Mission Briefing:
The USS Vesuvius is sent to the Shanti-system to investigate a series of raids and disappearance of several small merchant vessels. Additionally, they will be supplying food and medical aid to the planet Mayim, an O-class planet colonised by a wide variety of species, who have sent their most religious people to start a new community of goodwill and peace.
While on their way there, upon approach of the system, the Vesuvius herself will be attacked and raided. Among the stolen items are various medical supplies and one of the cloaking devices.
Note: - only one cloak may be stolen - one entire module may also be stolen - as a whole, the cloaking system is now disrupted, but individual modules can still cloak when in MVA - anyone may pick up a pirate NPC, though all will 'report' to our guestplayer, who will be the pirate captain.
other than that: have fun!
on another note: make sure you're signed up to our own SMS site at vesuvius.byethost17.com it's very important that you're signed up there as you might miss important notices along the way.

Rear Admiral Sonak Reckus stood behind the seat she usually occupied during mission briefings. Their previous mission was still fresh on her mind, but she really didn't want to dwell on it. They'd had two days of rest but now the wide unknown was calling again, and the call was for aid.
As she was a ship with a wide variety of technological advantages, the Vesuvius was ideally suited for this mission. Sonak glanced around, her gaze briefly settling on every crewmember. She smiled softly as she noticed her old chief engineer, Logan Byrne taking up his usual seat again. She had been relieved to learn that he was replacing Martens, who had taken up a teaching position on Tandar Prime, to be with his young daughter. At least, she was relieved that the Forerunners had no part in the cloning scandal, though it had been something she had feared for a while.
Her gaze finally settled on her chief medical officer, who didn't look too happy. Privately, she promised herself to go see her later, because Jatan hadn't told her of anything either. At last, after a long silence, while allowing her crew to get settled, she nodded towards her first officer, who called up an image of their destination. "Mayim," she spoke up, "the Hebrew word for water. An apt name, for a planet consisting for eighty percent of water. There is a colony on the southern hemisphere, consisting of approximately seven-thousand colonists, by the last count. The majority of the colonists are religious Humans, but they have been joined by Bajorans, Cardassians, Romulans, a few Vulcans and even one or two Ferengi who turned away from their caste system. The system was called Shanti, after the Hindu word for peace."
She paused, calling up an image of debris. "The planet is frequently raided, every merchant coming their way found their way barred, their ship boarded and their goods stolen. Our mission is two-fold. First, we need to discover who is raiding their merchants and put a stop to it, and second we are to deliver much needed supplies of food and medication."
This time, she nodded over to the chief medical officer. "Doctor Kennedy, you are charged with putting together the medical supplies. Commanders Daya and Apirana, you two will devise a way to trap the pirates, once we get a fix on their movements. Commander Byrne, please work with the doctor. They will no doubt wish to have a replicator, suitable for their habitat. You will see to it that one of ours is modified, while the doctor provides you with their nutritional needs and demands. Parsons, you will take an away team to Mayim to deliver our shipment upon our arrival. In the mean time, I would like you to work with Apirana and Daya. Additionally, I would like you to take on the science station during our voyage, as we unfortunately lost Mr Fox to a teaching position on at Starfleet Academy. Are there any questions?"
Then she realised she had forgotten about one important person. "Mr Tagert, I do apologise for not giving you any orders. However as you are a pilot, I do believe your skills speak for themselves. I want you to practice your evasive maneuvres, as well as swift desection into multi vector assault mode and engaging of the cloaking devices. Calibrate them where needed, work with Commander Byrne on optimalising them. We shall need them, I am certain of that."

Daya had spent the majority of the two days walking around the ship and seeing the various stations, just because he could and because they hadn't been given a mission yet. He had spent a lot of time at the security and tactical area, mostly as a way of reminiscing on his old position on the various ships he had served on. Although he was on a new ship and in a new position, he did have a few people he had previously worked with, to include Commander Parsons and Commander Apirana. Asking the computer for the time he wasn't surprised when the staff meeting was in 10 minutes, which would mean that most of the other senior officers would be there already. Daya turned around and walked towards the conference room which was only a few minutes away.
Upon entering Daya noticed that most of the staff had already arrived and were seated, 'great, now every one is looking at me' he thought as he walked over to an open chair, before taking a seat he spoke. "Its good to meet all of you, I'm Commander Daya, your new chief operations officer."

*input Sonak's speech*
While Daya was uncertain about working with Paikea again, he hoped they were both mature enough to leave the past behind them and work together. 'oh what am i saying, we are gonna end up in a fight' Daya thought to himself, while shooting a glare in Pai's direction. "What religion are these humans, and have any of the other races accepted that religion?" Daya asked, being the first to speak up. "If Commander Tagert would like, i have some PADDs with a few situations he could use to practice, a couple Klingon birds of prey, or an asteroid belt."

Paikea Apirana had always been a social person. This trait had actually gotten him in trouble quite a few times during his time at the Academy, but deep down Pai had always felt that it was a good thing. With this in mind, Pai decided that he would try and make friends with everyone on the Vesuvius. He had been a member of the crew for a few weeks now and he had sadly yet to make any friends. Paikea realized that this would be very difficult since it was public knowledge that he didn't like new promoted Rear Admiral Sonak Reckus. Even worse, Daya was now the new operations officer onboard. While Daya was more than a compentent officer, he had always rubbed Pai the wrong way. Feeling that things were already stacked against him, Paikea did the only thing that always made him smile.
"Computer, run the most advance martial arts program and replicate training gear," Pai said as stopped next to the holodeck.
"Program initated."
As Paikea entered the arena he couldn't help but feel like he had been there before. It then dawned on him that the arena was a replica of the Vulcanis Lunar Colony Arena, where he had fought many years ago. Quickly changing into his gear, Paikea walked towards the center of the fighting circle and faced his challenger.
"Bow to your opponent and then begin........"
Even though the safties had been on for the entire training course, Paikea could feel the welts and bruises began to appear on his body. Pai should have started off on an easier setting especially since he hadn't competed in any type of match in over seven months. Even so his ego had not been tarnished as he had finished first in program's tournment.
"Commander Apirana to Doctor Kennedy, could you see me before the mission briefing?" Paikea said as he activated his combadge," I have some minor injuries and bruises that I would like to get rid of."
(Kennedy)
"Thank you doctor, I'll be in sickbay in a few minutes," Paikea said as he winced from the pain in his ribcage which seemed to be spreading.

