Edwin Daris:
Cold green blood coursed though his veins. Edwin's skin was almost gray, but that was his "condition" since birth. He was a very bitter teen and only lightened up because he was the type that being angry made him tired. Rage is a volatile thing, but used properly it can be the engine that get thing's done quickly and efficiently. Luckily today the ease of the muscles in his face were not a deception, he was not happy but he was OK.
Med. Cadet Daris walked into the bakery headed for the replicator station ordered a cup of coffee and sat down at a table reading a PADD about the latests and greatest in medical advances. 'Hmm' he thought 'they have come up with a way to set nerve endings from an severed arm to a prosthesis instead of using brain impulses. What will they think up next? A bio mechanical miracle in my life time' not that he thought he would die as soon as the other humans setting in here laughing and cramming there mouth full of sweets. Edwin decided to head back to his quarters the smell of them was almost more than he could bear.

“Ah, Commander K’ratak. I’m Marshall Stone, at your service. I’m just the XO around here but I’m sure you knew that already.” Marshall sat down just in time when he heard a female voice come up to him.
"A Marrrrinnne.." she said, drawing out the word cutely, and finishing with a wink. She giggled. "What can I get for you?"
Marshall just wanted a simple ham sandwich after which K’ratak complained about the sweet taste of the éclair he had just eaten. The waitress offered water, but then had the sudden idea for the two of them to join her for some good coffee in another establishment. Her shift would be over in thirty minutes.
She had left the two of them alone as she went to retrieve their orders, and bustled about fixing a couple of other orders from unhappy customers. Marshall was halfway listening to K’ratak as he was more intent on watching this intriguing Bajoran.
The server soon came back with their orders. "Here you go." She smiled at the Commander as she set down the drink, almost missing the table with the glass. It sparked her back to reality, and she paid extra attention to Stone's order. "And here youuuuuu go." She sat it down perfectly.
"If you need me I'll be right over there!" She pointed with with one finger toward the counter while the other hand held the tray. She grabbed the tray with both hands, and made her way back to the counter, swaying the tray side to side playfully as she walked.
“I think she likes you, Colonel.” Marshall grabbed a hold of his sandwich before he replied. “Yeah, I think I like her too…for about an hour.” With a wink he took a bite as K’ratak washed his palette down with water.
Soon a cadet inquired if he could join them. Personally, Marshall didn’t care to be mingling with cadets, but he didn’t pick his current position, and this one was a marine as well...so he had to resign himself. “Sure, come and join us. This is Commander K’ratak. I’m Colonel Stone, the XO of this Academy base here. Tell us, what brings you way out here to S47?”
<Quinn/Edwin come join us too...>

Looking back up to see cadet Quinn asking if he could join them. He wasn't sure what to say until Colonel stone answered for them. He like the idea of getting coffee and thought the Colonel stone had a good sense of humor.
The idea of getting coffee later with kayla was intersting he found her to be useful. Although he was going to have to remember to tell her next time nothing to sweet. Whatching Cadet Quinn take a seat. Realizing that it would most likely be his ship the cadet went on for his trainning mission. He thought it was a good idea to get to know him, not to mention he saw other cadets coming in which meant they would be on his ship as well he motioned them over. <Edwin join in>
Looking back at the colonel " So tell me somthing colonel if you dont mind me asking. Do you miss the ship life, I mean star bases are fun but its not a ship" <Tag Stone.
Looking at Quinn " What about you cadet, are you looking forward to your first tour aboard a star ship" <Tag Quinn>

With her shift almost at an end, she returned to the table, which had doubled in size. Instead of just a Klingon and Human, added was a fair skinned Romulan looking Cadet, and a ... well, Kayla never saw the likes of the fourth Cadet, leading to her blunt question. "What are you?" she asked. When he gave a funny look back, she re-asked. "What type of alien are you? I've never seen anyone like you before." What the Bajoran girl lacked in tact she made up for in looks. The question was about as straight forward as one could get, and everyone looked at each other in a bewildered manner as Quinn answered. "I didn't mean anything by it." She nudged him in he shoulder with her fist, beaming with a smile as she did so. "I'm about to head out, I have a phone call I need to make again." She dodged all attempts to ask who she would be calling. "I want to apologize, I won't be going to the Starquake tonight," she let out the characteristic frown that was only emitted when she was thinking about her father. "I have some business to attend to. We'll have to do coffee another time. I'll be back though. I work the early shift tomorrow, which I hate because I don't have time to get ready." It was obvious that the girl obsessed over her looks, and nobody would be surprised if she told them that it took her two hours to get ready every day. All the modern technology in the universe could not make the voluptuous 19 year old completely satisfied with her looks. It was her character flaw, even though society did not penalize her for it. "So, what'll it be for the new guys?" She turned her padd on, ready to take some last orders before she left.

