~Romulan Prison Camp at NGC-6124, near future~
Nick sat curled up on the hard metal bench in his small cell. The dingy eight by eight room had become home to the now former engineer of the Vesuvius. Its dull brown walls were scratched with various notes from previous occupants and from himself. Days and weeks had turned into a blur which he had lost track of months ago. He brushed a hand through his rough beard, let out a longing sigh and gazed out the window.
Outside the window, or what you could call a window, lay a vast and desolate planet. In the distance you could see a mountain range speckled with fire from volcanic eruptions. At their feet lay the ruins and burned out hulls of a various starships, which were captured or destroyed in orbit by the Romulans. In amongst the ruins lay the distinct shape of a federation star drive section. In between the scars and holes he could still make out the words USS Vesuvius-A.
Down the hall he could hear the hum of a food cart. He got up and leaned as close to the energy barrier as he could stand. Down the way he could see the pudgy Romulan cook dole out food and slide it through the food access port of each cell. Moments later he arrived at Nicks cell. As the cart stopped the chef began serving up a plate of what could be approximated to gruel.
“How’re you doing today Mr. Martens?” The cook asked.
“None to bad could use a penthouse suit one of these days,” he joked, “How’re the kids doing Karr?”
“Kirri is getting married in a week and J’ral is almost ready for the academy.”
“They sure grow up fast don’t they,” Nick said wondering what had become of his little one. He looked up to see the cook moving along, “Well I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Sure thing Nick,” the cook said and made his way down. Nick strained to hear what he said to the next prisoner as he served up. The “new guy” as some would call him was moved into this rather empty cellblock a few days earlier but he had yet to hear a name. He could see the two other occupants leaning to hear as well. Softly they heard,
“G’day Mr. Reckus. I see you’re doing much better today. Welcome to the block. Here’s some food for ya.”
Jatan! Nick was ecstatic. There had been more survivors than he first thought. ~You here buddy? ~ He thought over to Jatan as the cook made his way out of the block. ~Nick? ~ Came the confused and weak response. ~You better believe it~ he replied. ~We thought you were dead with the rest~ ~Well I’m here aren’t I. How many survived? ~ Nick asked. ~15 officers, and 6 children~ came the reply.
Nick sat back at the news. There had been more than just him and Sarah O’Malley. ~Get some rest, we’ve got a lot to plan friend~ he thought. This news set aflame a spark inside the young engineer.
The next day brought new hope to the prisoners. The news of more survivors was a welcome albeit a solemn one. Sarah rose from her cot and moved to her force field. Across the way she could see into Nicks and Jatans respective cells. “Hey you two, not going to stay dead to the world now are you? We’ve got too much to do,” She toyed at them. Nick sat up and smiled, yet there wasn’t much movement from Jatan. Slowly Jatan moved to the field to say hi. His face was bruised by constant interrogations and he tended to favor his left leg. “With all do respect commander but you look like hell, sir,” Sarah said.
A faint smile spread about Jatans face, “I know, they were trying to find out as much as possible about Sonak and her whereabouts. But we all know she went down with the ship. Now we’re here and there’s nothing we can do about it. I suggest you two just face it, we’re never getting of this rock.”
“Don’t be so sure,” Nick said. “Look in your food.”
Jatan looked down at his food and noticed a romulan pad sticking out. On it was a detailed map of the installation and records taken when the station Commander ordered a team to investigate the ship. It showed them the location of an operational shuttle. He looked up at Sarah who held up a similar pad. “Chef?” he asked intently.
“You better believe it,” Nick said.
“What are we waiting for?” Jatan asked intently.
Later that day…
Nick limped Jatan through the doors of the base shuttle bay. Close behind them followed the other survivors of the crash each helping one another along. Claire and Lena carried two children each in their arms. Ramsden looked as if he’d been on a hunger strike for the last month, his facial features seemed more pronounced than normal.
They all piled into the only recovered shuttle and prepared for dust off. Nick swiveled his chair around to survey the survivors. Try as he may he couldn’t see L’Ola in the group. He looked down at the list of names in his hand. Lt. Sarah O’Malley Lt. Cmdr. Nick Martens Lt. Cmdr. Sam Ramsden Lt. Cmdr. Claire Steenbergen Lena Cmdr. Jatan Reckus (Child) Seliv Jr. (Child) Sevus (Child) T’kimi (Child) Shanna Marie Dobson (Child) Trent Dobson (Child) Shiloh Dobson Lt. Bryce Johnson Ensign Jason Gray Cmdr. Mark Harper And 5 guest civilians
As the shuttle left the base they all glanced out the window at the charred ruins of their ship. Some just sat there in shock at the devastation below them while others dared not look out. It was going to be a long journey home.
~Earth, North-Western Canada~
The Admiral sat in front of his offices picture window reading an old earth novel. Just outside lay a vast valley of trees with a large lake set in its basin. Dispersed amongst the trees, along the lake, lay buildings of various sizes and shapes, each with a purpose the Admiral could care less about. A hand subconsciously traced an old scar running down his cheek and under his beard. He glanced up as a shuttle floated by then returned his gaze to the book in his hands.
“The ruling thought gave him no rest. Evidently he had gone deeply into the matter, analytically and with profound scrutiny. He had brought all the resources of his mind to bear upon it during his walk, and he had come back to apply some new combination.
He sat in his armchair, and pen in hand he began what looked very much like algebraic formula: I followed with my eyes his trembling hands; I took count of every movement. Might not some unhoped-for result come of it? I trembled, too, very unnecessarily, since the true key was in my hands, and no other would open the secret. “
He paused and chuckled at the quote, ~if only Mr. Verne knew what we do these days~. The monitor on the desk behind him began to emit a beep. Intent on ignoring it he slouched into his chair and continued reading. Only the beep seemed to get louder, so with an exasperated sigh he hit a button to take the call.
“Yes Lisa?” he asked.
“Sir, your daughter is here.”
“Thank you Lisa, send her in.”
Seconds later the doors to his office parted to reveal his daughter. The ridges on her forehead accented by her blue eyes and long blond hair. It was also evident she was with child, ~something she hasn’t told me yet~ he thought to himself. He smiled and gave her a warm embrace.
“Congratulations on the promotion. Commander now eh,” he said leaning against his large mahogany desk remembering the ‘good old days’ of when she would run around the ship fancy free. Now she was the First Officer of a ship and had a child on the way. He caught her eyes and noticed a twinge of urgency. “That’s not why you’re here is it,” he said motioning to her stomach and her new rank.
“No, it’s not.”
“I talked to the Captain today. He said we should be ready to get underway in 3 days,” she said looking out the window at the valley below.
“She’s ready? It’s going to work?” He said excitedly, “Excellent. I’ll make preparations for some equipment to be brought aboard.”
“This isn’t going to be another one of your hunts again, is it? We haven’t been able to find anything the last three times and the Captain isn’t too keen on going on yet another red herring trek. You and the other few were lucky dad, they’re not coming back,” she said putting her hand on his shoulder. “It’s been thirty years. I think it’s time to let go and move on.”
“This time it will work, I swear. This isn’t going to be like anything we’ve done before. Trust me. Just let him know,” he said placing a hand on his daughters face.
“Alright but this is the last time he’s going to let you take the Vesuvius from him.”
“Thank you my dear, and say hi to Trent for me. Send my congrats to him on becoming a dad.”
“I will, thank you dad,” she said and gave him a great hug, “I’ll see you in three days.” With that she turn with a wave and left his office.