Kerry-Anne awoke feeling rather upset, she was sad that Tedak had to leave so quickly. She showered and got into a fresh uniform before checking herself in the mirror, after she was happy he looked good enough he made her way out of her quarters and towards sickbay.
She was not half way there when she heard.
Commander Apirana to Doctor Kennedy, could you see me before the mission briefing?" Paikea said as he activated his combadge," I have some minor injuries and bruises that I would like to get rid of."
She tapped her comm. Badge and said in reply.
“Of course Commander.. I am on my way to sickbay now I shall be there in a few moments.”
The reply came seconds later.
"Thank you doctor, I'll be in sickbay in a few minutes,"
Kerry-Anne quickened her pace and made it to sickbay just before Commander Apirana.
She smiled at him as he held a hand on his ribs, Kerry-Anne moved over to him and walked him to the closest bio bed. She picked up a medical tricorder and a dermal regenerator as she asked.
<Tag Apirana>
She finished running the regenerator over his bruises and smiled as she said.
“Good as new Commander… just take it easier next time.”
<Tag Apirana>
AFTER THE MEETING
Kerry-Anne walked straight from the staff briefing towards the cargo bay where she had ordered some of her staff to start stock piling medical supplies.
As she entered she smiled there was enough medical supplies to keep a small army healthy and fit.
She watched as more and more crates of supplies arrived ready to be delivered to the colony.
She tapped her comm. Badge and said.
“Commander Byrne this is Doctor Kennedy if you have the time I can go over the nutritional needs of the colony the Admiral wanted me to help you with.”

"The Humans are of a wide variet of religions," the Vulcan admiral answered, "the majority are Christians but there is a wide population of islamics, hindu and jews, as well as several minor religions, all living peacefully together."
She looked around, pleased that the operations chief had taken to asking the first questions. "If that was all," she continued after a long silence. "Commander Tagert, take your station and set course for Mayim, best possible speed."
~~
Tellarite captain Relk steered his marauder back into the system, disruptors blazing. The small merchant vessel was obliterated as soon as it's cargo was transported into Relk's cargohold. He snorted in satisfaction before kicking his vessel into the best possible speed.
At the tactical station, Sublieutenant T'Ran cheered as her shot killed the merchant. "Well done," she praised her captain.
"Hah," Relk snorted, "if you had done better shooting, we might not now have lost half of their cargo, and we'd have slaves to sell."
Rantou Gaunt peered at his console. "Relk, incoming message. We have to return to the fleet. At once. Our captain's orders are quite clear, no more raids in Mayim. Starfleet is on alert and might send a ship."
"Pah!" Relk spat. "Starfleet. Let them come, set course for the Human freighter. There's bounty and slaves to be had. This time, keep the ship intact you idiot!"
The Romulan woman grimaced under the insults, but she was used to them by now. She shared Relk's bed, the only reason she was free to move about. One day, she would kill him and take over. For now, she would plan silently and report to their group master. "Yes captain," she answered, her voice cold as steel.
Hours later, the merchant vessel too was destroyed but the bounty was worth the wait. Twenty-seven slaves to be sold on the Orion slave marked, a good portion of the looting going to the master, but still a considerable profit to be had.
"Return to base," Relk ordered.

"Doctor could you please keep this between the two of us?" Paikea asked already starting to feel better," I was careless this time."
(Kennedy)
Hoping that his request wouldn't come off as unethical, Paikea continued to make small talk with the doctor. She seemed pleasant enough and the fact that she was half Bajoran was extremely interesting to Pai, who lvoed to study races and how different cultures interact.
“Good as new Commander… just take it easier next time.”
"Thank you doctor, I keep that in mind," Paikea said as he propped himself up from the bio bed and headed towards the mission briefing.
Paikea was pleased to see that he wasn't the last person to arrive. In fact he relished in the fact that Daya had yet to arrive and he would most likley be the last to arrive. When he finally did arrive, the Vulcan introduced him to the entire staff.
"Its good to meet all of you, I'm Commander Daya, your new chief operations officer."
"Late as usual," Paikea said under his breath, so that only a few people heard him, one of them being Daya himself.
Paikea listened quietly to the Vulcan's breifing and found that his assignment would be pretty straight forward. Trap the pirates without trying to harm Daya in the process.

