It was funny, she'd actually started to relate to these people. But the reminder that this ship had a counsellor set things back a bit. "Thank you, Commodore, for your kind offer. I may spend some more time in your science labs, I believe there are things I can learn there."
"I'm sure that will be fine, just double check with Commander Kanz." Sonak couldn't help noticing the reaction Mareen gave to any mention of L'Ola. "Forgive me for being curious, but have you met her before?"
T'Rhan looked at Mareen, wondering the same thing. Something had definitely been bothering her, and he thought this might have something to do with it.
"We have met before, actually. Last time we saw each other before your ships arrived here was about 19 years ago. But don't worry, we haven't caused any fights yet so I doubt any will happen in the next few days."
=/\= So anyway what's this I hear about a wedding? =/\=
L'Ola did a double take, "How did you find out? I only got told a couple of days ago."
Lucy grinned, =/\= I have my sources. =/\=
"Well yes Sonak and Jatan are getting married. They've waited long enough. Ceremony should be when we get back to Bellicose."
=/\= Yeah, I heard that too. =/\= Someone at Lucy's end walked in. L'Ola could hear a muffled conversation but not work out what was going on. =/\= Okay, I'll ask. =/\= Lucy turned back to face the screen, =/\= Sorry about that. Can I ask a favour? Well, actually, it's not just from me... =/\=
"What?"
Lucy moved over slightly and someone else appeared on the screen as well. =/\= Hi, I realise that you don't know me and I'm still not entirely sure who you are, but I would really appreciate it if you could do something... =/\=
Jamie looked up from the console he was working at, "You know I think I'm finally getting the hang of this?"
"What do you mean, finally? You knew exactly what you were doing the day you walked onto this ship." Ed pointed out.
"You know what I mean."
Ed nodded, "Yeah I do actually. I haven't seen you have a nervous attack in at least a day..." He glanced over and grinned, happy with the knowledge that he had a black belt in karate should Jamie be too offended.
The doors opened, and L'Ola walked in. In an instant the two men made themselves look busy and important. "How's it going, guys?"
They looked at each other, both confused. Why was she being so informal? The two of them had come to realise that strict protocol when talking was hardly ever used in their particular deparment, but this was something different.
"Same as always." Ed replied.
"Glad to hear it." She started wandering round the room, occasionally checking things on consoles. Ed and Jamie looked at each other again.
Jamie finally worked up the nerve to say something, "Is there anythings we can do to help, Commander?"
L'Ola turned to face them and smiled, "Now you come to mention it. Ed, could you pull up a schematic of science lab 2 for me?"
That confused him even more, but once he did it things started to click into place. "Oh no. How the hell...?"
"What?" Jamie asked. Ed showed him the console.
There was a message, that read "According to a tradition that spans back to the dawn of time, well about 10 years anyway, you must be presented with your yearly challenge (this has been sent to your quarters) and you must complete all your previous challenges. As you know, this must be done before your birthday. Which is tomorrow. You didn't think we'd forget, did you? Have fun!!!"
Ed looked directly at L'Ola, "I guess you'll be reporting back to them."
"Looks like it. Lucy told me she'd had to do some kind of challenge on her birthday, I didn't realise it was a major event."
"Oh definitely. Sam and I have been doing this for years. Anyone new that we hook up with has to go through it too. Of course I didn't realise it would still apply this year..."
Jamie was really confused by now, "Hang on, who was this from again?"
L'Ola grinned, "A group of Ed's mates on Bellicose. I talk to one of them quite a lot, and she asked if I could help out. Now I make it ten minutes until your shift ends, but I think I'll forget that. You can go check it out now if you want. Oh, and Jamie you might want to go too, I think he could use a hand..."
She was still laughing when she walked into Astrometrics. If only the poor guy knew he wasn't finished with 'tradition' yet.
"Something funny?" Katia asked.
"Just something some of Lucy's friends have been up to." She started to check through the records and logs. "How are you at the moment?"