He leaned turned and activated his monitor. He hit in a couple keystrokes and was greeted by a receptionist. She smiled, “How may I help you sir?”
“Patch me through to Kahlan Hope please.”
The secretary nodded and seconds later he was patched through to a stunning young Romulan woman. She smiled at seeing him.
“Good to see you again Admiral.”
“How are preparations going?” He asked.
“Ahead of schedule, sir. Why?”
“I’m going to need the equipment in two days. You up for the task?”
“You bet. I’ll have O’Malley load it up in the morning.”
“Thank you T’Pal.”
“Good luck sir. I’ll see you at the loading dock,” She said and signed off.
The Admiral sighed and sat back down in his chair, ~where was I? ~ He thought ~ah here we go~ and continued reading his book. On the binding it read, “Journey to the Center of the Earth”.
~3 days later Starbase Bellicose~
After a long journey the Admiral stepped out his shuttle and into the hustle and bustle of crew preparing for launch. Cargo containers were stacked all over waiting to be loaded into the ships hold. He looked up at the massive starship, which hung in space above him and was struck by the design. ~Much much bigger but not much different than the old one~ he thought, a smile creeping across his face. On the ships bow the registry read USS VESUVIUS NCC-750024-C.
Off behind him there came the sound of commotion and someone yelling. Quite quickly it became apparent the ruckus was directed at him. He turned to face the noise and there he saw an older gentleman pushing his way through the crowd, every so often smacking someone in his way with his cane. The Admiral recognized the man and began walking towards the ruckus maker.
“I heard you were going to try another attempt,” the other man said as he neared, “You’re a damned old fool.”
“Then why would you be here Jate? You want to see this work as much as I do. You want her back as much as I do, besides you couldn’t resist could you,” he chuckled and gave his old friend a hug.
“It’s good to see you again old friend,” Jatan said, “Lets go meet the new Captain.”
“Sound good to me, I think you’ll be surprised as to who got the command.”
~USS Vesuvius-C~
Moments later the two exited the turbo lift and stepped onto the bridge. All around them crewmembers busied themselves with preparing their respective stations for the departure. At the front near the 20-foot view screen sat two stations, one helm and one opps. To their left science consoles lined the wall and to the right the engineering and astrometrics stations stood. At the rear lay the tactical and auxiliary stations. Finally direct center stood the Captain flanked by his XO and an empty chair. His eye caught the entrance of the two newcomers and he turned to greet them.
“Jatan you may remember Seliv,” The Admiral said with a wide grin.
Jatan stood there speechless, his hand slightly shaking as he extended it to the Vulcan Captain, “Of course, I raised him, how could I forget. I did raise him to tell me of important events like this though.”
“Indeed you did,” Seliv said with a slight bow, “I was however under orders not to tell you until now.”
“Whose orders?” Jatan asked, Seliv glanced at the Admiral who stood there with a grin. Jatan looked at him with shock.
“You sneaky little, let me guess, I’m going to be bumping into people I know all over the ship aren’t I.”
“Indeed,” Seliv said, “let me introduce you to my First Officer, Yannis Martens. Her husband is also our Security Chief.”
Yannis left her chair and joined the three. She shook the former medical officers hand then turned to give her father a hug. “We’ve been waiting for you two. Obviously time has slowed you gentlemen down,” she teased at them.
“Not the case my dear, time has only taught us lessons which you have yet to learn. Thus we live more carefully,” Jatan countered.
“Say I need to go down to the Cargo bay to check up on something,” Nick said,” I’ll catch up with you all soon.” With that he re-entered the turbo lift and headed down to Cargo Bay 1.
~USS Vesuvius-A~
Commodore Sonak sat wearily in her quarters, pads strewn on the table and ground in front of her. She rubbed her neck and closed her eyes in an attempt to re-focus her mind. The preparations for this particular mission were quite tedious. The information they’d gleaned from Kate Martens was invaluable. The information she provided on the Romulans plot and their alliance with this council was too great to ignore.
~Progression…. progression of what? ~ She mulled over in her mind.
Her eyes were drawn to the latest intelligence report from Starfleet command. On it lay the details of a new prototype warbird under development by the Romulans. Similar but unlike the Valdore class currently in service this one possessed a superior warp drive system, one which is possible of obtaining speeds above the warp 10 barrier.
=/\= Bridge to Commodore Sonak =/\=
“Yes?” She said setting the pad on her lap.
=/\= Incoming Priority One Communication from Starfleet ma’am =/\=
“Thank you. I’ll take it down here.”
She got up walked over to her desk and activated her monitor. The Starfleet command emblem came up on screen for a second then was replaced by the face of Admiral Rayner.
“Good evening Commodore. I pray all finds you well.” “Indeed, however I know that this is not a social call.” She said getting to point.
“How right you are,” The balding admiral chuckled. “I’m calling to cement your orders for the mission.” “Hunt the Romulan prototype?” Sonak queried having just read the information.
“As much as we’d like to it would breach current treaties to capture her. Your mission is to gather as much information about the ship as possible and capture this man,” A face popped up on the screen in the place of the admirals. His facial features decidedly Romulan yet they were slightly gaunt and bony. “This is Professor J’Rall, head scientist in charge of warp theory research on Romulus. Intelligence puts him in the NGC-6142 sector where the Romulans have a shipyard.”
“Working on the Prototype no doubt.” Sonak added. “Indeed. We’ll talk later once you’ve retrieved the Professor. Stealth is of the essence, which is why you’ve been selected for this mission. The Vesuvius’s cloak will work perfectly in this situation as it’s based off of my original design.”
“Is there anything else sir?” She asked.
“Not until we have the Professor. Until then, Godspeed Sonak.”
The screen went blank and retreated back into the desk from whence it came. The Commodore made her way back to the couch to ponder the new orders. Sooner or later she’d have to call a staff meeting and brief them of the news.

