While one of the junior romulan officer pressed a hypo-spray against Sonaks throat, the senior officer looked arround and saw that all the starfleet officers were under their control. He quickly reported this and not much later more romulans came on the bridge taking all the prisoners away, but ordered that they all should be treated well, especially the vulcan woman. Also he ordered to put her seperate from all the others. After that all walked off, to 'put away' the prisoners.
<OOC: little jump to sonaks waking up> Because Sonak was held under close watch it was noticed she had woken up again. Immediately this was reported to the senior romulan officer. While Sonak was looking a lil around in the room the doors shifted open and the romulan officer walked in, followed by some other officers.
"Ah, you are finally awake again." he spoke. In response Sonak asked how long she had been unconscious. "About...." the romulan thought for a while. "3 months. You were put back to sleep again immediately after you failed to answer our questions." Sonak thought deep as she couldnt remember being questioned.
"The vulcan mind really is an amazing thing." the romulan continued "You resisted a truth serum that no other species could. My superiors were quite angry because of that. Immediately a new serum has been made. And guess what." An evil grin appeared on the romulans face. "You are going to be the guinea-pig."
As he was saying this a hypo-spay was pressed against Sonaks neck. "Now you're going to answer all our questions." the romulan continued "Never..." Sonak replied angrily "I never will......" the drug started to work before she could finish her sentence. She became very calm.
"Now tell me everything." the romulan said "What is your business here? Tell me about your ship too. Its more advanced than any ship we've encountered." For a moment Sonak hesitated, but then began to tell.

She struggled against the drug, but found it increasingly difficult, however she was not a doctor for nothing, and she could be truthful when she told them she knew nothing about the ships advanced technology. "I..." she started, then shook her head, "no, I am not telling you anything."
The commander, who was in truth the lead Foreruner, grabbed another hypo and jammed it against her arm. "Talk woman," he barked.
"It is all Kate's doing," Sonak started, she was in agony now, fighting the drug, and only partially succeeding, "because of what she did, we are here. I know nothing of our technology, I am not an engineer." She was crying now, her emotional resistance broken. She also remembered parts of the past now, and knew the commander was lying; not three months but three years had passed, since her capture. "I am just a doctor," she cried, "I know of no technology."

When sonak woke a next time, she knew instantly that more time had passed than the Romulans were telling her that had passed. By now, 10 years had gone by, and she was still living, unconscious most of the time, in the same quarters where-ever she was. The Romulans had woken her up several times before, always telling her that a few weeks or a few months more had passed since the last time, but she knew they were lying. She was hiding from them the fact that she had developed an immunity to their truth-sera, as well as the fluids this shadow figure had been administering to her. Yet, she still had not regained her original sense of telepathy, though she assumed it would return in time.
She fooled the Romulans, and the Remans, that tended to her. She pretended she was partially broken, told them things they wanted to hear, even though she did not know if what she told them was true or not. She spent hours shivering, crying, and begging for them to please let her go or kill her, and it seemed to her that her act was convincing. ~fools~ she thought, as Shadow - as she had named him privately - approached again.
He smiled at her, and let his black hood fall back on his shoulders. He was actually hansome, for a Reman, but she was appalled by his gestures, and his attempts to win her for himself. ~I am not yours to win~ she thought bitterly ~nor any of you, not even your master. I am not your property, and I will be reunited with my beloved.~ Yet, she allowed him to trace the lines of her face with his fingers, it was all she allowed him to do.
When he tried to kiss her next, she smacked her flat hand against his face, sending him spinning on his feet. "A touch is all you can have," she spat, "now, leave me alone."
<response please>
Sonak spat at him again, enraged. "If that is all you can do, weakling!" Guards rushed in upon hearing her raised voice. It was the first time since her capture that she had defied her captors, and they were surprised. ONe of them grabbed her arms, while the other pressed a hypospray against her throat.
"Sweet dreams, sweetheard," the elder of the two said, as he eased her down on the bed. He was one of the few decent guards, and he covered her with the blankets, then ushered Shadow and his partner out of the room. "She will sleep for a while now," he reported, "she will be calmer next time she wakes up. Tend to her, care for her if you must, but do not lay your hands on her. I will see to her feeding in an hour personally."

Pilot : Commander Ma`Jel, we have arrived at destination.
Ma`Jel stood up and ordered the view screen on, magnified to her destination. After so long in space, it would be good to have solid ground beneath her feet again for a while.
Ma`Jel : Sub-Commander T`Ren, you are in command until my return
The two Romulan officers saluted each other and Ma`Jel strode off her bridge.
------------------------------------------
Some twenty minutes lated she was on the planet, ready to do her job. She relished it, every part of her was Romulan through and through. She stood outside the door of the room where her counterpart was waiting. Smiling coldly, she entered.
Commander Tolan : It`s good to see you :: lying through his gritted teeth ::
Ma`Jel : I doubt that however there is no time for pleasantries. The prisoner. What is your progress
Tolan : She is proving....a challenge....
Ma`Jel : Too much of a challenge for you it seems. I, Commander Ma`Jel hereby take command. You are relieved
Tolan was shocked, he thought Ma`Jel was just here to deliver supplies and provide a new section of troopers, not to take his post !
Tolan : I protest ! This is not right !
Ma`Jel : My staff will escort you for...debriefing
Tolan knew what that really meant. He was not prepared to just walk to his death. He grabbed for his weapon then froze, his expression one of amazement then he fell to his knees and that was it. Ma`Jels guard put away his weapon, the one Tolan did not even see as the beam from it took his life.
Ma`Jel : Get him out of my sight
She sighed with pleasure and looked around the room, then walked to the desk. She ran her gloved fingers over the surface of it calmly, then in a flash of temper swept everything on Tolans to the floor.
Thats better she thought, as she prepared to commence the task ahead.
Ma`Jel : Bring me the Reman in charge of attending the prisoner.

