ooc, well it would appear that i have some work to do.
IC:
Leo had recently left the Mercy's room, a smile still on his rather young face. It had been a long time since he had the oppurtunity to play with a child, and spending the few moments with D'Beren had been a pleasure for him. Leo knew it wasn't a good idea to allow his work interfere with his personal life, but what can you do when a child wants to tug on your sleeve and then run behind his mom. With a gentle sigh returned to the current state of mind he was in, that of which he was about to go and speak with Priest Kale and question him about the farmers.
Rounding the final corner, Leo looked upon the doors of the Debrune Elder. Pressing the door chime, he waited patiently for a few moments, then pressed the chime again. Leo thought for a brief moment he was being blown off, and since he wasnt really in that much a rush that he absolutely needed to speak with High Priest Kale, he left and was about to turn down the corrider towards his office when remembered he wanted to speak with Doctor Mercy, Stuart that is. Leaisurly walking down the corridors, he nodded at a few officers that walked by stopped at the Mercy's door.
Pressing the chime he waited until Ji'zhan opened the door again, "sorry to bother you again, but I remember i wanted to talk to Stuart about the Klingons on board. If he is available that is"
<tag Mercy's and Ji'zhan>
~~~~~
Leo awoke from an early bed time to hear his door chime repeatedly being pressed, "I'm coming" Leo finally said after rolling out from his warm and comfortable bed, pulling on a pair of pants, Leo rubbed his eyes and answered his door, sergeant-major Linda Mersadie was standing at his door, looking as if she just ran from the office. "what is it sgt?" Leo asked, leaning against the door frame to keep his balance. "Admiral Lin been abducted!" She said urgently. Leo's eyes bulged and he quickly grabbed a shirt, not a uniform shirt however, and rushed out the door. "I want you and sergeant Landis and Corporal Arland to go to the Mercy's and provide protection, tell them what happened, and dont leave their sight" With a nodd the sergeant-major turned down a different hallway, leaving Leo to rush down the empty corridor alone. "Computer, where was Admiral Lin's last known location?"
"Admiral Lin was last known to be in his quarters" Leo bolted down the hall, stopping at the admiral's door, quickly pressing the chime, for whatever reasoning Leo had. "computer, security override, Denart Alpha Gamma 9" The admiral's door opened and Leo stepped in "lights" Leo said, and blinked as the the lights illuminated the empty room. Leo stood in the middle of Lin's room, with a pair of pajama pants and a hawaiian t-shirt on, looking for any signs.
After he and Ezdreiana split up, Saarok withdrew his scanning device which was a modified version of the standard tricoder that had a few extra options built in.
He started scanning as he was walking through the corridor. Everything seemed to be clear so far... perhaps even to clear. As he resumed his search he entered all the rooms he found on his journey but each one was clean as if someone informed the occupants to clean everything and remove anything sensitive.
For, someone was coming to search the place. He resumed his search entering the next room which was also surprisingly empty. It appears this side of the building was vacant, Saarok thought as he moved on.
Upon finishing his search he found absolutely nothing suspicious in the entire part of the house, which was highly unusual and did not kill that tiny voice in Saarok's head that was going of saying danger, danger. He proceeded back to the living are to wait for Ezdreiana return and perhaps some news on her discoveries.
=^= Major Denart to High Priest Kale, please see me at my office=^= Leo said after searching Lin's room and finding nothing. =^= Leo to Charlie Team, report to Admiral's Lin's room and scan for anything and everything=^= Leo went back to his room, where he changed into his work uniform and then walked back to the Mercy's place. Pressing the door chime, he waited until one of his marine's answered the door. Stepping the aside the marine allowed Leo to enter and he walked over to Stuart. "Are you two alright?" He asked, not even looking at the doctor, but rather at the boy.
"I've asked the high priest to come to my office, i would like one of you there while i question him, you seem to know more about him as a person than i do" Leo stated now finally looking at the pair of doctors.
High Priest Kale was unaccostomed to being summoned in such a manner and so took awhile to prepare himself and arrive at the Security office.
He entered and looked about him. A Marine Major sat at the main desk,
"High Priest come in take a seat"
"What is this all about" the Priest grumbled
"All in good time We shall begin once the others arrive, now please sit"
Kale scowled but did as he was told.
***
Magellan paced the small cell. He knew he was aboard a ship by the gentle hum of an engine. An engine he assumed was at warp. Magellan paused, he could hear movement, his was obviously not the only cell and he was not alone.
