The mission was over the ending was less then perfect but what were you going to do. They had made it through the battle but at what cost some would say it was to high others my not. It wasn't' his job to wieght the value of the mission in life lost it was the people higher up who did that.
He had heard Commander Jackson would be taking some leave or something on DS9 which did sit pretty well with him. Since there last meeting his respect for her had gone done, while he respected her postion he didn't have alot of respect for the person. That would be something they would need to work on at some point. Still the thought of not having to deal with it right now was a welcome one as he headed for his office and a pile of paper work that was building by the moment. Sometimes being in charge just wasn't that much fun then again it did have its moments.

Stepping through the main sickbay to find the Captain exactly where the computer told her he would be Jackson offered a slight bow of her head and watched the changeling Daen leave she took a breath and said, “His continued presence is going to ruffle some feathers, on this ship and in headquarters and no doubt the Great Link.. but it is a step in the right direction, for Starfleet and the Founders.”
Savot tilted his head slightly and nodded his own agreement, "Indeed, and while I shall certainly abide by Starfleet's decision should they choose to refuse his request, I believe much would be gained by both parties through such a direct cooperation."
Stepping slightly aside so that Captain Savot could make for the exit Stacey walked beside him and continued. “You know Captain right about now I would give my left leg to be given just a simple survey mission.. higher powers sure know we have earned it.”
Fortunately Savot's contact with non-vulcans and his own efforts to limit any unnecessary stuffiness on his part enabled him to refrain from commenting that the loss of Commander Jackson's left left would hinder her ability to lead an away team on such a survey. He realized what the statement was intended to convey and agreed with her on the matter, "Indeed. Although missions of this risk caliber are to be expected given our class of starship, we do tend toward a disproportionate amount of danger during our assignments."
The vulcan accepted the damage report padd from her as she resumed speaking, “Considering what happened it could have been a whole lot worse.. A personal request Captain when we turn over our prisoners to Deep Space Nine I would like depart the ship while you make the final lap of our journey.. I have private matters that need attending to.. and I can be picked up on the way back.”
"Very well Commander, request granted. With the El Salvador in a single piece once more there is a less immediate need for the presence of both command officers. Is there any assistance we could provide?", naturally Savot recalled the instance with her son's health and shared in the others' desire to render aid though there was little they could do to affect the situation. Jackson replied that no help was necessary and Savot bowed his head slightly in acknowledgement before they split paths at the turbolift.
***********************************************
Having transferred their prisoners to Deep Space 9 for questioning and eventual trial for assaulting a Federation starship and members of her crew, the El Salvador continued through the Bajoran Wormhole exitting into the distant, by conventional means of propulsion, Gamma Quadrant to make the last leg of their journey to the Founder homeworld.
Savot had called a meeting of the senior staff in the briefing room, with Lynn and Daen also in attendance and Armus connected via video console from the shuttlebay. "Despite, or even partly due to, the unfortunate attack and attempted usurpation of Armus' powers he is willing to continue with our intended mission and join us on our homeworld. There is a small land mass upon which he can remain separate from the totality of the Great Link and get used to merging with a few of us at a time. This gradual process will also allow the Link to 'digest' if you will the feelings of the rogue Raithas that remain within me and help the entire Link to better understand Armus' suffering and better facilitate his inclusion into the Link in as gentle a way as possible", Lynn summarized.
She continued, glancing over at Daen who wore an almost sheepish or shy look, "We will arrive at the homeworld in just over an hour at which point the Link will be apprised of the current situation and render a decision on Daen's request to stay aboard your vessel."
Savot nodded and chimed in, "Admiral Mc7_of_9 has relayed the request to Starfleet Command and it has been provisionally granted on our end. If the Great Link agrees to it as well Daen will be welcome to accompany us for an as-yet indeterminate period of time. As a precaution for both himself and our crew someone will have to be present with him at any time he leaves his quarters. It need not be a security officer, any of the ship's personnel will be suitable and I understand he has developed a rapport of sorts with Commander Hope."
"We will enter orbit of the Founder homeworld in 72.4 minutes; all officers be at your stations no more than 1 hour from now for the final approach. Upon our return through the wormhole we will allow the Admiral to depart at Deep Space 9 to be transported back to his post and we will ascertain whether Commander Jackson is able to return aboard. Until then, dismissed", Savot concluded the briefing and left his people to their own devices until they reached their destination after what seemed like a much longer journey than it had actually been.

"Much to the dismay of my husband," S'reena chuckled in response, "though I think they've reconciled. Daen has offered to merge with Michael too and I think he'll consent. In the mean time I do propose that he doesn't merge with too many people."
She paused as Auric shifted on her shoulder. "I shall be happy to take responsibility for Daen," she offered. "Though he'll need his own quarters I have no doubt he'll spend much time either with me or with my family. My daughter Yarna has taken a liking to him."
Again, the Romulan paused, deliberating her next words. "All of you know my daughter has an empathic gift. She doesn't attach to people that can't be trusted, so, based on her behaviour I do believe that this particular Founder can be trusted. However, I do agree that he shouldn't be allowed to wander the ship alone, until he's proven himself."
S'reena smiled thinly. "After all, we can't take the feelings of a six year old at face value, right?"