"Shadow" strode strongly into Ma'Jel's lair within Tolan's old office. The Reman's mouth took the form of a gruesome smile as he thought about how the female Romulan must have removed Tolan; no doubt that worm had resisted. Remans had a taste for blood shed, but when that blood was Romulan there was something tangibly delicious and satisfying about it.
"You are the soldier in charge of the prisoner, the one who had infiltrated the Federation starship Vesuvius."
Ma'Jel's face was almost impassive, but the Reman was certain that he could recognise a trace of contempt in her eyes. He did not reply just yet, it had been a statement of fact rather than a question.
"It seems that you have developed rather a perverse attraction for this woman."
Again, it was not a question. Again, the Reman stood there with his malicious smile firmly in place. There was nothing better than openly defying a Romulan commander, and there was nothing that a Romulan commander hated more than to be seemingly laughed at by Reman soldiers. It was a familiar dance to both parties.

Ma`Jel rose from her chair. She approached the Reman, slowly circling him, disgusted by him but also intrigued. He did not fear her. This displeased her, but at the same time she admired his gall. She put her face to his, too close for comfort though she hid her distaste well enough.
Ma`Jel :: speaking quietly, almost a whisper :: We will work together you and I. We will break the female. You have been too slow so far, distracted by her. Has she bewitched you perhaps ?
Before he could respond, she snapped her head away and turned her back on him, hand raised to indicate it would not be wise to speak.
She walked toward the desk, turned sharply then sat back on it, her face fixed, showing nothing. He refused to be intimidated by her and showed this by simply smiling the cruel way all Remans seemed to smile. Ma`Jel knew well enough that they understood each other. It would make no sense to make an enemy of him, not when he may be close to finding the answers she sought from their prisoner. So long as he did it soon.....
Ma`Jel :: suddenly smiling :: A drink ?
Shadow :: cocking his head, amused :: Why not.....
She ordered one of her guards to arrange for drinks and some food to be brought.
Ma`Jel : Sit, please. We should be comfortable. We have much to discuss....
Shadow looked toward a chair, noting it was placed to make the person in the chair feel small and intimidated. He strode to it purposefully, reached out, then re-positioned it to his liking. Ma`Jel was not surprised. Irritated yes, but not surprised. He did not see her face was like thunder as she went to her chair, and of course she was smiling again by the time she faced toward him again. He read her smile for what it was - utterly devious and two faced. This would be an uneasy collaboration but it had to be done. Better someone like him than some other whom she could not trust to at least have the same goal. Ultimately, he clearly wanted the prisoner for himself. No matter. Once the information was gained, she did not care what he did with that woman. All Ma`Jel was interested in was getting the job done swiftly.
Ma`Jel :: almost sweetly :: So, tell me, what do we know of this Sonak ? Not her career profile, but the person. What is she like ? :: then leaning forward, voice tainted with menace :: And why has she been able to resist your efforts thus far ?

Not long after she had been put to sleep, Sonak woke up slowly again. When she opened her eyes, she found the hansome Reman bent over her, his eyes fixated on hers. He stood up when she struggled to sit up. "How much time has passed?" she asked, rubbing her temples, she was feeling rather dizzy.
"About an hour," the guard replied, "are you alright?" He helped her to sit up and handed her a glass of water. "I am very sorry that they put you through this, had I any say, they would not make you suffer like this. Is there anything you need, that perhaps I can provide for you? I am to tend to you, even though I am supposed to keep you unconscious. The last guard was killed very recently, and he kept you under for nearly 11 years now."
Eyes widening, Sonak gazed at him, sensing he was speaking truth. "What do you want from me," she demanded, and slapped his hand away when he supported her. "Do not touch me."
"I am sorry," the Reman said, "I mean you no harm. The others do mean you harm, but I am going to make sure that they will not overly harm you. I cannot prevent it, but I can lessen the suffering. However, you must play along with me, they cannot know about it. I am Teh'kan. I repeat, is there anything you need?" He stared at her, and being a telepath off sorts, he sensed her discomfort, and distrust. "I have information about your family," he started, hoping that would gain her trust, "your children, they got away. My superiors do not know this, but I am in contact with the Romulan Underground, and they let me know. They are fine, and growing up very well cared for. Well, they did not exactly get away from the planet, as eventually they were discovered, but they live and are well cared for. I assure you, they will not be harmed, they are among friends. Your crew, some got killed, but several got captured also. They too, seem to be in good hands, sort of."
Sonak just stared at him, unable to say anything. Her children were all right, she dared not ask him about her beloved Jatan. Her senses told her that he was being truthful, but her senses also told her that she was drugged, and that she could easily be fooled. They had tried that, fooling her, and it had not worked, she had seen through them. "I do not believe you," she finally said, "go away, leave me alone. I do not wish to have anything to do with anyone who holds me captive for over 10 years. Go away."
The Reman nodded. "Very well, I will put you to sleep again then. My superiors must not find out that I woke you without their supervision. If you betray me, you will be sorry."
"I have nothing to lose," Sonak said, glaring defiantly at him.
Teh'kan's eyes flashed anger for a moment, then his expression softened. He felt sorry for her, and understood her bitterness. He had lost his own family several years ago and he was still seeking revenge. "But you have my dear," he said, "your life, your family. Do not give up hope, please, or all has been for nothing."
"Go away," Sonak repeated, and stiffened as she felt the cold tip of the hypospray against her throat. Instantly, she was asleep again.
The Reman shook his head in dismay. He had a long way to go yet. He arranged her on the bed again and tucked her in, then kissed her lightly on the forehead. "Sweet dreams sweetheard," he whispered, "perhaps next time you will trust me."

