Darkness was settling in on the asteroid outpost Pegasus, which was in orbit around the second planet in the Althurian system. Scientists on the outpost had shown that the system was relatively new, in the order of about two thousand years old. And only a few years earlier, Pegasus had been trapped into Alturius II's gravitational field, and was now in a stable orbit around the planet, which they had named Hades.
The planet was an A-class planet, meaning it was geo-thermal with a partially molten surface. No live could be sustained on the planet, but scientists predicted that it would evolve into a E class planet and eventually into a class F since it was so close to the sun.
The asteroid wasn relatively large, and the outpost had been built so that it would sustain both scientists and their direct families. Director T'Rhan, a Romulan male, ran the outpost strictly but fairly. There were many species living on the outpost, as it was a mutual science outpost. T'Rhans direct assistant was a Klingon female named Mareen, who ran the exo science department.
There was also a large number of humans on the station, and a handful of Vulcans. Mostly it was Romulans, Klingons and Andorians that worked harmoniously on the station.
lately, however, there had been raids on the station, and neither T'Rhan nor Mareen could figure out who was responsible for them. "I am sending a message to the Federation," T'Rhan sighed, knowing that the Klingon woman would possibly see that as a sign of weakness, "we can't defend ourselves without Starfleet protection."
"Weakling," Mareen muttered, though she didn't say it with any menace in her voice. The Romulan had become her friend over the years, and she trusted his judgement. "Our respective Empires will most likely let us rot," she spat, "so we depend on the Federation for protection.
T'Rhan nodded. "Sadly yes, but we have no choice." He went into his office, and had just activated his computer to send the request when suddenly the outpost was under attack. Quickly, he pressed a few buttons to send the automated distress signal.
"We must evacuate!" T'Rhan cried, "the fourth planet in this system is class H. Mareen, evacuate the families, take them into the deserts and seek shelter. There are people living down there, Vulcans mostly who seek the heat rather than the cool temperature on the station. Go!"
The Klingon scientist nodded, and went to oversee the station evacuation. T'Rhan sank into his chair, wondering if his distress signal would ever reach the Federation.

Nephi was busy checking over the communications array went he noticed a weak signal coming in. He couldn't quite tell what it was. He turned to O'Malley. "Sarah, boost the gain on the subspace communications array. We've got a signal I can't quite make out. I think it may be a distress call"
She turned to the console she was at and worked on it. "Try it now."
He checked again. It was stronger now. It was indeed a distress call. He put on display on his console. It was filled with static, but he could just barely make out a Romulan. "...Federation..This....Pegasus.......we....-"
"Boost the signal gain further, Sarah!"
The picture cleared. He started it over. "To any Federation facility who can hear us. This is the Science outpost Pegasus in the Alturius system. We have been under frequent attack by unknown raiders. We are evacuating to a nearby planet. We need assistance from any Federation ship that provide aid. Repeat, to any Federation facility who can hear us..."
Nephi cut the transmission. He tapped his comm-badge. "Engineering to Commodore Sonak or Commander Martens, please come to Engineering as soon as possible, we are recieving a distress call."

As Meylor continued to assist Caldwell in running a few post-natal tests on the peacefully sleeping commodore, he could feel his senses gradually sharpening into focus once more. It was always the prospect of an impending task to be done that focused his energies, and Meylor was even more intrigued by the fact that Sonak had even been pregnant. He had not been aware, but now understood why such discretion had been advisable. Meylor soon found himself setting his own personal life aside to better address the needs of his ship and crewmates, and at the moment, since their captain was out-of-action, everyone else was required to put in that much more effort.
This need was only reinforced when Martens and Reckus emerged from the office, both looking serious. Meylor watched them consult the Admiral in low voices for a moment, after which Martens went up to a computer console and activated the ship's intercom. "Listen up people; we've received a distress signal from a neutral outpost in the Alturius system. Since we're the most able ship in the area, the Vesuvius has been ordered to investigate. All crew to be recalled immediately and report to duty stations; we are on Yellow Alert. The signal indicates we may be in for a fight with unidentified assailants; that means all systems should be at optimum readiness and all tactical contigencies on hot standby. Admiral Mc7 will be contacting Starfleet Command to request reinforcements in case the raiders should attack Bellicose. Until Commodore Sonak is released from medical leave, I will be in command. I know this is all on short notice, but we need the best from each and every one of you. Let's rock."
Martens then turned and ordered those present to report to stations as well. The Admiral, in order to save precious time, requested a direct beam-out to Station Ops. As everyone went about their business, Meylor made a brief detour to the nearest latrine. Yikes! I guess Caldwell wasn't kidding about that side effect, he thought.