(Greetings Vesuvius crew; it's my honor to join you as a guest poster this time around playing the part of the terrible pirate leader of sorts. I apologize in advance for any lack of quality as this is my first attempt at guest-posting.)
A medium-sized Ferengi vessel flowed through the void on its way out of Mayim space. However, no Ferengi were aboard this particular vessel and a human male sat in tenuous command... as leadership within a group of pirates was a constantly changing thing. He'd assumed the name Skurr Darkblade, for the theatrics of course, and even his colleagues knew not of his real identity. From the neck-length black hair to his overly dramatic highwayman style boots, Skur looked every bit the stereotypical pirate, though he was a tad more practical than wearing a cutlass, and contented himself with the Ferengi energy whip that had been procured at the same time as the vessel.
Funny story that; now named the Nautilus, the original Ferengi title was never known to her current crew, but they managed to secure the ship without firing a shot. Skurr had been achieving relative success in his climbing of the pirate hierarchy ladder with a few good raids and ambushes in ground assaults, but had yet to earn his own vessel. When the fleet picked up the Ferengi ship nearby, Captain Relk as per usual brazenly volunteered to seize it even if he had to personally slaughter every Ferengi aboard. Grinning as he saw his opportunity, Skurr immediately spoke up to the 'Admiral' of the fleet and promised he could take the ship with no damage to either it or the pirates' own resources.
Impressed with the subtlety of the claim, but not really believing it would work, the Admiral ordered Relk to ferry Skurr and his team to the ship, that way if this upstart failed Relk would still be able to seize it in battle. Using a planetary orbit to slip in behind the Ferengi for a surprise shot, Skurr told Relk to disable the shield generator, and once that was done he beamed aboard his Elasian mate Tysmur, and his Lurian friend he'd painstakingly won the right to nickname Alf.
The raiding duo was quickly captured, and the gloating Ferengi quickly imprisoned them and were preparring to demand Relk's surrender for their release, when the toxin, lethal to Ferengi within minutes of contact, was released from within Alf's second stomach where it had been harmlessly stored until then. In a panic the Ferengi quickly abandoned their vessel, and once all the escape pods were away Skurr beamed aboard and released his companions. He then informed the fleeing Ferengi that their ship had been claimed under the authority of the 'Ferengi Salvage Code' that the big-ears themselves often cited as an excuse to lay claim to anything they found that was either disabled or non-populated.
Knowing he would never again be called Daimon if it was learned he had his own ship scammed out from under him, the lead Ferengi grudingly acknowledged Skurr's claim, and now 1 year later was probably still bribing his crewmates to keep them from relaying the tale of his blunder. Skurr had won a hefty feather in his cap that day and earned the ire of Relk who'd been quite readily shown up. Now, with a crew of about 15, Skurr sat at the command of the Nautilus and heard the frown in Tysmur's voice as she gave a report, "Relk's going in the opposite direction; we're reading some kind of vessel on long range sensors but it's too far to tell its type."
Skurr grinned, "No doubt achieving another glorious victory over an inferiorly equipped opponent. He'll be along when he's collected what's valuable."
Tysmur, her long brown hair held over her temples by an ornate tiara Skurr had swiped for her some time ago, continued to frown, "You give him too much leeway you know."
With a flourish Skurr spun his chair to face the Elasian beauty whose tears could enslave a man for life, "Of course dearest; allowing him the illusion of control ensures that when his inevitable bid for total power occurs... he's more likely to make a mistake."
The Elasian's frowned deepened as her eyes widened at the data on her screen, "Captain we've just finished decrypting that message Mayim transmitted a few weeks ago... They've requested Federation aid which means"
"Which means they'll send a starship. Hmm, a tempting target to be sure, and possibly even worth the risk but for the moment we play it safe until we know more about it. Move us into Mayim's debris field and rig for silent running. We'll have a look at the beauty before we strike", Skurr gave out instructions before turning back to Alf at the helm with a smirk as an initial planned formed in his mind, "Ready for your closeup?"

Once the Vesuvius senior staff was settled in the briefing room, the newly promoted rear admiral nodded toward her first officer, who called up an image of their destination.
Sonak introduced the planet as "Mayim." Parsons found the planet's name and its meaning interesting and was glad to have the last mission behind him and back on board the Vesuvius again. Parsons own religious beliefs were not shared by a majority of humans at this point in history and he found the idea of this planet a fascinating one.
The Admiral paused after her introduction of the planet and called up an image of debris. She described a serious piracy problem, no doubt exacerbated by the colonist's peaceful nature. Adam was glad the Vesuvius had been selected for this mission. He had always felt a great desire to come to the aid of those that could not defend themselves, and this would not be Parsons' first encounter with pirates.
Parsons had every confidence in Pai and Daya, but was weary of their working together on this mission. They had not always gotten along in the past, but Adam hoped that would change with this new posting.
"Parsons, you will take an away team to Mayim to deliver our shipment upon our arrival. In the mean time, I would like you to work with Apirana and Daya. Additionally, I would like you to take on the science station during our voyage, as we unfortunately lost Mr Fox to a teaching position on at Starfleet Academy. Are there any questions?"
Adam nodded as his jobs for this mission were listed off. Working with Daya and Pai simply meant keeping them from killing each other, but Parsons experience as a tactical officer would be useful in neutralizing the pirate threat. The away mission sounded simple enough. As for the science station, that would present a new challenge. Though the XO had been trained to fill that role, he had never been a science officer.
Aside from Daya, it did not appear that any of the other officers had questions about the mission, so the Admiral dismissed the group.

Sitting at the mission briefing was a little unsettling since he hasn't been aboard for so long. Logan sat across from the empty chair of the new Rear Admiral. As she stood, behind it, he watched as Sonak has scanned the persons at the long table. Noticing her almost perfect Vulcan facial features, change as she looked at the main staff.
Once the meeting was over, Byrne headed towards his quarters to gather a few components to aid him in working on the modified replicator system the Doctor needed. Heading over to the Science Lab for a spectral monitor, he reminised about his adventures with Commander Fox.
Breaking him from daydreaming, came the voice of the courageous new Doctor aboard the ship. Tapping his badge, " Commander Byrne, here. Doctor Kennedy, I have the equipment you need and will be there momentarily. Byrne, out".
Navigating his way to the Medical Bays, he managed to stop by to say a special hello to his god-daughter and her father. Jatan seemed edgier than normal, and knowing how Vulcans can be, let it slide.
Entering the sickbay, he saw a wounded Apirana nursing a bruised ribcage. Snickering, Logan thought to himself, now I have reset the safeties on the Holodeck again. Setting the new protocols into the modified replicator, Logan handed the controller to Doctor Kennedy and proceeded to instructed her the use, as not to contaminate the nutritional supplements prior to containment.
With that done, Commander Byrne headed up to the bridge to keep a hot young pilot from destroying his ship with any daredevil manuveurs.