<Shortly after the crash (not sure exactly how long after)>
For a while the future was not certain. Her body almost gave up. But the power of the mind is a strange thing, and her mind wanted the exact opposite. She had to see him again. She had to survive.
When L'Ola Kanz became conscious once more she had no idea of the length of time that had passed. Was it hours? Or maybe days? She couldn't tell.
She opened her eyes, and the room slowly came into focus. She could see that she was still on the Bridge, or what was left of it anyway. She couldn't see anyone else around, they had obviously all been captured.
She slowly stood up and began to walk around, ducking under fallen panels and cables. She misjudged the size of a gap, and banged her side into the wall. Only then did she become fully aware of the pain her body was still suffering. She nearly screamed, but remembered that there might have been Romulans still on board.
*I need to get out of here*
L'Ola couldn't guess what was happening to everyone else. Part of her didn't want to know. She had no way of telling who had died and who was still at the mercy of the Romulans. But something inside her said that Nick was still alive, and the thought that she could see him again gave her strength. She had to see him again.
She crawled through the jeffries tubes and managed to reach a series of escape pods. She hoped that their power systems would not have been affected by the crash.
Managing to get into one, she put to practical use all the information she had acquired about cloaking devices. If she managed to change a few of the frequencies emitted by the pod, it should be reasonably hard to detect, even if the strange anomaly was still around. And unless the Romulans had guessed that someone was still aboard, they were very unlikely to be doing constant detailed scans of the module she was in.
She also made adjustments to the power systems to make it easier to manoeuvre and so that it could travel for longer if needed.
Once she had finished the necessary modifications, she accessed data from one of the science labs and scanned her area for cloaked lifeforms. L'Ola nearly leapt up with shock when she detected one inside the pod she was in. Then she remembered that Nick had activated the cloak, and that she was in fact detecting herself.
Satisfied that she was alone, she powered up the escape pod. It was only when prompted for co ordinates that she realised she didn't know where she was going. Her first thought was to head for the nearest Starbase, but she couldn't face talking to anyone from Starfleet about her experiences.
"Home" she suddenly said, as if giving herself someone else's idea. "I need to go home."
She directed the escape pod to Vulcan, and set it going, hoping that her modifications would be enough to get her out of Romulan space.
L'Ola looked out of the window at the planet that was getting smaller and smaller. Again she got the feeling that Nick was still alive. She gripped onto her necklace with one hand, looking for comfory.
"One day I'll see you again."

As L'Ola should have realised, and as she did realise as soon as her mind cleared a bit, there was absolutely no chance of her getting as far as Vulcan in an escape pod starting from inside Romulan space. No matter how many modifications she'd made.
Even if she could make it, the pain in her shoulder was getting worse again, and something told her she needed to see a doctor very soon.
She checked through the planets nearest to her that were inhabited by someone other than Romulans. If she couldn't find any, then she'd be better going back and handing herself over.
L'Ola started to get very annoyed with herself.
"Think about this logically. You're stuck in an escape pod in the middle of Romulan space with a limited sensor block. What can you do next?"
Silence took over. "Of course that's the problem with talking to yourself I suppose, you always have to think of what to say."
She managed to find an M-Class planet nearby that she could reach to land on. "Has to be better than being stuck in here I suppose."
Reluctantly she altered course. Trying to escape Romulan space would have to wait.

OOC: this is some detail to my first post. I shall call it The Escape, and it shall be known as good. No more, no less.
The three inmates slowly slunk down the corridor. Their collective senses sharp for any sign of movment or activity. So far they'd seen only one guard in the dim and dank hallways and he'd been incapacitated relatively easily. Sarah now grasped his distrupter, ready to strike when needed, and Nick wielded a large jagged pipe. Jate hastily limped behind the two toting a tricorder also taken from the guard.
"There are biosigns to our left... human," Jate whispered at the two leaders. Nick nodded in aknowlegment and motioned to Sarah to check out the situation. She peered around the corner and through the darkness noted two Romulans asleep at their posts. She leaned back and held up two fingers and motioned over her shoulder.
"I'm not picking them up," Jate said looking down at his tricorder.
"Thats because they're dead," a voice said from the shadows behind them. The three whirled around to face whoever might have been following them. Sarah moved in front of Jate and pointed her disrupter at the shadow.
"Come now, you didn't think the died by themselves now do you?" The voice said again. The shadow took a few steps foreward into the dim light. The shadow suddenly took the form of Ramsden.
"Frak dude!" Nick blurted and wiped the sweat from his brow. "Now I have to change my uniform." Sam chuckled and walked around the corner.
"Alright guys you can come out now," He motioned to the cells. Immediatly 6 of the remaining prisoners came out, each in their varying states of health. "Lovely thing about being a holograph is biosensors can't see me." (Sam correct me if I'm wrong)
"Lucky you," Jate commented dryly, "Now if you don't mind we should get moving."
~shuttle bay~
Sam and Sarah moved into the room crouched down as not to be seen by the guards of the shuttle. Nick and Ensign Gray moved to their right to try and flank the Romulans. Jate slowly tryed to follow but tripped and knocked over a canister. One of the guards let out a yell and fired a round at Jate clipping his already injured leg. Just as quickly Sam got a couple shots off taking out one of the guards as he dove for cover. One Romulan dashed up the ramp and into the shuttle. Seconds later a highpitched whine filled the air. The Nacels turned bright blue then jet black as sparks flew from an overload. The now defencive Romulans began a barrage to try and force the survivors into retreat.
"Give up now Humans!!" One yelled over his storage container and fired a couple more shots.
"Never!" came a voice. A loud rumble shortly followed filling the room. Wind began blowing dust and small containers in all directions. The Romulan commander looked around in confusion as to the source. Suddenly in the air a small round object materialised and bounced in the middle of him and his officers. I began beeping slow at first then sequencially faster.
"GRENADE!" He yelled but not fast enough as shrapnel took him.
Nick peeked out from his hiding space. The wind began to die down as did the sound. There in the middle of the room a white door began to apear and a catwalk lowered to the ground. Out walked Lena and no sooner did she set foot on the ground did the shuttle materialise.
~elsewhere~
L'Ola stepped out of her escape pod and into jungle. ~at least it's not desert~ she thought. All around her came the sounds of a varity of birds and other animals alarmed by her landing. She looked around behind the pod and noted a large swath cut through the trees. Through the gap she could see a large peak rising out of the jungle.
"Well lets see where we're at," she muttered to herself and slowly made her way up the slope.
OOC: I have more, it involves a Tellarite and some saurian brandy.... long story.....

