OOC: This consitutes the set up post for the next mission. Those wanting to carry straight on may post on this thread but proper start will not begin until next week. Time frame wise this is 4-5 days after the events of the last mission.Slowly focus returned and as it did so the somewhat blissful state of unconsciousness gave way to the throbbing pain and the hundreds of nerve impulses that told his brain that harm had been done. His mouth felt parched and yet he could taste a mix of salt and metal. He swallowed hard and summoned up some saliva. Crouched on his knees his head bowed he spat on to the metal floor only inches before his face as. It splattered with sharp slap and he noted the tint of red that flecked the white spittle.
Stiffening to perch upright on his knees he was instantly aware that his arms were still bound, funny how such a restriction was only now apparent. The bonds were secure. Metal he noted. Handcuffs. Rocking back on to his heels he sat heavily. He twisted and pulled his arms, cuffed at the wrists, under himself and over his legs. He now sat cross legged his hands in front of him. He peered at the cuffs. They were magnetically sealed. A flashing indicator light suggested a more sinister dual purpose. He suspected any attempt to remove the cuffs would result in the amputation of his hands by micro explosives.
It was obvious that for the time being at least he wasn’t going anywhere. Struggling to gain his feet he began a very short-lived but thorough exploration of the room he was in. It was perhaps 9ft square and completely featureless. Walls, ceiling and floor were all monotone silver metal. An opening was blocked by a shimmering force field. It appeared to have no set energy pattern, no distinctive bars, just the faint distortion of light like heat haze on tarmac in the desert. It was an apt analogy for the ship was unusually warm. He knew he was aboard a ship by the gentle hum of an engine. An engine he assumed was at warp. Magellan paused, he could hear movement, his was obviously not the only cell and he was not alone.3 days earlier…Starbase Assailant wasn’t the safest of places to be at the moment. The Colonial War had stepped up a gear and the Federation sat precariously neutral. The collapsed peace talks had ended any short term hope for resolution. Magellan seriously believed however that the Klingons didn’t want peace it had been a long time since the Dominion War and the Houses were restless and the clandestine actions of the Tholians was all the excuse they needed. A small fleet of Vorcha, Negh’Var and Bird of Prey sat outside the station her crews enjoying the recreational facilities Assailant had to offer. Assailant like 47, Conqueror and Bellicose had become a way station for the Klingon fleet as it moved to the frontlines on the Tholian border and as an R and R facility as they retired from the front. Deadlock was the current state of affairs. The Klingon’s had currently found and destroyed all Tholian colonies they new of in their own space but Assailants detection grid still noted cloaked Tholian Vessels entering Klingon space so there had to be colonies as yet undiscovered. Several petitions had been made by Korok to allow the Klingons to remove the Tholian colonies in Federation space but so far these requests had all been turned down. Magellan was as usual in Operations the words of the alternate Zoilip still ringing in his ears. He kept reminding himself that alternate and future were malleable things, where Zoilip had come from was not necessarily be the same time stream as this one, but it might be close enough to come true. He was roused from his thoughts by an incoming call, “It’s from the Office of the President” F’Rass noted with an arched eyebrow. Magellan nodded, “I’ll take it in my office.” As the suited man appeared on screen Magellan took his seat, “What can I do for you?” he asked, “It’s more a case of acting as messenger” the man replied and then began to explain. *** Grey was the over powering theme of the Romulan Embassy. Each of the 16 rooms in the suite that made up the diplomatic centre were each carpeted in thin utilitarian functional grey thread. The walls were beige with a thin green line at waist height. In the entrance lobby Nelon was sat at his desk. He looked up feeling the burning eyes of the imperial eagle watching him from the wall opposite.
Shaking his head he returned to his work, a systematic catalogue of all known Tholian colonies outside of their space. The list was short and Nelon was convinced he was missing perhaps half of the Tholian’s true assets. The deals fostered between the Star Empire and the Assembly whilst clear cut on benefit to both sides were less so regarding reasoning. Nelon understood the various factions operating within the empire, their various agendas each initating a separate approach to the Tholian problem. One side arranging the sale of Cloaks to the Tholians and the other the leaking of the secret colonisation project to the Klingons. In their bid for superiority over the other, the galaxy was beginning to become trapped in between.
“Can I help you?” Nelon asked as a somewhat dishevelled Flaxian entered the Embassy. The Flaxians wrinkled skin was scarred and his short dark hair gathered into an untidy mass that hung down his back. His eyes flickered furtively about the room looking for monitoring devices that even the most capable of Tal Shiar agents would have difficulty discovering.
“Yes I have a delivery”
Nelon frowned at the man; he was most definitely not a standard courier, “Really? Hand it over then”
The Flaxian rummaged in a pocket, Nelon tensed fearing the production of a weapon. His hand slipped under the desk to a button that would raise a personal shield in milliseconds.
The man withdrew a small package. A leather wrapped object bound with a cord. “It is for Ambassador S’Khellian”
“I’ll see that he gets it.” Nelon replied gingerly taking the object and dropping it into a containment vessel beneath the desk, “Is there a messa…” he paused realising that the Flaxian had already departed. Nelon shook his head in mild bewilderment before getting up and taking the parcel into a back room. He subjected it to a range of tests checking for poisons or explosives. Assured the object was what it appeared to be he finally entered the Ambassadors room.
“A Flaxian gentleman just delivered this” Nelon stated passing the object to Vebn. The Ambassador looked up absent mindedly from his work and took the parcel,
“Thank you Nelon. That’s all”
Nelon bowed and left the room. Vebn put down his stylus and unwound the cord. It came free easily and he dropped it on to the desk. Rolling the palm sized object over his hand he removed the thin pliable leather wrapping and then startled dropped its contents on the desk. There the three inch long serpent sat. Gold and silver with inlaid ivory checker marks and diamond eyes it seemed to be charming him so still did he sit.
If the Romulans believed in hell Vebn at that moment felt as if he had been pitched head long into its fiery all consuming depths.*** The small shuttle exited from warp on the far side of Qualinost. It lacked any standard form of transponder and swiftly Debruni security ships rose from the planet to intercept it. A pair of Ch’sar Falcons circled the shuttle whilst the Wing Commander interrogated the pilot. Then satisfied with what they had been told the two small fighters took up escort positions and followed the shuttle into the atmosphere and to the planet below.
Landing pads were cleared and a squad of Silasi stood expectantly on the tarmac waiting for the shuttle to open. Their weapons remained holstered but they still exuded a menacing air. The shuttles side door slide back with a hiss and blinking in the fierce mid day sun the two occupants emerged. Dressed in neat tunics with a thin sash hanging from one shoulder the male and female vulcanoid tentatively approached their welcoming committee.
“Welcome home” the Lieutenant in charge of the Silasi squad greeted,
“Thank you “the man answered, his dark eyes furtively searching those of the Secret Police before him. It had been a long time since he or his wife had dealt with the Silasi.
“I have been instructed by Major R’tarn to take you High Priest Kales sanctum. This way please.”
The two visitors looked warily at each other then held hands and followed the Lieutenant whose men filed into ranks either side of them as they left the shuttle pad and led them down into the underground city.