"Sonak to all senior staff, report to briefing room one in 10 minutes," Sonak called, after letting the message she had just received sink in for a few minutes.
~~10min later~~
the room was crowded with senior staff, and Sonak motioned them to sit down. "Please sit, we have no time to waste. The Romulans are building a ship that is a danger to he Federation," she started, "since we have a cloaking device, Starfleet Command has ordered us to hunt the ship down. I have not been told yet if we need to destroy or capture it, but I am sure they will tell us when that time arrives. I need status reports."
She turned to Nick Martens. "Is the warpdrive up to it? MVAM and cloak in proper working order? I need maximum efficiency on the engines, MVAM and cloak, more if possible."
<martens>
She next addressed Samuel Ramsden. "Until we find the rogue Romulan prototype, I want you to drill the crew in battle scenarios. No exceptions, everyone is to participate and perform amiably. Train your staff for combat, we may need it."
<ramsden>
Turning to Claire, "Ms Steenbergen, I need crew evaluations. Are they up to this task mentally? I need you to find weaknesses and help the crew overcome possible fears. We need to be ruthless, aggresive and assertive."
<steenbergen>
"Jatan, have sickbay ready at all times. Train your staff in dealing with heavy casualties, teach them to act instantly, and not hesitate at seeing friends being hurt or dead."
<reckus>
Mr McGrath, shields need to be evaluated and possibly upgraded. work with engineering and report back to me. We do not wish to be caught off-guard. Work on a back-up plan should shields fail."
<McGrath>
Finally, she turned to L'Ola. "I want you to find any information on cloaking techniques and Romulan prototypes ahving been build over the course of the last 24 months. Anything may be of value....even if the information seems unimportant, I will wish to know about it."
<Kanz>
Beside her, Fox sat in silence. "Opinions Mr Fox?" Sonak asked.
<Fox>
"All right, I will need ideas and suggestions on how to go about this."
<Everyone>