“Sure, come and join us. This is Commander K’ratak. I’m Colonel Stone, the XO of this Academy base here. Tell us, what brings you way out here to S47?” Stone asked him.
"Thank you, I'm Cadet Dawnthief, and as you can probably guess, I'm here for my training mission, hoping to be a Marine." Quinn replied, a bit suprised that practically the first person he had met at the station was the XO.
"What about you cadet, are you looking forward to your first tour aboard a star ship" the Klingon asked Quinn following on from the question he had just asked Stone.
"I'm certain it will be an experience, I am definately looking forward to it." Quinn saw the waitress approaching, analysing the table, and giving a very long look at him.
"What are you?" she asked. Quinn gave her a weird look so she re-asked. "What type of alien are you? I've never seen anyone like you before." Quinn laughed and then replied.
"I'm an Aasimar, not many of us in Starfleet, and I believe im the first to be stationed here."
"I didn't mean anything by it."
"Thats ok, if only everyone was as straight forward as you." Quinn smiled back at her, she was quite pretty for a human, and it was quite obvious to him that she had eyes for Marshall Stone.
"So, what'll it be for the new guys?" The waitress asked as she turned her padd on.
"Hmm, suprise me." It was her turn to give him a weird look. "Fine then, make it your most popular dish, and a hot chocolate, my cousin says that stuffs amazing."

Simon left sickbay hoping to get a few minutes of peace before he had to return, as the Medical department had no chief Simon had taken over as the senior most medical officer on board. Making his way to the bakery he smelt the normal smell of sweet cakes and fresh pastries, walking in he ordered his usual “one bagel, like normal and a coffee please” as Simon waited he noted a marine seating across the room, collecting his order he made his way over.
“Well you must be Colonel Stone, I am Doctor Simon Barnes from the Hepta and I would like to remind you again that the base needs a new chief medical officer. I do not mind chipping in every once in a while but I am not becoming chief medical officer on both a ship and a star base” it was at this point that Simon noted his fellow instructor and the two cadets. “Ah, I apologise to you, I did not notice you where there Commander K’ratak, and cadets?” Simon looked for help as he did not recognise the cadets.
<Tag Stone/K’ratak/Cadet>
“Well, a medical cadet, I hope you will pop down to sickbay we could always do with another hand, my name is Commander or Doctor Simon Barnes, the chief medical officer aboard the USS Hepta and also a medical instructor, it is nice to meet you” Simon offered his hand to the cadets.

"Your eclair, sir." she said, placing it front of the Aasimar. She found herself slightly giggling the first time she heard the name. She had honestly thought that the Cadet had said something entirely different; amusingly different.
"Do you have an account on the Starbase yet?" he looked confused, so Kayla looked at Colonel Stone. "Did you set up his rations account?" she grew a little frustrated with the group. They were a fun group of guys, but she really wanted to end her shift, and they were starting to hold her up.
"Oh - who do we have here?" she asked while waiting for Colonel Stone to reply. "I am pretty sure we met before, but just in case, the name is Kayla." she curtsied. She would have offered a hand to use for a greeting, but they were full with a payment padd in one hand, and a tray in the other. Doctor Barnes was new to the table, and Kayla was pretty keen on her acquaintances. It didn't take long for her to discover that she had met him before.
"That must have been before I was a waitress here," she looked over her shoulder to the counter. Neither Tante Maria nor Uncle Max could be seen, which was good, considering it was once again taking her longer than it should to simply take an order and fulfill it. She wasn't paid to socialize. She felt the need however, since having no friends on the base left a crimp in her social lifestyle she had been accustomed to on prior starbases.
"Is it taken care of?" she asked Stone, who was handing her a padd. She balanced the first padd under her chin to grab the second. "Excellent!" she dropped the padd from her chin to the tray, and placed the other one on the tray beside it. Placing her hand on the Colonel's shoulder as she spoke, she commented, "I didn't think it would be a problem. I'm outta here, boys." Her shift could finally be over. She turned to go back to the counter, brushing up against his side as she walked by.
Eventually, after cleaning up, she started walking out of the bakery. She slowed as she reached the door, and feigned an itch on her back to gain the excuse of turning around to see if anyone was watching. To her displeasure, nobody was. The officers and cadets were too enthralled in their conversations to see her departure.