Tedak had spent the last four days on Qualinost, accompanying Ji'Zhan on his duties while his young son was shown more of his birth-world. The boy gawked about in wonder, seeing so many new structures and people that seemed to revere them.
"Dad?"
There was a tug at his sleeve and the Romulan looked down. "Yes?"
"Dad why are these people bowing to me?"
Raising his eyebrow, Tedak glanced up at Ji'Zhan. "I believe you had better explain that to him Ji'Zhan."
The Debrune nodded and knelt down on one knee before the boy to be at eye-level with him. "You are very important to them my son," he explained, "when you grow older, you will understand. There will be another ceremony that requires your attendance in a few weeks, perhaps then you'll learn more. However you are not to let this worry you too much, you should go about your life as your parents guide you through these periods. For now, why don't you just smile and wave from time to time as any child your age would?"
Pleased with the answer, D'beren did as he was suggested to do and smiled back at the people who bowed down before him, waving a small hand by way of greeting and affection. A light frown creased his forehead, as he still didn't understand the vague answer he'd been given. Even at three years old, D'beren was wiser than most six-year olds, and understood far more than his parents and his uncle gave him credit for.
"Uncle Ji'Zhan?" D'beren now tugged the Debrune's sleeve. "Where are we going?"
Ji'Zhan smiled at his Romulan companion. "Inquisitive little fellow isn't he?"
"Indeed." Now Tedak lowered himself before his son. "You shouldn't ask so many questions now. We're going to another educational insitute, where we will be giving a lecture about interstellar diplomacy. If you're quiet, you can accompany us."
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
After the lecture, the three returned to the landing pad, where a Starfleet shuttle was waiting to take them back to Assaillant. "We will meet again soon," Tedak promised Ji'Zhan, "and we'll discuss arranging more of these lectures. I admit I had...fun, teaching. I would like the opportunity to do this more often, with your permission of course." He paused. "Well, and that of Vebn, since he's in charge. I'll go enquire about the possebility when I get back to my office."
The shuttle took off and several minutes later, Tedak walked down the corridors towards his office, after having dropped D'beren off at his pre-school activities. The Romulan embassy was unusually quiet and Tedak spotted Nelon working quietly at his own desk. "Is Ambassador s'Khellian available?"
Nelon looked up from his work only long enough to acknowledge Tedak's presence. The young Romulan was a loyal subject of the Empire, and still loyal to the former lead diplomat, but also loyal to the new one. And he didn't seem to like it that the interests of the two diplomats seemed to differ in various aspects of their duties. "He is in his office," Nelon answered, "but I'm not sure whether he's in a mood to be disturbed."
"We'll see about that." Tedak saluted the young aide, then stepped into Vebn's office. "Ambassador, could I..." His voice trailed off as he saw Vebn sit at his desk, wearing an expression as though he'd seen a ghost. The Romulan followed his senior's gaze down to the desk and he too froze in horror. "What..." he started, waiting for Vebn to respond. "Who?" he started again, not sure how to continue.

Vebn looked up barely noticing Tedaks presence in the room. His knuckles were white where he gripped the edge of the desk tightly. A flicker of emotion passed over his face and suddenly the Vebn Tedak knew was back. Calm, controlled and acerbic.
“Yes?” he queried acidly
Tedak hovered a moment and then realising that the usual game play was to ensue,
“I came to inform you of a desire of Ji’Zahn to hold a number of lectures on interstellar diplomacy.”
Vebn said nothing, his eyes glazed. Tedak continued,
“It would be a good opportunity for us to understand the view point of the Debrune and help foster better relations.”
“Relations you ruined in the first place” Vebn replied more by rote than by heart.
“Is everything alright?” Tedak asked, not entirely sure if he cared.
Vebn’s eyes leapt to the desk and in a swift action he gathered up the snake ornament and shoved it into the desk drawer,
“I m fine. Everything’s fine. Now what are you here for?”
Tedak sighed and took a seat across the desk from Vebn. He gathered his robes about him and made himself comfortable pleased at the annoyance that flickered across his superiors face as he did so.
“Your distracted”
“Qiuu mnekha” Vebn responded in Romulan carefully selecting the superior to inferior inflection.
Tedak shrugged, indifferent to Vebn’s annoyance. In the 6 months since Vebn had been aboard Assailant this was the first time Tedak had seen a true chink in the mans armour and it wasn’t going to be wasted lightly.
“I recognise a Jhimn when I see one, and as that one was most elaborate the owner must be of some importance.”
A Jhimn was a serpent common on Romulus it was non-venomous and unlike most reptiles mated for life and nurtured its young. It was held by some sects as an oracle of love. Lovers would exchange icons of Jhimn and parents would present their children with them when they came of age.
“This is none of your business” Vebn stated quietly “it is a matter of mnhei'sahe”
“Honour” Tedak scoffed, “What would you know of that”
“More than you.” Vebn volleyed back.
The two diplomats could continue like this for hours on end, trading insult after insult but unexpectedly Vebn stopped,
“I m sorry.” He said to a stunned Tedak, now wary of a trap.
Vebn withdrew the snake statuette from the desk and laid it before Tedak.
“This is my daughters, Ecurai. It has no doubt been sent to me to warn me that my families enemies are making their move against me. I fear that the only way they could have got hold of this was if they already had Ecurai. I have tried to contact the rest of my family in Ramnau but they aren’t answering.”
“Have you contacted the authorities?” Tedak asked,
“I have no way of knowing who House Ehhelih have in their pocket. I m going to have to return home and find out what is happening myself.”