"Engines are always ready. I'll also have the cloak ready along with the MVAM when we need it. Right now they're undergoing a routine diagnostic." Nick said in reply to the Commodore.
He sat back into his chair as the briefing continued. Slowly the voices faded into background noise as he lost himself to strange thoughts like ~I wonder what biometric gel tastes like~ or ~If a photonic flea sneezes does anyone hear it?~.
He suddenly became aware of a voice speaking directly at him. Quickly he looked up to see L'Ola standing next to him, the briefing now over. Her arms were crossed and her arms folded in front of her. He smiled up sheepishly as she'd been standing there for evidently quite some time.
"Hey," he said softly.
"I was thinking, since this mission is going to keep us busy on opposite sides of the ship I was thinking we'd get some holodeck time in. You never know when we'll have a free moment in the next couple weeks," She said.
"Sounds good to me. Lets say tomorrow evening, holodeck two. Dinners on me," he said standing up. He leaned forward and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
~Unknown dimension or space~
“The progression must commence soon. We must strike before it is too late. The humans are already suspicious of us,” One of the council members, a tall lanky fellow, said. “The Vesuvius was not been defeated as planned. However the one named Seliv has been terminated. The timeline looks more favorable every passing day,” he continued his dark blue robes swirled around his feet as he paced the chamber.
"My forces will do whatever we need to to acomplise our task," A slim built Romulan said from his seat at the council table. Behind him stood two guards each nodded at the comment made by their commander.
"Be sure you do not fail. The Human crew has been more resiliant than we anticipated," A second council member said. Her voice was soft and smooth as she spoke, "Your empires survival depends on you. Do what you must do then report back to us."
"As you wish," The commander said standing from his table. He gave a slight bow, turned and motioned to his officers to follow. They took up flanking positions and followed him out of the chamber.
~USS Vesuvius-C~
Admiral Martens walked into Cargo Bay 1 with an air of confidence. He was not however prepared for the level of preparedness of the equipment. Officers dressed in black tunics moved to and fro setting up some sort of platform in the center of the room. A slender Romulan woman walked towards him with a smile on her face. She extended a hand and greeted the Admiral.
"Welcome aboard sir," Kahlan said.
"Your crew sure is on top of things," Nick said in awe of the room around him.
"We actually had everything here yesterday, thus the level of preparedness. We've got another few days of calibration but we'll be ready."
"Good good. Commander T'Shan hasn't been too difficult with power allocation has she?"
"No not at all actually why?" Kahlan asked.
"Don't worry about it, I knew her mother thats all," he said with a sly smile. "Keep my up to date," he said as he recognised one of the crew members who walked by him. He quickly moved to follow keeping stride with the woman. Soon she stopped and began taking a reading from one of the monitors. He stepped behind her.
"So Jatan isn't the only one who couldn't resist tagging along," he teased. She turned around startled, upon seeing who it was she gave a little screech and gave the admiral a hug.
" I didn't expect to see you here." She said.
"Sarah you should know by now that I'm the one getting funding for this crazyness," he chuckled. Just as she opened her mouth to speak his badge beeped at him. He slightly frowned and tapped it.
"Martens here."
</\> Sir we're ready to get underway. Request your presence on the command deck </\> the voice of his daughter sounded smooth over the comm.
"Alright, I'll be right up." With that the comm ended. He looked at Sarah and shrugged, "I'll catch up with you later."

Sonak nodded in confirmation. "Let me know when you are done with the diagnostic so that we can test our capabilities, before setting course for the Neutral Zone. We will need it as we will be crossing over into Romulan space. However, I have friends in the empire, and I am quite sure that they shall assist us wherever they can. One of my friends is closely related to the Empress."
She gazed each and every senior staff member in the eyes for a moment. "Any other questions and or suggestions?"
<tags?>
~~after meeting~~
Jatan approached Sonak, smiling as she was just about to leave the conference room. "So we will finally get some action?" he asked.
Sonak frowned. "Do you not think you have had enough action to last a lifetime?" she asked, recalling his adventure in the alternate universe, and his hard work to save this crew from a vampire virus that had infected herself, Claire Steenbergen and Caldwell. He'd had quite a job at curing her, especially after the CMO from the Tiger Shark had taken it upon himself to drive a stake through her.
Jatan nodded. "I mean battle action," he offered, "the crew has been anxious to go for some sight-seeing around space, and where better than in the neutral zone?"
Now she knew he was joking and she offered him a small smile. "Quite right," she replied, then hooked her arm through his, "but now, I have a family to take care of, and I would like you to assist me. T'Kimi and Sevus dote on you and I am sure they will be delighted if 'Uncle Jatan' would prepare them lunch and get them to the daycare centre. Nanny will take care of Shanna and Seliv after I have fed them, and then we can have some time for ourselves. Well, until some officer comes with reports for me to look after.
The two officer walked off, laughing merrily, neither of them knowing the doom that lay ahead.

"I want you to find any information on cloaking techniques and Romulan prototypes ahving been build over the course of the last 24 months. Anything may be of value....even if the information seems unimportant, I will wish to know about it." "I'm sure I'll find out somehow for you." She started thinking through a list of people to contact, a list of databases she'd need to ask permission to look through, a list of databases she'd need to accidentally get access to... She realised that she should really be listening to Sonak, so she made a mental note to continue thinking later. "All right, I will need ideas and suggestions on how to go about this." L'Ola thought about it for a moment, "I'd suggest that we don't go looking for trouble straight away. Maybe keep to areas where cloaking is not essential until we have more of an idea where we're going, unless we run out of information or anything." She listened to everyone's replies, and noticed that Nick hadn't said anything. She looked over *Completely in a world of his own* she thought. At the end of the briefing he didn't seem to realise everyone was moving, but she walked over to talk to him anyway. "Hi" No response. "Nick?" Still nothing. L'Ola sighed, and tapped him on the shoulder, before folding her arms again. "Are you even awake?" It seemed to do the trick. He looked up, slightly surprised to see someone there. She suggested that they spent some time on the holodeck together. He agreed that it was a good idea. Nick stood up and kissed her on the cheek. "Well I'd better go start on some research." L'Ola said. He looked confused, "Research?" "Ask the computer what happened at the meeting," she replied, smiling. She leant forward, kissed him, and then walked out the room.

