask him why he did that, part of the ceiling fell and hit him. Nika was pretty sure that the ship was supposed to be made of more secure materials than that. Lt. Youngblood called a medical team to take care of the Romulan, and one of the medics insisted on confirming that she hadn't been seriously injured.
Nika looked around at her bridge. It was in a state of disrepair, and she could hardly wait until it could stumble back to Assailant and get repaired. But first she had to deal with the small issue that her people weren't safe. Lieutenant Youngblood was sending all the Romulans to cargo bay 2. It would be a very tight fit for them, which was why Nika needed to do something about the situation.
So, after the medic agreed that Nika didn't actually have to go down to sickbay right now, she acquired a security detail—and how she hated that she needed one—and headed down to Cargo Bay 2. She had been talking to Admiral Rolandin, but he had no more connection to the Romulans than she had to the Federation evacuees.
Many people had already arrived here, and Nika didn't have time to wait for all the Romulans to arrive. She needed to figure out where the Victory should be heading next. Because the warp core may be back up and running, but Nika doubted that Admiral Magellan would appreciate having a bunch of hostile Romulans near his station. She might, maybe be able to get away with it for a while if they were non hostile.
She walked to the center of the room and hoped that somebody would be able to hear her, as she started talking. “Hello all. Welcome to the Victory. I'm sorry for the inconvenience for having had to move you about again, but you may be able to tell that we're having some space difficulties. Now, I'd very much like to talk to whoever is in charge, or was in charge back when you were planetside.”
The Romulans grew silent, and there was whispering until a man stepped forward and started walking towards her. He wasn't wearing any official uniform, but neither were any of the other colonists. “I usually speak for the colony,” he said. “And I think we'd like to know why we're still on this ship.”
“You're on this ship because I believed—and still believe—that the safest thing for you would be to not go back to Romulan territory yet,” Nika explained.
“Why not?”
“Because the CO of the Romulan ship you saw told me he had orders to kill you.”
“Why would they do that?” the Romulan leader asked.
“Because you're witnesses to something. Or you've served your purpose. I don't know.”
“That's right. You don't. I can't see the Romulan Star Empire doing something like this.”
“Regardless of whether you can see them doing it or not, I had strong reason to believe that your lives were in danger and I acted in a way that would protect them,” Nika said. “The real question is what do you want to do now?”
“What do you mean what do we want to do? Aren't you going to haul us back into Federation space?”
“Not if you truly don't want to come, of course not.” Nika had several arguments she could point to as to why leaving wouldn't be the best of ideas. But part of her said maybe Rolandin was wrong, and maybe they would all be fine if they returned to Romulan space. “With that in mind, I have a shuttle that those who want to return can use.” Nika knew they'd have to be careful what shuttle they gave the Romulans.
“You'll need more than one shuttle to get us all back to Romulan space, Captain.”
“Wait,” said another Romulan, a woman, holding a two-year-old's hand. “What're the options, if we choose to stay?”
“Mnheia?” the Romulan who had named himself as leader said, “You can't mean that,”
“Why not, D'nal?” Mnheia asked. “My son was born there. That makes him a Romulan citizen, if the Federation wants to lay claim to him.”
“They wouldn't dare,” D'nal answered.
“Or if he wanted to be a citizen. Right?” Mnheia turned to Nika, who nodded. “And if there's even a chance that what the Captain is saying is true...I don't feel comfortable risking that.” She tugged her son's hand to turn him away from D'Nal. “So, what are our options?” she asked Nika again.
Nika rubbed the back of her neck. “I'm not positive, but I would think you could be resettled, though it would probably end up being on a frontier world. Those of you that that excel in your fields,” which Nika thought would include at least a few, since she couldn't see the Romulan Empire starting a colony in Federation space without a good reason. And a good reason should mean that it was well-planned. “Will probably be able to come to some arrangement with the Federation that will include jobs.” After all, the Federation was always looking for new talent.
Mnheia nodded. “I think I'd like to do one of those.”
Nika smiled reassuringly, then looked around at the rest of the Romulans, many of whom had joined since the beginning of the conversation. “Think about it,” she told D'nal, knowing that word would get around of what she had said without her having to repeat it. “Also, I'd very much like a list of the people who have attacked my officers. You can give the list to any one of the security officers here. As well as let them know whether you'll be taking a shuttle or staying with us.”
Nika exited, and walked back up towards the bridge. She tried to think how she would convince Starfleet to keep the promise she had made. She knew she could do it, because she knew that the Federation couldn't abandon these people, the real question was what the best way to go about doing it would be.
She reentered the bridge and sat down in her chair. “We'll be staying here a little bit longer,” Nika explained to everyone. “While the Romulans figure out what they're doing.” But the Acadia was around, and scans for any cloaked Romulan ships had come up negative, so the Victory was safe.