"Hello is anyone there" he tentativly called, there was no reply, "Hello"
There was a shuffle and then the sound of feet approaching. Into view came a Vulcan woman. She was dressed in a tightfitting navy blue body suit with a utility belt bearing a knife and a disruptor.
"Your awake then" she said quietly
"Who are you? What am I doing here.."Magellan paused staring at the woman, "Hang on I know you"
"As well you should Admiral"
"Your V'Shal, Saaroks ex-wife"
A flicker of a smile crossed her face,
"How is my husband?"
"Well." Magellan replied non-commitedly, "I take it you were hired by someone to kidnap me."
"Yes" V'Shal nodded, "I ve been instructed to not harm you and take you to a specific point."
"Isnt this the point where you tell me not to resist or I will get hurt?"
"Whats the point" V'Shal said with a shrug, "You already know it and besides it wont stop you from trying. Get some rest we still have a few hours to go."
Hunched over his cleaning cart, the human cleaner followed the Vulcan into the main room, then knelt down beside the fireplace under the pretense of cleaning it. The Vulcan seemed oblivious to his presence, as of course it wasn't suspicious at all. Cleaners went in and out of rooms throughout the day, making beds and cleaning the rest of the rooms.
Frances Matinée was no different, except he was no ordinary cleaner. He had listened in on the room only minutes ago and knew the Vulcan had used a scanning device. Now, he had to get hold of that device and bring it to his master. As Saarok sat with his back to him sipping from a drink he had poured himself, and had never noticed him entering the room in the first place, Frances had all the opportunity he needed. With one swift movement, he struck the Vulcan on the back of his head with one of his heavier cleaning tools.
Of course, he didn't want the Vulcan injured in his fall so he dropped the spade and caught the man before his head could strike the glass table as he fell forward.
Carefully, he eased the unconscious diplomat onto the couch and swiftly searched through his clothing. Having found the scanning device hidden between his robes, Frances moved off to send the device over to his boss. Then he moved back into the room, putting on a stricken face as easily as a trained actor would have.
He shook Saarok, trying hard to wake him. "Monsigneur!" he cried, "please, wake up. I saw you fall..." He picked up the glass that had fallen over and sniffed it. "Poison," he cried, looking even more stricken. "Oh monsigneur, I'll be in trouble for not having checked your drinks." Of course, he had slipped a trace of a fairly harmless poison into the remains of the drink, so that it would appear Saarok had been poisoned. And he had made certain a similar trace would be found in the Vulcan's bloodstream. "Are you all right monsigneur?"
Wide-eyed, Frances gazed towards the door as a Trill female entered, striding as regally as a queen would. "Madame, please call a doctor. C'est poison...he's been poisoned. I saw him fall only a minute ago."
Like Saarok, Ezdrieana was positive that something wasn't right. In fact, she wasn't surprise to find that she was unable to locate any listening device. Everyone knew that both Saarok and her had worked in Starfleet Intelligence and were prepared for them. Ezdreiana finished her scans and walked towards the middle of the house when she heard some commotion.
"Madame, please call a doctor. C'est poison...he's been poisoned. I saw him fall only a minute ago."
Ezdreiana so badly wanted to rush towards Saarok, but she knew better. She could clearly see that he wasn't dead and would come to soon enough.
"You please get up and sit on the couch," Ezdreiana said now pointing her phaser at the cleaner," if you move I'll be forced to kill you."
(Cleaner)
"Saarok are you alright?" Ezdreiana said as she got near the Vulcan, but making sure to keep the cleaner in her sight. He might very well be innocent, but her current state of mind didn't allow her to take any chances.
(Saarok)
She didn't understand much and knew that he would need some medical attention.
"You activate the communications console over there an contact security and a medical team," Ezdreiana said to the cleaner.
T'Val Are you two alright?" He asked, not even looking at the doctor, but rather at the boy.
D'beren looked up at the marine and giggled, then hid his face in his mother's skirt. T'Val nodded. "Yes Major, we are all right. Any sign of Magellan's whereabouts yet?"
Denart didn't seem to hear the latter question, as he kept staring at their son.
"I've asked the high priest to come to my office, i would like one of you there while i question him, you seem to know more about him as a person than i do" Leo stated now finally looking at the pair of doctors.
T'Val exchanged a worried glance with her husband. "I do not desire to meet with High Priest Kale," she whispered, her voice shaking ever so slightly, "he frightens me with his attitude. He may take my son with me because it pleases him. I do not trust him."