Katia thought for a moment, "Surprisingly well actually. James hasn't tried to come near me or make too much of a fuss. I'm friends with Jason again." She saw a disbelieving look on L'Ola's face. "Yes I do mean just friends. Anything else is too much hassle."
"As long as your happy it doesn't really matter. Boy or girl?"
"No idea, and I don't want to know. I think the whole medical department is sick of me telling them I don't want to know a thing." She laughed.
L'Ola looked down the log entries, "Yes, nothing unusual. Less work to do. I have to get back to transferring outpost information soon."
"Are our guests leaving?" Katia asked
"Next couple of days. In the mean time we have to get transfer preparations finalised. I am so looking forward to shore leave, which isn't like me really."
"Maybe you should see a counsellor..." She ducked before L'Ola could react.
They turned as they heard the door open. "Can we help?"
Mareen nodded, "Kanz I need to talk to you..." She glared at Katia "alone..."

Jatan sat in his office, listening to a few choice songs whilst leaning back in his chair, eyes closed. It was good to be able to get 5 minutes to himself, which had proved easier now that Caldwell was a qualified medic and was able to run things on his own now.
Reckus smiled to himself as he thought of the upcoming wedding, although he felt several butterflies dancing round in his stomach - he was more nervous then he cared to admit... ~ Still, nervous is acceptable ~ he reasoned with himself. He lay back and started running through a mental trip of the times he and Sonak had spent together, how they had kept their love secret and how they had enjoyed sneaking off to just get 5 minutes alone.
His thoughts were interrupted by the beep of his computer. Incoming Message was flashing on the screen and he opened it up straight away.
From: Rear Admiral Tony Reckus, Project and Operations Manager, San Fransisco Dockyard Tests Unit, Earth To: Commander Jatan Reckus, CMO USS Vesuvius
Hello Jate
Thank you for your message, I'm sorry it has taken a little longer than planned to get back to you but we are currently working on a big project for Starfleet and it has been taking up most of my time. And as you can see, I have recently been promoted which came as somewhat of a shock!! Plus around the same time I was promoted to manager of the Unit so that was also rather unexpected (I thought that I wouldnt stand a chance at interview!!)
Anyway it would also appear that your good news rounds up a rather amazing 6 months. Thank you for the picture of your wife to be, she looks very nice and from what you have told me she is a good CO that looks after her crew well (and some more than others eh son?!). Sorry I am joking.
Your Mom and I would be honoured to attend the ceremony - will it be dress uniform or are you opting for a more traditional attire? I still cannot believe that you are finally settling down son, it seems strange. Liam and Sarah will be coming with us too...we shall make our way straight to Bellicose (should be well before you get back from your current mission) and see you there I guess.
Let me know if there is anything we can do for you before we set off. Looking forward to a few beers with my eldest!!
Take care Jate. See you soon
Love Dad and Mom xxx
As Jatan read, a huge smile crept over his face. This was brilliant news, and he wanted to share it... He was distracted by a reminder at the top of the console. Sonak was overdue for her assessment and she had been working a little too hard for his liking. He grinned again and made his way from Sickbay.
"Computer, where is Sonak?" he asked as he walked down the corridor.
beep. Commodore Sonak is in her ready room came the reply.
He entered the turbo lift and ordered it to take him up to the readyroom. He pressed the bell and heard her ask for him to enter.
"You've been a naughty girl" he said, with a serious look on his face. Sonak looked up with a slight anxious look. "Why, what have I done?" she asked a little bemused.
"You didnt come for your assessment" he replied "and I made you promise to take it easy and to come see me so I could check on your well-being" he answered, standing in front of her desk. She studied his face. "I'm sorry, I had honestly forgotten Jate" she began as she noticed him dissolving into giggles. "Oh you!" she began and picked up a cushion and threw it at him.
"Oof!" he said and carried on laughing as he sat himself into the chair behind him. "I got you there eh hun?" he asked her, wiping a tear from his eye.
"Hmmm" she answered in mock indignation. "Did you come here just to wind me up Commander?" she asked him, raising her eyebrow momentarily and then smiling at him. "I am truely sorry that I missed my appointment though" she said sincerely.