Smiling and snorting triumphantly, Relk returned to the Nautilus, easily docking his small vessel with it. He yanked one of the Orion women with him, and he was still surprised the woman's pheromones had little effect on him. "I've a gift," he said bluntly, thrusting the woman at Skurr, "but I expect to be paid for the rest of them. Where's the starship?"
Relk looked around, rudely responding to anything his ears picked up, in a true Tellarite fashion. "The ship smells like a pigstall," he remarked casually, swiping a finger over a console, "and there's plenty of dirt."
His grin widened, pleased that no-one responded. He always managed to strike at least someone speechless. "The supplies have been seized. Are we organised to take on the Fleeters? I've top of the line disruptors on my vessel now. I've still a batch for sale if you want any."
Like many a merchant, Relk wasn't shy about trying to barter, and get a good price for his goods. And he did have a knack of obtaining valuable items that just about everyone wanted. "I heard Farant got herself in trouble again. What's she done this time? Speeding within system? Her scout's impounded at Outpost Epsilon."
After the briefing, Sonak settled herself in her chair on the bridge, signaling Tagert to engage the warp engines at best possible speed. She wanted their supplies offloaded as soon as possible, so they could focus on apprehending the pirates that were plagueing the system. "ETA to Mayim?" she enquired of Daya, who was stood at OPS.
Turning, she looked at Apirana. "Run every possible diagnostic you can think of," she ordered, "weapons testing, emergency drills, everything. I want us to be prepared. Additionally, test MVA undocking and docking speed. I want to be able to split up as fast as we can, to provide multiple targets as well as defense options." Then, she offered a slight but sly smile. "How often have you operated a cloaking device?" she then asked, "activate it both as one and then again when we are in MVA."
The Vulcan tapped her combadge. "Commander Byrne, prepare for a slight energy drain. We are engaging the cloak." She nodded towards Parsons and then Daya. "Commander Parsons, report to Mercury bridge, Commander Daya you will command Discordia. Report when you are settled, so Commander Apirana can start his testing."

Relk thundered his way onto the bridge of the Nautilus with prizes in tow. "I've a gift," he said bluntly, thrusting an Orion slave girl at Skurr, "but I expect to be paid for the rest of them. Where's the starship?"
Skurr caught the girl's hand to keep her from falling down, but deftly spun her into a waltz-like turn whose momentum carried her out of his hand to bump into Alf who was standing nearby. Skurr chuckled silently to himself as his Lurian friend blushed a darker tone of grey in shy response to the skantily clad Orion. He didn't know what effect Orion pheremones were supposed to have on Lurian physiology, but he himself was safe from their effects thanks to being intentionally 'enslaved' by the power of Tysmur's Elasian tears. Skurr would remain loyal to his love regardless, but their presence in his system made it difficult for empaths to read him accurately, and his continued focus on the 'art' of piracy staved off the more paralyzing effects of the tears.
When ignored for too long Relk always strove to reassert himself as the center of attention and was true to form today. Relk looked around, rudely responding to anything his ears picked up, in a true Tellarite fashion. "The ship smells like a pigstall," he remarked casually, swiping a finger over a console, "and there's plenty of dirt."
Skurr's lips curled up on the right in a grin as his crew reacted just as they should, which was to say not at all. Relk would be allowed to feel superior to lower 'ranked' members of the fleet, with any ire kept aimed at Skurr. The human pirate raised a hand to his chest in mock dismay and spoke in kind, "Come now, Relk. What kind of host would I be if I didn't try to make you feel right at home?"
Eyes narrowing at the returned insult, Relk became all business again, "The supplies have been seized. Are we organised to take on the Fleeters? I've top of the line disruptors on my vessel now. I've still a batch for sale if you want any."
Skurr nodded as though grateful, "We could certainly use some; nice catch Relk. I'll take them and a third of the Orions at the standard price; the rest you can spread around to the others as you like. Space can get so lonely after all."
He then strode over to his chair, sitting down and setting his boots atop a nearby console, "As for Starfleet, jury's still out on specifics but it looks like just one ship."
Relk snorted, "Then we can take it easily."
Skurr rolled his eyes and gave a laughing sigh as he crossed his hands behind his head in a casual repose, "And people say the Zakdorn are great strategists. Yes, Relk, we certainly have the manpower to capture or maybe even destroy a Federation vessel and pull the full retaliatory response of the Federation down on our heads. Superb choice."
He sat forward, boots back on the deck now and elbows propped on his knees as he entered business-mode, "Extreme care must be taken when targetting Starfleet vessels; that's a whole other type of bees nest than a roving merchant convoy. We wait until they get in-system, see what class they are and observe their approach posture. And when we hit them, we'll do it when they're close enough to Mayim for their 'rescue' mission to gnaw at their focus but still far enough away that the planet can't offer assistance, assuming it even has any left to give."
Eager to draw focus away from his chastisement, Relk mentioned a bit of news regarding one of their comrades, "I heard Farant got herself in trouble again. What's she done this time? Speeding within system? Her scout's impounded at Outpost Epsilon."
Skurr blinked at the news, "You've located her ship? Nice work I hadn't yet tracked it down. Why don't you and your shiny new disruptors go retrieve our wayward lamb and return her to the flock. We'll need all the resources we can muster when the time does come to tackle the Starfleet's noble cavalry ship."
As Relk and party made to depart, Skurr tossed him a hefty bag of latinum, punctuating his goodbye with his charateristic grin, "Oh and Relk? Don't forget what makes us better than them... style."
***************************************
As Relk's ship detached and made for Outpost Epsilon, Tysmur looked to her mate, "You didn't tell Relk we lost the Starfleet signature over an hour ago."
Skurr smiled, "Quite right dearest, that would've set him off, the notion that anyone would dare impede the triumphant gaze of Captain Relk." He finished with an only partially exaggerated imitation of the Tellarite's bravado. "Relk can be counted on to charge forward and provide a laudable distraction when the time comes. Our own approach will be, as usual, of a more subtle persuasion. Ready Alf?"
The Lurian had donned a bulkier jacket with spikes at the shoulders, and carried a wicked-looking disruptor at the hip. He assumed the captain's chair and tilted his chin upward in a smug expression before nodding to Skurr, who brought his fingers to his lips in an expression like that of a chef complimenting a delicious entree.
"Perfect my friend, any better and it'd be wrong. Now darling, let's you and I get ourselves into character as well. Alf, assume standard raiding posture, but look like you're trying to use Mayim's widest-orbiting moon for cover. Tys and I will be in the cells with the other 'captives'; good hunting my friend", with a smile and a two-fingered salute to Alf, Skurr and Tysmur left the bridge to begin their facade.