(Mercy)
Frances
Frances did as he was told when the Trill pointed her weapon at him and he sat as still as a statue on the opposite couch, until she told him to move.
"Oui madame," Frances answered and moved over to the console. He tapped a few controls, chanced a glance over his shoulder and saw the Trill still had her weapon trained on him, even when her attention appeared to be on the Vulcan.
"C'est Frances," Frances spoke quietly to the computer, "je veux un team d'medique. Oui, l'ambassadeur Vulcanique. Il est..." His voice dropped to a whisper as he explained what happened. A minute later, he turned to Ezdreiana. "A medical team is on its way," he reported dutifully, "and a security team as well." Of course, both teams would be sent by his boss, and they would clear him in any way if they found flaws in his actions.
There would, however be no flaws as Frances was the best in his trade. The Vulcan would recover as the poison was harmless, even for a Vulcan and all he would have from the blow to his head would be a headache.
"Anything I can do to ease his pain?" Frances asked quietly, as he approached Saarok's prone form, appearing wary now of the Trill's weapon on him.
As soon as Stuart had gotten dressed another chime announced a new presence at their residence. Stuart was just walking out of the bedroom when T’Val had already let in the newcomer. It was the new base security chief, a marine major.
"Are you two alright?" He asked, not even looking at the doctor, but rather at the boy.
T'Val nodded. "Yes Major, we are all right. Any sign of Magellan's whereabouts yet?"
Denart didn't seem to hear the latter question, as he kept staring at their son.
"I've asked the high priest to come to my office, i would like one of you there while i question him, you seem to know more about him as a person than i do" Leo stated now finally looking at the pair of doctors.
T'Val exchanged a worried glance with her husband. "I do not desire to meet with High Priest Kale," she whispered, her voice shaking ever so slightly, "he frightens me with his attitude. He may take my son with me because it pleases him. I do not trust him."
Stuart embraced his wife by her shoulders for comfort. “I’ll go. I want to see what he has to say anyways. Nothing has been the same since his arrival with the others, and now the Admiral…gone?”
Major Denart took his leave with Stuart’s assurance he would be at the security chief’s office within a few minutes. Stuart looked around the room and realized how disconcerting it was to have a couple of security officer here within their residence. He focused his attention back to T’Val. “The two of you will be safe here.” With a kiss to her forehead Stuart made his departure.
While traversing the starbase Stuart noticed how everything was at high alert with security people at every corner. Not all of the civilians had received word yet on what had happened, so everyone was in a high state of alert. It didn’t take Stuart long to finally arrive at the Major’s office.
Stuart entered between two more security men and noted that the High Priest was already there. The High Priest gave him a look of wonderment trying to figure out why they were all here. Stuart remained standing while waiting for Major Denart to begin.
"Please have a sit Doctor" Leo said, with his back turned to the two members in his office, he slowly turned around, with his hands near his face, fingers pressed together, he looked from one to the other. "What is the meaning of this?" High Priest Kale blurted out, obviously enraged about the proceedings. Leo simply looked at him until the man calmed down and started to squirm in his chair. "What do you know about the abduction of Admiral Lin?" Leo asked, looking first at Priest Kale, then at Stuart, who was watching the priest beside him.
<tag Kale>
Not fully interested in what the priest had to say, he continued with his questions "Tell me, why have you brought two farmers to this star base?" Leo waited for a response, and when he got one he was not happy. " do not lie to me High Priest. what reason are the two farmers aboard this star base?" Leo again waited until he got an answer, then continued once again. "What do you know of the Mercy's adopted son? and why were these asteroid farmers visiting with the Mercys?"
"if i were you i would the Doctors about that" Leo slammed his hand on his desk, stopped the High Priest from speaking further. "I did not ask them, i asked you" Leo was obviously trying hard to keep his act up, knowing full well the High Priest was not used to be treated like this, he hoped Stuart would be able to pick something up.
<tag Kale.>
"That is all, for now" Leo said, excusing the High Priest to go about his business. When his office doors closed, Leo looked at the Doctor. "Well? anything different i should know about?"
"What?" Kale said in confusion, "Admiral Lin... Hes missing? I can assure you I know nothing of this." Kale was bewildered by this line of enquiry. The Major then suddenly changed topic confusing him even more.
"Ermm What the farmers.. You mean S'lar and Dror. They are just that. Farmers. Why can they not be allowed the base. They have broken no laws."
The Major seemed to ignore his complaints and fired another round of questions at him.