"Will you come down to Sickbay with me?" he asked. "I have some great news which I wish to share with you"
She walked over to him and kissed his head. "I will come now, I have not much to do" she looked at him and smiled "I wondered why you looked so happy" she added.
She followed him out of the ready room and down to Sickbay. "So, what is the good news then?" she asked as they walked through Sickbay and into Reckus' office.
"Here" he said and let her sit in his chair. "Have a read and tell me what you think...."

Sonak sat down as directed, and noted how comfortable the CMO office chair was again; sometimes she missed just plainly being a doctor, without the burdens of command. She turned the viewscreen, adjusting it for her position and accessed the message upon Jatan's direction. She felt her cheeks burn slightly as she read the message, feeling a little embarassed at reading such a personal message.
She looked up at her fiancΓ© and smiled. "They sound like nice people," she said, "and I was unaware that you have a brother and a sister." She gave him a mock glare, still surprised at the ease she was making use of emotions ever since she and Jatan started their relationship. Before then, she was often accused of being a cold fish, typical Vulcan. She still could be, when needed, but often chose not to be.
"My parents shall not be attending the wedding, they are unable to leave their private practice. In their stead, my brother Nathan shall be attending. My other brother, Ricky, is also unable to attend due to engagements deep in the Romulan Empire. My parents and Ricky send their regrets and their best wishes for us. I have had word from Nathan that he shall be awaiting us on Bellicose Station."
She listened as Jatan told her about his siblings, his 22 year old sister Sarah and his 12 year old brother Liam. This surprised her, his brother was twice the age of T'Kimi and Sevus. "I will be looking forward to meeting your family," she said, then laughed. "Now, about this check-up you dragged me to sickbay for? Officially, I am still on duty and will not get off for several hours."

They sound like nice people," she said, "and I was unaware that you have a brother and a sister." She gave him a mock glare which made him go slightly red.
"Sorry" he said shrugging his shoulders. "I dont really talk about them much I know, but I guess its like protecting them cos theyre both younger than me"
"But why? Is there a particular reason?" she asked gently.
"Not really. I mean, I love them both to bits but I've never really had much cause for talking about them. Besides, it should be in my record" he replied.
"Not that I've seen that" said Sonak "But you can always get that added" She noticed him still looking a bit sheepish. "Not that it matters Jate, but I'm surprised that Liam is that young"
He smiled. "Erm well, he was a bit of a surprise addition if you know what I mean" he chuckled. "After Mom and Dad got over the shock they were quite pleased - they both love kids so much but that might be cos they still are kids at heart"
"Well it will be good to meet them finally" she replied, slipping her hand into his. "Now, about this check-up you dragged me to sickbay for? Officially, I am still on duty and will not get off for several hours."
"Well you dont want me to pull you from duty do you?" he said with a mischievious twinkle in his eyes. "I mean, your returning to the 'hot seat' was partly on the condition that you came back to me for a check up" he added, trying rather badly to conceal a smile as he bent over to kiss her neck and embrace her.
"Now now Doctor..." she started but couldnt help herself from lifting her head back and kissing him on the lips.
He pulled away from her and smiled. "I promise it wont take long and you may be back before they notice that you have gone"
"Ok, well so long as it wont be too long" she said.
After 15mins her check up was completed.
"Well I'm happy to have you discharged now" Reckus siad finally. "I am glad that you have rested as much as possible and taken it considerably easier than I know you do usually" he added, uploading her results into the computer.
"If you have time, tell me a bit more about your family?" he asked her, settling back in his chair.

ooc: I don't remember if I had given Nathan's ex-husband a name....so I'll stick with the one I give him here.....
"I would love to do that," Sonak replied, "I am coming off duty in three hours, though I suppose Nick will not mind taking over those hours...I will make them up to him later, so that I can tell you more about my family." She turned at the office door and smiled. "Wait here I will be back in fifteen minutes."
With that, she headed straight for the bridge and pulled Nick aside for a moment, whispering briefly to him. He smiled and nodded at her, before turning his attention back to the PADD he had been reading. "Thank you," Sonak said, and headed back to sickbay, detouring via her quarters to grab a bag and two large towels, along with comfortable civillian beach clothing.