Before the disengagement, Byrne parked himself in Main Engineering at this favorite desk. Gauging the power flow, he compensated for the drains during the MVA. He could almost hear the tapping of fingers echoing through the decks coming from the Admiral.
Scanning the Engineering reports, he noticed a few mechanical "hick-ups" in the ablative armor between the separating modules. Tapping in a few equations into the Engineering "Pool Table", he was able to smooth out some of the energy effects to lessen any abnormalities in the shielding systems.
Tapping his badge, "Commander Byrne to Admiral Sonak, we had some unusual readings in the ablative armor matrix, I smoothed them out, but remember, this WILL have us at 97% shield strength during MAV. Byrne out".

Adam walked out of the conference room just ahead of the Admiral and stepped onto the bridge. Adam veered off from his usual spot and took up position at the science station, familiarizing himself with the controls.
The Admiral issued a flurry of commands to Pai regarding diagnostics that were to be completed before the ship engaged any pirate threat. Sonak also ordered the crew to prepare for Multi-Vector Assault Mode.
Parsons finished what he was doing at the Science station and an Ensign stepped in for him as the XO stepped away.
Once on the turbo lift with Daya, "Deck 6, Secondary Bridge," Adam ordered. Turning to Daya, "See you out there, Commander." Parsons stepped off of the turbolift as the doors slid open at deck 6. He took up position in front of the command chair as the other secondary bridge crew found their way to their stations.
"Admiral, Parsons in position on the Secondary Bridge."

Not allowing anyone to know that he had secretly been waiting for this day to finally arrive, Paikea Apirana acted as normal as possible. One of the major draws to the Vesuvius was her MAV capabilites and the cloak. It would be up to Paikea to make sure that both were always operating at one hundred percent efficiency.
"Computer begin a Level 5 diagnostic on all offensive and defensive system aboard the ship," Paikea ordered as he inputed his commands into his station," once that is done begin a deck by deck Level 3 diagnostic with the exception of the forementioned systems."
"Beginning Diagnostic now"
"Admiral, are these pirates an actual threat to the Vesuvius? I assumed these were your run of the mill pirates who would stand down once they saw a Starfleet vessel arrive."
(Sonak)
"Engaging cloaking device," Paikea said which was immediately followed by a noticeable drop in energy levels. Having never actually worked with a cloaking device in the past, Paikea was excited to have this opportunity to see how they actually worked. While nothing could completely make them invincible this was the closest they were ever going to get," all systems are reporting at nominal levels. The cloak as far as I can tell is working just fine."
(Sonak)
Once everyone was in place, Paikea began the seperation of the ship,"seperation in 4.3.2.1. All three modules forming into position. Distance 25 thousand meters."
(Sonak)
"Engaing cloaking device once again," Paikea said as he saw Mercury and Discordia vanish from the view screen. His sensors told him that everything was fine, but Paikea noticed that the power drain on the indiviual modules was significly higher when in MAV. While he was certain this was a known problem, Paikea would like to work on solving it.
"Admiral, I recommend we perform a few tactical excerise while in MAV formation," Paikea recommended," the ship has not been in combat for a while now and the best way to make sure everythign is working is to actually try it out."

"Admiral, are these pirates an actual threat to the Vesuvius? I assumed these were your run of the mill pirates who would stand down once they saw a Starfleet vessel arrive."
"We shall assume they are an actual threat," the Vulcan replied evenly, "intelligence has it that they are an organised group, hit-and-run as well as full-blown destruction. Some crews were murdered for their cargo, some obliterated with their vessels." She nodded once towards her security chief. "Engage cloaking device at your disgression."
"Engaging cloaking device, all systems are reporting at nominal levels. The cloak as far as I can tell is working just fine."
"As it should," Sonak replied, focusing her gaze back on the main screen. "We should be entering the system within two hours. Report once you pick up pirate activity, and let the Mayim government know of our presence as soon as we enter the system."
seperation in 4.3.2.1. All three modules forming into position. Distance 25 thousand meters."
"Acknowledged. Start targeting drills and keep distance to respective modules. Fire probes when ready." She tapped her combadge. "Parsons, break formation as soon as targeting bouys have been fired. Co-ordinate with Daya on attack pattern. Minerva will lead the way."
She settled back in her seat. "Commander Harper, take the helm if you please, and lead into attack pattern delta." She felt the inertia dampeners work as the primary module swerved hard to port, rolling over to avoid 'enemy fire', then settle back into position. "Are Mercury and Discordia complying with orders?" she asked of Paikea, "evaluate response time, then repeat."