The bridge was abuzz with activity. Reports flooded in from all over the ship. Each department reported their ready status and summarily went into standby to wait for orders. Nick strode onto the bridge from the turbolift and took a deep breath. Unknown attackers were never cool, especially when they attack science stations. He sighed and walked over to the command chair and sat down.
"Listen up people; we've received a distress signal from a neutral outpost in the Alturius system. Since we're the most able ship in the area, the Vesuvius has been ordered to investigate."
He hit the comm button on the chair.
"Attention all decks. All crew to be recalled immediately and report to duty stations; we are on Yellow Alert. The distress signal indicates we may be in for a fight with unidentified assailants; that means all systems should be at optimum readiness and all tactical contigencies on hot standby. Admiral Mc7 will be contacting Starfleet Command to request reinforcements in case the raiders should attack Bellicose."
He paused for a breath.
"Until Commodore Sonak is released from medical leave, I will be in command. I know this is all on short notice, but we need the best from each and every one of you. Let's rock."
He recieved nodds from around the bridge and he deactivated the comm channel.
"Helm, as soon as all stations report ready take us there at maximum warp."
"Aye sir," came the reply.
"Engineering," he hit the comm again, "We're going to need the engine rotation protocol online. Looks like we're in for a long haul."
=/\= Alrighty.=/\= came the reply.
"All stations report ready," Meylor said from his station.
"Maximum warp. Engage." He waved his finger towards the view screen as the famous starship captains past had done. He smirked ~that felt good~ he thought.

L'Ola was still trying to work out what Lucy had been telling her. The emotions had been hard to work out. But she had been one of those to get an emergency beam out so that the Vesuvius could get under way, and so had to change her train of thought in a couple of seconds.
"Okay, checklist time." She looked down a list, "Sensors?"
"Operational." "Readouts?" "All clear." "Interdepartmental communications?" "As good as they ever get." "Science Officers... Science Officers?"
She looked at Jason, "All accounted for..."
"But?"
"But Kat's been signed off work for a few days by Ensign McVaye, and the new staff have virtually no experience."
There was a loud thud as L'Ola hit her head against the wall. She took a deep breath, "Okay, fine, we'll cope. Let's just hope we don't get too much work for a day or two."
"So we're ready?" Jason asked.
"Yup, report us in."

Jatan made sure Sonak was comfortable and stable. The sedatives, allowing for her Vulcan physiology would ensure that she was oblivious to all around her. He stroked her head and heard the call for the crew to man their stations.
He headed over to the office and accessed the mainframe computer.
"Computer run a check on all systems in sickbay"
beep. system check running. please standby
John approached Jatan, PADD in hand. "Just double checking through our inventory" he said. Jatan nodded.
"We should be fully stocked and ready for action" he said. "I think..."
beep he was interrupted by the computer.
all sickbay and life support systems are at optimum level. one patient currently admitted to sickbay. all supplies have been received.
Reckus tapped his comm badge.
=^= Sickbay to the Bridge. This is Commander Reckus. Sickbay is on standby. All systems running at optimum level =^=
John turned to Reckus. "Let's hope this is a piece of cake"

Nephi was busy finishing up getting the ship ready when Nick's voice came over the comm.
Nephi burst into activity. "You heard the man! Sarah, are we ready to go down here?"
She checked her console, then looked up again. "Yes, Lt. We're all set."
"Good, signal the Bridge that we're ready down here. Carl, get those weapons up and ready, in case Commander Martens needs them. Alma, keep an eye on all systems. Let me know if anything drifts even the slightest bit out of tolerances."
"Engineering, we're going to need the engine rotation protocol online. Looks like we're in for a long haul."
"Alrighty. You heard the man. We need to spread out on this one, to keep everything going. Sarah, I want you to report to the Engine Room in the Primary module, Carl, to the Secondary module. I'll run things here. Get those Warp Cores in top condition. Hargrove, keep an eye on the one here. Let's move people!"

When the Vesuvius was two days into her five-day journey, Sonak was woken up from her sleep by insistent shaking. She rolled onto her side and opened one eye, surprised to be gazing into four eyes just reaching over the edge of her bed. The four eyes, one set green, the other grey, bore a concerned look. She smiled softly as she reached out to them and ruffled their hair.
"Mother are you all right now?" T'Kimi asked, "Uncle Jatan said we could wake you up now."
To her surprise, Sonak felt refreshed, and less depressed as before. Something was different, but she could not quite figure out what. "Yes, I am somewhat better now," she said.
Instantly Caldwell came trotting towards her, scanners at hand. "How are we feeling today commodore?" he asked, as he helped her sit up.
"Quite well," Sonak said, as she allowed him to assist her. "And eager to get back to work."
"I'm afraid that won't be happening for a while ma'am," Caldwell said carefully, "for the time being you've been relieved of command. For the next week you are to relax. Go to the holodeck climbing, or visit the pool with your children. The bridge on either of the three modules is off limits to you for the next seven days. Jatan will run the final checks on you in a few hours, and he will then decide if you will be released from sickbay."
He paused for a moment. "But I can tell you that the Vesuvius has been sent onto an urgent mission." Quietly, he briefed her on the situation. "There is also a new chief for you to meet. After Jatan releases you, I suggest you go visit him in engineering."
Sonak nodded, and hoisted her older twins up onto the bed. T'Kimi crawled onto her lap and hugged her tight. The twins had been aware of the emotional stress of their mother, but Jatan's assurance that she'd be fine had calmed them down. "John...." she started, "could you call Counselor McVaye for me?"
"Already done," the young doctor smiled, "he will be here shortly. So wil Ortegez with Shanna and Sevus, but he said he'll finish bathing them first."
"Thank you," Sonak said, "also I will wish to talk to Commander Martens. He will have to come down here if I am not allowed onto the bridge."
"Also already informed ma'am," Caldwell said, just as McVaye walked in.