As Med. cadet Edwin Daris headed for the door in disgust, he saw something that almost made him feel normal, almost... A Klingon in a Starfleet uniform motioned his hand for Edwin to join him, he thought 'Well it's not a sympathy ploy, there's no way he knows what I am.' He slipped his PADD in his pocket taking another sip of coffee, walked over and sat down. He thought about how he looked setting there, not very confident. He through his arm over the top of his chair, spread his legs apart a little more than shoulder width, one leg to the side of his chair, stared right into the Klingon's eyes and with his half human teeth showing he smiled and said "Edwin Daris. How are you Sir?." go ahead Ed cheese it up for the Klingon.
Before the commander could answer the CMO of the Hepta Barged in and rattled off something about needing help in sickbay and stuck out a hand. Edwin accepted the hand and introduced himself and offered his assistance. "I'll head down there now." he said offering only a good day to the others at the table and promptly walked out. He entered a turbo lift, "Deck 17, Sickbay.'' That was the command the computer chirped and the lift hummed to life. A second later the doors opened and there he was. He treated a plasma coil burn, two sprained ankles in the first forty.
Two large figures stand behind a man in a red collard uniform. The Uniformed officer informs Daris that these two visitors will have to have physicals before they are given free roam of the station. "yes sir. will do." Edwin ansered. Curses rang out in Edwin's head, his green blood boiling, his teeth grinding, that vein in his neck twitching and his forehead seemed to look more like his fathers right now. Two Nausicans were on there way to sickbay Via site to site transport, and Daris never met a nausican that was OK, or that smelled OK. "Allright gentlemen i need one of you to wait out side the room for me but don't leave sickbay." not that they could, the computer would still see them as intruders and the sensors would not activate the doors wile they were near by."Why do you need us sep-orite Hue-mon?" the bigger Nausican said trying to look intimidating. "Because if I feel threatened Section 4417 of Interstellar law says that I can vaporise you, and I would hate to have an accident here in sickbay." the Nausicans puffed up a little more but not knowing that Edwin was bluffing he backed into the other room, and the other Nausican sat on the table so Edwin could scan him.
Cadet Daris had two reports for two healthy Nausicans that smelled like Klingon targs that had been roting in a Rigelian reclamation barge for a week. 'Healthy but stinky.'was in the notes. He turned to wipe a bead of sweat off his brow as he noticed he had two more patients. "How can I help you?" One was a man the other a young woman. She said I'm here to have the baby checked on, it the third month. She didn't show at all she was skinny as a phaser beam. Edwin grabbed the Natal scanner and sat her in a comfortable chair the computer took 30 or so Holographic shots of the fetus and displayed it on the viewer next to the chair. It looked like a peanut, then Ed zoomed in and they could see the big black eyes that had begin to protrude out of the baby's head and small tail at the end of the baby's spine.
The entire shift went by quickly(well maybe a little slow with the Nausicans.) Edwin handed the couple an Isoleniar chip with the holo data on it and sent them on there way. He was exhausted and left sickbay to return to his quarters for some rest. His eyes felt heavy his back sore, he thought to him self the Romulans must be a nurturing race too, because he didn't feel like his human side was to strong. He was an angry man most of the time, but that time with the to be parents looking at there to be soon baby son, he couldn't help but feel joy or happiness or something good-ish. Edwin Daris pondered about that for a few seconds as his conciseness slipped away.