Commander Daya you will command Discordia. Report when you are settled, so Commander Apirana can start his testing." Daya was excited that he would be in command, even if it was only of a section of ths ship. While he waited on the turbo lift he tapped his foot in anticipation. Stepping out to the Discordia command section, he was glad to see most of his crew had already arrived. "Good day to you all, lets have some fun"
Taking his seat, he tried his best to look like a captain would, and thought he was doing a good job, until his noticed a few of the crew looking at him. "What? not quite right?" He asked, to which they shook their heads, with a sigh he slouched a little and started calling out orders. "Get the cloacking device ready, and run a systems check over the Discordia." Daya smiled to himself when he felt the MVA seperation begin and shivered in excitement as he called out "Engage cloak"

Discordia "Engaging cloak," Ensign Caspar Quest acknowledged from the operations station on the tertiary bridge, "Minerva's acknowledging we disappeard from sensors. They're modifying to show us. Mercury's also acknowledging. We're to acknowledge modification of sensors sir."
Caspar Quest was a new addition to the crew, and at only twenty years, one of the younger officers aboard the Vesuvius. This was his first mission out in space and it was obvious he was both nervous and excited. "The admiral orders us to deploy targeting buoys," the young ensign continued, "oh and she orders us to fire at her module to have Paikea get a sense of evasive maneuvres. Mercury's to do the same."
(Daya, take it away!)
Mercury Jatan had joined Parsons on the bridge of the secondary module, eager to have some bridge experience again, after being stuck in sickbay for several missions on end. "Commander," he started, "pointing as Discordia disappeared off the main view screen, right after Minerva disappeared. "Please don't scratch the paint too much?" he pleaded playfully, "you know she won't be too thrilled with that."
Then his eye fell on the sensors on he science station. "Ensign, what is that?" he queried, curiosity in his eyes.
"That's another vessel," Ensign Jasmine Rogers answered the doctor, "look here, this is the identification signal." Then she looked up in alarm. "Commander Parsons, they're signaling distress!"
(Parsons, take Mercury to investigate. This is Savot's pirate vessel you're coming upon, we'll follow soon. Patch through the alarm to the other two modules. Methinks it's your module that'll get pinched, or mine. Daya, prepare for rescue mission once savot's done his bit)
Minerva Rear Admiral Sonak Reckus sat back in her seat, visibly pleased with the swift response from the other modules. "Commander Apirana, tell them good hunting, then prepare to jump to warp. You can choose whether to mask our trail or to leave some clues as to our wherabouts. As soon as we enter the system, jump out of warp and prepare an away team to deliver our supplies."
She tapped her combadge. "Logan have you been able to fix that variation you reported earlier?" she queried, "do you need assistance in engineering?" While she was no engineer, she made it a point to try and learn the other crafts aboard her vessel. Enough to get by and make minor repairs herself. And now, engineering had it's turn. She already had her fun in security a fair while ago.
(logan, we spoke about this I think....have fun!) (did I forget anyone??? oh yes, Captain Savot, have fun stealing...choice of module is yours...surprise us hm?)

Kerry-Anne stood in main sickbay without entirely much to do, the ship having been of course split in three for battle drills.
She wandered over to her desk and sat behind it she noticed a flashing icon indicating she had received a message, it had come in a while ago but it must have missed her attention. She opened the worded message and smiled as she saw it was from Tedak.
It said he had made it back and was missing her, she replied with the same sentiment before standing and going back to the main area.
A message came over the comm. Channel indicating that they were respinding to a distress call and she should prepare for casualties.
Rushing to prepare sickbay Kerry neglected to call in the extra staff until she had done most of the work herself.
OOC: I will be back to full posting power in two days so if someone could tag me to get me back in the story I would appreciate it thanks

"Aye, Admiral."
A junior officer at the Mercury bridge Ops station reported, "targeting buoys away."
"Very good," Parsons replied turning to his Conn officer and opening a channel to Commander Daya, "Initiate attack pattern delta, match course and speed with Minerva."
<TAG Daya>
"Commander," Dr. Reckus started, "pointing as Discordia disappeared off the main view screen, right after Minerva disappeared. "Please don't scratch the paint too much?" he pleaded playfully, "you know she won't be too thrilled with that."
Adam smiled, "We wouldn't want to do anything to upset the Admiral Doctor." Glancing around to the Tactical Officer, "Lieutenant, lock onto the Minerva and prepare to fire, and for God's sake remember who you're shooting at."
"Aye, Sir," came the reply.
Jatan then spoke up again. "Ensign, what is that?" he queried, directing his comments toward the science officer.
Helm, break off pursuit of the Minerva and set a course for that ship. Addressing the Tactical Officer again, "Lieutenant, please direct the other two modules to the distress signal. Advise the Admiral of our reason for breaking formation and request additional instructions.
"Science Officer, any other information about the vessel?"
<TAG All>
As the Mercury approaches the signaling vessel, "Unidentified vessel, this is Commander Parsons of the Starship Vesuvius, we are responding to your distress call, how can we assist?"
"Tactical, drop the cloak and prepare to raise shields, there could still be pirates on that ship, if they were the victims of a raid," Commander Parsons ordered.

"We are ready to go to warp," Paikea announced as he relayed his instructions to the navigation officer. Wanting to let the pirates know that a powerful Starfleet vessel had made its way to the system, Paikea decided that it wasn't necessary to mask their arrival.
"Apriana to Security Teams Alpha and Charlie prepare for an away mission, we'll be transporting down to the planet as soon as we arrive on the planet," Paikea said as he surrendered his station to one of the other tactical officers onboard.
"Commander, Mercury is no longer in position," the officer reported," it seems they are responding to a distress signal."
"Minerva to Mercury*, do you require assistance?"
(Parsons)
"Jackson scan the ship near Mercury," Paikea said as he made his way back to his console.
"Unable to do so, our sensors cannot penatrate their shields," Jackson replied.
"Admiral, what are your orders?" Paikea asked," we do not know if Mercury is in danger, but something is not right."
(Sonak)
*Corrected module hail, paikea is on minerva