Jatan was waiting exactly where she had left him, and she walked up to him, taking him by the hand and pulling him along. "We will talk on the beach," she said, as she pulled him towards the holodeck. Not ten minutes later, they were sitting on the beach. "You wished to know about my family," she said, "most of it is listed in my starfleet record. I was adopted when I was three years old, my parents having been killed when their ship was destroyed. At that time, my adoptive mother had just discovered that she was pregnant of her second child, while she already had a five year old son, Nathan."
She paused for a moment, and smiled at the memory. "It was Nathan, young as he was, who suggested the entire family turn vegetarian for my sake. I have always been very close to my older brother. He was the one who protected me from bullies at primary school, told them to pick on someone of their own species instead of a Vulcan child. The bullies were older than he was, taller too."
She paused again, snuggling up against Jatan as they both enjoyed the sunlight - though holographic - and the warmth. "I organized his bachelor party, when he was marrying Joseph. I was already bonded to Seliv at that time. My other brother Ricky was there too, and he had already married too. They have an adoptive Romulan son, who was found as a newborn baby on a severely damaged Romulan ship and the Romulans would not lay claim on him. Ever since, Ricky is attached to the Federation Embassy on Romulus..or at least trying to establish an embassy there."
She turned. "The last message I received is that Nathan has arrived on Bellicose station, and was going to meet up with admiral MC7 for dinner. He said he had a surprise for me, but naturally would not say who or what. He did mention that Joseph left him a while ago, but he did not mention why. I am really looking forward to going back to Bellicose. I have missed my brother dearly, however illogical that may sound. I am however saddened that my parents will not be able to come, but I have promised we would visit if we were ever assigned close to Earth."

Nick slouched in the command chair. His shift now extended a couple extra hours by the Commodore. Not that it bothered him, it meant more reading time. Even though he wasn't reading at all. In fact the padd he was holding was upside down.
Things just kept swirling in his head. Every detail over the last couple days from the Wedding to the Commodore asking about how he and L'Ola were doing.
How he and L'Ola were doing...Now there was something he had had no answer to. He didn't know. He could answer questions about being a Ceremony Master or taking the ship into combat but when it came to his relationship he had no idea.
He let out a sigh and looked at his padd with unfocused eyes.
"Report," he asked randomly.
"3 days to Bellicose station sir. All systems report operational," the on duty yeoman reported.
"Thank you yeoman."
~what about royal blue with a nice orange sash~ he thought to himself. He shook his head, thinking about clothes was not something he should do with his time.
~~~
Jasmine sat crossleged on a bench in meditation. Orions never meditated, or so she'd been told. However the Vulcans had shown her how relaxing it was. She let out a slow breath and took an equally slow one in. A slight presence was felt as she concentrated. She opened an eye slightly.
"Matt you gotta stop doing that," She scolded her commander.
"Ah but you look so cute sitting like that," he teased opening his locker, pulling off his uniform shirt and putting his civilian garb on.
OOC: continue later...
Nephi sat in his Office after being discharged from Sickbay. He was reading reports of what had happened aboard the Vesuvius while he was gone. Carl was bouncing a ball outside the room off the warp core again.
"Lieutenant?"
Nephi looked up. Sarah was standing in the doorway. He sat up. "Hello, Commander. What can I do for you?"
She smirked slightly. "Given our ranks I think we should just drop them. Call me Sarah. Am I disturbing you?"
Nephi put the PADD down. "No, of course not. Just reading over what you've been doing while I was on the Station."
"Yeah, I heard what happened. Was there really a sonoluminescent generator over there?"
"There mostly certainly was. We checked with the Station personnel. They confirmed it. Caused very different problems than your typical reactor. A fusion reactor wouldnt have vibrated the Station down on top of us."
"Ah yes, I see." She looked down and then back up. "Any serious injuries?"