Ma`Jel listened as ` Shadow ` talked about Sonak. He had gleaned little about the womans personality, not surprising as she was drugged much of the time. It seemed however, that she was very strong willed, determined not to crack. Shadows` reasons for not getting information sounded like excuses to the impatient Commander however, he would have to persevere and find a way. Any way would do...... She stood and slowly walked over to him, deep in thought. Reaching forward, she took his half finished drink and put it on the desk, a little harder than was necessary. Some of the liquid spilled, trickling over the edge. Ma`Jel ran her finger under a drip and licked it. Reman taste in drinks was as vile as their appearance she thought, as the bitter liquid made her tongue smart. Ma`Jel : We have talked enough. Get back to work. I will join you shortly Shadow :: eyes narrowing :: I do my work alone The Romulan Commander slammed her hand on the desk, angrily, Ma`Jel : I am in charge here now, do not forget that. Unless you wish to join my predessessor I suggest you do not question my authority again. You have as long as it takes for me to get the reports on the rest of her crew then I WILL be speaking to Sonak myself. Shadow :: calmly :: As you wish....Commander..... He walked to the door but as it opened he turned toward Ma`jel Shadow : Might I suggest, Commander, you take a leaf from your Vulcan ` relatives ` and approach this situation more calmly.... He smirked then turned on his heel, exiting the office, narrowly missed by the glass which Ma`Jel threw in temper. Were he not the one most likely to get results, she would have killed him where he had been sitting, the impudent creature. But no, she had to allow him to continue. She took a deep breath and sat again. Tapping at her monitor, she began looking at the reports given at the time of the attack which resulted in Sonak`s capture. There had to be something she could use.......

Teh'kan, having just arrived to see Shadow leave the commander's office, waited patiently to be called in after his knock on the door. He gazed after the retreating covert operative and sneered. He disliked the man, even though the was one of the few who could methodically extract information from his charges. ~but not with my charge~ he thought. He had been administering counter-agents to his prisoner, making her more resitable to the drugs.
He nearly missed the call to come in, and a repeat shook him out of his thoughts. His eyes widened in surprise as he saw a female instead of the male commander he was used to. The previous commander had been somewhat in his league, this one he had to figure out first. Quickly, he cast down his glance, as was only polite for someone his stature. "Ma' am?" he asked, "what can a humble guard do for you?"

Ma`Jel looked at Teh`Kan as he entered. Finally, she thought, a Reman who knew his place. He was likely too afraid to give her any cause for concern. She motioned him to come closer, and was pleased to see how nervous he was. Good. He looked ideal for what she wanted.
Ma`Jel : I am Commander Ma`Jel, and you are ?
Teh`kan : I am your servant, Tek`han, it is my honour to serve
Ma`Jel : Indeed, so should it be.... I understand you assist in the daily...care...of our prisoner. Tell me, what is your opinion of her ?
Tek`han did not know quite what to say. He could not speak the truth, that he actually liked and cared for her - his life would be forfeit in an instant. Luckily, Ma`Jel took his hesitation as merely nerves. She took a softer demeanour.
Ma`Jel : You have nothing to fear from me. It must be difficult for you, working with the one they call Shadow ?
Tek`han briefly looked at her with surprise then dropped his gaze again. The previous Commander had never sought his opinion, so why does this one ? Could it be due to her gender ? Perhaps that was why her superiors had sent her. Might she have empathy with Sonak ? He could not risk seeking the answer yet, it would arouse too much suspicion.
Ma`Jel : I wish you to do something for me. I want to know what you have see and hear while Shadow questions her. I want to know every word she speaks.
Teh`kan knew at that moment that she did not have the empathy he had hoped for, for Sonak. She was as cruel and hard as Shadow, her only care being for information, and should Sonak give her what she wanted, he feared it would then mean her death.
Teh`kan : Of course Commander, I shall do as you wish :: bowing his head in subservience ::
Of course he would not help her. His biggest fear was that Sonak may utter her childrens name while in a drug induced stupor but that had not happened thus far - he could imagine how this Romulan Commander would use it against Sonak.
Ma`Jel : Is there anything you wish to say ? You appear deep in thought.
Teh`kan quickly responded, telling her no, that he was simply awed at her confidence in him that she was giving him a chance to serve her directly by spying on Shadow. Ma`Jel smiled with satisfaction, and told him she would follow shortly to observe Shadows latest attempts. Little did she know Teh`kans` motivation was not what she believed.
She dismissed him and when he reached the corridor he leant against the wall, relieved that she had not been able to see the frightened deception in his face. He hurried back to Sonaks detention cell, and made himself busy while closely watching Shadow, desperate to help Sonak but unable to at this time. Sonak was moaning, incoherent as Shadow gave her the drug to revive her, sickened as he watched Shadow leering while he ran his hand down her cheek as she lay helpless.
Finding it unbearable, he interupted Shadow, reminding him that the Commander would be arriving shortly. Shadow glared at him and snatched his hand away from Sonak. He was about to strike Teh`kan when Ma`Jel swept in. She had followed Teh`kan only moments after he had left her office and had quietly stood at the doorway, observing Shadow. Now she knew what was taking so long. The Reman`s behaviour confirmed Ma`Jels` suspicion that he was as interested in taking Sonak for himself as he was in extracting information.
Ma`Jel :: firmly :: I wish to talk to her. How long before she will be fully awake ?
Sonak : No, I don`t <mumbles> abandon ship, all hands, abandon ship <mumbles>
She must be dreaming, trapped in some nightmare.
Shadow :: annoyed :: The drug will bring her around in a few minutes
Ma`Jel stood aside and watched Sonak as her head jerked a few times, then she gasped and her eyes were wide open, darting around as she got her bearings. Yes, she was still here, the waking nightmare as bad as those in her dreams. Finally she focused on the new stranger looming over her.
Ma`Jel smiled in her usual two faced way :: I am Commander Ma`Jel. I would like to help you. All you need to do is answer a few questions and this will be all over, you will be freed.
Shadow stepped forward to protest but Ma`jel shot him a look to shut him up immediately. She gently touched Sonaks hand, her face softening. Sonak coughed, her lungs rasping. She was weakened severely by the constant drugs and from being prone for so long.
Ma`Jel :: with faked concern :: Teh`kan, fetch some water for her, it will ease her throat and make it easier for her to speak.
Shadow was incensed at Ma`Jels interference but kept hold of his temper outwardly, furous as he watched Ma`Jel with his ` prize `.