Responding to the Admiral, Logan confirmed that the ablative armor situation had been addressed, but rewarned her of the possible power drains in the hull structure in the areas between the hulls.
With that, he typed up a presentation for the acting CO to explain his findings. Especially since the Mercury was vunerable on both top and bottom. Last thing he wanted to do was get the Module trashed, during a test run.
Entering the Battle Bridge, he stood silently listening to the chatter of the bridge crew. Scanning, he tried to spot Commander Parsons, as seeing him only in the Main Briefing Room. Watching a bunch of raw Starfleet members playing a new piece of hardware likes kids in a candy shop.
Waiting for the right moment, he tapped his fingertips on the PADD he was carrying. Shocked, Parsons almost stumbled from his perch, to the small snickers of the remaining bridge crew, including a small smirk from Jatan. Handing him the PADD, Logan waited as Parsons composed himself and put his hand out in introduction.
"Commander Parsons, Engineer Logan Byrne, reporting. Sorry for the shake-up, happens, I blend in. Here is the report I submitted to the Admiral about the possible fluxuations in the ablative armor skin of the sections between the hulls. Since we are the middle guy, it means more to us. I recommend re-routing some secondary power to the cloak, so we can keep the armor above 96%. If not, one good shot, and bang. I will be in Engineering, if you need me."
Turning towards the lift, he looked over his shoulder and said, "Hey, Commander, watch your back", with a sly smile.

As Skurr and Tysmur sat in one of the Nautilus' prisoner compartments, a signal came through from the bridge. Alf's sinister figure on the corridor's monitor elicited a small smile from the human pirate, "Still no sign of the Starfleet vessel, sir. If they're coming they're definitely cloaked."
Skurr smiled widened into a tooth-displaying grin, "And if they've got a cloaking device... soon we'll have a cloaking device. All right, Alf, we're gonna have to make them show themselves. Get into the open and have someone sent out a distress call from down here in the prisoner section; if the ship shows itself we fake a prisoner breakout and that'll provoke their humanitarian nature."
The hulking Lurian nodded then the screen in the hall went blank, and though he'd only had her a number of months Skurr could already tell just by the feel of the deck plates that the Nautilus was moving into the open to get spotted by the approaching Fleeters.
**************************************
Roughly half an hour later, the alert klaxons rang out through the Nautilus, and Alf's image reappeared on the hall monitor outside Skurr's cell as he patched through the bridge viewscreen's visual of a decloaking Federation starship... or rather a piece of one from the look of it. Skurr's eyes gleamed with controlled elation at this positive development, and listened with absolute enjoyment as the vessel's hail came in, =^=Unidentified vessel, this is Commander Parsons of the Starship Vesuvius, we are responding to your distress call, how can we assist?=^=
If you could sprain a grin muscle Skurr would've needed serious physical therapy at this point. Shaking his head in amused admiration he looked at Tysmur's beautiful form, "Did you hear that? Pure, unadulterated boyscout; if Starfleet hasn't already put that man on a recruitment poster they're missing out." He then turned back to the screen, in full business-mode swing now, "All right Alf, let's make it realistic."
The Starfleet vessel would now hear the frantic, frightened-for-her-life voice of Tysmur crying out over the opened comm-channel, =^=You have to help us, PLEASE! They've destroyed our ships and taken us as slaves you have to save us!!=^= Right on cue, Starfleet would immediately hear the enraged orders being barked from 'Captain' Alf, =^=FOOLS! Silence her at once, reinforce the containment fields and close that channel!=^=
Just before the channel closed to end the ruse Commander Parsons' bridge would be treated to the sound of a very real disruptor blast eliciting a most genuine scream from one of the female Orion captives just before she disintegrated. Skurr wasn't particularly bloodthirsty, but when you had to lie it was important to surround the lie with as much truth as possible to sell it, and that Orion slave had just died to make the sale.
Parsons' sensors would clearly read power being shunted from the Nautilus' main defensive shields to increase the prisoner containment fields. It wasn't needed to keep the prisoners captured, of course, but now that Starfleet knew there was at least a possibility that people were being held captive aboard this ship, they were likely to attempt a rescue.
Tysmur looked over at her mate in their shared cell, the playfulness having left her expression as she wasn't a particular fan of murder either but she knew it came with the business, "What now, Captain?"
"Now, one of two things will happen. Their shields are down right now as per standard Starfleet protocol when approaching a vessel in distress to allow for transport of wounded if necessary. They'll read that our shields are weak because we've transferred power to strengthen prisoner force fields. Depending on the gutsiness of this Commander they may leave their shields down for the moment hoping they can quickly disable our shield grid with some well placed shots then beam all of us 'captives' to the safety of their ship."
Skurr leaned against the wall, his eyes narrowed as was usual when focussing his strategic thought processes, and he crossed his arms as he continued, "If they succeed, they'll have a slew of female Orions' pheremones to create a bit of chaos, and of course you'll get all weepy with relief at being rescued and get us through their security personnel that way. Then, Alf'll relay the coordinates of their cloak over my subdermal communicator, we swipe it and either beam back off, hope Relk has his usual good timing to provide a distraction, or steal a shuttlecraft as a last resort."
At the mention of stealing a shuttle Tysmur did look over at him with a confused expression, "It's clearly one part of a larger ship; it probably has limited crew why not try to seize the entire thing instead of just the cloak?"
Skurr smiled, bowing his head slightly in admission that his love's idea was the more lucrative one, but then explained, "Because to take the ship, we either have to kill or make off with the entire crew. The amount of ire that would provoke from the Fleeters would far outweigh the potential value of the ship; whereas if we just take the cloak and make ourselves hard enough to find they might eventually give up", he flashed his characteristic grin again, "After all, there's no overly honorable Federation addage to 'Never leave a piece of sophisticated technical equipment behind.'"
Tysmur had that expression she always got when she was about to point out a flaw in his reasoning, and those moments were some of the ones that made him love her the most, and he again bowed his head acknowledging what she was about to say, "Not counting the Prime Directive, okay?"
Tysmur chuckled and gave her own nod, allowing Skurr the temporary triumph. His ability to admit if he was wrong was one of the things that had distinguished him as worthy of her affection, "Okay, so what's the other possibility?"
Skurr pushed himself off the wall with his left foot to begin slowly pacing back and forth within the cell, another sign that he was in full-tactical mode, "They play it safe, raise their shields and we have to slug it out with them. The Nautilus should be able to hold her own until Relk shows up with Farant and the others, we eventually wear their shields down and beam some people over to seize the cloak. We'll just have to make it fast before whatever other portions of their ship show up and make our attack more trouble than it's worth."
Tysmur pursed her lips in thought, quirked one of her eyebrows in consideration, then looked at Skurr as though he was unfathomable, "So there's a chance we won't even have to pose as captives... why are we in here?"
Skurr's near-incessant grin again dominated his countenance, "Dearest... half the fun is getting into the part."
<Tag all; especially Commander Parsons who gets bonus points for using the word scurvy :) >