"Well, I think most of the crew are mentally up to it, if it is really necessary I'll call everyone in for a last 'check up'. As for doctor Reckus," Claire said while looking understandingly into commander Sonak's eyes, "he has been doing very well during the sessions of the last few weeks. I think it maded him even stronger and more capable to handle such situations again," she finished and winked at the doctor.
Then Sonak turned towards Jatanand the rest of the officers. Just when the briefing was over, Claire got called by Lena.
=/\= Claire, please come to holodeck 3, asap, I got something to show you! =/\=
"I'm on my way, dear," she replied surprised.
What was she up to now? Claire wondered; she loved her active lover. That woman really needed a job on the Vesuvius, Claire thought smiling and had to hold herself from running to the holodeck. Yet the last few metres she couldn't help but make a little jump in excitement. Then she entered.
She couldn't believe her eyes: the Scottisch highlands displayed themselves in all their glory all around her. Then she saw something moving towards her, quite fast. It was Lena... on a horse!
"Dear, couldn't you have put on a dress?" Lena panted. Claire kept staring at her in awe and amazement. "I didn't know you could... a dress? You said you needed me asap?" the counselor replied.
"Never mind. Computer..." and she dismounted from her black mare, "dress Claire Steenbergen in my dress model number 17."
"Er..." Claire was really flabbergasted know, what adventures brings this woman to her...
"I was supposed to finish it and give it to you, but I couldn't find the right silk, I kept the prototype saved in the computer though. What do you think?"
"It's, it's beautiful..." Claire whispered. She had to swallow her tears back. The dark blue silk carressed her skin and seemed to be perfumed too. She loved it, though she knew its perfectness was virtual.
"Now, my princess, allow me to ride you to the most perfect place on Earth," Lena invited Claire. "Well, yes, my queen," she played along.
Then the two rode off, Claire in her blue dress in front of Lena, with her leather boots and riding outfit, their hair waving in the wind...
OOC: More is coming up...

~ during meeting ~ After hearing everyones reports Sonak finally got to Fox asking if he wanted to add something to everything that had been discussed. He answered he had nothing to add. Then Sonak asked if anyone had any ideas or suggestions. And so the meeting went on.
~ after the meeting ~ When the briefing was finished everyone went his/her own way. Preparing for the mission or taking some leisure time now they still could, because there could be little when they were on their way.
As for Fox... He went back to the bridge retaking Command of the Vesuvius in Sonaks absence.

The twins were paddling in the ship's swimmingpool with their instructor, Juan, while Sonak tried to coax Jatan into the water. The CMO had until now been resisting the urge to just jump in. His concern for his commanding officer, his lover, was apparent. She was still looking somewhat pale, and she kept touching her canine teeth gingerly with her tongue every now and then.
They stood on the edge of the pool, and Sonak dove in gracefully, resurfacing a few meters from the edge, motioning for him to jump in. Teeth shattering, she told him the water was quite nice, for human standards. Finally, the matter was taken out of his hans when the twins decided to give him a hand. The two had snuck up on him and gave him a firm shove. Flailing, he splashed into the water.
Sonak laughed. "Finally," she said, as the twins splashed in behind him. She paddled up to him, but just before she could hug him, her combadge went off.
"Bridge to Sonak," she heard Commander Fox' voice.
Shrugging, Sonak paddled up to the edge, clambered out of the pool and touched her combadge. "Sonak here go ahead commander."
"We are nearing the Romulan Neutral zone," Fox reported.
"Very well, give me 10minutes and I will join you on the bridge. Drop to impulse and engage cloak." She looked down at Jatan apollogetically, as she had really looked forward to some time spent alone with him. "I am sorry, duty calls," she said.
Jatan nodded, and hoisted himself out of the water. "I will join you," he said, smiling.
10 Minutes later, the two of them entered the bridge, their hair still moist from their swimming. "Report," she said, as she sat down in the command chair.

<Back a bit>
L'Ola looked through all the sensor readings she'd been sent, all the reports she'd got, and all the other information she could get her hands on. It was no good. She simply did not know enough about cloaking technology to get it done.
"Computer, begin a new report. Subject: Science department Cloak Findings.
"Researching the area of Romulan cloaks and ships I have been able to obtain a great deal of reports and sensor logs from many ships. I have discovered quite a few anomalous readings, all of which are highlighted in the following files..."
Here she listed the locations of these reports.
"As you can see, something has definitely been happening in the area marked out on the map. However, I am not really sure what exactly. I have very little experience working with cloaking technology, or any kind of Romulan technology. I have concluded that this research would be more useful in the hands of someone with this field of expertise."
She paused for a moment to work out what to say next.
"I am therefore passing over responsibility for the use of this information to the Chief Engineer. Computer, end recording and play back report."
L'Ola listened to what she had said. General waffle for, "I can't do this, so you have a go."
"Computer, send the report to Lieutenant Commander Martens."
"Report sent."
*Right, that's the work out the way then.*
She got up from her desk in one of the labs, and headed off to her quarters, where she got changed and walked off again, this time to the holodeck.
She made a call on the way. "Kanz to Martens, I know some lazy idiot just sent you all their work to do, but any chance you're free for that holodeck time?"

"Beautiful, isn't it?" Lena more confirmed than asked it. The two women had arrived at a well, hid behind rocks and greenery. It splashed from rock to rock with little waterfalls. Birds and deer came here to drink, as the two had seen when they had been watching the spot before taking a closer look.
The horse was chewing some grass behind them, it snorted in contentment.
The women listened in silence to the rippling well and the songs of the birds. Then Claire looked into Lena's eyes and discovered the most beautiful thing in the world... Love
Claire pulled her closer and caressed her cheeck. Finally she bowed her head to kiss her. When they got loose from the eternal tenderness of the kiss, Lena looked up and whispered:
"Will you marry me?"
Tears started to run over Claire's face: "Of course I will," she whispered back, and sealed her promise with another kiss.