"Why should I be responisble for who visits the Mercys. And I find your question insulting. I am the High Priest their child is the Divine Holy Child. This over reaction makes me even more convinced the child is not best placed with them. When T Val was married to a romulan, we could respect that. He was vulcanoid, one of our brethren, but now she is wed to a Human. The divine childs purity is risked. You have just made my mind up Major. Expect formal contact from our government later today."
He rose and bid them good bye leaving the major and the doctors alone.
Stuart watched in dismay as High Priest Kale left. He had no idea what he was going to say to T’Val, she was going to be devastated. He turned his attention to the Major behind the desk.
Leo looked at the Doctor. "Well, anything different I should know about?"
“Yes…there is.” Stuart closed his eyes for composure. He wanted to scream and yell, but he knew that wouldn’t get him anywhere. Instead, he opened his tearful eyes and simply stated, “I fear you have just caused us custody of our child…good day.” With tears streaking down his cheeks, Stuart left the major to himself.
Barely 10 minutes passed before Tedak returned producing with a flourish an identity card.
"I ll not ask where you got that" Vebn asked,
"Best not. Plausible deniability and all." Tedak grinned, "Its nice to see my skills have not diminished in all these years. Shall we"
The two entered the great Senate building and filtered into the crowds. They avoided the main concourse and kept to the lower secutiry areas.
"The library maybe best" Tedak suggested, "Your right. We'll wait until the Senate is in session and head up."
They hovered around a cafe waiting for the next session to begin. They noticed many senators and officials they knew and had to constantly keep on their guard, ducking and diving out of the way. Eventually the halls began to become quieter. The Senators had all entered the senate hall and only aides and other officials remained.
"Okay lets go" Tedak suggested.
The library was a fine affair with both terminals, books and scrolls. Allegedly the greatest collection of knowledge on all of Romulus. Vebn and Tedak took a seat in a discreet section and swiped the card though the reader.
"We're in." Tedak noted, "Give me a moment and I ll comm my allies." Vebn quickly keyed in an address but there was no response. He tried a second and a face appeared on the screen.
"Vebn." The man said "Its been a long time."
"It has indeed Galon" Vebn replied, "I fear I need your help."
"Ill do what I can"
"I m on Romulus"
"Romulus! Where"
"The senate library at the moment, but we wont be here long. I need to know if my enemies have moved against me."
Galon shook his head "I dont thinks so. I ve not seen Saalak around for awhile but hes not made an obvious moves."
Vebn sighed "I think he is up to something. I think he has my daughter"
"Oh I am so sorry" Galon replied, "If he has then she is almost certainly dead by now."
"I know. Thankyou Galon. I ll be in touch we may need you again"
He keyed of the comm and visibly sagged.
"I m sorry" Tedak offered, "But there is still hope."
"Maybe" Vebn admitted, "I guess its time for me to go home perhaps entice them out."
The two romulans quickly exited the Library and left the senate. As they left the building and began to cross the concourse. A skimmer pulled up. Before either could respond Tedak and Vebn were grabbed and bundled into it. The skimmer sped of at speed. Strong arms held them down. 4 Remans held them ensuring neither could move of struggle.
"Whats going on" Vebn attempted but was silenced with a punch.
The skimmer must have travelled for perhaps 30 minutes before it slowed to the stop within a garage. They could hear several voices outside some of them raised. Then they were shoved out.
"I demand to know whats going on"
"Silence" a woman said slapping Vebn across the cheek. She led the pair of them to a room that must once have been a store room.
"In " She demanded
The Remans shoved them in.
"We'll decide what to do about you later" she scowled and slammed the door shut, locking it.
"Great" muttered Tedak
"Great indeed. At least now I know she is safe"
"I m sorry?" Tedak asked unsure how he could possibly know that.
"I know my daughter is safe because that was my daughter"
Stuart walked back towards his quarters. He had quelled the tears in his eyes as he was thinking about how fond he was of D'Beren. How much he had grown to love this boy in such a short time. Stuart was more distraught over knowing how T'Val would feel about all of this...the possibility that D'Beren was going to be taken away from them.
After what seemed to take forever, Stuart had finally reached his home. The two guards outside of his door recognized him but remained alert awaiting a response from Lily's voice recognition program. The door swished open after he was cleared for entry. Two more guards were still present within their home and Stuart quietly steered away from them heading for the kitchen where T'Val loved to cook.
