"She looks so peaceful." L'Ola noted, smiling.
Lucy grimaced, "Sure, now she does. You should have seen her half an hour ago."
The two Kanz girls were heading down to the Science labs, the younger taking Louise to see her parents.
"So they have a cure then?"
"Sounds like it. They wouldn't have said so if they weren't 100%, you know what Kat's like."
She got a laugh in reply, "Yeah, and I think it's even starting to rub off on Jason." Lucy checked that Louise was still looking reasonably happy before she walked into science lab 2.
Katia looked over as soon as the door opened, "Ooh, choices, choices." She looked at L'Ola, "Nope, sorry, she wins." She walked over to Lucy and picked her daughter up.
"Do you want the report now or when Commander Fox gets here?"
"I am very impressed, you're actually offering to show me work. So impressed that I have to say I want to see it. Besides, from what I understand Fox came up with the principle of the thing anyway." L'Ola took the padd that Jason was holding out for her.
Lucy giggled, "You'll never get your hand back now."
Louise had managed to fall asleep with her arms wrapped around her mother's arm. "I think I'd better take her home soon." Katia decided.
The door to the lab opened and Fox walked in, followed only a few moments later by Sonak.
"Okay," Katia sighed, "Maybe we'll stay for a little longer."

"Just be grateful that Commander Jared was able to prove that the nuts you consumed were never going to grow into Treewoods, otherwise you would be spending the rest of your life in a Treewood prison."
"Yes, I'll thank him later," he said as they left the Brig. A junior officer came in and said something about finding a cure, and Sonak left quickly, commenting she'd be in one of the Science labs.
Meanwhile, Nephi went to Engineering, having not been there in a few days. When he walked in, Sarah very visibly sighed in relief. "I may have wanted you dead at point," she said rather loudly, "but you can have your job back!" she said, waving in exasperation at the room.
Nephi came closer. "What, have there been problems while I was gone?"
"Just the Treewoods. I had to keep our power output to a certain level, which was no picnic. I had every power systems specialist in here pulling double-shifts to make sure the power grid stayed where it was supposed to. How am I not supposed to have any unexpected power output when the Treewoods don't even have half the systems on this ship?!" she said, checking something on a console.
"Indeed," Nephi said calmly. "My prison cell was guarded by reinforced glass, and I highly doubt there was any form of electronic security at all. From what I can tell they have no shield or force-field technology whatsoever."
"So what was it like being in a Treewood prison?" Carl asked as he came over to join them.
"Humid, damp, and wet. Not to mention the fact that the floor was made of dirt. And water misted in at least once a day to simulate rain. Hospitable for a Treewood, but miserable for an Inuit."

Sonak listened patiently as Fox and Kanz started to explain to her the principles of the cure for the fungal epidemic that was plagueing the Treewood colony. She didn't miss Katia sneaking off with her newborn and she couldn't really blame the new mother. "It appears we have a cure then," she concluded, "has it been tested yet?"
Jason nodded. "It appears to be working very fast and efficient," he reported.
Sonak nodded. "Very well, we shall beam down in an hour and present it to Director Paranak for distribution among the Treewoods."
An hour later, a small party of Vesuvius crewmembers were standing before a small party of Treewoods, including Director Paranak. "Director, I am pleased to inform you that my crew has discovered a cure for the illness that has been spreading among your people. The cure has been successfully tested on Subdirector Shork, who has resided in our sickbay for quite some time and volunteered to be our guinea pig."
She held out a small parcel and a PADD. "This PADD contains the information you need to further synthesize this antidote, and this package contains enough medication to treat the worst cases, and vaccinate your young."
"Thank you commodore," Paranak said, in the distinct voice of the Treewood people, long and dragging the tones, "we appreciate your crew working hard on this, after what we had to put you through. We see now that your crew is not ill, and your ship may leave our orbit."
Sonak bowed ever so lightly. "Until we meet again director. May the soil always be rich to your people." She paused, then held up her right hand in the Vulcan salute. "Live long and prosper."
Two hours later, the Vesuvius was back en route towards Starbase Bellicose, when Sonak received word that Ensigns Cir'kem and McVaye would be reassigned to Earth.
~and this ends Mission: Quarantine. My thanks to Rear Admiral Loskene who shaped the first Treewood character, Director Paranak, and to Rear Admiral Paul Drew, who participated as Prosecutor Berk.~