His leg chose to hurt a bit at that moment. "Well not serious. However a beam fell on me, hitting my right leg first. Doctor Reckus has done what he could, and said it would be sore for a few days. I have a slight limp. Unfortunately I can't saw the same for Patterson. He fell about 20 feet, which damaged his suit a little. The environmental systems in his suit were damaged, so he'll be in Sickbay for a day or two to recover."
"Well it's good none of you were injuried." She looked down at her feet, as if she wanted to tell him something but was having trouble saying it. After a moment, she looked back up at him. "The truth is, Nephi, is that part of me was hoping you'd die as a result of that away mission."
Nephi blinked. He was a little shocked, but could understand the position. "I'm not entirely surprised. With me gone you'd have another shot at the chair I'm sitting."
She nodded with a fallen face. "But that was wrong of me. You are a competent engineer, I can see that. Commodore Sonak wouldn't have chosen you if you weren't. I hope we can work together well."
"I hope we can too. You're rather competent yourself, from what I've seen. I look forward to working with you. However," He leaned back and looked out the door, and raised his voice. "Carl, if you don't stop bouncing that thing like that I'm going to put a force-field around the Core! Now get back to work!" Carl was a little startled and quickly found something to do. He turned back to Sarah "As I was saying, this ship is going to take some getting used to."
Sarah smiled and laughed a little at that.
<jumping a few days...to get us to Bellicose>
It had been a quiet few days, as the crew of the Vesuvius waited for the Ampere to arrive. When at last the Oberth class vessel arrived, it's captain didn't take long to contact the Vesuvius.
"Why hello commodore," Captain Mattias Dent said jovially, while he tugged at his tunic and grimaced when it crept right back up his lean torso, "We'll be taking it from here now, and the USS Tesla wasn't far behind us. We'll be beaming your contact people aboard and begin constuction of a new station quite soon."
Sonak nodded in response. "You will find that you will be receiving assistance from their initial aggressors, as they have come to an agreement regarding this region of space. We will be sending you all our data on this mission now, and then we shall be on our way to Bellicose."
Dent continued to smile. "That would be great. Well, bon voyage commodore. Oh...might I comment you on the lovely sight of your ship? It's truly a sight for sore engineering eyes...my compliments to her designer!" The engineering captain knew very well who designed the ship and had been envious of him, but he was quite proud of his own little oberth class.
Soon, the Tesla, a Saber class vessel dropped out of warp, and the two engineering vessels went into synchronous orbit around Hades, after which both T'Rhan and Mareen beamed over to the Ampere.
"Mr Fox, set course for Bellicose, best possible speed."
<fox would you post our arrival to bellicose, after which I shall lock this mission...and either Jate or me will start the wedding thread on bellicose board...>
Soon, the Tesla, a Saber class vessel dropped out of warp, and the two engineering vessels went into synchronous orbit around Hades, after which both T'Rhan and Mareen beamed over to the Ampere. "Mr Fox, set course for Bellicose, best possible speed." "Laying in a course for Bellicose." Fox said, turning around in his chair and tabbed on his console after Sonak gave the order to depart. "Course layed in." Fox mentioned. "Engage!" Sonak replied. Outside the nacelles began to give a bright blue glow as the Vesuvius shot away. Turning around again to face Sonak. "At current speed ETA is 3 hours 15 minutes and 47 seconds." Sonak nodded and sat back in her chair, while Fox turned around again to face the helms console. During the trip everyone on the bridge was facing the main screen which showed the stars flash by. On their way back they also passed a beautiful pink nebula, which was showed on the main screen for a minutes before it passed out of visual range. <finally 3 hours later> "We are getting close to our destination, dropping back to warp 5." Fox reported. "Alright Commander." Sonak A few more minutes later Bellicose was in visual range and was showed on the main screen. In the mean time Fox had taken the Vesuvius out of warp and had full impulse engines on. "Hail them. And request permission to dock." Sonak ordered. "We have permission, Ma'am" came reported back. "Commander, start docking procedure." Sonak replied. Pressing buttons on his console again Fox manouvred the Vesuvius through the huge doors of the spacestation. A minute later the ship layed perfectly still inside the station docked and all.