Ramsden was beginning to settle into the Vesuvius' routine, and thought that he would enjoy a long-term relationship with the ship and her crew. The Vesuvius was cloaked and running on impulse engines, sneaking over the Romulan Neutral Zone, and into Romulan held solar systems. Commodore Sonak and Doctor Reckus had just entered the bridge, and Commander Fox was standing to brief them, offering Sonak the command chair he had just been sitting in. A small blue button started winking at Ramsden on the tactical console. The holograph lightly tapped it, and watched with growing interest at the data filling his report window. He motioned for attention, making Fox glare at him for a second over the interruption. "Commodore, you may like to look past Commander Fox and at the viewscreen... the view is quite something." Everyone looked towards the screen, some gasping, most staring wide eyed. A D'deridex class warbird was cruising sedately in parallel with the Vesuvius, oblivious to the cloaked Federation starship's presence. The green hulled warbird was gargantuan compared to the Nova class Vesuvius, and the two ships were close enough that green filled the viewer. Ramsden and the other officers watched as Romulan crewmen walked past windows, performing their duties, saluting their superiors, eating meals in the mess. Eventually, due to the disparity in velocities, the Vesuvius cleared the warbird, and pulled slowly away towards the planet ahead. Ramsden grinned at his commanding officer. "Now that was something, I've never seen one that close befo..." He was cut off by a shrill ringing from the computer; the grin turned to a frown in a second. "Report." "Well Commodore... it seems the cloak is failing... oh wibble." The Vesuvius shimmered into sight, catching the crew of the nearby Romulan warbird offguard - but not for long. The massive disruptor banks glowed to life, and a stream of destructive energy poured into the Vesuvius' shields.

"Battlestations!" Sonak cried, as she was thrown off her feet, "prepare for MVAM! Remember we are here with permission, do not destroy them! Cripple only!"
She struggled back to her feet and climbed in her chair as she felt the ship shudder as it went into multi vector assault mode. Clearly, the commander of the attacking Romulan vessel was not aware of their alliance with the Empress. "Hail that vessel!" she shouted over the noise on the bridge. An elder Romulan male appeared on the screen, looking quite angry, but before he could speak, Sonak held up her hand to silence him. "We are here with permission of your Empress, cease fire or she will hear of this breach of alliance."
<anyone wishing to do this romulan? sorry cant think of anything more to write....minds a blank:S>

"You will have to forgive me Vulcan. I was not on duty, and my executive officer was caught, shall we say, off guard."
The Romulan officer sneered back at Sonak, his lip curling with obvious distaste.
"Just be thankful we didn't concentrate on your demise, as your pitiful vessel could well have already been annihilated."
The screen went blank for a second, before switching to a view of the D'deridex powering down. Damage reports started to come up on several consoles, meaning that the mission would be somewhat delayed. Sonak grabbed for her communicator pin, as she marched into her ready room.
"Martens, Ramsden, I want to see you both in here now.

Nick walked into the ready room tense. Every muscle cringed in preparation to take the barage from the Commodore. He'd allowed the cloak to fail in a potentially dangerous situation. It did not bode well with him. "What happened!?" Sonak demanded even before the doors finished closing. "We were destabilized due to close proximity to a spacial anomaly. Probably the Warbirds warp core." "Could it have been prevented?" "Yes ma'am. I'll have a team fix the problem." "Very good Commander. Dismissed." (If you wanna add more feel free ) Nick walked out of the briefing room and headed to his consol. There he alocated the various crew to the tasks and repairs at hand. "Sarah," he said into the screens comm, "You'll be in charge of repair detail. Oh and get a team on that cloak problem." "Sure thing. What are you going to be doing?" "I've got a date then some research." ~evidently this event will be added to the list of stuff that cloaks don't like~ "Very well. I'll see you later. O'Malley out." With that he tucked in his chair and headed into the turbo lift. ~~~~~ L'Ola sat on a checked blanket overlooking a vast countryside of green. Next to her sat a basket of food that the computer had thought appropriate. She stared out at the rolling clouds and let out a sigh. Off in the distance she noticed a figure moving towards her. In his hands was a smallish box with silver lace adorning it. He knelt beside L'Ola and opened the box to her. Inside it lay a gold necklace with an diamond adorned gold amulet. He removed it from it's box and placed it around her neck along with a kiss. "Take this where you will. In your travels, in your dreams, in your heart, I will always be there fo you."