He listened to what there captain had to say, he still had concerns about the mission but left that unsaid. It wasn't his call or his choice on what would happen to Armus hopefully things would work out.
"Sir small question about Armus and his saftey on the Founders homeworld. Will they beable to protect him in case somebody else comes looking for him. Recent events suggest that Armus would be a powerful weapon for somebody and since the war I"m not aware of the Founders ability's to protect them selves. I do not mean to insult them I'm just want to make sure they can keep peoples noses out there business "
" After what I have seen with his ability to restore power I"m just alittle concerned about what somebody else might want to do with that"

“Well Admiral I am unsure of what I can say that would alleviate your concerns, I believe my record speaks for itself.” Jackson’s tone was respectful but defensive.
Jenkins gave a slight nod. “Commander while we have our concerns your dedication is not in question your skill and background are, and while this may be unpleasant for you please remember we are holding this meeting of your ship on your request.”
A slight frown crossed her face and she looked down at the table. “I didn’t want Commodore Savot nor the crew to have to take up my battles for me Admiral, and I don’t think it would help me any with the crew if they thought headquarters needed to check up on me.”
Admiral Jenkins raised his eyebrows at her words and replied. “Your battles? Interesting way to put it Commander, we have some of your mission reports here, can you please explain why you allowed commodore Savot to be arrested and held in detention?”
Stacey sat up straighter and took a breath, not needing to read her won reports to remember the incident she answered. “The Prime Directive dictates we abide by the laws foreign governments, at the time they had evidence that The explosive device was indeed planted by the Federation and Captain Savot being responsible for his crew allowed himself to be arrested, once the truth was revealed I launched a rescue mission.”
A simple nod was all she received in reply nothing more could be ascertained from the Admirals face, however Jackson’s telepathic abilities meant she didn’t need to rely on facial movements to gain an insight into another’s thoughts and emotions. Nothing she picked up from his mind left her feeling optimistic and she settled in her seat realising it may be a long day.
The two Captains and the Admiral on the other hand exhibited no signs of boredom and fired questions at Jackson for the better part of four hours, after all was said and done the three men were no more convinced than when they started and Jackson a little bitter she had been put through it.
She stood and tugged down on her tunic. “There may be no way to convince you in this room that I am perfectly suited for my position and for that I am sorry, however unless you intend to remove me from said position I believe there is nothing more to be said.”
Jenkins stood and nodded slowly. “Agreed Commander, you are free to return to your ship and duties when they re-enter the quadrant we however shall be keeping an eye on your performance.. Dismissed.”

Savot's expression softened ever so slightly at the mention of Commander Hope's daughter Yarna. "As a matter of procedural protocol, six year olds' character judgements are not the sole basis for decisions. However, while Miss Yarna does not yet possess the experience that the rest of us do, in some ways that renders her sense purer than ours as it is not as subject to learned bias. Daen will be escorted as stated, and I appreciate your family's willingness to assist in this matter."
Next, Colonel K'ratak added his concerns regarding Armus. "I understand and share your concern regarding the potential of Armus' power, but I believe the Founders may be the best equipped to keep Armus from being seized in a similar manner to that we witnessed. An entire planet of sentient, interconnected shapeshifters would be impossible for an individual to breach unless they already possess power beyond our imagining in which case Armus would be pointless to them", Savot began.
"Worst case scenario, if there was a power capable of breaching the Founders' combined defenses they would be able to completely dissolve Armus within their collective to such an extent that he would be unable to ever again withdraw from the Link as a separate being, and in so doing his powers would forever be lost to anyone including those trying to steal them", the vulcan concluded, dismissing his officers for the final approach to the Founder homeworld.
*******************************************
When the time came to beam down, Armus gave a brusk but genuine thank you to the El Salvador's captain, but Lynn took a moment to say some lengthier goodbyes. She began with the Klingon Marine, "Colonel, I am pleased we were able to see one another again after the attack. Though you insisted upon it I truly did not believe I would survive. It appears a Klingon's word is capable of influencing even mathematical probability; thank you for your protection."
<Any K'ratak response>
Bowing slightly to the Colonel, she then made her way to her changeling companion, giving a slight bow of her head to Daen, "Your request to remain here has been granted by the Link... do take care of yourself Daen." Her expression was something akin to a worried older Aunt, but Lynn knew he would find much more fulfillment personally experiencing the wonders of the universe than merely osmosing them from other changelings.
She liquefied her right hand and raised it to join his, "Try to temper your eagerness with wisdom." And she shared with him exactly that: her own long-acquired experience and sense of patience. Afterwards, another parting bow was given and Lynn said a group-farewell to all the gathered officers and she and Armus transported down to the small solid outcropping on the homeworld's surface to begin whittling down the ages of abandonment Armus had faced to see what, if anything, remained preserved at his core.