“I have no way of knowing who House Ehhelih have in their pocket. I m going to have to return home and find out what is happening myself.”
With great care, Tedak picked up the small statuette, understanding the value of it. He had never known Vebn had a family and he was very surprised to hear the younger man confess to it now. "I didn't know you had a family," Tedak confessed while carefully turning the Jhimn around and around. He felt Vebn's eyes on him and he could almost sense the anger and anxiety coming from him. "How old is your daughter?"
"Will you permit me to come with you?" he asked after a long silence, "I have a great many friends in high places who could help you." Carefully, placed the snake back on the desk, after having examined it. He could see Vebn was restraining himself, and it was costing him a great deal to remain quiet. "My friends are loyal to the Empress and the Empire," he informed his superior, "and there are quite a few who still owe me a favour or two. I am not asking you to answer immediately, but I can help you and I ask nothing in return."
~nothing but a little trust~ he thought, while keeping his eyes on the younger Romulan. He sat back and waited for Vebn to answer, wondering what he would do if this had happened to him. Except, he already knew the answer for it had already happened once. Romulans had coerced him into co-operation after they had abducted and threatened to kill his adopted son. It had nearly cost him everything except that they hadn't counted on a keen Trill admiral and a Vulcan diplomat who knew a few things about him that few fellow Romulans did. Tedak had a great distaste for any form of weapon other than his personal Honour Blade.
"Who would gain anything by taking your child." Tedak continued, "I had not expected you to have that many enemies. You may be cold and calculating, but your accomplishments speak for themselves." He steeled himself for a verbal and physical attack, quietly ordering his two loyal pets to let Vebn proceed without hinder if he chose to do so. A quiet chirp informed him that the firelizards would obey is command.

Although the Klingons were a proud race, and the fact that their own medical technology was almost up to par as that of Starfleet, more and more Klingon warriors were being treated in Assailant’s infirmary and housed in a hospital wing that was especially cleared just for them. Stuart had taken this suggestion under advisement as Admiral Lin was concerned about their rough behavior disturbing non-Klingon patients.
Stuart was currently busy looking over some charts in his office when T’Val came in. Her presence reminded him that he wanted to discuss a particular issue with her. It had been on his mind ever since the alternate time shift incident, the one that indicated the possibility of the two of them to have their own child.
“How’s it going out there, dear?” Stuart asked as he leaned back on his chair. “Oh, the usual. I have Klingons complaining about our hospital food, among other things.” T’Val sat behind her own desk which had been situated just opposite his where they were directly facing each other. “I know what you mean. Unfortunately there is no telling how long this war is going to be. I’m afraid we’re in it for the long haul.” T’Val gave him a quizzical look. “A long time dear.” Her look was one of satisfaction as she now understood.
“T’Val, I’ve been thinking. Do you remember the time shift? D’Beren mentioned having a brother, Naois. What if that timeline IS possible? What if you CAN have a child? I’d like to do some research with you…with your permission of course, to see if it’s possible. What do you think?” Stuart waited, knowing that deep down T’Val wanted a child of her own more than anything else in the worlds.

Just being among Klingons was exhausting and exhasperating, no matter what T'Val tried to avoid it. They were generally loud, ill-mannered and more importantly, ill-tempered. Especially when she informed them on how long they would be cooped up in sickbay did they become profoundly annoying and rude.
At last, the Vulcan just walked away to leave them simmer in their own annoyances for a while, thereby hoping they wouldn't break down her sickbay. With a sigh, she sat opposite her mate and they exchanged a few pleasantries and the day's news.
“T’Val, I’ve been thinking. Do you remember the time shift? D’Beren mentioned having a brother, Naois. What if that timeline IS possible? What if you CAN have a child? I’d like to do some research with you…with your permission of course, to see if it’s possible. What do you think?”
The Vulcan settled back in her seat, pain crossing her features as she remembered D'beren mention a younger brother. As they hadn't been affected by the time-change, the both of them remembered what had happened, even when those affected did not. "There are always possebilities," she answered, "is that not what the famous Sherlock Holmes said? To be left with the impossible, however improbable that was after you ruled out all the possible."
She fell silent, as she gazed up at her husband. "I would very much like you to look into it," she finally whispered, "whatever it takes, as long as we do not endanger anyone in the process. What do you propose we do?"

Stuart saw the pain upon her face at the mention of her barrenness. Determination set in for his plans. “Well, for starters, complete scans of your reproductive organs. I shall also make requests of any medical files of you from Vulcan, unless you want to request them. They might be more receptive of you anyways, being a Vulcan and all. We can schedule the scans whenever you like, when you’re ready.” T’Val smiled at him, with a small glimmer of hope it seemed.
OOC: Sorry for the shortness, but that’s all I can do for now.

Major R’tarn was accustomed to a wide range of unusual tasks but he was not used to having two members of his own race placed under practically house arrest without evidence. High Priest Kale had not termed it as arrest of course. He had called it protection, but it amounted to the same thing and whilst the quarters assigned the visitors were among the best the city had to offer it was still pretty much a prison.
The couple however seemed unconcerned, they were overwhelmed by the opulence of the state apartments and quite in awe of the High Priests interest in them. They barely noticed the constant presence of two Silasi officers and probably didn’t realise that Major R’tarn watched them regularly through all manner of discrete spying devices.
“Are they what they appear?”
R’tarn jumped, he hadn’t heard the High Priest approach.
“Yes your eminence. Their story checks out so far. They are simple farming folk from one of our outlying hydroponics asteroids”
“As does their DNA or so I am told.” Kale paused and peered at the screen fascinated by the opportunity that had dropped into his lap, “We shall need to arrange transport to Assailant by the end of the day”
“That will not be a problem. Elder Ji’Zahn is taking a shuttle up this afternoon.”
Kales face clouded and he shook his head,
“No we will travel separately. Ji’zahn need not know of this for now. I will inform all of the council at the same time once the truth is established.”
“Very good your eminence.”
“Have a shuttle prepped for this evening and contact the Mercy’s and tell them to expect guests for dinner.”
R’tarn saluted and left the room to make arrangements. Kale remained, starring at the couple oblivious to the complex web of politics they had thrust themselves.