Sonak sat in her office for a while after both Samuel and Nick had left. She felt completely drained; their mission went astray in their first attempts and now there was a D'deridex warbird off their bow. She knew her ship was no match for it, the warbird outzised them numerous times. Even in MVAM, they were no match for the Romulan vessel.
She rubbed her temples as she felt a headache come up. She'd had very little sleep over the past days, due to running double shifts and caring for her children. She looked up as she felt two strong hands massage her shoulders and was relieved to find Jatan standing behind her. She gave him a weak smile as he bent over to kiss her. She was still feeling very guilty for not telling him about her infection, even though he understood that she had wanted to but that something had withheld her from doing so. She knew it had hurt his feelings, but afterwards it had brought them closer together even more.
Sonak knew, that she was going to spend the rest of her life with this man, but she was not yet ready to ask him to bond with her. Seliv had wanted her to remarry, and she knew that Jatan would say yes if she asked, but it was too soon. The wounds, though almost a year old, were still too fresh. Yet, if he would ask her, she also knew she would be unable to say no. She rose from her chair and walked into his embrace, sobbing silently as her emotions got the better of her.
~~later~~
"Message from the Romulan Empress ma'am," McGrath announced from OPS, "she has ordered the Warbird off our bow to escord us into Romulan space, and protect us at all cost."
Sonak sighed with relief. "Get me their commander," she said, and turned to the big screen where the annoyed face of the Romulan she had spoken to earlier appeared, "Commander, we are very grateful for your escort. My ship is no match for a D'deridex, even with our advanced technology. We will of course, share any of our discoveries on our mission with you, to assure you that we are not attempting to compromise the security of the Empire. Your Empress is an acquaintance of mine, and I would be very sorry to see her get hurt. We will do our utmost best to keep that from happening, you have my word on that." And the word of a Vulcan was never questioned, she knew, for Vulcans still had the reputation of being unable to speak lies.

She was glad that the Romulan commander did not call upon her to prove her claims, even though they were true. Through her brother Ricky van Breughel, she had come into contact with the Empress via one of her ambassadors. Ricky was the human ambassador to the Romulan Empire, and thus had many friends in the empire, and also many enemies. His son, of the same age as her eldest twins, was a Romulan orphan he and his wife had adopted. Kyala van Breughel, Ricky's wife had to abandon attempts at getting pregnant after nearly dying when she got a miscarriage. The two had been inconsolable, but then the orphan had been found, and the two had taken the boy, Toman, in and raised him as their own son.
She sighed and gazed at the bridge chronometer, then saw she was long overdue on getting off-duty. "Mr Harper, you have the bridge," she called, seeing that Fox had long since gone off duty. Due to the late hour on the ship, she knew her children would be in bed already.
Not feeling very hungry, she skipped dinner, took a shower and stepped into bed. Sadly, Jatan had chosen to spend the night in his own quarters, but lately, their shifts were not ending synchronously enough to spend much time together. She sighed and wrapped herself in the blanket, feeling somewhat ill at ease in the semi-darkness of her bedchamber.
Some time later, she started tossing and turning, moaning softly as she started dreaming. The images of her mind were as vivid as if they were real. She saw the darkly clad figure come at her, his hypnotic voice calling her. She kept seeing his blood-shot eyes, felt his call. She woke up screaming, still hearing his call. "This is not happening," she murmured, "I am cured, this is not happening." But it was, he was calling, but she knew he no longer had a hold on her.
Finally, she fell asleep again, occasionally moaning softly as the nightmare returned on and off.

J'Rall sat in his office gazing over the many screens of data. Each one showed a different simulation results from the battery of tests they'd been running the new system through. ~so far so good~ he thought to himself. He glanced over to the guard at the door and contorted his mouth in frustration, ~you had to become the best in warp theory didn't you J'Rall~ his inner dialog teased. Once again he glanced back at the guard this time he spoke.
"Get the Commander. I have some developments to show him."
"Very well professor," the guard said then walked throught the door.

The darkly cloaked figure stood pressed against the wall of the commodore's quarters, waiting for his opportunity to strike. He had turned off his personal cloaking device, so that he could work more swiftly. For the past few days he had followed the woman around, and was impressed by her sheer will to continue to do her job, despite being deprived of sleep.
He watched her as she finally fell into a deep sleep, and continued watching her for a while. His gaze traced her forms under the thin blanket, and he shook his head to clear his thoughts. He had a job to do, despite his displeasure of it. He reached into a pocked of his black jumpsuit and retrieved a glass vial with a clear fluid. Since he had not been given any technologically high-standing equipment, he had to make do with old-fashioned needles and syringes.
Again, he watched her as he filled the syringe with a dosage of the fluid. He knew not wat the fluid was, for the vial was given to him unmarked. He only knew that if this did not work he was to use the blue-colored vial, and after that the green. He stood listening for sounds of the other two rooms, where the children were sleeping. He was told not to touch the children, just yet. He felt his conscience play up, he had small children himself, and he would not touch an innocent child.
He came out of the shadows, wrapping his black cloak tightly around him, his face shadowed by his hood, and he stepped forward. From a small pack he took an alcohol drenched swad and cleaned the shoulder of his victim with it, then quickly stabbed the short needle in the exposed skin and pressed down the syringe plunger, injecting the clear fluid.
A soft yelp escaped from Sonak's lips and she stirred when the fluid was shot home, but she did not wake. The cloaked man stepped back and cast himself into the shadows again, activating his personal cloaking device and watched the results of his actions.
A few hours later, Sonak woke and felt quite odd. She had had a bad night, but she would still go on duty. Grabbing for her uniform, she nearly lost her balance but caught herself quickly on the dresser before doing so. Shaking her head, she pulled on her uniform, grabbed a cup of coffee from the replicator and paged Nanny to take the children to the daycare centre. After that, she exited her quarters and headed up for the bridge.
"Status of the Romulans?" she asked Samuel Ramsden, as she sat down in her chair.