Teh'kan went to fetch the requested glass of water, and covertly dissolved something in it that would make his charge think more clearly. It dissolved nicely, leaving absolutely no trace of it on the glass, nor was it visible in the water. Teh'kan knew his business well, despite he was believed to be just an ignorant Reman. He returned, helped Sonak to sit up and assisted her in downing the water. Since he knew now that neither Ma'jel nor Shadow were capable of telepathy nor were they ever so slightly empathic, and so he knew too that it was fairly safe to 'communicate' with his charge. What neither Shadow nor Ma'jel, nor the previous commander had known was that Teh'kan was slightly empathic. And since he had helped Sonak regain some of her original telepathic abilities, he could 'talk' to her in silence. ~this should help you, drink it all love~ he thought ~think before you answer questions, do not pay attention to touch and bribes, they are all lies the bribes~ Sonak, appreciating the support somewhat, looked around to get her bearings, then fixed her gaze on the beautiful female before her. She caught the warning, and gave him an appreciative smile, hoping the other two would take it to mean she was appreciative of the water. "What do you want," she managed, after sipping the water carefully, "there is nothing that I can nor will tell you that you have not already extracted from me, with or without my knowledge. I have been here how long?" She gazed at Teh'kan, who supplied her with an answer. "Nearly 11 years, yes I would believe that would be correct. In that timeframe I would not doubt that a lot has changed within the Federation, changes that you would be more aware of than I." <Ma'jel/Shadow> She gasped as Shadow suddenly stepped forward, shoved the Reman guard aside roughly and jammed a hypospray against her arm. Knowing that the effects would probably be much worse without the counteragent Teh'Kan had provided her with, she did feel it take effect instantly. She was starting to feel somewhat drowsy, but not so much that she could not think clearly. Ma'jel was still smiling down at her, and asked her first question. In reply, Sonak started murmuring, reciting the first thing she ever learned at Starfleet Medical School; the oath of Hippocrates. "I SWEAR by Apollo the physician, and Aesculapius, and Health, and All-heal, and all the gods and goddesses, that, according to my ability and judgment, I will keep this Oath and this stipulation- to reckon him who taught me this Art equally dear to me as my parents, to share my substance with him, and relieve his necessities if required; to look upon his offspring in the same footing as my own brothers, and to teach them this art, if they shall wish to learn it, without fee or stipulation; and that by precept, lecture, and every other mode of instruction, I will impart a knowledge of the Art to my own sons, and those of my teachers, and to disciples bound by a stipulation and oath according to the law of medicine, but to none others. I will follow that system of regimen which, according to my ability and judgment, I consider for the benefit of my patients, and abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous. I will give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel; and in like manner I will not give to a woman a pessary to produce abortion. With purity and with holiness I will pass my life and practice my Art. I will not cut persons laboring under the stone, but will leave this to be done by men who are practitioners of this work. Into whatever houses I enter, I will go into them for the benefit of the sick, and will abstain from every voluntary act of mischief and corruption; and, further from the seduction of females or males, of freemen and slaves. Whatever, in connection with my professional practice or not, in connection with it, I see or hear, in the life of men, which ought not to be spoken of abroad, I will not divulge, as reckoning that all such should be kept secret. While I continue to keep this Oath unviolated, may it be granted to me to enjoy life and the practice of the art, respected by all men, in all times! But should I trespass and violate this Oath, may the reverse be my lot!" She was pleasantly surprised to see the stunned expression on the Romulan faces before her, even Teh'kan looked surprised. Yet, she had gained her goal, she had diverted their attention, and did not answer the question asked. When Ma'jel repeated her question, she went on reciting symptoms of various illnesses, always avoiding the questions. <Ma'jel/Shadow> *have fun *

Ma`Jel : What is this gibberish she speaks ? Shadow you are failing and my patience is not endless.
Shadow : More drugs may be fatal. I`m sure you do not want her to die before her mind clears enough to be coherent....
Ma`Jel : Enough ! Leave us !
Shadow : I protest !
Ma`Jel :: through gritted teeth :: Out, now !
Shadow stormed out of the room, muttering as he went. She was about to talk to Sonak again when Teh`kan approached cautiously
Teh`kan : Forgive me Commander, may I speak to you ?
Ma`Jel sighed and joined him out of Sonaks hearing. He explained about the effects of the drugs and that Sonak must be allowed to rest again, as she was so weakened. Ma`Jel instructed him to do what was necessary and to then leave.
Once he was gone she looked at the sleeping form of the prisoner then looked around the quarters. It was rather spartan, not conducive to gaining Sonaks co-operation she decided. Perhaps some improvements were in order....
She set about arranging certain items to be brought, and placed them as she saw fit. The next time Sonak awoke she would see a very different scene - well, she would not see quite everything which was new.....
--------------------------------------------
Sonaks eyes opened. To her surprise she was in a chair, and could see out of a window. Rising, unsteadily, she approached it and touched the glass. She did not realise it was a holographic projection, showing a landscape of her home planet. She was most confused.
Ma`Jel : It is to your liking ?
Sonak spun around, startled by her visitor who had been standing siolently at the doorway.
Sonak : I remember your face though you look....older.....
Ma`Jel : We are both older my dear. We have known each other for nine years now. Don`t you remember our talks ?
Sonaks eyes widened as she took it in. She recalled nothing of what Ma`jel was telling her now
Ma`Jel : I shall leave you to rest. Just remember Sonak, as soon as you tell me what I want to know, that view will no longer be just an image - you could be there within a week. I will be back soon....
Sonak watched her leave then turned back to the fake window, trying to clear her muddled mind....