After reviewing the latest intelligence on the growing colonial war Magellan allowed himself a moments rest. He had been working solid around the clock and effort to make amends. He tried to tell himself that the accident had been just that, an unforeseeable. That the Tholians and Klingons would never have arranged a peaceful settlement, that any of this was not his fault. It failed. He felt a tremendous guilt his experiment had prolonged an already savage war in which the term civilian target seemed to mean nothing to either side. His duty now was to try and keep the Federation out of it and try and find a resolution to a puzzle that lacked all the pieces.
His office was a mess. Cups and plates sat on his coffee table and PaDDs had fallen from a pile to scatter across the floor. He was aware of little else outside those four walls. He stooped to retrieve one of the errant PaDDs and suddenly remembered his talk with the presidential office.
=^=Ambassadors Saarok and Ezedreiana, I need to see you =^=
He received a pair of affirmatives and settled back to await their arrival. Ezedriana arrived first and after clearing space on the couch he bade her to sit. They chatted amiably about their shared homeworld until Saarok arrived. He swept in with his usual mix of flair and superiority. There was a man who didn’t seem bothered that his past self during the temporal problem had comfortably killed several of Magellans security staff.
“Admiral. Ambassador.” he greeted with a curt nod to each before he gathered his robes and sat.
“I’ve had a message from the Presidents Office. It seems you’ve both caught their eye, or at least impressed them somewhat. You have been requested to attend a meeting on Betazed”
“Betazed?” Ezedriana asked
“Yes” Magellan confirmed “It looks like their bid will win and the presidency will be moved there.”
“It is illogical to move an established system of government”
“That Saarok, is not our business. You have both been asked to speak at a symposium on intergalactic affairs “
“I see. That’s most irregular” Saarok noted “Is it just us.”
Magellan nodded, “Yes. Though you are permitted to take a pilot and an escort. They will expect you in 48 hours”

"Perhaps," T'Val mused, "but you are my doctor. I could request my own files, though much of it is already in my records here. There should not be anything they would be hiding from me would there?" She looked genuinely concerned, then walked towards one of the biobeds. "Can you do a full scan now?"
At his nod, she lay down on the biobed, waiting while he adjusted the settings for the Vulcan norm. Their exam was disrupted by a call from Lily.
"Doctors Mercy, I have a transmission coming in from Qualinost."
T'Val sighed deeply, then sat up after Stuart was done with his first series of scans. "Put it through to our office," she acknowledged, then preceded her mate into their office.
The face of Major R'tarn appeared on the screen. "High Priest Kale will be meeting with you for dinner and he will bring two additional guests," he told the two stunned doctors, "would 1900 be acceptable to you?"
T'Val and Stuart shared a brief glance. ~one does not say no to a high priest~ she told him silently "1900 is acceptable major," she replied before signing off. "This is most unusual." The Vulcan frowned while keeping her gaze on the now blank screen. "Why would the high priest and two other guests which the major did not name want to meet with us?"

"I see", Saarok replied, "It is highly unusual to invite me to her gathering knowing full well what my opinion of her actions is"
"But if she so wishes... I will comply", Saarok said
"I presume one of the runabout class vessels shall be at our disposal for this purpose?", Saarok questioned
"Of course", Magellan replied
"I am most grateful", Saarok replied
"Ambassador Ezdreiana, i propose that we depart in 4 hours from now. We shall meet in the docking bay", Saarok said
Ezdreiana nodded to his proposal after which he got up and after giving his regards to Magellan and until later nod to Ezdreiana, he proceeded out of his office and upon joining forces with his guards proceeded to make arrangements for his departure.
He first proceeded to the office of his chief of security Commander Jackson to arrange for an escort and a pilot. He agreed that Commander Jackson will be the pilot for their trip and that Lieutenant Griswold and Ensign Vorek will be his escort for the trip. After he arranged the support staff for the trip, he retired to his office to see what he can dig up on this "conference" it all appeared to be highly illogical and odd mostly because he has not received a personal invitation but rather through a third party, most unusual...

“You know the ways of the Houses. Some slight by my family was made against theirs centuries ago and the grudge is still held. Surely your families house has experienced similar problems. Allies and enemies are fluid on the honeworld. More so since Pratetor Shinzons actions.”
Tedak shrugged unwilling to commit any further,
“The offer is on the table” he simple said.
Vebn looked at Tedak carefully. He was aware that Tedak was not using this as an opportunity to exploit him. Who knew what things Tedak might try and find out if unleashed upon his family and friends on Romulus, but the concern that Tedak would use any information gained against him was tempered by the plight of his daughter. He knew Tedak had honour and that in saying he would help bound him to him. He could trust Tedak to assist him to retrieve his daughter and having a former Tal Shiar operative might come in useful.
“Very well. Thank you for your offer. I am grateful for your help. I have already informed Nelon that I will be leaving for awhile I shall inform him that you also will be gone. I ll tell him we have been recalled to the senate for an important meeting.”
“I will go pack” Tedak nodded
“You have shuttle we can use? It may be quicker than a standard transport”