OFF: (Partial) joint post; Sonak and I.
ON: *The time is-* ''Way too early!'' Daniel grunted, cutting off the computer and pulling his pillow over his head. With his eyelids half closed Daniel managed to get his feet next to the bed.
He shook his head, rubbed in his eyes, and stood up to head for the bathroom. What am I doing, Daniel asked himself looking at the man in the mirror. That can't be me. He sighed loudly as he put his head under the stream of water.
Having changed into his uniform Daniel now sat in his office going over the stack of reports on his desk. A steaming cup of black coffee'd accompanied him.
=/\= Caldwell to McVaye, could you schedule an appointment for commodore Sonak this afternoon? =/\=
=/\= McVaye here, no problem, I'll pop by sickbay 'round lunchtime. =/\=
=/\= Alright, Caldwell out. =/\=
At about lunchtime Daniel got up, stretched his arms, yawned and exited his office. On the way to sickbay he picked up lunch for the both of them, and resumed his way.
He greeted doctor Caldwell and ventured to Sonak's bed. Two of her children stood at the side watching her, like two little guardian angels.
"Greetings counselor," Sonak greeted him, "I am gratified to see you have some time for me...and I see you brought lunch as well. Please, do take a seat."
Daniel gave her a warm smile as he sat down and placed the tray with lunch on a nearby cabinet. ''How are you feeling?''
"Quite well," Sonak replied, "though a little guilty that I ruined the dinner plans me and Jatan - doctor Reckus - had two days ago. And you?"
''Why I'm perfect,'' Daniel lied, ''kind of you to ask. I brought some lunch, thought you might be hungry.''
"That is very kind of you counselor, I am indeed a little hungry. What do you remember of our last conversation?"
''Who's questioning who here,'' Daniel joked. Sonak didn't laugh. ''I think I'll be able to recall the important elements,'' Daniel said, ''why do you ask?''
"I wish to discuss it further," Sonak said mildly, "there are other factors in play now. Jatan also knows, now."
''Ah alright I see, well I don't suffer from any memoryloss disease so to see,'' Daniel said as he took a bite from a sandwich. ''I really like your kids,'' Daniel said looking at them. I'd really like to have a bunch of them myself once, Daniel thought dreamily.
"Thank you, they are well behaved...usually." She turned to her children and instructed them to head for the daycare centre with Ortegez when he came to pick them up.
''For how long will you be restrained of entering the bridge?'' Daniel asked. ''Seven days,'' Sonak said looking back, now also digesting the lunch Daniel brought.
''Good,'' he said. Sonak didn't seem to like the remark, but she didn't react.
''Was there something in particular you'd like to consult me about?'' Daniel asked.
"I had a miscarriage," Sonak said softly, "I had hoped not to be pregnant, even so much that I believed it resulted in the miscarriage, because I knew the child could not be Jatan's. Has it been wrong of me to hope this?" She looked at him expectantly. Even though she was a trained counselor herself, apart from being an MD, she still had trouble analysing her own personal problems; and she was glad that she had a good replacement for Claire Steenbergen now. She felt comfortable talking to him, where she didnt want to bother Jatan.
''That's a delicate piece of ethics. But I always like to say that things go as they have to go. I can find it understandable to think, maybe a bit unethical, but understandable,'' Daniel said, carefully thinking over his words.
''It was your child, and your decision in the first place, if a child comes unwanted it'd better not come, for the best, painfull and unethical as that may sound,'' Daniel spoke softly.
''Okay,'' Daniel said, ''I think this is enough for today, I'll check on you tomorrow. Take care commodore, and make sure you relax.'' Daniel got up, nodded at Caldwell and exited sickbay to retreat to his office once more.
"I have no doubt I will counselor, not with Jatan and Caldwell...and possibly the rest of the senior staff fussing over me," she called after him.

"Welcome aboard officially. Now, I haven't had chance to read through your files yet, but am I correct in thinking that neither of you have actually served on a ship before?"
L'Ola took a sharp intake of breath, desperate not to hit her head on the wall again. One of the people in front of her was literally shaking with nerves. The other seemed more confident, but equally unfamiliar with the surroundings. He was the one to speak up.
"No Sir, we haven't. I've just arrived from research work on Starbase Bellicose." He nudged the guy next to him.
"Oh, uh, I've just, uh, finished my t-training. Haven't done any work anywhere yet." He looked helpless and apologetic at the same time.
"That's okay, you'll both be settled in to the routine within a couple of days. If you follow me I'll take you on a tour of..."
She was interrupted by her comm badge.
=/\= Bridge to Commander Kanz =/\=
"Hi Nick, how can I help?"
=/\= Where are you? =/\=
"Umm, in the labs showing some new officers round." L'Ola was a little confused.
=/\= Well get Lieutenant Carter to do it and get up here. You're supposed to be the First Officer. Martens out =/\=
She sighed, "Okay now that slipped my mind."
The nervous guy spoke up, "Um, excuse me Sir but, um, if you're the First Officer why are you here now?"
"I'm not normally. Commodore Sonak is off for a while, so we've been bumped a step. I hesitate to do this to you, but it doesn't look like there's much choice." She tapped her badge. "Kanz to Lieutenant Carter, could you come down to Astrometrics and show Ensign Collins and Chief Tanner around the place?"
=/\= Sure thing, I'll be right down. Carter out. =/\=
The trip to the Bridge was far too short for L'Ola's liking. Theoretically she'd known when she accepted the position of second officer that she was in the command line, but theory rarely seems relevant. It hadn't really connected that if something happened to Sonak or Nick she'd be acting as First Officer.
"I suppose it will be an interesting experience." She said to herself, just before the turbolift doors opened.