Nack tried to make sense of the situation through his throbbing skull. Allowing Romulans to choose their destiny, or demise as it may be, was not his idea of a good command decision. These people clearly didn't know what was good for them, and Nack protested in response.
"Captain, permission to speak freely."
Captain Cir'kem tilted her hand slightly, spreading her fingers as she did so, inaudibly signaling to Nack that he could continue. Continue he did.
"I think you are making a big mistake!" Nack realized after he made the first statement rather loudly that he did so, and talked in a lower voice. This wasn't a conversation the rest of the bridge crew needed to be privy to.
"We don't know that these people know what is good for them. We don't even know if their spokesperson has the authority he says he has."
The Captain tried to put aside Nack's indifference. She had considered these points already. Nack was just making sure she had the alternatives. Nack, however, wasn't deferring to the Captain's decision.
"Well, I don't think ..." Nack wasn't prepared for her answer to be set in stone so well, and couldn't think of anything besides reconfirming his original position. " that they are capable. I suppose I'll leave it at that."
He sat down in his Commander's chair in a huff.

Lieutenant Commander Youngblood went to Cargo Bay 2 to see if the security protocols were in place. Yahnie had placed Lieutenant’s Reed and Malloy outside Cargo Bay 2. Yahnie went inside to speak to the Captain. “Captain if I may speak to you privately. Yahnie and the Captain headed out side the cargo bay.”
“Ma’am I do have a suggestion I believe we should head for Starbase Assailant for repairs and escort the Romulans there as well. Once there we would have more security to cover the problems with the trouble the Romulans have been given the crew. We then can figure out what their problem is and help them better.”

Nack explained to Nika why he thought she had made the wrong decision. She listened to him, of course, but he wasn't able to convince her that letting people take control of their own destiny was a bad thing. She, in turn, couldn't convince him that the Romulans had to be able to make their own decisions, or they would only cause trouble for the Federation. Not to mention the fact that the only reason she had to expect that the Romulans would be in trouble was the word of an Admiral that had suggested that she fire on his own ship. And that was something that Nika could never see justifying to herself.
“Well, I don't think that they are capable. I suppose I'll leave it at that.”
“Thank you, Commander,” Nika said, not so much because he had objected, but because he had agreed to leave it at that. She did appreciate that he had brought it up, though, on an intellectual level, because it meant her first officer felt comfortable disagreeing with her. She listened to Lieutenant Commander Youngblood as well, and though she understood what he was saying, she also knew that some of the Romulans felt very hostile toward the Victory crew and wanted to just get home. In their eyes, being forced to stay on the Victory was borderline kidnapping. “I appreciate what you're saying, Commander, and I'll take that into consideration with the Romulans who choose to stay aboard the ship,” Nika replied.
“Lieutenant Sadler to the Captain. Most of the Romulans have decided what they wanted to do. I've done what I could to dissuade those that want to return to Romulan space.”
“Understood,” Nika replied. “How many are there?”
“52.”
Nika nodded, that was less than she would have expected. Apparently Lieutenant Sadler had been especially persuasive. “Alright. Set things up so they can be transported.” She added to the Communications Officer: “Get me Captain Parith.”
Parith appeared on the main screen. “Captain, what can I do for you now?”
“Are you willing to take a visit to the border between Federation and Romulan space?” Nika asked.
“Yes.”
“There are some Romulans we've picked up that would like to be dropped off near their own space. However, I have reason to believe that they will be in some danger returning.”
“Then why let them return?” Captain Parith asked, echoing Nack's earlier sentiment.
“Because I don't have the right to make these people live their lives the way I want them to! However, I'd appreciate you trying to get some kind of reassurance from the Romulan government that they'll be allowed to live safely. It's really not in the Empire's best interest to kill them now.”
“I'll do my best by these people,” Captain Parith replied. “You can start beaming them over when you're ready.” The communication ended, and Nika let Lieutenant Malloy know to start the transportation.
Then there was a beeping from the Tactical console. “Looks like something just went to Warp it had to be cloak all this time it never showed up on any of the ship Sensors Captain? It does look like there is a trail to follow. Shall we follow Captain? Or should we head to the Starbase for repairs?”
“Notify the Acadia,” Nika said. “Where is the warp trail headed?” Nika asked.
There was a slight pause. “Romulan space.”
“Right. Transfer our sensor data to the Acadia, they should be able to handle this. And there's no way our ship is in good enough shape to engage in a chase.”
“The Acadia is heading off now, in pursuit.”
“Understood,” said Nika. “Head us back to Assailant. Warp seven.”