Tedak knew only too well what House feuds could come to; in the most recent months he had made some discoveries regarding his own House, and the results had struck a sore chord within him. He had discovered his sister's murder had been the result of such a feud, and though he had not been able to uncover which House had been responsible the suggestion that past enemy of his House was responsible.
He regarded his superior closely as he waited for an answer, unwilling to share his own experiences; he still didn't trust Vebn, not enough to share something this personal just yet. "I have my private shuttle," he acknowledged, "it was a gift from the Empress for in return for a personal favour and bears both a diplomatic, imperial and personal seal. It will get us where we will need to be."
The Romulan smiled empathically. "This may come as a surprise, but I do understand how you feel. I will meet you in hangarbay four in an hour, I will have our path cleared with Starfleet by then. I just need to say goodbye to my son and entrust him back in his mother's care until our return."
He bit his farewell to Vebn, then retired to his quarters from where he first sent Ji'Zhan a message that his guest colleges would have to be postponed as he had a personal matter to attend to. After that was settled, he dressed his three-year old son, took him by the hand and strolled down to sickbay.
"Mommy!" the boy cried, running up to his mother. After issuing his mother a fierce hug, he turned to his stepfather. "Dad!" he added, hugging Stuart as well.
T'Val glanced up at her ex-husband, eyebrow raised in question. "It is somewhat early to bring him to me."
Tedak nodded solemnly. "A personal matter has come up," he started, wondering how much he could tell her. "It is a matter of mnei'sahe." From the look on her face, Tedak knew she understood. "I don't know how long I will be gone for, but D'beren will be safer with you than with me on Romulus. There is danger in my venture." He watched T'Val nod. "I will need a brief examination and several vaccinations before going home."
Again T'Val nodded, then motioned for him to take place on one of the vacant biobeds. After a brief examination, she concluded he was back to his normal health, then picked up a hypospray. "This will guard you against any disease," she explained, then handed him a second hypospray. "You will need to give this to Ambassador s'Khellian, he will need these as much as you do."
Tedak smiled; he didn't need to guess how she knew. Not only did she have a firelizard like himself, there was still a residual empathy that remained from their broken bond which would remain for life. "Take care of him?" He nodded toward D'beren who had situated himself on Stuart's lap, smiling with glee at something the young doctor was telling him.
T'Val nodded again. "Keep yourselves safe," she returned.
"I shall endeavour to do so," Tedak promised, "I must take my leave now."
An hour later, Tedak stood waiting at the entrance of his shuttle, which was prepped and ready to go.

Joint Post with T'Val
The shuttle pulled in and R’tarn stepped out. Assured it was safe, Kale and his two guests were led off and escorted to the habitation area. They stopped outside the door and rang the chime.
T'Val adjusted the last of the table's settings before answering the door in person. "Greetings, I am T'Val Mercy. Please, come in and make yourselves comfortable." She stepped aside to admit her guests. The guests waited as major R'tarn entered first. He gave the room a cursory glance then took up station by the door. High Priest kale and the others entered. "Thankyou" Kale noted with a nod
T'Val nodded in return, then preceded them into the livingroom. "This is my husband, Doctor Stuart Mercy," she introduced her mate, then motioned towards the boy, who sat eagerly on the couch, "and my son, D'beren." She regarded her guests closely, observing them as they seemed to observe her and the child. "Can I offer you some refreshment?" she asked at last.
The two others exchanged glances as D'beren was mentioned, their eyes brightened, then they took their seats. "My companions are S'lar" the female "and D'Ror" the male. They both smiled shyly but remained quiet their eye watching as D'Beren played with a toy on the mat.
The Vulcan didn't miss the Silasi's reactions, but chose not to comment on them. "Stuart would you please get the first course?" The Human nodded and walked away into the kitchen, to return later with a home-made vegetable soup. "May I ask to what we owe the honour of your visit?" T'Val asked once the soup was dished up.
Kale smiled, it was a smile perhaps best suited to a snake. 'I am the High Priest I thought it time I spent more time with the Divne Child and his foster parents."
"Adoptive parents," T'Val corrected, suddenly defensive, "Ambassador Tedak and I legally adopted D'beren with permission from the late Elder Jak'Dor and the blessing of the current Elder Ji'Zhan. And we regularly bring D'beren down for teachings of Debrune history and any ceremony Ji'Zhan needs him for. We have been dutiful in our obligations." She paused, looking away. "Forgive me," she continued, "where my son is concerned, I am very protective. He is my only child." Then she nodded towards the Silasi. "What about them?"
"What about them?" Kale asked, "They are merely subjects of the Debrune Imperium interested in the Divine Child. There is no need to be alarmed, In fact in many ways this is a great day."
Kale paused and then finished his soup, "Thankyou that was delicious, whats next?" he smiled
The Mercy's found his smile disconcerting to say the least, and T'Val sensed a certain dishonesty in it. "I was not certain whether you all would consume meat or would be vegetarian so I settled on a vegetarian stew. I have used tofu instead of the chicken that was mentioned in the ingredients." She collected the bowls, then returned later with the plate of stew. "Please, help yourselves."
She sat back down, feeling ill at ease. "This is my private home," she finally said, "if my guests would have liked an audience with the Divine Child, Elder Ji'Zhan would have arranged for us to come to Qualinost. Please note that my son is an individual, and that he is not a circus attraction. Now, what is the real reason for your visit?"
Kale fixed T Val with a stare and turned to Stuart "Your mate is quite hostile and direct. She doesnt seem to think I should be afforded any respect. I find it offensive that you would think that I would view the Divine Child as a circus attraction. He is very important to us as a people. He is the one thing holding together our disparate parts together in peace."
Sensing the growing hostility S'lar leaned forward,
"Excuse me, did you ever meet D'berens father?"
T'Val nodded. "We found him dead where we found D'beren as a baby. He was killed by Ambassador Kaskrene by accident he thought he was going to attack us. My warning came too late." She looked genuinely distressed at the memory and she avoided S'lar's gaze. "His mother was already dead, though we were never able to determine how she died. However much we tried."
Stuart fixed Kale with a cold stare. "My mate is always direct, she is Vulcan," he answered, "and respect is not afforded off hand, it is earned sir."
'lar seemed diasppointed, D'ror took his hand in hers, "And D'beren how is he. Is he aware of his past. Does he understand his place and who he is?"
"Not yet, but he will understand. He is smart and extremely intelligent. He is aware of his past, but he is still young and finds all the attention he receives very interesting and fun. He is, after all, still a child, barely three years old. But we strife to teach him his ancestry, and his heritage. He bonded himself to me when I first held him after we found him."
"That is good" S'lar nodded and winked at D'beren who returned her contact with a cheeky grin. They continued to banter as teh rest of the meal was brought forth. Kale avoided getting drawn into any further conflict and soon they were sat once more on the couches. "Thankyou for a fine meal" Kale said stretching widely
"You are welcome," T'Val answered, "I am pleased that you enjoyed the efforts of a homecooked meal." This time she permitted herself a small smile. "I rarely resort to using the replicator." She scooped up the three-year old from the floor, then sat opposite of the two Silasi while Stuart seated himself close beside her. "Is there anything the Divine Child can do for you?" She glanced directly at S'lar, of whom she sensed the best intentions so far, "I doubt you have come here just to see him. Is there any blessing he can offer for you at the next ceremony?"
S'lar smiled, "For me..." she began but D'ror stopped her by squeezing her hand and cutting her off. "Perhaps we would be allowed to see him again. Get to know him?"
"Get to know him? To what end?" Stuart cut in, sensing his wife's sudden alarm, "you can see him again when there is a ceremony on Qualinost." He glanced sharply at Kale. "I believe it is time for you to leave now, you are distressing my mate." Kale shrugged and stood, S'lar and D'ror followed suit. S'lar looked up set and looked at her mate plaintivly. "Thankyou for a nice meal, even if the manners of the hosts was so hostile" Kale said as followed Major R'tarn out into the corridor. D'ror nodded respectfully to Stuart and T'Val and then led S'lar herself who looked wistfully at D'beren.
T'Val glanced worriedly at her mate. "Something is going on here, but I cannot discern what. The woman, she seems pleasant but she has a hidden agenda. I will not let them near my son again, not without proper Debrune or Starfleet protection." : TAG Stuart
Major R’tarn escorted the three dignitarys to assigned quarters on the base and waited outside. Kale retired to bed immediately leaving S’lar and D’ror alone.
“Did you see him” S’lar said with delight in her voice,
“I did” D’ror replied cautiously, “Don’t get over excited,”
“How can I not, he is my nephew and our chance to have a child.”
D’ror drew her close, “Maybe but what can we, simple farmers offer the Divine Child. Besides he has parents now”
S’lar withdrew,
“Not blood parents and blood is strong in Debrune law. And Kale said the agreement made for their adoption was that no relatives came forward. We have. This is our only chance for a child D’ror, we must take that chance and honour my brother.”