OOC: Sorry a little back post. "Attention all decks. All crew to be recalled immediately and report to duty stations; we are on Yellow Alert. The distress signal indicates we may be in for a fight with unidentified assailants; that means all systems should be at optimum readiness and all tactical contigencies on hot standby. Admiral Mc7 will be contacting Starfleet Command to request reinforcements in case the raiders should attack Bellicose." Fox was piloting one of the newest refitted shuttles for the course he was scheduled for. At the moment Nicks call came in he was quite far off Bellicose. Hearing the call he looked at the instructor next to him. He nodded and said: "Looks like you're going on a mission again, lets get back." With that Fox turned the shuttle about and flew back to Bellicose on maximum speed. It didnt take long before Bellicose came back in sight. Fox made a docking request and not later the stood inside the starbase. Leaving the shuttle and heading for the Vesuvius the instructor shouted: "We'll continue next time when you're here." Before going out of hearing range Fox shouted back "Alright." A few minutes later he boarded the Vesuvius and entered a turbolift ordering it to take him to the bridge. Walking onto the bridge he noticed that everyone was very busy. Taking his place behind the helm console Nick said: "Glad you could join us finally. Are we ready to leave?" After tabbing a few buttons Fox replied. We're ready and started the undocking procedure requesting Bellicose controle for permission to leave. As soon as he got the permission Fox navigated the Vesuvius toward the huge bay doors which had opened in the mean time. After a little while the Vesuvius was at safe range from Bellicose to engage warp. "Aye, sir" Fox replied and tabbed a few buttons on his console to bring the Vesuvius into warp.

Jatan was bored. He looked out the window from his office and sighed. ~ Rushing around again ~ he thought to himself. He had secretly wished that he could have spent more time on the Bellicose as he had a few things he needed to get off his chest with his friend. ~ Maybe next time... ~ and catching a glimpse of himself in the window, he pulled a face at himself. ~ Pull yourself together man! ~ he scolded himself.
"Computer, please display Commodore Sonak's medical records"
He found the latest entry and began to type furiously, referring to the tricorder beside him. He failed to see someone standing by his door.
"Ahem" came a voice. "Knock Knock?" Jatan looked up to see the Counsellor standing in his doorway.
"Sorry Ensign, I didnt see you there" he said apologetically. "Do come in"
McVeye stepped into the office. "I just thought I'd let you know that I've finished with the Commodore" he said. "i've tried to impress on her that she needs to relax..." he continued.
Jatan smiled. "Well we all try to get that across to her Counsellor. She just does her own thing" he replied.
"Hence the sedation?" McVeye asked.
"I knew that she would not rest otherwise - the body needs to recover after trauma - be it physical or mental" replied Reckus. "And it actually gave her more rest than I could have anticipated. She is looking better anyway today."
"Well I shall be seeing her again tomorrow" McVeye said, consulting his PADD. "I hope this is OK with you?" he asked. Jatan nodded.
"Thats fine. I want her to be 100% better before considering giving her command back"
"Well I should go I guess" McVeye made his way back towards the door. "I shall upload my notes to the Commodore's records. You of course will be able to view them too"
"Thank you, I appreciate that" Reckus smiled sadly.
"Well, take it easy Doc" McVeye smiled back "Oh by the way, the Commodore fancied a chat - she looks as bored as you do!" and with a chuckle he left sickbay.
Reckus got out of his chair and stretched. He walked out into the main sickbay and wandered towards Sonaks bed.
"You called Madam?" he smiled as he sat himself on the bed next to her.

(I'll modify this into a proper post after lunch or so...gotta do some work in a few mins and then it's lunch time)
Sonak raised an eyebrow at the CMO. "That is the first time you called me madam," she said dryly then smiled sourly. "Both Caldwell and McVaye have forbidden me to go to the bridge," she complained, "so I have little else to do but to go swimming with the children. If and when you are off duty, would you care to come along?"
She gazed at him expectantly, not entirely sure what to do next. She had dreaded his reaction to her story, but to her surprise he had not reacted the way she had expected. ~he looks tired~ she thought ~perhaps having something to do this mission will help. No doubt there are casualties, wherever we are going. What is keeping Nick with the mission update anyway?~

~five feet, only five feet~ Nick thought. The turbo lift doors only lay five feet from his position. With every step a new officer had handed him a padd with an update on a different system. He picked up a snicker from the command chair.
~Better watch it missy~ he projected. Finally his path clear and he took a quick leap into the turbo lift before any more padds could be passed to him.
"Sickbay," he told the computer.
Obviously this command thing was going to be an interesting task. Not that he couldn't handle it, it was just different. Besides he had the best looking First Officer by his side, couldn't get any worse.
Sonak sat on her biobed reading when a loud clatter arose. The sickbay doors opened and Nick sprawled through in an explosion of padds. Quickly he picked himself and the padds off the floor.
"Some reading material for you ma'am." He smirked and placed the padds on the end of her bed.
"Status?"
"We're one day out. All systems are ready and raring to go. So far there's been no contact from the outpost. I'll get the science team on it."