T'Val appeared from the bedroom and followed Stuart to the kitchen. Stuart was just leaning against the counter with his head down, he could not look at her face to face as she came closer towards him. ~I'm sorry!~ His emotione were so strong that he knew T'Val would 'hear' his thoughts. ~I think they have come to take D'Beren from us. I am really sorry.~
Stuart finally looked at T'Val whos eyes were now welled up with tears as well. She remained silent for the moment as Stuart embraced her almost vowing to never let go...never!
The moment she saw her bondmate, T'Val knew something was terribly wrong. She had never seen Stuart this disdraught before and knew it would take quite a bit for him to even show this much sadness. When he looked up at her, she noticed the redness around his eyes; a telltale clue that he'd been crying earlier.
~I think they have come to take D'Beren from us. I am really sorry.~ The raw emotion that came with the thought hit T'Val to the core of her very being and she reeled from it.
"Who has come to take him?" she managed, as he took her in a very tight embrace. However, she didn't need him to answer the question, for she had known all along. "What happened?" she finally asked, squirming away from his embrace.
She listened in silence as Stuart told her what had happened in Denart's office and paled. "He cannot do that," she breathed, "he cannot take D'beren from us. He cannot just turn back a legal adoption after three years, an adoption that was supported by the Debrune Elders, specifically Elder Jak'Dor." Her panic was evident, and so strong that even Yade came winging in, screaming at the top of her lungs, batting her wings at Stuart in distress.
The Vulcan tried to contain her pet, finally grabbing her by both her wings and constricting the creature to her chest. "Quiet," she told the little green, though it came out more as a sob than a word. "I need to be alone," she finally told her mate, "please leave me alone."
Of course, she couldn't blame him for this, he'd done nothing wrong. She sensed that he'd done his best for them both, and that he blamed the marine major for this. Oh, the major was to blame. If indeed he had cost them their only child...T'Val screamed in fury and frustration as she sank to the floor, causing the marines to come running in with their weapons drawn.
The marines found the Vulcan woman in clear distress and they looked at eachother in confusion. Usually, for a Vulcan to show emotion, this could mean only one thing. Yet, they both knew this wasn't the case, hence their initial confusion. "Ma'am, are you all right?" the youngest of the two asked gently, as he knelt down beside the stricken woman.
Yade screeched in T'Val's grip and finally managed to claw her way out, then went for the helpful marine. His wiser partner keyed his phase pistol for the lightest stun setting available and smartly stunned the flying creature. Then he turned to Stuart. "Perhaps it is best if you give her something to calm down sir," he suggested calmly, "and then you can tell us what got her so worked up. With all due respect, she was fine before you got home. Playing with the boy before putting him to bed."
The Romulan sat stunned, staring pointedly at his companion. "You mean that lovely woman was your daughter? The one with the striking appearance and lovely.." He fell silent, feeling it inappropriate to comment on the diplomat's daughter in their current situation, if ever appropriate at all.
"Why would she do this?" he wondered aloud, "surely she would know that if she were in trouble you would come to find her? And as such, she could've let you know she was all right and not abducted at all?"
Tedak sat down on one of the crates, started at the creaking sound and yelped in surprise when he sagged through the apparently rotten wood. "Great," he muttered as he struggled back to his feet and simply sat down on the cold floor. He crossed his legs, leaned his elbows on his knees, and then leaned his chin on his folded hands. For several minutes, the younger Romulan was silent, appearing to be in deep thought.
"What if," he started, then shook his head in dismay, chiding himself for even thinking it. He felt Vebn's cold stare on him and looked up in response. The older man's eyes sparkled in the semi-darkness and Tedak held his breath for several seconds in response. Apparently, Vebn was eager to hear what he had come up with, for he stood with his arms crossed over his chest, waiting impatiently. "What if she was abducted," Tedak started, "and she is now suffering from the Stockholm syndrome? Believing her captor is right and you are wrong? They could have somehow turned her against you, meaning we have to win her back to our side again, somehow."
Stuart couldn't believe the audacity of the marine. "How dare you accuse me of being the cause of distress to my own wife? I will give her something to calm down with, and then we are going to retreat to our bedroom for privacy. Feel free to shoot me as well, if you insist on my answering your questions, because I won't."
The marine looked at his partner who in turn just shrugged his shoulders. "Go ahead, doctor." The two marines returned to their previous positions around the living room. Stuart overheard the second one speaking to his partner. "You idiot...just wait and see when you have to go to the infirmary...just wait."
Stuart pretended not to hear as he gave T'Val a sedative and accompanied her to the bedroom. He knew they wouldn't be able to sleep, but there was nothing they were going to get accomplished at this late hour.