~ Do I miss the ship life he asks me…ha!~ Marshall showed no emotion as he smiled to himself on the inside. He couldn’t let on what his past consisted of…not really. “Commander, let’s just say I had some good times before here. Of course bad times came with that, but the good outweighed the bad.” Marshall fell silent as the Commander redirected to the cadet.
Soon, the civilian waitress approached again. Marshall enjoyed her directness when she wanted to know the species of the cadet. Everyone shook their head or said ‘Ah’ as he explained.
Marshall hid his disappointment about Kayla’s reneging on the coffee invitation, but everyone was soon distracted as a doctor approached them, mentioning to Marshall the need for a CMO on this starbase. “Well doctor, we all do what we can. Until then…both the starbase and the ship will enjoy your expertise in the medical field.” It was a sly remark and Marshall made sure it was received as such. The doctor didn’t bite as he wisely moved onto another conversation.
Kayla soon returned when she asked about the new cadet’s base account, the one she nearly mispronounced the name into an embarrassment. “I don’t handle cadet accounts, that’s the Quartermasters job. Tell you what dear, you can put it on my account.” He handed over his PADD for her to access.
Kayla’s hand on his shoulder hardly went unnoticed as she handed his PADD back. She had finally excused herself as she returned to the back of the counter…with Marshall’s gaze following her rear all the way. His gaze fell upon her once more as she had passed by to leave. He noticed her arm reaching behind her and he knew better as Marshall quickly turned around to not let her know he might indeed have an interest in her. ~It’ll just have to wait.~ He silently thought as he listened to the rest of the conversations.

Cadet 4th class McLeod sounded great to Ainsleigh. She'd received her quarters assignment and uniforms and proceeded to unpack and get organizied. Someone obviously already occupied the other bed, so she took the other one, not really caring which she had.
She had time to kill and decided to take a look around the academy and get her bearings. It was all a bit overwhelming to a kid from an agrarian society on a frontier planet. Finding herself saluting almost everybody, Ainsleigh chose to hightail it out of there and shortly came upon Tanta Marie's Bakery.
Stepping through the door and scanning the room, she quickly realized she might have made a mistake. She found herself staring at a Klingon, the first she'd ever seen in real life. He seemed bigger then in the vids.
Sensing she was drawing stares of her own, she headed for an open table where she could sit with her back to the wall and observe. As she sat, most returned to there own conversations. Instinct and training had taught her to have the wall against her back. Watching her surroundings was second nature. Her homeworld wasn't all green pastures and sheep. Clan intrigue could be a killer.
Hungrier then she'd thought, she picked up a menu and started to read....

Listening to Colonel Stone answer " Sometimes I think permotions are more curses then they are grand. One day I know I will no longer serve on a ship but I hope its a long ways off"
Looking up he saw doctor Barnes, he didn't look t happy. He couldn't blame him for his mood lately he had been pulling double duty. " Why good doctore why dont you join us, we were just discussing if permotions were great or just curses."
Why he waited for the doctor to respond he study the cadets and saw the new enter. He watched her scan the room and pick a seat with its back to the wall. Making eye contact with her he motoined her over to join them. <Tag aibsleighmcleod join in>
Then speaking up to make sure she heard him. " Cadet why dont you join us, there are no enemys hear at the moment."

Polly approached the Klingon instructor. "Can I join in too commander?" she asked carefully. She turned to the cadet. "Hi, I'm Polly Edwards. I ah...don't have a specific function here other than being the captain's wife."
At K'ratak's nod, she arranged her skirts and sat down, looking sad-faced. "Thomas is still comatose," she told the Klingon, wiping the tears from her cheeks, "and he's not showing any change. The doctor still doesn't know why he suffered the heart attack he did, as hes still very young. I'm so worried K'ratak, what should I do?"
She looked over at Barnes, who didn't look all too happy either. She knew he'd been injured on his last mission, due to a freak accident caused by their first officer, but he seemed all right. "You're worried too aren't you doctor?" she asked, tapping Barnes' arm, "isn't there anything you can do? He'll be al right won't he? Thomas will wake up again and be all right?"
Polly had grown from a spoilt brat to a caring young woman, something even TJ Edwards couldn't deny. She had seen him look at her with a certain amount of pride, when he must've thought she wouldn't notice. She knew he was starting to care for her, even if he didn't love her. But she was a properly devoted wife, and she truly cared for her husband. Like he cared for his instructors.
Again, she turned to the cadet. "I'm sorry," she sniffed, "my husband suffered a heart attack, and I'm very worried about him. But don't mind me, why don't you tell us something about yourself?"