Jatan had gone back in the office to switch off the computer console. He quite fancied some time off...and swimming would be great. He would take Sonak to one of his favourite hidaways.....
His thoughts were interrupted by a loud crash. ~ What the?! ~ he thought, thinking Sonak had fallen from the bed. He saw Martens sprawled on the floor. Surpresing a laugh, he then did a double take. Martens was carrying something in his hands....
"Thank you commander," Sonak replied, surprised to see her first officer walking in with an armload of PADD's, "but what and where exactly have we been called to?"
"Outpost Pegasus, in the Alturian system. We received a distress signal."
"Ah," Sonak said, and reached for the nearest PADD. However, before her fingers touched it, Jatan snatched it away.
He marched out the office and towards Sonaks bed. Nick was handing a PADD to Sonak, but Jatan managed to intercept it before Sonak took it. "Excuse me, but I'll take that!" said Jatan. Nick and Sonak looked surprised. Jatan spun round to face Nick angrily. "What the hell do you think you're doing?!"
"Obviously he is showing me where we are going," Sonak replied before Nick could even open his mouth to respond. "I am not working Jatan, I just wish to know where we are going. Despite being relieved of duty for the time being, this is still my ship."
"i am sorry but that does not concern you right now" he said, looking at her. ~ I'm only looking after your needs ~ he transferred his feelings to her and she was shocked to feel a certain amount of hurt coming from him. e wheeled round to face Nick. "You should know better than this Nick" he said to him. "She needs her rest more than anything at the moment..."
Sonak sighed visibly. "I believe it is best you go now," she said softly, looking at Nick, "thank you for the update." Nick nodded, and left sickbay. She turned back to Jatan. "Was that necessary? He was just doing his job, and I would expect nothing less from him. Surely you would expect Caldwell to give you any updates if you were confined to your quarters because of something?" She sighed again. "Alas, am I released from sickbay now? I would like to take the children to the pool, and I would like you to come along."
Jatan looked down to the ground. He knew she was right - maybe he was a bit harsh on Nick. Sonak looked at him standing there, looking gulity. ~ He looks like a little boy standing there ~ she thought to herself.
"Ok, I shall join you swimming - I'm only releasing you from Sickbay for today as I am able to come with you" he replied. "And it is going to be somewhere nice and relaxing for us both" he said with a small grin.
Sonak smiled at him. "Dont let the smile go from your face Jatan" she said, reaching out to stroke his face. "You are most handsome with that happy look"

The outpost shook violently as it was taken under fire. T'Rhan heard the screams of people who had missed the last evacuation pods echo through the deserted corridors. He sighed as he tried yet again to send the distress signal. The emergency buoy containing the logs had failed to eject automatically and his son had been killed when trying to eject it manually. His last words had been that he had been successful.
The Romulan sighed and got up from his chair, then started to pace around. He grabbed at his desk for balance as the station shook again. He heard explosions close by and he went to see what had been blown out of existance now. Then something exploded right on his window, the force of air lifting him clear off his feet into the air. He screamed as he was sent tumbling head over heels through the air, and thumped hard to the ground as forcefields kicked into existance.
T'Rhan grunted and tried to get up, but found himself stuck. He gasped in pain and carefully brought his hand down to the source of the pain. To his horror, he found himself impaled on something. "Mareen!" he screamed, hoping the Klingon was still on the station, "anyone!"
Mareen however, had landed safely on Hades with the majority of the scientists. They too had started to broadcast a Federation emergency signal, scrambled on a code that no Federation enemy had yet cracked. "Let's hope those big bosses in Starfleet got it, "the Klingon scientist said, "because in this hot environment, we won't last long."