"How could you have let this happen?"
A tall, strong looking Romulan was cowering in the corner of the room. "I didn't just let it happen. There were too many Starfleet Officers for me to intervene."
"But did you attempt to get her back?"
"It was not possible. Starfleet had her secure..."
"Unacceptable" An even stronger looking Romulan stepped into the light. "You know how much we need her. AND how much we needed the information she carries not to be intercepted by Starfleet."
The taller Romulan had no answer.
"I have no further need of you."
A door opened at one side of the room.
"But..."
"LEAVE NOW"
He left the room, knowing he could well lose his life if the mistake could not be rectified.
The other Romulan sat back down in the dark area of the room. The recapture of Kate Martens was essential.
*I must know what she has told them.*

Back on the Vesuvius A...
"Status of the Romulans? Oh, yes, those, I'd quite forgotten about them and that hulking great Warbird of theirs..."
Ramsden was struggling to keep a straight face as he imitated a man trying to remember something important, then he turned his head upwards and looked out of the small viewport in the roof of the bridge.
"Yep. They are definately still there. Don't need sensors to see that big bugger."
"Mr. Ramsden... unless you have some kind of psionic power, you will need sensors to tell anything beyond the fact that they are above us."
Sonak looked tired, and Ramsden's antics whilst usually quite amusing, were starting to grate on her. She used her hand to stifle a yawn, making Fox look over at her from his chair.
"Having problems sleeping Commodore?"
"Yes. I don't know why... *yawn* but I've been completely exhausted and unable to get any rest."
*** That 'night' ***
The Romulan Tal'shiar operative again moved out of the shadows, always in shadow, and raised a filled syringe, but his hand stopped before he injected her, and he took a moment to look at Sonak's sleeping form. The light sheet that covered her lithe body comformed to every curve, and the agent stood there watching her quietly in the dark.
Why am I doing this? He had been watching her for several nights now, his mission slowly taking a back seat to his fantasies. So much time alone, hiding on an enemy vessel, always in the dark, the Romulan agent had started to crack. This wasn't the deal, he wasn't supposed to be trapped and in hiding for so long.
I need to get away from here... I have a family... I shouldn't be having these thoughts...
Slowly... he stood transfixed as the sheet slipped away to one side. Inside he was elated... this would take away some of the risk of what he was about to do. As he had done now for several nights, he bent his head down towards her body, moving to kiss the commodore ... his mouth just away... his breath caressing her skin... then he felt an incredible pain in his sternum before he could go any further. The agent flew backwards across the sleeping quarters, his chest having given way with a tremendous cracking sound, and smashed into a wardrobe as Sonak rushed over to give a knockout blow to his confused head.
What... oh no... I forgot to... inject... her... so very... beautiful...
As his vision faded into unconsiousness, all he could see was his obsession... as an avenging angel in the distance.
sorry samuel I had to edit some part of your post that was just too much on the suggestive front....

Sonak stood over the shrouded figure, shivering with fear, adrenalin coursing through her system. Her latest adventure, before being ordered into the heart of the Romulan Empire, had left her with perfect sight in the dark, and as soon as she had felt his breath, she had seen him, and moved before he could complete his action.
She felt dizzy as the adrenalin was wearing off, then she got the sense of mind to reach for her robe, and her communicator. "Sonak to security, report to my quarters at once. Ms Kanz, you better come too.." She bent and picked up a vial with a clear green fluid, not knowing what it was for. It looked like a hemolitical blood plasma sample to her. <centrifuged blood, which contains broken red blood cells, will show red colored plasma which is usually yellowish>
~has he...~ she wondered as she kept gazing at the glass vial in her hand. She had not found a hypospray on him. ~what is this fellow doing in my quarters?~
<Ramsden/Kanz>
(I do expect this fellow to return guys...)

"What is it Commodore? A spider in the bath... holy... toledo... where did he come from?"
Ramsden stopped short as he and L'Ola entered Sonak's quarters and saw the agent crumpled on the floor. He was even more put out when he noticed that Sonak hadn't thought to get dressed following her surprise.
"I don't know Mr. Ramsden. But I want to, thats why you're here. In the mean time, he's going to need medical attention."

ooc: what do you mean not getting dressed? Does a bathrobe not count as getting dressed???
ic:
Sonak watched as security took the hooded figure away. She had not wanted to watch who he was and of which species. Being in Romulan territory, she could make a fair guess. She turned to L'Ola. "I want you to recalibrate our sensors to pick up any cloaked figures on this ship. Use his personal cloaking device as a reference point. Also, find out what is in this vial." She held up the vial with the green fluid, of which she assumed was plasma containing hemoglobin from hemolyzed blood.
<Kanz>
Then Jatan entered her quarters, looking bewildered and pale. "What happened?" he demanded, after Kanz had left. He shot a look in Ramsden's direction, who was sweeping the quarters with a tricorder.
"I was attacked, sort of," Sonak replied, grateful for his presence, "he...." She trailed off and sent him a telepathic image instead. She saw his eyes flash with anger, and she put her hand on his arm. "It was nothing, but once again I am not getting to my rest. For the past several days I have been bothered by insomnia, and not even the sleeping aids you have been giving me are helping."
<Reckus>
She turned back to Ramsden. "Find anything commander?" she asked, wondering if she really wanted to know. "Any idea on how and when he came aboard?"
<Ramsden>
Just after she had asked, Fox came storming in. Sonak looked up at him and forced a smile. "My, it is getting crowded in here."
<Fox>

The Romulan agent sat in the Vesuvius' brig, watched over by one of Ramsden's security officers. He'd been slumped in the corner since being deposited there after being treated in sickbay.
How could she do that to me? She should be with me. Mine. My own sweet love. Damn that holograph, and his blasted soldiers. Still... I'll show them. I'll beat them all. And then she will be mine!