"We shall flank Mercury," the Vulcan ordered, "remain cloaked but prepare to drop cloak if this proves to be a trap." She tapped her combadge. "Daya, hold off on drills, we have an emergency situation. Move to Mercury's starboard side, remain at aft and hold position. Stand by on transporters, we may need to evacuate the vessel."
Again, she tapped her combadge. "Doctor Kennedy, stand by on receiving casualties. We have stood down from drills and are responding to a distress signal." She paused briefly. "Jatan is standing by on Mercury, correllate triage with him. I believe Caldwell has gone to Discordia?"
She nodded once as the doctor responded, realising how illogical the response was as the doctor obviously could not see her nod. "If my expertise is needed, please do not hesitate to page me," she added. That too, was illogical as her presence obviously would be needed on the bridge."
"Move us in slowly Mark."
At the helm, Commander Mark Harper nodded, eager to have a hand at manual flying again. "Moving in slowly, cloak maintaining stability. Admiral, Mercury's ablative armour is showing signs of weakness."
Again, Sonak nodded. "Commander Byrne is aware," she answered, "he is quite likely already working on the problem.
From another direction, Relk slowly approached his captain's vessel. They had rescued Farant, though she was currently confined to her quarters. T'Ran and Farant would've gotten into a fight then and there on his bridge, as the two women were complete opposites and even rivals.
The Tellarite grunted with pleasure, he would've loved to see the women fight. "Rantou, distance to Skurr's vessel?"
"We're just outside the Starfleet vessel's scanning range," Rantou offered instead of answering the question. "I'm getting a few very odd readings. I see one ship, but I'm getting a few sensor anomalies."
T'Ran approached, leaning her hand on the young Human's shoulder, her cheek close to his as she leaned in. She felt the warmth of the young man's skin so close to hers and smirked. He was blushing, she realised, leaning in a little further, the tip of her ear brushing past his temple. "Those aren't anomalies," she reported, "that's a vessel under cloak. Skurr had better know what he's doing, this vessel isn't capable of coming to his rescue!"
The Romulan pulled back and glared at the Tellarite. "You're not going to do this."
"Oh but I am," Relk spat back, "once he makes a move, I'll make mine. We'll have them where we want them. Trust me!"
"Hah," Rantou joined in, his face bright red, "in a pig's eye!"
Relk leveled his disruptor. "Say that again Rantou, and I'll blow you to smithereens. Now, if we succeed, you can have your choice of the women in the cargohold."
Rantou's blush deepened but he said nothing. He felt T'Ran's stare on the back of his head. She obviously knew how he felt about her, but it was clear the feelings weren't mutual. Possibly because she was twice his age.
"Children," T'Ran murmured as she resumed her station. "The Federation vessel is lowering its shields, be ready."
The waiting came could commence.

Parsons tried to respond to the Minerva's transmission, but there seemed to be some kind of subspace interferences.
Commander Byrne had somehow snuck up on the Mercury commander and tapped him on the shoulder. Parsons turned a bit startled, and Byrne gave a report that was even more startling. Mercury was apparently not equally armored on the surfaces that were generally interior.
"Thank you for your report, Commander, but I have just given the order to drop the cloak and raise shields, so for the time being, we should be protected. I will note this deficiency during the rest of the mission and request a refit through proper channels."
Byrne the left the bridge.
Parsons soon heard a frantic voice over the comm, "You have to help us, PLEASE! They've destroyed our ships and taken us as slaves you have to save us!!"
As Commander Parsons was about to respond, he heard the "FOOLS! Silence her at once, reinforce the containment fields and close that channel!" This was followed by the sound of a disruptor blast and the scream of female.
"Commander, it looks like their power is being diverted from their main defensive shields to increase prisoner containment fields," the Ops officer reported.
"Red Alert. Unidentified captors, I would like to speak to whomever is in charge. This Commander Adam Parsons of the United Federation of Planets."
<TAG Savot>
Turning to his tactical officer, "Lieutenant, can we bring down their shields?"
"In their weakened state, I think we can, Sir."
"Bridge to transporter rooms, prepare to receive casualties. Security teams to transporter rooms. Medical teams standby outside all transporter rooms. Transporter operators make sure all incoming weapons are deactivated."
A few moments later Parsons verified the weakened state of the ship's shields and issued the order, "Open fire, Lieutenant."
Phaser fire lit up the viewscreen.
"Their shields are down," replied Lieutenant Collison at tactical.
"Lower shields and begin transport. Lieutenant direct fire at their weapons systems, I don't want a shooting match."
"Aye, Sir," replied the tactical officer.
"Doctor Sonak, please coordinate the medical teams," Parsons ordered.