Magellan remained alone in his cell for who knew how long. It could have been hours possibly even a day all he knew was that he was in trouble.
V'shal was a formidable opponent and he knew that whoever had hired her would be paying a lot. He tried to think why he had been seized and could come up with half a dozen. You didnt get to be an Admiral without making some enemies on the way.
He was starting to get hungry when V'Shal next appeared she stood in the doorway a moment until he noticed her,
"We're here" she stated blandly. She pulled out a disruptor pistol and lowered the forcefield, "Out" she commanded.
"And if I don't?"
V'Shal shrugged, "I ll sell you to Orion slavers. But trust me my employers want you safe and assure me you are to be released once they have spoken to you"
Curious Magellan didnt probe further but dryly replied, "See thats the problem...I dont trust you. I m sure my new security chief is hot on your trail. Its just a matter of time."
V'Shal smiled, "Ah Major Denart... yes he does have a reputation for action. But dont worry we have a big enough head start."
She led Magellan through the ship. Which seemed to be an old merchantman. But by the looks of the power conduits it had been heavily refitted, no doubt to V'shals exacting and deadly specifications. As they passed a viewport he noticed that they were in orbit of a bright orange cloudy planet.
V'shal showed Magellan to a transporter pad and tossed him a breather mask.
"You ll need this she said." attaching her own mask in place.
As he took his place beside her wondering if he should make a grab for her weapon in the confined space but she was no doubt stronger and faster than him and besdies curiosity was starting to get the better of him.
The two of them disappeared in a haze of light. They rematerialised within a building. It was stiflingly hot and there was a hazy almost foggy quality to the air. No doubt noxious to Vulcans and Trill.
"Ah here is my employer" V'shal stated, her voice sounding tinny in the mask and pointing across the room where a door opened letting a shaft of light flood into the room. The visitor skittered over to them
...Thankyou V'Shal and welcome to Aenvolis Admiral Magellan" Ambassador Kaskrene greeted.
If that cleaner thought he would get away with such an obviously false story of him loosing consciousness because of some poison in his drink... he was going to have to think again. Saarok shrugged of the medic that was trying to tend to his wounds. His head ached but it was nothing he could not take. He searched his robe and could not find his scanner so instead he pulled out his phaser, and pointed it at the medic who was standing near him.
"Enough games gentlemen", Saarok said, "Either the two of you are going to start talking... or", he said as he adjusted the settings on his phaser and shot the medic in the leg who in turn screamed in pain, "This will seem to you like a slight tickle", he said
After a few moments the medic was recovered and was back on his feet as if nothing happened, apparently the weapon the Vulcan shot him with was not leaving any permanent damage.
"Now gentlemen... are you going to start talking or do we need to move on to more... damaging methods?", Saarok questioned
“Yes…there is.” Stuart closed his eyes for composure. He wanted to scream and yell, but he knew that wouldn’t get him anywhere. Instead, he opened his tearful eyes and simply stated, “I fear you have just caused us custody of our child…good day.” With tears streaking down his cheeks, Stuart left the major to himself.
Leo was shocked, he had no idea what had just happened. He thought he was helping the doctors, but appearently he was wrong. Leo sat in his chair for a few minutes trying to figure out where he had gone wrong. He finally decided that it was probably best to leave the High Priest out of any further investigations for the time being. He was about to get up and look over the records of any ships in the area that might have taken the admiral, when he received a message from the marines standing guard over the Mercy's.
"Sir, we were standing guard outside of the main room when we heard Doctor T'val collaspe to the floor, emotionally stricken. I know its not normal for her people to do that. We have let the mercy's retire for the night" Leo nodded to himself as he listend, he knew that Stuart probably blamed him for all that had happened, and he didnt know what else to do. "Leave one guard on duty, the rest of you get back to your normal duties" Leo said, pushing away from his desk.
"I've gotta fix this" Leo said, "but I also need to figure out a way to find the admiral. Firsts things first, gotta find the admiral" He decided and went over to the PADD he had downloaded the flight schedule on. All ships on the PADD had up to date authorization codes, their flight patterns looked good, and everything about them seemed to be in order. "who ever took him, probably left in a hurry" Bringing up the scanners, he changed the perameters to scan for warp signatures, and then for warp trails. Only one warp signature didnt match with any ships on the PADD, Leo knew there was more but needed to work on what he had found.