When Vebn finally arrived, Tedak motioned for him to enter the shuttle so that they could leave. With an almost annoyed chirp, Nut appeared next to Vebn, chittering angrily at the older Romulan. A second later, his bronze brother appeared, echoing the brown's anger. "Sev, go home, watch D'beren with Yade," Tedak snapped, and the bronze winked out. "Nut, into the shuttle and remain quiet!"
The Romulan sighed. "Handy pets to have, but sometimes..." He trailed off, letting the younger Romulan finish that sentence for himself. "Are you ready to depart? I have clearance from flight control already, we are ready to go."
At Vebn's quiet nod, Tedak lifted off and manually piloted the shuttle out of the shuttlebay. Once they had exited the Qualinost system, Tedak engaged the cloaking device and jumped his shuttle to warp. Then, he vacated the piloting seat and gestured for Vebn to take it. "Perhaps you would like to pilot us into Romulan space?" he asked softly, "and perhaps give my shuttle a name. It is registered to me personally, but I have yet to rename her for my personal use after all these years. I admit I forgot her original name...it is not recorded anywhere, just her registry number was noted."

~Why do flag officers always have the crampest offices~ Ezdreiana asked herself as she entered the Admiral's office. As the Admiral tried to tidy his office, she could clearly remember her days as a flag officer. She was never an admiral like Magellan or Saarok, but she knew it was hell on the nerves. Though she did pride herself in running tight ship sort to speak.
Once there was space for her, Ezdreiana took a seat on the couch and conversed with the Trill about there homeland. The moment that Saarok entered the office both ceased to speak. Things with Saarok had been a bit chilly as of late. He had yet to acknowledge the fact that his past self murdered Assailant security personal. In fact he had yet to apologize to the families of the men and women that he killed.
"Ambassador Ezdreiana, I propose that we depart in 4 hours from now. We shall meet in the docking bay", Saarok said
"I will meet you there Ambassador," Ezdreiana replied hoping to have a quick word with the Admiral. "Admiral, is the President going to replace us with someone from her office? We both know that we aren't needed on Betazed."

Magellan nodded at the astuteness of her words,
"I feel that things are not what they seem. This is not a long term thing. More a person to person meeting and not neccessarily at the behest of the President"
"Oh?"
"The request came through from the Vice Presidents Office. It seems it is either him or his people at least who want you on Betazed. As to the conference both you and Saarok are perfectly capable of speaking to the assembly. Both of you have done much in maintaining the peace."
"Thankyou Admiral"
"Well its true." Magellan replied, then leaned in conspiratorially, "Just watch yourselves something about this doesnt smell right... but its out of my hands."
He lightened a little and shook Ezedreianas hand as she stood to leave,
"All the best Ambassador, safe journey"

T'Val glanced worriedly at her mate. "Something is going on here, but I cannot discern what. The woman, she seems pleasant but she has a hidden agenda. I will not let them near my son again, not without proper Debrune or Starfleet protection."
Stuart had said nothing and began cleaning up the dishes. He felt the same way as his wife, but couldn't voice it yet...although he didn't need to either. T'Val noticed his silence and went along, knowing that Stuart was collecting his thoughts on all of this.
~S'Lar...D'Ror~ Two names he was not about to forget any time soon. And then this high priest, who did he think he was. Stuart had no reason and no compunction to afford him any respects...not until he showed that he deserved any. Stuart was fuming mad by now.
"Did you notice how they were 'AFTER' him. It was as if they wanted to take him with them, and not just for a ceremony."
T'Val's eyes widened a little due to freight. Stuart hurried to ensure her it would be okay. "Don't worry. I agree with you that D'Beren shouldn't be without a security team. If I have to carry a phaser myself, so help me I will. I think we need to let Admiral Lin know of what just happened here."
Stuart took T'Val into his arms, while he looked towards D'Beren's room where he was busy playing.

Saarok attempted to check the latest information about this conference on the SFI secure network but apparently the system was down for maintenance, which was most unusual and highly illogical to be occurring at a time when a war is on the horizon. But as it was and as time was short and he did not have any physical evidence to confirm any of these concerns and illogical things he noticed, he had to proceed with this "excursions" as planned.
After he made sure his personal security guards were aware of his concerns and that the pilot was none other than his chief of security Commander Jackson, Saarok proceeded to the arranged meeting place where he was to meet with Ezdreiana. His two pets were faithfully following him along with his 2 guards and the pilot each carrying a metal suitcase in hand.
Upon reaching the hangar, Sarkonis went on to prepare the runabout for takeoff while Saarok his two guards and firelizards waited for Ezdreiana to arrive.

