As the two officers were introduced, Megan tried to determine whether to continue escorting Teyno to his office or find out what Tavik wanted to talk about, but their new security chief seemed to pick up on the same thing that she had, and glancing between the two of them, made the decision for her. "Well, I'll let you two catch up,” he interjected politely. “I suppose I should report in to the Captain at some time?"
Appreciative of his reading of the situation, Megan replied, “He’s spending some time off duty with his son, but I’m sure he’ll be introducing himself when he’s back. Your office is just down this corridor on the left. If you need anything else, just ask.”
"Thank you for your help, Ma'am," he replied, again very politely, as he continued on his way toward his office. So far, she was somewhat impressed with the officer.
Turning to Valad, Commander Garrett decided perhaps it would be best to talk in her office, as she didn’t know how confidential what he wanted to discuss was. “If you want to talk, we can go to my office,” she suggested, heading in that direction.

The few minutes getting there were rather quiet, but clearly the operations officer had something on his mind. Once they arrived, Megan moved to the replicator behind her desk. “Would you like something to drink?” she offered gesturing for him to sit.

Finally sitting down behind the desk as well, Commander Garrett gave Mr. Tavik her full attention. “Now, Lieutenant, what is it you wanted to discuss?” she asked.

The royal blue or the medium pink? Three-quarter length sleeves or cap sleeves? These were the only questions left to answer before she was officially bored out of her skull. These last few shifts had been so mind-numbingly dull that the young officer had been completely desperate for absolutely anything to distract her from the nothingness that surrounded her. The brig was empty, the ship was docked, and even though there was nothing left to do, she had three brig shifts scheduled, and this was only the second. Already, she had written a few letters to friends and family back home, updated and customized her personal database to the max, and had found ways to spend most of her credits on clothing. Once she selected a sweater from a shop on the starbase, to be picked up later, she was officially done.
Just as she’d almost made up her mind, the doors opened, and she quickly returned the console to the standard security layout. This was the first person she’d seen in the brig in days. And whoever he was, he was a tall drink of water… Smiling her most charming smile in his direction, barely even noticing his rank, just the way his muscles filled out his uniform, Marina rose to her feet and gave him a second...and a third look over. Much to her delight he smiled right back at her. "Hello there, I'm Lieutenant Teyno, the new Chief of Security, and who might you be?" he asked.
Somewhat crestfallen, as this meant he was her boss and she shouldn’t date him, Marina decided that shouldn’t didn’t necessarily mean couldn’t but tried to reign in her almost instinctual flirting as she replied. “Ensign Marina Garrett…Sir...I’m the security officer currently assigned to the brig. My shift began almost four hours ago.”
"I'm surprised to find an officer on brig duty in spacedock," the growing even more attractive by the minute Lieutenant stated. "We don't have a prisoner in, do we?"
Grateful that finally someone else, actually her boss, agreed, and she wasn’t crazy, Marina replied, "No, the duty roster hasn't been changed since the last chief left."
"Ah, of course, well, consider yourself relieved for now,” Teyno responded, raising his appeal from attractive superior to knight in shining armor. “But make sure you don't forget about the general security meeting in cargo bay one," he added grinning.
“Oh, I’ll be there,” Marina promised, grinning in return, but attempting to keep her glances in his direction somewhat more...G rated than her actual thoughts. He did seem busy, unfortunately, so with a polite nod in her direction, he left, much to her grave disappointment. It was just as well though, as she hadn’t put quite as much effort into her appearance as usual, given the graveyard-like quality of the previous shift. There was this security meeting, and she had to get ready for that. Now this brand new assignment to the Jefferson had just gotten a whole lot more interesting...

It had taken some work, but Marina had finally gotten her hair to curl perfectly and then gotten it pulled half back with a few clips. Normally, she didn’t put that much work into her hair for duty, but the stakes were higher now. Everyone was chatting amongst themselves regarding their new boss, and all sorts of rumors about who he was, where he came from, what he was like were flying around the cargo bay at lightening speed. She took in every word and filed it away, but frankly since she knew what he looked like, they were somewhat secondary to her main objectives.
He arrived a few minutes after she did, looking just as hot as he had earlier. The group immediately fell silent, and somehow receiving that level of respect only made him that much more attractive...if that was even possible. As he began to speak, she tried to push those thoughts aside for the moment and think more professionally, but it was already too late…he practically had a target on his back.
Teyno certainly was more assertive and forceful than their former boss, but given the disaster Orlov had made and left behind, Marina found it refreshing, not that he could do any wrong looking like that... Teyno continued, "I will be arranging a series of security drills over the coming days. We’ll also be performing a complete security sweep of the ship to make sure my predecessor hasn't missed anything. If there’s so much as a kitchen utensil out of place on this ship, I want to know about it. I expect department-wide readiness reports by tomorrow morning. Have I made myself clear?" he questioned, receiving an automatic, universal affirmative reply. "Dismissed!" he ordered in conclusion, and everyone began to scatter for the door.
Now that the Lieutenant had been made an official target, Marina debated her plan of attack. He was her boss, so that added an additional obstacle. The general first impression she got of him was that he wouldn’t be much of a challenge except for his position of authority, which was quite a complication. It was best to play things cautious and coy at first, especially while he was focused on work and determined to get the department in shape. With that in mind, Ensign Garrett instantly picked the indispensable, hard-working approach to start off, and walked over to join him.
“Hello again, Sir, I’m glad to see you’re getting right to business. I’m somewhat new to the ship as well, so I may not be much help getting settled, but if you need any help getting familiar with the ship or the staff, or even just need someone to run ideas by, I would be happy to try to help as best I can,” she offered politely, trying to keep from staring at him too much… “I’m looking forward to working with you.”
Appreciative of his reading of the situation, Megan replied, “He’s spending some time off duty with his son, but I’m sure he’ll be introducing himself when he’s back. Your office is just down this corridor on the left. If you need anything else, just ask.”