Sonak just stood there, trying to grasp what the woman had just told her. The window sure felt real, but the woman, Ma'Jel, said that she could be there within a week, so it must be a projection. Still confused, she returned to her chair; a rocking chair, one of her favourite kind. She leaned back and rocked the chair back and forth, finding comfort in it. Then a flash of memor struck her: she was sitting in the chair, holding a baby. "Children!" she whispered, "I have children!" Why had she not remembered this before? "Twenty years," she murmured on, "the child must be in his twenties now, or older." She did not remember when she had the child, nor if she had more than one.
Another image came to mind, a hansome face, slanted eyebrows and pointed ears. "Seliv," she whispered, remembering her bondmate, and she let out an anguished cry. Soon, the face was replaced with another, more kind, worried eyes filled with love. She knew she had been close with this man, but she could not remember his name. "Who are you?" she whispered, talking to her memories.
Then a familiar person stepped into the room, carrying a tray with foodstuffs and drinks. "Ah, you are awake," Teh'kan said, smiling broadly at her. He set down the tray, picked up a napkin and walked up to her. "Now now, don't cry," he said, wiping the tears from her face, then embraced her briefly. He knew Sonak had taken comfort in the little touches from his end, and he knew very well that she feared both Ma'jel and Shadow. They had been training her telepathic gifts in the last 9 years and they had been very successful, if only her memory would return.
"This is not real," Sonak started, pointing at the window, "I would very much like to see the real sun again. Do you think I can go outside just once? Please?"
Teh'kan frowned. She had never asked him to take her outside before, and he knew that Ma'jel would never agree. So far, Sonak had told Ma'jel mostly of what she had wanted to know, but never any personal details. "I could ask the commander," he proposed, "but I doubt that she will agree."
Sonak was becoming an emotional wreck, the drugs that had been administered in the past 20 years had taken its toll on her, and had poisoned her systems, though had not damaged them. "Please," she begged, "before Shadow comes back. I do not want to talk to him anymore! I am scared!" She clung to the Reman in fear.
Teh'kan shook her off gently. "I have to go now my dear," he whispered, "but I will be back." As soon as he stepped out of the quarters, he stood face to face with Ma'jel. "Commander," he started, then his eyes widened. He stook a step back and stumbled against the wall. Looking down, he saw a knife protruding from his side. He looked up, his brain was not registering yet that he was dying. His eyes glazed over as he sagged towards the floor, death coming over him before he had fully fallen down. ~my love~ was his final thought ~I fear you will never see the sun now~
Inside the quarters, Sonak uttered a scream in fear as she saw Shadow enter. She walked back away from him as far as she could, stumbling over various items of furniture that she had not know that were there. "Go away!" she cried.

Silently the cloaked Defiant class made it's way into the heart of the Romulan Empire. "Entering the system Commodore," the young vulcan said from the helm. The bridge of the Wolverine hummed silently around them. "Very good, get the marines ready. We're going to need all the muscle we can get."
"Aye sir," the helmsman replyed moving from his post to the turbo lift. A soft swish assured the Commodore as the doors closed. ~only a few more hours~ he thought to himself. On the viewscreen a large cobalt blue Forerunner battleship passed them by. It's Plasma engines casting an eery glow down it's hull, accentuating it's large weapon mounts.
"Status?" He turned and asked the tactical officer.
"We're doing great, this new cloak is working great. They couldn't see us if they were sitting on our hull sir."
"Umm sir we're getting a priority communication from the fleet. It's a distress call sir."
"On screen," The Commodore said standing up to look at the screen. The incoming image sprung to life and crackled in and out of existance. "Stablize it."
"This is Captain Dobson of the USS Vesuvius-B to any ships in the area. The fleets taken heavy casualties. The package has been delivered, we're falling back," the fuzzy image sputtered. An ensign behind the captain blurted out a report.
"Direct hit! Hull breachs, decks 11 through 22. Containment failure in the Anti-Matter tanks. Core breach imminent!"
The captain turned back to the screen and the image sputtered again, "Nick I know you're watching this, good luck old friend." The image cut out and the transmission ended.
The Commodore looked back at the comm station.
"Long range sensors confirm a large matter anti-matter explosion consistant with a Galaxy class ship. The Vesuvius has been destroyed sir."
Nick looked back at the screen, "Good bye old friend," he whispered.
~transporter room~
The young Vulcan stood amongst the marines prepping for the away mission. He tightened the straps on his combat vest and checked the charge on his rifle and hand phaser. The doors opened to reveal the Commodore dressed in the same gear as the rest of the gathered. He looked over with a frown and shook his head.
"You're not going Seliv. It's too dangerous."
"I'm just as good as any of these marines. Besides logic would dictate that it is my mother we are rescuing. Thus it would be prudent that I be on this team."
"Very well. Cheif prepare for transport."
OOC: Wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more, say no more.......