Leo slammed his hand down on his desk, tossing over piles of PADDs he had stacked up, "dammit" he said as he leaned over to pick up the PADDs, unable to concentrate on just one thing, Leo finally realized he had reached the point in his career where he might not make everything right, and he was scared of it. He sat down in his chair again and breathed deep breaths.
Frances and the medic exchanged worried glances.
"Je suis desole Monsieur" Frances said "But I am afraid our orders were quite specific. Observation only."
Saarok indicated the bruise on the back of his,
"You call this observation only... Youhave already broken that rule logically you may now continue lest myself and Ezedriana here have to become more persuasive."
The mdeic shrugged at Frances who took a step forward and reached for his belt,
"Easy" Saarok warned
Frances pulled out an ID card and handed it over to Saarok took it and frowned before passing it to Ezedriana.
"Presidential Security? Why would you be investigating us?"
"We are investigating all the delegates to the conference. There are a lot of important people coming."
"So why the attack on me"
"You two were the first ones to act suspiciously. You carried concealed weapons. You met with a known troublemaker. On arrival you began a reconnaissance sweep of the building and used a scanner. We wanted to check what you were recording"
"You could have asked us" Ezedriana noted
Frances shook his head, "We would hardly be covert operatives if we spoke to everyone."
"Well your clumsyness already makes you hardly a covert operative" Saarok scoffed,
"Hang on a moment" Ezedriana said "You said meeting a known troublemaker, we havent met anyone."
FRances looked confused, "The man who just left"
"Semani?"
"If thats the name he gave you then yes. We know him as Gark Tolis. Hes been off the radar for awhile."
"Whats his angle?" Ezedriana,
"Hes connected to a lot of high profile businessmen and politicians. Hes not got a long wrap sheet because we've never been able to pin anything on him but hes linked with a Pro-Vulcan Party that is emerging. Now is that all or can we get on with our work theres a lot of other delegates to see to before tomorrow morning."
The sedative calmed her down eventually, but sleep was one thing T'Val could not. She had been crying quietly for the past hour while lying in Stuart's arms. He was holding on to her as though he had to protect her, and from an adjacent room, D'beren too stirred in his sleep, mirrorring his mother's restlessness.
At last, the boy sat up in bed, eyes wide with fright and he bolted from his room. "Daddy!" he cried, jumping in bed with his parents, hiding under the blankets.
T'Val looked up through tear-stained eyes, mirrorring her son's fear. She didn't understand, she just didn't understand. Why would they want to ruin the only home the boy had ever known? Something was going on and she was certain it involved the two Silasi.
She gazed up at Stuart as he tried to calm the boy down. "Perhaps Ji'Zhan can help keeping him calm," she whispered, "D'beren is full Debrune, I am not. For some reason he feels what I feel. And he feels my fear of losing him. Stuart are we going to lose our son? What am I going to tell Tedak if we do? He will never forgive me..." She trailed off, pulling D'beren into her arms.
T'Val settled back in her pillows, cradling her now at last sleeping son and sighed. "I am sure Major Denart did what he thought was best and was only trying to help...but still I feel we should inform his superiors about this. This was not his decision to make, and I will fight for my son. I raised him. Me, not those two farmers. I nursed him when he was sick, I told him stories when he could not sleep. I consoled him when he was crying." She and Tedak both, and lately just her and Stuart as Tedak was often away on missions. Tears flowed down her cheeks again, and she was glad the marines could not see her. She had sensed their surprise when they'd seen her cry earlier, and it wouldn't do to unsettle them any further. They had work to do: protect the Mercy's against those who may want them harmed.
He listened to her words mixed in with her sobs. "The Major did his job, dear. He is not the cause of what may come. I have a feeling it's what Priest Kale has been wanting all along. Why else would he have brought those two Silasi unannounced the way he did?"
Stuart spent the next few moments remembering that T'Val couldn't have any children because of some unknown circumstances that had caused her to remain barren. He swore that he would look into it further. Stuart didn't want to lose D'Beren either, but he also wanted nothing more than to be able to conceive a child with T'Val.
As Ezdreiana saw the medic scream in pain, Ezdreiana realized that Saarok was truly a trigger happy Vulcan. She wouldn't hesitate to use her weapon, but she would give it a seconds thought. Saarok on the other hand did not.
The explanation that they were both receiving was idiotic at best. Everyone who needed to know knew that Ezdreiana and Saarok would bring weapons with them. Everyone knew that they didn't want to be here.