~Why is the Vice President involving himself in our jurisdiction~ Ezdreiana asked herself as her mind thought of the possibilities. She had barely spoken to the man when the President had made her announcement.
"All the best Ambassador, safe journey"
"Thank you admiral, and good luck to you and the people of this station," Ezdreiana said knowing that at any moment the Federation might be drawn into the war.
Ezdreiana left the Trills office and immediately contacted her embassy. She instructed her office to contact Admiral T'Vlen of the Vulcan Defense Force, currently patrolling a binary system a few light years from Betazed. They would meet them on Betazed in 41 hours and provide the escort back to Assailant. Vulcan ships were not the top of the line anymore, but they were more than adequate. She would have preferred to contact the Trill Defense Force, but they would never make it in time. Her husband would understand and T'Vlen owed her one.
Admiral Lin's warning weighed heavily on her shoulders. She had joined the Diplomatic Corp to get away from this line of work, but it seemed that it just followed her everywhere she went. It had been a long time since she worried about her personal safety. Her worries prompted her to prepare carefully. Her days in Intelligence had taught her to always be prepare. She would have a weapon available to her at all times, obvious and not so obvious weapons.
When she was ready she made her way to hanger knowing that Saarok would have already arrived. She saw that he had recruited Commander Jackson as their pilot.
"Hello Commander, Ambassador are we ready to depart?" Ezdreiana asked clutching her small briefcase to her body.

Magellan watched as Saaroks shuttle left the main dock and entered free space. It was like a tiny speck upon the viewscreen. He watched as the small craft elongated and then disappeared in to warp in a brilliant flash of white light. He couldn’t shake the feeling that the two Ambassadors were entering dangerous territory the fact that that was on Betazed was all the more disconcerting.
“Is everything alright sir?” F’rass asked uncomfortable having his superior stood beside him whilst he co-ordinated the days incoming and out going traffic.
“Oh yes” Magellan nodded torn from his thoughts, “Let me know when the Tsangvaro arrives I want to see Captain Lamont at his earliest convenience. I ll be in my office.”
“A moment Admiral”
Magellan looked up to see Dr Mercy appear, it was unusual for him to be in ops. He spent most of his time either in sickbay or the hospital.
“What can I do for you Doctor?”
Stuart looked around at the assembled staff at their stations,
“Its err a personal matter sir”
Magellan seemed to frown for a moment before ushering him into his office.
Stuart took a seat and began to explain his concerns.
TAG Stuart
“Its not that I don’t sympathise but this is a complex problem.” Magellan stated finally “The terms of the adoption were under different circumstances. Tedak and T’Val were granted interim care as they were both vulcanoid and because a bond had been established. Jak’dor agreed to the adoption but it was never formalised in either our law nor theirs, there was always the risk a claimant may come forward and without Jak’dor as an advocate High Priest Kale holds considerable influence. You could try talking to Ji’Zahn but in matters of the Divine I would think the High Priest would have greater power.” He paused, “You have my support doctor but only to a limit. This must not become a major incident, I trust it to you to reach an acceptable resolution.”
TAG Stuart
With Dr Mercy gone Magellan checked his diary and noted his meeting with Ambassador Kaskrene. With nearly all the diplomatic staff off base he was in charge of all matters. He made his way to the Tholian embassy. He hadn’t spoken with the Ambassador since the time warp incident and he was not looking forward to it.
…Admiral it is pleasing to see you. Disturbing my return to hatchling was…
“And you Ambassador, what is it I can do for you?”
…There is much the Federation could do to help my people against the barbaric Klingons…
“Ambassador you understand our position we will mediate but not be involved”
…You are already involved... Kaskrene paused clicking two of his fore arms together, Magellan wondered what significance such a move held, anger, annoyance, acceptance? …I wish I could…he paused again obviously vexed
“If we understood your reasoning for these illegal colonies and why you wont give them up we might reach a better under…”
Kaskrene cut him off by thumping the desk,
…would that I could. To tell you would violate the caste moot. I cannot do that. Instead maybe other routes open to us…to open your eyes…to help us…
“Perhaps” Magellan acceded, “I would certainly agree to anything that can clear this up peacefully”
Kaskrene seemed to perk up,
…It is agreed revelation shall be made. Thankyou good day…
Magellan looked at the Tholian in surprise. He had assumed a final answer but nothing. The Tholian said nothing more. It reminded Magellan how alien Tholians were. Most life in the universe had some common ground but the Tholians were so different that such was impossible. Even their very nature silicon not carbon based provided an obstacle.
“Thankyou Ambassador and Good day” he said at last and returned to his quarters in bewilderment, perhaps Kaskrene would reveal all to him later when he had consulted the Assembly.
With the Admiral gone Kaskrene retreated into the sealed parts of the embassy. He took off his suit and revelled in the basking heat and thick atmosphere. He moved to a comm. Terminal and quickly opened up an encrypted line.
…You have permission to go ahead. Enlighten him…
The recipient, a Vulcan female merely nodded curtly before keying off the comm.
…Good luck V’Shal… Kaskrene muttered to himself … the fate of my people may now rest with you…

Even at maximum warp it would take the Romulan Diplomatic shuttle 20 days to reach the Romulan border and a further week to reach Romulus. That was a lot of time for two people to spend time with each other, especially those that didn’t especially like each other.
For a while the two had chatted inanely about very little then there had been long periods of silence and then they had begun taking shifts at the controls so that the only time they really came into contact was at change over. Then they were formal and stilted conversations. How ever much Tedak tentatively pressed he was unable to get anymore information from Vebn.
“We are approaching Romulus” Vebn noted as the shuttle cleared the inner defence cordon and began its descent into the atmosphere,
Tedak moved up and took the co-pilots seat,
“Where are we heading?”
“Home of course.”
“It may not be wise to just show up at the main shuttle port. Discretion may prove better.” Tedaks hands drifted over the console “Here this is a shuttle port just outside of Ki Baratan. We can set down there. Spend a day or so in the capital before you head home.”
Vebn shook his head, “Too much time has already elapsed”
“Exactly” Tedak noted “This way we can assess the situation from afar before we move in closer. I have friends in the capital. We can stay with them”
Vebn slowly relented and nodded, “Very well. We shall do it your way, I m just a diplomat you’re the spy.”