Ma`Jel stepped back from the now motionless Reman guard Teh`kan. She looked at her hand which was spattered from the stab wound from which his lifes blood was spreading on the floor. The Commander motioned to her personal guards to see to removing his body then coldly turned away. Shadow had stood silently watching while Ma`Jel killed Teh`kan then, smirking, he entered the prisoners quarters. Ma`Jel heard Sonak`s screams as she walked off to her office. Once thre, she tapped the console on her desk and waited until an image flickerd on the screen
Ma`Jel : The traitor has been dealt with. It was confimed, the device in the prisoners quarters was most revealing. The Reman was heard declaring his feelings for her as she slept, as though he could reach ehr in her dreams, the fool.
Senior Operative : Has he been responsible for her being able to hide information all these years ?
Ma`Jel : It is possible. He may have tampered with the drugs which are being used. As we speak she is having blood drawn for analysis. If she was given counteractive agents we will know shortly
Senior Operative : Keep me informed
Ma`Jel closed the transmission and sat back in her chair, her hands clasped. She saw that the blood had stained her hand and sleeve. She grimaced in disgust and left her office to go to her quarters where she ripped off her soiled uniform and took a sonic shower, ridding herself of the Remans stench. She was just towelling herself down when her door comm sounded. Annoyed, she put on a civillian robe and told whoever it was to enter.
Guard :: averting his eyes :: Commander, forgive the intrusion. A report has just come in. A Federation escape pod hs been located on an uninhabited M class planet. It was from the prisoners ship. Do you wish it to be retrieved ?
Ma`Jel :: eye`s narrowing :: If there re no bodies in the pod, search every inch of that planet until you find the escapees, dead or alive. If they are still alive, bring them here to me. Go !
So, thought Ma`Jel, you may have company soon my dear Sonak. Company or.........your replacement.........

<before the defiant lanch> Right after Captain Harper had heard that Commodore Nick was planning to try to rescue Sonak he had contacted him about it. After Nick had told Harper what his plan was Harper offered to take Nick and the marines on his ship to the Romulans. Nick agreed.
Harpers ship went in premature refit, because Nick had said it needed some modifications, like having a cloaking device installed. Kahlan Hope was called for this job, being a real expert on cloaking devices. Together with T'Shan she started working on it.
Once all the modifications were done, Harper let Seliv, his XO, notify Nick that the ship was ready. Also he asked if Kahlan and T'Shan would join them. "We could use our cloak experts in case something goes wrong." he said. They both agreed. After all the marines and the Commodore himself had boarded the flew off.
OOC: im not going in detail on the battle.
<after the journey> Finally after a long trip the cloaked defiant sneaked into Romulan Space. Right after Captain Dobsons message Nick walked off the bridge going to prepair the marine team. Asking to be notified immediately when they could start their rescue operation. "Aye, Sir" Harper replied as Nick walked further.
After a while Seliv stood up from his chair saying: "I've got to go with them. I've got to help them rescue mother." Harper agreed saying: "You better hurry then, they're already in the transporter room and we're almost there." After that Seliv walked off.
<transporter room> Nich, Seliv and the marines were waiting in the transporter room for Harpers call. A few moments later Harper called: "We're in position Commodore." "Okay Captain." Nick replied. "We're off." The marines already on the platform were beamed down immediately, followed by more marines, Nick and Seliv.

For what seemed like the thousandth time, Kahlan checked the cloak status. It was a fairly pointless activity. She'd checked it just a minute before, and had given the computer strict instructions to inform her of the slightest change. But if anything went wrong it would be her fault, and she needed to keep her record up. Much more chance of better training that way...
There was definitely something reassuring about knowing it was all okay...
"Attention, minor fluctuations in cloak power grid"
Kahlan drew in a sharp breath, "Never think everything's alright" she muttered under her breath.
She started to alter certain parameters and make adjustments to power relays.
"Cannot complete specified modifications. Authorisation required."
"I swear I'll kill that computer one of these days. Computer, this is Lieutenant Kahlan Hope. Authorisation code 3 lamda zeta 6."
"Authorisation accepted. Modifications in progress."
"Well at least it should be more secure now" she muttered under her breath, "less likely to have anything go wrong."

Reaching the top of the peak, L'Ola was quite disappointed not to find anyone. After all, she'd been following a track clearly made by other humanoids. She climbed up a rock and looked all around.
Her first impression was how impressive the landscape near her was. It looked like a great place for nature holidays, although the location was a little off the tourist trail...
Then she realised she still wasn't thinking properly, and tried to concentrate on more important matters.
Down the opposite side of the peak to the side she'd climbed she could make out a similar trail. Following it down she saw it end in an area that looked strangely like a camp of some kind, although from that distance it was hard to tell.
But she decided that she would aim to get there before dark, there would probably be somewhere she could rest nearby.
So L'Ola started to walk down the hillside, following the track. She hadn't gone too far when the pain in her shoulder became worse again. "Ignore it, it's fine, there's nothing wrong..." she tried to tell herself, but it didn't help.
She sat down to rest for a while, and drank some of the water she was carrying. As she got used to it, the pain became tolerable once more, and she was able to press on.
As the evening drew nearer it began to get cold. Not that she minded. As a small child she'd spent quite a few cold evenings outside; the best place to escape cold Klingon kids.
She saw a light in the distance that rapidly seemed bigger and bigger as she drew nearer. It became obvious that it was a campfire. The track opened out and she walked into a seemingly deserted campsite. Well, it seemed deserted until someone grabbed her and put a disruptor against her head.