"Sir, long range sensors indicate a rather large explosion in the Althurian system. We're also getting a repeat of the distress signal."
"Fox increase speed. Get us there faster. Engineering we need more power to engines."
=/\= You got it!=/\= Nephi replied.
"We've got a vessel on an intercept course," tactical reported.
"On screen." The bridge crew stared in awe at the screen. The ship which appeared on screen was one only seen in museums.
"You gotta be kidding me," Meylor blurted from ops.
"It is indeed. D-4 class Battle cruiser circa 2200 Klingon Empire. Their weapons are charging." Tactical informed. "Technically it poses no threat to us but to a science station it would be devastating."
A small smirk developed on Nicks face. An idea had just popped into his head. L'Ola caught the thought and looked at him.
"You're not serious."
He just smiled. "Marshal when the second shot hits us make it look like the knocked out our shields. Fox drift us to port." He hit his combadge. "Nephi keep an eye on the sheilds. When they drop cut power to lights and the nacels. Lets play dead people."
He pressed a button on the command chair. "This is your captain speaking. All personel please clear the corridors. We're about to get some visitors." He closed the comm and stood up.
"Three...Two... One..." he muttered. Immediatly the ship shook mildly and listed to the side. Power flickered on and off for a second ~nice touch Nephi~ then stayed off save the emergency lights.
"I hate predicitable aliens," L'Ola commented.
"Thats what I'm counting on. Paht, Marshal you're with me. Let's go greet our guests." He stepped into the turbolift with the other two.
Moments later they were on their way to the transporter room.
=/\= We've got 6 just ahead of you. Doesn't look like they are expecting too much resistance. =/\= L'Ola updated from the bridge.
Nick waved Marshal and a couple of his officers down the corridor to the right of them. Meylor and one other guard stayed with Nick and progressed furthur.
The security guard took a step out into an intersection and was just missed by a green blast of energy.
"This is crazy. Old ship, old weapons. Next thing you know they'll be 200 year old Klingons," Meylor quipped. Nick peaked around the corner.
"Those ain't Klingons." The six aliens stood in the middle of the corridor. Each stood roughly 5 feet tall despite their stumpy visage. Their respective armor plating was arranged in a similar manor but in slightly different colors. They looked around erraticly as if expecting to be caught by a much larger creature.
=/\= we're in position=/\= the other team reported.
"Go."
Marshals team jumped out from behind the group of aliens. They all screamed and started running in different directions, arms flailing. A couple ran into each other an knocked themselves out. Three more were knocked out by the security team. Nick stepped out to survey the scene.
"I thought there were six, not five." A noise came from around the corner and he raised his hand to silence all. He stepped around the corner and pointed his rifle at the things head. It dropped its weapon and threw up its hands.
"Me...Me your friend!?" it asked. Nick waved his rifle for it to move and move it did. He hit his badge.
"Bridge, you can restore power now. Oh and grab that D-4 in the tractor beam and disable their weapons."
=/\=On it=/\= came the reply. Nick turned to the short alien.
"You've got some explaining to do."

Sonak held one of her elder twins by the hand as she carried one of the younger twins on an arm. Beside her, Jatan had done the same and the six of them were on their way to the ship's pool in on the secondary module. They felt the ship shudder and Sonak knew they were under attack. They also felt the shift in gravity as for a short period the majority of the ship's systems went offline.
Jatan shot a knowing look at her, and Sonak shrugged. Her first instinct would have been to make a round turn and head for the bridge, but in her current situation that was out of the quesiton. She shrugged again, and they continued their way to the pool.
The water was relatively warm and she eased herself into the water. The 5-year olds bounced happily from the side of the pool; by now the two were excellent swimmers, thanks to Ortegez who took them to the pool several times a week. The younger ones were set into a floating ring which also contained somewhat of a seat. Soon, Ortegez would teach them how to swim as well.
She floated on the water on her back, sighing as she relaxed every muscle in her body. Suddenly, a wave washed over her and she coughed a few times. Beside her, Jatan resurfaced a huge grin plastered on his face. A shallower wave was produced when Ortegez and Nanny also dove into the pool.
"We thought to look after the kids while you two enjoy yourselves," Ortegez said, grinning mischievously, "we'll take the kids to the shallow end and keep an eye on them. You two have fun."
Sonak and Jatan exchanged a glance as the other two headed off with the kids to the kiddie pool. Then she grinned, and pushed Jatan under after which she took off with long strokes.

John watched as Jatan was furiously gesturing between Sonak and Commander Martens. ~ Good grief, he is cross ~ but he knew better than to interfere. He kept his head down and decided to check the sotre inventory again, even though he knew it didnt really need to be done. Eventually he looked up to see Martens walking out with the same armfull of PADDS that he had walked in with. Jatan walked towards the door, opened it and stuck his head around in the office.
"Im going off with Sonak and the kids for a while" he said. "I'm gonna leave my new AMO in charge for a while"
"Ok...sounds good to me boss" replied John with a wink. "I'm sure I can keep an eye on things til you get back"
Jatan nodded. "Yeah, im sure of that too. Will you mark in Sonaks record about her day release from here? I'll update it properly later"
John nodded and watched Jatan walk back out towards Sonak, put an arm around her and lead her out of Sickbay.

Jatan watched Sonak floating around the pool, with her eyes shut. ~ Thats what you need my darling, relaxation ~
He smiled to himself and dived into the water, entering silently, heading towards Sonak and gliding underneath her. He surfaced next to her, with a big grin. "You seem to be enjoying yourself" he said.
"It's nice to be back in the water...it does remind me of that episode on Anubis though" she said, making circles in the water with her hands.
They both felt someone swimming up them, disturbing their moment of reminiscence.
"We thought to look after the kids while you two enjoy yourselves," Ortegez said, grinning mischievously, "we'll take the kids to the shallow end and keep an eye on them. You two have fun."
They watched him swim off to the shallow end, splashing the kids, and the Nanny. The looked at each other and smiled. Then Jatan found himself being pushed under the water by a rather mischievious looking Sonak, who proceeded to swim off. ~ Hmmmm ~ he thought to himself and began to swim in the same direction. Sonak had begun to swim more towards the deeper end when she looked around to see if Jatan had surfaced yet. He hadnt, which was odd, but she decided to carry on swimming. She turned round to continue her long strokes when she saw Reckus suddenly come up a good 3 to 4 ft in front of her. "How did you??" she began. He swam towards her, placing a finger against her lips.
"Shhhhh" he said, removing his finger and tenderly placing a kiss on her lips. "You know I'm fast under the water" he winked.
"Yes, but thats like you have a propeller instread of legs" she commented, placing her arms around him. He embraced her back and she enjoyed the feeling of being held again. "Are you feeling ok?" he asked her.
"It's nice to be in the water and the feeling of weightlessness is indeed relaxing" she said. "And who would have thought that being with my physician would be so much fun?!" she laughed at his look of mock indignance, and planted several kisses on his neck.
"Hmmm...thats nice" he said, caressing her back and shoulders. "Listen, I'm going to take you swimming again in the next couple of days, but it wont be at the pool here" he said.
"It wont be here?" asked Sonak puzzled. "Mr Reckus are you talking in riddles on purpose or are you deliberately being enigmatic?"
He laughed at her face. "Don't worry, I'm not trying to give my favourite patient brainache...." he looked away for a moment and then looked back at her. "It's somewhere thats very special to me and to my family" he said, stroking her face with his fingers so that little drops of water began to course their way down her face.