"Hardly," Tedak retorted, smiling down at his boss. Now that he looked closer, he noticed for the first time that Vebn actually looked older; before he had assumed that since he was replaced, it had to have been by a younger man. And when he wasn't this exhausted, Vebn did look younger to Tedak. ~I have yet to recover his real age~ Tedak mused, while observing Vebn from a slight distance.
"I just have the advantage of having been a Tal Shiar operative. Here let me take the controls again, you don't need to see the co-ordinates of where my friend lives. She will kill me if I tell anyone the exact location of her residence."
(vebn)
Tedak slid back in the pilot's seat once Vebn vacated it and set the controls. "You still have to name my shuttle," he told Vebn after a long silence.
(Vebn)
"No I insist. Please, bestow an honourable name upon my shuttle. It would be my honour if you would do this." While he spoke, Tedak kept his eyes on his console, keying in the co-ordinates. "Rowena, this is Tedak, I request safe passage into Ki-Baratan and I seek safe haven for myself and my companion, the esteemed Ambassador Vebn s'Khellian. We are on a resque mission of the utmost importance and it is imperative that no-one knows of our presence on Rihan."
"This is Rowena, how do I know it is you?"
Tedak smiled. "Aidoann spoke highly of you when we were young, her daughter Amanda still smiles when I tell her you were the most beautiful woman on Rihan."
"And Amanda knows that she is more beautiful than I," Rowena replied, "I am glad to hear from you again Tedak. You may set down your shuttle, but make sure no-one sees you."
"I am cloaked," Tedak responded, "are you secure?"
"We are secure and awaiting your arrival. I am looking forward to meet this friend of yours, what was his name? s'Khellian? An honoured house, I have heard of it."
"He is no friend," Tedak replied, "just my travel companion. We are setting down now. He will tell you more once we meet face to face."
Minutes later, Tedak and Vebn were ushered into the large mansion at gunpoint. Rowena was taking no chances with them and Tedak was having trouble keeping Nut at bay. "She is thorough," Tedak told Vebn, "but she is trustworthy. I have known her since Aidoann and I were children and we were in the Tal Shiar together, serving on the same ship. Once, Aidoann was killed and before I left the Tal Shiar to pursue a career as ambassador, Rowena and I were a couple. It was a long time ago, and the fires of passion were extinguished well before that. Rowena found happiness in another and we moved on as friends."

T'Val watched Stuart leave, knowing he felt as helpless as she did against the situation. In the mean time, she watched over her son like a true mother hen, never leaving out of her sight out of fear he might be kidnapped.
There was something odd about this Silasi couple, especially the woman. She had just kept staring at D'beren in a very perculiar way, a way T'Val couldn't begin to understand. She did understand that the woman meant her son no harm and she sensed nothing but love for the child. But how could a woman love a child she did not know?
Reaching towards her son, T'Val gathered him up in her arms, hugging him close to her. D'beren struggled in her grasp, twisting to turn and face her. "Mama are you alright?" He gazed up at her, wide eyed, his grey eyes full of concern as he picked up on her distress.
"No." She stared down at the boy, sensing his worry. He was not her biological son, but her bond with him was just as strong as it would be with a child of her own. ~he is a child of my own, just not of my blood~ He had imprinted her when he was a baby, and often T'Val felt he was still somehow controlling her emotions, especially when they were in his defense. However over the past three years she had learned to discern when emotions were hers or his, and now they were most definately not his. Her distress was her own, and she feared she might lose her child somehow.
She tapped her combadge, while she waited for Stuart to return home. "T'Val to Elder Ji'zhan, I need to speak with you and it is very urgent and important." She knew Ji'Zhan was on the base, she always knew when he was close, through D'beren. The boy was fond of the Debrune elder, as fond as a child would be of a close uncle. With Tedak off-base and Stuart taking their plea for security to Magellan, Ji'Zhan was the only person she felt she could turn to. After all, it was a Debrune issue.

Stuart headed to Ops to see what the Admiral could do about this situation. A few moments went by in Ops when Stuart was finally able to see the busy man.
“What can I do for you Doctor?”
Stuart looked around at the assembled staff at their stations,
“Its err a personal matter sir”
Magellan seemed to frown for a moment before ushering him into his office.
Stuart took a seat and began to explain his concerns. “T’Val and I just had the strangest visitors from Qualinost. To say the least, one of which was High Priest Kale, he was in the company of two others…a man and a woman…their names escape me for the moment, but we have visitor logs.” Sensing from Admiral Lin’s face, Stuart realized that he needed to get on with his point.
“The thing is, initially we were highly concerned for D’Beren’s safety. You see, this couple, that High Priest Kale had brought over, was very much interested in D’Beren. It seemed as if the whole visit was set up just for them to see D’Beren. On my way over here, I came to another realization…I think they want him, like they might be related to him or something. If that’s the case, how am I going to break this to T’Val?” Stuart covered his face for a moment, knowing how much this could devastate his wife.
The Admiral was right, this wasn’t their child to keep if he had other surviving relatives. “Of course, Admiral. If I may, I would ask of you to check into these people from your end? You know, proof of whatever they may claim? We don’t want D’Beren in the hands of some fanatics. That wouldn’t be good for any of us, much less him.”
Admiral Lin promised that he would look into what was going on. Stuart took his leave and returned to his quarters, expecting to see T’Val there. When he entered he realized that no one was home. “Lily, locate T’Val and D’Beren please.”
{They have just entered turbolift Delta-2-4, requesting the Diplomatic Level as their destination. Probability is very high that they are seeking an audience with Elder Ji'zhan, as T’Val had sent a message to him before leaving.}
“Thank you, Lily!” It made sense that T’Val would go to him. Stuart decided to wait for her and went to the kitchen to make himself a sandwhich.