Five more Tellarites stepped out from behind surrounding trees.
"Just an observation, but she's wearing a Starfleet uniform." One of them pointed out.
The man with the disruptor turned L'Ola around to face him, "You don't look like a Romulan."
She got up the courage to speak, "I'm not. I'm a Betazoid."
"So what am I thinking?"
"I don't know. I hurt myself a while back and the pain's blocking my telepathic and empathic powers." she replied. It was a lot simpler than explaining the truth.
The disruptor guy stepped back, and the 6 of them formed a ring around her.
"The question is, what is an injured Betazoid doing in Romulan Space?"
Every direction L'Ola turned there was a Tellarite staring her in the face.
"Believe me, I wish I wasn't here. I'm a Starfleet Science Officer. We were checking a few planets for rocks with certain properties, I won't bore you with the details."
"Please don't"
"Well we were fairly close to the boarder, and we got a message saying we'd strayed into the Neutral Zone without permission. The Romulans must have been watching us, because a ship de-cloaked right next to us, and they opened fire. I was taken prisoner, the others were killed on the ship."
One of the Tellarites looked suspiciously at her, "Next I suppose you'll expect us to believe you escaped. A nice simple Starfleet escape."
"I wish. If it was, I wouldn't have done this" she said, pointing to her shoulder. "I had a run in with a few security officers on my way out, but I managed to get to an escape pod and hide it from their sensors. Oh, could you use one of these, I stole it from one of the guards." She took the cloaking device off and showed it to one of them.
"What is it?" He asked.
"It's a personal cloaking device. I checked it out while my escape pod was on the way down here. Hides you perfectly from sensors, and you can still operate normally."
Five of the Tellarites grouped together to examine the device, the sixth stood still with a disruptor pointing at L'Ola in case she took the opportunity to try and run off.
The man she had handed the cloak to walked back over, "This is a very good piece of technology. If you can get items such as this and evade Romulans we may have a use for you. Follow me."
He led her through the trees to a small ship. Looking at the relative heights, It was quite easy to see why she hadn't spotted it before. The trees formed a good natural canopy.
Just as he walked inside he called back, "Tal, come here." He then walked the rest of the way in, L'Ola followed, and another of the Tellarites walked in after her. This was obviously Tal.
The first Tellarite motioned for L'Ola to sit down. "Tal can treat your shoulder." As Tal got to work he continued to speak. "I am Kav. As you will no doubt have guessed, we are traders who serve customers in Romulan space as well as the Federation and its allies. We will be returning to Federation space soon. If you help us, we can take you back."
L'Ola said nothing in reply.
"What is your name, Betazoid?"
She looked up at him. "Della" She replied, "Della Kanz." Although she wanted them to trust her, she felt safer giving her mother's name.
"Well, Della, we need to make one more delivery before we leave Romulan space. Only problem is the Romulans are getting better at escaping our sensors, and we really can't afford to be caught."
"I'll take a look at them." She said, hoping there was something she could do to help. Having found her ticket out she didn't want to lose it.
"Well it's okay for now." Tal said, "But when we get back to Federation space I'd get a decent Starfleet doctor with proper equipment to have a look, just to be on the safe side."
"Thank you, the pain's gone now." She turned to Kav, "So where can I have a look at these sensors?"
"Right this way..."
L'Ola followed him through to another section of the ship. She couldn't help but wonder whether she'd just survived the hardest part, or whether that was still to come.

<I think we should move to VES-C thread now.....don't you guys 'n gals?>
T'Shan watched Kahlan from a distance, only slightly bemused at her half-Romulan friend. They had gone through the academy together, where Kahlan specialized on cloaking systems, and she on main engineering. She had always known her biological father had been an engineer, and the only father she had known, Jatan, had encouraged her to follow his footsteps. "Is it finally working T'Pal?" she called, calling her friend by her Vulcan name.
<Kahlan>
"Well, I heard that we are nearing our target, but of course Captain Harper, nor Commodore Martens would let me in on the details. I do, however, have the feeling that Seliv does know. His excitement gives him away." T'Shan always knew where her twin was, and what he was feeling, as did her twin with her. "Need any help with that?" she finally asked.
Then her bondmate, Seklar, stepped up to her. His face was one mask of disapproval, he did not like her displaying so much emotion, even though he was aware of her background. "I will be in sciencelab one," he said, "do not forget we have a lunch appointment at 12:00."
T'Shan nodded. "I will not forget Seklar," she said, "have I ever forgotten one of our appointments?" She shook her head in dismay; she loved Seklar dearly but she wished that for once he would just accept her the way she was, and not constantly try to change her into something she was not. She turned back to Kahlan. "So, about that help...?"

"Is it finally working T'Pal?"
"Should be, of course you never know with these things. Half the time I swear the thing will blow up in my face. Definitely looking up though."
"Just as well, we could need a cloak any time soon."
"Are we nearly there then? Wherever 'there' happens to be." Kahlan asked, hoping to get a bit more information.
"Well, I heard that we are nearing our target, but of course Captain Harper, nor Commodore Martens would let me in on the details. I do, however, have the feeling that Seliv does know. His excitement gives him away."
Kahlan was amazed at how little curiosity her friend was showing. It was one thing to respect that not everyone could know everything, but how anyone could work without even wanting to know what it was all for was beyond her.
There was a loud beep, and she turned round to see several lights flashing on the cloak management console.
She swore under her breath, and started entering more instructions. A few moments later there was another louder beep.
"Need any help with that?" T'Shan finally asked.
Kahlan was about to reply when Seklar, T'Shan's bondmate, arrived. Instead of relaying an urgent plea for help, Kahlan tried more permutations, and formulated a few possible tricks.
Seklar left, and T'Shan turned back "So, about that help...?"
"Power distribution. Honestly, I thought I had that sorted out. The cloak is being extremely picky about the amount of power it gets, and especially when in it's cycle it gets it." Kahlan answered.
"So what can I do?"
"Help me alter the amount of power manually for a bit so that we can work out the pattern. Then, with any luck, the computer can alter it."
"Luck? We are talking about a piece of technology."
"Yes, and a very temperamental one at that. So we could use a little co operation too..."

T'SHan examined the cloak's power distribution closely. "Ah look," she said, after peering at it for a long moment, "this coupling here is fried, and look over here, your phase converter is out of alignment by 10%. And by the looks of it, the cloak is requiring more power than we initially thought. Here look." She pointed at some oher device. "Your power manifold us underpowered, it really needs more juice."
She knelt down and lay flat on her back to peer under the device. "This looks good," she said, "though I would not use this kind of power converter. Perhaps install one a tad larger, so that the power will be more evenly distributed over the cloaking device."
<Kahlan>
T'Shan got back to her feet and looked at her chronometer. "Oh my, I have to dash or I will miss lunch. Kahlan, call me when you need further assistance. I will endeavour to be back in about an hour to provide futher assistance if needed." With that, she dashed out of the room.