=/\= Engineering we need more power to engines. =/\=
"You got it!" Nephi happily replied. =/\= Jacobson to O'Malley and Jenkins. Nick wants more power, so we'll give it all she's got. We'll going to Warp 9.99 in 4-hour shifts. Sarah, we're moving power over to your core. =/\=
=/\= Acknowledged =/\= came her reply.
An ensign keeping an eye on sensors piped up. "We've got a really old Klingon Battle cruiser coming our way. It's from almost 200 years ago.
Was the station that desperate that they would leave in such an old ship? No, Nephi thought to himself, such a ship couldn't make such a distance in that time.
=/\= Nephi keep an eye on the sheilds. When they drop cut power to lights and the nacelles. Lets play dead people. =/\=
"An interesting tactic," Nephi commented.
=/\= This is your captain speaking. All personel please clear the corridors. We're about to get some visitors. =/\=
Nephi rushed to his Station and watching the shield output. The ship rocked, and Nephi cut the power, making it flicker for a moment for a little dramatic flair.
Nephi hit the comm for all the engine rooms. =/\= Alright everyone. I don't expect these aliens to do much, given Captain Martens' planning, but in case they do, lock down the entrances to the Engine Rooms just in case. Jacobson out. =/\=
He then waited, wondering what would happen.

Sonak looked at him in surprise, wondering what exactly he was planning. Only a year ago she had taken him - and the rest of the crew - to her grandfathers mansion, even though it was a holographic one, and now he was taking her to his favourite place. "I will be looking forward to that," she said softly, as she floated in the water.
She coughed as he unexpectedly gave her a nudge and she went under. She stayed under water and dove towards the bottom of the pool, then with long strokes swam a few meters and resurfaced. She shook her head to swing stray strands of hair out of her face. It felt good, swimming again, and it reminded her too of Anubis...both the good and the bad parts. Jatan had been caught by under water greenery, and had been replaced by a not so nice version of himself.
She pulled herself out of the water and walked towards the diving board. She felt the deck shudder with the tell-tale signs of the ship going to multi vector assault mode, and she wondered just what was going on and what her first officer was doing. She had no knowledge of the arrival of the aliens, or the old Klingon cruiser. ~I will ask Nick later, when Jatan has gone to his quarters~ she thought, as she took a short sprint and veered off the board and gracefully dove into the water.
~Although, I can ask him right now~ she then realised, staying under water so not to alert Jatan. ~Nick, what is going on?~ she asked ~are we under attack?~

~We were. Situation has been dealt with temporarily.~ Nick stood leaning against a wall in the brig. He stared at the 6 'grunts' or what ever they were called. They shifted uneasily in their respective cells.
~what happened?~ Sonak asked from the holodeck.
~The marauders from the science station attacked us in an antique Klingon cruiser. Believe me these guys are no Klingons. Too dumb. They sent in only 6 to take the ship~
~That was the power surge?~
~Yeah we faked being disabled. Worked quite well. Though I'd guess our VIPs are only cannon fodder. They keep repeating that Sangheili is going to kill them.~
~Interesting. I better go before Jatan suspects something. Keep me updated~
~Will do Ma'am~
He stood up and walked out into the corridor. He hit his combadge.
"Meylor how many life signs are on that ship?"
=/\=34. Though all aren't the same biomass. About 28 of them match our little friends. The 6 others register between 7-9 feet tall. Maybe command units.=/\=
"Want to take a little field trip?"
=/\=Now?=/\= Meylor sounded concerned.
"In about an hour. We'll convien in the shuttle bay. Tell Marshal to get a team together."
A sigh came over the comms =/\= Alrighty=/\=.