"He's connected to a lot of high profile businessmen and politicians. Hes not got a long wrap sheet because we've never been able to pin anything on him but hes linked with a Pro-Vulcan Party that is emerging. Now is that all or can we get on with our work theres a lot of other delegates to see to before tomorrow morning."
"Yes you can leave now," Ezdreiana replied," and please try not to hurt anymore of the delegates."
She waited until they had all left to speak again. She didn't trust their explanation totally. It just didn't sound right to her. They were both high profile delegates, but she was positive that there were more interesting people at this conference.
"I hope you didn't believe anything they said," Ezdreiana said as she ordered herself a calming tea.
"Its possible I suppose" Vebn replied to Tedak, "But I would hope my daughter is made of sterner stuff."
Tedak rolled his eyes unwilling to challenge Vebn on such a matter.
"Either way we are stuck here...hush someones coming."
The door opened and an older Romulan stepped into the room. He was dressed in senatorial robes and looked vaguely familiar to Tedak.
"Well well well Vebn S'Khellian. I never expected you to drop so neatly into my lap."
"Well I hardly dropped in Saalak" Vebn replied bitterly,
"No but its certainly a gift. You sneaked on to Romulus very few people know you are here it wouldnt take much for you to just disappear."
"Well people would notice me not being around" Tedak replied squaring up to the man, assessing if he could get a jump on him but quickly noting the pair of Remans in the background.
"Ah yes Tedak... no people would notice your disappearance its true. But most in the senate would thank me. Many of your actions have angered them even the Emperor is not that enchanted with the way you put people outside of our race ahead of your own. Its ironic"
"What is?"
Saalak paced aroun Tedak,
"Your loyalties and ideas are somewhat in alliance with mine in many ways. You appreciate the value of the Vulcans, our brethren much more so than many of our kind. Me and my people have worked underground for years to bring about closer ties."
"Your a unificationist!!"
Saalak laughed, "You sound shocked. Can we not imprison those that threaten us. Its families like the S'Khellians that stand in the way of real progress."
Vebn scowled,
"Thats not true" he spat, "You know as well as I the true nature of our dispute. A sour land deal our grandfathers made. Were it not for that we would be allies."
Saalak shrugged, "Perhaps but your views and ideas are slow. We stand at a point where the Rommo-Vulcanoid Race have never stood so close to unity. At a point where we would be the dominant force in the galaxy, a galaxy run efficiently and in peace"
Vebn waved a hand at him, "Rubbish, that time is long off. We both know even with Spocks help the movement is small. Too many of the old families need to change and the Federation would be highly suspicous of any Vulcan/Romulan alliance."
Again Saalak laughed, "Being on that starbase has kept you out the loop, our time is rising but unfortunatly you wont be around to see it. Your accident will stop that before then. Right I ll leave you to your last hours. Good night gentlemen."
"Hang on what about Salina" Vebn asked,
"Your daughter!" Saalak said in surprise, "We'll deal with her if and when the need arises."
Saalak retreated from the room and the door shut and was bolted.
"Okay we need to get out of here and we have to find Salina"
"Indeed," Tedak remarked, as he walked around the cargobay and randomly started opening the containers. "We need to get out of here, before that one comes back." He paused his scavenging to meet Vebn's gaze. "We may neither trust nor like each other, but I will tell you one thing. You and your family do not stand in the way of Rihan's progress. Don't let that goon convince you otherwise."
He peered into a container and fished out an object, then carelessly tossed it away over his shoulder. He ducked as a loud bang resounded through the hold and he covered his ears as the sound painfully assaulted his sensitive ears. "Right," he murmured as he carefully shoved the container aside, "this may be of help."
He returned his attention to the older Romulan. "The Unificationists are long way from reuniting Romulus with Vulcan. They are hidden away, underground. It is people like you and I that can do more good for this cause. Not to reunite our peoples, but at least create a peaceful co-existance from which all parties can benefit." Tedak ran his hands through his hair, then dove into another container and retrieved a small, flat but round object. Carefully he ran his thumb past the edge, then stared at the thin stripe of green blood that appeared. "Interesting." He tucked the object in a pocket of his robe, then fished out another three, handing two to Vebn.
"Explosives, killer discus, what more do we need? I'd say it's time we get out of here, before another of those bangs attract attention, what do you think?"
At Vebn's curt nod, Tedak tossed another object from the first container at the door. It too three before the door blew out, and the two Romulans hurried out. "What is our best bet of finding your daughter?" Tedak asked as they ran for their lives. "Or rather: where?"