Ainsleigh caught the Klingon's eye contact and realized she had no escape. Walking towards the table, she saw that the Commander had the best defensive seat so sidled up to the open seat next to him.
When the Captain's wife introduced herself, she nodded and acknowledged her introduction adding in return, "Ainsleigh McLeod," a smile appearing, "Cadet 4th class McLeod.". She gave each man at the table direct eye contact. She wasn't going to let them see how uncomfortable she was. Already she'd blushed earlier in the day and had chided herself for allowing her public mask to slip.
Normally an easy-going girl who seemed to have a knack for finding herself in the wrong place at the wrong time, her childhood had trained her to be aware of strangers at all times. They weren't your friends.
At the news of the woman's husband's condition, "I'm sorry to hear that, hope all goes well. They can do so much these days," she rattled off the required condolences.
Ainsleigh knew she looked younger then her twenty years, but the uniform told those at the table she was old enough to be here. Hesitant to give much of her own background, she sidestepped the question, "Just arrived here and waiting for the next training class to begin."

"Seems like I am called, though I cant think why, I'm not one who knows much about medicine. Was good to meet you, I'm sure I'll be seeing you around the base before my first mission." Quinn stood up and shook the others hands, then headed off to sickbay.

Marshall had enough of the small talk. The momentary object of his desire had left, and the area was getting too crowded with cadets for him.
"Well work never stops. If you folks will excuse me, I need to run. Enjoy yourselves, and good luck to you cadets in your training."
Everyone said their good-byes as marshall stepped onto the promenade wondering if he could locate Kayla. Nah, there'll be a next time. He said to himself as he headed for his office instead.

Listening to Polly after everthing was still a little odd for him. Although she had proven her self every chance she got. " Polly I think the captain would want you to be strong, after all you said that the doctors couldn't explain, so let me tell you what we klingons beleave, Sometimes death jumps the gun and comes to early. We know that there are things left undone and that we need to finish them. When death strikes we fight back and stop him it takes alot of strenght to do that. I think are young captain has the strenght needed to do that. He has stopped death from taking him and he's resting and trying to come back." Pausing " I know you have this same strenght and that you need to be strong and never doubt the he will be back"
After watching Colonel Stone give his excuse to leave. He wasn't buying that it was dutie but had something to do with the waiters.
" Well Cadets it would seem we have some time on our hands and I know holodeck that needs to be put throught its paces. Do any of you feel up to a challenge and wanting to take risk this is after not for the weak."<Tag anybody who wants to join in>
Looking at each of the cadets waiting to see who would say yes. In trueth he would have been shocked if one of the said no, he didn't know them well yet but they show courage already sitting with the senior staff.

Ainsleigh didn't know if it was excitement or sheer terror that had her blood pumping at the mention of a holodeck training with the Klingon Commander. Her mind racing, certainly he was aware that she'd just arrived and hadn't even been assigned a ship!
"Yes Sir, I'd love take that challenge!" came her immediate answer. She took great care not to show any sign of nerves.
McLeod realized the Commander's time was important and not every cadet would get such personal attention. It wouldn't do to waste such an opportunity. Besides she believed her training had started the moment she set foot on the station.

"I'm a sciencce officer, Sir," McLeod responded to K'ratak. The look he gave her reminded Ainsleigh about something she'd read about Klingons, they eat their food live. As pale as the redhead's complection was, she just got several shades whiter.
The 5'2" girl, weighing all of a 45 kilograms had a stubborn streak in her. Chin held high, "and I look forward to working with you.".

Ainsleigh stood and said, "I'll be there," and left to return to her quarters to change and prepare for this.
She hoped that she had portrayed an air of nonchalance, as if Klingon commanders asked her to do this all the time. Thinking to herself, ~I wonder what my chances are for the amory to give me a phaser. ~