Jatan was standing on the side of the pool when Sonak came back from the bottom of the water. ~ He doesnt look too impressed with something ~ thought Sonak.
"Are you OK?" she asked.
He raised his eyebrow at her. "I'm going to ignore what I just heard" he said indignantly. "You really are worse than a child"
~ He must have heard that ~ she thought to herself.
She decided that it was best not to argue as she knew she was in the wrong, so she just smiled at him.
"I'm sorry...It's just, well...It's difficult to let go" she said finally. She caught the towel that he threw at her and began to dry her hair.
"It's ok, I know it must be hard for you not to be at the front of things, but I do it for your own good" he replied. "Every CMO in Starfleet dreads the moment that they have to remove the Captain from his or her duties"
She watched him dry himself thoroughly and felt guilty for not going with his orders to try to detatch herself from the running of the ship. She smiled as she noticed his hair sticking up in all directions.
"Right" he said. "I'm going to plan my surprise for you now. Meet me in holodeck 2 in about 10 mins" he kissed her gently. "Oh and bring a fresh towel with you" he winked.
Now he really had her puzzled...what was he up to ?! She watched him leave through the door and she wrapped the towel around her and walked down to the shallow end, where Ortegez and the Nanny were playing with the kids. She beckoned Ortegez over and asked him if he minded making sure the kids were fed and changed after their swim, to which he readily agreed. She smiled and exited through the pool door too, headind towards her quarters.

"L'Ola I need you to take the secondary and tertiary modules to the planet to rescue our scientists. I'll stay here with the primary to deal with our friends. If I have any problems send the tertiary module back for support."
=/\=All righty. You be careful.=/\=
"I will luv. Martens out." He turned to the marine teams assembled in front of him. Each was assigned a hazard suit and the latest in weaponry attained from Bellicose. A tall Klingon looked over his gear with a look of glee. It was obvious he hadn't been near this much weaponry in ages.
"Ok people these things are trigger happy and unpredictable. Stun only, no killing. We want to keep them alive. But just remember they attacked us first." Marshal began briefing.
"And this is a rational course of action Sir?" A slim, stunningly beautiful Orion asked. ~Not someone you'd expect to be in the marines~ Marshal thought to himself.
"They havn't been responding to our hails so if you encounter any high ranking officers take them and bring em back. We've got their computer systems under our control so we don't have to worry about them blowing the ship up." Meylor answered, he looked quite akward in the body armor.
"Watch your backs, kill no one and take their command officers alive. Got it?" Nick asked.
"OOh Rah!!" came the reply from the marines.
"Good luck marines. I'll be here when you get back." He said and saluted. Each divided into their respective unit and began transporting over.
~~~~
A small group of 3 marines materialised in the middle of an empty corridor just outside the bridge. Almost instantly they took up a defencive position making sure there weren't any hostils waiting around the corners. They entered the bridge.
"I havn't been on one of these ships in many years," Dak said softly. The lighting accented his ridges making the tall Klingon all the more intimidating. "One of the more comfortable ships the Empire has produced in the past."
"If you call this comfortable I'd hate to see what Klingons call uncomfortable," Jazmine piped up. Her slight Orion figure blended into the shadows. She checked the barrel sight on her rifle and smirked. The third member in their team waved them foreward.
"Quit gabbing, we've got a mission to do." Matt scolded.
"Yes sir." Jazz said sarcasticly. Up ahead of them they saw a shadow moving out in the hall. They pressed themselves against the walls to conciel themselves. The sound of footsteps got closer. A figure moved around the corner and Dak jumped out and clobbered it.
"Dak, thats one of our guys!" Jazz realised. The officer shook his head in shock. She reached out and pulled the guy to his feet.
"Report Ensign," Matt ordered.
"Theres nothing here Commander," the ensign said, "All teams are reporting the same thing." Matt raised an eyebrow.
"Thats not possible. This ship was not equiped with escape pods. They have no where to run." Dak said with disgust and confusion. He checked his tricorder for movement, nothing.
A blood curtling roar came from behind them. They whirled around to see nothing. Jazz scanned the bridge with her flash light. Again nothing.
"Wait go back to that section," Matt said pointing to the right of the hall entrance. She moved the light back, something glistened in the light. She shone it up and down the figure. It easily stood a foot taller than the Klingon.
"Active camoflage, clever," Dak commented, he raised his rifle and shot the being where it's head should be. A shimmer of blue engulfed the 7 foot tall creature. It let out another roar and fired off a couple rounds back at the Klingon.
"Energy shields, impressive," He commented again. He retuned the power settings on his rifle to a higher setting and fired. The creatures sheilds collapsed and Jazz stunned it with a round to the head. They walked over to the crumpled being.
"Permission to come aboard Captain," Matt said and bound the creatures legs and arms with restraining cuffs.
=/\= Martens to away teams. We need to beam you back. We've detected more warp signatures on the fringe of the system. Beam you and your teams back asap.=/\=
"You heard the man, lets move." Jazz said. Dak hefted the alien captain over his shoulder and the transporter took hold of them.
~~~Vesuvius Primary Bridge~~~
"We've got 6 ships inbound," Meylor reported.
"What types?" Nick asked from the command chair.
"Theres two Romulan scouts about 50 years old, a Klingon D7 from 100 years ago, a Gorn frigate date unknown, and two Andorian cruisers. Biosigns on all ships match our little friends."
~Modern stuff now eh~ Nick thought to himself. He hit the comm button on his chair.
"Transporter room, do we have everybody?"
=/\=Aye sir.=/\= The chief reported.
=/\= Sir this is Commander Matt Harris. We've got a visitor. We managed to capture thier captain.=/\=
"Good work Harris, bring him to the brig. I'll be down shortly."
